Friendly, welcoming children's theatre space. I attended Circus Abyssinia as an adult without children. The staff were welcoming, kind and respectful to the audience members of all ages. They created a very safe environment. And the circus is wonderful. A vibrant talented group of performers. And I bet you'll see some circus stunts you've never seen before! They deserve a sold out house every night. Oh! And they have free lockers where you can leave your coats and stuff.

A perfect space for young children. My son and I saw Hip Hop Cinderella and he was super engaged! He even bopped his head!!! Well thought out shows in a perfectly sized theater for kids. Looking forward to seeing more shows soon!

We saw Circus Abyssinia, and I was pleasantly surprised, because it was exciting not only for the kids but also for adults! Snake(tiger) lady was my favorite - amazing flexibility! Come early, as they have fun activities for kids downstairs, as well as cafe. Best to use public transportation, but if you need to drive, look in advance for parking garage deals online.

We went to see Mr. Poppers Penguins and it was fantastic. Looks like a real theatre but the experience is intended see for kids with pre and post show activities, reasonable snacks, and our tux were just $25 each.

An incredible venue for children’s theater - most of which will entertain and mesmerize adults at least a much as little people. They’re breadth of programming is astounding, and they do a lot to support bringing in attendees who can’t usually afford or have access to the theater.

Engaging kid-friendly entertainment. This is an all time favorite for families. So many shows here are great and the quality of the performances has always been very high and neither adults nor kids were ever disappointed. Every single employee was so nice! We also like the pre and post entertainment! A great place to entertain the whole family!

Great little theatre designed for intimate shows and equipped with modern convenience. Seats are narrow and small, little space between the rows for those over 5.7ft tall...but overall is lovely. Oh..and some chipped paint that may contain led ;) hope they will take care of soon.

What a great way to introduce children to theater! Most of the shows are less than an hour. Longer shows are geared for older children with intermission times noted so you can decide what's appropriate for you little one. Themes are geared for the children but adults will find them just as enchanting and even thought-provoking. Many a times, we've found that we can take some of the ideas for Art and Performance at home. The theater offers amenities like stroller parking and coat lockers for free. Become a member by buying tickets to 3+ shows and you get a discount.

Update: watched Air Play. Theatre has strict covid protocols (check vaccines), masks required. No pre-show activities. Casts masks when interacting with the audience. It was lovely to have a theatre experience that felt safe. We came here to see the Pout Pout Fish, which our kids enjoyed. There were craft activities to do before the show, which they also enjoyed. I received multiple reminders that there would be before-show activities starting an hour before the show but when we got there the staff wouldn't let anyone in an hour before. It's unclear if this was a one off issue with being ready but there were lots of kids waiting to get in. The show was good but one actor kept having her mic fall off, which made it difficult to hear her. They offer booster seats, which is nice so younger kids don't have to sit on a lap.

We were in town for a family event and we always try to see a show. This was our first time at the New Victory Theater, but it will not be our last. Before the show, my daughter and I were sent downstairs to play. They had a number of activities to keep her interested. The show -- a performance by the Australian group "Gravity and Other Myths" -- was short (45 minutes) but absolutely breathtaking and fantastic. I'd see them over and over anytime anywhere. After the show, we went back downstairs and my daughter got to meet the performers and get their autographs. I highly recommend both the theater and their excellent staff as well as the group Gravity and Other Myths.

Best kids' theater! Great international troupes perform here! Children are involved with the show from the moment they get in the lobby. New modern design of the infrastructure and a lovely space with gifts related to the shows. You can also get few small things to eat and drink.

The New Victory presents work for children and family audiences year-round, programming a full season of theater, dance, puppetry, circus, opera, physical theater and other types of performance art from around the world. In 2012, The New Victory Theater received a special Drama Desk Award for “providing enchanting, sophisticated theater that appeals to the child in all of us, and for nurturing a love of theater in young people.” The venue changed multiple names during its very long life on Broadway. It has been active since 1900 and was known as Theatre Republic, the Belasco Theatre, Republic Theatre, and Minsky's Burlesque. New Victory Theater is the oldest active venue and a worthy one of the name “Temple of Melpomene”. When it first opened it had a stunning interior featuring marble stairways, carved balustrades, and a gilded dome. An orchestra pit, a modern stage, and a new lighting system were later added in the 1920s and even once featured a roof garden. The theater’s facade is identifiable by its grand staircase and ornate lampposts. The New Victory didn’t have a glorious fate throughout the years. It served as a burlesque house, and then as an adult cinema. However, it was renovated in 1995 as a part of the large-scale revitalization of the area. It is now managed by New 42nd Street as a non-profit which puts on plays year-round for young audiences.

This is a beautifully restored little children's theater in the heart of Times Square. It is well thought out with pre-show activities for the children that relate to the show, stroller parking outside the theater seating area, child friendly snacks, booster cushions for the seats and a limited # of lockers for use. The bathrooms are clean and modern, but can get crowded especially after the show. We had a great view of the stage from our orchestra seats, and I am sure the view from the balcony was also good because it is a small theater. Staff was friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the historical photos of Times Square and the theater in the 70's, 80's and 90's. The quality of the show (Air Play) was excellent and entertaining for adults as well as children. It easily reminded me of the beauty of simplicity and wonder of being a child. I would have given 5 stars except for the fact that it felt a little crowded in the lobby pre-show and the activities could have been better attended to by the staff who didn't really engage the children.

They also have a separate space to run shows for small children. Short programs, intimate atmosphere. Highly advised if live in NYC or just visiting.

Amazing kids theatre programming. Consistently high quality shows that are not painful for the adults to sit through. Tips: get a booster seat downstairs before the performance for your little ones, and pre-order you intermission snacks from your usher. It will save you easily 10 min of standing in line later and then rushing your kids to "eat faster!"

Oldest working theater in NYC, apparently. We saw "Ajijak" (great show) and sat right at the back of the balcony in the middle. My fear of heights started playing up as it's VERY high. The elevated seating is very steep, but I was engaged enough by the show and the clear view that I was able to forget the fear. The theater also has a downstairs area for kid-focused activities, as well as a café - although, it was closed when we went down after the show. Very nice vibe in this theater, as you would hope, since its focus is children and family friendly entertainment. Recommended!

The place itself is really nice. I love the entire setup of the theater and the fact that it partners with schools so they could go see shows at a discount. If there was one show there for a long time- The place would be much more sucessful, but it only accompanies touring theatre acts. So, if you are in nyc and are looking for something inexpensive and fun, The New Vic is for you

Have gone to a handful of children shows over the past few months. Many of the shows have been really entertaining. Chotto Desh was remarkable! The kids love coming here early for the pre-show activities that are based on the show playing that day. Shows are not too long and they try to make some of the shows interactive. + They have free lockers!!

Great place for tourists and locals alike. During the summer there are street fairs and you can get broadway tickets on the cheap. Lots of places to eat nearby with outside seating free for everyone. This is great to rest your feet after a long day of walking or to watch people (characters) walk by you. As expected its extra busy during the summer months with all the tourists. If you're looking for a somewhat calmer vibe (but not really), go during the off season.

The show was fabulous and very creatively done. However the stairs to the balcony level Were very steep. Also the railing in the balcony level is very low allowing one to fall possibly 60 ft to the lowest level

I got a free ticket to come see Bello the Clown in "Bello Mania". I guess he's graduated from the Ringling Bros. to his own headline show. The show is great for small, properly socialized kids. Even the ones that want to run around, climb on the seats and scream will settle down once the show gets going. After the Intermission... all bets are off. The show is special enough to keep adults entertained as well. The man is a consummate acrobat. Even if you get seats in the second balcony, where I was seated, towards the end of the show you too will get pretty close and personal with Bello. There are other performers as well, including Bello's daughter, Annaliese, and a Bronx cowboy named Angelo Iodice. Hey. Don't roll your eyes. They used to have a stables on Pelham Parkway. There are plenty of cowboy in the Bronx. As I stated earlier, after the Intermission all bets are off. At least up in the balcony where I was. It became musical chairs, sanctioned by the staff and it almost cost them a star. But if I had wanted to move, it would have been a plus, so I'll leave it as it is. The Intermission is timed perfectly for twitchy little ones with small bladders. Oh, and please don't bring your sticky sodas and drink boxes into the theater like they ask you not to. The floors are fully carpeted and kids have accidents. Water dries. Apple juice attracts critters. Of course some heathens not only brought in contraband but had the nerve to leave it on the floor. You just can't take some people anywhere nice. And for that reason, pay the extra money for Orchestra seats. If you do, you have a good chance of being asked on stage. But if you're going to be a spoil sport.... don't sit in the first couple of rows. Overall, the venue is nice, clean and well maintained, and the staff is very friendly. Even when asking people not to eat in the theater. Really. If you can't follow simple instructions, keep your ghetto ass at home. ::Well that escalated...::
