Reviews of David H Koch Theater
It was a snowy weekend when we went to see Ballet performance at David H Theatre. We had almost canceled due to the snow piles around. Glad we did not.
The theatre amazes you right from the central location to grand entrance. Quick check of the tickets and we were in.
We had tickets towards the front so had a great view. But the theatre is such, the views would be great everywhere. The room was packed, still felt it was not jam-packed. It is the brilliance of seating and architecture of the theatre.
Room is acoustically sounds. The ballet performance itself was too good. Sit and applause kind.

Awesome place! I've visited a few times and every single person that works here is so professional and make you feel welcome. To enter they're super well organized and even there's a long line and many people, they do the process to enter very efficient in yet these COVID times.
One detail on my last visit, to attend Midsummer's night Ballet with The NY City Ballet. They have a NY City Ballet shop at the left side of the main entrance and the only person not being any professional or nice was the lady in that shop. She seemed bothered when I showed up and more bothered when I ask her for an item that I was expecting to buy once available online. Her attitude and lack of customer service made the selling transaction really uncomfortable and unfortunate! Her name was Cynthia, and I'll gladly email whom ever corresponds to let them know about her attitude. You expect this to happen at any other place, but not here please! Do not ruin the excellent experiences we may have. Coming from (CA) out of NY only to attend an event of this magnitude is important and exciting. For me as part of an audience and supporters of not only ballet but art in general these experiences are huge and myself expect to have a world class experience. Sad to say, but this lady took off part of that expected premium experience. Please have people that love their jobs and enjoy helping us to support the ballet and art, as much as we enjoy attending the events and consuming merchandise you have available.
This is still an excellent theatre. While I usually prefer to see dance performances in a more intimate setting, this is perfect for The New York City Ballet, especially when performing large cast works. A great addition to the evening was the kinetic art display. Made more wonderful with the post performance Bourbon & Beer reception and DJ enhanced kinetic art. (I did not get a video of it, but I never thought "DJ" and Philip Glass would be used in the same sentence, let alone actually performed. )
Very beautiful place for the arts. Came to see the Nutcracker and it was stunningly delightful. But let me say so much about the staff here. They were just as wonderful as the performance we came to see. My son has a service dog and the staff saw to it that passing through security was not only thorough but also not a hassle for my son. I would give the staff six stars if I could.
The theater is beautiful, and it holds a lot of people but is fairly small and cozy. It looks like there's really no bad seat in the house. My daughter and I had a great view of the dancers from the orchestra section. My seven year old left her first ballet performance exclaiming "That was awesome!" and "Out of this world!" We will definitely go back.
One of the most breathtaking blocks in NYC. And that’s not including the incredible beauty once you walk through the doors of the building. And then up the stairs. And then into the theater. It just keeps getting better. And then to actually watch the dancers on the stage…… this place is magical.
Open and airy this is a theater designed to allow every audience member to focus on the stage performance. But what kept surprising and delighting me throughout the Pacific Northwest Ballet theater production was the acoustics of the theater. Six ballet dancers dressed in white, three muscular male dancers interspersed with 3 athletic female dancers. Seated on the Orchestra level, but not too near the stage, the theater could drop dead quiet except for a fluttering sound, like bird or butterfly wings as the 3 ballerinas fluttered on their toes. The sound really enhanced what was already an amazing dance, and really gave me an appreciation of this theater. It's large and the open lobby gives plenty of room before performances. There were bag checks and vaccination checks. Intermission allows you to walk the corridors encircling the theater, women's restrooms are on the main entrance side, men will need to circle around to the back of the theater from the main entrance. Snacks and drinks are available, but eating and drinking is not permitted inside, so you are basically getting items to consume during the intermissions. I was highly impressed and look forward to trying other performances in this theater.
Love this theater and the shows it provides. Big theater with elevators. Comfortable seats and great views of the performance. Also like a museum inside, so it's very nice.
They still require you to wear masks here. But they do provide it if you forget. Also the line for the women's bathroom gets very long & it's narrow in there. Women's room needs more space inside.
Highly recommend to come and enjoy the experience here.
Notre dame de Paris, shen yun, etc all amazing!
i went last thrusday for the last showing of the dutch art installation, DRIFT. the ballet itself was wonderfully executed. i didnt really grasp a lot of it since contemporary art isn't my favorite nor my strong suit but it was beautiful. the theater was massive with four rings. the seats were very small though. after the show, they offered drinks were a lot of young adults mingled. it was a very nice experience and im looking forward to go again.
Yesterday, I went to see Shen Yun and I have been meaning to see that performance for years. I finally did and let's just say.........wow. Combined with the beautiful atmosphere and the show itself, I'm literally at a loss for words. Words cannot express how impressed and awed I am with this atmosphere and overall experience. They really done a fantastic job with this place and the gift shop was awesome too. Their prices were pretty damn good for the merchandise they were selling. $20 bucks for a shirt and a keychain? Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
Anyway, I had such a wonderful time there and for those hoping to get a sneak peek, no spoilers from me. To truly enjoy this place, you need to actually be there to absorb the energy and passion this theater has to offer. Why? I'll tell you. I will definitely come back again and recommend this place to you.
Located at Lincoln Center in the Upper West Side, formerly known as the New York State Theatre, this performance venue is the home of the one & only New York City Ballet, designed for dance; large orchestra pit for live music; beautiful hall, good acoustics, world class performance venue; support the arts, live music & dance 👍 …
The David H. Koch Theater is an absolute gorgeous and immaculate theater that’s part of the Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts and is known for featuring entertaining dances and well acclaimed ballets
The theater is named after the late David H. Koch, a successful businessman, philanthropist and member of the prominent Koch family.
In celebration of our Happy Five Year Engagement Anniversary, I brought and treated my wife and myself to the David H. Koch Theater to see George Balanchine’s Nutcracker.
We both admired every aspect of the show, ranging from the lighting, the music and the wonderful performance of the cast members. Our personal favorite segments of the play was the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” & “The Candy Canes scene.”
Due to its magnificent interior decor, and highly comfortable seating, my wife and I very much enjoyed watching the Nutcracker at the David H, Koch Theater of the Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts!!!
Great theatre good seats. Beautiful design and decorating. Drink prices are kinda up there $29 for a glass of rosé. Merchandise for the nutcracker needs to be updated too. Very few items.
Beautiful 😍 theater. Came with my and friends for the performance of American Ballet Theater. Was a blast and kid friendly. …
Stunning performance space in Lincoln Center - NYC’s premier dance performance stage. Great sight lines & acoustics.
Beautiful theater with comfortable seats. I enjoyed the champagne bar at intermerisson during the 2021 nutcracker. I sat in the fourth circle and the sound of the orecestra was incredible.
Amazing theatre, the nutcracker show was magical. The staff is highly efficient to guide when needed.
We watched The Nutcracker, always a pleaser. The theater is beautiful and spacious. Just remember that if you buy drinks at the concession stand you will need to consume before going to your seat.
The New York City Ballet was wonderful and the David zag. Koch Theater is magnificent. Thank you David
Went to see The Nutcracker for my birthday and had a wonderful time! Just wish they had better souvenirs. I can’t wait to go again
Saw The Nutcracker here. A real holiday treat. Don't sit up too high, but too close you miss a panoramic view. Somewhere in the middle range and you'll have a wonderful time.
A stunning staple of New York City life! Saw The Nutcracker amd had zero disappointments!
What a mesmerizing light display. Went to see the works of 3 21st-century choreographers, and it was brilliant. Watching the modelesque Whitney Marston Pierce "Fierce" DJ is an art all its own. Also, Goldy, in customer care, is an absolute sweetheart.
Nutcracker performance. Wonderful venue, beautiful theater.
Beautiful theatre! I always enjoy seeing the New York City Ballet here with my family. The staff is helpful, although we have encountered a man directing people to their seats on the upper row to be a little irritable but the rest have been nothing but polite.
I love this theater! Comfy seats, fantastic sight lines, and it’s just a beautiful jewelry box of a theater. The perfect place to see dance performed. And there is a sprung stage, so it’s better for the dancers, too. One of my favorite places on earth.
We just loved the experience and the Nutcracker Christmas especial is BEUTIFUL 🎉
We are so glad to have the chance to go there and enjoy the show✨️ …
Beautiful afternoon and evening celebrating the Winter Holiday Season of "The Nutcracker" with The American Ballet Company. A must see experience.
Saw "The Nutcracker" here and it was fantastic!! The theatre is so beautiful. The production was so well done, well performed, and the sets were beyond belief. It's a must see for sure!
A classy place to watch performance art. The sounds is good and clear. It is easy to see the stage from all seating area.
I got a seat on the second ring. It is not too far from the stage. The space between row and row is not too tight. If a person needs to walk pass you, you won't feel difficult.
The workers there are friendly and professional. I got there very close to the show start. A gentleman showered me the fastest way to get to my seat and let me enjoy the whole show.
Beautiful theater. The ballet was a great experience here. Will be coming back.
We visited to see the Nutcracker, and the theater itself is gorgeous. The show was phenomenal and I don’t really like ballet.
They did sell you drinks minutes before the show with no warning that you can’t bring them inside, so we had to throw away or chug. Sounds like the alcohol vendors are third parties.
A New York City staple. Beautiful theater with even more incredible talent performing on stage. There are several classic shows a year, including Swan Lake, Beauty and the Beast, and of course, the Nutcracker (really one of the best ways to kick off the holidays). Also, a great excuse to dress up for a night out.
Was here to see the Nutcracker Ballet for the first time! Fantastic performance. I was here earlier this year for Romeo and Juliet. Definitely recommend 1st ring over orchestra seats for better view of the stage.
It's a very beautiful place. The seats are a good size for big people. Even from the higher rings, it's a good view. There's elevators to get everywhere. I've found that Lincoln Center staff, as a whole, don't really have it together, so you have to do your own research on how this place works and read reviews. One place will tell you that they don't know where food can be bought, or that X food place is closing when that isn't true. Then you get into the Koch theater, and they'll sell food right there, by the orchestra. $4 for 4 ounces of hot cocoa. $6 for chocolate. Then if you try to go to your seat, they'll tell you that you can't bring any of that in. It's stressful when you have low blood sugar. If you can eat a few blocks from the place, before your show, it's a better experience and what I'll have to do next time.
Such an amazing theater and the best place to see the Nutcracker! The pre-ballet tour of the theater from Emily (one of the principal dancers) made the evening even more spectacular! Love the Ruinart Champagne at intermission too!
It is a magical experience. Even when you are broke and get a ticket from the side balconies. By the way those seats must be cancelled or augmented with screens.
Great performance! We came to see.thr nutcracker here. Our seats were at the balcony . Skeptical at first , we quickly realized the seats were comfortable and offered great visibility of the stage .
Went with friends to attend a performance of the Nutcracker. I missed the dance of the Toy Soldiers but the performance was still enjoyable.
This beautiful place is a notable concert and ballet hall, passionately populated by the fervently unaridated souls of NYU and the NYC art world. In a whirl of motion and a whisk of color, you will find yourself caught in the contagion of music, effusively consumed by the undeniably evanescent, ethereal notes, and the soul-rendering pliae of the far too modest dancer. It is a place and thing of veritable beauty, in its very truest form.
I went to NYC Ballet and it was spectacular. I swear I started crying when I saw all the colors and all this beautiful art everywhere. I was never a man of arts but since then I was intrigued and I went out from the scientific bubble I was in to view what art has to offer for humanity. Overall it was amazing
Small tiny plastic cup for cheap champagne cost $25. Love the theater and entire Lincoln center.
A beautiful venue. Huge seating capacity of 2500. You can see well from every seat.
Stunning venue!!! Came to watch the NYC Ballet and was surprised at how stunning the theatre was. The attendants are old and rude, one in particular was super rude and was definitely unpleasant. Despite that, this is a NYC staple and must visit for different shows. My favorite being the NYC Ballet performances!
Pretty, clean, and well cared for theater. Saw the Nutcracker here and it was a great experience!
The New York City Ballet is wonderful - saw Carousel, Thou Swell and Slaughter on the Tenth Avenue, good music. Lots of space between seats.
Beautiful theater. Posh atmosphere. We go their for the NYC Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre. The renovations are great, the best money that evil man ever spent. We still call it the New York State Theater. This view is from the outdoor balcony.
Such a beautiful theater. I flew in from Saint Louis just to witness the beautiful Misty Copeland dance for the first time. I was concerned not being from the area that our view would be bad since I purchase seats in the third ring. Not at all! I could see the expressions on the dancers face. I was in third ring, row B, seat 18. My only issue, there was not a restroom for both genders on each side of the theater on our floor. The long walk to the other side with heels on was a chore, especially when you're trying to get in and out between curtain calls. I wish I captured more pictures. I took video but the artwork and detailing was breathtaking. It's nearby subway stations, which I took. The area was well lit and clean. Lincoln Center gorgeous in itself. Attached is the view from my seat.
Great Staff, Beautiful space, iconic design, excellent acoustics, every performance I have attended here has been a pleasure to the senses. They have great facilities, and a variety of food and drink options as well.
Very nice venue for magical performances
Terrific venue to see the New York City ballet; however for optimal viewing, you do not want to sit higher than the first tier.
Try to eat before entering the theater because real food is limited and once inside; the counters there mostly serve drinks and snacks.
Amazing theater and great shows there! Highly recommend!
Such a comfortable theater with good sight lines and elevators and everything you need. The people working there (no relations) are very friendly and helpful.
David H. Koch is a wonderful person, and the theater in his name is no different. Cozy, yet grand! There are no box seats. Seating is Orchetra (1st floor), Circle 1 (2nd floor), Circle 2, and Circle 3. The view is quite nice from Circle 1, Row A, seat 25. You would think it's too off - center, but no. Ordering online is great, and easy too. Home of the ABT Gala.
I really like Notre Dame de Paris, the performers are amazing. However ,the African American female usher was bullying people and being a racist. She yelled at people to their ear on purpose, and she hit my shoulder with strength during the intermission, telling me to turn off the phone, 5 mins before the show when the lights are not even dark and people are still going to the bathroom... WTH is that? I wasn't even using my phone. Who gave her the rights? Maybe she thought she can get away with it?
I just found out I love ballet. Thanks for a fabulous memory, NYCB!
Best venue for ballet at Lincoln Center
Gorgeous mid-century interior, great views from every tier. Can’t beat the incomparable ballets and showcases.
Excellent theater. Lots of leg room. Comfortable seats. Well air conditioned. Very good safety checks. Needed to show picture ID and vaccine verification. Highly recommend.
I liked that they did ask everyone to show their COID vaccine card, that the line to get in went very smoothly, and that the seats where comfortable. Both my husband and I enjoyed the performance. We especially liked how they integrated the live stage performance with the video background. However, my husband felt the show could have done without the solo singer.
Next door to the Metropolitan Opera House. Lovely productions. Beautiful venue.
Amazing place, beautiful theater. Wonderful performances. Even with Covid this place is still exquisite.
The New York State Theater is a great venue. Seems to seat a lot of people but it's much more intimate than say the neighboring Metropolitan Opera House. I would gladly come back here.
Worth seeing a performance for the architecture alone. Pictured here: shantell Martin installation
For any new ballet folks, like myself - this theatre is a grand stage and invites everyone to appreciate the beauty of New York’s ballet
Outstanding a beautiful place, the people friendly and the shows amazing 👏 ❤️ 😍 😀 …
Saw nutcracker there. Great show, great orchestra. Drinks are overpriced though
Saw ABT here. Amazing experience at the DHK Theatre!
A lovely space to watch New York City Ballet or other performing arts.
Home of the NYC Ballet, right in Lincoln Center, being inside this theatre is like being inside a velvet jewelry box. The lobbies have beautiful art as well.
It was a nice experience, the atmosphere was amazing
Intimate theater. Perfect for ballet and dance troupe. Seats and leg room can be a bit snug. Acoustics are very good. Excellent sight lines from all seats.
Beautiful and peaceful, sheltered from the hustle and the noise of the city, a place where one can detach themselves from the day-to-day and soak in something bigger.
Went to see The Nutcracker, which is an unavoidable experience while you are in NYC. The theater itself is awe inspiring for its sheer size and beauty
Seats were good, great views from each tier. Masks required indoors.
Went to see Shen Yun. The show itself was amazing and the theater is top notch. Very beautiful. Took some really great pics.
Beautiful theatre. We were in 4th level 5th row and it was easy to see the stage but everything looks tiny.
It has been a tradition that I have been attending with my family for the last ten years the Christmas concert. Regardless of the epidemic, we joined the Nutcracker performance this year, a spectacular view with different costumes and excellent choreography. Everything was well organized, from the beginning to the end. Thank you for making our wishes true. Happy New Year from NY
Shen Yun was such a beautiful show. The vibrant colors of the costumes and in sync moves that show such hard work, keep you in a trance of amazement. I thought being seated where I was I wouldn't be able to see the show well, but my seat was perfect (middle third row). This show was so worth seeing. I loved it! A must see show.
Love the NYC ballet!
Nice performance. Very good sound reception.
An amazing venue with great program, performances must see.
Wow the Ballet was amazing, the seats were comfy, very helpful employees. I love the interior of the building so well thought out, it is very great to be there.
Notre Dame de Paris as a musical show
Unforgettable Show From France 🇫🇷 …
We saw The Nutcracker here in December 2021. The auditorium is beautiful. If you are shorter than 5' I would recommend NOT sitting Orchestra Center as the pitch of the seats can cause a difficult sight line.
Astonishingly beautiful venue. Very well kept, clean and organized. Staff was very corteous. Negative: given the current situation, where COVID vaccination needs to be checked upon entrance, they could have opened the doors earlier and save the audience some last-minute nerves to find their seats before the show started.
Yesterday I went to see shen yun here. I had the side seats and was a bit worried but turns out there are no bad seats here.
Very spacious theater. Acoustics is great
Fantastic viewing from all seats! Great acoustics. Stunning promenade.
If you like feeling like you're sitting in a plush jewel box watching beautiful dancers perform to top rate live music, then this is the theater for you.
Wonderful Performances. Pictures from The Queen of Sheba. Opera from Hungary.
Beautiful theater, very well maintained.
First time seeing a show in the theater, it was beautiful. Great seats, great view and great show.
Haven't been there in years the ballet was great
Been coming here for 15+ years. Lovely to be able to return after COVID wiped out all of those 2020 performances.
As of December 2021, we were required to show proof of vaccination and ID to get into the building. Make sure you have BOTH vaccine proof AND identification in order to get into your performance smoothly!
Lovely afternoon to enjoy the ballet performance.
I had an amazing experience at this theater. I was surprised on how good the view is from the third ring, from where you can distinctly appreciate the facial expression of the dancers, together with the details of their movements. The chairs are comfortable enough to seat for a couple of hours in a row. Also, the process of ticket pickup was extremely fast and efficient even in a busy night.
I was disappointed with the quality of sound, and the technical difficulties with subtitles during Notre Dame de Paris performance. Ruined a great show for me
Gorgeous theater. Loved the security team. The dressing rooms need updating and they need to clean backstage more often.
A magnificent theater. All seats give you full viability of the stage.
Great theater, less cramped seats than Broadway, more space, liked that they required masks.
Always awesome when you are watching your daughter's ballet debut.
Beautiful building and experience. We came to see the New York City Ballet and everyone working was very friendly, helpful, and efficient. The ballet was amazing- I can’t wait to go back. We saw the Nutcracker, and I loved seeing all the children so excited! There were opportunities before the performance for children to pose with a ballerina- this was lovely. We are going to make this an annual family outing!
What a magical experience! Went to see the NYC Ballet's Nutcracker performance, our first time at the David H Koch Theater. As one would expect from the Lincoln Center, the theater did not disappoint. Every aspect, from the entrance, to the staff, to the house itself is a fantastic experience. The theater is quite beautiful and feels very intimate, the seating is comfortable with ample space. The performance was of the highest caliber. The dancing, the sets, the costumes were all truly works of art. Truly a memorable family experience we will not soon forget.
Brought a friend here to watch the Nutcracker during the Christmas season of 2013. Still remember the lovely experience that brings me a smile to this day. Wonderful place, heart-warming performance.
It is a huge theatre, we sat in mid-orchestra seats and still needed theatre binoculars. Wish I could have admired the show costume and sets more had I brought a pair. Will know next time.
3rd Ring seating is comfortable and still provides fine viewing. It's a beautiful theatre. Love the staff portraits on display in the lobby -- fantastic idea! New York City Ballet was not as brilliant as I remember. Perhaps an off night, or trying to groom more inexperienced dancers into bigger roles? Hope that was the case. They have always been one of my favorites, but haven't seen them for 2 or 3 years.
Stage view easily blocked by people sitting in front. Everything else about the theater was great.
Lovely theater! Beautiful and fun.
What a great New York institution. Every ballet I have enjoyed here was wonderlly produced. I would encourage everybody to enjoy a performance here at some point in their lives.
Wonderful experience for the most part, but in future I would avoid buying the seats on the left or right sides of the rings. If the person in front of you decides to lean over the railing, it greatly obstructs the view, and there's really nothing that can be done about it.
Always a good experience. Have been here a few times now, most recently in June '19 to see A Midsummer Night's Dream. The theater is beautiful. Seats are comfy. We sat in the 3rd ring, row D, center this last time and had a fantastic view. Dancers are amazing. Scenery was wonderful each performance. This last time, there was a talk, on the 4th ring, about the ballet, before it started, to tell us the characters & story line, & another at intermission to tell us about the music.
Such a special place to see wonderful dance. Took my family to the hall for the first time over the Holidays to see The Nutcracker. It was wonderful to see their awe at the space and appreciation for the dancers -- almost as much fun as my own appreciation. We were in the Third Ring, just right of center, and had great views of everything on stage (as well as the pit orchestra).
I also forgot how Johnson played a little with space, as the entry lobby/ticketing area seems slightly cramped and then you head up the side stairs and the proper lobby opens up beautifully.
We had a lovely experience at this theater. We saw the Nutcracker and it was a fantastic performance. In addition, all the people that worked at the theater were so nice and so pleasant even though it was during the Christmas holidays and it had to be hectic. I can honestly say that I would love to see other performances at this theater.
It was a real pleasure spending a cold Saturday afternoon in the theater and watching ballet dancers perform a mixed program which highlighted each dancer's talents. ❤❤❤
Visited the theater for the first time to see The Nutcracker. The theater itself is beautiful and majestic, thematically decorated with deco almost-steampunk light globes in the chandelier and on the landing of every seating tier. The seats are comfortable and spacious, and the sight lines seem great from every seat. I was sitting on the second tier on the far left and could see everything onstage perfectly. Definitely check out a ballet here if you can.
Last night's ballet of 'The Silk Road' by the Lanzhou Dance Theatre was beautiful. I desired more dancing in the first half; it seemed like more of a musical than a ballet. There was more dance in the second half, and so my thirst was quenched. The costumes also were more colorful and appealing.
Of course the heroine and the hero were fantastic; they were very light on their feet and very agile.
In all, it was a delightful show.
Lovely venue to see the ballet.
Amazing and beautiful theater. I visited to watch Notre Dam de Paris. Spectacular musical.
I have been attending performances here for half a century. City Ballet first of all but also City Opera and visiting companies as well. It offers performers a large stage (2500 square feet), an orchestra pit, and acres of rehearsal space. Audiences get a large lobby, a multi-window box office, four elevators, a design that makes it easy to find your way anywhere, given an open promenade with bar and a balcony overlooking the Plaza.
Obviously, the biggest draw is City Ballet. Look for programs including classic works by Balanchine or Robbins. They’re often the easiest to buy and promise a wonderful evening.
Very convenient location for the subway which stops directly outside. Oddly, snacks and beverages are sold in the lobby, with no seating available. And of course no food or beverages are permitted in the theater. Honestly I don't understand why any food or drink should be available here at all. Nevertheless the experience was amazing. The set and acoustic for The Nutcracker was unforgettable.
Amazing performances, the ballet and music quality were very high. It is very entertaining for the whole family and also for business men (It is worthy to notice that my boyfriend did not fall sleep... against his own will, because he had a blast). If you like classical music and ballet the Nutcracker is a must
Came here to watch Shen Yu. I was not disappointed. The area itself gives off a nice vibe for early arrives that are patiently waiting for the doors to open for the eager audience.
I'm biased as I work here, but I really do think the Koch Theater (previously State Theater) is a beautiful hall. It's shaping up to be the premiere dance hall in the Western Hemisphere with all of the companies that come through and present fabulous music and dance.
Known as the Jewel Box, the lighting and aura of the hall are a beautiful aspect. The pit is one of the largest and best sounding in the country. There are usually some incredible arts installations each year to check out.
Seats on the fourth floor is surprisingly good, giving you a good view of the overall choreography, and the stage actually doesn't feel very far away. They often hold pre-show talks on this floor, giving you nice introduction of the history and also shows a couple of their beautiful costumes. I'd recommend coming early and joining one of those talks. I do hope they consider lowering ticket price for the back half of 4th floor or start a "rush ticket" program, since it's entirely empty when we came on a weekday night for Sleeping Beauty. If they were $35 instead of $89 perhaps more people would come! Such a waste for a great performance.
It has been quite some time since I have paid a visit to Lincoln Center. The David H Koch theater is beautiful. However, please be mindful when purchasing seats in the balconies on the right or left side of the theater (near the stage) the view of the stage is a bit obstructed. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching the dancers of Alvin Ailey, the show was amazing, and I would absolutely visit again.
One of the best places to see dance on New York City. This is the original home of New York City Ballet. George Balanchine, one of the founders, directors, and choreographers of NYCB was very involved in the design of the theater. You are sure to have a sweeping experience here. There is a breath taking water fall show outside the theater which serves as the perfect meeting place before the show. ENJOY!
Beautiful theater! Very comfortable chairs, very clean, and friendly staff. Saw the nutcracker which was absolutely wonderful! Looking forward to returning in the future for more live performances.
Performance was very good. Seat wasn't the best, but paying over $100 for 2 tix could only get you so far at an over priced theater. The performers were excellent, but if there are so many empty seats available that are better, people should be moved to better spots. The real negative was having child crying couple seats in front of me.
A wonderful venue, especially for dance. The highlight, it is the home of the New York City Ballet, the finest ballet and modern Dance Performing Arts company in the world! I still call this the New York State Theater by its original name and prefer not to call by the name of the person it is currently identified as. Most importantly, everyone should go to this theater to see New York City Ballet, as well as other companies throughout the year. It is beautiful, tickets are affordable and the performances are outstanding. There is nothing better than the New York City Ballet and this is their home.
Even on the third round we had a great view of the stage. The theater is large enough to hold good crowd. But not so large, that it retains and intimate feel.
Beautiful building. Saw Under Seige dance. Great performance
Beautiful theatre. Good sound and wonderful to watch dance performances.
Beautiful Theater! Watching the Nutcracker there was such a treat.❤️
Grand performances of American and Foreign Ballet Companies.
Truly amazing theater. The architecture is so beautiful. We went to see the Nutcracker. I don't think I'll be able to watch it anywhere but NYC. A spectacular performance.
I experienced the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater at this wonderful location. The theater is beautiful, making an exceptional performance even more special. The leg room is generous for a six-footer. What an opportunity to spend an evening at the iconic Lincoln Center!
The David H. Koch theate, what those of us of a certain age of still refer to as the "New York State Theater," comprises the dance-centered third of the three major theaters at Lincoln Center. I was there with my daughter to see the Paul Taylor Dance Company. The performance was superb, but I gather this review is supposed to be of the building. There is something simultaneously stark and slightly stuffy about this theater. Philip Johnson's design, in its essence, is a simple rectangular box . it is far less over-the-top than the Metropolitan Opera House, next door. However, the velvet interior in some ways seems to have seen better days, and there is a slightly dated feel about the entire place. The sightlines for dance remain good , which I suppose is the most important thing.
Attended opening night of Alvin Ailey Dance. Performances exceeded my expectations. Great venue, orchestra seats...it's a win win. I never tire of this dance company. Especially the classic piece 'Revelations' .... enjoyed 'EN but 'Shelter' truly resonates and urges you to look deep within. Great night!
Food too expensive. Made us wait too long to be seated for show. Had to wear mask and was told we couldn't eat during show.
The assorted ballets I saw today were exciting and varied. The first five featured Sousa marches choreographed for ballet and they were fitting for this Memorial Day weekend. The rest mixed tap with ballet, the tarantella with ballet and techno beats with ballet. What a terrific way to spend an afternoon! The ballet is not just Swan Lake!
Unbelievable performance Alvin Ailey.
Bliss! Age of innocence returns. Nutcracker even from the very summit of the theatre was enchanting... Very efficient bars. Warm and friendly surroundings. So, it isn't always Christmas, but everything they do is close to this; will worth a visit.
Very organized place, the staff super friendly and very helpful with the visitors on the event!
Theater is stunning with 2500 plus seats. Views from any seat are amazing. Acoustics are unreal and staff is extremely polite and very customer oriented. Extremely clean theater LOVED IT!👍👍👍👍👍 …
Beautiful theatre!! The seats are on the narrow side, but the foot room is good!
I got cheaper seating for there being an "obstructed view" but it ended up being fine. I saw the Nutcracker for the first time, which was fun and beautiful! The food/drinks at intermission were expensive, but that was expected. Very clean and pretty space.
What can you say about the NYC Ballet. World class dancers. This was my first Christmas staying home and I wanted to make it memorable...I realized that HAD to include the NYC Ballet doing Nutcracker. I had a seat in the 2nd row of the 2nd tier. Perfect location!
What can I say? Of course it is a beautiful place and always has interesting shows on, but they really need to improve the set up and amenities. The box office line was completely insane and slow moving, ditto for the bar and restroom. I don't think it would have been possible to get into a stall during intermission!
Such a beautiful venue - we had great seats for the ballet, very comfortable. The place is immaculate. Acoustics excellent!
Absolutely great event at a wonderful venue.
Swan Lake was an unforgettable experience. The ushers and service during intermissions were amazing.
Nice theater, saw Shen Yun. Orchestra seats were good. First and second ring center seats look like they'd be good too. Not bad in the legroom. Ushers were typically surly New Yorkers, and I say that as born and bred from Brooklyn. I've had enough of the bad attitudes.
Very nice theater. Excellent experience. I'm returning here soon.
I loved the New York State Theater, the City Opera, and George Balanchine. All are gone, alas, but their work lives on.
Last night's performance by the Paul Taylor American Dance Theater was memorably great.
We watched an excellent performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company. It was for their annual gala. After the performance, we we were served cocktails, appetizers and then a three course dinner. The food, wine, cocktails and dessert were delicious!
Courteous security staff and ushers. Audiences always appear to be happy to be here and the house is an outstanding venue to see ballet. Concessions, of course, exorbitantly priced but it is NYC.
This place is absolutely awesome. I went to watch the Shen Yun Performing arts show and it was amazing. The sound quality from the orchestra pit is very nice and the size of the stage make it very easy to see everything.
Beautiful venue
Love attending the NYC Ballet performances in this beautiful theater.
A very pretty theater. Was able to see and truly enjoy Alvin Ailey performance. Easy to get to with many parking garages in area. Although Maps was not able to find my garage thru GPS, luckily I found it.
Like much of NYC itself, the theater is a blend of modern with classy. It doesn't overwhelm you like some older more elaborate theaters in the world, or even the city, but you know you're someplace special from the moment you walk into it. Seeming a lot smaller than you would suspect from the look of the outside, every seat is probably a good one.
Contemporary designed theater building with a good view from every seat. Berlin opera production of Mozart Magic flute is very entertaining, light, interesting, animated. It is masterpiece
Buddha's Light International Association has a great drama here.
I've been here twice now for the ballet - once for Swan Lake and once for Ballets de Faile. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. I like that I've been here from the traditional to the anything but. Both times, the performance was amazing. If you've never been, this is a great spot to get your start.
One of the most beautiful interiors ever, ever. Worth going to the ballet just to sit there. Plus you'll see the best dancers in the world, Balanchine. I love the ballet, and you should too.
Amazing experience and beautiful dancing
Very comfortable seats. Acoustics are exceptional. Intimate setting for a large format theater. Lincoln Center Kitchen has excellent and reasonably priced good and drinks.
What a stella performance, totally love Shen Yun. Not my first attending but yet I was still moved by the performance and the bright colors. I can't wait for next year's performance.
My favorite part of the show was with no doubt "Lost in a Painting "the choreograph was on point. 2019 by far the best Shen Yun, classical Chinese dance movement were awesome.
This was a beautiful theater with super friendly and helpful staff. Had such a great experience.
This place is beautiful. The security men, souvenir sellers & personnel directing you to your seats were all very professional too. I love love love this place. And the Nutcracker was the best!
At a family performance of Swan Lake. The venue is amazing, great seats and very helpful staff
Recently went to see Shen Yun! The talent was amazing and the theater was beautiful. Wish the seats were bigger since I'm a big guy but I survived. Lovely experience!
Its beautiful, very organized. The staff is amazing. We really loved the show.We saw the "Nut Cracker".The only thing a disliked was the seats themselves.Too small and the spacing between isles extremely unconfortable.
New York Ballet The Nutcracker, was beautiful.2021
I always enjoy attending this theater!! I especially enjoy sitting in the first ring, first row for Dance performances!!
I went to see Sleeping beauty and the theater is so majestic. The views from every angle are beautiful and it helps that the staff was very nice. Can't wait to see another show
Watched The nutcracker, very fun and we'll done. Theater was well organized, and the seating is such that there's not a single bad seat.
Went to the close of the ballet to see a Midsummer Night's Dream. So beautiful, inside and out. A great place for visitors to the city and everyday New Yorkers.
Saw the Nutcracker for the first time but definitely won't be the last. We really enjoyed, it's a beautiful theater and close to public transportation.
Large spacious facility. Lobby area is a large impressive atrium. Good views from Tier 3 and plenty of space in the seats.
Drinks expensive as usual.
Home of the New York City Ballet when in season. We try to schedule our tickets for the season as soon as they go on sale. We love the ballets chreographed by the young choreographers - Christopher Wheeldon, Mark Morris, Just Peck etc.
Beware of some of the rude female ushers !!!! Yesterday I had a wonderful experience watching the Shen Yun performance. However I can't say the same for few of the female ushers. I am not saying all of the ushers but there was one or two that were extremely rude towards me and my mother at the end of the show. We were told more than once by one of the ushers to "Come on let's go, we want to go home!" I also heard another female usher telling the same the thing to other people. Is this how the ushers at Koch Theatre represent professionalism of Lincoln Center ? The only reason I am giving 5 stars is for the performance only.
Very cool place! Amazing Theater! Wonderful ballet! Highly recommend!
Not only was the show amazing, the theather lightning allow my wife and I to take beautiful pictures. We also took delightful, romantic pictures outside.
We saw the Nutcracker at this amazing venue. It was spectacular. The theatre is beautiful and the ballet was beautiful. Perfect for the holidays!
Perhaps one of the most majestic theatrical spaces in the city. A true gem of Lincoln Center. This building is as grand and exciting as the performances that grace it's floorboards. For the vertigo challenged, avoid the 4th Ring, but for a deal, it cannot be beat!
Staff is very polite and welcoming.
Watch ballet here. Students discounts are availlable. Have a nice evening as there is a beautiful fountain outside.
The david H koch theatre is a beautiful theatre with a very modern feel at the reception area but classical feel inside the theatre. All is state if the art. The sound inside the theatre is amazing and it very nice you can see the orchestra.
Absolutely great!!!! Beautiful day....beautiful performance, staff....
Seen a beautiful ballet thats music was composed by Tchaikovsky so you know it was amazing. Had drinks a turkey sandwich and a few beers and soent a ton of money... but thats the ballet in NYC
Beautiful theater. Great place to watch ballet.
I love this theater. Just wish that Belle was as good too. Act-II of sleeping beauty should have been of 15 mins instead of 55 mins.
The Building is located within the Lincoln Center Complex, 65th & Columbus Circle
go on line to reserve parking, cheaper than outside prices, you can enter the complex from the parking garage. We saw Sun Yun, very colorful costumes with acrobatic & delightful dancing. On 66th Street there is a eatery with organic food, its right on the corner, glass windows, go into the lobby & stay on the right side for the food. There are lines there to go into the building Not the food line.
Beautiful atrium, fantastic theater, great shows. The Nutcracker was truly sensational. Not your regular ballet and a welcome surprise in that manner.
Nutcracker here as per tradition!
Very beautiful place
I enjoyed the show, the theater is beautiful and the seating was good. My first time, will go again if a show I'm interested in is there.
The dancer there are ok but needs chance the coreography ,same time were b...... They as the ad music foreign ,list 1 or 2 to chance the rítmica ,with this is notmens the show is bad
Amazing theatre! Even hanging out in the courtyard was fun. Today the cast of Zoolander 2 was here for the premier, and we saw a lot of them wandering around.
Nice place to watch and join the show were you can filled right on the edge of the performance.
I really recommend to everybody have a chance to go there.
Awesome place just don't stand on the fountain.
Beautiful and professional theater. They're very strict and don't allow any food or drinks in the theater. Their ushers are military trianed.
Watched the Nutcracker on Dec 27th. The venue was beautiful and the 3rd ring seats perfect to see the whole production.
Nutcracker is a feast for the eyes! Candy-colored infusion for the Holiday Season. Superb choreography, an amazing Christmas tree. Balanchine at his best! Must-see extravaganza.
ShenYun is performing here
THROUGH THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE of music and dance,Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture. Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based performing-arts and entertainment company that tours the world, producing large-scale dance performances and, to a lesser degree, symphony concerts. Their performances prominently features classical Chinese dance, which is accompanied by a live orchestra composed of both Western and Chinese instruments. The company claims that its name "Shen Yun" translates as "the beauty of divine beings dancing".
Lincoln Center has endured a renaissance in recent years. The new look has made tourism a happening spot. I personally visit for the ambiance. As a photographer you can find me taking random candid shots of people.
Not a bad seat in the house. A cheap date relative to Broadway show!
I love all performances in the Arts category in the city that never sleeps.
My first time seeing the ballet live was here, and it truly did not disappoint. In addition to the Stravinsky, I thoroughly enjoyed the contemporary art exhibition that was interwoven throughout! Got a great deal on the tix too!
It was wonderful! A gorgeous theater! A definite must see!
We went to see the Nutcracker!!! Was awesome!!!! A must on December!!!
Comfortable seats, plenty of space in the aisles, plenty of leg room. Great location; many eateries nearby, as well as transportation. A good experience.
Great acoustics and sight lines. A classic theater.
Unfortunately theatre is named after one of history's greediest subhumans.
However we thoroughly enjoyed The Nutcracker.
Everything was amazing and high end!!
Iconic venue for performances by the New York City Ballet, visiting ballet companies, and special events, including the Youth America Grand Prix.
This was my first time at the theater. Clean welcoming environment with beautiful art which helps bring the pre- show atmosphere to life.
A great ballet venue
I like the layout of the theater and the sound is good. They have parking available and it in a covered garage. Short walk and elevator to the theater from the garage.
Very comfortable seats
Beautiful theater with friendly staff. The atrium is very pretty and shows an intentional effort to create a social space.
Much improved theater since it's renovation. No bad seats. Great ballet venue.
Large glamorous Lincoln Center theater with what looks like original 1970s decor. Seating is comfortable.
Excellent theater at Lincoln Center. Saw the traditional Holiday Nutcracker there too among other quality ballets
Very good experience. Wished more souvenir stands were opened, didn't buy one because of the lines.
Seats are cramped for tall people and not super comfortable. But theatre is beautiful and with good accoustics.
Excellent view from the 4th ring! Couldn't see the emotion on the performers faces, but we could see literally everything else on the stage.
Beautiful!
Lots of parking facilities that are reasonably priced. Busy yet organized. Whatever the venue, the Performances are outstanding! Beautiful ambiance!
I compare everything with Carnegie Hall, which I don't like. This place is compact, all the seats are pretty good in terms of view and comfortable.
Beautiful theater.
Had a great experience at the nutcracker opening night. Masks are strictly enforced.
Things to like: world class ballet, wonderful theater architecture, amazing musicians playing the scores.
Things not to like: the name.
Awwwwwwsome .people was great.
Beautiful renovated theater!
This theater is BEYOND beautiful. Saw this year's Nutcracker extravaganza, which was beautiful as well, if not especially well danced
No sooner did the curtain come down and rude ushers at the end of tonight's performance shooing everyone out saying "the theater is closed." Guess they weren't used to all the encores.
It was incredible. I got orchestra seats to see Shen Yun which was breathtaking. The theater was immaculate
Who dosen’t like this beautiful place? You could be willing to bear a tiny chair and space while you watch a wonderful performance cherry-picked by David H Koch Theater.
NYC Ballet home. I can’t get enough. Please visit! Note: there are swans.

The show was wonderful, however staff at the end yelling at people to get out was very unappreciated.

Lovely experience but sat at the back meant that the sound wasn’t great.
I went to see the Nutcracker. Great view from all angles. Wonderful!
Wonderful!!!!!! Saw the nutcracker here!
Lovely ambience. Seating could be upgraded. But overall enjoyable
Unique dance venue. Better to be in 2nd tier to see entire stage
Nice, but the upper seats have no leg room to stretch.
Excellent performances, especially dance. And the staff is incredibly helpful.

We love the New York State Theater. The only negative is the new name.
Amazing and beautiful venue!
City Ballet has some of the best dancers in the world.
Famous Lincoln Center, but means room and ladies room are far away from each other

Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the coat checkin line is way to long.
Great show Shen Yun! Beautiful theatre.
That a big but one of the most uncommon theater to me
Food service cost is outrageously high and not consistent with the quality.COFFEY IS OUTSTANDING.
Wonderful space for a glorious tribute to Donald Mc Kayle.
I saw Carmen in 2003 and I felt like there wasn't a bad seat in the house.
