The experience was amazing. The theatre is beautiful and it’s part of Harlem’s History. I’m glad it’s still open and continuing on the legacy, however, the audience is not serious about booing people who really aren’t good. At one time you really had to be good to make it on the Apollo but now it seems like people are doing it for fun. I have been going at least twice a month it’s a beautiful experience for first timers but we need to bring back the Old Apollo, maintain the culture and get serious about pushing true Raw talent!

We visited this black centric establishment on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. I booked tickets prior to online for the 7:30 PM Amateur Night Show. Upon arrival the doors opened at 6:30 PM for this event. Once we reached the building, there were security guards outside who checked our belongings and had us walk through metal detectors. Once we entered the actual Apollo Theater, our tickets were checked/verified and we were sent inside. They have plenty of professional and helpful staff walking around to assist patrons. We saw that they have a gift shop in the front selling various paraphernalia, such as T-shirts and other products. We also saw a couple of gallery walls of famous stars who have gotten their start, road to success, and have had iconic performances at the Apollo Theater. We entered the theater and were provided assistance by a couple of employees that took us to our seats. We were provided with fans that stated boo on one side and yes on the other side. This was for us to give our denial or approval of stage performers during the show. The theater itself is beautiful, historic, and well-maintained. They also have a bar once you get inside of the actual theater, near the stage area selling various drinks and snacks. Shortly before we began the show, the lively and entertaining DJ came out. He played a lot of great popular songs that most of us knew, which we danced and sung to. The theater itself kind of reminded me of the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. It had different levels and intricately beautiful designs in gold. This gave it a bit of a regal theme. The seats also were like the Fox Theatre, which are all on one level. It can be a bit difficult to see around the person in front of you since everyone is sitting on the same level. We had great seats and sat in the center orchestra in Row G. We felt this wasn’t too close or too far from the stage. The first stage man came out was dressed to the nines, he sung renditions of Michael Jackson, and greatly entertained the crowd. He also brought out the sand man who had on tap dancing shoes and was super energetic. The show also started right on time with no delays, which we greatly appreciated. The entire night ran very efficiently and smoothly. The band was also comprised of four musicians: an electric guitar player, drums player, piano player, and bass guitar player. All of these musicians were very talented and each of them had a solo set. Their short intricate performances showcased their immense solo talent. The Amateur Night host was named Capone. He was very funny, entertaining, and engaging with the crowd. He did ask that during the children’s section of performances, we didn’t boo the kids who ranged in age from 5 to 17. There were three groups of kids that performed, including two solo vocalists and one dance troupe. This was a great part of the show since all the talented kids worked very hard. Ultimately we determined a winner by our level of applause which Apollo measured with a crowd noise meter. I will note that Apollo had some beautiful stage backgrounds. This included the Amateur Night sign, Apollo sign, and the famously world renowned tree stump. It is well known that performers rub the tree stump for good luck. During the adult section, there were about 67 performers. We were allowed to praise or boo them. One man did get booed off the stage. The sand man came out to throw him off the stage for his poor performance. There was a 10 minute intermission. During this part of the performance, the DJ once again came out and played a great set full of popular songs that we knew. Once the show resumed, we were allowed to pick a winner out of this group as well using the praise volume meter. I do feel like this was one of the highlights of our trip in New York. It is a must do for everyone who comes to Harlem. I do highly recommend that everyone who visits New York come to Amateur Night at the Apollo on a Wednesday night. This event is showcased every week. I did feel like most of the performers were talented, but the show was also entertaining.

Cane here to see Lawrence Flowers and the intercession, check them out seriously! So excited when I got there friendly staff letting us know where to go ...long stairway to the cafe but cool fresh air blowing when you enter. Friendly staff ready to assist you in anyway...they are the only friendly people in New York. Food choices were few but glazed buffalo wings were really good and your food is received shortly after you order. Need more food choices and options for dessert. Bar staff very friendly as well just order and they will bring to your chair. Nice experience. Sound was amazing!!! Lighting was amazing!! Very professional and high quality!!! So proud of Lawrence Flowers and the intercession...cant wait to come back.

An honor to be in that hollowed space. I was there for The Root 100's Awards show. Wonderful event! Keeping the love of Blacks celebrating their own! Positive, Rich Vibes!

Great experience all around. The host was funny, the Band was amazing and the contestants were good as well. If you bring enough family members and friends you can definitely make your way to the next round...lol!! Harlem is a Beautiful place...

Vibey home to all the musicians you grew up with, from Ella Fitzgerald to Prince in a beautiful old theatre in colourful Harlem. The 'walk of fame' outside features all the greats, and reads like a who's who of great American music of the 20th and 21st century. We didn't see a show as we're on a budget, but the visit was still worth it.
Hasanain Hasan
Historic site that must be visited if you are in the city.
Their calendar is full of events that satisfies everyone.
I attended an amateur night, which was super fun. The host was funny, the talents were amazing and you have the opportunity to interact by judging the performer.
Suitable for groups too

This legendary music hall in Harlem is locates between 7th Ave & 8th Ave. The interior is nice, walls are filled with memories.
It's the amateur night, a full house. The energy is strong. Taking photos and videos are aggressively appreciated or ordered -:) and noise is encourage.
The performers are ok ...
The bathroom is so tiny that I've hard time to close the door ...
Overall, it's a fun night.

Feel like I was taking a step into history! So many stars have come through those doors. I love the outside walkway with the names engraved into the sidewalk. Memorabilia available and at a reasonable price.
Luigi Fata
First time there it was simply amazing. The history of the historical theater is just mystifying. The amateur show was great! The staff was very pleasant as well. Great seats all around.
OB Carter
The Show place for the history of African American preforming. Every facet of entertainment was often presented to the world for first time to a wide audience.
Jazz, Comedy, Vocal talent, Music Group talent and everything in between graced the legendary stage during it's long a notable history. Wednesday is the night of the world renowned amateur night.

Catching up on reviews. I finally made it to the Apollo Theater! The only thing better was being part of PJ Morton's sold out show. He never disappoints.
It felt good being in a historical building that was part of my childhood as I watched Showtime at The Apollo for years. You could see the wear and tear on the ceiling as it was in need of either repair or painting. The bathroom I used was clean. The gentleman guiding me on the elevator was courteous. Was able to buy a few souvenirs to take home with me. Would definitely return.

Awesome theater and really happy that ONEUS came here. Great size and comfortable seats. I sat up on the first level balcony or mezzanine area. The front row has a phenomenal view but very little leg room so beware! Loved this theater and hope more kpop artists will use this venue.
Now for my standard COVID comments as of January 2023. Not many folks are wearing masks. For our concert in particular they asked us to wear masks but this was not fully enforced. Regardless I felt pretty comfortable wearing my own mask and enjoyed my time during the concert!
Melinda J
It was such a wonderful and totally fun experience attending amateur night at the historical Apollo Theater for the first time! Everybody from the staff, host, band, performers, and audience was awesome, and it was a positive vibe! Although, I felt sorry for the one person that was booed off the stage. The audience takes their job seriously and they don't put up with no mess!
Constance Correa-Gutierrez
I finally made it to Harlem's famous Apollo Theater. Lots of fun, affordable for really good seats, great music from the band and DJ. @comedianCapone the host is funny AF and makes time to meet and take pics with audience members. Afterwards most of the amateur performers meet outside the theater and are willing to take pics with you. It's become my weekly out. #amateurnightapollo
#comediancapone

It is a beautiful theater!! My only concern is accesing the balcony. There are lots of steps going up and some more going down to find your seats. The seats are very small. But the boxes on each side offer individual chairs that can be moved. But back to the balcony, I am a small person and felt there was not a lot of room for my legs. Keep in mind i don't know if the ground floor is more spacious.

Went for the amateur night, and my goodness, how much fun it was! The staff were friendly, the night was entertaining, and everyone was having a blast! I highly recommend.
caroline lee

Unbelievable! A must experience. Went to the We night talent review. Will return for sure. Had a blast!!!!! Beautiful pics of history. If the walls could talk! Welcoming of all cultures. Loved it!
Valoneecia Tolbert
I went on a tour of the theatre and THIS space and history are breathtaking. I felt honored to be surrounded by so much history . I can't wait to see a show here.
Vernell S
A wonderful screening of Mr. Nelson on the Northside with Q and A after and cocktails before. A wonderful night for Prince fans!!
Stacey Pryor
My experience was fantastic. We were seated in the middle mezzanine section and our view was phenomenal. Amateur night was full of talent and courage. History of previous and current stars permiated the energy of the theater. You must attend Wednesday's for fun and entertainment.

About a week ago I went to the Apollo for the first time. I grew up here in the city, but never visited this theater. I regret this being my first time, but this will not be the last! It was such a joy to experience amateur night! 😍 The energy of the whole experience was so lovely, and everyone was really talented! If you’re looking for something to do in Harlem, I highly recommend getting some tickets to the Apollo. You will be engulfed by the electric history of this theater and enjoy whatever wonderful show you get to see. ✨✨✨

I haven't laughed or screamed this loud in years. So much fun, highly recommend

I have been coming to the Apollo Theater now for more than 10 years. Every year I visit New York, I always come here for the Apollo Amateur Night, which is a time when the younger performers show the onlookers what talent they have in store.
Some Apollo performers (Matthew Whitaker, Christian Guardino, etc;) have been performing at the Apollo for well over a decade and have actually hit the scene in the music world.
The Apollo Theater also has quite the detailed history, and many Hall-of-Fame singers and artists have performed here since the theater opened its doors in Harlem back in 1914.
Tommy Gunz
The legendary Apollo Theater!! Always a good time, and always a great selection of events!!!
Kingdom Precepts with Dr. Deborah Wright
We had the time of our lives; laughing and witnessing some amazing talent.
TERRAINE BROOKS
The show was amazing and the crowd was awesome at the end it was all smile and dope energy. Apollo theater even gave out free soda and there's a super cool guy in the restroom passing out hand towels..lol but all around good vibe.

Teresa palmer
The best time ever, entertainment was great, we were there from MT ENon baptist church, in Philadelphia, and the apollo theater made our trip to new York, even better. Looking forward to our third visit to the apollo!!! 5 stars to the apollo staff!!!
Tommy Danger
Incredible show for the book release of Fat Joe with legendary performances. The staff is super friendly and the theater is very well maintained
Pamela Williams
Legendary and iconic in every aspect! One of my fav places to visit in the Harlem community.. truly an asset to the culture!! 🙌🏽 …
Dominique Hutchinson
My co worker and I took our special needs clients there because they love Lil Kim and requested to see her,we all had a blast they were dancing and everything!!! Dope night!
PhillyNEFL
The legendary Apollo is just that. I didn't see any performances but just being in the same building as all of the icons of music was an experience in itself. They have done a fabulous job of keeping the venue in shape. They offer tours but I just wanted to get some pictures and just check it out. The list of names of the stars that have been on this stage is a who's who of show biz. Next time I visit I'm gonna catch a performance on amateur night
Christopher Malick
Never was able to make it inside because of Covid. I enjoyed visiting the place. I dined at Sylvia's which is a must if you're in the area
Brooke Bryan
Fun, fantastic night! Super friendly staff, great entertainment, awesome venue! Host(s), music, everything great! Yass!! 👍 …
SHAWN HANN
Mr Apollo- Billy Mitchell- still does an amazing tour. I took 28 16-year-olds for a tour and they LOVED it. Get here and do this tour. 💜 …
LaQuisha Jackson
We were only able to visit the gift shop area but, I did get to rub the "lucky log"! I also purchased a cute Apollo ornament.
The two staff people I met were friendly and helpful. This was my first trip to NYC- Harlem so, extremely sad that I couldn't see the stage or attend a show but, I went! Bucket item checked✅️😊
David Sundland
Beautiful theater with an incredible history. The security process could use some streamlining, but the needlessly long wait to get in was worth it.
RJ33 GAMIN
The Historical Apollo Theater was a brief lobby visit. You couldn't go beyond the souvenir counter but the energy emanating from it's story was amazing!!!!
Iuliia Poselskaia
If you have a chance to visit a show, go for it. I visited Amateur Night and it was amazing!
Angela Gunn
I was visiting New York this weekend and went to a show to see Kountey Wayne. I had a graat time and was excited to visit the famous iconic Apollo Theater.
Alex Kemeny
Absolutely cannot recommend Wednesday Amateur Show Highly enough. Some kids acts (No booing) then the adult acts and if you don't like them, boo them off. Great fun and a must do in NYC.
Ronnie McKnight
1st visit and comedian capone did a fantastic job. Comfortable seating, nice laid back relaxed atmosphere.
Jake Joraanstad
Awesome experience. Comedy night was an awesome environment.
Dianne C
Went here for my sister's graduation. It was a very beautiful and elegant theater. All staff were very courteous and helpful. It gave me an 80s vibe which was amazing! Definitely recommend to visit Apollo Theater.
Carl Petter Opsahl
A legendary concert house in the heart of Harlem, the Apollo Theater has featured some of the greatest artist in jazz, blues, funk, soul and hip hop. The accoustics are good, and the feeling intimate. A good place to experience music. There is also a gift shop, and outside you can get a glimpse of all the greats who have performed here. A historic place with a lot of good vibes.
Milorad Vukovich
This places has so much history, first of all! Second it was so much fun and laughed more than I could have expected. Tickets were at a great price (~30) and alcoholic drinks were under $10. Capone (the host) was hilarious and kept us laughing throughout the show! It was neat to see real talent from around the country preform for us. I would recommend coming to a show and amateur night if you want a good laugh and an enjoyable time with a great band!
DJ Wade
Great historical theater. We had such an amazing time watching H.E.R performing her good music. The place has great seats, balcony, and bar. Drinks was on the house thanks Apollo. There is street parking available near the theater.
Stephanie L. Jackson
Such an epic experience just to see the location and a few pics of the lobby. Definitely a must see.
Chantel D. Bowie
Got here right at opening on a Saturday morning. The staff member that opened the door was a bit rude and yelled at us to put on a mask. The gift shop is pretty small, but was glad to leave with a few items to bring home.
Michele Garone Gersten
We didn't tour the Apollo, since we were a group of 40, but we all wanted to. We we're very disappointed 😞. We just went in to the gift shop and took pictures outside. The sidewalk in front of the entrance is very cool with gold plaques of performers who've played there. …
Katie Sokolik
Oh my gosh! How amazing! It was great to be in this beautiful, historic theater and so much fun! The show was absolutely fantastic! Almost 3 hours of entertainment! What talent was on display! Although the audience participation was fun, I do think the group was harsh to two of the contestants, not even really giving them a fair shot to perform. That's the nature, risk, and hazard of the performing at the Apollo, though, I guess. Performers beware! It is not always fair or for the faint, feeble, or weak, so work on your rhino skin! A "no" from the audience at the Apollo doesn't mean that you're no good or you didn't deserve better. A different night and it could turn out totally different! No complaints, though. The whole experience really was great. I would definitely go again, and most certainly recommend the experience to anyone. Another fun tidbit is this: if you get there early enough and you post something on social media using their hashtag, it will show up on the big screen, so get your camera ready! Have fun! #AmateurNightApollo

This place has so much potential!! But not with a Marriott growing right next door!! I can imagine that the APOLLO wants to be saved BEFORE it’s to late!! I imagine it would like the kids to have access to it so that they can save it!! They are the future after all!! I can’t say for sure but I imagine we should at least try to find out!! Don’t worry I’ll take all liability!! I don’t want to add any more trouble to the deficit than is already currently necessary!!
Nyree New Entrepreneur
You can’t say nothing bad about The Apollo. Had a wonderful time 😊 …
Alex K
Visiting the Apollo Theater was on my bucket list for some time, as I learned about the theater’s role in shaping African American culture and reading about how the theater helped propel the careers of many famous celebrities like Jimi Hendrix.
Although our group didn’t get to watch any performances at the theatre during our visit, the staff at the Apollo Theatre were really friendly and let us hang around the theatre and ask questions about the theatre and its luxurious history.
Watching a performance here is definitely on my to-do list next time i’m in New York!
Elsie Wilkins
I took my granddaughters. I wanted them to experience the Apollo and what it stood for. They had a wonderful time.
sean woods
Incredible piece of culture and history. Super intimate setting.
Mahrokh Moknatian
One of the most fun shows in nyc! We were sitting at the lower balcony and got a very good view. Don’t carry too many stuff with you cause the sits are very small + you need to be able to move around and shake your body during the show :D
Carla Rupp
Fabulous venue. Historic! I saw a Miles Davis film recently. Comedy. Tours. You name it. So many activities this important year. Love it.
Felicia Roberts
Apollo Night! It was so much fun! There is a pre- party for the audience and then there is are the kids showcase and then adults. It ended up being a total of 3hr long and only for $30 each. This was truly one of the highlights of my NYC.
Only on Wednesday Nights!
Heather Meares
Great experience! So glad we went.
Shaniece Perkins
Did not enter just walked by and took pictures. Next time when in New York I will be attending.
Roosevelt Rushton
It was truly a great experience just like you saw on TV, but I was there for a live show and it was spectacular. I advise anyone to experience what Experience live if they get the chance.
Nicholas Bauer
Always a place I wanted to visit in NYC. Mr. Apollo is the real deal and gave a great tour with a great history lesson both for him personal and for the theater. Highly suggest as a local or visitor.
Stefany Melendez
Showtime at the Apollo is amazing. I have had the honor of performing therea few years ago. I was a young girl so no booing occurred but any who. It's amazing to see it back in such a great way. The place still looks great. The crowed is definetly more mixed now a days and to say that it's vicious if you don't do well is an understatement. Steve Harvey turned this out. Let's hope it gets picked up by Fox
Theotis Callender
So much history here. Want a peak backstage? See the pics. Did you know the Apollo started as a burlesque house in 1913? Sincw then it has become world famous for showcasing talent, established and new.
Stephany belle
Very sketchy area when you get off the train to take the walk to Apollo but overall it was kool!
Kamal Shbeir
The famous Apollo where legends were made! So famous we know of it all the way in the Middle East! Had to visit this place and it was absolutely worth it! and the MC was freakin hilarious!! 😂 …
Jason Macey
No name is more synonymous with performing arts during the Harlem Renaissance (and after) than the Apollo Theater. The fact that the Apollo is functional is a testament to community concern and the importance of this landmark.
Marcia Keith
Excellent talent! Show could've been longer. I will definitely attend another show when I'm in NY
jose Lugo
😎Red Hot Chilli thou on 2nd night vips bringing +3 or4 wasn't right as it slowed much McEnroe bring 3 ppl wasn't fair should t be allowed for such a small Venue.,but security and staff were great and patient as always...putting the show witch was a class act...I LOVE THE APOLLO ITS INTIMATE AND BETTER THEN FAIR IN PRICING ESP DURING THESE TIMES..REGARDLESS OF SEATING YOU FEEL AS IF ON STAGE.,
Quandella Ladson
I went to the Apollo on 10/29/22 to see the legendary Malian singer Oumou Sangare. She has a beautiful voice and sings in Wassoulu style and is loved by many. She is an advocate for women's rights and speaks against polygamy and child bride marriages. The Apollo is a nice theater 🎭 with a very intimate cozy setting and has host many legends in the music 🎶 industry and amateur night where people can show their talent. If you have a chance stop by the Apollo for some culture and fun 😊
Michael Tack
I had so much fun at the amateur night at the Apollo! The crowd gets warmed up by the in house 'crowd warmers' until the house is on fire :-). The performances themselves were absolutely great and a pleasure to watch. And let's not forget that hanging out in such an iconic place as the Apollo Theater is an experience in itself. You definitely won't regret spending your evening at the Apollo!!
Gleb Merculator
Absolutely amazing venue, very intimate yet large enough for big name bands. Three floors of seating means there's great viewing angles no matter where you get tickets, and the sound is some of the clearest ive seen. A+ definitely check it out if youre in the NYC area
nessy 2cutee
It was the best night of my life seeing lil kim, ashanti, Lola Brooke from Brooklyn ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️that show wad amazing.
Marilyn Hoosier
I had the best time! It took me back to Arseno, Steve Harvey and Tikki. Lots of memories and laughs. The new host was funny and I like his message of unity.
Andrew Yisu-das
The APOLLO celebrated its 85th BIRTHDAY and had an open house celebration on Sat 2nd ....!!!! It was my first time to this beautiful theatre Uptown !!! It was a dream come thru , the conveinces provided were great !! Elevator to the different floors and hospitable folks to guide you !!! Friendly staff and courteous .
Nothemba Goldstein
Absolutely wonderful entertainment.
The building is gorgeous from the inside.
We got late seats and sat in the very last row, on the right. No need to worry! The sound and line of vision was perfect!
The show was hysterical. I don't live in America, but the humour is light and witty and appeals to all.
I also love that you buy your drinks inside - credit cards accepted!
The ushers are also feisty characters and start getting you in the festive mood from the get-go.
If I lived nearby, I would try and go at least once a month!
Kelvin Wallace
Always the lauded historical landmark in Harlem, providing the communities residents with that special sense of pride and recognition. Like as if downtown still has to come uptown if they wish to experience the "real" vibe.
There was a wonderful post- pandemic turnout for the 'In Conversation: Ta-Nehisi Coates & Black Thought' program.
André Piaf
Tiny Little theater with a massive line up during the whole music history. What a surprise!!!!
Thoughts Of My Soul
I have lived in the Harlem area for over 13 years and have never been to the Apollo. I loved the fact that the Apollo helped host the #stepitupnyc for the youth into performing arts. The show was amazing.
K J
So, as a young adult I spent a lot of time watching show time at the Apollo. The Apollo Theatre is an iconic place, located in the heart of Harlem (125st). The staff is great! I was seated in the back and so the stage seemed far away lol. While I was there all I did was reminisce on everything I saw on the telly. To visit this place is an honor so be sure to check it out.
Sueann
Iconic with super small seats. If you’re tall or curvy or got a few extra pounds just be prepared to squeeze into small seats & be slightly uncomfortable. & don’t come for me b/c of my review, I am mindful of when it was built but it doesn’t take away from the small seats.
Jessica B
SO worth the drive from Toronto! Went to Amateur Night and had such a blast! Check in was smooth and seating was no fuss. Will be back!’
Billy Bradley
First time inside it was extremely nice like a dream come true after seeing the inside for so many years on TV
Savoy Williams
Easy getting inside, usher took me right to my seat & when there was someone sitting in my seat she told them to get up 😊 no complaints yet …
Katherine Chan
This is my second time at apollo. The first for amateur night and the second for Holidays in Harlem Gospel. This theater knows how to get the crowd enthralled. The orchestra and mezzanine seating are both excellent. No where in the oreshestra is too odd an angle - ever seat is good. I would aim for mezze center if at all possible. Pictures here are from dead center mezz.
Pintu Mishra
Great place to watch talented performers. Glad to have my daughter performing few times already!!!
Trevor Barrow
Fantastic Theatre with so much history. Would highly recommend as part of a tour.
Richard Brett Kelly
I have lived in NYC forever, and this was my first time at Amateur Night at the Apollo. We had an excellent time. The crowd emcee, talent, and crowd were all lots of fun. Don't wait forever. Go!
Pamela Moore-Thompson
High energy! The Apollo hosted audience members from all areas of the world! Everyone came together to have an amazing time! It's Showtime!
Jaida White
I've been to the Apollo on many different occasions whether it was for the world famous amateur night, a concert, a viewing of the presidential debate, or a podcast live show. Each time I have enjoyed being I n the theater and the energy it brings. I love how they can have a plethora of different events in the space. Pricy drinks but that's typical for any nyc venue.
David DiPierdomenico
Incredible to be in such a wonderful venue.
Brittany Clay
I had a great experience! We saw the amateur night finale on November 23rd. I loved every minute of it.
yvette reid
The Usher went out of her way to provide better seating for my elderly Mother with severe arthritis, visual & hearing impaiment. My 13 year old granddaughter Loved her Amature Night @ the Apollo experience as well. Highly recommend.
Vanessa
My time was wonderful the staff was outstanding the theater was beautiful I can wait to go back to Harlem New York ....
Sakinah A.
This historic theater is beautiful and able to inspire awe in anyone who enters. I would love to give it five stars but the ladies room on the second floor is terribly narrow. Barely enough room to turn around without brushing the toilet, and contains only 2 stalls (yikes). I suggest the first floor facilities, if one is available. I've only been here once before, and never thought to try the first floor.
The rows of seats are narrow (but soft), so the long legged need to be prepared. There's a bar in the ipper balcony area. Staff is polite and helpful. Plus is the souvenir counter near the entrance. A lot of different acts are drawn to the "world famous Apollo Theater" i.e. Duran Duran played a concert 2 years ago and ithat was my first visit.
Stefanie Smentek
Amazing private concert with Alicia keys courtesy of SiriusXM and pandora! What a special place.
Anan Niemus
Great theatre with an amazing history. Sound for us was way too loud and we needed to buy earplugs across the street. We seemed to be the only ones, but I really wonder if the decibels were within an acceptable range. We attended the amateur night. Host
Crystal Jenkins
I'm awe of being able to experience this visit. Was gorgeous and everyone was so kind.
Cynthia Joseph
Apollo is NYC and everyone who is anyone loves stopping by. We were in the presence of greatness with Ava Duvernay, the cast of "when they see us" and the 5 men who the movie was about and Oprah. The only downside was I was outside of theatre since 3pm but they put the people who arrived early in the upperdecks of the theatre near the ceiling and the late comers got better seats. First & Last time at the Apollo.
Marco Ramirez
One of the greatest experiences in a historic place. Billy A.k.a. Mr Apollo guided us with his humble and gracious personality, through the origins of this shrine of Jazz, Soul and R&B music. Strongly recommend for music lovers of all ages.
Adrian Roach
We made the trip up to Harlem a specially to see the Apollo, it’s in a busy neighbourhood full of life and activity the night we went there, worth having a look around
Raymond Ortiz
What a historic experience! Thank you Mr. Apollo for all that you did.
vanvlove 789
So much history, knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have a great internship program for H.S. students and I visited multiple times for business and pleasure. I would recommend everyone visit if they are in Harlem, NY.

One of the best shows I've seen in my life!!! I had a wonderful time!!!! I highly recommend the legendary Amateur night!!
Michael Moreschi
Went Amateur Night. Had a fun great time!! Host and band were excellent. Beautiful theatre. Down side is parking is hard to find.
Christopher Barulich
Gorgeous theater with brilliant lighting. I came here for my first time on Friday night for a AHF event. I was really impressed with this theater and had a great time!
Myra Nagy
This was the best time I have ever had. The scene was so down to earth. The atmosphere is was lively. Staff was accommodating to the elderly. Their restrooms were very clean. All in all it was a great experience.
Linda Herron
Staff very engaging. Elevator for those who can't do the stars. DJ band. and comedian were great
Danielle Mendez
Lines for everything were long, but we had a great time. The concert was fantastic.
Dee Dee Foodie4life
The World Famous Apollo was so informative, the tour was superb, the tour guide was excellent, I wish I could remember his name, but he wrote a book about how he got his start at Apollo. We got to look at the signature walls, :the lucky log" we were able to do a mock show. It was so much fun.
Jai
My college went on a trip to NY, during which we went to the Apollo theater. It was an honor to meet Mr. Apollo himself! (If your name's Barbara be prepared for him to talk about his sugawuga 😂). An experience that I'll definitely never forget. Groups went up and preformed, including some of my classmates and instructors. Two of which are pictured, are actually singers. So glad they had the courage to sing in front of the crowd. I heavily recommend visiting, and getting a copy of Billy Mitchell's book. He signs it then and there.

I went for showtime at the Apollo competition.
The band is excellent!
Capone was the host, he did a good job with the flow and tone of the show. Didn't like that he joked on my artist Iam.Karine
But hey she won first place so take that!
Val-jerry Moise
Great time, at the historic Apllo Theater, I went there for Africa Now which was a great event. I ended up on stage for a dance contest which was fun, as an artist the dream is to perform at a place like this were a lot of history has been made, lots of great performances has been held, so for me for just a few minutes being on state and dance in front of all these people and the cheers were an affirmation of my purpose of being a professional and bring joy to people. Great place.
ladylea
The concert was WONDERFUL🤗
I have not been to the Apollo in ages they did a good job with the inside up keep they also do a strict security check you can buy drinks water alcoholic beverages sound system great! …
Kevin K. Francis
Steeped in history... what else is there to say? The name says it all... it's the Apollo! I can't imagine a trip to NY and not take in a show or event at the world renowned Apollo Theater.
We were there to see Jamie Foxx on his book tour (Act Like You Got Some Sense). He and Nick Cannon gave the audience a history of their relationship, Jamie's experience winning an Oscar and what it means to our community not just him as an actor. The first hand accounts of certain events were hilarious! The autographed copy of his book was cool but the entertainment value was worth 10x's the ticket price.
Guillermo Gomez
Historic and super important institution in New York city and Harlem.
Not a mainstream tourism spot and that's great, well worth the visit just to see it and read the names of the greats that have performed there and contributed to the success and importance of the Apollo.
Chalkboard Theatre
Amazing. The gift shop needs work and the theatre is a lot smaller in person. But I felt humbled being there in the place where all of the greats have been. Fabulous photos of all the stars on the staircases
Philip Koch
I love looking at the stars on the sidewalk particularly Ella Fitzgerald and Patti labelle. And of course Aretha Franklin
Nora Woods
Remember the lady who used to sit in the front row of the apollo for years and cheer on all the Artists. I wonder what ever happened to her
Jeffrey Shanks
Great to be in Harlem it's changing so much with all of the gentrification going on. I miss the old days.
Jeff Smith
This was my first show at the Apollo and a metal band was probably the least likely thing I thought would get me here. I was amazed at how small the venue is, I guess because its reputation looms so large. The staff was friendly and helpful and you can't beat the intimacy of the space.
Paula Silverman
Great atmosphere fun nostalgic theater
Been there many times for concerts event's and tapings
Harlem is a great place!
Love the shopping Gym and Entertainment!
Karen Nguyen
The place itself and customer service was great. The comedian host was funny. The performances by others are ok.
Lana Wright
Harlem is where I was born and raised. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Great place to visit, shop but cost of living is outrageous.
Tameeka Williamson
So glad this historical theater is still here. The ticket prices for amateur night seemed over priced, but there are plenty of other events at the theater to choose from. Still a beautiful site when the lights are on at night. It never gets old to see!
Rosalie “Brite Mecca” Hill
Awesome ushers and staff. Friendly and attentive. Gave 5 stars despite the venue not having anyplace where patrons could charge cell phones. I couldn't capture moments with my favorite artists because BOTH of my cells died. Had trouble finding my ride for the same reason. Apollo please upgrade to provide charging stations or change your policy. This was a sold out show! #EPMD #RAKIM #LOX #BRANDNUBIAN #SMIFNWESSUN
François Maurice
Great atmosphere during the amateur night in the Harlem week. Hope not too many unmasked participant got covid in such packed crowd...
cassandra ogletree
It's a part of history that I think is definitely worth a visit when in NY. There are some really nice places to go eat near it. It can be a little congested at times though.
Hector Emmanuel Vargas Santos
The Apollo is a piece of history of the United States. It's a classic I love being here and you guys will love it too. Definitely must come here when you're visiting Harlem, NYC.
JOE HERNANDEZ
Never been to the Apollo but I definitely grew up with the Apollo. It felt like home when I arrived.
Viva Pancho Art
Anita Bendy
We thoroughly enjoyed amateur night at the Apollo theatre where the talent was determined by the audience. If you are ever in New York I recommend putting it on your to do list.
Adam Davis
Like going back to simple times when all music belonged in the house
Orun woode
First time there, a little smaller then I expected but the halls echoes with stardom.
Lynda K.
always a fun time and history to be learned very reasonably priced too. Take the kids so they can experience live music and real fun
Qbradley Witover
Classic venue in NYC. All the greats have either gotten their start here, or played to show respect for the power and history of the place. This time around, I was at the Weird Al Yankovic concert. Emo Philips opened for him, and it may have been the nerdiest audience that ever graced the space.
To review the place, it's reminiscent of a Boradway show theater space. Great stage and interior design. Orchestra, Mezzanine, and balcony seats available. All of them are smaller than an airplane seat. Check your coats, you won't have room at your seat.
Crook Bladez
Showtime at the Apollo with Steve Harvey..Awesome nonstop laughs one of the greatest NYC experiences you can have
Bellman Rodriguez Quiroga
The staff assintance and kindness are amazing !!!
D Rollins
The historic Apollo theater in Harlem and the lyricist lounge 30th anniversary

It's the Apollo! Awesome historic site. Closed on Sunday's but the lobby is open and you can rub the stump for luck. There's a mini walk of fame outside that makes great pics.

Root 100 awards event very nice , clean bathrooms and great ushers
Greg Ann
The tour was awesome! Met Billy Mitchell aka Mr. Apollo. He told us the history of the Apollo theater. They also asked for 4 volunteers, groups or soloists to perform on the stage. Last we got to go on stage and look backstage.
Shaaila Powell-Collins
Hey all.... the apollo was awesome. Very entertaining you would have a very great time. Totally worth the money for the great experience. I went on amateur night and had an awesome time. I had drinks and was entertain wonderfully. So if you get a chance get to the apollo theatre it's a time you won't forget! Make sure to bring your wallet because the drinks can be a bit expensive.. but in all you will have a wonderful time!😊
Dora Green
Absolutely awesome experience!! The show was great. The DJ was awesome, and Capone is so funny!!
Champs Construction Contractors LLC
Iconic staple. A little less than what I expected (gift shop very tiny and under stocked). But hey.... It was amazing to see a major piece of entertainment history... History period!!!
Phil Cappadora
It felt so majestic just to stand on that stage. It’s the most beautiful theater I’ve ever walked into.
Samara Riviera
At a taping of showtime at the apollo. Having a blast! Steve Harvey is hilarious! The place is a little smaller than i thought but still its legendary. Its beautiful
Jason Archield
VERY GREAT HISTORIC PLACE PROUD TO EVEN KNOW THAT THIS PLACE IS STILL STANDING. ALOT OF CULTURE HERE
Nex The Africannon
I've wanted to go here ever since I saw Mr Sandman escort a failed act from the stage during an episode of "Showtime At The Apollo". The venue is beautiful, the staff are awesome and except for not being there to witness the program of my youth it was everything I wanted it to be.
Fran Dixon
The man in charge was funny and great. Went for a tour and it was so enjoyable.
RdotBLADE

Judith Weinberger
There is not much to see, but of course it's a historic landmark concerning American music!
Matthew Price
Amateur night was a fun night. So many great contestants too!
Simon Milledge
One of Harlem's landmarks and well worth a trip. Iconic signage, stars' names on the pavement, and glittery interior with good gift shop. Didn't manage to see a performance but would be a must do on next trip.
Cee Wood
The heartbeat of Harlem.
Legendary Grounds.
Michael E. Wilson Jr.
Great experience at the legendary Apollo. My only issue is that the space is not built for everyone to see the screen on stage. Staff were helpful and moved us to a closer seat once the show started.
Coco wini Wade
Souvenirs shop had great shirts. Wife rubbing the lucky stump, that contestant touched on the show.
queen Victoria
I’ve been passing in front of it never had a chance to go in and I’m glad I finally went inside and I truly loved it the people In there are very helping the bathroom in there is not that big only 3 people can use it if you got to pee so bad you gave to hold it until the others are finish and for snack I don’t really know bout that but they sure do have some tasty snack back there they also have a shop you can buy t-shirt I mean it’s very very nice in there.
Russ Montero
Small venue. Great, friendly staff.
But HVAC needs replacing or upgrading...hot AF in there.
Traven is here
Incredible! Dont't think twice about going, just go! Been there for Amateur Comedy Night and what a blast. Alone the way the host interacted with the audience made it a lifetime memory way better than anything I have seen on broadway.
shadeofloud
Just back from the Amateur Night - a birthday celebration I sure will remember for ever & beyond. The energy of the place is feel it to believe it uplifting. The audience is there not just to watch, oh no: they are there to sing and dance - never seen so many sizzling dancers in one single place; they were there to laugh, and support, and yes, sometimes to boo, too. But only when they needed to save da planet from an alien invasion.
Capone, the host, is fuuu-ny, and at one point aks ya'll to hold a hand of the person sitting next to you, as a gesture of universal love and trust, as well as the sign of the much better times to come (Vote in November!). And the acts were also good, especially the guy with a guitar who won the kids’ opening act competition – can’t remember his name now, except that it sounded Italian, but I’m sure he’ll make it real big. So go, see, listen, sing, dance, laugh, boo, support... Whatever. But make sure you do go.
Sherice Coleman
My daughter took pics with santa it was very nice.
Portia Burns
Was hoping to see more of this historic place, but you need a group of 20+ to get a tour 😞... about a 15 min walk from the train 👍🏾 …
Danielle Estwick
I guess the best thing about the Apollo Theater is that it is in Harlem and the legacy of the theater dates back to before the Civil rights movement. I mentioned going to Harlem at work and a black co-worker has never been to Harlem. It made me sad that people who live in NJ have never been to see their roots and never crossed the river into their own history and legacy...SAD
Jort Dijk
What a show. One of our highlights to our weekly stay in NYC. The amateur night was such a laugh, saw some super nice rising stars.
If you have the chance, get yourselfs a ticket!!

Legendary and iconic Harlem theater. Unique portions of the theater’s Amateur Night, which started in 1934 and still runs every wednesday. The live-talent competition helped launch the careers of James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill and Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five, among others. Visit.

Iconic Apollo Theater perfect venue for concerts and other events. Can't wait till Amateur Night returns
Lisa Williams
I didn't actually visit The Apollo I just happened to walk past it, but I have been there before many times as a little girl. It's an experience that everyone has to try out for themselves at least one time. Go take in a show sometime or whatever they are doing at that particular time, maybe an event of some kind. You'll probably enjoy yourself.
Oliver Kray
I love the Apollo. The talent show every Wednesday evening is the best you can do in Harlem. The vibe is unique and incredible & the artists are always wonderful.
Jonathan Minz
Amateur night is always a fun relaxed event! Highly recommended
Donna L. Shepard
A group of us traveled to New York City, yesterday, to go to the Apollo Comedy Club where one of Boston's comedians, Corey Manning, was appearing. Below, are plaques of some of the stars who got their start at the Apollo.

Apollo great entertainment for 6 years old and up. Now you can see what happens during the commercials. Did you know the jingle "Nationwide is on your side" was sung, instrumental played, created by a members of the Apollo Band!
Dara Raynah Jones
Came here for the Women of the World Music Festival, and saw Alice Smith perform. I’ve always avoided seeing shows here in the past because of how busy 125th is, and that Apollo staff takes FOREVER getting people in the theater. They like to draw attention, by creating these obnoxiously long lines outside the the theater. But the show was great. Alice Smith has an AMAZING voice, so strong and sultry. She was worth the wait for sure.
Tabitha Totten
Wonderful historic theatre. Simply love this place!
Ronald Giustino
A gem great venue brings back memories of Isley Brothers performing there

What an experience!! I could not do New York without seeing the Apollo Theater. I could feel the history of this place.
Peter Basica
Absolutely AWESOME. It's THE Apollo ⚡⚡⚡
Angela Daniels
Harlem is the place to be for black culture and Caribbean food. Since I made it during the time of year in the offseason where Steve Harvey is not doing Showtime at the Apollo, there are other X that are being done on several days of the week like amateur night. When you first go inside of the Apollo there is a desk area where you can purchase your tickets or souvenir items such as t-shirts and things. You actually have to pay for tickets to go beyond their in order to see the inside venue.
Chenxiao Hu
It was closed at the time I tried to visit it, the signs were not too clear though - Only the gift shop was open.
Face masks are required indoors!

Very historic, beautiful building. The crew is unbelievably great to work with. Come see a show here and absorb the rich history of the building and events is has had.
Virgie Morales
Beautiful place. Clean and well taken care of. The have an elevator for the handicapped or disabled. They have coat check and bag check for large items. The seating was cool the place is much smaller in person then on TV. There's a bar on every floor which was great. Bathrooms were very nice and clean and there's just so much history there it was amazing. I can't wait to go back!!!
Juan May-Stokes
I enjoyed the theater. Unfortunately you cannot go in to view the entire theatre. Although the place is beautifully constructed I wish there was open availability to view the stage and get the sense of importance.
Nickie Gray
Seeing and enjoying the Apollo Theater where my nephew won and now host....
Idalia Smith
I went here to see a Dipset performance and it was awesome l. Just being in this beautiful theatre and the history it possesses. Crazy being a Harlem native and it me almost 30 years to actually attend something at the Apollo. Our seats were on the balcony and had great sighting to the stage. I can’t wait to find another reason to go back. Also they serve drinks that’s a plus as well.
Reuben Ricketts
Didn't see performance but loved soaking in the history
Joelle Johnson
Love that they are so supportive of the community. They help keep the REAL Harlem alive!
Keto Queen
History is so rich concerning the Apollo. So many legends have passed through there and you can feel the intensity in the atmosphere!

Nigel-Wayne Williams (Nyo)
Had so much fun here... And the talent is great...
L Stovall
The theater where legends performed! We attended a youth dance competition. The the venue is a decent size are seats weren't great but we could still see the stage clearly. It was very clean also
The only thing it could have been a little cooler inside. If you have the opportunity to go do it!
Andrew Pforr
Outstanding historical tour. Mr Apollo who runs the tour is a wonderful and inspirational person with many stories from working at the Apollo for most of his life.
Stacey Ramirez
They do well in preserving the historic significance of the establishment with modern twists in performances, with crowd and performer energy making it always a fun time. When I go, I feel as if I'm in another era, re-living a different time when amateur nights could make or break a career. I love it here
Crystal McKenzie Incorporated

Took my teen grandchildren from South Carolina and Georgia for Amateur Night.
We LOVED it🌟🌟🌟 …
William Abramovitz
Was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I had been there when I was younger but my wife wanted to see it. Everyone there was so nice from the staff at the front door to the people working behind the bar to the ushers. The DJ was great he got the party started then a man came out to sing and he was just as great. The band was outstanding the music sounded great the crowd was appreciative and the amateur night was amazing. Capone was a perfect person to MC the Night and he started out with crowd participation and went on to being hilarious. One of the best experiences of my life. It's great to be a African American! #PRIDE
MR. ALVIN
Loved visiting the historic theatre, lots of good souvenirs.
Tonya Johnson-Jenkins

We saw the Grammy Winner two nights before awards - Christone Ingram. He put on an energetic and memorable show.
Afrobride05
It has been years since visiting.
Looks bigger on TV. Seats are tight! No leg room for a tall person
Vanessa Spillman
The theater was the perfect place to be live
Elise Guadalupe
I love the Apollo, however, this time they get only 4 stars because the filming interfered with seeing the stage from what should have been very, very good seats and Jennifer Hudson who is magnificent.
terry Myrick
Great show!!! Really enjoyed it!!! Memories of my time on that great stage many years ago.
Kimberly Felder
Historic venue that brings all genres of music and dance to the community. Special community events and celebrations. Reasonably priced tickets and most of the seats provide good views. Great stop for a tour and gift shop if you are taking home a little piece of Harlem. Always full of community folks as well as guests. Check out Amateur Night on Wednesdays.
Britini Jackson
Been here a few times. I'm from Harlem so yall already know the iconic theater. Post covid they are still poppin. It was super crowded but they are doing the necessary health checks, which is appreciated
Alex Voseph
Went for amateur night on Wednesday for a company outing. It was enjoyable and staff was helpful. There was mostly good talent; I would say you should go at least once. Not sure if I would go a second time (but it's a little out of my way for me).
Hope Luvmesume1st
It was so much fun!! The DJ, the pre-show, the MC, were all amazing! But the band. . . They were awesome!!!!. They were so good they made substandard performers sound good. If it had not been for the band, some performances definitely would have been cut short. A great show from beginning to end!!
Kenneth Jones
Didn't get a chance to tour but just the ability to visit a place with so much history and the vibe of the people around made it so special to take a little time out of my day to drop by.
JG
It was my first time inside this building. I went to go see Santa Claus. And wasn't actually on the stage so I can't comment on how the theater itself looks but I did see lots of pictures of famous Africa American people who I'm assuming got there big break from being a performer at the Apollo theater. However my children and I did see Santa and were given a free face sketch of ourselves and some limited edition cinnamon Coca-Cola so it was fun.
Rick Franks
Could be the oldest theater in the U.S. and still open. And yes they still have amateur night
Pedro Ruiz
Haven't been inside but oitside is so cool
Stacy Burnett
Amazing experience. Helpful ushers, everything was smooth, sound quality was better than expected.
Marie Robinson
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Felt like a huge house party you gotta go!!
Benjamin Walker
An incredible and historic location--well worth the price for the tour with the manager who worked with all the stars. Seriously, folks, if you can think of a famous person, this guy worked with them. The tour is charming, but my favorite part was performing in the mini "amateur night" that everyone gets to be a part of. Totally fun! Standing on the stage of all those greats--it's a special opportunity that I'll remember as a highlight of my NYC excursions for years to come.
Rockin Rana
This started out as a surprise gift for me as an Anniversary gift and Birthday Gift, but it turned into a once in a lifetime experience. We were scheduled to go to the Apollo Theater for Amateur night. Once we got there, everyone was so friendly and cheerful and made us feel right at home. The show and pre-show activities were fun and really got everyone in the mood. My wife and I were able to meet Mr Apollo who told us about the tour they do. Well, we jumped right on it. We got a chance to see the Apollo backstage and got a history lesson about the Apollo Theater from Mr Apollo himself. I even had a chance to sing on stage. It was a dream come true for me because I have been watching Show Time at the Apollo since I was 8years old. Thank you Apollo for making my dream come true!
Wen Rod
It was my first time at the Apollo, had such an awesome night. The comedian Capone kept me laughing the whole night. The performers were all amazing, and so talented. I loved the whole experience, and would definitely recommend it to family / friends.
Gwendolyn Ott
The theatre is beautiful but amateur night was too long and wasnt as enjoyable as I expected
Cédric
Where american jazz music born in the Heart of Harlem
Levente Tóth
An unforgettable evening spent there. Great show, great performers on the footsteps of giants.
Larrolyn Ford
My friends and I enjoy going to the Apollo Theater for the Wednesday amateur nights. It's a bit all lives matter for historically black theater, but I guess you need to change with the time if you want to stay open. The musicians are amazing and they give them their own solos during the second half of the show. For all my larger plus size people you will comfortably fit into these seats if you are a 4X and smaller. There's no elevator so keep that in mind if you're taking someone who is not great at walking up more than two flights of stairs to get to the balcony or mezzanine area. The oceans are very kind and will gladly help you with anything you need and the gift shop is at the front of the theater. I would recommend getting anything from the gift shop before the show starts, so you won't have to deal with the large mass of people who are trying to leave and also buy products at the end of the show.

The show on television doesn't do it justice. You must experience APOLLO! Had a great time
Donna Martin
I attended top dog and the talent was mind blowing. The youth that competed that night was fantastic. It was very hard to choose just one winner. The adult performance we're just as equally talented. There is no bad seat in the house. This was my first time and I will return again in the future.
Jamal Jones
Got to love Apollo theater! ❤ Being there to see my favorite rappers Rakim the God MC and Slick Rick the Ruler and the Blast Master KRS1....Man listen. 🙌 …
Clare Scanlan
This was everything I could have dreamed it would be! What a cultural icon to actually get to experience first hand! We turned up for amateur night, and the crowd, the talent, the building... everything delivered. So much cheering (and a little booing for good measure). Incredible to think about the legends who have graced that very same stage.
Yahaira Roque
My son's high school graduation was held here and it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Stefan Glazer
The history and the acoustics are amazing here. Saw David Grey with my wife. It was fantastic.
Calum Morrison
Only made it to the gift shop but the staff were fantastic and there's a good range of t shirts, hats and badges available.

First of all, I have been going to the Apollo Theater since I was a kid.
I have seen a variety of singers & musicians over the years and have never been disappointed.
This Holiday Gospel Celebration with Donald Lawrence & Yolanda Adams was no exception. The music was very inspirational, enjoyable and caused you to get involved in some way, whether singing along, patting your feet, clapping your hands, dancing in or out of your seat and even.....SHOUTING!
The price is reasonable and any seat in the house is in full view iof the stage.
I highly recommend the Apollo Theater as a place to feel comfortable and be highly entertained.
Allen Fields
Amazing venue! The Apollo Theater is a must visit concert site for any music fan. Opeth was incredible, and the sound mix was stellar. A treasure in the heart of Harlem. I felt safe, welcome, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my mobility issues. Hats off to them!
Marc Springer
Superb looking theatre, reception area looks wonderful. There was no show on that day.
Marco Winkler
Great space to see a great 90s band, The Psychedelic Furs in.
Pride & Poise Cane Corso
Historic Place !!! We truly enjoyed being there !!
Steeve Stiverne
The legendary Apollo theater. World famous concert house in the heart of Harlem's 125th street. The Apollo theater has featured and hosted some of the greatest acts, some of the greatest artist in jazz, blues, funk, pop, soul, hip hop...ect. The theaters accoustics are great and the feeling is intimate and kinda cozy. A great place to experience the beginnings of some of the greatest musicians ever. Come with the family and kids and get a glimpse back in time of all the greats who have performed here, The Apollo Theater. A historic place with a lot of great vibes and people. I ♥️ It. 🤙🏿💯
Louise Polite
Great place for entertainment, and to see artist. They have an Amateur Night that the audience's get to rate. Prices are reasonable for entrance fee, senior/children discounts. For a night out with laughter and fun, I recommend it. Check online for event , time, and interest you want.
Ian Bichmann
A real local cultural gem! I was there for Amateur Night, but don't let that fool you, the acts were excellent! Audience participation is strongly encouraged and it made for a truly memorable evening. I definitely suggest you check it out if you are in New York and want to experience one of Harlem's most authentic local venues!
Deja Vue
Attended the jazz foundation event which was for an great cause. It was outstanding. The theater itself was small and thought, very expensive merchandise and the bathroom was way downstairs. Over all i guess that's expected from an historical theater. The demands were much different. The staff was outstanding especially the women that was head of security.
Daan Versloot
Very cool amateur night every Wednesday. Comedy and music like no other in Harlem! Last time the music was very loud (hurt our ears). Please loud music is fine but not too loud. Would give 5 stars if the level of sound was perfect. Perhaps next time.
Shawneal Sullivan
OK so it was first time going here for the mothers day special. The people who worked there were very nice and helpful. Now there seating on TV first balcony is horrible. There is little to no leg room. If you want to be comfortable I would suggest getting tickets on the ground floor. But overall it was a great experience.

We enjoyed Amateur Night on July 4th. We took our children (age ranges 15 to 20). They loved it too. It has a great atmosphere. If I lived in NY, I would probably go each week.
Erica86 ***
I had the opportunity to buy some items from the gift shop and rub the log. The employees were nice and helpful. The four star rating is because tours have to be scheduled in advance so we couldn't see the theater.
Wesley Thomas
Worked there in in 1989-90, great environment 👏 people were very friendly, there was a sense of making history there, I loved my experience at the Apollo. …
Victor Torres
Had wonderful time. Will be going again very soon.
Kevin L
We saw the Wednesday night amateur show. OMG, amazing talent, and the MC made us laugh till we had tears in our eyes. It turns out this show was the highlight of our trip, it was great. The venue has so much history, it was an honor and privilege to be there. We totally lucked out on our tickets and got in the 4th row right in front of the stage. Really enjoyed every minute of the show. Thanks Apollo for a great night out. :)
Alex Rusgo
Great venue. More intimate than you think
Dewanda Benard
Wonderful night great performance
Michael Guzman
Legendary venue ! Good soundsystem with no natural acoustics. I sat in the lower balcony at a great vantage point. As the place was Sold out the seating didn't feel crowded. Also the staff was very friendly too. (btw. A little known secret. There's a White Castle burger place that's open 24 hours for an after show, late night snack a block away !
Pricila George
Always a wonderful show. The best people and so much history. Met two women from Sweden and was able to speak with them in BECK. There is nothing funnier than watching people show just how much talent they not only have, but are willing to share with us.
Robyn Thurston
Magnificent space, absolutely brimming with talent & history, and serviced by a stellar staff. Best of NYC, hands down.
Connie Herndon
Such a marvelous place! Goosebumps!! Sorry I'll have to miss Lisa Fischer.
Supermodel ANTA NIANG
Came for a comedy show. 1st time vaccine check,. 2 hours of comedy. Legendary Apollo!
Always a great event.
Crystal Bryant
This was a great and inspiring history lesson so wonderfully told by a gentleman handle name Mr. Apollo who has been working there since he was fourteen and now some decades later is still going strong. I learned a lot about this magnificent theater and I so glad I came. Highly recommend.
Elvin Rodriguez
Went to Apollo.to buy my mother and aunt some jazz tickets. My mother loves Apollo and Red lobsters next door.
It's a landmark. Lots of history walked through those doors.
Comedy nights is the best for me but mommy loves jazz
April Dibs
Great intimate venue. Close to stage from any seat. Good sound system and acoustics.
Only issue: a good portion or the rear stage and a video screen can't be seen by those in the last few rows of the lower mezzanine. They need to place some monitors or something so everyone can see everything.
Roberto Franco
A beautiful venue in the heart of Harlem.
Frank Black
Born and raised in Harlem saw a lot of R & B soul artist during my teen years performing at the Apollo, great and historic venue ♥
Rose Flowers (MiMi)
Definitely enjoyed myself at the famous Apollo Theater 🤩🤩🤩!!! …
Jeffrey Zabala
Certainly an iconic theater, but a bit dated. The Apollo has hosted many memorable performances and the atmosphere is great. However, the theater itself could use a renovation. While the seating makes you feel close to the stage, they are cramped. I'm only 5'10" and while seated all the way back my shins touched the seat in front of me. I've been on airlines with better legroom.
It may not be my preferred theater, but I would attend another performance here.
Star Anderson
I had one of the best times ever. The host is amazingly funny. The acts were good. The DJ was good as well. Seats are small and compacted together but it was worth it. I could feel the history.
Zach Powers
Beautiful venue. It lives up to the legend. Amateur night is a high energy show that's unlike anything else I've seen. Make sure you're ready for heavy audience participation.
godfrey carnegie
The atmosphere that is summoned by the legend that is Apollo is so all consuming. I am struggling to think when I've been in an environment where I could not get away with giving anything other than 100% participation. It was an amazing time. In an amazing theatre. With Amazing for company.
Alberto Lovigne
Great place to visit at night.
Catalina Thomas
This place is amazing and such an important part of Harlems history. Just love walking up the stairs and watching the photos on the wall, makes me smile. If your visiting NYC please go, if your a resident checkout their events, there's something for everyone.
Marion López
Show was fantastic but left before the end do to the unbelievable ppl seating behind us. First off talking loudly to eachother during the show, not seating in their correct seats, than one of them took off her shoes and put it up on the seat next to me. That was it, we gone. Need better security in back. Waited over 30 years to go, happy i did. But a lil disappointed it was a mother's day celebration. Next time we will try orchestra seats.
fliery robinson
Legendary and still amazing place. Beautiful energy
Cassandra Mobley
Though they weren't open for tours. I still.got a.chamce.to see.the walk of fame. The gift shop.was.pricey.so if your looking to buy a hoodie. Bring some cash
Andrew Thompson-Davies
We just looked in the foyer whilst passing by. They have a small gift shop, but no tours or anything like that. This place is iconic, but you can't really get a feel for it from the foyer. You will need to see a show here to get a real feel for the place.
Caleb Fischer
Had a fun time at amateur night, plenty of potential talent and a few who should never be let near a stage again. The theatre made sure we were well entertained in either case. Venue is quite historic and famous. Glad I was able to see it in person.
Candice Chipman-Shaw
Seating is always perfect. No matter your section. Historic. All the shows I've ever gone to there I love. Recently went to see Smart, Funny, and Black by Amanda Seales. Fantastic show!

Dream's are Born, Legends are Made.
Almani Binchiani
Listed as one of the most historical landmarks in the Harlem District area of New York City. This location has a lot of sentimental items on display. With their own Apollo walk of fame. Many great artist have to come and performed at this iconic theater. Also known for it’s amateur night which gives rising stars an opportunity to show their talent. You can catch yourself enjoying its beauty, history and what may be a future star among us one day.
Rachel Antonio
The Apollo Theater is legendary. Do make it uptown to Harlem. It's actually not very far as you can take an express train there and most shows start early. One to definitely catch is Amateur Night on Wednesdays. It's just like what they used to show on tv but live in the flesh. Expect a range of talent from singing to dancing, all ages, and some not so talented. It's pretty funny and the energy will get you pumped. The theater itself is old, but restored, and in great shape. Lots of history in the place. You can feel it. Stay in town for a late bite. The whole area is pretty much gentrified and there is such great soul food around.
Ale M.
Performed here! Such an amazing experience!
John Axisa
I went to the amateur contest from the beginning to the end. A very entertaining evening with the trip and admission. I followed a dinner Richard Perez who covered Michael Jackson's dirty dianna. He was incredible
Dr. Craig Follins
My father first took me to the Apollo when I was a child. I always enjoy and respect this legendary venue whenever I visit. So much rich history that is integral to the vibrancy of the village of Harlem, USA. A must see for any tourist.
Athena Chang
We came here for the Amateur Night and we were not disappointed! The host was hilarious and CJ was amazing in tap dance and everything else. It was nice to see so many talented people competing for a few spots to advance to the next level.
This was a great historical venue to witness all the performances and talents. The seats are a little cramped but the host makes it fun!
I think everyone should at least come here once in their life to witness the old glory.
Bill Spitz
Major acts in an intimate and legendary theater.
Catherine Rubi
It was honestly so magical just walking inside. I went on a class trip during black history month. The play itself made me laugh, cry, and leap with joy. The sheer amount of history you feel from just walking in is almost overwhelming.... Almost. The people working there are just so nice and welcoming. Although the woman's bathroom is very small, can't say much about the men's never really been in there, I wouldn't want to change anything. It old and classic. Let's not forget the chandelier. The whole place just oozes regality.
Shernice F.
1st time here. It was a great venue filled with so much history. Can't wait to go back.
Shelby Mobley
Had a great time with sone laughs. Heard some wonderful young talent. Others should have stayed home. I applaud all who tried. Amateur Night at the Apollo is a must when in NYC and in Harlem. Great history there.
Charlotte S
Didn’t see anything here but iconic to visit as a place of history and interest.
Marcia Mays
They had very nice T-shirts... The pandemic prices were way too expensive. Had to opt out and just take photos by their signage...

Great shows. If your going to a show that's for studio audience where you see live performances televised be patient. If your not extremely early there will be a line going around the corner to venue. They will hand tickets as you wait on the line. You must have an invitation in order to have a free ticket. Use the bathroom before seating it's going to be hard if your in the middle of rows going in and out. Easy to get to by train or bus. Driving can be insane it's meter parking. Parking lots are in the area but not any. Best bet get a Uber/cab/taxi. They do have paid shows that are usually awesome. Small bathrooms. So go when you know no one else will. Enjoy!

I love the vibes at the Apollo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The Apollo Theater is a music hall located at 253 West 125th Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard (Seventh Avenue) and Frederick Douglass Boulevard (Eighth Avenue) in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City.[3] It is a noted venue for African-American performers, and is the home of Showtime at the Apollo, a nationally syndicated television variety show which showcased new talent, from 1987 to 2008, encompassing 1,093 episodes; the show was rebooted in 2018.
The theater, which has a capacity of 1,506, opened in 1914 as Hurtig & Seamon's New Burlesque Theater, and was designed by George Keister in the neo-Classical style.[2] It became the Apollo in 1934, when it was opened to black patrons – previously it had been a whites-only venue.[3] In 1983, both the interior and exterior of the building were designated as New York City Landmarks,[2] and the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is estimated that 1.3 million people visit the Apollo every year.[4]
The building which later became the Apollo Theater was built in 1913–14[2] and was designed by architect George Keister,[5] who also designed the First Baptist Church in the City of New York. It was originally Hurtig and Seamon's New (Burlesque) Theater, which enforced a strict "Whites Only" policy.[6] The theatre was operated by noted burlesque producers Jules Hurtig and Harry Seamon, who obtained a 30-year lease.[5] It remained in operation until 1928, when Billy Minsky took over.[citation needed] The song "I May Be Wrong (But I Think You're Wonderful)" by Harry Sullivan and Harry Ruskin, written in 1929, became the theme song of the theater

That was a great evening, full of fun, laughter and love. I had a great time, watching new talent. I have been in New York for nearly 4 years but this was memorable, really special. Comedian Capone was totally awesome. Thank you Apollo.

Always fun at the Apollo

It was a great educational experience. The acting Ensemble was wonderful. My students and I learned so much about the Civil Rights Movement. I would definitely do it again. My only quip is that is started quite late. However, I would definitely do it again.
Carolyn Walsh
If you ever have the chance to go to amateur night, go. Just go. It was fantastic.
Shaliesha Gulotta
Visited here just this past sat! I was such a cool trip and a site to see . Just thinking if it’s history and being in the exact place as all of our greatest musicians was pretty cool
Sergio Nicolás Aiello
A great place to listen to some music.
You can feel its great vibe the moment you cross the door.
Smaller than I've imagined (but that doesn't means that is a small place, it is not).
The sound is awesome: clear and powerful.
Christopher Goloff
I saw Lady Gaga over two years ago and just today I witness and fell in love with Alicia Keys...the Apollo Theater is awesome... just saying...

Didn't get to go in I just took pics of sign and at door thought it was cool to see where so many people been cool to see something see on tv before

Its like a party - you can't help but have a great time. The MC, dj and other staff are so professional they rope you in and make sure you have a blast. Amateur night on Wednesdays is fantastic and so affordable - date night or just friends poonight out its fun. The other shows that are put on there are great too.

It's always a Good thing to be @ The Apollo.
Kelly M. Mueller
Great venue to see a concert the acoustics are fantastic no matter where your seat is. One work of caution, if you sit in the upper balcony there are 3 sections the middle section is fine but if you sit on either of the outer section, the first seat in the row towards the center is slightly obstructed. Also, when people walk down the stairs to get to their seat, they walk right in front of you. If possible I would avoid sitting in that end spot. Also note the stairs in the upper balcony are very steep, although they do have handrails if stairs give you trouble.
Toby Magrath
Watched the lyricist lounge anniversary. It doesn’t get much better. Kid Capri, KRS and too many more to list.
Rhonda Duffy
We won a tour of the Apollo in an auction. It is an amazing place and Billy Mitchell "Mr. Apollo" shared the stories and the pieces of the theatre with us in a once in a lifetime event. We were so blown away with the history of this place and it is on my bucket list to return when there is a show there. Wow, worth the trip to go for sure.
Honey Bunch
One of the funnest places to go on a Wednesday night.
Charles Lauriano
My daughter will be performing at the Apollo
Jonna s
Amateur Night was amazing. Great hosts and some good preformers.
Adam Van Grover
Iconic theater, central location close to subways/public transit, commercial spaces/shopping, and restaurants/night life. The theater is always able to attract top talent, and there are always seasonal and ongoing/recurring shows and events - maybe most notably amateur night, which if the opportunity arises - is not to be missed. The theater is distinctive, with its own lived-in feel (though ongoing maintenance work has kept the space lively, and current), and audience participation is part of the appeal. Highly recommended.
Marilyn DeJesus
The place looks much bigger on TV. Really nice place but seats are very snug for the big booties. But had a great time. The mc had the crowd going. Lots of fun.
Rachelle Veasley
An oldie but goodie, careful if you're afraid of heights because the upper balcony is super steep!! I love it here though, you can feel the history in the place. Oh, be warned, the bathrooms are ridiculously small and cramped!
Elexsia Hood
Showed up on my first trip to New York City. It was during the holidays and there were Christmas singers outside. A man was outside and said we could come in, visit the gift shop. But, this woman stopped me as I tried to come through. She seemed bitter amd was not too friendly. We left. Oh well.
Vanessa B
Nice to visit a ironic and historic place just not enough souvenirs
Arthur Rufus
Smaller than expected from what I've seen on TV. The event I attended was packed and enjoyable. The seating was not however. I'm 6'0" and my knees were killing me after about an hour. I decided to stand in the back for the next two hours.
Star Bliss (Star)
It was nice, it could always be better though.. i didnt like how the security guy grabbed me from behind just to check my bag. They make you throw out food just so you can buy the ones that they sell and i wasnt aware of that. What about those whom are diabetic and may not have extra to purchase from here or no cash on hand???
Jonathan Arrabito
My first time at the Apollo Theater was pretty great. I was here for the All-Star Tribute to Don Rickles. I am not sure how the venue is normally, but it was pretty nice for this special event. I think they ripped out all the ground floor seats and put tables for the celebrities. The venue was clean. My seat was in the Upper Mezzanine and you could see the stage and performers perfectly and clearly. I would come back to this venue if the entertainer was good. Its just annoying to trek all the way up in Harlem.
Shirley Worrels
High energy, friendly staff.
Stephen Williams
Amateur night was great fun! Quality and clean entertainment

I came here for my cousins graduation. Coming to the iconic Apollo theatre for the first time was so exciting. Everything was great except for the fact that everything was extremely disorganized. The staff wasn’t very helpful and the second it was over we were basically shoved out of the theater. It was happening so abruptly that people were dropping wallets and bags all over the floor. I tried to be understanding because there was another graduation after. But we had finished ours long before our a lot time was even over. So I didn’t get what the rush was about
Jacqueline Tucker
Great, historic place. The comedy room was excellent, the show was great. The menu was limited to a few finger foods but they were good. Also, the drink menu was limited but it was good.
Juan Virella
Just finished watching Lady Gaga at the world famous Apollo Theater. The show was amazing and the Apollo staff is second to none. Security was on point and the customer service was outstanding. Thank you Apollo staff for making the night memorable.
