Reviews of Round House Theatre
This was a wonderful experience. The play, Nine Night, was about family dynamics we can all relate to spiced up with a Jamaican flavor. And the Theater's Cafe and bar carried the spirit further (pun intended) with island food and drinks. Very well done! 👏🏽 …
Great theater, comfy/intimate environment with friendly staff! I wish it was easier to get to (if you don’t live *on* the red line it’s a pain… not that Round House Theater can control our sad public transit system).
I’ll definitely be checking what’s available in the years to come!
This is DC's equivalent of off-Broadway, I guess. It's in Bethesda, about half an hour drive from downtown. It's also metro convenient. It's a nice theatre!
I've seen some interesting shows here. A while back, I saw "The Smuggler", an Irish one-man play delivered from the bar by the "bartender". Surprisingly good and pretty unorthodox. I believe I saw a very good August Wilson play here, too.
Last night, I saw "The Tempest" and that was pretty unorthodox as well. I'd seen it recently at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA and I thought it was a very good production, but was performed like any other Shakespeare play. This, on the other hand, was co-directed by Teller and had lots of magic tricks performed by Ariel, and had Tom Waits songs. I really enjoyed it.
Wonderful theater. Understanding staff when I've been there with field trips! They truly want everyone to experience Shakespeare. Accessible restrooms for all.
The Tempest was one of my favorite theater experiences. It was magical, well acted phenomenally staged. Loved it! Extended until January 15; go.
We saw the Tempest. Excellent production incorporating the magic of Teller (from Penn & Teller), the music of Tom Waits, and an amazing creation from the Pilobolus dance troupe. The theater is very comfortable, very close to the action, and no bad seats that I could see. The lounge in front is also very nice and comfortable with good drinks and food.
My partner and I came in for The Tempest, and were blown away by every aspect of production. Unfortunately, we didn't make enough time to really enjoy a variety of the food & drink offerings from the lobby bar before the show, but what we were able to get during intermission was lovely, and from food lines to bar lines to bathroom lines, everything was orderly and moved quickly.
Very interesting theater. It's shape, design and amenities reflect the new cold, impersonal, concrete gray and black themes of today. There is an elevator that runs from the underground parking garage to the balcony. Remember to get your garage parking ticket validated before returning to your car. The performance I experienced was tremendous.
Small venue but good sightlines and acoustics. Comfortable seats with decent legroom. Nice lobby area with a bar/cafe with thematic cocktails.
Check out the streaming options here, people! We recently watched THE TEMPEST and not only was it a magnificent production (OMG, Calaban!), the filming and streaming were top notch. Plus, you get your Shakespeare with captions this way. RECOMMENDED
I was privileged to see the great production of The Tempest. Truly a magical experience, and we loved the special drinks menu…
We saw the Folger Library production of The Tempest. Every seat is great! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would certainly return.
Great show! A real magician playing Ariel!
Just wish I had a better Assistive Listening Device...
Very nice theater, very well maintained, clean and staff is super friendly. Nice bar available to have some drinks or wine before your show!
Really phenomenal performance of the Tempest. Truly magical. 10/10 recommend. The stage was absolutely dreamy.
Saw the Aaron Posner & Teller production of "The Tempest" here, it was amazing. The venue itself is also nice, sleek and modern with many amenities.
Comfortable seating with good views of the stage. The experience is enjoyable -- depending on the play, of course.
Beautiful theater with excellent productions.
Small venue. Get there early for parking. Great show. Saw the tempest.
Terrific productions. Close-in seating. Nice food options, often themed to the plays.
Amazing, high quality performances that are put on for a cheap cost. I absolutely loved the experience. 10/10!
Great theater. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house
Shakespeare and play went with my husband we had a wonderful time excellent play wonderful staff
Amazing performance all around of The Tempest, with real magic!!
The theater was nice and intimate, loved the show.
Great venue to see professional theatre. We have enjoyed the international flavor of recent productions including Nollywood, The Great Leap and We Declare You. Terrorist.
Went to see The Tempest , it was a really great show!
Fabulous performances, most recently Nine Night. Truly wonderful.
Watched 'The Tempest' on a Saturday with family. What an enchanting experience!
Beautiful inside and out
Great theatre space, with no bad sight lines and excellent acoustics. Lobby space is plentiful and beautiful. They have a great bar/snacks facility in the lobby, useful both before and after performances.
I visited Round House Theatre for an event (not a show). It's a very nice Theatre with all the amenities you would expect a theatre to have as well as a nice set of features for events. I hear it was recently remodeled. I never saw it previously, so i can't offer a comparison. I'm looking forward to seeing a show there one day.
Excellent productions in an inviting atmosphere. Seating is close, and ticket prices are reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Convenient parking garage across the street.
Néwly renovated full production theatre in downtown Bethesda. Great productions and awesome, friendly staff. Lots of top of the line, local actors blended into fantastic cast ensembles. Looking forward to 20-21 season with a premier from a local playwright! Can't beat that!!
Loved my experience at this theater. I saw The Book of Will. I took my niece for a Christmas gift as first professional theater experience. It was a great show. Snacks were expensive even considering usual price of theater snacks. Figuring out parking was difficult as all the close by parking is metered parking but if you have a smart phone you can download an app to pay for parking. I for one never keep quarters.
Covid safety procedures followed well so that we felt comfortable in this special theater. Choice of plays always engaging. We'll do it again soon.
The tempest beautifully done show of magic and Shakespeare
Wonderful performance. Great venue with innovative and cutting edge technology. We loved it!
I have seen a few plays at the Roundhouse Theater in Bethesda and enjoyed each one. The plays are unique and thoroughly entertaining and the quality of acting is top notch. I like that they serve drinks and you can take your drink to your seat. It's also conveniently located near dining options and very close to the Bethesda Metro station. Even if your not a theater buff or you gamble on a show that's not your usual cup of tea, it makes for a great outing combined with brunch or dinner.
Really nice theater. I saw School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play with a friend and I loved it. Parking is right underneath the theatre- it's a little tight but there's a lot of spaces.
Beautiful venue and I didn't see any bad seat in the house. The production -- Spring Awakening -- was spectacular and a must see. The cast and performance elicited every emotion.
Absolutely Beautiful! Location, Customer Service, the play I watched [ Nollywood Dreams] all remarkable!!
This rating is based on seeing "The Legend of Georgia McBride" which was a lot of fun. I've seen several other shows at Round House that were not as enjoyable though not bad either. The other good news is that the space will be renovated in 2019. They say that the sightlines will be improved.
LOVE this venue! Great place for theater education for all ages, and quality productions! Nice to be able to see a good play without having to travel all the way downtown or NY. PLUS the metro is literally on the next block!
Fabulous original play by Lauren Gunderson, The Book of Will is a story about how the collected works of William Shakespeare came to be. I don't typically seek out plays by or about Shakespeare. This one however, was so incredibly well done. The actors were fabulous, the story line easy to understand and follow, the scenery was really impressive and scene transitions were quick. I would strongly recommend seeing this show while it is at Roundhouse. It is a new production, so every theater that performs it will have their own interpretation. Roundhouse did an incredible job.
Comfortably small, reasonably priced, theatre featuring local artists playing multiple roles in productions with a handful of actors. To quench one's thirst, there is courtesy coffee and a bar for something more. Only wish there were tea offered for non-coffee drinkers at the courtesy station, as well.
We're so lucky to have really good live theater so close.
And The Great Leap is a great show!
Went to the One Minute Play Festival for the third year and loved it! This is a great theater that cares about community and social issues. Very intimate space and comfortable to boot.
Lovely intimate venue. Excellent concessions, with great drinks and snacks. Safe and clean with vax proof provided at door.
It's na great little theater! Very well planned - there is no bad seat in the house. Always enjoy the plays I see there. Highly recommended for locals and visitors.
Very clean, started on time... seats were a little tight and small for long legs.
Their production of Spring Awakening was STELLAR and includes some of the best young actors in the DC metro theatre area as well as incredibly talented veteran actors like Bobby Smith.
It is a lovely space and the staff are very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is simply wonderful to watch any play. The exits are well labelled and the amenities are adequate.
Such a great theatre
Every seat is a good seat. The shows are very high caliber. The location is easy, parking abundant. Walkable from the Red Line metro.after dinner at the Daily Grill.
Saw School Plays, really enjoyed it. Remodel of theater done well but while seats are adequate, they are less comfortable than what was there prior to the remodel IMHO
Great shows, sophisticated venue, comfortable seating, accessible parking and close to Bethesda Metro Station. This is a nice gem to the area.
MISS PEMBERLY was a fantastic play with actors of excellence. Parking under the theater is so nice on a cold or hot day.
Just saw Curious Incident with family and friends... loved the production... superior sound and lighting... unique facility... loved the rounded stage setting.
Very nice venue, small enough to feel like an intimate experience while still having all the comforts of a larger theater
Happenstance! Beautiful lobby with beer and wine at concessions. Restroom is very clean. No bad seats because each row is raked up.
Alcohol in a theater best business model ever. The stage was a good size and we got pretty good seats.
Wonderful theater, wonderful productions, and I can't wait to see the renovated space next fall!
Gem of the Ocean is a gem worth seeing! If you read the screenplay, you must see August Wilson's work come to life!
Great theatre with great productions under tenure of artistic director. A record number of Helen Hayes Awards this year.
My first time here. I really enjoyed this establishment and will be going back. It wasnt a bad seat in the house. Nice and cozy.
Lovely space. There are no bad seats. Really nice concession stand with a variety of foods and drinks!
Great theater, some plays are unusual and unorthodox but they always make you think outside the box
Very nice & clean theatre. No matter your seat, you will be able to see the entire stage.
The Legend of Georgia McBride was a fun way to spend the evening. A well written and well acted show.
Nollywood Dreams was such a good show!
