Reviews of Trinity Repertory Company
Went here for the first time this weekend to watch Christmas Carol. What a great experience!! All the staff are friendly and helpful as you look for your seat. Great classic story with a twist. I chose a front seat because I’d never been but it’s a small cozy place with a great layout so there is no bad seat in the house! Highly recommend it.
Lovely experience at the Trinity Rep this weekend. Went to see the Christmas Carole for the first time. Loved the traditional aspect of the play with a few modern twists. Very talented crew and several great laughs. Hope to go back in the near future to see another production. 👏 …
TRC is a joy to the eye, the senses, we await to hear if it’s a delight to the ear. It’s the closest thing to New York theater. Whether it is your first entry or 10 years of visiting, it never fails to hold your attention.
My daughter and I had the pleasure of seeing a great show with front row seats to "A Christmas Carol"! ALWAYS excellent service by all of the staff as well. We had a great time at Trinity Rep, as always. Now the Christmas season can begin!
Part II of The Inheritance was worth the double-postponement! Absorbing, funny, tear-jerky. Long, but didn't feel so-a testimony to great writing. Bravos all around!
Fabulous place to see a show. I love both the downstairs and upstairs theater. The staff are exceptional the most wonderful and loving people I have ever met. The whole place is totally clean and safe
The Inheritance Part 1 was brilliant and the actors did a great job. Already have tickets for part 2 in october. Everyone was required to wear masks but people were allowed to wear cloth masks so it is security theater.
Been going to a Christmas Carol for 25+ years and one of the best years I've ever seen please spend 1 holiday season and check out this show it has changed how I live my life!!!!! Hope this helps others find something meaningful to them
Christmas Carol was a disappointment this year.A beautiful classic was destroyed. Strong cast but horrible story.I agree with the previous comments regarding Dickens rolling over in his grave. This version was an insult. If they offered refunds, I would be first in line.
Saw Christmas Carole. I have seen many of these versions over the years. This was not one of my favorites but it was good and the cast did a great job.
Went to see A Christmas Carol it never disappoints and I loved the female Scrooge. Play was superb!
Well done plays by professional actors with talent and range. I've had season tickets for a decade and have never seen a bad performance-- and only two that were less than brilliant. They make even old standards new again. And every play makes me think and feel in new ways.
Love live theatre and their rendition of Christmas Carol is always amazing. My holiday tradition
Went as a chaperone with my daughters high school. I very much appreciate and enjoyed The Black Odyssey. The Actors are simply amazing entertainers between the acting, singing and dancing. A must
If you enjoy theater and the art that is exemplified by the actors and actresses, then you should visit Trinity. Multiple theaters within the building, they are small which adds to the spirit and proximity to the stage. Sure, PPAC is opulent and the seating can’t be beat, but the size of the auditorium creates a space that seems a bit less personal when compared to Trinity. Definitely a must to patronize.
The show was great. Very nice theater.
Fantastic small theater. There is not a bad seat in the house for A Christmas Carol. We love seeing that show each year. Loved experiencing the cultural elements this year! Great, theater with so much heart. Kudos to the actors and staff here!
Saw Christmas Carol was a great performance. If you like Christmas Carol play try and get there.
Trinity never disappoints. This year's show was fantastic example of diversity.
Trinity Rep holds a special place for me having been one of the first places I remember seeing live theater. As a child I saw A Christmas Carol there and in my 20s I saw a number of shows that introduced me to stories and a variety of material I might not have otherwise been exposed to. Going back to the theater today after nearly two decades away from the area I was reminded of what a gem Trinity Rep is. Great cast and a beautiful, intimate setting make this theater company and venue a place to experience and remember.
Great place for the plays and wonderful place for learning. They offer evening, weekend and summer learning programs for kids. Nice and friendly people.
The 2021-22 season has been incredible so far. The first two plays have been some of the best theater I have ever seen in any theater, and I have been a Trinity Rep subscriber for over 40 years!
Absolutely loved seeing the Christmas Carol here this weekend. I was not expecting much but the actors, screenplay, sets and intimacy of the theater all added to the experience. Might have to try and score another set of tickets this season. Was very impressed and the actors they had for Scrooge, Marley, ghosts of Christmas present, Bob Cratchet and Fred were perfect!
Fantastic venue, beautiful theater, every Seat is a good one, really enjoyed Christmas Carol play. Love the fact the venue offers a pay what you can night
Great theater lots of history. Small intimate seating. The performers are ful of energy every show, brilliant acting that engages crowd In ways that make you leave feeling like you were part of the show! What a gem for providence.
Any seat is a good seat. Small theater makes you truly feel like part of the experience. Only downside is that parking in the area was quite expensive.
Play was a little strange. The singers were good and the children were very good
Nice theatre! A Christmas Carol was excellent!
Little Shop Of Horrors was hands down, one of the very best shows I've seen at The Rep! The comedy, timing and accentuation of certain localized stylings was a real treat! Kudos to the entire Enssmble for setting up the leads, so wonderfully ! Audrey really shined with subtle intermittent flourishes reminiscent of Ellen Greene... but more than blew it away with her shimmering vocals. Orin... oh Orin! At times I felt like Steve Martin would jump at me... but what made me laugh the whole time was the vinyl/pvc dentists costume! truly an accomplishment of reinvention for campiness! Seymour was fantastic and cast perfectly! Selfishly, in any production, I always want to see a stronger vocal performance from Seymours character ( understanding that's not the point) , but his timing and acting more than made up for it! Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon were absolutely fabulous! Their written purpose in the script was split at the seams and delivered so much more! Bravo! And of course... Audrey II and the plant. What is there to say?! I really appreciated her soulfulness and edgy rock rasp in her vocals and seducing body language made this a perfect stage production for me. Bravo to all involved ! Trinity, a treasure trove for Providence!
I saw, " A Christmas Carol". It was great. They updated the score and made it more relevant for the young people in the audience. It's difficult for today's youth, who are glued to their devices, to understand Dicken' s time. The music and the story updates did that beautifully.
Trinity Theater always provides an amazing experience for a surprisingly affordable price. If you enjoy live theater then I highly recommend any production. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent show, clever and entertaining. Small size added to the intimacy and live theater experience.
Their production of A Christmas Carol was one of the most innovative I have every seen! Well preformed by a cast solid from star to bit players. The performance included live music, several scenes with kids and a variety of stage effects. The staging was excellent making very good use of the features of the stage. A very enjoyable evening!
Just attended part 1 of The Inheritance. Captivating. Outstanding.
A Christmas Carol was a must during my childhood and was able to return this year and what a great job trinity rep did as always. This year's play may have been the best one yet, the cast was amazing and the directors take was so good. I highly recommend seeing a Christmas Carol it will now be a annual event for our family again. Also the staff is amazing and the building is great
One of the best theaters in New England. Reasonably priced - offering great discounts and deals throughout the year - and always thoroughly entertaining. Had the pleasure of attending a performance of "Pride & Prejudice" and was absolutely delighted by the fresh, unique spin they took on the original. Hands-down one of the best productions I have ever seen! And bravo to the entire cast - it was spectacular!
WONDERFUL! I had never been before and was invited by a friend who couldn't use his tickets. For only $37 per ticket We saw a very well-produced show with a terrific set and we were in the best seats in the house! It was a very good experience. And if you really want to splurge make reservations to eat at Birch across the street!!!
My wife and I attended A Christmas Carol on 12/12/19. First time at the Trinity. Having viewed the seating and stage arrangement online i was curious how the show would be due to what I considered a small stage. We've seen this production many times at many venues and been both impressed and disappointed. I can't emphasize enough the outstanding performance we saw. The use of the entire house to support the story was ingenious and surprising. More important was the performance of the cast. It would be unfair to rate one above the other as each was great in their individual role. I will however compare Jude Sandys role as Scrooge to others we've seen. Hands down the absolute best. Go before it's to late.
Great theater. I have been visiting since I was a young girl. Not a bad seat in the house, and pretty intimate. This years Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol' was a great show. Tickets are reasonable.
Just saw A Christmas Carol. Incredible! And for such a small theater, the effects were very well-done. Not to mention they brought in a local high school chorus for the night. I'm so excited to see another show!
Me and my family have been going since i was a kid to see a Christmas Carol and have seen other plays over the years! Highly recomend it!
Another great production of "a Christmas Carol ".
We saw A Christmas Carol here and it was great! The actors were wonderful and the space was immersive. The stage is very open, kind of drawing you in to the show. We had our 20 month old daughter with us and she was enthralled! It was such a fun experience!
2019's a Christmas Carol was hands down the best we've ever seen! (Been coming every year for the past 6 years to see it). The decor is always breathtaking, and it's always clean and inviting inside. Parking garage located nearby for a price.
Excellent production of "A Christmas Carol" this year. This is a cozy theater with limited seating, but every seat is a good seat. The productions use a small center stage and several smaller areas and entryways around the edge of the room. If you go, it is a good idea to pre-order your intermission drinks. You pay when you order them, then at intermission they are ready. You just pick them up and go, no lines.
Fantastic theatre company, much more affordable than PPAC but the quality is definitely still there. The theatre itself is on the smaller side, which is kind of nice because every seat is a good seat. There’s a strong sense of community and it seems they have a lot of programs for young actors/students. Joe Wilson, Jr. is a legend on stage and in the community! Come check him out at Trinity Rep!!!
We were honored to be there for Christmas Carol. COVID precautions help all patrons feel more comfortable. A special place in our RI community!!!
Great shows! Never a bad seat! A must at Christmas to see A Christmas Carol
We go to see A Christmas Carol here every year and each time the performance is different. The venue is exceptional and this year the stage was in the center which was excellent. The actors were amazing!
Loved Macbeth! Amazing cast, set, and a memorable modern version of Shakespeare, accessible and entertaining, not stuffy. The building is beautiful, staff very friendly, I felt welcome and appreciated; world class all-around. Go see a play!
This is a small theatre; tickets are reasonably priced. The performance was great. You should prepare to pay for parking; although it wasn't too bad cost wise. You can find some places to eat close by. It was a special treat!
A Christmas Carol was amazing. The players were fantastic, the set was perfect. My eleven year old daughter was mesmerized. It was a magical night we won't soon forget.
We saw A Christmas Carol, it was amazing as always! There was lots of staff to help direct us where to go and find our seats. We took advantage of the pre-order service for intermission, when we came out to the lobby, our drinks were ready to enjoy with no waiting on line!
Awesome theater. They have 2 theaters at this location and they also do so many programs for kids interested in theater and production. YASI young actors summer institute is the name of one of the programs for the summer that my daughter is going to. The program directors Jordan and Tim are amazing very friendly and great with the kids.
Saw an excellent version of "A Christmas Carol". Actors, staff and the physical theater are all first rate.
Trinity Repertory Theater offer excellent live theater. I usher for them and really enjoy it.
I've been a subscriber for almost forty years, and watched Trinity morph with the times. What a jewel we have here in Rhode Island! I've seen actors come, and actors go... Some to make it on the small and big screens! Tony Awards winning productions, world premiers of new works and playwrights, old classics and new original productions - they've done it all. Even when a play "isn't my favorite" - I treasure my nights out with "the girls". We are blessed to have Trinity in our midst.
My father and I literally flew in from Las Vegas just to see Trinity's production of Beowulf. The show was absolutely incredible. I cannot accurately put to words how much enjoyed it. Our expectations were high, and the show STILL blew us away. Talented performers, wonderful staging, amazing musicians and vocalists. Any time I'm on the easy coast, I'll be stopping by. Keep up the fantastic work, guys!
The Christmas Carol show and cast were great. I loved the theater and the parking next door was very convenient. It was a wonderful experience to start the holidays off.
Awesome place to see a show !!
Christmas Carol is always fantastic. Set was new and fresh this year. Fred Sullivan is one if our favorite actors. If you can, I recommend dinner at Bravo or Rosalinas before a show.
Excellent. Not a bad seat in the house, very interactive. I have never had a poor experience here! Came for Christmas Carol and am looking forward to performances later in the year!
Great place and plays. If you can join the discussion previous to the show!!! Also we really liked having dinner brought to us and enjoy the food backstage!!!
If your looking for a cozy, comfortable and intimate theater experience, Trinity Rep is the place for you. Expect a personal experience, and a friendly troupe. Conveniently located in central downtown Providence, come prepared for a true metropolitan night, filled with wonder and real fun.
Was in town visiting my husband's family and decided to take in a show after seeing the photos for the Trinity's take on A Midsummer Night's Dream. I have seen this show and also been part of the crew some years ago, so I know it well. I have even seen more modern takes on Shakespeare, and specifically Midsummer, but this was something else. Incredibly talented cast and a very interesting seating twist. I was overwhelmed by the blend of musicians, actors, dancers, skaters, kid's company... It was just, WOW. I even teared up a bit from the shear emotion of it all. It was beautiful and the highlight of my trip to Providence.
Great venue for a show, you are no more that a dozen rows away from the stage at the back of the house. Professional and funny. Staff was helpful. Able to pre-order intermission drinks is a great service!
We saw Othello in the upstairs theater. Most seats are within 7 rows of the stage, so even the cheaper seats are good. They always have a pay what you can night.
Been going since I was a kid in RI, and even got to work a couple of shows as a crew member. Great people. Great actors always. And top tier theatre.
Absolutely wonderful. So many great actors/actresses. Yearly tradition to go the Christmas Carol. Every seat is a good seat.
i went along time ago when i was a kid, now the effects were awesome, and the joking around here and there involving the audience was a great touch. the barrington high school choir had a great sound and they did a great job
Been coming here for 30 years the show a Christmas Carol gets better every year it's one of the best shows great family time great tradition .My hats off to the cast of the 2019 season a Christmas Carol
I have been going to Trinity for 40 years, my grandmothe rstarted taking me and my brothers and cousins to A Christmas Carol when we were children. I cannot recall ever being disappointed in a performance and A Christmas Carol set is ever changing year to year to keep a classic from getting stale.
Of all the theater companies to visit in the Southern New England region, none compare to the talent, production and creativity of the Trinity Repertory Company in downtown Providence. I have been attending productions there for the past 15 years, and I have never once been disappointed. I even participated in the Trinity High School Ambassador program from 2005 to 2007, where I saw every single production, sat in on rehearsals, met with members of the esteemed resident acting company, and learned much from a variety of theater arts workshops.
The Trinity Rep Co. holds two theaters: the Dowling and Chace theaters. The Dowling is located on the ground floor, and offers a rare, intimate setting for small but unique and creative productions. The Chace theater is located on the upper levels of the building, and plays host to larger and more popular and well-known productions, like musicals or Shakespeare. Every holiday season, the Chace plays host to their annual production of Trinity Rep's A Christmas Carol, the premiere theater event of the season in Providence.
Trinity Rep is a one of a kind theater experience that everyone should go and enjoy, adults and children alike. If you wants to experience the finest example of theater arts in Providence, look no further than the Trinity Repertory Company!
Went to see the Christmas Carol, excellent performance, high energy show easy to follow. We had front row seats so it was special
Providence is considered the best theater in the country outside New York for a good reason. I frequent all sort of stages in NY and occasionally in London and other European cities, and Trinity is right up there at par with them. The hidden treasure though is the Brown Univ. MFA program's plays.
Lovely theatre. Saw the Christmas Carol here.
They have the best Christmas Carol I have ever seen. I'm going again next year!
My girlfriend and I saw a play at Trinity Repertory Company. Great actors, phenomenal performance, and great seats. I would recommend this particular experience to anyone.
Trinity Rep always puts on a fantastic show with great acting & costumes. Their theaters are also pretty small, which usually makes for a more intimate experience.
Saw A Christmas Carol. Wonderful show and the venue was extraordinary!
Great shows performed by a talented group of actors. Plenty of good restaurants in the area too. Dinner and a show makes a great date night.
Great Christmas show very diverse and very inspiring......loved it well done Jude Sandy, Ricardy Fare, AJ Baldwin and Ribbon Gamble.... Well done!
We went to see Social Creatures Sunday night at Trinity Rep. This play is an utter waste of time. I felt sorry for the actors who are talented but the play itself is garbage. Save yourself 90 minutes and many dollars and don't waste either on this flop.
Open captions was very helpful. The play and actors were wonderful. Great storyline. Looking forward to seeing another play there
A Christmas Carol is oir family tradition and it never disappoints. Amazing performance every year. Highly recommend!
Eclectic performances. Creative, imaginitiv, at times minimalistic and always good. I especially liked Beo Wulf and Martin Luther King plays. haha...Spell check is going nuts...😎 Theatres are intimate, all seats have good viewing (side wings offer interesting perspective), and I was OK with the legroom. You should try SFOpera mezzanine seating..torture....
Not a bad seat in the house! A Christmas Carol is a yearly traditions, but their year round plays are always a good time.
Have regularly attended this venue for 20 years. Great shows. Sound and seating is always very good
Had a wonderful time at Little Shop of Horrors I have been to this theater a bunch of times and every time it is a treat the staff is welcoming and the actors and choice of performances are always top-notch and enjoyable highly recommend getting tickets for anything coming here just to show love for the fact that this theater is not for profit and puts on most of the shows themselves Bravo a standing ovation every time
I've never been here before but I can tell you that I'll be back. There is not a bad seat in the house. Hope you get to enjoy your show.
Accidentally got the wrong time for my show however the ticket staff person which I regret I cannot get her name but she was able to get all three of us into the next show on the same day greatly appreciated awesome performance, xmas Carol 12/22/2018
Easy to find and the parking garage is right next door ($20). Prefomance was intimate and excellent 👍 …
Thought the current production of P&P (Oct, 2018) was a delight... fast paced... quirky... while remaining very true to the novel's storyline and dialogue.
Never saw a bad show here. Been going since 3rd grade lol. Always worth it!
Don't miss this jubilant, timely, exquisitely staged production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Lots of fun surprises for all ages in the audience! Glorious music!
Just saw the Annual Christmas Carol performance. Good seats and wonderful adaptation of an old favorite.
Cozy, intimate setting with professional productions. Neighborhood theater meets Broadway. Great place, great people who care about their community.
What superb performances by the cast, inventive set design, and masterful musicianship. I don't see shows there as often as I'd like, but when I do, I'm never disappointed.
50 years of plays and ushering plays at Trinity has been a highlight of my life--laughing, crying, drama at it's best, watching actors start young like Barbara Meek and die the week of her performance in Julius Caesar, watching young actors from Brown become wonderful portrayers of the spectrum of human emotions, many Trinitarians go on to Broadway and beyond. Thank you all of you from the stage manager to Stephen Thorne or Joe Wilson or oh so many I truly love!! Martha Smith
Always a great time at Trinity. Just saw Christmas Carol, they put on an amazing show this year.I love being a member of Trinity.
Saw MacBeth this evening with a good friend. Excellent play and great actors! Friendly staff and lovely theater.
A real Providence gem. Very nice and helpful staff. Beautiful building. We really enjoyed "Pride and Prejudice" there last night.
Started a new family tradition this year. Not a bad seat in the house. Everyone is so very friendly. Can't wait to go back next year
Great cast. Christmas Carol was top notch!
Fantastic place to see a play! Small intimate setting puts to close to the stage and actor's!
A Christmas Carol was wonderful. Funny, scary, sweet. Terrific acting and singing.
Everything I've heard about this place on the travel channel is absolutely correct. The best brew house I've ever been to i had the best time of my life here i love this bar.
Great small theater. Saw MacBeth. Quality production in all regards from acting to set design, to music, to costume, etc.
A very nice and small theater. The layout makes it so that it is easy to see the stage from just about every seat.
Top quality performance at a cozy and comfortable venue. The parking garage one block away is $10 which is not bad.
Amazing venue. The show was great.
They offer a truly incredible acting camp for youth. My kid was excited to wake up and spend each day at Trinity Rep over the summer.
As a Season ticket holder, going to each show is like seeing old friends! Fantastic entertainment!
Always excellent productions from resident company, with occasional special performances (e.g. Sister's Easter Catechism - will my bunny go to Heaven?)
Great show and pretty good seats. I’d definitely come back for another show.
Saw Little Shop of Horrors. Excellent show. Singing, acting, and choreography was beautifully done.
This is a great venue for a show. Both the upstairs and downstairs theaters are fantastic.
This is the type of place that doesn't need much more said about it. I attended the 2019 performance of A Christmas Carol and it did not disappoint.
The performance was amazing. The Theater doesn't have a bad seat in the house.
Loved it as usual went to see a Christmas Carol with my kids and my grandson great time.

We saw a great show in the downstairs theater. Not a bad seat in the house.
Clean and organized. Field trip wise. Seating was good and you could see the stage perfectly
Went to see A Christmas Carol. Great adaptation of a classic story. Excellent
They had a wonderful play but trinity itself was a little outdated and didn't know what door to enter and when entered no one at desk offered help or said hello.
Beautiful and clean venue with friendly staff. I highly recommend attending a show here.
First time visitor. I was blown away be the performance of " Othello " . I will definitely be back for other performances!
Small but intimate theater worth checking out. Lots of parking near by also.

Very nice.
The theater is lovely. It has been quite a while since I last attended a show there. The greeter is top-notch. I unfortunately had an asthma flareup walking to the theater. The greeter at the entrance was courteous and took me straight to the elevator for ease to get to the performance theater. I was most gracious.I couldn't really talk at that point. I was recollecting my composure lol from the breathing fiasco. The ushers and staff were all great. The play was really good. I love "A Christmas Carol." I just really wish they would have left it as the beloved classic it is in all it's entirety.
Talent, talent, talent!
