Reviews of Walnut Street Theatre
Howard Dai
Discovered the poster for Rocky the Musical at the lobby of the hostel I was staying at. As a theatre artist working in Canada I was very happy to come. The very friendly box office staff gave me an industry rate even though I didn't have an equity card to show her. So surprised to find America's oldest theatre in the centre of Philly. Love all the pieces of history throughout the space and the cozy downstairs bar & seating area.
Patrick Hammer
I had a great experience when I attended a musical here recently. The performance was great, staff friendly, and conveniently located near some great restaurants like Talula's Garden. The only thing that could be improved on is the staffing of the bars during intermission. One staff member per bar was barely enough.
Barb Hauck-Mah (barbhmphilly)
Walnut offers an historic, incomparable theater experience! We became subscribers this season, and Walnut did an incredible job handling the challenges of COVID. They had to sub 2 shows, but offered excellent replacements in the same timeframe. At Walnut, there is not a bad seat in the house (no limited or distant views of the stage). Come early to check out the historic posters/memorabilia of America's oldest theater. Everyone from the Barrymores to Brando has performed here, and Walnut was the premiere location for some theater classics. Their prices per performance are reasonable and the staff are lovely. There's parking nearby and it's convenient by public transportation or walking.

Saw Rocky The Musical on 10/9/2022. Great Broadway-worthy show and Walnut Street Theatre was a nice place to see it. My only complaint about WST is the seats are cramped. Would be 5 stars if the seats were more roomy.
Kailey Parks
The history of this theater is SO cool! We really enjoyed our show, the staff was knowledgeable and kind.
Seasons of Philly
The Walnut Street Theater is a wonderful venue in the heart of Philadelphia. Always a great place to see a play or musical. Recently saw Legally Blonde the Musical. So much talent was on that stage, it had you smiling and clapping from beginning to end.

I love this theatre and have never seen a bad show here. The theatre is clean and the staff is always nice. Prices are reasonable for tickets. The reason for 3 stars is because during my last visit to Rocky, there was a group of loud drunk people behind me that spoke extremely loud during the majority of the show. I couldn’t focus on the show for the majority of the time while I knew half the likes and dislikes of the group behind me- what a time to get acquainted. I had hoped that someone from the staff would come say something but they never did. So I listed and listed and listed. In addition, while it was a 50 degree night, I felt air blowing on me the same as I would expect on a 100 degree night. I was freezing the entire show even though I wore 2 layers of clothes and a jacket. I enjoyed the show itself but it was mostly ruined by the loud mouths behind me and the freezing theater.
lance kellam
Americas oldest theater. Beautiful historic performance space with a small capacity presents rotating live stage acts.
Yolanda Brown
I absolutely love their productions. The performances are always top notch. A great place to go on a Sunday evening or whatever time fit in your schedule. Our seats are always the same when you prepay your season package. I love it!
Jeanne M.
This is such a beautiful, historic theater. The quality of theater is world class. I have seen many shows over the years. The latest, with my daughter to see a holiday showing of Cinderella enchanted me as well as my daughter
Jessica Jaffe
Always a good time. Seats are not the most comfortable though.
Regina Ryan
Easy to get to and the price is right! Bought a season tickets this year. Rocky was a nice surprise. Great cast and very enjoyable!
Mike Reillys
Wonderful shows especially the musicals. Been season ticket holders for 15 years. 5 great shows per season. Rarely disapointed.
Chris Krause
'Rocky' was an amazing production of music, laughs, lessons and inspiration. Wondered how the well-known movies would translate to the stage but WST did it! Great casting, sets, singing, dancing, and dialog. Was the cast selected because they were in great shape or have all those workout numbers resulted in those muscles? Fun evening! Thank you!
Shaya Pita
Went by her to try and find a show they didn't really have anything to exciting Ended up going right down the block to the other theater. Had a nice time chatting with the salesman here thought. Was a really sweet guy
Kimberly Snively
Lovely theater easily accessible from the Patco high speed line. Seating does not have a lot of leg room, which can be a challenge for tall patrons.
Lesley Austen
This is the MOST CHARMING theater! I live almost 2 hours away and it is totally worth the drive to come see a show there. We saw "Legally Blonde" there last season and recently "A Woman of No Importance"--both shows were excellent! I can't wait to go back and see "Bodyguard the Musical" in May.
Judy Russo
The show was excellent. Volunteer ushers are very nice.
Refreshments terribly overpriced - $8.50 for a diet coke.
Leanne M
Wow! Such an incredible theatre! I came to see "Mamma Mia!" And it was fantastic! The sound quality is superb and it is totally worth it. We had an incredible view and there is no bad seat. I would love to come back and attend more shows! All of the staff here were also very friendly and helpful. The seats are pretty small and you don't have much leg room but it's hard to even think about that during the play! Mamma Mia was a good show, however the cast was all white and there was no diversity. There were only 3 poc in the whole play and they were backup dancers.
Steve Levy
So happy to be a season subscriber to the oldest theater in America! The price is very reasonable, the shows are fun, and it's great to have a fun night out (even if it means wearing a mask for now...)
CHS Lancer
Lovely theater that offers great views from any seat! It's medium sized where the stage and performers are relatvely close to the audience. Seats are plush and comfortable.
The concession has a nice selection of snacks, beverages and drinks too.
The staff is very friendly, helpful and gracious. Great place to see a show!
Deb R
Last of the Red Hot Lovers! The show was great. We laughed hard! Thank you Walnut Street Theatre!
Tracey Marcum
Loved this theater! So beautiful!! Great views! AMAZING cast for our show (Mamma Mia) that was as good as a Broadway show!!
matt jackson
We saw Annie last night, absolutely fantastic. Theater was beautiful, cast was great, and the show was wonderful. Highly recommend you check out the theater.
Chintan Desai
Historically significant structure with some good shows
linda roberts
Rocky the Musical was awesome! The 70's styled dress was cool. The Apollo Creed had the 70's stroll. I had a great time!
Todd Corabi
Legendary venue misses the perks of new modern theaters but you wouldn't have it any other way sitting in this historic landmark for a current show
John Seals
Small, friendly, cozy, easy-going. I highly recommend seeing a show at this theater. I was able to get tickets at a reasonable price, and you get what you pay for! Even though we were in the top section, the views of the set were still great, and it was immersive nonetheless. I was surprised to learn how much history this place has too. I would highly recommend seeing any show here. They really know how to put on a show.
Frank Vasile
We have had a subscription for twenty one years and we absolutely love the WST. What a great venue for Equity performances right in my hometown ! ! !
Sarah Hash
Awesome theater. I love coming here for shows. Most recent saw Rocky and it was absolutely fabulous.
Holly Srogota
How could you not love this theater? The shows are spectacular in every sense....been coming here since I was very young, solidified my absolute love of the theater.
Emily Everlith
Beautiful theater and great shows! The house manager was wonderful as well
Carole Gallagher
Rocky was amazing. The sound system the lighting our seats everything was great.
Bina
I went to Walnut Street Theatre to see "Sherlock Holmes - The Adventure of the Speckled Band" with my sister. The play was very entertaining — I expected it to be a dramatic rehash of the classic Holmes story, but it was very funny. The actors and actresses gave wonderful performances.
Walnut Street Theatre itself is small and beautifully built. The walls were covered in artifacts and stories about the theatre's history, which were very interesting to read and look at during intermission.
Seeing the Adventure of the Speckled Band was mine and my sister's first time watching a professional play, which we were able to do thanks to her winning tickets to the play. It was a wonderful experience (it was also very nice watching a play and feeling rich for a night :)) I would definitely come back to Walnut Street Theatre.
BeeBags
Seats are a little tight. Well balanced sound system. Not a bad seat in the house.
Dwight
My first live play since covid. It tremendously entertaining
Alan Pitt
Last of Red Hot Lovers excellent. Actors were great.
George Messick
Fantastic theater to watch a show
Suzanne “Suz's Views” Danella
Got a chance to see two shows performed by the summer campers. Both shows were well performed. It seems like all the children had a great time!
Leslie Moses
Still a beautiful theatre. My only grip concerns the location of the bathroom, since I'm handicapped.
Paul Goley
Good actors, great performance of a classic. Fantastic theater.
John Mc Ginnis
I love this theatre so I've decided to be an Usher here. America's oldest theatre is a grreat place to see a show!
Matias Ade Francisco Barus
My very first time watching a musical theatre in oldest theatre in the US. That was fantastic
Bonnie Aezen Marrama
Great theatre and very pleasant staff!!! Small and intimate theatre 🎭 …
Cori Frede
I can't believe I have lived in Philly for ten years and this was my first time at Walnut Street Theatre.
The theatre is very small which means every seat is good. We had a great time.
John Crane
Took my niece there for acting classes and she loved it. The teacher was friendly and kind and made the kids feel relaxed. They have water, coffee, tea and snacks for adults to enjoy while waiting for the children's class to end and a comfortable waiting area. There is a paid parking lot next door which is very convenient
Bill Reithmeyer
I always love going to the theater. This time I wasn't sure I would. We saw Patsy Cline. Not a big fan of her. But OMG! Really great production. I am so glad my wife wanted to see it.
Terri B
Walnut Street theater is a great venue for those who love live entertainment. Always put on high quality shows. The downside… Seats are terrible for the most part. Narrow but space, and some rows have almost no leg space. Which makes being a tall person really unpleasant.
Scott Chilton
Loved it!!! Easy parking and ALOT of food options near the theatre for after the show...or before
Charlene C
Rocky was a fantastic show! Seating was great, staff excellent as well.
Mark Mcdevitt
Really enjoy season subscription. You see a very good play or musical every couple of months, and it stays a fresh experience.
Cindy Weiner
It's a fun, feel good show for adults. Great production! Superb singing, dancing and acting!
david lane
Seats are not as tight as some of the other theaters around town. It is a small theater so every seat is pretty good.
Ben Diamond
I loved the play tonight but disappointed in all the cell phone use during the play. Very disrespectful to the performers and audience.
Rich Frey
Nice Local Theater That Delivered a Good Night Out
Stayed over in Philadelphia with my wife and made plans to finally catch a play at the Walnut. We had a thorougly good evening. The Walnut is a charming, historical theater that provides every audience member a great view. We were 10th row left orchestra and the cast audience interaction made us feel like we were part of the show. A nice preshow pub in the basement offers up a place for a drink and casual conversation. End to end it was a very good experience.
Anna Geortler
America's oldest theater.great staff, parking next door
Roxane M.
I have had season tickets for many years. Cost has increased over the years for us but we believe it's of good value. We like the theater, the staff, and surrounding area. Plenty of places to park and many restaurants in very close proximity. There have been very few productions we thought were okay most are fantastic.
A LK
This theater offers classic musicals and plays and newer ones at affordable prices.
Alexander Fridman
Great supported place but getting outdated and not comfortable especially prior the show
Charisse Jefferson
Went there for my nephew play the theater reminded me of whn I was a child and we go to the theater nice & quaint
Patrick Manning
Great selection of plays. We especially appreciate the children's programming. Also, the acting classes are excellent for children. The teachers are engaging and dedicated.
Karen Bitto Creghan
Awesome venue. Saw Rockie the Musical. Fabulous!
Stephen Ranker
Walnut street theater is an absolutely gorgeous place!! The walls are lined with photos of Actors who have played in that theater are dating back to the 1800s. It has a charming lounge downstairs called Barrymore's named after the famous acting family, where you can go and have a beer or a glass of wine or hot chocolate and a snack.
Judy V
WST has been very generous to its subscription holders this year by providing free tickets for the season, since the status of the COVID pandemic was unknown at the time to renew. Great show this past weekend. Can't wait to get back in the groove of going again... Hopefully mask-free soon!
Sharon Refsin
This is a wonderful historic theater. It is the oldest theater in America. A subscription is very economical. All seats have a good view of the stage. The performers are wonderfully talented, too.
Gail Tillman
Awesome show tonight. Singers extremely talented. Never a disappointment when you go there. Have had season tickets for ten years or more. Will continue to get them.
.
Rebecca Barger
Great! Moana jr was incredible! The performers did such a great job! Moana had the most beautiful voice, and nailed all the songs!!!
Mary Angela Kane
Went to see The Little Mermaid. Everyone was checked at the front door for vaccination cards and IDs. Kids required to test negative for Covid. Ran smoothly. Everyone kept their masks on in the theatre. Show was great!
Kim H
If you love theatre, this is a wonderful place to enjoy live performances at an affordable price. Convenient Parking located right next to the theatre. Smallish venue allows pretty descent view from all seating areas.
harry mackey
Always Patsy Cline was a great Musical featuring all of her hits. Jenny Lee Stern was outstanding. Would watch it again if it comes back to the Walnut Street Theater .
Bill Lyden
Great performances easy to get to and cheaper than NYC
Joseph Lunine
Love Walnut Street Theatre! I’ve been to a bunch of the ones in Philly (Azuka, Arden, Kimmel Center, Suzanne Roberts, Mandela...) and the Walnut is one of my favorites. So far I’ve seen Mamma Mia!, Holiday Inn, and Matilda there, and each time it’s been a nice experience. The theater has a lot of history behind it as well, and it’s worth looking into.
Angelo Marano
Great place to see a show, and great educational programs!
Kim Williams
Great show as always! Friendly staff!
Bob Vogel
Great place to see a show. Easy to get in and out of, and concessions are ample. We are season ticket holders and like the selection of plays.
michael karabin
This is a wonderful theater with great performances. Very enjoyable experience.
Kirsten Souder
We went to see Mamma Mia. We had a great time and it started before we even got in the door. They do a wonderful job and the plays are always well done.
Dodie Leary (Bucks County Fuel)
The Walnut Street Theater is a wonderful place to see a great show.
Kathleen Carroll
Absolutely loved Young Frankenstein the Musical. This play was funny, singing and dancing were excellent. I highly recommend.
Jeff Emmons
My wife and I are season ticket holders and enjoy the varied plays offered. The theater employs professional actors and stage hands to provide a theater experience comparable to anything Broadway has to offer.
Brianna Edwards
Really fun spot with great shows and respectful crowds. Parking was pretty easy nearby. At intermission head downstairs for sips and snacks. Enjoy!
Linda Hrushanyk
I was invited to see the play, The Curious incident of the Dog in the night-time. The play (a wonderful performance) was at the Walnut Street Theatre. What a lovely theatre to see a play. The theatre, I was told, is one of the oldest theatres. It's really a beautifully kept theatre. It's clean, decorated with beautiful pictures of actors and actresses from different eras. It has a nice Cafe with refreshments and coffee and tea and cakes that can be purchased. John, the server at the cafe was oh so very nice as well as another woman selling water and refreshments in another area. Our seats were in the mezzanine and we saw the stage perfectly. I'm so happy I had the opportunity to see a great performance at a beautiful theatre and hope to attend more performances. Truly a wonderful place!
Joseph Maute
He is great to be back in the theater!! Place was clean and comply with all Covid rules. If you get a chance it’s a must visit see any show you can’t go wrong
Becky Lutz
It's the oldest theater in the U.S. Comfortable seats and a great view from the right orchestra section. We saw a comedy play that was outstanding! The actors were quite talented, and I'll definitely go back to see another show.
Karin Bell
Oldest operating theater in the US. Have gone twice, both plays have been extremely well acted/directed/staged.
The only negative to this theater is that it's chairs/rows were built for prior generations. The chairs and rows are very narrow, so much so that my 5'7" self almost had my knees stuck against the chair in front of me. I wish the box seats were available for purchase, it would make it much easier to come to see shows frequently. Otherwise everything is great. Either way, we'll be back!†
Amanda Stevens
Amazing show! We went to see "Young Frankenstein" and we were not disappointed. The cast was incredible and the scenes were brilliant and funny. The performances were unbelievably good. So impressed! Five star cast all around! I highly recommend "Young Frankenstein!"
Emily Hassler
We absolutely love going to the shows here. The productions are very high quality. It is absolutely worth it to get a membership, so definitely consider that. The only downside is there isn't much legroom at all, but you get so involved in the shows that you don't notice it. The line for the women's restroom is of course very long at intermission, but there are several stalls, so it moves pretty fast. Again, absolutely love the shows. Definitely recommend!
Thomas McGovern
Just saw show . Actors were excellent but the theatre is amazing. If you like Philly history it is a must.
Ralph Rizziello
We have been members since the 1990's. 5 plays a year. It has been an enjoyable experience
Francis McCloskey (ShakeDown)
I always enjoy coming here. The theater is a classic art form that is surely underappreciated. Thanks for having us. See you soon!
Justin Bohling
It is an amazing, little intimate theater. Had a great time seeing the musical of Flat Stanley today. Seats were extremely comfy, even for a large adult like myself. No seat there is a bad seat, great views from every one of them. Really enjoyed seeing the photos from previous shows on the walls showing stars from days past that have graced the stage. Venturing upstairs for our seats in the mezzanine we’re greeted by head shots of every former member of the performing group.
Pamela Turowski
Great theater for kids. Attended Skippyjon Jones and had a wonderful time with my niece and nephews (ages 4-6).
Susan Christopher
I love the Walnut Street Theater and truly appreciate the wide range of shows that they put on. I have been a season-ticket holder for six years now and will continue. Its location is good and the parking lot next door makes it so convenient to go downtown. The setup is wonderful but my only problem is at the bathrooms or downstairs and I always fear that some of the older people will take a tumble. Always a good time!
Hannah Solley
I love going to this theater! As a kid, I used to take acting classes there, which I would highly recommend. I saw the show Noises Off and it was hilarious and very well done! Definitely going to look into season tickets because I truly enjoyed myself!
Mario Caccavale
Great venue for live theater. Subscriber now for many years. Excellent value for a season full of shows comparable to Broadway.
Christina Butchko
The theater is small, but the performances are normally good and the staff is generally friendly. I have been allowed to move when the person seated next to me has strong perfume on that causes me to feel ill. There are a few actors that are seen in several of the plays in a season that are very enjoyable to watch.
Ashley Martin
Really great theatre experience last year with my family. Called the box office on a whim for 4 tickets to that night's show and was able to get a significant discount! We were in the mezzanine level, but there is not a bad seat in the house and no obstructed view seats that I could see. We arrived early and were able to peruse all of the memorabilia they have in the lobby area. Looking forward to another visit soon.
Rae A
Beautiful historic theatre with consistently great shows and a good atmosphere in the audience. Lately they’ve been making some truly stunning sets for the shows on the main stage, so those with an appreciation for technical theater will have an especially good time!
Alex Honeydealer
Oldest theater in USA.
How cool is it?
Eric C
Beehive is ON POINT! Amazing! Energetic! Great theatre, the show sound was perfect. Masks required, Proof of vaccination with ID is checked at the door.
Noelle Florek
Enjoyed a great show (Young Frankenstein) at the oldest theater in the country. The theater is beautiful and the staff was friendly. Only issue were the tight seats. Not much leg room. Over all, highly recommend.
Audrey Troutt
The shows on the main stage are very well done, with strong singers and consistently good dance and acting and costumes and sets. It's not a huge theater, and I really love that. Because of that, all of the seats are good. The programming on the main stage is very generally appealing rather than cutting edge, but I've seen some new and creative shows in the smaller black box theater upstairs. I recommend a meal at Pain Quotidian nearby before the show--it's light and delicious and the service has always been great.
Pat Marcolongo
My first time at this theater. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We sat in the upper balcony. You can see the entire stage. The sound was great. We saw the Little Mermaid. My grandkids had a wonderful time. They sat through the whole show. It was very interesting seeing the pictures iof all the stars on the walks. They sell drinks alcohol too and snacks. They have a parking lot directly across from the theater. I am going to see A Christmas Carol. I encourage everyone to give it a try.
Vince McNeil
A great theater with great productions. The theater itself is comfortable, cozy, and affordable. I saw Legally Blonde here with a friend and we had an amazing time watching the actors make this production look effortless, exciting, and fun. I'll definitely be looking into attending more shows here soon.
Brittany M
Love attending shows here! My family and I see A Christmas Carol here each year together. Several members of my family then get season tickets for the rest of the year. I try to attend as many shows with them as a possibly can. I always have a lovely time. There is so much talent to be seen here!
Melinda Fern
This was my first experience here. My friend had tickets for Young Frankenstein. Excellent show! The lines move quick. The seats are easy to find. Each row is elevated enough to see over the person in front of you.
The music, acting, singing and special effects were wonderful!
I enjoyed it immensely!
Loretta Tiver
Felt confident in the ways the staff and establishment handled covid precautions. The theater was clean and staff got the patrons in quickly with digital tickets.
Melanie Kornides
We had such a nice time taking our 3 year old to see a musical just for kids. Easy to get too and seats were comfortable enough that my daughter could sit on my lap the whole time (we had a seat for her but mine was better I guess). Easy to see the stage for adults but can be a little tough for the little ones. I saw a lot of parents using booster seats that the theater must give out. We will take the kids to see more shows here!
Mary Greenleaf
Went to the Musical ROCKY. GREAT SHOW!
Zhanna Davis
Qe always have an amazing experience at the Walnut Street Theater. They have top level productions for adults and for kids. Highly recommend it!
Austin Gwiazdowski
Very nice, classy place. The crowd is usually older, but that's probably just because it's theatre. I've seen some great plays here, but others were not for me. The venue itself however is beautiful, and I have no complaints about it.
Kim Davis
Love the Walnut Street Theater. Many parking options very close by, several areas to grab a quick snack or dinner before the show. The plays offer many options in seating and pricing. We did the group of shows a couple of years but w a busy schedule it's hard to fit it in sometimes so we do at least 1 a year which is always very good! Most recently saw Irving Berlins Holiday Inn which was Awesome! The Theater itself is beautiful and the seats are quite spacious for an older theater. The view from just about every seat is wonderful. I would highly recommend a visit to this theater!
Elizabeth M
Cute theater, right in the middle of the city. There are multiple parking lots nearby and street parking available
Mike James
I saw Mama Mia tonight. The show was great. The cast was very professional and the music and dancing was very good. The theatre is a classic venue in Philly. Always wonderful staff. Excellent restaurants nearby and parking next door. Recommended!
Elizabeth Heckman
Love this theatre!!!! Went with a group of students to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. The performers were great and the show was really cool. They also provided audio description devices to some of my students.
Clifton Davis
Plays are usually musicals by well known playwrights. Theater is rather Spartan but cozy. All seats have a clear view of stage. Have been upstairs and down and this is true of both areas. Chairs are adequate. I have a season subscription and generally enjoy the plays a lot.
mega Zuul
The venue is very nice and is convenient to mass transit. A very old theater that has been well cared for. Excellent sight lines, even from the mezzanine. While I was not a real fan of the production I saw there, that has nothing to do with the facility itself.
Karen Marchese
Great entertainment for all. The children's shows are aweome and a great way to introduce young ones to theater. All of the productions are professional, well staged, with delightful actors. The seating leaves a little to be desired, but I guess that is to be expected from at such an historical venue.
The_Sojourner
Superb acting that is like being on Broadway New York!!!!
I recently got the opportunity to see Shrek The Musical and it was now one of my favorite Broadway plays of all time!! The entire cast was Amazingly talented and it was a great and wonderful show! Also the theater was extremely clean, decent sized and really comfortable. Would highly recommend going although I wish they extended Shrek for a few months longer!!!
Jagadesh K
Just watched MATILDA.. Awesome stage show.. Very talented kids, well choreographed & music rendition. Good work team MATILDA.. Hats off.. 👏👏👌🥰👍
I was amazed at the talent of the girl who played the character.. Definitely she will go places..
Walnut Street theatre..My first experience here..Looks like the heritage is still maintained.. Surprised to know not for profit theatre.. Amazing experience today.. Good performance arts theatre🤩👍.. I will come for more..
Bill R
Saw the play "Holiday Inn" and it was absolutely fantastic. Well staged, live band, good visibility from almost every seat. The access is good and plenty of parking garages and lots near by. Many coffeehouses and restaurants close to the theater. Building is kept in pretty good shape.
Lynnette Camacho
Worth getting the season of tickets. Even when I don’t know a show, I end up liking it. Really great production and stage design. Everyone is friendly and truly a great experience every time. It’s fun seeing a lot of the same actors in different roles.
Everette Long
Used to be regulars for off Broadway shows. No more. Got tired of same playwrights. In fairness, if you select a play you are interested in, it's great. A membership we found to be hit and miss with 50% we walked out at intermission. Some good some bad some very good.
Maggie Johnson
Saw the play “The Humans” with a friend and it was excellent! The set design was gorgeous and the acting was great. Our seats were a little snug since the seats are all close together but it was cozy and the sound was great and overall a great time!
Svetlana Schneider
Every seat is a good seat. Space between rows is a bit cramped, though. You can buy tickets directly from their website, so avoid stubhub. Parking is very convenient, and if you come to an evening show you can park for free on the street at some locations (observe parking restrictions posted). This theatre has a wonderful company of actors, i have never been disappointed with any production.
Colette Jackson
One of the best investment in my marriage. We've had season tickets for both upstairs and main theater for a few years now. This gives us a monthly date night that we really look forward to. The plays are Awesome! Such talent, we laugh, we cry, we are always moved. The music, and sets are stunning. We so enjoy our evening there and continue to chat about the experience for days and days afterward. And to be honest there is something humbling knowing that Walnut Street is the oldest theater in the country, that people like Thomas Jefferson and LaFayette have attended. Heady stuff.
Katie D'Amico
Saw Young Frankenstein tonight. Great show, the comedy was awesome. Actors and Actresses were also amazing. I loved the light and prop displays. Also in enjoy how they used the whole theater as there stage. Only reason I'm giving them a 4 star is the seating. You have no leg space. Thank goodness no one was sitting next to me so I could stretch out. Also didn't have anything really nice in the gift shop. But I would go back to see other show! Graet performance!
David Smedley
Caught a show here on a Saturday, found the parking situation very convenient (compared to most things in the city) if not somewhat disorganized, and the location excellent for a night out. The seating was great, the service was good at the convenient consession stands, and the show was phenomenal. Only downside was dealing with Ticketmaster to see the show.
DAVID SALKIN
Great theater with amazing history. As a bigger person the seats are a little small
Allie G
We are season ticket holders. We love this place. The actors and actresses are always amazing. The musical talent and singing is wonderful and we have seen so many different types of shows here... Comedies, whodunnits, serious-type plays and of course musicals. The last one, Annie, we had brought our 4 yr old to see and she loved it too. The quality of talent at the WST is unmatched. Highly recommend.
Andrea Stehman
Had a fun time at an amazing performance of Young Frankenstein. I got to share the experience with my fiance and my bestie. We enjoyed seeing the history of the theater from the pictures and descriptions on the walls. The theater was also very comfortable with the air circulating.
Leon Winstanley
Oldest theatre in the country. Old style charm. Easy to get to. Great view from Mezz. Row A, seats 303, 304
Matthew Chancey
Watched the Walnut Street Theatre's production of Annie. The show was excellent the acting and singing were superb. Only four stars because of the seating. The seat rows are very close together. My knees touched the seats in front of me and I am only five foot eight inches tall. That being said I would go again to catch another show there.
Emma Beckers
This is a wonderful theatre close to Old City Philadelphia. Their season main stage shows are always great and they have a wonderful line up in their Independence Studio on 3 as well. There are a ton of great restaurants nearby, so you can definitely make this part of an awesome date night!
David Bettinger
Had a great experience at The Walnut Street Theatre for me & my wife and thoroughly enjoyed the Broadway show A Comedy Of Tenors. Looking forward to the next show in April, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Thanks to all for a wonderful time for the both of us.
Joyce Kloss
As usual, a great show, in this case a farce, and done well, and we parked right next door, a bit pricy, but they took the car in so we weren't too late.
Jenn Cicco
Adorable, historic theatre. Shows are always excellent. Seats are a bit tight, but it's old. Very well kept. I've seen quite a few shows here and leave smiling every single time!!
Benita Boccella
I have many going to the Walnut Street Theater for many years. It is a wonderful theater, because there isn't a bad seat in the house. The last time I went with my children, we were in the last row of the theater and we had no trouble seeing the stage and enjoying the show. This theater is much for affordable than some of the others in Philadelphia, but still runs exceptionally well shows.
Joe Slane
Truly an amazing place and at 150 years still going strong. I have been there many times and have never seen a bad performance
judy auspitz
A Comedy of Tenors was entertaining. We have a subscription to walnut Street Theater and have enjoyed it over the years but recently we've found ourselves leaving at intermission. This show was fun. I hope it's the upturn for which we've been waiting. The Walnut, being the oldest theater is a nicely kept theater. If you are a larger person, make sure you get an aisle seat, especially if you are seated in the mezzanine. We had to change seats because there was no room for my knees between my seat and the seat back in front of me. I'm only 5'6". Also, there's no railing along the stairs in the mezzanine and we've seem many people stumble and fall when talking to and from their seats.
Minh Chau
We had a lovely time at the Walnut Street Theatre, courtesy of a Yelp Elite event (final rehearsal for Good People). The theatre looks small, but can pack 1000+ people. It's clean. The sound system was great. The actors / actresses' voices projected well into the audience.
Good People was a hilarious and honest play that serves as a good reminder of the intertwining roles of luck and choice in our lives. Check it out!
Kevin O
I was skeptical at first. Went to see Annie with my family a few weeks ago. Excellent performance by all involved. The set was beautiful and the children were much better performers than I expected. The building has a lot of charm as well. Would recommend.
Kathleen PETRINI
Enjoyed a great production of "Legally Blonde." The cast was wonderful, the choreography excellent and the show itself very entertaining. What made this light-hearted show even better was the blend of a happy playfulness mixed with a serious point about personal dignity and determination. The actors and actresses made it even more enjoyable through their obvious talent and the enjoyment eminating from the stage. It was just so much fun to watch!
Leia Szychulski
Beautiful theatre. Oldest in America, so lots of history to read about there as well. Not hugely handicapped accessible. No elevator to lower floor. There is one to the upper mezzanine. I didn't see many places where you could have someone sit in theatre with a wheelchair. However, they are planning on building a whole new section to the original theatre. I have no doubt that they will take some of those things into consideration when planning.
Adam Kelley
The theater is the oldest in the country! But you wouldn't know by how clean and in great shape it is. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I saw Matilda with my family - great show! The only thing maybe negative is the small seats. I'm not a big guy but the seats have zero leg room, so if you're on the larger size, you may be extra cramped.
Jacqueline Lukas
The main stage does 5 excellent Broadway plays per season. The seats are small, but nice. There is a balcony section for cheaper seats. A subscription is best way to get the most for your money. There is a cash bar in the lobby.
The theatre is the longest continuously running theatre in the U.S. And many historical famous actors have played there.
Rich
Show was wonderful but the seating is very tight!. I am 6'4" and there is no way I could be comfortable in that theatre. The seating should be ripped out and replaced with larger seating for today's population. People were a lot smaller in the early 1900's.
Donna Williams
Had a great time seeing Cinderella!!!
Dylan Aviv
This is truly an incredible theater to visit. It has an incredible group of actors, which effortlessly will draw you in during their preformances. They produce high quality plays at a relatively affordable price point. The staff is extremely nice, helpful, and informative on different topics. This is truly a very fun expirence if you would wish to go to a play at this theater.
Sue Ellen Colter
I have bought a subscription for almost ten years. The first time I visited the theatre I was taken with its history. I couldn’t believe that I was in the oldest theatre in America. The size of the seats indicate that it was built in an age when people were smaller.
In recent years the theatre has moved more from serious plays and occasional musicals to more musicals with the occasional mystery or serious play. I don’t mind the change, but older subscribers have not been happy. I hope that the change was to keep the theatre current and financially healthy.
Matt Bolopue
I've had season tickets here for years because of my parents. Never had a bad time, though there have been some questionable plays through the years. One was about a guy and his uncle both being in love with the same girl, and then in the end they just decide "this is fine as long as we keep it in the family." Fun times for the whole family!
Gina Vincent
I have been a Walnut Street Theatre subscriber for about 13 years and I love it! The performers bring the shows to life! Tonight's show, Legally Blond was by far, one of the best!! Everyone did an absolutely fantastic job! I can't wait to go back and see it with my girlfriends again!
Deborah Hrustich
Delightful ensemble. Excellent entertainment. The theater is eclectic and neat. Highly recommend.
Robert Blew
We have been to a few shows here, and it truly is a gem of Philadelphia. Their production is nearly on par with the mega shows that roll through town at the bigger theaters, and their community outreach is second to none. It's simply good people putting on great performances.
EDWARD MITCHELL
Always have a great time at the WALNUT ST THEATRE.
Cheryl Powell
Oldest theatre in continuous operation in US and still going strong! Wonderful shows! Only criticism is seats are a little cramped for extremely tall and/or overweight folk ... But as it was built in 1809 you have to expect that. Many of the great theatres in London are the same way.
Alex Punchello
Maria and I go to the Walnut every other month and always have a wonderful time. The history of the building is awe inspiring. The serve alcohol; always a plus 🤣. Not all the show's are great but all the evenings we go are. After the shows we go down the street to Stella's for fantastic pizza and of course more alcohol. Great evening out!
Frank Greenagel II
A very fine theater. Historical. Good sets and costumes. Very good actors.
Phillipa Wright
I went here to see A Comedy of Tenors. The show was fantastic. Witty, hyperbolical, energetic, hilarious and well performed. The theater was quite nice for this kind of show. The history of it alone probably makes it worth seeing at least one show here. I recommend checking it out, whether visiting or as a Philly native.
James Williams
We saw CINDERELLA. It was so good
Maria Demjanczuk
Great little theater.
Only issue is one bathroom all the way in the basement.
100 people in line.
All these poor senior citizens were struggling up and down the steps for a bathroom break.
Would be nice to have one on the theater level floor.
Wendy Gettis
Shows are Excellent, Everytime. Seating is very tight. Very old theater. Currently not selling soft drinks or snacks. Please Donate to Children's Theater 🎭. …
Paul Emanuel Voorhees
This is a true American gem! It’s draped in countless tales and interesting facts and has solidified is significance in American history. I believe it’s the oldest running theatre in the country. Although the theatre is over 200 years old, the Artistic Director & Managing Director always bring a breath of fresh air to every show...while maintaining the integrity of every production. Your best bet is to purchase the season pass. You’ll find it to be great buy. If you can’t make a show or want to gift a show to a friend, it’s very simple to do. This also guarantees the same seating for each show...very nice. The house manager Ang has been there for years and makes sure the house operates like a fine well oiled machine. I’m excited to see what the future brings to WST, as they have an amazing plan in the works to build a theatre in the round next door...exciting!
Karen Lee Bitto
Saw Rocky the musical. Awesome
Corey Stradling (JamesonStewart)
I have ushered many shows at this theatre. The shows are top notch. I've been to many theatres. I'm an actor and tech, myself. I know pros when I see them. In fact, I'd love to work there.
If you're looking for a enjoyable evening, Walnut Street won't let you down.
Jennifer Blumberg
Great performances in a beautiful theater at a more affordable price! We have had an annual subscription for over 5 years, and now we also do the subscription for the children's theatres which our boys love!
charles ortiz
Nice local theater but like all these older theaters the sitting us tight
Tara Shima
Great plays, nice atmosphere, good actors! Pleasant workers! All around nice place! Family oriented also, great plays for kids! Tickets are sold at reasonable rates!! Seeing Muffy the Cat is always a cheerful bonus!!
Valerie Quackenbush
Is always a great show. Staff and volunteers are uber friendly. If you have never been, go
Frank Gioffre
Very nice, small theater, right in the heart of Philadelphia. The productions are well done. Sight lines and acoustics are both good.
The rest rooms are clean. Even the food at the concession stand is reasonably priced.
Amie Faillace
Unfortunately because of Covid there were no concessions opened. However, the show was great comfortable seating good acoustics.
njpolkaguy
Great show, good time. Wish the seats had more room.
John Paul Murray
I have been a subscribing member for about 3 years now. It started as a birthday gift to my girlfriend, but now I buy the tickets just as much for me. They put on a good show at America's oldest theater.
Kay Friel
We have a yearly subscription to this small theater and really enjoy the shows. Very professional and reasonably priced.
Matt Bloome
This is one cool theater. We've seen some great shows here, but more than that, the theater itself is really interesting. The building is full of history as evidenced by the photos and old playbills hanging on every available wall in the lobbies. If you are going to your first show here, you may want to show up a little bit early to check out everything on display. In the basement, there's a pleasant little bar (where I've admittedly only sampled the hot chocolate). It's called Barrymore's after the famous Barrymore family of actors, all of whom performed here at some point in their careers. With fairly priced tickets and high quality shows, this is definitely worth a visit, whether you're a local or you're visiting Philly from out of town.
Robert Curcio
Oldest theater in the U.S.A in Philadelphia . No matter where you are seated you have a good vantage point of the show.
John Harman
Excellent play. Really funny!!!
Charles Kramer
I have gone to the Walnut Street Theater for 20 years and it is always memorable. It isn't just the oldest theater in America, but maybe the best theater value in America. As a production theater The Walnut seems to always out due any preconceived notions, and provide a wonderful experience. eNJoy
Viacheslav Stetskevych
Matilda the musical was great. My only complaint there is very tight seating. Also they don't have a coat rack so all coats add to the lack of space.
Mr. Ken Eidinger
There's a reason this historic theater has been around for over 210 years. The shows are excellent, the talent is world class, the productions are stellar, and the property itself is very well maintained.
Hey DJSpike
First time there to see Lily and Bean. Awesome theatre very organized. Took my daughter who was entertained. No collectibles for our show was the only down side. Lots of school trips that day.
Patrice Soares
I just love this theater! It's tight on legroom but the theater is so beautiful and the performances so well done that I hardly noticed. Great troupe of regular performers and great location in the city! Love!
Joshua Scheuermann
My wife and I have been subscribers for the last 7 years. I love going to the Walnut Street Theater's shows. We're only in our mid-30's so haven't seen many of the shows. For us, it is a great way to see a variety of older and more recent Broadway shows each year. All of the shows are produced by the WST and the sets are built in-house. You see many of the same actors in various shows, so it feels almost like you are a part of the theater family. All of the shows are well done and the acting is top notch. We have fun every time that we go to the WST.
E H
Saw Matilda on Saturday night, wonderful production with a great cast and a real pit orchestra, not recorded music. It was great to see many kids in the audience too! The Walnut is a fantastic theater, with a ton of history. Check out the photos on the lobby and stair walls.
Sarah Hash
A lovely place to see a show. I always enjoy coming here when my friend invites me
Shawn C
Drinks a tpuch overpriced and seating isn't at enough of an incline to see over people in front of you. Great theatre otherwise. Lot's of history, clean, amenities, etc... Show was awesome, too!
Dolores Petrocelli
Great venue for a show top notch
Will Andersen
We drive up to see Broadway musicals in NYC often, but when the Walnut Theater is putting on a show, we ALWAYS go. Fantastic company. It's cheap and fun for everyone. Can't believe how great they really are. The theater itself is beautiful, and if it were bigger, I'd think I was in a Broadway theater. Parking is tricky, we usually park on a nearby street, try to be early and you'll be fine. This is local theater at its finest.
DAN WEST
Best place to see a performance!! Big stage with a cozy yet comfortable atmosphere
Robert Lankin
All the shows are wonderful...we have been subscribers for years. The orchestra, the sets and costumes are fabulous. Also great service when exchanging tickets.
Mark Hatoff
My wife and saw Noises Off last night. We are longtime subscribers and we thought that the cast did an outstanding job! We were laughing the entire show and recognized the difficulty level of the timing, dialogue and physical comedy. By far the most hilarious show we have seen at the Walnut. It deserved a standing ovation and we regret we didn't initiate it. Thanks for a great night!
Jeanne Rivenbark
Always a great experience when attending a performance at the Walnut Street Theatre. All volunteers/employees are polite and friendly, from scanning tickets, and helping you find your seats, to helping you purchase from the gift stand and snack bars.
Adam Wan
Very nice theater. Maintained well. Lots of stairs so be aware. Saw Matilda there. Highly recommended. Very funny. Staff excellent. Bathrooms kind of small but clean.
Chris Hoffmann
America's Oldest Theatre! I have been attending shows here for over 20 years and the talent, from actors/singers to sets to orchestra to choreography is always incredible. Seemingly overshadowed by big sister city NYC, one should never count out the talent Philadelphia has to offer, and it is regularly on display here at the Walnut. In terms of navigation, there are lots of one way streets so plan before you go, but artistically, this is a gem in Philadelphia musical theater . As of this post, go see Shrek the musical, playing through January 5, 2020. So much energy and such talent. You must have a sense of humor and a knowledge of pop culture and, ahem, potty humor (farts have a dedicated song!). Sets were amazing and, of course, the story is perfect. Help keep the Arts alive, take any kid you know to see this particular show and get them hooked on the joy of musical theater!
Jay Newlin
This is the nation's oldest (like so many things in Philadelphia) theater. We've had season subscriptions for many years because we love their productions. If it's at the Walnut, you'll enjoy the show!
Janine Cappello
Recently attended 'Kate', a one-woman show about Katherine Hepburn. Absolutely fascinating and held in their black box theatre - very intimate and profound at times. Highly recommend!
Robert Curry
Always an enjoyable evening! Great productions also!
王嘉佳
The quality of the shows is good in general, however, they are not the most popular ones of the time or season. I probably won't subscribe next season. Nice dining choices around the theater.
Don Walsh
Classic 'old school' theater, great show, however absolutely no 'leg room' at all in the upper regions...needs seat repositioning as part of upcoming expansion to be more senior and handicapped 'friendly.'
C Petit
An absolutely wonderful theatre in Center City. The seats are extremely comfortable and the show fantastic. On site bar and snacks was a nice touch. A very intimate setting for top notch shows.
Susan
Nice, smaller theater. Tkt prices very reasonable for Center City. Excellent play (In Between.) My only quibble is the seats are VERY uncomfortable for anyone who doesn't have a really strong back. Mine was killing me by the time the show was over.
I have been here twice and every single person who works there- down to the last one- has been rude and unfriendly. You're afraid to move b/c someone will yell at you. Doesn't make me want to go back. Someone needs to give the staff a lesson in how to treat customers.
jeffm9770
Sight lines are very good along with acoustics. Seats are a little tight but not terrible.
Michael Wacey
We have subscribed since 1992. Live theatre is great and the Walnut always does a good job. I do not like every play but the ones I don't like gove me perspective for the ones I do. A subscription gets us out at least five times a year. It is the best entertainment value around.
Nathan Baker
Views are good throughout the theater and the seats were comfortable. Staff was very friendly, especially in the box office. Wonderful place to take the kids and see a show.
Al Tucker
Went to see the Curious Incident of the Dog in the night-time. Absolutely mind bending production of this popular novel. Every aspect was perfect! Highly recommend this production in this historic venue!
T Co
My son and I went to the show on July 5th. It was fantastic! The new Candy, "Chali" was dynamic. Her voice was absolutely incredible. What an amazing performance. I plan to see the closing night show.
Melissa Hostrander
Great place to see a show. Every seat is a good seat overall if money is a limitation. Saw Annie last year and was able to get a picture with "Annie" after the show luckily.
Gregory Zielinski
Besides the history that this theatre possesses,(it is, after all, America's oldest)the entertainment it provides rivals that of some of its New York counterparts. With many Tony award-winning productions presented each season there's plenty of plays and musicals to suit nearly anyone's tastes.
eric pey
I've been going here for years and love it, I highly recommend the plays here. I'm happy to be a member.
Kerry Duckworth
Young Frankenstein was terrific! I would highly recommend seeing this show.
Sharon Krause
Stage production "A Comedy of Tenors" was an excellent show; never stopped laughing. Fast moving show. Seats don't leave much space for legs/feet if you are taller than 5 foot however.
FRANK CUMELLO
Excellent production of the play A Woman of No Importance. Saw Rocky last night for $20 00
Marlo Barry
Had an excellent time seeing Mama Mia on Thursday June 7, 2018. Only thing was, I'm from the Pittsburgh area and I wanted to buy a mama Mia shirt, which you had hanging in your lobby as for sale for $10, but the attendant said there weren't any there and that I'd have to order it and pay $15 instead of the $10 price. I felt that was a little disappointing and misleading. Other than that it was great!
Louis Cai
Wonderful performance and extremely talented cast. The seating can be a bit tight for tall people
John Kent
Good production quality. Nice bar and dessert area downstairs. Most of the seats provide good view and sound, but ones on outside front aren't that great.
Beth K
Always a wonderful experience! Warm and cozy, with great first rate productions. Young Frankenstein was hilarious! Talented group of actors.
Ashley Roche
Very clean venue but disappointed the actors didn't come out for photos
Steve Steiner
Terrific venue, great production (Shrek) although the script licensed by the rights holders is not up to either the Broadway or Touring version. WST did a terrific job of producing what they were given.
James Simmons
We saw shrek the musical. It was awesome. We were able to get half price tickets. On the day of the shows all tickets are reduced, only at the box office.
Karen McGill
The show was wonderful, the three stars is because there is NO leg room in those seats! Men beware if you are over 5'11.
Ken McIntosh
I've been attending shows At the walnut for 20 years now. One the funniest shows I ever saw this their current show Noises Off.
They are always putting on great shows. Probably the reason why this theater has been around for so long.
Celeste M
Small venue so everything seat is good. Just saw Shrek and it was very good. But the lady behind the gift shop is very rude and pretentious; Her co-workers were not.
Jennifer Herrera
Subscribed to their independent theater and so far only seen one show, Steve Martin's Meteor Shower; and I am in love!! Can't wait for the rest of the line up.
Nicole D
Love the show, my husband and always have a great time ..
Patrick Wenzler
Great show, helpful staff, clean and pleasant venue. Would have given 5 stars but seating is very cramped, aisles and stairs get very crowded during intermission.
Laure Seraphin
I enjoyed the play "The Humans". They have a very friendly staff and comfortable seating. The best is that there is a parking lot right next to them, making them very accessible if you are driving. NB: it's not their parking lot, so you have to pay.
b krmer
Did a walk by on the way to the dream garden don't miss that
Melissa Nevin
Love Walnut Street Theater! Love the shows and they are always top notch! My child has been a camper at their summer program, Camp Walnut and this summer will year 8.
Michelle Washington
Beautiful, warm and friendly atmosphere.
Jeffrey Smith
Had a great time with all of our friends. Great show
Carl Pfefferle
Great show! Very funny! Beautiful venue!
Lisa Rein
Went with class trip. Definitely got us in the Christmas/Holiday spirit. Actors were great, theater personnel were very helpful and the theater was very comfortable.
Phil Kazanjian
Have been going there for years to watch shows. They just seem to be getting better. This one definitely did not disappoint. Excellent performance all the way around.
ksxksf 1
Love this little slice of Philly history. They always put on a great production, and there's not a bad seat in the house.
jbsmoky Person
The oldest theater in the US. A lot of history. Great entertainment. Not a bad seat in the house. We have been subscribers for at lesst 20 years.
Mark Robinson
My wife and I saw it last night. 11/10!! Broadway quality in Philadelphia!!! Best performance at Walnut hands down in the 4 years I have held season tickets!!! Don’t miss this one folks!!!
Kathy Ericson
Oldest continually operating theatre in America. They specialize in modifications, drama and comedy. The acting is great and the variety of shows makes being a member a treasure.
T AA
Awesome theatre. The oldest theatre in America. Many high celebrities from the past performed here. Enjoyed the show that was played here. Definitelt would come again.
J r P
Great theatre. My family has been subscribers for years.
Chanel H Rhoden
I took a fun musical theater dance class, I'm hoping to take more classes in three future. I've never seen any of the shows, but have heard great things!
Rick Williams
Have been a patron for over ten years now. What a great way to see Broadway quality shows at a fraction of the price, hype and hassle. Not a bad seat in the theater.
Linda Gagliardi
Love this theatre. Have been a subscriber for years. Saw Young Frankenstein tonight. Never laughed harder or longer. Great job.
Yalsa Research
Saw How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at this theater. It was a fun musical and the actors were phenomenal. However, I am giving the Walnut three stars because their plays (at least the main stage ones) are overpriced and unoriginal. Who would want to watch the play version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for example when they could an incredible original or reinvented play at the Arden theater for 1/5 of the price?
Sue Turner
Austin Nedrow was phenomenal! Supporting cast was excellent per usual. I really enjoyed the show...the Curious Incident of the Dog in the night time.
areex81-g
Very nice small theater with 1st class shows and actors. Seating could be difficult for larger than average people. Worth the price of the ticket.
Fred Waldron
Great show, much better than I had expected!
B Bailey
Saw Beehive!! The song choices were excellent. Very very enjoyable. Sat up stairs excellent view.
Johnny Zee
I loved the Show ,and im going to see it a 2nd time-The Actor who made this show was Ms.Charis Leos fantastic- A Philly guy Cody Knable terrific & Billy D.Hart he's a true regular & can do it all Johnny Zee/Bucks County Pa.
Emanuel Klenner
It's the oldest theater in the country and the seats are tight for a guy of my height
(6'3") but the place has a lot of charme and the play - A Comedy of Tenors - was phantastic.
Nancy Hill
Oldest theater in our nation. Supreme venue !!! Superbly clean, rest rooms excellent. Helpful staff. ANY ANY SEAT has PERFECT view of stage. REALLY.
Christian Warren
Great overall but need a better intermission setup. Feels a bit rushed because of limited staff / old school checkout.
Larry Stolle
America's oldest operating theater. Once owned by the family of Edwin and John Wilkes Booth. The shows beautiful, the talent amazing. A must experience.
michael milcarsky
Great show,, we saw Shrek, the musical, costumes were amazing and so was the set. Very well done. Long play. Lot of actors
Bonnie Marano
Great theater with quality performances and lots of history! Not really a bad seat in the house. Check out their classes too!
Joseph DeLullo
I've been a subscriber for 15 seasons. Oldest theatre in the country, and the best one too! Top notch productions and actors. A must see!
jimmie foster
Very nice theater, seats were too small for a big guy like me. Saw great show though, Mamma Mia.
Louise Napoli
Always an amazing show, always friendly and helpful staff.
Robert Crews
The theater was excellent the actor's were wonderful but the seats for room wise were awful and very tight...I recomend the balcony seats row H seat numbers 205 and that area towards the wall..
Nancy Dolan
First, the actors are the best. The sets rival Broadway and some are better than NYC. Finally, the management makes WST run like a well-oiled machine. This is our 14th season.
Dan Rosen
Great old theater. If your tall the seats are a little tight but as long as your there for a great show it's not enough to really matter.
Rebecca Irwin-Diehl
Historic regional theatre with high-quality, equity-actor performances on the Main Stage and more intimate productions in their Independence studio. Also a children's series.
Michael Brown
Great experience on several occasions.
Rosemarie Morochko
The first performing arts theater in the country, Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theater lives up to its esteemed reputation. "Mama Mia," the Musical lives up to the reknown - the music, casting, staging, choreography, lighting, all an evening of pure delight.
H Bolopue
Legally Blonde blew me away! Tremendous acting, superb voices. And dog actors all the cuter for being rescues.
Nana Goldberg
Young Frankenstein was a good production. The talented cast had wonderful voices and the dancing was great. You will laugh!
Umm Layla Mujjahid
We saw the play Miltda, The theater is very clean, The staff are very friendly.....The bathrooms are very clean....The food & drinks are very high. I loved the play, & I will B bck again, There is parking right next store from the theater.....
Mick W.
Excellent show. Excellent cast. Never was here before and didn't realize how small it was. But great show! Would definitely come again.
ma duce
Saw "A Comedy of Tenors." It was quite entertaining; we all really enjoyed it! Parking easy, convenient and reasonable rates right next to the WST. A lovely time was had by all!
Arlen Solomon
So I'll sure lock Holmes and the respectable band. The show was excellent
Donna
I enjoyed the Sunday matinee and would recommend coming here for plays. My brother was in it, but it was very enjoyable! Looking for something to do Sunday afternoon, try it!!
Alex Brudner
Walnut Street Theatre always puts on a great show, with fantastic actors. I've seen several shows here, and am currently a subscriber. Ticket price is reasonable, too.
Ben Bond
My wife and I have been season ticket holders for 3 years - totally worth it for the cost. It’s a great venue, friendly staff, talented actors, and a good variety in shows.
Erine Taguchi
I watched MAMMA MIA!! Great!
Seats are no problem. But if your front seat were occuied by big guy, your view would be cutted a little, and makes you a little uncomfortable.
Enjoy your time here!
Venus Nunez
The show was amazing and the atmosphere was magical , I'm going back soon 💋💜🎼 …
Julie Carosella
We had a GREAT experience. I felt the precautions were appropriate and the staff was super sweet and friendly
James Johnson
Good ambience, good sound, seats were a little small.
Dana Cole
Great place to see a show! Nice clean beautiful theater.
Margaret Rychart
Each show is visually stimulating and each experience there you take something home to remember.
Robert Braun
The performance of Matilda was brilliant! The theater itself has comfortable seating, and excellent acoustics and sight lines. Who needs Manhattan!
Paul Timuscuk
The Walnut is always a great place to see plays. Their subscription plan gives us 5 plays a year at a reasonable cost. Looking forward to Momma Mia in the late spring.
Susan Samuels
Never disappointed with any shows we have seen there. Young Frankenstein was one of the funniest with some of the best music!
Monica Fortune
Enjoy their shows
Kathy Mangiola
Love going to the Walnut Street Theater. It has been a tradition in my family for many years now. Some productions are better than others but it's always a good time.
kevin kessler
Amazing staff and facility...great spot to see a show
Ray Forte
My daughter does theater classes at the Walnut and the staff is wonderful. We've seen shows there on the main stage as well, and the production values are excellent.
C. H. Cohen
Read reviews prior to going.
The shows are well chosen, but hit or miss with production.
The theater is always clean, the staff is always nice, but the production is haphazard at times.
Anne Maguire
Just historical awesome shows Matilda was outstanding! Seen Annie Cats and Do black pattern leather shoes reflect up and Cats
Mary Marquart
Love the musicals and the old time atmosphere. Seating is very tight though
Rich Sybesma
Oldest theater in the country. Who would not like this place. Go there 4 times a year because of the plays but are always served by the place even if the plays don't do it for me at times...the theater is great.
Bob Fink
Fantastic theater. The shows are the very best. Grear talent. Just a great time. I highly recommend!!!

Kendra Stillwell
Beautiful and historic theatre. Love seeing performances here!!!
Lauren Scheller
We always have a great experience when we go to a show here. Parking next store is so convenient. Also in walking distance to El Vez for a great meal before the show!
ejjackson320
The tickets for shows are inexpensive and the shows are great. Love the gift shop outside of the theater. They have great jewelry..
P Williams
The show was awesome! Downside: extremely small seats. If you're tall you definitely will be uncomfortable.
Eileen F
Always enjoyable...musicals are filled with talented singers and dancers...plays are thought provoking and actors are convincing. The love for their profession comes forth

I've seen many shows at the Walnut (Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver, The King and I, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, The 39 Steps, etc) and they have never faltered on their incredible performances. It's easy to tell why they've lasted for so long!
deborah delp

I was there last night for Matilda and hats off to the cast and the star. Exceptional production, but please turn the heat on. It was uncomfortably cold, at least where I sat.

From Shrek to Holiday Inn to Hairspray to Les Miserables, America's oldest theater is a great place to watch an even greater assortment of shows!
Trix Middlekauff
They let you have sippy cups of wine. So. What more do you need to know? Also, seating was comfortable and employees were polite.
Lee Whiteside
Show was good. Parked in lot next to theater...horrible, horrible, horrible...overpriced, mismanaged, almost bad enough to not want to return to theater. The fact that this lot has the name of the theatre on the wall adjoining, is sad.
Kathy Martin-Kaplan

This place actually has, I believe, 3 separate stages. I attended a play at the main stage and found it to be very nice. I know I saw an experimental theater stage listed and I think one other as well.

A small theater with friendly and helpful staff. The crowd is often an old one, with students scattered in between due to the large number of colleges in the area.
