Reviews of The Southern Theater
Suzanne Durkacs
The Southern is an awesome proscenium stage venue! There’s not a bad seat in the house! I recently saw Kaleena Miller Dance here and the tap dancers were amazing! Parking in 7 Corners is easy if you are willing to pay at the Holiday Inn close by. The Town Hall Tavern next door is a tasty spot to have a beer and dinner before or after the show. Plus their marquee is a treat!
Santhi Muniandy-Deisch
We went to see Cumar a Celtics African fusion music and dance performance. Love the intimate setting of the theater and wonderful acoustics.
Connor Anderson
Such a great theater! I was here to film a show recently and had a great time.
Jeremy Baker
Had a great time with my son experiencing Taiko drumming for the first time. The theater is old full of character, which we both thought was cool (some might see it as run down). The seats were comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Simple and quaint.
Matt Umolac
Cumar was amazing!! The theater was good!
Greg Mellang
Great venue. What a wonderful stage, great sound
Scott Burchill
I love this space! The staff are really nice and they present incredible art.
Just your Average Nico
Awesome venue! I love the shabby chic archway over the stage. It’s a tremendous resource for the community and entertainment is an incredible value for the price.
Andy Kokes
My daughter has had a few dance shows here now. It's a really great venue for. Small to medium show. Comfortable seats (I'm 6'2", I always notice the seats.) Good visibility to the stage. Great sound and good lighting too. I've told the owner of the studio it's my favorite place to see my kids dance.
Kyle Babcock
This is a neat place in general. Went here for a performance by the St Paul school of Performing Arts. The venue itself is still being renovated to some degree, but it was a very comfortable and intimate setting to watch the performance in general. The industrial feel of the venue was absolutely appreciated and parking was easy enough in the ramp around the corner.
Christine Cartwright
Have been twice now for school dance performances. The venue is small but so beautiful. There is brickwork everywhere that makes the lighting really cool.
Priestess Pheonyx
I love historic buildings This place has a lot of charm The layout was unique It is small and simple creating a more intimate experience with both performers and fellow visitors The energy was great the night I went. I'd be happy to go back for another show.
Michelle Lindau
Beautiful Venue with a great light plot and unique acoustics. Good mix of local artists, and it is a historic building. Parking is rough, but you can part at the courtyard Marriott for a hefty fee/street parking meters. Iconic stone arch stage.
Kathy Gaalaas
Beautiful history, architecture and lighting. Perfect space for a dance performance!
Michael O'Leary
This is a historic, intimate venue with loads of character. Seeing a play or artistic performance here is always a joy. The seats are not the most comfortable, but the authenticity of the atmosphere more than compensates for that minor flaw. I highly recommend the weekly variety show that happens at Midnight every Saturday, Balls Cabaret. Minneapolis is lucky to have this gem of a theater.
Nicole Yarrington
Lovely theater, but more than that, incredible people to deal with!! They were so accommodating for my wheelchair and all of my needs.
I will certainly go back!!
Caroline GS
Absolutely stunning theater! Great place to perform and be an audience member.
Eugene Fisher
Cool place to watch theatre…I wish I would’ve known about it sooner!
Jami Gaither
Absolutely loved experiencing Ball's Cabaret at this beautiful venue. It was an unusual show time (Friday at 7:30) as they were celebrating at 25th anniversary here. But if you're ever in Minneapolis on a Saturday at midnight I highly recommend you attend Ball's Cabaret. Leslie Ball is an amazing person full of love and light. And the performers (of all stages and types of talent) will astound and amaze you.
Albert Munn
Not your traditional theater, raw and very organic. Perfect for actors and audience.
Brian Costello
I went to the Southern Theater for a fringe festival show and had a good time. The auditorium is medium size. The seats are comfy and there is good legroom. The lobby and the rest of the facilities are in good shape.
Anthony Hoffman
Beautiful little space, we saw a local music event and it was fantastic
Jacob Edholm
One of the best venues for dance in the Twin Cities. Something about the classic proscenium brings so much character to the show. The parking lot behind The Corner Bar is just $4 all night after 4PM.
Trin Carl
Fun place for horror fest. Its quaint, atmospheric and gots big name actors all over.or should I say "up and coming."
Either way,I've spent many of a night here sitting in the front audience or looking up into the rising seats behind me and thinking to myself "I must be pretty cool if I've made it here."
Diedre Austin
Ancestral Origins: An Agriculturists Exploration of Joy and Beauty - was amazing!!! A long sit, but dancing and singing at the end. I cried, laughed and was on the edge of my seat with delight♥️
