Here's the deal with Open Eye: I love it. My kids love it. Everyone loves it. Charmingly weird, fantastically creative, community focused... all of it great. They do a big variety of performances in the space so be mindful of the intended audience (not all stuff is great for kids). We mostly do the kid centric stuff and for real things like Milly and Tillie are just legendary productions in our house. You know how often we say bah nya nah? Every time. Every. Time.
In the summer Open Eye hosts shows on Driveway Tour. Perfectly summer and fun and highly recommended.

Beautiful summer evening, we walked to the Bakken and enjoyed a fun night outside. Fun production I am hoping there will be more of these productions I will be there. Very fun

Great experience the the second play really brought up some old feelings and the first was pretty powerful loved it

I want to experience"The Longest Night, A Solstice Cabaret"; written by Bradley Greenwald and Harvey Schmidt, and performed by Bradley Greenwald with Sonia Thompson on piano. I can't really speak knowledgeably about the performance, but I will say that it was wonderful, powerful and a great way to spend about an hour.
I love the size of the theater, a big enough house to provide room for a responsive audience and it's small enough to give it a good intimate feel.

Great small venue for plays. Very comfortable seating, and the row levels are the perfect hight/spacing that the people in front of you do not block the stage view.

This theatre is something everyone should experience. Hopefully more than once. A group of artists/actors who put together original productions typically suitable for children but with some adult themes woven into the stories. The acting is sometimes done by puppets. The venue is small and intimate. Book ahead if you can. Parking can be an issue so get there a little early if you can. There is typically parking available beside the freeway sound wall around the corner from the theatre.

An imaginative, enjoyable, ear-to-ear grinning experience. My face hurts from smiling so much after their Holiday Pageant 2019. Go see a show, ANY show. You will not regret it. Typically a mature show that adults AND children can enjoy. Been going with my mom since I was a young teenager and I've never seen an uninteresting show!

The Open Eye Figure Theater is a theater that should be visited by everyone who enjoys performance. I have been multiple times and I can't get enough. Puppetry is an incredible art form & the Open Eye masters it. The space is very comfortable and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The staff & volunteers are very nice as well. If you're looking for masterful performance and highly original work, the Open Eye needs to be at the top of your list. I highly recommend this theater!

I was able to see the Open Eye Puppet Show on June 17th at 5301 37th Ave So, in the middle of the blocked off street (one puppateer lives near that address). I'd guess at least 150 people or more, about 60% under 9 years old, watched it, and the audiance was really engaged in the production. They also had free popcorn, cookies, lemonade and suckers before it started and popsicles, icecream sandwiches and watermelon afterwards. They do ask for donations so we put a few $'s in the bucket, but it was well worth it. I think they said it's the 4th year they've done the show on 37th and it was a great evening. I'll try to get to the theater now.

Beautiful intimate setting. Fantastic production: from the atmosphere when you walk in, adorable coat rack, incredibly designed sets and costumes, and fantastic acting. Thank you for a great show and lots of laughs, will definitely be back!
Definitely Breakable
The first time I went here was for an anniversary showing of "A Prelude to Faust", and I was blown away by the mix a puppetry and live (human) performance art! The old brick venue is charming and intimate. Made a return visit recently to see another creative performance that incorporated shadow puppetry with live performance. Even though there aren't many dining options in the immediate area, they usually have beer/wine and snacks available pre- and post-show and 'eat street' is a short drive away. If you're a fan of the performing arts, watch the calendar; you will likely find something that appeals to you eventually. Open Eye is worth supporting!

This is the most delightful theatre in the twin cities. They invest in real art and artists in ways that no one else does. The unique experience of the small space and the high production values is a must see.

This was an amazing performance, I had no idea marionettes could do so much. The staging and technical experience was impressive and professional. For a small venue like this one wouldn't necessarily expect such a professional performance but they pulled it off with flair. We'll be going back.

Fantastic experimental Theater. The space is down to earth, yet undeniably elegant.
Vey comfortable seating. Fascinating array of artistic experiences. Offering constantly evolving insight into the process of expression. Susan Haas and her playwrite husband Michael have created a precious and unique environment for the developing of Theatre Art as well as a comfortable space to experience the journey.
Doug Junker
Fun neighborhood theater. We saw a puppet show that a friend was in. Evey seat is a good seat!

A fun, inclusive theatre company. We saw The Pink Unicorn and enjoyed the show very much. The stage and seating are very intimate, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Refreshments and light snacks are available for purchase as well.

Michael and Susan have added a gem to the twin city's great theatre scene. Open Eye's yearly August standard, a work by Kevin Kling are always funny, warm and witty. The puppet/live actor combination shows are what Open eye does so very well. They have saved a historic building, its a space that is beautiful and intimate, my money is always well spent there... thanks guys. Coffeejon

Every time I come here I have an unbelievable, once in a lifetime experience that never fails to blow my expectations away and move me emotionally in ways traditional theater rarely does. Aptly named open eye theater is a hidden gem.

It is a friendly quaint setting away from the hustle & bustle of the immediate downtown area. It is the perfect place to be when you want to enjoy an intimate theater setting.

This is an awesome gem of the Minneapolis theater and puppet scene. A small venue with an intimate setting. OET Supports both veteran artists as well as up and coming artists, playwriters, puppeteers with traditional and experimental productions. One of the anchors of the southside arts scene.
