Reviews of Los Angeles Theatre
It is a gorgeous and intimate venue. Classically beautiful with pillars and chandeliers and art on the ceiling. Would definitely recommend. Only complaint I would say is that they have a weird numbering system for the layout of the venue). Entry was pretty quick and it's generally clean.
A grand and stately venue. Gorgeous lobby with absolutely stunning staircase. I love the details of design through the theater. The bathrooms are crazy fancy even! Such a fun place to see a movie or attend an event.
Too many seats at the main theatre. Needs to be way less. Who wants to watch a concert and sit down? 85% seats 15 Standing.. AC is horrible in the bottom floors. It gets very humid the lower you go. The venue is beautiful! Bar should be moved to not be next to the entrance. It causes constant clashing and confusion. Staff was professional. Everyone was having a good time! Beautiful bathrooms! Good venue!
I’ve always wanted to go to this theater BTS from the music video for black swan in here and the video looks amazing I know Jimin from BTS took ballet when he was in the high school if you’re a BTS army you should definitely think of the music video if you watch it it’s very amazing and so is this song
The Los Angeles Conservancy held a screening of one of my all time favorite films ("The Women") yesterday and the experience was brought to a whole new level because it was held in the magnificent Los Angeles Theater in Downtown LA. Over the years I've seen the inside of several of these love palaces, but I don't believe any of them compare to this one. The carvings inside the theater are incredible. The chandeliers are gorgeous. There's a fountain where instead of flowing water there are flowing crystals....superb. If you have the opportunity to see this space in person, don't hesitate - you won't regret it!
The Los Angeles Theatre, completed January 1931 is a gem of 1920s. The theater is used for various functions from time to time. The LA Conservancy does walking tours that guide you through.
The details of the building are incredible and a stunning sight, particularly the entry and the theater itself.
There are some details that you might miss, namely the different marbles in each of the Ladies stalls. The Gents room is large but not as ornate as the Ladies.
Definitely worth a visit if you are lucky enough to get a reason to go!
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful theater. I got to go here for a Halloween showing of 'Labyrinth' / Masquerade Ball with my best friend. Would DEFINITELY go back.
We watched 55 individual vocalists from across the US perform in front of the judges for Season 21 of American Idol, airing February 19th on ABC. The Los Angeles Hotel
Fantastic old venue in the heart of DTLA. We were filming a TV show, around the building and used the theatre as base camp.
It is huge, old and beautiful for the most part, but pretty run down now. It's mainly used for events and filming now, but must have been a true gem in it's original glory.
This place is such an amazing place.
A history and look at the way Los Angeles was at it's prime.
I suggest everyone that loves to see some amazing history of what made this great city this is a place for you.
My favorite of the Broadway movie palaces! A must-see! It's only open for select events. Try the LA Conservancy's annual Last Remaining Seats showings, or Night on Broadway in January. Don't forget to check out the ballroom downstairs, and the amazing Ladies' Room. Be aware, it's not friendly to anyone who has trouble with stairs, and the main floor seats have limited legroom.
Lovely theatre, but horrible ushers with no idea how their seating works. There was so much confusion regarding the balcony sections, everyone was lost and the ushers didn’t help matters as they were clueless as well. I had to open up a seating chart to assist them at one point. Band was great so the night wasn’t ruined.
Awesome unrestored movie palace from the golden age of movie going. Her glory may be somewhat worn and faded but her 1931 beauty still shows through. My eyes couldn't get enough!
What can you say about a landmark in your city? It's one of the most beautiful theaters and the country and it is well worth a visit. Whether you're visiting from another part of the country of world or if you live in the Southland this is a must-see. Its architecture is beyond compare and I hope you get a chance to experience it for yourself.
Authentic interior sends you back in time. The original design and fixtures, large powder room downstairs and huge theater flanked with two sculptures in melodrama.
Classic theater located at the heart of Broadway. They don't have many plays no more. If you get a chance, go catch a play!
I haven’t been inside. The stars are for the terrazzo sidewalks outside. They’re really beautiful
The biggest, best well preserve and the most beautiful theatre from all the old Broadway theatres. Built in the 20s.
This us the most comfortable of the old Broadway movie palaces. We come here every year can see one of the last remaining seats series. I'm always amazed by the lobby, the three-dimensional curtain, and the remaining decorative elements in the theater itself. Do check it out when you can.
Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation had photos and information on this theatre for public to see
Shot Substance and it was great. Gary Numan killed it
I went here to see “The Birds” from Alfred Hitchcock (great movie and director) presented by the Last Remaining Seats and the theatre is extremely beautiful! So much attention to detail and reminded me of when I visited the Palace of Versailles! The main auditorium could use a little TLC, but it was still stunning to see. There’s also no AC so it can get a little hot but I pretty much always have that expectation in mind when entering buildings that are this old (built in 1931). An amazing place to host an event! They just don’t build them like this anymore!
I visited this beautiful theater in the summer of 1963 to watch The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm and The Cattle King as a double feature. It was mid afternoon when the smog was dense and the heat was sweltering on the street, I sat in the air conditioned balcony with my mother. I can still remember the opulence and the pure wonder I had at seeing such an elegant place. That was 55 years ago. I am pleased that it is being preserved.
If you love old theaters put this one on your list and learn its history. Tour the upstairs and downstairs gathering areas especially with a lot of people milling about and imagine how popular it was in 1931 when movies were king. If you see a period movie there, the sound is best on the loge level, one up from orchestra.
Historic theater is amazing. Must see.
This place is absolutely beautiful. The fixtures and decor are stunning. It makes me sad this gem is in DTLA with terrible parking and a lot of homeless people and weirdos. I wish all of Downtown was still like the LA when this amazing theater was built.
How can you improve on such classical beauty? You can come close by visiting the Ace Hotel down the street and step into the old United Artist's theater. These two facilities will leave you captivated by their rich history and incredible architecture.
Went for a Cinespia event and was amazed by the venue. Simply beautiful! No one in my group was expecting what we saw. We were shocked when we went downstairs and so how many people were there dancing. It's much bigger than any of us have it credit for.
Was at the showing of Who Framed Roger Rabbit last year. I already knew it was gorgeous inside but when I saw it for real I was knocked out. A little bit worn but nothing a little work wouldn't fix. So glad it's still a movie palace and I can't wait to go back. This is a beautiful treasure hidden amid the ugly squalor of Downtown L.A.
My daughter and I went to an LA Conservancy showing of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and it was a great experience! The theater is amazing! Kudos to everyone who works to make these showings happen, and thanks to the LA Conservancy in general for all their work. Just wish I'd had some cash for refreshments!
Beautiful impressive theatre. Historical and well kept.
Could have been converted to a church or swap meet when you walk by, but it turns out this is a historic theater with some evidence of it being run down despite it's attempt to rehabilitate. This place had to have been gorgeous in it's prime. It was great place to host great acoustics. Didn't disappoint for the experience. Sadly, no bacon wrapped hot dog vendors where to be found. If you need to park. Try and grab a meter at 6 or pay at the lot.
This is the most beautiful building in Los Angeles. I got to experience it during the weekend of Summit. It has left a lasting impression on me. Being in the building made me feel like I had been transported to another world. I can't wait to go back!
Gary Numan was incredible! The only, and THE BEST reason to come out to the LA theatre, or any theatre anywhere, for that matter. He rocked the house and left me with an experience I will NEVER forget. The LA theatre was a suitable place for the Lion himself (Gary Numan) and his pride of immaculate and precise musicians to storm that stage with more power and fury than I've ever seen anyone execute a piece of art like that before!
Been here several times and the sculpture reliefs inside the theatre are pure works of art. Vibes.
Beautiful old theater. I am so glad that it has been restored and is being maintained as the historical theater that it is. I hope that it stays that way. I loved going there. It is worth seeing, and going to an event there.
WOW!! The architecture is amazing!!! If you get a chance to go in this building, do it.... and look up! :) (also has really good acoustics).
The most beautiful and unique theater I have ever seen. Was able to tour it during an L.A. Conservancy historic theater tour. Is 100% worth it if you appreciate historic architecture and film history.
#BTS filmed Black Swan music video here
Absolutely gorgeous architecture! However, restrooms are a pain to get to if you're there for an event, parking is a pain in DTLA, VERY limited drink selection ( Heineken or an IPA)
Amazing Architectural, great place for events, this place will take you back in history.
Closed to the public. Beautiful inside
This is a beautifully restored movie house on Broadway Theater Row.
really good place to watch a show
Very beautiful theatre, I will be going back eventually. The intricate designs were absolutely stunning.
An absolutely amazing theatre from 1931when the grand opening was performed by Charlie Chaplin and Albert Einstein.....the details everywhere is like taking a walk to the past..... unbelievable!
The place is huge. Just an amazing theater. I do wish there was more art or movie related material. Can't wait to see a movie or show there sometime.
This is where BTS shoot their MV Black Swan.
Though I've never been here before, I would love to visit here someday in my life.
Incredible
First time time visited during Night on Broadway LA this past weekend. I was in awe of the beauty of this classic theater. I hope they open to the public more.
By far the most beautiful and opulent theatre on Broadway. I could describe it, but you wouldn't believe me. Think if Versailles were a movie theatre...
Beautifully restored historical building. Restored to its original charm. Amazing chandeliers and painted ceilings.
In Time was filmed here. Very historical and ornate worth the visit anytime of the year.
It is a nice architecture inside the theatre!!
BTS, global pop sensation from South Korea, filmed their official MV for Black Swan here. Amazing!
It's beautiful and should not be redone.
A great place for performing arts. Several stages. Awesome foyer. Love the spiral staircase.

Beautiful old theater. Could use some repair work, but still beautiful.

Went there to see Lucent Dossier experience it was an awesome show and an awesome theater.
It's one of the grand old movie palaces. They only open for special events. For me it's a must see in Los Angeles.
They've done a great job of arresting the decay. A/C, seats & sound could use an update.
beautiful opulent interiors take you back to a golden era of entertainment.
Small on the outside, HUGE on the inside. LA's grand dame of Broadway theaters. Go if you can.
