Reviews of Dynasty Typewriter
Tomas Cortijo
I have to say I enjoyed this place more than I imagined. This is an old school small theater that hosts a great crew of stand up comedians. The owners are a show on their own and the crowd is super friendly. At the concession stand you can buy candy or popcorn topped with gummies. They also have some beers and wine in a can. Great time and I would definitely recommend it.
Bella Fenn
We loved Dynasty Tonight at the Hayworth! The theater is super fun and cozy and the owners are great. All of the comedians had great sets and we can’t wait to go back. Easy check in and while we were waiting we took a walk and saw this beautiful park. Easy to find street parking. Cool guests even pop in from time to time and we got to see CRAIG ROBINSON! super cool!
Daisy Guerrero
Came here to watch Mark Ellis and I had so much fun!! What a great show. Anyways the venue was cute and very old school. They did have a concession stand with candy, popcorn and many drinks. They also had 3 restrooms (gender neutral) and the one upstairs is candle lit. Lol thought it was weird but I needed to go 😁😁 …
Colbert Fennelly
Love the vibe of the Dynasty Typewriter Theatre. Always an a-list night of comedy, often with random big comedic surprise appearances, Craig Robinson surprise drop in last time. Never disappointed. Upgraded to the VIP seating but every seat in the house is VIP. Best kept secret in the heart of Los Angeles. Stayed for the unexpected breakup exorcism after the show on August 20th. Super fun & truly enjoyable.

How can I even describe this absolute gem? First of all the shows take place in the historic Hayworth theater which is absolutely so beautiful. They have popcorn, snacks, beer (even cool merch) and and comfortable seats that slide back into a delicate recline. I’ve been to quite a few comedy shows in my day and this is one of the most intimate, welcoming that I have ever been to. They make you feel like you are one of the family. I don’t want to set the bar too high but at the show I attended….they actually bought the entire crowd pizza after the show! Tickets are way affordable and there is a parking structure only a few yards from the venue. Do yourself a favor and go here for some amazing comedy and a great experience.
Manuela Garcia Amaya
I love coming here on Tuesdays for Poetry Night! Thank you for the drinks and the popcorn and the all gender bathrooms! The seats are always clean and the stage is always so vibrant! Love this venue!
Rebecca Rodriguez
I recently saw Atsuko a few nights ago at the Hayworth - my first time going to this venue. Very cute and creative, love the vibe. They have an extensive drink menu, and they even carry Topo chico like what!?
Seats do this this little slide thing once you sit down so it makes them more comfortable. Parking is lot around the corner or street.
Would come back! Love it!
Abbigail Jones
This is hands down my favorite place to see comedy shows. I bring friends from out of town because I know it will always be a unique and hilarious experience with a thoughtfully curated lineup. The venue is great too, intimate and comfortable.
James Jordan
Had such a great time seeing a friend do a live podcast here.
The owners are adorable. I want them as my new best friends!
Make sure to get the popcorn, you can add up to two treats. I doubled down on gummies. They have hot cheetos if you are into that.
Beer & wine and canned cocktails - was that a Zima?
And the typewriters, cannot forget them!!!
Jeremy Lang
The show I went to see, Randy Feltface, was excellent but why are we standing outside not only long past "doors open" but even 10 plus minutes past when the show was originally supposed to start?!
Parking garage right nearby, was about $10. Much easier than expected.
MC Dancy
Had an amazing time watching Will You Accept This Rose. Every seat is a good seat
Janet Young Stanton
I am typing this at the request of Blu the Dynadog, he says the theater is the very best in the universe and his absolute favorite place to go 💜👏👏👏 …
Matthew Lim
An amazing venue that is up close personal and has amazing acts from a lot of fantastic queer performers. I love Chris Fleming!
Rick Fernandez
What a cool little theater. Went for a private party and would not hesitate to go visit again. Highly recommended!
Alberto Vigo
This was a real blast, really friendly an corteous staff and the event itself was so gooooood!!! You need to come and see for yourself. Now they are aerving alcohol so no reason not to take the chance!!! We went to see several stand-up comedians and all of them were on point great performances. Best of all, real cheap.
Robert Frederick
This venue is AMAZING!
Staff is extremely kind and welcoming, I love the snacks they sell - best craft sodas!
Venue is very clean and air conditioned. Much appreciate for the very clean gender neutral restrooms!
Jessica Morris
Great show, nice bathrooms and good beer
Kay-Leigh Butler
A great venue with welcoming staff. We went for a live podcast show & everyone that we talked to offered great service (security on the door, staff at refreshments, staff in the venue).
A great "classic" theatre .
Dustin Collins
This theater is lovely. They have some really cool shows regularly and always have interesting guests lined up. Soon they'll be able to serve liquor which is a huge plus. I'm looking forward to coming back for multiple shows.
Scott Pactor
Love coming here! Took a few years off because of COVID but I returned earlier this week and it was just as charming as I remembered. Make sure to load up on snacks to support the people who run the place. Parking is usually available to the east along the park since it's a no stop zone between 4 and 7 pm. Get there before showtime to secure decent seats in the theater. Great place for stand up comedy or whatever they have going. Draws a cool crowd.
Nolan Davis
This is such a great venue! The owners and staff are all really cool and sweet people. Super funny show last night and you could tell the owners who were hosting were so happy to be back. They ordered free pizza for the whole audience after the show ended! So sweet!!
Erin O'Brien
Super cool venue. I loved the fender neutral restrooms and cozy atmosphere
Michael Blom
Watched a live podcast there, Harmontown, and it was very nice. Even sitting quite far back we had a grwt view of the stage and it still felt intimate. They sell popcorn, soft drinks and coffee which is a nice touch.
Jesus Mota
Went to see a live podcast. The place has nice snacks and seating
Lizzyluvsu2
Loved it just valet only a 3 dollar difference from the parking structure nearby. The elevator did not work in the parking structure nearby. But overall the venue was nice and intimate. anywhere is pretty much a good seat. Pretty easy to find.
Jessica Young
First time at Dynasty, saw a live podcast with Cheryl Hines and Tim Notaro which was amazing.
kate smith
Fabulous intimate venue. Went to see Sunday Morning Stand Up (brilliant idea) with Maria Bamford headlining. The staff is exceedingly pleasant. Great location on Wilshire, garage parking right behind the theater.
Jim Nielsen
Great venue! Every seat is fantastic and the workers are awesome.
Shawn Nuzzo
Intimate theater for live performances. Very relaxing and fun vibe. Looking forward to seeing more shows there.
It's located adjacent to the super-sketchy MacArthur Park, so be sure to park in a well-lit place and hide valuables out of view from wandering junkies.
There's a 6-level parking garage around the corner that charges a $9 flat rate. It's probably your best option.
Maz Hender
I went here twice while visiting LA from Australia recently, and I can honestly say it's one of the best venues I've been to! A smooth ticketing process, friendly staff and awesome shows! I'll be back the next time I'm in LA, for sure.
Jack Hair
Great venue, super friendly staff and always have a wide range of shows to go and see. Also their popcorn is legit, best popcorn around.
Carson Lambing (carson)
What a warm, welcoming venue. This old theatre is a sight to be seen. Just the right amount of seats to feel like it's an intimate performance and like you aren't the only person in the room. Also, reclining seats were a pleasant surprise.
And if you're wondering, this venue does play host to today's seriously great comedy talents.
1limey1a
Neat, tidy locale. Cordial and helpful staff, entertaining program, and friendly celebrities! A++
Presh Villa
Last Improv. The best improv I've seen.
Zeen Absolute
I've yet to see a bad show here, they have a great little selection of beers, and the staff is a delight.
Juli Schneiderman
It was amazing! The shows and popcorn are great! I would definitely recomend going there! - Jamies nephew, Jordan 11 years old
Melissa Herrera
Very cool small theater! Listened to a live podcast :Deck the Hallmark. Would go back!
Krysta Weilwood
A wonderful evening at the Dynasty Typewriter! My first time; a super cool old theater with very comfortable seats, a stocked concession stand, super clean restrooms and very friendly staff. The comedy show was great! We'll definitely be back!
Daniel Fazio
An absolute gem of a venue with amazing programming. The absolute best spot in LA to see comedy, variety, and all other sorts of weird stuff.
Cirese LaBerge
Great staff friendly and bright.
Love the venue it is cozy and intimate enough to believe I am a part of the show.
Jonah Berg-Ganzarain
One of the best places for live entertainment in LA. Always a pleasure to come to a show here! Especially love the quality and variety of comedians they host
Mark Perloe
Intimate venue to catch your favorite performers up close. General admission seating. Get their early.
Jennifer Wren
Dynasty Typewriter is a place of pure joy where, literally, everyone I have ever brought experiences the best of comedy, hospitality, and creative expression in LA. The founders are gems, the music is phenomenal, and the comic talent is top notch. I hope they have many many years of great success and happiness ahead of them.
Lisa Culhane
Cute, old theater with leather seats that push back to recline a little. Big enough for an intimate, little audience with whom the comedian can connect easily. Liked the charm of the place. No drink holders in seats of course, and mostly only popcorn for sale, and I don't think they have an alcohol license. We'd just eaten dinner so we didn't want anything but water, but others might. Show conveniently on at 9pm. I would suggest catching transport here as the surrounding area is dark, with a large homeless encampment down the street at the edge of the park.
Rosa Zorrilla
Parking is difficult to find. The place itself is on the dark side and seating is ok. Not comfortable but ok. It has 3 restrooms and they were clean. The people were friendly and accomodating. I show itself was great. I would return.
Donald Clark
A little bit or if the way, this of in intimate space where you can feel connected to the performer way more than you can at a big stadium
Josh Hutchings
This is such a stellar venue! There are warm and professional staff. An excellent curation of talented artists and events. A fun atmosphere. Comfortable seats. Nice snacks. Make sure to bring your allergy pills though, if susceptible... it's been reported of minor reactions. Still awesome. Enjoy!!
Jerrod Tejeda
A very nice and cozy so called hole in the wall type venue. It gives you a very cozy old school feel. They sell concessions such as drinks, popcorn, etc but NO alcohol. This wasn't an issue for us having drank before our comedy show but it certainly would have been nice to have. Overall it was greatly enjoyable night for the wife and I. Certainly recommend.
Craft Ogle
Great space, great performances, nice canned beer options, clean bathrooms, what's not to love?
We saw Everything's Great, and it undersold iself, will definitely be back next month!
Daniel Clark
How did they get so huge so quickly?! Love the shows here and the environment is super unique and cool.
George Lawhorn
Awesome staff! Very intimate theater, so every seat is great. They get some amazing shows, so signing up for their emails is a good idea.
Skurvey
Nice ambience. Great faculty and friendly. Make you believe they want you there. They do require vaccine cards and masks currently.
Rachel McCracken
Enchantingly adorable venue! We we're lucky enough to get to see a wonderful line up of very funny people while we were in town. The theater itself is spacious and comfortable, and it's clear that the amazing folks who run the place care for it a whole lot. We cannot wait to come back to visit!
Kyle Winters
Great venue for the live comedy show we saw. Super nice staff, tasty popcorn and a super cool vibe. Makes me think of the great indie venues I used to visit in NorCal. I can't wait to go back!
Laurel Clark
This was a really cool venue. Go early if you want to be at the front of the line. Tickets still out fast and they have really great performers (such as Marc Maron!!!). All the people who work there were nice and worked very quickly. Definitely a place to keep your eyes on.
Elysia Skye
The best part about this theater is the amazing staff. They have made my husband and I feel very welcome and taken care of every time we visit. It's like we found our "Cheers" with the Dynasty family. The shows they have are awesome and we do our best to come every month. Support local theatre like these guys and gals. They deserve it.
Tom Guff
Love this theater! Old school movie theatre vibe with friendly staff and great popcorn. I had a random question and asked online and they got back to me right away.
Amanda Prior
Amazing small venue for oversized acts, thoughtful locally sourced drink options including non and alcoholic beverages
Nick Benish
Beautiful theater! Absolutely love the vibe. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Comfy seats too.
Robert Mason
Great venue...could use updated seats, but I'll gladly make a return trip.
Rosalina S.
Went to see the Tomorrow show and had a great time. Word of caution for plus size people, most of the seats are tiny! The seats in the back row are bigger though so my husband and I were able to enjoy the show.
Kristofer Bush
Staff was super amazing and the popcorn is mwah! Nice theater with great decor. No parking so take an uber. Saw "The Penalty" here which is a highly recommended documentary. Overall great experience. I'll be keeping an eye out for upcoming shows so I can revisit this hidden gem.
Bobby Rodriguez
WHAT AN AWESOME VENUE!! You'd BARELY see the marquee as you drive by this place, as most LA gems are holes in the wall. Nothing screams intimate hideout like a hole in the wall, right..? WELL HERE IT IS. Bring a date & don't worry about having a flask in your back pocket. I recommend their stand-up comedy nights.
Skateboard friendly😎
Jason McCracken
This is by far the best and most enchanting experience for our LA vacation. the staff made us feel extremely welcome. Jamie Flam's touch is everywhere and fills the place with magic and curiosity. Thank you so much for the great experience, great show, and perfect night.
Sheena Roque
Such an amazing show!!! The cast is extremely talented and hilarious!!! MUST SEE!!!!
JP
Cool place. Fun show.
They give out free money coffe and it is amazing!
Ryan Jordan
Great place for comedy, even though the seats can be uncomfortable, which is to be expected from the old theater seating. If anything, this adds to the overall charm and vibe. The popcorn can only be described as mouthwatering, tasty, flavorful, delectable, toothsome, piquant, scrumptious, scrummy, yummy, finger-licking good!
Aaron Rincon
Saw Out-take-Orama with some of the cast of Futurama, and it was hilarious! The venue is intimate and helped make the night feel special and cozy! I would definitely love to come back to this venue.
tod davis
comedians were great! hip decor nice people. multiple stage lights flashing like strobes at the audience for the entire headliner performance. not addressed until comedian riffed on it for 5 minutes at he end of his show. I get that tech problems happen but it ruined the show for me.
Mitchell Wapner
I was there for the Valentine's soiree and it was a blast. There were comedians, marrionettes, singers, dyngo and more.
Jennifer K
Intimate venue, great, friendly staff. Parking lot nearby. Excellent place to get back out into the world!
RM Troy Moore
Been there several times for Harmontown and the Valentine's Day Soiree. Fantastic people and it's always fun. Thanks for letting my wife and I rock out on our special dance!
Alethia Calagias
Such an awesome theater with the best popcorn. I will definitely return.
Tony McGinn
Teeny-tiny theatre in a not-so-great neighborhood. There's public parking around the corner. Only one bathroom, so go before you attend any performances here. Quaint and well-loved.
Krista Reyes
They gave me a free exorcism! 8/10 would go back again. Their 🍿 is also 💣 …
Natalie Grewe
I'm just here to confirm everyone else's glowing reviews.
I popped into LA for a dazzling music concert, then hit up the Dynasty Typewriter to see a couple of my favorite acts. Somehow, the Dynasty Typewriter bested the concert as being a truly inviting and magical experience.
To everyone working to make that theater what it is: Thank you!
Ernesto Gonzales
Quaint little venue. Great seats. Nice staff. No alcohol though. So if you go for funny and like to drink get that beforehand
M. Stephens
It was dynamite event, with great writers. I will be coming back next year. Thank you for this event.

Amazing, accommodating staff, and the perfect venue.
mickierat
Great place to see a show. Staff customer service is fantastic. They don’t (as of April 8 2019) serve alcohol but the concession stand attendant said that they are waiting for license approval.
Cory Stout
Great space, very quirky acts, tons of fun
Krista Abramson
The theater is awesome! It has the feel of a vintage theater, but with modern conveniences. I look forward to going back again soon.
Manfredo Aguilar
For what it is, a small theater for stage performances, it's a very cool spot. Has a classic feel to it. The seats are comfortable and you're never too far from the stage.
Dee Benjelloun
Cute intimate theater, but not many parking options. Only reason I knocked off a star is because we were seated in a back row of uncomfortable chairs. They added the chairs and were not actually a part of the theater seating. They later opened up another section and seated the additional guests there. We left early because the chairs were uncomfortable.
Kate Ryan

Erica
Amazing theatre and hilarious comedy!
JR C
Knowing that the venue was a mere block away from MacArthur Park, I knew that the Hayworth Theatre wouldn't be Pantages fancy. It was exactly as I believed with single occupancy restrooms (3), narrow low hallways, and scary exterior. Inside the actual theatre though, I was subtly impressed by the comfy seating, vaulted high ceilings, and HVAC system (stuffy and hot is a huge turn off for smaller productions such as these).
Eduardo Chang
Great comedy. Beautiful building. Friendly staff and superb popcorn.
Alice OC.Mermaid

Revival of the Hayworth offers a good consistent lineup of standup and performance art characters.
This theatre is very intimate and feeds into Los Angeles's live performance genre well. This venue is an excellent alternative to the already crowded scene in other ritzy joints.
