I have walked by this historic theatre a number of times while shopping or seeing movie nearby but it was always closed When we learned that The Nutcracker ballet was going to have shows here, we chose it to be able to see inside of venue and because the ballet was being presented by 25+ local ballet schools rather than large production company. The ballet did not disappoint. Some portions of the ballet were changed slightly but it maintained the integrity of this classic Christmas children's ballet. Something new for us was narration of the tale, which we think was nice touch. Fantastic production values, the costumes were creative and had fantastic details. We really enjoyed watching children on stage and in the audience. The venue itself is intimate - it made seeing this production little more magical because we could see everything from our Orchestra seats. Needless to say, there isn't bad seat in the house. The staff are friendly and patient. Bathrooms and all areas of venue were clean. During intermission I chose to investigate the balcony view and upper floor. There are number of tables and refreshment area serving water coffee and snacks. I am not sure if alcohol was not served because of the children's production or if no alcohol is served at any show. COVID protocols are constantly changing so check website before you attend. The date of my show, all staff wore masks but it was optional for patrons. We took out vaccination cards with us but they were not checked. Seating is not socially distanced and there were no markings waiting in line to get inside or at refreshments areas outside or inside. There are 3 parking lots for this venue ranging in cost $1 to $10, but they were full by time we arrived. We found street parking on Maryland. There is timed street parking on Brand and behind the venue but read the signs! You may have to walk short distance so leave for your show little early. I like the history and design of the venue, and look forward to seeing another show here again.

LOVE this place! Just attended the Three Stooges Annual Film Festival which happens on the Saturday after Thanksgiving yearly. It was so much fun!

Gorgeous theater built in the 1920s and beautifully renovated to look absolutely beautiful. They don't build theaters like this anymore like the old movie palaces from the golden age of Hollywood! Extremely well maintained.

There is not one bad seat in this building. The music and singing sounded amazing... perfect acoustics! I enjoyed the balcony seats the best. They serve Portos as well... that's a total plus!!

We went to this theater for a NBC taping of a Christmas special. It was our first time there. It is an older theater that probably have some really interesting history to it. We arrived early wait in lines on the outside. It was a little congested and confusing, but they did had adequate number of employees managing the lines. Once inside, we were guided to our seats in an orderly fashion. The seating was comfortable and we had a good view of the stage even though we were in the center near the back rows. The sound what's a decent. It is a small to average size theater with one level balcony. It is worth noting at the theater is located in a revitalized commercial district with several nice restaurants and lounges. We ate at a nice Argentinian restaurant across the street. As a side note, you do get a discount on the public parking for attending the theater.

Saw Raffi here and it was incredible. I'm a #belugagrad and saw Raffi when I was young so being able to bring my young daughter to see him was a dream come true. We both had an absolute blast. The theater itself is very nice inside and out. Sat in the balcony but still had a great view. All the staff was very friendly and engaging with the little ones. All around great experience.

The Alex Theatre in nearby Glendale is a well-known landmark in Los Angeles County and it’s been in operation since the mid-1920s. This beautifully constructed performance arts venue was once known for its film premiers but today it’s known for its world-class live performances. Throughout the year, over 250 live shows are showcased at the theatre including theatrical performances, dance recitals, concerts, comedy acts and TV and film award ceremonies. The Glendale Youth Orchestra, The Musical Theatre Guild and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra are just some of the organizations that have performed at the theatre. In addition, the Alex Society regularly hosts classic film viewings. Tours of the theatre, including the backstage area, are available upon request.

It was my first time going to the Alex theater. What a beautiful place it is. The show was fantastic. We saw out of this world performances for and remembrance of the Armenian genocide right before WW1 or right when it started somewhere about 1915.

Preforming arts theater in downtown Glendale on Brand. Architecturally significant neon tower at the entrance is a fantastic place marker for downtown Glendale. Seating, balcony and amenities are all decent. Broadway-sized stage and audio system.

Saw the 3 stooges film festival. Silly but enjoyable. You were required to show your vaccination card and wear a mask. Of course, 2 jokers and their girlfriends strolled in without masks after I was seated and were rather defiant about it. Hopefully, they actually showed their vaccination proof. If I had known there would be patrons like that, I would not have attended because I am an extremely careful senior.

This is a clean, nice theatre to experience. I went there for the SAG Awards Viewing Party, and I definitely want to go back to experience one of their performances. The staff was friendly and engaging with everyone. The seats were comfortable and clean. It felt so vintage, I loved it.

My daughter and I went to see *The Nutcracker^ and it was a wonderful experience all around. Getting the tickets online was easy, clear, and efficient. The ushers were helpful and kind. We can't wait to come back to this beautiful theater!

This looks and feels like a traditional theater I frequented as a kid. My seat was comfortable, and my view of the stage unobstructed. That's the most you can ask of a theater. I was there to view the SAG awards. The image on the screen and sound were fine. The event staff were hired by the Screen Actors Guild, so I don't have an idea of theater staff's service. Good times though!

Our yearly 3 Stooges festival came back to the Alex this year after missing last due to Covid-19. If you love their slapstick comedy then you won't be disappointed, laughs, chuckles and Stoog history abound. See you next year? certainly!

Cute theater, and the box office is always been friendly and accommodating. Processing fees per ticket are a little ridiculous, and seem unnecessary these days. It's going to add about $8 per ticket. If you can't handle stairs, be sure to get a handicap seat or be prepared to pay for a premium seat. The majority of the affordable seating is not handicap friendly.

I love old antique vintage buildings ... this Art Deco gem is no exception . I love the character, charm & history of old Los Angeles. I'm glad I got to take my mom to the LA ballet production of LA sylphide ...we went to The Nutcracker at Christmas time at Royce Hall another old building ,1929, a Very Good Year ...that was fantastic so i wanted to check out another local landmark venue ... the Alex theater is smack dab in the middle of a busy Glendale Restaurant Row kind of area so parking is limited and I suggest on a week-end you get there early to find parking...! Luckily I was able to drop my elderly mom off curbside to get to will call which is another fabulous feature of the Alex the only drawback besides parking is for an elderly person there are no elevators only stairs and my poor old mom has kind of worn out by the end of the evening... But if you're young and spry not to worry you can run up and down those stairs...! I prefer the Upper Terrace level to the first floor for a ballet... better viewing and the sound was great we sat right next to the sound booth... the upper level also has a restroom so that's nice if you have mobility issues. And nice intimate theater it would be nice if we had more events there on weeknights when parking is not at a premium. When hungry there's plenty of eateries nearby still open after the theater has closed.

Went there for the D&D Book of Knowledge event with the Autism Society- an absolute blast! Everyone there was awesome, and the staff were so kind. The theatre was absolutely stunning. I can't wait to come back next year for their next event, it was absolutely amazing. The vendors had great merch too, Heartbeat Dice especially! As someone with autism, thank you so so much to everyone involved for making this happen. You eock!

I was supposed to see the awesome Kevin Smith's first televised comedy special but that night he had a heart attack & so the show was cancelled but overall great place. Very timeless & vintage. Well lit for great selfies & great refreshments. Drinks were decent. Could see myself going there again in the future.

Very nice down-to-earth theater with a huge capacity, but still feels intimate. Very nice staff that's always professional. Backstage amenities and dressing room areas are top-notch. One of the best theaters in LA.

Great restored movie theater in downtown Glendale. As part of the Restoration, they also put in a stage for line performances. Great place to see a movie or a live show. Hold a great Three Stooges screening and cartoon screening every year. Take the kids!

Really quaint and fantastic, 20th century, proscenium arch theater with a rich historical heritage and friendly, accommodating staff. It has seen everything from the first talking motion picture to Motown and Alonzo Bodden, whom I just experienced, there..very hilarious

The other day we were there for the swan lake russian ballet, the show was fantastic but the ushers and employees were very unprofessional and distractiong annoying, they were keep walking around and standing in front of us blocking our view that we would miss and wasnt available to see anything of the show, and they would let everybody keep comming back and forth interupting coming in and out was very annoying and ruining the show, its pitty, like other shows in other places they should not let people in and out unless untill the breaks. Im giving 3 stars because of the show otherwise for the actual theater 1 star.

The Alex is one of the landmarks in Los Angeles and Glendale in particular. I have been going to the for over 40 years for many different events. Music, theater and even when it was turned into a movie theater for several years. It was renovated few years ago and returned to it original function as a theater.

This has been a fantastic place to not only work, but see shows. They have a huge variety from musicals, plays, dance recital, ballet, and even concerts. Parking is close by with validation from the Alex theatre.
