Reviews of Alley Theatre
Elias Lopez
I attended a new performance of A Christmas Carol this year. It was excellent! The cast did a great job. I enjoyed the stage set and singing in this year's version. Also, the Alley does a beautiful job of decorating Christmas trees in their lobby.
Omar Lastname
I saw Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. This was a phenomenal show. The cast was fantastic and it was worth every penny. This was a great theater with great facilities.
Matthew Nuckles
The staff was all outstanding. Helpful, friendly, and on the ball. The special "adult snowcones" was delicious, fun, and refreshing. The theater itself is well maintained, and really well done. The production I saw was outstanding.
Brandi Baldwin
I love the atmosphere of the theater. The employees are kind and helpful. The one thing I would say is A Christmas Carol has been dumbed down. We’ve been coming to see the show for decades and have volunteered with our children during the holiday. We DEFINITELY prefer the original version from a couple years ago. The maid was a definite favorite (now absent from the story line). Scrooges fiancé ( absent as well). The games from Christmas past now minimized. And the gender balance correctness gets in the way of a Christmas classic. It’s really sad. I hope they go back to a traditional way. Viewers aren’t as dumb as they think.
J.J. Sanchez
Fantastic time experiencing a new musical at the Alley. Houston is lucky to have opportunities for new theatre experiences of all types.
Jackie Martinez
Show was amazing. Only disappointing part was the 2 separate employees or volunteers who were rude and impatient. One who berated us after a kind employee let our child use the restroom rather than walk in the freezing cold and the other who took her role watching the stage entirely too seriously. For the love of all don't breathe near the edge of the stage.
Lindsey Swonke
Always a great experience. Easy parking with connected access. Great play and not a bad seat in the house.
Robert Wilson
What a delightful venue. Comfortable seating, and good acoustics even for those with less-than-perfect hearing. Helpful staff, and a reasonably priced bar for intermission drinks.
Kirk D. Bowie
I've been a long-term subscriber to the Alley and I really enjoy the diversity of the plays and the players! You have to experience it for yourself to make an accurate decision. As for me, I was sold long, long ago!!
Dustin Maneethai
The Alley Theatre has some of the best shows in Houston. The production quality is always superb and I'm often left wanting to come back for more, and do.
Jesse A. Burgos
Awesome place a must visit. Great shows.
AARON MILLER
The play was phenomenal. Set production and design flawless. Scrooge all the way to tiny Tim are casted with care and was the best casting. The city scene 3D effect was effective. Ghost amazing. A must watch for the family this post-pandemic holiday.
Regina Garvey
Parking was really easy. They assisted with seating. The show was excellent! Restrooms were very efficient. Someone helped keep the line moving quickly! I will go to another show.
Cayke Felipe
Watched an amazing production of a new musical called “Cowboy Bob”. The theater is also built in a way that there’s no bad seating. Tickets were also very affordable.
Joshua Blackmon
I purchased tickets for "A Christmas Carol" from a third party and then was unable to attend and could not get a refund. The Alley Theatre staff accommodated my family and I, and we were able to see the play at another showing. Everyone was so nice. The atmosphere was great and the play was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed their rendition. Thank Alley Theatre! You're amazing!!!
Whoislimos
Fantastic experience. I absolutely loved the venue and the musical Noir. It was my first ever and I’m definitely going back for more now. Stupendous acting and singing!
Jessica Anderson
I went with my daughter today to see Clue at the 230 showing. It was out first time seeing a play at this theater. This particular show was amazing, the cast was spot on, Ms White and Ms Peacock were fabulous and the laughter would ripple for minutes through the audience before dying down. I’m so very happy that we decided to give it a try.
The venue itself was clean with a red carpet entrance and a grand staircase. On the second floor is a terrace for smokers or to catch a view of the skyline if you don’t mind spoke. The ushers were extremely helpful in helping us find our seats. They also serve drinks both before and after and a bottle of water is $5 each.
The seats themselves were on the small side slightly uncomfortable to sit in, I’d pay a little more for a large seat section. We also sat in row g in the center aisle and they gave us a good view of the performance.
In the future I would probably Uber over parking. Leaving was crowded to get to the elevators for the $9 parking that I paid.
All this being said I am officially a fan and look forward to seeing other shows in the future.
Chuck Smith
Not completely fair rating this, since we were there for a production directed by a family member. But still: good layout and seating in the upper theater. The new production, "Noir", was very well staged and cast were exemplary!
Angela Masciale
Enjoyed the Christmas Carol and the behind the scenes tour (donate to the Alley to get exclusive access)!
The special effects are out of this world, the costumes are ornate, and the acting immaculate.
Michael Chapman
Amazing theater with top-tier productions.
Engracia Scott
The staff is very accommodating. We picked up a show here.
bob rosales
Saw the play Clue at the Alley Theater in Houston, it was phenomenal. All the actors were great, and the venue is beautiful. Great stage and seating arrangement. If you get a chance to go to this venue don't miss it!
David Verret
We saw clue and it was easily one of the best productions I have seen. The cast was great and set looked amazing. Houston is lucky to have a place like the Alley Theatre. *Chef's kiss*
Kaci L
CLUE was amazing! Definitely going back. My husband didn't think he was going to enjoy himself this much... And we booked plans to go back the next day. I was actually pretty close to the front, but it's a relatively small theatre, any seat should be good. Highly recommend, wonderfully different date time!
Damita Norwood
I had a wonderful experience at the Alley theater. Went to see CLUE LIVE and the characters were Hilarious, it's a very good MURDER MYSTERY
jools michs
Fabulous play "Holmes and Watson." Alley Theater is an absolutely wonderful venue. Highly recommended. Been attending plays here since 2012. Always a great experience....and wine, too!
Alison Parker
We went to see "What a Christmas," a one-woman show starring Briana J. Resa. It was wonderful. Playing several characters throughout the show, Ms. Resa embodied the people being portrayed with authenticity and care. I highly recommend this play!
Cathy Moore
We have been going there for years and have never seen a bad performance. The set, actors and actresses were awesome. Excited about what we will see next. The only issue I had was the seats, something about them made my back uncomfortable. I noticed a lot of people kept moving around in their seats as well.
Fe
Love the atmosphere during Christmas! We came back for a long loved show and to celebrate my birthday. The bar service is convenient and fast! Nice staff.
Sandra Wiles
We went to the Theater last nite it was a Great experience, I definitely can't wait to go back again..
Paul Lurix
Wonderful entertainment. Always top notch. A big variety of productions.
Hillary Asbury
Awesome play! So much fun to see these shows. Amazing cast and great location
Candy Dill
The production was perfect. My 19 & 8 yr old grandsons were mesmerized the whole time. The whole theater was decorated perfectly. Our seats were perfect. Price was good.
James Roberts
Fantastic plays here! My favorite theater in Houston.
Gregory Herring
I great intimate theater. I could not see a bad seat in the house. Comfortable and great sound
I will return
Ann Turkowski
Lovely theater where every seat has a good view.
Trina S
I had never been here before. It was beautiful inside and a small yet very impressive theatre. The set, lighting, sound system, cast, and overall performance was spectacular. There is not a bad seat in the house & cost of tickets are affordable. I ordered a drink before the show and if you want one during intermission you can pre-order and they will set it out with your name to pick up. When we went it was mid-week and the theatre was not 100% filled and parking was super easy and free on the street and only a few steps from the door. I am excited to go back and see more shows!
Jacob Baker
Saw Clue. Absolutely love the movie so I was a little nervous. They did a phenomenal job. I was very happy. My daughter is in theatre and is loving anything to do with it so she was pretty thrilled too. Next time there is a production that piques my interest we will definitely be back.
Michael Gordon
Went to see them at the Alley theater in Houston. Very funny had a great time
Shadow knight
This place has so many amazing shows and programs it's astonishing
Angela Williams
Absolutely lovely experience. From the staff to the set design to the decor. Loved and enjoyed every minute.
Certified Computer Repair
Very nice theatrical venue. Attended " A Christmas Carol" and the actors were amazing. Make sure to sit in rows C - H for eye level view. That said, there is not a bad view anywhere in the house! However, dont expect alot of comfort from the seats, think "airline coach" seating.
Cameron Meyer
This is a delightful theatre. It is just the right size so that every seat is a good seat. You feel like you are a part of the play. I saw Clue here and it was fantastic. The acting and production was superb.
John Cascio
Always fun at the Alley Theater. Enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes play immensely.
Gabriella Gear
Gorgeous place, they had all different types of amazing Christmas trees but the play was great. The action and the props where great! Would recommend to anyone who wanted to see a real play not just some school play.
Roberto Octavio Casas
Great place to watch a play. Went to see A Christmas Carol and it was a great experience. Every seat is a great seat. You can hear all dialog. One thing I'm not sure: it seems you can order a cocktail before hand and when intermission arrives, you just walk over to the bar and your drink is on the table with a slip of paper and your name. Honor system is in place here. I almost went and grabbed one thinking they were complimentary.
Lynn C
Phenomenonal shows, great acoustics, easy to book tickets and parking is a breeze (but kind of expensive).
Julie Dhanani
My first time here. We came to see CLUE for my birthday. It was the best live show I've seen in years. It was very funny and entertaining. The cast was BRILLIANT.
Scott Thompson
What a wonderful time we had here watching them put on the play "Clue". The cast was great, the seats were great and the facility is wonderful. Can't say enough good things about the entire experience.
K A
Watched NOIR there. Was a very good production. The theater is run well and kept clean. We did the golden circle seating and it was pretty solid seats. I would recommend section 3, row E-H for optimal enjoyment.
Wayne Dorris
Broadway-quality play was very entertaining. The music, songs, choreography, acting were excellent. I enjoyed every minute. Well done!! Don’t miss a truly wonderful experience.
Annette Dator
Not only was the show wonderful. The staff was very helpful. A young man in a straw hat helped me to my seat. I was using a walker and the original seat I chose was down some stairs so he helped me find a seat so I did not have to go down any steps. I remember choosing a handicap seat but the seat had stairs. Will have to look at the seating chart.
My original seat was H104.
Sandra Estefania “Steff” Lazo-Herencia
The small, round theater allows for an intimate viewing experience. I love sitting in the front rows of this theater because the performers are right there in front of you, where you could almost touch them! (But you shouldn't do that ;-)) They have talented in- house actors that combine charisma and a fresh take on performance.
Justin Nelson
Excellent experience, logistics and esthetics couldn’t be much better however seating could be revisited and upgraded with new tech.
Houston Cat
Great venue. Amazing acting.
Justus Durbin
Absolutely perfect this time was the most wonderful I have ever had. Always a perfect professional experience every time I go.
Kalli Knod
My husband and I had our first experience at the Alley Theater last night, and it was wonderful! We saw "Born with Teeth" (absolutely off the charts fantastic, btw) and we adored the intimate nature of the Neuhaus Theater. The bar staff and ushers were helpful and kind. Parking was easy and affordable, and finding the theater was a breeze. Side note: Drinks are very expensive, but that was to be expected. In the bathroom, they even had complimentary tampons! Just a thoughtful touch. Such a cool vibe all around and we cannot wait to go back.
Valerie Sweeten
Beautiful venue, great seats at every angle, spacious seating, easy parking nearby...
06houstonhemi
Very nice venue and The Christmas Carol was excellent. I wish there was a bit longer intermission. Also, I wish all of the theaters downtown would establish a dress code....
Shana Swanson
The Alley always does a great job of putting on quality productions. Top notch performances as usual.
Alice Gray
Everyone loved it! A Christmas Carol was amazing, and so many good photo opportunities.
Hk Ok
Clean and very organized 👌 the show was amazing and love them! …
Eric Collins
Agatha Christie's "39 Steps," It was a lot of fun! First time here since the remodel. It's nice. Very comfortable chairs and the seats seem closer and less obstructed.
Dre B.
The Alley Theater 🎭 is a great venue. Great seating, amenities, and acoustics.
I would only ask for the city to provide additional street lighting or at least better lighting surrounding the arts venues in that area. …
Elaine Chamberlin
This place was so cool, and after Harvey, they got a lot of damage, so it was awesome to see them repair their building like that. Their production of A Christmas Carol was so awesome, the actors did great, and I really recommend it!
Travis Eaton
Such a great intimate experience. Christmas Carol was perfectly executed.
D T
Very nice experience to watch live theatre. Great performance.
jennifer lehnert
A Christmas Carol was TERRIFIC!
Samsoon 61
Went to watch sense and sensibility and great play and wonderful actors. I bought tickets thinking their covid protocols were still in place. They're all gone. No vaccine card, negative covid test nor mask. Most of the workers had masks . The majority of the audience didn't have a mask. The seats are very close to each other so that makes it an issue. Lack of props and effects aren't the same but they made funny adjustments that added comedy to the play. Still recommend.
claire Armstrong
We are so happy the Alley theatre is back and running strong. As long time season ticket holders we have loved the season so far!
Well done and bravo!
William Garnes
Attended the ALL NEW FESTIVAL. This is a quality venue, easy access if you are staying or living downtown. Near to bus and train as well. On-site bars are open before the show and during intermission.
Gary Eugene Solomon Jr.
Very great place. Very covid safe. When your inside no matter where you are, you can enjoy the show.
Kira “Madge” Thompson
Always a treat. And with such an intimate setting, there isn't a bad seat in the house!
Kevin Baker
The best theater in Houston! Excellent productions, amazing performers, beautiful staging and scenery, and a modern and comfortable theater—every seat is a great seat. Come see a play and you will agree!!
Valerie Sweeten
Diverse offerings from classics to world premieres. Cast is outstanding!
Kirk Chantraine
Cute space and saw a great play! Highly recommend Quack if you can see it.
Mark Smith
Great experience, fairly intimate size. Only bad part is traffic and parking.
Jessica Hill
Affordable tickets and the theater is the perfect size where it's almost impossible to get a bad seat!! The Clue production was funny and had a few great twists.
LaShawn Ramon
I thoroughly enjoyed the play, the atmosphere and location. I no longer live in Houston, but will make it a point to attend plays and other Fine Art activities. I appreciated the staff taking measures to assure of everyone's health in staying masked up. It was s great evening!
Sonia Garces
Absolutely Phenomenal Show!
@18 months since the last production at Alley Theatre ...What A Show to Open💞 …
Theresa Robertson
We saw "Lend me a Soprano", it was a fantastic, colorful, funny play. I always ♥️ going to the Alley Theater.
Amber Kalish
I adore the resident actors. They are so fun and so good at what they do. Each has a different strength that really makes them all play off each other and play to their strengths in a way that is very artful and entertaining. Elizabeth Bunch does the best dramatic scenes, Dylan Godwin can amazingly be the funniest person in the room with his facial expressions and playful persona, but can just as easily give you a meaningful and dramatic performance that moves you, Michelle Elaine is such a fun actress to follow. I haven't seen her as much as some of the others but I am really enjoying her characters and her stage presence is commanding and joyful, Melissa Pritchett is delightful and QUITE THE BALLERINA!, wonderful dance number at the endshe is also very versatile and gives a funny yet dramatic performance that makes you laugh while feeling deeply for her character. Chris Hutcheson has always drawn me in with his characters, it seems like his soul is on the stage with you, Todd Waite's performance as Lady Middleton was so memorable and his delivery - just fabulous! Another wonderful Alley cast member. David Rainey gave a wonderful performance as Sir John Middleton and can make the smallest role just announcing a guest on stage give that certain charm the Alley has become known for. Thoroughly enjoyed Christopher Salazar as Edward Ferrars! He portrayed a nervously awkward Beau so well! It was fun to watch his facial expressions throughout the play and the bit about the handkerchief and ink was beautifully executed. I loved this play and it endears me to the Alley even more!
Jake Berry
Great performance as usual. The thratre has continued to stay updated and clean.
Sharon Libbra
This was a truly an awesome great experience.
Courtney Derixson
Beautiful. The acoustic architecture is superb! Every seat is a good seat and the show was amazing!
E Smith
Highly recommended, love this theater, actors & staff. They treat you like family. Booking is great and I so appreciate how helpful everyone is. Love the shows
Q Tee
This place is a gem. Great facility and superb performances! Not a bad seat in the house so you dont have to break the bank to enjoya good play!
Paulette Wolfson
It was great to be back in a theatre with a good, Live, performance. The play, Sweat, won a pulitzr prize, but was a little dated. Long. And could easily have been tightened up w/t losing any of the power of the original. The theatre took many precautions and was possibly 1/2 full. Because attendance was low, seats could easily have been spaced out, they were not. The mid section was very full. Let's remember social distancing.
Cindys linc
Over all good. My fault for buying a shaved ice for 16$. Intimate setting. My first time in a small theatre, so hard to judge
Ghost Biologist
The attention to detail is remarkable. The lobby is adorned with sophisticated red carpet and the place was decorated in a way that built anticipation for the play I went to watch. Parking was just $10, the seats were comfortable, and even the affordable tickets give you a good view of the show. The set was well made and the actors threw a wonderful performance. The few times I took my eyes off the show to view my fellow audience members, I saw them entranced by the performance. They also sold drinks.
Crystal Lee
Saw Since and Sensibility here on my first visit. Wonderful production! They have 2 theaters and provide a wide range of productions throughout their season.
Hans Von schrieber
You absolutely must go to one of their shows (or several), the cast is incredibly talented and puts on a wonderful performance you won't soon forget
Laura Martinez
Fantastic! The play was simply amazing. The set, the actors, the sounds, great stuff! Picked up tickets at will-call and there was a little mix up but the staff helped figure it out and it was squared away easily! The facility was gorgeous, clean and in this case decorated with Christmas stuff so very exciting. Truly a pleasant night out! Can't wait to see more plays here.
Dayna Salter
We are season ticket holders and are enjoying the new 2022 plays. Saw Amerikan tonight. It was an excellent production. Timely social story, well staged, great characters, great acting.
David Smith
Excellent theater for a play. Superbly maintained, handles crowds easily, and not a bad seat in the house.
Dennis Pelletier
Had a great time at the Alley theater last night. It is a fantastic venue. Our seats were great and the production was alternately funny, poignant, thought provoking and sad. In short, it was great!
The theater is small enough to feel intimate but large enough to be truly professional. Their bar service works great. You can order your intermission drinks before the show and they are waiting for you at intermission. Coffee is self serve so no waiting. It is a Houston treasure!
Anne L.
Such talented actors. We saw Clue tonight but have seen many performances and they never disappoint!!
Atmos Designs
It was a very awesome place to go. The crowd's getting to the door or we're not a huge hassle. The comfort of the chairs was really good. There is adequate lighting during before and after the play. The temperature was comfortable in all of the rooms. My wife and I both felt safe walking to and from our car. He was very easy to get around. And everybody there seemed very friendly.
Justin Singer
The Alley Theater is fantastic. They consistently host great productions. I have not been to a bad one yet. The theaters are a good size... big enough that there are seats available but not so big that it feels oversized. I would highly recommend going to every play Alley puts on.
Lori Miller
Our first visit to Alley Theatre. Had a wonderful experience! Love the theatre. We saw A Christmas Carol, the play was amazing, the cast was amazing. A must see experience for sure. Had a very lovely time, can't wait to go back.
Angela Clark
Very enjoyable afternoon show. Will definitely attend another play...
Scott Trebus
Always went to the Christmas Carol sort of our tradition. Got to say i was not happy with the new direction of the play. The play seemed disjointed. I guess I am a traditionalist, the actors did a good job, but I won't go back to see this next year unless it goes back to the original version.
Aimee Olmsted
We’ve been coming to the Alley Theatre for years. There isn’t a bad seat in the house, and the resident acting company is extraordinary. I always look forward to the Summer of Chills and A Christmas Carol productions. My 4-star rating is comprised of my previous experiences with dozens of performances—the quality of those performances and the theater itself. They lost a star due to my most recent experience.
As so many recent reviewers have commented on the 2021 production of A Christmas Carol, I’ll add my own opinion. This was a letdown compared to every other year’s performance I’ve seen. It felt rushed and thrown together. (It had a shorter run time, with no intermission.) There was no magic, no excitement, no energy. The attempts at humor and relevance fell flat. This classic tale is best taken at face value. The audience expects to be transported to a Dickensian world. The modern music and jokes detracted from the storytelling. I do not wish to see this rendition again and truly hope they will bring a full-length, more traditional version of the play next year.
I’ll continue to visit the Alley and am looking forward to seeing Sense and Sensibility in the spring. I’m hoping this year’s Christmas Carol was just a casualty of circumstances and not an indication of the quality of future productions.
Jouah Ballah
Great! Enjoyed everything. Will be going to another play
India Gray
Choose the production carefully as some are not worth the money. We've gone 2 times and both were flops!! The theater is very clean and modern though. The smaller theaters have been so much better in terms of the quality of the productions but are not typically as clean and modern.
Eagle T
Absolutely amazing!!! We were seating on the first row, We were shocked by all kinds of stage effects.
Dayanna Gomez
It’s good but parking lot confusing since they all say reserved.
Heather Torres
The inside was so pretty and elegant. Everyone was very nice. I loved the stage set up. Lots of comfortable seating.
Monika Montgomery
Went to go see a production of A Christmas Carol and must I say I am extremely impressed. Not only was the production quality fantastic but also the cast really gave an amazing performance. If you're wanting something fun to do outside of the normal dinner and a movie, I highly recommend checking out their next production!
Erich O.
Always a good time for a show at the Alley Theater.
Eheca Aztlah
We delivered a presentation, portraying a story of the origin of the Mexica people. The staff was very professional and committed.
Charles Pestell
Great theatre. All the seats are good or excellent, no need to sit in the traditional "best" seats. I've seen several productions there over the last few years and they're always good, accessible and entertaining.
Lee Ann Foulger
We really enjoyed the excellent Saturday matinee on 9/1/2018 of "The Mouse Trap." The cast members were marvelous, the set was fabulous and it worked very well with the plotline. Not a bad seat in the house. We really like this theater and its productions. We plan to return for two more of their plays in the upcoming season.
A Kush
I much prefer going to see plays at the Alley rather than Broadway. The plays we've been to on Broadway have very narrow seats with no leg room. It makes for an uncomfortable evening. Alley is palatial in comparison.
The sets are always great at the Alley. Perhaps Broadway may be a bit more elaborate, but it doesn't contribute that much.
The plays at the Alley have been very good, and some have been down right excellent. I did see a play on Broadway, and then saw the same one at the Alley. I must admit for that play, the one on Broadway was better (although it might have been because I saw it there first).
There is a new artistic director for the Alley. I hope he doesn't change too much. I've been going to plays there for 8 years or more, and haven't been disappointed.
Richard Foisner
Great local live theater venue. Not a bad seat in the house, so don't get too concerned if you can't get seats close to the stage. The seat configuration and the intimacy of this theater make all seats good. Local company puts on some really great shows. Get your tickets online and avoid any waiting in line!
Sam E
Clue was amazing. This is our second time here and both times were great. We will definitely be back.
James Seger
Terrific theater where there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Attached convenient parking.
The smell from the attached Italian restaurant will make you hungry walking in or leaving.
Need to show proof of vaccination and mask up to enter.
Doug S.
The Alley has never disappointed. Even our least favorite production's writing was redeemed through stellar performances, set design and technical aspects. The resident company is second to none. Everyone at the Alley should be applauded for providing such an amazing theatrical experience. We are and always will be season subscribers.
Hideaki Furihata
We watched Christmas carol here and enjoyed!
Rajiv Patel
Amazing production, the theatre that made us fall in love with theatre. There isn't a single bad seat in the house with the stage thrust out into the audience. Highly recommend checking out at least once.
Shahad Alhussainy
Nice staff, affordable prices, clean place, and cozy atmosphere. Small theater that makes any seat location a good view to the stage. Discounted prices for students. The parking garage in the same building. I liked the idea that we can purchase the parking permit online. The only bad thing is if you park your car in upper levels you may get lost cause there was no direction signs lead you to the theater gate!
Anna Witas
Alley Theater never fails to amaze the audience with a great performance. Good selection of plays, location in the heart of Houston, breathtaking view from the balcony – all this turns each visit at the Alley into a very special event. The theater has been recently renovated and there are no bad seats!
Jason Giddens
We saw a play called "The Cake" and loved it. The downstairs theater was very well done, great seats and the show was very well acted, well written and well directed. I have not been to the Alley in a long time, but we are now going back next month!
Rhonda S
Saw Mousetrap today, Sunday Matinee is an excellent time, no traffic! Play was Excellent!
Stage set was beautifully set to the era.
We bought our tickets and parking on-line. Smooth sailing from there. Section 3 was perfect seating. Sound was excellent, bathrooms clean and plenty of women's room stalls. Coffee was great! Looking forward to going back.
Duane A Miller
Clue was a terrific performance of a familiar script. Well done. Most enjoyable evening.
Lynn Pelletier
The Alley always feels like visiting old friends. The productions are always first rate. Well written, performed and just awesome to experience. Intermission is well thought out from a refreshment standpoint. Unlike some theaters, refreshments aren't allowed in the theater, but if ordered before the first act, they are waiting for you so no time wasted waiting in line.
David Villarreal
The facility is very nice and comfortable. Modern restrooms and a bar to order expensive drinks in advance for intermission.
The play seen was Quixote Nuevo, a Texas border adaptation of Don Quixote. Unexpected that 10-15% including songs were in Spanish with lines raising laughter only for the bilingual. Overall, most were able to follow the general storyline. Lead actor was very impressive.
Lizzy B
Great performance and first Alley theater experience. We saw a show at the Neuhaus stage and it was intimate with not a bad seat in the house. Ticket prices were fair, beverage selection at the pre-show bar was good. No drinks or food are allowed into the theater, so finish everything in the lobby. Restrooms are new and clean, although there is a pretty long line during intermission.
Overall, I will be back!
Update: While my experience at Alley has been nothing but good, I would like to comment on their insistent calling after purchasing tickets to try to get me to become a season holder. I had to block their number.
Jamie Taylor
Great time doing Theatre Day with the kids in a behind the scenes tour. Enjoyed watching The Three Musketeers. My only complaint is a staff member was extremely rude to our family. We had just finished the tour with a lunch break before the play. We had paid for the tour and tickets to the play and were denied access to the restrooms on the floor we were watching the play on an hour later. It would have been fine if they were polite about it but I have rarely encountered someone so rude that is there to provide support to the public and the arts.
Kat Wadu
I went to see A Christmas Carol via a friend's invite. So happy i went the acting was amazing. The effects were stunning. Im going to make it a tradition. The theater itself the seats are not comfotable at all. I noticed I wasnt the only one moving and shifting. i was looking for wifi and they didnt have any. Also before the show starts people were standing around and there are not enough seats or room. Hence the 4 stars, other than that the show was incredible. I totally encourage people to check out whats happening at the Alley. Tip get there early so parking isnt a hastle.
Arnold jr
Such a great place to watch a show!
Theresa Tompkins
Lastest I saw was Murder on the Orient Express. Really well done. The bartender is fast and friendly (though it would be helpful to have a couple more for intermission). Parking is easy. We are fortunate in Houston to have such good entertainment available and affordable.
Jeremy Masten
We love going to the Alley, not a bad seat in the house. The regular actors are great, and they also bring in great actors from time to time. We just saw Quixote Nuevo, which was excellent. We try to see 3-4 plays a year, and they're consistently great

The Alley Theatre is a top notch theatre and they put on award winning plays. They have two stages and the main stage is typical and reasonably sized though small enough that there really are no bad seats in the house. The lower smaller theatre is more intimate and the first rows are practically on stage with the actors. I highly recommend making an evening of dinner downtown and a night here enjoying a show.
Lori C
My daughter and I went to see A Christmas Carol. The decoations were beautiful and the play was fantastic!! The cast was incredible... I don't think I have the words to describe how great this play was. This will be a new tradition for my daughter and I.
Ray Ramirez
Went to casino party here, it was a great event
Debbie Quinn
Superb acting, striking stage set with water rain thunder terrific lighting and costume design. 2 days left for this Shakespeare performance if there is an empty seat buy it!! See this play. We loved it!
Mariano J Rivera
Went to go see the Winter's Take performance, but the theatre itself is really well designed to house 2 shows and guests in it's lobby quite well. The theatre itself is designed to amplify quite nicely and it feels bigger than it actually is
Julie Davis
I always love a trip to the Alley. The only negative was fixed once they remodeled years ago. Now there is no waiting for the ladies room :) My family loves seeing A Christmas Carol every year, but my favorite part is the Summer Chills. We love seeing familiar faces when we go. It feels like we are seeing our own friends in the shows. And there is NOT a bad seat in the place.
Jason Sorrels
Fantastic place to go for a date to see the latest plays. It has been a Houston institution for years and never fails to delight. The performers do a fantastic job and the sets are amazing. I highly recommend seeing a show here if you get the chance.
Mike Planka
Went to see a Christmas Carol last night, not a bad seat in the house. The play , Cast , Sound , Special Effects were excellent . The Alley Theatre Staff were very professional & courteous and i would highly recommend this play for family entertainment .
Kaylene Medina
Wonderful matinee production of Dead Man's Cell Phone. Really cute and the cast did an excellent job!!
Cactus Flower
Took my two grown kids to see "The Christians" last night. It was, as are all of the Alley's productions, excellent. Very thought provoking. And would have been even more enjoyable if we weren't all freezing to death! I took a sweater, but gave it to my daughter halfway through the play when I noticed her teeth were chattering. I observed many folks with their arms crossed, hands frantically rubbing their arms to get warm. When they weren't sitting on their hands, that is. I mentioned this to an usher on the way out who said, "Well, it's a small crowd. Fewer people there to generate body heat." WHAT? I do believe that's what thermostats are for. And, besides, all the ushers have on jackets. I think, if the Alley wants return customers, it would be prudent to have a theatre that doesn't double as a meat locker!
Dennis B. McGuire
What a thrill it was for me to be back in this magnificent theatre after 36 years, to see the play "The Mousetrap," by Agatha Christie. So much history here. The entire basement level has been restored since Hurricane Harvey, after millions of dollars in damage. The entire building is beautiful once again.
Valeria Mcdonald
Awesome backstage tour. Saw props being made and met a wig maker who gave a brief demo of how wigs and facial hair are custom made in-house. The tour was very informative, showing how the magic if threatre is made. Reservations required.
David Vise
I always worry when a play is advertised as a comedy. Some people think silliness is comedy and I don't. However, I was pleasantly surprised by The Carpenter playing at the Alley. It was a good comedy and an enjoyable performance. There were a couple of twists and turns, but that kept the audience engaged. Go and enjoy.
Virginia Barriera
Last time was there about 7 years ago, after Harvey, they closed for renovations since it got flooded. I saw " The three Musketeers" it was a good play and funny. The actors very talented. I recommend it.
Christopher Frazier
We love this amazing place! The shows are captivating and spectacular. One example of a show “A Christmas Carol”, it blew me and my wife away. The show had special effects and great actors.
Karen Christoffel
Christmas Trees were spectacular and production delightful and so different. One suggestion though...a handrail up the outside steps. Dangerous for those of us who use a cain.
Elden Rivas
Friendly staff. We saw Amerikin. The acting was incredible and the story challenged you. Great time here. Really glad we came.
Anne Chappee
Love the Alley Theatre's setup. Parking is very close and only $10 (cash only). Birraperetti's is right there. The play was good, not great. Other plays I have seen there have been great. Also many women's restrooms which is awesome! 🙂 …
Lucila Alcarese
They were courteous and place was clean. I loved the acting and the whole experience was spectacular.
Leisa Novak
Murder on the Orient Express was one of the best shows I have seen at the Alley. The set was beautiful and very creative. The actors did an outstanding job. Highly recommend it!
Carlton Spalding
A very small and cute theatre that oftentimes has small productions that you usually don't see or hear about. I ALWAYS go see their Christmas Carol production every Christmas. It's nothing fancy or extravagant like Broadway but it's got all the passion and talent you'd see anywhere else.
Ruth Sang
Even though we were seated on the side of the stage, the arrangement and acoustics allowed us to see and hear everything. The performance was top notch! Just a charming afternoon out and for a reasonable price.
Margaret F
Liked the performance and especially staging. He'd trouble hearing some lines. Sound not consistent. Wish I had known about head phones. Also had BIG problem for of us getting up to ticket booth and elevator. No handicapped entry or exit??? Seats were good row M, N.
William Peniche Jr
Among the greatest theaters in all of Houston. If you don't want an over crowded area, but at the same time some very well developed stages along with plots and fantastic plays, this is the place to go. A must visit for all Houstonians as well as tourists. You don't need to worry about where you set as seating wonderful everywhere. Fantastical jokes and plots. Great places to eat at only a short walk away from the theater.
Grace Lee
I saw a Christmas Carol it was great they put alot of work into it. The theater was clean nicely set up. It does get very cold in there. Bathrooms were very clean and parking was not too bad $12 for the garage
Jamie A
I have always enjoyed performances at the Alley. The seating arrangements provide an intimate setting in which to enjoy the show. We attended the last performance of the season and the theater will be closing for a year for much needed renovations. I look forward to visiting the new Alley in 2015.
Patti Westbrook
World class theatre in beautiful downtown Houston. The renovations (and the re-renovations post Harvey) are fantastic. Every seat is a good seat. There is a walk up bar and lovely patio area to take in the scenery. Park in the adjacent garage. Go see a play! Go see all the plays!!
Joshua Templeton
Great theatre. The shows are fun and the atmosphere is awesome. Haven't seen a bad show here yet. The theatre is small and the shows are not necessarily national shows so it's kind of like going to see an off broadway show. I will continue to see shows here. I love the theatre district and Alley is my top 2 favorite theaters to attend.
Joshua Eckhardt
Fantastic experience! We saw Clue, what a hilarious, dramatic, unique experience. Great venue.
Muffin Scully
Just saw Noir with my mom and daughter! Haven't been to the Alley in a few years it was awesome!
Merve Erten
We just saw the "Murder on the Orient Express“. The play and the players were great. We really enjoyed it. The theatre is perfect. I think visitors who sit any of the seats can see and hear the play properly. The atmosphere is great. I strongly recommend this theater. We will definitely visit there, again. Our next play will be “1984” by George Orwell.
Zola Cater
The Alley has had a phenomenal season. The last play of the season premiered last night. Noir is a musical and will be lots of fun. They produce a mystery every summer, as well.
Zacharia Grami
Great showing of “The Cake” in Neurhaus theater of Alley.
Biggest issue is how cramped the seats are. If you are over 5’10 expect your knees to be compressed by the edge of the seat ahead. Best to book the front or very back rows.
All seats except north are great.
Tyler Falkenhagen
We saw Hamilton here and it was good. Regardless of the show, it's well kept and they offer the ability to pay for drinks at intermission. This is a must do so you can simply grab your drink
Robert Little
Traffic in Houston was horrible! It always is. We were late and couldn't be seated. The staff were kind and pulled upna couple of benches so we could watch via CCTV. After intermission we were able to find our purchased seats and they were wonderful! The rest of the play was GREAT! We'll be back next year, but leaving early.
White Hat
Well maintained, with helpful staff. All the usual amenities are available including wine hard liquor candy breath mints soft drinks and water. WiFi is available bit requires password. Parking garage next door only accepts cash so be sure to stop at an ATM first. Event parking typically costs $10. Plays are of good quality and variety. Recommended for a date night.
Erika Garcia
Love the performances and especially the personnel that worked with my child during spring break.. My child was sure excited everyday to attend ! They sure did work so good with all the children and can't wait to enlist my child again!
Brandon Crouch
I saw my first play here. It was a cheeky mystery, but the overall experience was unlike any other! To see the actors on the stage just feet in front of you, to feel the voice of an actor screaming, yelling and laughing. It makes you feel like you're part of the experience. Cannot wait to go back.
Lance54r
The show was great and the theatre is very nice. We we're disappointed that no one was there to valet parking our car. Also nobody was at the table to check out the devices for the hearing impaired. We could not find an usher either.
Kristy Payne
My mystery buff friend invited us to check out "The Mouse Trap" a couple of weekends ago. It was awesome. I love the intimacy of the theatre. There's not a bad seat in the house. I told my friend I felt bougie, going to the theatre and dining afterwards. It's nice to treat yourself sometimes.
Samuel Diaz
Every seat is a wonderful seat in this theater.
Loyd Hamilton
Just saw Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at the Alley. We had 2nd row seats and they were amazing. The show is off the scale quality production & actors. My favorite part was a guy in a bear suit!
Adara Orta
Went there for the Christmas carol play, will be going back one day
Matthew Crawford
Amazing theater troupe reside here. This is the place to go if you want to see quality work and excellent plays. One of the best hidden gems in Houston's incredible (and often underrated) arts scene. Check out the Summer Chills series as well.
Monica Henderson
Love love love going to the Alley. We go to the Summer Chills every year for my mom's birthday and it's always fantastic. The actors are magnificent, the play is always a mystery (usually Agatha Christie), and the redone theatre is gourgeous.
Rebecca L Burley
The artsy, classical feel of this theatre made the atmosphere alive and the show more fantastic!
Definitely go to the bathroom before you go though because they are disgusting. Also be sure to bring cash because parking and the bar don't take cards.
D/C B
It was comfortable seating, and the play “Clue” was funny and well acted!
Jacquelyn DeHart
The set design, costumes, lighting, acting and accents were superb. I had such an enjoyable evening watching the play Murder on the Orient Express. I will be coming back for more!
Yvonne Rodriguez
Always a great place to visit great atmosphere
Papi Chulo
This place is great. I do not always make it every year, but when I do is always a great show. Sitting is a little crammed, however, I have "enlarged" a few sizes myself. Visit this place alone or with company, you will enjoy.
Tyler Schmidt
This place has endured much distress through the forces of hurricane Harvey. The building and cast have bounced back greatly. The building has been fully remodeled. My wife and I joined Alley Theater for opening night for A Christmas Carol. The play was wonderful and we had a great night. We will certainly return for the Sherlock Holmes play.
Pamela Humphrey
Small intimate theater. Fantastic actors. Great play selection.
Chris Hamilton
Acting was great, venue was fantastic. Not a bad seat in the house. BUT my SO had surgery on her foot and though they have handicap facilities, they didn't handle our situation very well. There was a wheel chair ramp that we weren't told about until after the show when i specifically asked if there if was different way for her to get down to her seat (i purposely got us seats right next to the handicap area). They repsonded that there was no way for her to get down to her seat, so she hopped all the way down on one leg and banged her foot on the rail on the way down. Needless to say, I was pissed. I give 4 stars because we had an amazing time and we didn't let ruin our evening.
john caravello
Always love a show at the Alley!
Hether Alford
If you like theatre, you will love the Alley. The sets are extravagant and polished, the costumes befit the characters, and the actors always get a standing ovation. Highly recommend!
Chris Hollman
Thoroughly enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express. Seats were near the stage and the acoustics were excellent. The staff were helpful in assisting us to our seats. Will return again.
Jodie Àrmstrong
Totally enjoyed Clue! Check it out! Very entertaining! Love the cast!
Hal DeVore
Truly wonderful regional theater. Resident company is excellent. Lots of interesting guest artists. We're about to move away from Houston and the Alley will be the part of the city we will miss most.
Bob Franco
Superb staging, scenery and acting. We just saw The Three Musketeers, a bit of a farce. You may not love each and every play but overall this is the best theater in Houston. Buy a subscription!
Kristina Flores
I went and saw a show the other night! I had an amazing time! The bartender Sonya was an absolute delight! Super sweet and had a few funny jokes!! Great theater and great staff!!
Tom Lambrecht
Excellent acting and production values. Very professional theater. We enjoyed it immensely.
Mandy Louis
The renovations were oh so needed and have done it well. It still has kept its Alley charm but now with more bathrooms - and swanky bar.
There alre always at least 3 shows in their season, I am dying to see. And they never disappoint. The experience is always top notch and personal.
TIP: skip their garage parking and find street parking or park in Lyric's lot behind the Alley. It is WAY less stressful of an exit strategy ;-)
analia brandan
Dead man's cell phone was a good play. The theater is charming and the staff is very friendly
Zain Rizvi
Great theater in the heart of the theater district in downtown, Houston. You can either come here via the train and walk a couple of blocks down or drive here. Currently, the valet section has been closed off but there are two garages where you can park. They have great plays there with an even greater cast. Always current and give great opportunities to new and upcoming playwrights. If you can't attend the main shows, they always have others at a reduced cost.
Greg Gardner
Participated in the family day - was an amazing experience - especially the visit to the production facilities on good above parking garage. My kids are 35 and 33, and we all enjoyed it!
Jorge O Cotte
First of all parking was very convenient $12 underground lots of help, even got a ride in a golf kart to the entrance of the tunnel which leads to the actual theatre...
At the end of the tunnel an Usher greet us properly and directed us to the elevator indicated we need to go further up... Nice and clean all along...
Then another flight of stairs towards the actual entrance...
Foyer well lit with ample space to mingle, found the bar with premium spirits, soft drinks or even coffee...
Btw, you could even pre order drinks for the intermission and make it more enjoyable...
There is an outdoor Terrace but didn't make my way there because it was too cold and breezy. It didn't look out of the ordinary but I can picture there some sort of soiree well catered for an special event...
The actual [Neuhaus] theatre was well designed and enough access to find your seat or to get out without stumbling with the crowd. Seats were very comfortable and clean plus enough leg room to shift from time to time without bothering other patrons.
Fantástico rato que pasamos para ver The Carpenter by Robert Asking.
Cindy Gonzales
We love going to the Ally theatre great date day. I have to say not a big fan of musicals unless it's Evita so was very surprised when we went to see Freaky Friday and it was a musical and nothing like the original movie at all we where very disappointed.
Janis Scott
Accessible seating options. Friendly staff. Nice. Neuhaus theater, lower level.
Adalia Sotomayor
Awesome, sound effects, laughter, best Scourge
Maverick Boris Fowlkes
Amazing shows, great atmosphere, adequate parking prices.
Jonathan Thomas
Wife and I love this place. All seats are good seats.
Patrick Landry
Production of A Christmas Carol was great.
Rhonda Session
As always, my experience with the plays at the Alley Theatre never disappoints me. The Actor's and Actresses are simply AMAZING..... Keep the plays coming.
Daniel Gorman
Saw The Three Musketeers. Casting, acting, and fight choreography where all great. It was. Fun time.
They also do community days where the public can tour the theater and learn more about the play
Russell Knott
We love taking the whole family to the family friendly shows. We have seen many shows here and they all are impressive. I look forward to creating more memories here in the future.
Esmeralda Garcia
Great experience! We watch the Christmas Carol every year, and I'm always impressed!
rick rose
I haven't been since Harvey happened but the times that I have been before that have always been fun. I've seen many shows on both of their stages and have never had a bad seat.
Rachel Guidry LeTraunik
Went to see Twelfth Night and the way they tackled the rain and the moat were incredible! Spacious seating, well stocked bar, and clean bathroom. Definitely recommend!
Maricela Aguilera
Wonderful performance of "Constellations"! There's no bad seat at the Nehause stage, it's very intimate. I always have a great time here!
jatcrt
Wonderful place for we'll acted drama and comedy., orignal plays done by an outstanding, award winning local theatre group. Better still , not as bad seat in the house in this recently renovated venue.
My favorite place for live theatre in houston.
Bill
Clue was a great play, outstanding acting and creative staging and lighting.
A. A.
Love this place. Just so rich in theater with diff setups in diff theaters. It’s just so nice to be able to see live plays etc. highly recommend!! You won’t be disappointed

They have magnificent effects and great plays, I especially loved the play Holmes and Watson! They continue to be awesome, their revolving stage was really cool 😁 …
Pushpa Shenoy
This was such a fresh different kind of play
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sandy Troff
Love this theater. Wonderful productions, not a bad seat in both theaters. Renovations included adding many restrooms and bar area. Preorder intermission drinks for quick service.
William Davion
The recent update is fantastic. The hall is lovely and offers a wide range of plays. My only complaint is in the past few years they've gotten more politically preachy in the play choices. Along with to many odd modern plays.
Amy Smolen
The Alley always gives a show to think and talk about!
Bill Lyle
Always a great experience. The Alley is world class. Easy parking, entry, and seating. Always exciting to see what the set looks like for each production.
Marlo Blue
Love the redo of this classically modern theater venue! New sound system/acoustics work well. Reasonable Matinee prices available some shows. Comfortable seating.
Kaye Mitchell
I enjoy this small theater and the play we saw, Noir, is Broadway worthy.
Maze Malone
Went Here For An Audition. The Casting Team Is Just Awesome. Very Nice And Helpful. Hope I Get Call Backs Notification Soon For The 2017-18 Season
Mike Lampkin
All the seats are really good seats! Ha! We have never seen a bad production. Such a talented team and always a wonderful experience.
Bill Stites
Great performances in a well designed theatre. However, be aware that navigating the pedestrian tunnels can sometimes make returning to your car a challenge.
Amber Molina
Lovely beautiful Theater. Not a bad seat in the house. This theater was one of the first nice theaters in Houston. All brand new inside after Hurricane Harvey.
Amariee Collins
What a wonderful place to see the arts
Linda McLaughlin

I saw Agatha Christie's Mousetrap & it was awesome. The actors and set were great. The theatre was really cold, so bring a wrap or light sweater.
Calistro Rodriguez
Took my 15 month old to see the Christmas carol. Was a great experience not a huge place but not small. I would say no seat can be bad. Perfect smaller theater for family.
Elizabeth
They've done a great job on the renovation, every seat is a good seat
Heather Nicole

Great regional theater. 2 venues the smaller Neuhaus theater downstairs and the larger Hubbard theater upstairs. Strong in house set of actors and frequently host touring productions.

Stan McDonald
Clue was very funny and entertaining.
Heather KaiserHahn
We love it here they do an amazing Christmas Carol. They run school or student matinee too. Parking garage immediately behind them is cheaper than others but you have to get there early as it fills up quickly.
Sharon Hoyt
Just attended the All New works. These are readings & rollouts of works under consideration as new productions. Unique to involve a real audiance for the playwrites.
Absolutely a World Class theatre.
Large varity of productions each season on 2 stages.
Look over this season and buy your tix now!
Cy Keskin
Best in town, I got seazonbticket for 2, it was ok in price, relatively ex pensive weekend tickets vs. Weekdays tickets are cheap. Great plays, great environment, kind people serve and help around. I advise alll Houstonians. At least one time, you should try!
Brent Barry
Awesome theatre. Seating on the extreme ends of the theatre restrict your view of the stage however, ensure you get seats inside, if you're in the ends you could miss salient parts of the play
Bud Zahand
Great Theatre. Views are great from practically every seat...
Gene Sowarby
The Alley Theatre is always a good bet! They have a new art director and I can already tell the difference!! Their performances are always well done and professional!!
Chelsea Jordan
Beautiful theaters! There are two in this building, and they're both quite intimate. The seats are comfy, and the place is very clean.

Duke Ensell
Alley brings the very best to Houston's stages. Great plays that inspire, educate and intrigue the audience.
kristina
Since native Houstonian guest director, Jackson Gay, has been invited to The Alley from New York the pertenece of the shows has tripled. The theatre itself has several pieces of theatre going on in different theaters. I forget the the theatre Jackson's last show was in, (I believe it was the Carolyn Farb theatre) but it was a very intimate one woman show with Suzanne Vega. It was a perfectly paired theatre/production show.
The Alley is a must visit if you live in or visit theatre!
Susie V
I have been attending performances at the Alley Theatre for decades and the actors are always stellar. The newly renovated Alley is beautiful!
BAHADIR ERDIL

Favorite spot to catch a show in Houston, and under the new Creative Director, Melrose, “A Winter’s Tale” was fresh and new under a Texas sky. Looking forward to many more.

Of course, one of the gems of Houston culture. Very professional employees, good downtown location near food, and artist professionals are truly talented and committed to the city.
Mya Ramirez
I am a beautiful person to be a great time . I will be a good day , but I think I am not sure what you think of it . the other hand . it was not a good time and effort you put it on the way to get the chance to see the full amount of the most important thing to be a little while ago . the only way to get to the top right now . the first one to the top of the world of the best of luck to you . you can also be able to get the best .
