Reviews of Wealthy Theatre
My son and daughter-in-law brought me to the Wealthy Theatre when I was out for the Holidays and we watched Trains Planes and Automobiles. I had a wonderful time! I loved the personalized service that was presented and the Theater was absolutely beautiful! I would definitely go again!
Had been staying out of movie theatres since the first lockdown up to now. Loved it here, will be back many more times
I always love going to events here and they always seem to have the most interesting events at this place. The staff is primarily volunteers so they really like being there. The food and drinks are not overpriced and if you get a membership you can even get alcoholic drinks.
I attended "A Christmas Carol?" at the Wealthy Theater, which combined the beloved christmas play with Improv. It was much better than I anticipated. The entire performance included only two characters and made for a hilarious play. The gentleman reminded me so much of Robin Williams in his mannerisms and personality that it gave me goosebumps. They included the audience enough to make it fun, but not enough to make a shy someone uncomfortable. This performance was held in a part of Wealthy Theater that I didn't know existed. It was clearly made for an intimate audience as the space was quite small and had super comfy seating. I love performance art, and this did not disappoint! Looking forward to supporting the arts again soon.
Thank you so much to the Wealthy Theater staff for the hospitality! Without you guys our comedy show wouldn't have run so smoothly, you made my job so much easier... I salute you!
Looking for a theatre with regular showcases & community-building events? Well, then look no further! The Wealthy Theatre is a place to be!
We were here last year for the Thriller! Chiller! Film Festival! What a great time! It was local, independent film-making at its best! We met industry folks & film enthusiasts, watched thriller shorts & suspense features all day long! 💀 We bought tickets online which was super easy and parked in the small lot behind the theatre.
I loved their Halloween-themed lobby decor & was pleasantly surprised by their movie snacks & adult drink options! A Midwest gem for sure! ❤ Hope we have the chance to return soon!
Nice little theater. The architecture was awesome. The one down side is the seats are a little uncomfortable.
Such a cute venue, hosting so many unique events. Well-priced. Always a good time!
Fundraiser for Exodus Place... very uplifting and in depth look on Men in the Grand Rapids Michigan community and the obstacles, set-backs and success stories Donation info is included here! Let's be the DIFFERENCE! 🖤💰🖤💰🖤
God Bless You Exodus Place! …
Happy its been around so long. I haven't been back since shutdown. The venue is still a nice place to see live shows or movies.
It was fun watching Empire Strikes Back. Since it is an old theater you are quite cozy (arms and legs touching and seats very close in front of you) to everyone, but it was clean.
The theater feels so homey, the staff is always friendly, and they bring in unique events that are always affordable for the community!
Cool, very cool old school theater!! Always have awesome shows and movies here!!! Great for local filmmakers!!
Great place to show a movie doing a show just about anything love it will be back soon. Very soon
This theater is a Beautifully restored piece of the past. It is a intimate setting in the theater. The antique seating is aesthetically pleasing but not comfortable. We sat through a very enjoyable 2.5 hour play.
If you’re overweight and tall it’s a very cramped sardine tight seating experience. There isn’t any leg room. Luckily the theatre wasn’t full or I would have had a stranger next to me basically on top of me.
Other than the tiny uncomfortable antique seats the remaining expirence was good.
The concessions were popcorn with many salt flavors to choose from. I must say the popcorn seemed not fresh or hot. Several choices of candy and soda. No bottled water choices.
The restrooms were updated and clean and stocked.
Over all it was a very enjoyable experience all be it a snug seat fit!
They did have two pairs of free standing chairs in the back row in the handicapped spaces. That is an option if you’re a tall larger person.
Beautiful old theater and we saw an amazing magic show there! Dan Sperry is the real deal! The theater is amazing and well worth the visit! It's got the old school charm of an old theater and is in great condition! Couldn't have asked for a better spot!
A fun intimate evening. This may be a small venue, but it's big on fun!
We were there for a comedy show with Jesse Payton and Zach Rushing. The staff was very friendly & it was a great place for an intimate atmosphere. I lived in Grand Rapids for 50 years & this was the first time visiting this place, I loved it!
First tine coming here was EPIC! We saw Goblin live while watching original Suspira. Concessions were super affordable. Everyone was friendly and seemed to love what they do. The atmosphere was awesome. Love it. Will be back again and again!!
Friendly staff, reasonable prices and old timey theatre vibes.
Beautiful theatre, with great cult movies and more.
Great theater, good concession options for a small theater and if you're a member you can order alcoholic beverages.
I absolutely love coming here. They have all sorts of fun things in their schedule, from plays, to comedy, to smaller musical shows, to cult-hit movies. I even took my kid to a stop-motion animation workshop here once and they taught us all how to make a video using stop motion and let us loose with their cameras and computers to make our own masterpieces. I frequently check their website and look for excuses to come to a show here because I just love the experience every time.
Great place to see classic or offbeat movies. Was here to see "Akira" on the big screen but have been before to see various performances which is always fun. Bar is open to CMC members and tickets are always inexpensive.
This theater is a mixed bag. It definitely needs some updating. The sound was fine in there and we could see great but the seating was very uncomfortable. The seats are small and everyone was cramped together. I'm also not sure why but the lights were left on low during the show instead of it being dark over the audience. It's like going to a movie and leaving the lights on low instead of off. I really didn't care for that.
Saw Piff The Magic Dragon and its an awesome smaller theater. Very intimate setting for any act you may be seeing.
Excellent small theatre experience. If you enjoy watching movies with a crowd, then this is for you. Watching Big Lebowski when this theatre reopened from Covid was a magical experience.
I was at the Thriller Chiller film festival and it was a great time. Beautiful venue and great people!
Beautiful theatre, and amazing helpful staff.
I really like this theater, it is old school and fun. They have movie Tuesdays like star wars and the mummy. The seats are so beautiful. Popcorn and pop are really good too. What you waiting for you must go!
Wonderful place that's hosts an amazing assortment of entertainment and educational events! Reasonable memberships and great beer on tap.
Take a step back in time and enjoy this beautiful venue. My 1st visit to see the Pop Scholars live on stage and it won't be my last.
Update: 2nd visit the the Wealthy theatre did not disappoint. Pop Scholars were amazing, hilarious and the way they interact with the audience is perfect. Best improv experience you could ask for.
Great theater. Seats are small but I'm a big person so that's not going to apply to all patrons. Popcorn was delicious and the movie they played was great. All the employees were polite and helpful. Parking is not ideal so show up early if you want a spot close to the theater.
Great local indie theatre + tasty popcorn
Great show great place very comfortable
Ww went and watched a great comedy show, it wasn't crowded and the theater definitely had beautiful features!
This place is great for watching those cult classic movies we enjoyed from back in the day, and they have live performances too. Please note you need to be a member to buy booze, however you can quickly sign up right there on the spot, it took my husband maybe 5 minutes or less. We'll definitely be back, pricing isn't bad for tickets or concessions and it's definitely a good time!!
As a performer/techy of theater, I definitely felt at home. The welcome back intro to the theme from "2001 A Space Odyssey", nostalgic movie, affordable snacks & the entire ambiance of the theater was perfect! TAKE THAT ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE!
First time in the theater. Found it very nice and the performance was a great sound and easy to see everyone.👍👍 …
Take a step back in time at this cozy movie theater!
It was a fun and interesting experience watching a film at this place. After buying your ticket, you enter into the waiting/lobby area where an antique film dispenser is put on display. To the right is another room/area that leads to the bathrooms; there were also some cool posters and paintings on displayed.
Definitely recommend this place for an out-of-the-norm date idea or just a cool experience with friends.
Great atmosphere! Do not expect one of the big movie theater centers. This is like watching movies at home with friends, but on the big screen. If you are ok with that, this is the place to be.
Amazing venue! Clean bathrooms, snacks and popcorn were wallet friendly and the staff were very nice as well. I will definitely be back.
Nice old vintage place. A step back in time. But for us large people born after the 30's, just a little crowded seating.
Really neat little theater. I was here not for a movie, but to see a band play. It was an odd venue for a band, but still held the charm of the building and space. I enjoyed the little things like the old-timey-ish ticket booth and the old style chairs. I like that they served beer here (though you do have to be a member to buy any). I would love to come back to see a movie.
Been coming here for quite awhile now. I mostly go to their meanwhile movies, but they’re super affordable and always a fun time. The staff is really mellow and friendly, drinks and snacks are great, and the movie selections are always pretty solid. Definitely worth your time!
Awesome place! 👌🏾 …
It's a cute little theater to visit, but was incredibly cramped. The staff was largely unorganized and uncoordinated. Making people pay extra money (12$ a person) to be "members" before you can purchase alcohol is also a pretty odd business decision...
Went for a comedy show. The staff was friendly. Great place to see something new and interesting.
Love the old movies on Tuesdays. Total throwback feels getting to see some of these in the theater again
The comedy show of Zach rushing was awesome. Haven't laughed so hard in a long time
Today I went to the Wealthy Theatre for the Mosaic Film Experience and it was great!
I have participated in the 2017 MFE. It was just as great. We got to meet the guy who created the customes for Black Panther and many more! I feel like now I'm mostly just talking about the MFE rather than the Theatre itself. The theatre was great too!
If you like old days themed things than I would recommend going here. It's details on the walls and chairs are really vintage feeling. Including the building itself!
Small venue which does serve minimum alcohol drinks nice place to see a local group as well but one major issue was the room temperature, was way to cold in there last night. I did say something about it and they said they adjusted it but I don't think anyone knew how
Other than those 2 issues a nice place overall
Just so many excellent events are held here. I'm always having fun and learning something new. Movies, music, plays, and other events. It's all here!
Unfortunately there was a power outage when I went so this is more of a review on the building itself. We were trying to go to the Grand Rapids Film Festival. It's a beautiful theatre so I feel like I would enjoy watching a movie here. Maybe next time I go I'll be able to watch a movie.
Place is really cool and love the old style and movie it plays but I wish non members could buy a beer
Great venue! So happy to be back!
Love the aesthetic of Wealthy Street Theater, and the movie selection for their weekly Meanwhile movie. The chairs are a bit much on your butt after the entirety of Return of the King, extended edition, but I suppose that's not that surprising. Servings for popcorn and pop are small, but reasonable.
Nice atmosphere. Clean and friendly staff! You can only purchase alcohol if you are a member which is $12/ year. It was pretty chilly in the theater the night we went.
Cute little theater. Seats are old and not that comfortable as a result. The angle of the seating can make it difficult to see the whole screen if an average height person is directly in front of you.
Went and saw Sister Act with my babygirl...popcorn was on point and they have a boat load of toppings. Decent bar with beer on tap and good selection of liquor.
Great little community theater. They always have different events, both live performances and movie showings so be sure to keep pass by often to see what's happening. To purchase alcohol at the concessions you do have to be a member of the theater though.
Great Venue. Tuesday movie night is best deal and time around.
Momma D's Kitchen did they thang on those Pulled Pork & Grilled Chicken Wrap. Come out to the next Indie Flea Market and get your taste of Momma D's Kitchen. Wealthy Theatre are great host
Went to a Latin Film Festival here. Free food was catered in were we mused around enjoying some eats and chatting with others. The film was wonderful. I will definitely be back.
Had a lot of fun watching Hocus Pocus with my daughters. Fun crowd, enjoyed the staff and it was nice being able to have a glass of wine while waiting. (Only members may order alcohol.)
Old time theater and new time shows. Everything is worth seeing and hearing. The venue is well restored and maintained. Fantastic place for any type of artistic expression!
Nice, quaint venue. Good sightlines and acoustics. Snack bar with a few choices. Beer and wine available with annual membership ($12 as of Sep, 2019)
We seen the Play Tuesday with Morrie, it was very moving...
Cute theater that has a variety of different events to attend, like music, live acting performances, classic movies, and films with discussion after. You also can drink beer here, which is great.
Enjoyed the movie, we will definitely be back:)
Saw a meanwhile movie ("the Big Lebowski"), fun time. And if you have a membership (as low as $12/year), you can buy a beer (or a white Russian) to enjoy whilst watching!
Great sustainability market!
Great small venue. Have seen plays, improv, music and movies here and it works well for all of those. Alcohol is tricky here as you have to be a member of their organization to purchase.
Went there for a John Prine tribute concert. It is a small historical theater in Eastown area of Grand Rapids. You can get alcoholic beverages if you are a member, orherwise just soda and popcorn.
Nice little theater. Very well kept. We were there for a music recital. Nice stage, and the sound fills the theater wonderfully.
A wonderful venue for community entertainment. Excellent sight lines and good acoustics.
The Improv of Pop Scholars improves the entertainment options for Grand Rapids considerably. Even better, it is regularly scheduled, so you have an opportunity to still catch the show.
Small stage but fantastic sound. Nice and clean
Great place to watch classic movies. The energy & atmosphere really can't be beat in a great crowd. I love it there :)
Great space for a show! Have seen River City Improv, Girls Rock GR, dance recitals, and more. Never disappoints.
Saturday is small independent crafters and food makers. Great selection of hard to find crafts. Fun people watching.
Thank you for having Maria Bamford. It was once in a lifetime experience and Maria killed it
A neat old movie theater that hosts various drama groups. We've experienced some unprofessional dealings with the ticket office that necessitated a physical visit to resolve an issue that could not be resolved over the phone.
Love visiting this theater. Pop Scholars is one of their best events. I would recommend stopping at this treasure if you can.
One of the most treasures venues in Grand Rapids. After over a year away. It's great to be back!
Love seeing the classics. And the rocky horror picture show interactive viewing is supposed to be amazeballs. Ill be there next season
A local treasure. Restored by a wealthy philanthropist and maintained by the Community Media Center, a nonprofit with the good of our town at heart. If it feels too good to be true, it is.
For me personally it is just beautiful and they are always showing great movies you can see the list on their website.I love the wealthy street theater.
I love having an opportunity to mingle and work with creatives, in an environment that's eclectic. It's like a little Oasis away from home, with some really great people associated with ASIFA-Central.
Saw Rocky Horror here tonight and it was fantastic! Great venue for crowds who like to have fun while enjoying a great film!
Fantastic food and service. Very tight eating experience as the table are very close together. Dont plan on having a private conversation. ;-)
Is a beautiful old style theater, with nice seats
Lovely old theater. I enjoyed the story of it being in a shambles to the point of being condemned and local donations saved it. Beautiful inside.
Great place for movies. Awesome old cinema with great events. Membership is affordable and allows you to have beer.
Great venue to view retro movies, unique movies or shows. Members can also enjoy a local craft beer. :)
Saw Pop Scholars perform here. Great venue. Neat detailing in the theatre. Cozy and fun.
Really enjoyed the Gobin show there..
Clean, fair prices, but not all events are put together well. If you buy tickets in advanced, don't expect to get a specific seat.
I attended Wealthy Street Theater along with some friends to see some musical entertainers it's a good time decent prices and also serves alcohol
First time visit to see Harvey Mason on December 11....enjoy the experience being there and love the music . Nice venue
Beautiful theater. Good prices, the staff is nice, and the bathrooms are always clean. Good job!
Best little vintage theater. They always have cool local events going on
Great place to catch an old classic movie on a Tuesday night! Enjoy it with a popcorn and craft beer...
Best old/indie movie theater in town. True Grand Rapids. The owners/managers have impeccable taste.
So many awesome events happening here most open to the public last saw girls rock and it's a great place to connect with people in the community.
Love going here on Tuesdays for the Meanwhile Movie series. The staff is always friendly and the theater is clean.
A really fun place to catch a matinee movie. It has that old school aesthetic that the big theater chains are really lacking these days.
A Charming old theater that's always great for special screenings and presentations!
Street parking can be a challenge however.
Great place, love their Meanwhile movie nights on Tuesdays and their community events!
Great experience, very nastolgic. You can even have a craft beer while you watch your movie.
I like the neighborhood vibe, and that they bring back classic movies such as Freddy and other wonderful classics ✌🏾. I love this place …
I saw a great concert and movie there! Can't wait to go back!
Great venue. Fantastic staff who love what they do. Show was amazing
You gotta love this classic community theater. I wish they offered more, but I can't fault them for that. I'm sure they're working on it.
Awesome venue, service, and content. Dont forget to visit Meanwhile bar down the road. Best bar in GR
Great movies on Tuesdays as a fun date night. Pretty theater with friendly staff.

BEAUTIFUL theater. Staff was super nice and accommodating. I had a wonderful time there.
Cool little theatre with some of the old timey feeling to it. Modern auxiliaries with the vintage feel to the building.
Amazing historic theater, charm all around
Great venue, friendly staff
Was just there saw awsome play Ain't Nothing Like Family my son was part of cast
Small intimate theatre. It's really cute & they have events from concerts to movies to plays!
Good venue, great sound.
The Grand Rapids Academy of Music uses the theatre for all of their recitals. It is perfect for this!
Amazing!
Great upkeep of the theater. Good shows and community outlook.

Nice place - we saw pop scholars and it was a good show.
It wad my first time there and it was good entertainment for the evening.
I loved it. Great old time place to watch movies.
Wonderful, nostalgic experience in an old theater. What fun!
Not the most comfortable seats, but a great place to watch older films with the meanwhile's film series.
The Theater is always awesome. River city improv is the best.
Its okay, we were glad to find parking in the back, the floors are very slippery in here and the seats aren't big.
It's was ok just a very eclectic place and parking is very limited
Good movies, and really good sodies. Brix sodies
Great quaint theatre with plenty of ambiance. Definitely a landmark to be experienced.
