Reviews of Annoyance Theatre & Bar
Came for an improv show. They have lots of options for shows, and they are fairly small. It’s a fun setting and the comedy is fun and clever.
Went to an improv show. Very funny. Couldn't believe the hour show was over so fast! I guess, " time does fly when you're having fun!"
Reasonably priced small food menu and nice stocked bar for drinks and apps before and after.
Great night out!
First time visiting before Thanksgiving Holiday! Loved the vibe, and the ensemble cast! Will return soon and have more time to enjoy the ambiance of the bar area....However, parking in the area is a challenge, so be careful.
The shows here are so fun and the tickets are reasonably priced! This is right off the Belmont stop too, and right in Lakeview so it’s a great location. The bar is good too! Definitely will be back.
Great experience, and the team is wonderful, will definitely be going again. Went with a group of 35 and we were all very engaged
Amazing shows. Loved Babywine. A wonderful working theater with classes as well.
Update:
Went to their NYE event and had a fantastic time.
Saw a nice weekday show with some of the best improv I've experienced live. It really changed my mind on improv, even though I was not in a super comedy mood when I came in and was worried I wouldn't be laughing. There were two great teams and they kept the energy high and created some good bits, not much of a break between but the show was only about 50 minutes. Can't even imagine what their weekend and special event shows are like!
Not bad for a evening out . Comics made me crack a smile and laugh a little . It’s worth the $8 a ticket. If your looking for a big laugh this is not the place , but keep in mind the comics were driving for Uber the night before. Nice hole in the wall place but most likely would not go back
Went for their comedy show. Wasn’t too impressed but maybe that’s just me. The crowd seemed to like the material. But I did notice that the crowd was comprised of people who were taking part in the comedy show and their friends. It seemed like there were only a few real audience members. Good atmosphere with a variety of drinks to choose from.
Newest location for the venerable Chicago improv comedy theater. Highly recommend seeing a show here for some original and irreverent comedy and experimental improv theater.
We had an amazing time at the theater, its an awesome space. We saw the group Late Night Shenanigans who won best sketch troupe in Chicago Readers best of Chicago this year. Highly recommend seeing them and the theater was great! Will definitely come back for another show.
The programming here has never disappointed me. I especially love the Last Call improv show on Fridays.
Fantastic comedy, also a great school. Highly recommend their summer intensive class as well as their shows.
The show was great, the staff was helpful and charming, and I especially loved the signage by the entrance.
Love this place for a drink with friends and comedy shows. Late Night Shenanigans is a must see! If They don’t make you laugh, you don’t have a sense of humor! Perfect for a date night!
Great shows with a super fun and relaxed atmosphere. One of the best comedy theaters in Chicago.
This is the first time I have been at this venue. The acting was incredibly intense and this play was very interactive. I met a few of the ensemble members before the play was started and they were entertaining as we met. The bar was superb with nice portions. Can't say enough about this place. Can't wait to be back!
Funny Show great environment!!!!!! Come see this show every Saturday at 10:30pm The girl who danced to Beyoncé was pretty cool.
I did The Annoyance Theatre summer intensive and I loved it. I'm very fond of the time I spent there. Also amazing shows and great drinks and food!
The food is good, the drinks are great, and the comedy is even better. Especially Late Night Shenanigans. Those guys are hilarious. If you’re looking for a laugh I highly recommend checking out the Annyoance.
Neighborhood gem. Have gone to 3 different shows here and it’s always a good time
Saw 2 local improv acts, thoroughly enjoyed it. $15 cover, very reasonable drink prices.
Saw "To Insanity & Beyond" by Late Night Shenanigans and laughed the whole time. Classic sketch comedy! The theater has an intimate atmosphere that complemented the performance. Highly recommend it!
Great experience! Cool place to meet some interesting people, bring friends or a date for a good show. There's also a bar for drinks while you wait for the improv show.
Great irreverent atmosphere and top-notch shows.
Hitchcocktails is a fantastic show. So funny every time we see it. The guy checking ids a total vibe killer. Doesn’t make eye contact, stares away from you, mask on his wrist, barely even talks to you. Super unwelcoming and not friendly.
What a cool venue! Bar is great, the theater spaces are intimate with great lighting and sound. Def see something there as soon as you can!
The Chicago gay man's chorus drag show was awesome!
Wound up seeing Steam Works the Musical without realizing what I was getting into lol. Excellent bar, great entertainment, and all around nice place to spend a Saturday night.
The theater was an awesome venue great bar highly recommend. I saw an awesome show Late Night Shenanigans “To Insanity & Beyond” laughed the whole time. highly recommend.
Great comedy venue, nice and intimate, with a lovely bar area for waiting and intermission, and a wide variety of shows on all the time.
Great theater & atmosphere. Saw Late Night Shenanigan's "To Insanity & Beyond" & had a blast. Will definitely be back.
Went to see "To Insanity and Beyond: A Late Night Shenanigans Review". It was absolutely hilarious! Had such a great time I went back again two weeks later!!
That music improv group (last night saturday 1-15 @ 10) did amazingly! Wish I caught their group name. If you ever upload video footage of the 'hagrid ride'....please let me know, so much joy i wanna share it. <3 thanksyall!
The only comedy venue where each show is always funny, for 18 years and counting. Plus, they check your covid ID so you can safely enjoy a drink at the bar pre- or post- show.
Bravo !
We attended a show on Saturday evening. Great show, great actors! Language can be salty, (not an issue for us, but consider yourself warned). Will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago.
Fun venue, a little bit of a strange layout. The bar is the focal point of the space and the theater wraps around the far end. It looks out on to Belmont which is very cool. The theaters layout is cozy, which is great but it locks you in once a show starts-you can't get up without interrupting. I would have gotten a drink before the start of I had realized it.
Chill atmosphere, tasty drinks that don't break the bank, and the employees were so nice
Great bar program for a theatre. Their shows are so much fun and there's something for everyone multiple times a week!
Cool little bar and theatre space.
Some friends and I went to see stand-up followed by an open-mic. Ended up staying for the entirety of it all. For the relatively little we spent on tickets ($5 a piece) it was some of the most fun on the cheap I've had in the city.
Drink prices seemed fairly reasonable as well.
I'll definitely plan a return next time I'm in the neighborhood.
Intimate comedy venue. Accessible, affordable and friendly
With theatres, a rating really just reflects your enjoyment of the show, and I LOVED the show!
Had a WONDERFUL time watching Let's Be Blunt comedy show along with a band there. If ya haven't seen this one, go watch it. My sis and I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Great prices on drinks too!!
This has been my favorite theatre in Chicago for over 2 years now. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing some drama and the classics once in awhile, but at the end of the week or after a rough day watching the news what is better than A+ improv and comedy? I've seen some of their musicals, many improv shows (one in particular 6 times), and taken classes here (the teachers are truly amazing). Each experience makes me fall even more in love with it. They truly care about the community they are building and their work is great. This isn't just a place where you come 5 minutes before and leave once the show is out either. Stick around and enjoy the food and the bar. They make a great everything.
Theater is very small so there are no bad seats but it is very tight. The bar is great and very reasonable. I went to the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus performance which is always fun and creative.
Fantastic first time will definitely be back
We went and saw Hitch Cocktails here, it was amazing. The whole show is improv and drinking. It’s worth a stop by. We got our tickets from hot tix so they were only $10 each. Drinks are moderately priced.
A Lill Annoyance Stand-Up Show is something you shouldn't miss! For only $5, every Saturday at around 9pm you can catch a bunch of stand-up comedians putting on hilarious shows. And after the main show, you can stick around for a chance to get up on stage to show off your comedy skills! It's a great first date experience. Before, after, or even during the show you can also get drinks from their awesome bar!
I highly recommend this venue! They also put on stage shows that will for sure have you laughing non-stop the entire evening!
My favorite place! Weird and funny.
I love the Annoyance. Besides being an awesome theatre venue, they have a fantastic bar with some good local beer and fancy drinks. Not bad for the price too. You could come here and hang out before or after an improv show, and have a rockin good time. I am a student at the Annoyance and often come here for shows and to grab a drink after class. This is a great spot to take friends and visitors too!
I like this theater and I want to support the local artists. But this is the second show we went to and it was not that funny. Not sure if I was too old for the jokes or if they weren't funny at all. Rest of the audience wasn't laughing as much either so I would think it was the later.
At the bar, there was one person standing there but apparently not allowed to take even the food orders. Even when my food was ready and I could see it, I had to really make an effort to notify them that my food was ready and they can bring it to me. And mind you I was sitting at the bar and the same person who could not take my order was just standing there and not listening to my "excuse -me"s. May be that was supposed to be the funny part of the whole experience.
Very cool venue. It's a beer and shots kind of bar. Kind staff. Clean bathrooms. Funny actors! One employee in particular who had red hair said she was an intern was particularly helpful and kind.
Good prices for drinks, fun, awesome improv that's edgy. Always something different to be seen. Don't miss Messing with A Friend featuring veteran improvisor Susan Messing in a rotating duo. Easily accessible from the Belmont L train.
Last week I had the opportunity to catch another show at the Annoyance entitled "UNCOVERED: A Lost Show Found" - it was so well done and unexpectedly different that it has stayed on my mind for the past week. Great thought and detail were put into it and I love the Annoyance Theatre for hosting the greatness that is out there.
I'll be returning to see that show again, and to see what else they have to offer. For those of you interested in seeing "UNCOVERED", it runs on Sunday nights for the next 2 weeks, and you should do your best to check it out!
Cheers and I hope this was helpful.
Love this place! Going to shows on the weekend the vibe is electric! High energy and lots of fun... they got a full on bar to catch a little buzz before the show. And speaking of the shows, they are much cheaper than some other comedy spots. Messing with friends is a staple here. Just off the lawrence red line...
This is the best place to see great comedy in Chicago. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and I find myself hanging out there long after she show Ive seen is done. LOVE this theatre!
The Bar was beautiful on the second floor and the staff was really friendly. Good drinks and munchies. The show was okay, but I had heard good things. It wasn't a loss at $8.
Great vibe. Great fun. Cool bar area. Awesome crowd and fun energy all around.
Attended a Burlesque show over a week ago and loved it so much the owner convinced us to stay after for an improv show. Loved the vibe, cast, and crowd. Will definitely be back!
Went here the other night for a free midnight show. Some people bombed and others had talent. My guess is that its mostly novices trying out their standup routine or improv skills. Yes my group did get shushed, but we were not hecklers considering the comedians relied on audience interaction. They also have a bar and a small/large stage. Highly recommend going on Thursday college nights vs the underwhelming performances and odd demographic you might see at a no cost show. Still, four stars because it was random, unusual, kinda fun, and having a free, live show beats the hell out of SportsCenter reruns you would see at a lesser bar
This theater has moved to Belmont near the red line next to the army surplus store. Their shows are amazing and the people are even better. They're x rated and dark and that's my kind of comedy. Check out skin-prov and burlesque-prov.
I'm an improviser out in Denver and after reading Improvise, I thoroughly enjoyed the theater's "screw the rules & conventions" attitude. It fits in well with what I understand to be Napier's approach to improv.
The burlesque show wasn't quite what I was expecting, most of it seemed rehearsed, not improvised, but I enjoyed it regardless. Those girls are confident AF to do solo theatrical performance, not to mention stripping down afterwards. If any of you are reading this, thanks for the show and I admire your confidence!
Only minor gripe is the server. I was one of the first people seated and she served literally everyone else in the room before me, putting in 3 separate orders without taking mine. Even when I called her over, she didn't come until after getting that round of drinks and passing them out. Being ignored irritates me, so when she finally did come, I said nevermind and watched the entire show thirsty. I'm not going to knock a star for that because it seemed like everyone else was getting good service, but that certainly seems like an area of improvement. At least go see what someone needs if they call you over, that seems pretty obvious.
This might be my favorite watering hole in Illinois. Found it due to the Hitch Cocktails performances every Friday night. Love the decor, drinks, and staff. Have been here rive or six times, and I never go out.
Three theaters and a bar owned by one of Chicago's oldest and funniest improv groups. The quality of the shows are up and down depending on which group of Annoyance students/alumni are presenting but the venue has a full bar, some eats, great HVAC. Usually crowded in the bar area, particularly on weekend nights.
Great place for a show even on a Tuesday night. Bag of bones is funny stuff :)
Hilarious comedy on par with the likes of iO theater Second City, and cheaper than both to boot! Perfect date night spot; often partners with local restaurants for additional discounts. Worth multiple visits!
Consistently welcoming and friendly place. Always a variety of shows to choose from which are mostly very well produced and fun. Great bartenders and servers to cover your for and beverage needs.
Great little bar to have a few drinks at.
Went here w my daughters bachelorette group. It was so funny and the bar staff were very attentive. The people in the show were all so good!
A stellar place to see shows, have affordable drinks, and meet inspiring people. Some the best folks in Chicago are working/frequenting this bar. Also the funniest.
Very fun place to see a comedy show. Large cast and fun skits in an intimate setting. I dont drink so I can't say much about the bar.
Drag show at the bar, improv in the theater. Two in one in the same night! We had such a fun time when we went.
The annoyanc is a cool place to hang out. The theater space is small and cozy; a little less formal/fancy than some other improv and comedy spots in the city. I took a few improv classes from the annoyance (levels I-III) and particularly loved my experience in level I with Sean. Definitely recommend him as an instructor.
Innovative and experimental comedy theatre in a warm and inviting setting. Great bar with affordable booze prices and snacks. Would highly recommend.
I saw "Shark Tank: The Musical" last Saturday and loved it! Theater and bar staff were great. Will definitely be back for another performance!
Great entertainment and affordable drinks.
Hitchcock Tails is absolutely fantastic. Other shows have been really good as well. The bar is fine, maybe a little pricey, but fine.
Very chill comedy venue. Good drink selection and attentive bartenders.
Ive taken 3 classes here and they were taught by some of the funniest improvisers in the city and they are all dedicated and inspiring. The shows are hilarious as well if you are looking for edgier, less-censored comedy than Second City.
This place is so great. Some of the best up-and-coming talent Chicago has to offer.
5 stars for a killer bar and shows. Some shows are less "mainstream " as they allow people to take chances. This is not "who's line is it anyways." You want that go check out comedy sports.
Saw a smaller show there. Supported a friend's friend, but everything was fun and amazing. Highly recommend. The bar is just as fun too
If you like expressive people expressing themselves expressively, head here expressly.
The people and staff are all awesome.. I received a free drink just for fun... I had a great time and I met new fun people. Is a great place to drink, laugh and laugh..
Last minute idea for a night out for the hubby and I and it was awesome! Lots of laughs, great entertainment and good drinks! Definitely a repeat place!
Seen several shows there. Never disappoints. Comfortable chairs. The front house bar is also comfortable and holidays several weekly events
Great show. Saw Shark tank the musical. The McDonald's bit was my favorite. Will definitely be back
The burlesque show here is by far the sexiest thing in town. Not only is it hilarious but it is hottttttt. THey have great affordable shows. They even have a bar!!!!
Great place for casual comedy & improv! They also have a great bar to hang out before/after a show
In-your-face and no-holds-barred improv. Some of the dirtiest and most unapologetic fun to be had around. Tuesday nights are definitely the best of the local scene.
Great shows, friendly bar staff and lots of smiles and laughter! Lakeview is lucky to have a great place like this in the neighborhood.
one of the best drag race viewings in the city 💖 come for the community and VH1 subscription, stay for the incredible queens who never fail to stunt + stun. …
Messing with a Friend is hilarious! You can get an awesome show here for very little coin as opposed to other places which might ream you out of +$20. Cheap beer too!
Good bar and prices. Just bar finger food and none on Mondays. Great shows every night with a student jam on Mondays.
Fantastic, experimental, raunchy, and rambunctious improvised and scripted theater. Good drinks and food from the bar and very friendly staff.
Saw a play at this bar directed by a friend of mine. It was ok, funny. The owner is very friendly and kind too. I got to eat and drink while i watched the play.
Everything you can ask for? Hilarious shows. Great bar. Its filled with the most delightful people, and you can get a panini.
Amazing theater, loved the environment and the people. You can tell the place is run by artists and the passion they put in it is evident!
I like the place, the show I saw was okay...but improv isn't always winner what can i say. I definitely recommend you try it but chose your show accordingly.
Talented and lovely comedians put on some of the best shows I've seen in Chicago. Definitely worth a visit!
The place could be jam packed but the High ceilings and quick service you never really notice. Good place to "Drink your life away" lol
Great shows, friendly staff, fun bar at reasonable prices.
Caught a variety show with music and comedy thrown in. Very entertaining. Great hangout spot at the bar before and after
Great place, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and the actors were awesome. Overall a great time.

I Went here to see a comedy burlesque show! Nice bar setup and great shows.
Great drinks, friendly staff and amazing talented people combine to create a great time no matter what the occasion!
Going from second city to IO to the annoyance was the best. Annoyance is by far my favorite. To hang, to drink, to take classes and to perform at.
I laughed my butt off! I watched the Matt Damon improv. Those guys are quick witted. I'm still laughing at the scenes.
I want one of these in my city! Had a fun time seeing a couple of the shows, and talking with the owner and other performers.
We had a great time here at the Hitchcock show. Genuinely funny and fun!
Fun little theater with a nice vibe and full bar. Right next to a red line stop-- super easy to get to.
Love most of the shows here. The sketch especially is hilarious. Splatter Theater...not so much.
Good place to see improv. Bar area was accommodating and the performance area was also nice.
Saw the HitchCocktails show it was a delightful and entertaining show from start to finish. Can't recommend it enough
Awesome space, great shows, decent drink prices especially for this area. LOVE ANNOYANCE!!!!
Pretty good. Decent bar in the theatre, but beer selection is on the weak side.
Some shows are good, others experimental and hit or miss but good to check out anyway... Wait staff... Not really on the ball
Great shows, great drinks, great atmosphere. Must see Super Human on Thursdays.
Amazing shows, good bar food, and great drinks. See a show or just hang out at the bar.
Watched the burlesque show! It was amazing! Sexy and funny. It was truly a great time.
I love this place. Had to see them one last time in this location. Looking forward to the new digs at Belmont and Clark.
Great for experimental comedy shows. A lively bar before shows and on the weekends.
Never been here before. Would go again. Awesome show.
I got a double greyhound for ten bucks, the comedy was funny, and show tickets only a tiny bit pricey. A+
