Reviews of Orpheum Theatre
Madeline Murphy
The show at the Orpheum Theater was well organized. Security was set up outside the theater, and this was quick and easy. The staff was extremely helpful and we quickly found our seats. Although it's not stadium seating the seats are at a slant so that viewing was good even with people sitting in front of us. It is a beautiful old theater. The major con was the seats. They were narrow to sit in but also, I am a short person and my knees touched the back of the seat in front of me. Overall, it was a fun evening and I would go there again.

A classic Boston venue, but definitely shows it’s age. The best shows to see here are proper stage shows, since it’s a seated venue. For the Porter Robinson show I went to, it was a strange fit for a show that would normally be at a venue like the House of Blues with an open floor to dance. Still, it was a convenient entry experience, easy to get to your seat with helpful staff, and short drink list that’s pretty basic. The show was amazing, the sound quality was great, and the stage and lighting was impeccable. Not a perfect venue given a modern context, but still well equipped to deliver a great show.

It’s a lovely venue, but it could use a few upgrades here and there! All the employees I came in contact with were extremely helpful. (The photos are from Dodie’s show 😁) …

I attended a Mark Knopfler concert at the Orpheum a few years back and still recall this place as one of the best venues to listen to a concert. Yes, the theatre is old but there’s a nostalgic sense about it that makes it very special. I shall never forget this place.

So I’m here right now for the Dr. Jordan Peterson lecture.
Long line in the cold. 👎
Utter disarray at the ticketing table. 👎
The building heat seems to be non-functional. 👎
Beautiful architecture. 👍
A crowd of normal looking people! 👍
Kenny the videographer was so kind to us, and we promised him secrecy to the act of kindness that he did. 👍
So it’s a draw, three 👎 and three 👍.
The tie breaker that gives it a full five stars is that my pickles tasted good. 😊
Chloe Anderson
Pretty cool theatre. Nice opera seating and can see the stage from any angle. Beautiful display of lights at this theater. Absolutely stunning performance.

Security was rude and unintelligent and very contradictory about their directions - creating alot of issue with customers. The usher Staff didn't seem to know where to seat people as we were asked to move multiple times. The ushers were very friendly. It just seems that there needs to be some retraining or more attention to numbering seats properly.. which brings me to my next point.. the seats are too close together and there's 0 leg room. I understand trying to keep the integrity of the beyond beautifully gorgeous venue but the seats need to be reupholstered and spread out just a tiny bit more. I get money needs to be made but comfort should be priority in my mind for a good show. The venue was beautiful. The drinks were reasonably priced for a venue. The sound was great but a couple small tweaks can really bring this gorgeous venue to another level.

Met John today , he works here and gave me a lot of knowledge about the orpheum theater!
He's really ~ Friendly & Respectful

Row E, Seat 1 view. Very nice. Great sound. The seats were comfortable too.
Joan Cavacco
Last balcony seats with people standing in front of us made it difficult to enjoy. Will miss a show rather than be stuck up there again. Beer options and sizes could be better. Bathroom ok
Emily Morrissey
Wonderful little place for a concert. We saw Bret Eldredge's Christmas concert. It was very easy to see and hear him the entire time!
Chuck Paone
The Orpheum is the grand old dame of Boston theaters, her age shows. Seats are small, little legroom. The staff is wonderful and was accommodating in finding alternate seating, so ask if you are tall.
Great sight lines and sound. The concert by Bill Murray was wonderful. Seeing a living icon, simply amazing.
Al Jones
Definitely one of the coolest venues I've been to a show at. The acoustics are perfect; I could hear every word and every instrument that was being played. I absolutely love how they haven't done any major renovation to the inside. I imagine that how it looks now is how it looked since around the 70s and that is totally a good thing. The art on the ceiling and walls is also very appealing. 100% recommend seeing a show or concert here.
Kamilla Parker
The show was great, the venue was lousy. It's in the cut. The venue is in need of a good deep cleaning. Really why it gets a 3 rating is the space. I don't want to be thinking of how I'm getting indentations on my legs during a show. It was actually painful. I am only 5'9 and there were many men taller than I am and I can't imagine how uncomfortable they were.
Josh Soto
Orpheum Theatre has a great ambiance, a great vibe and a great energy. The building almost cultivates an energy in anticipation of performance and it carries through to the final curtain. However the seating is absolutely dreadful. Seats are quite low and not very wide. If you're above average height, your knees will be pressed against the seat in front of you for the duration of the show. At the concert I attended most people got around this by standing up, myself included, which is fine but also not ideal. However, if your favorite band is in town don't skip seeing them! You'll have a great time nonetheless.
Amanda Stone
gorgeous! can’t speak to the comfort of the seats because we stood the whole time, but there are no cup holders attached to the seat or those in front of you. beautiful inside, limited bar so don’t expect mixed drinks.
Peter Googins
Being 6’8”, the size of a Left Tackle, the seats of the Orpheus Theatre are not designed for anyone bigger than the average American 30-40 years ago. I recognized it would be very painful for me to sit more than 30 minutes and more importantly it would make the other 5-6 around me less than pleasurable. Fortunately I was able to speak to Celeste and she was able to allow me to be in an area where I would be comfortable. I will recommend the Orpheus Theatre to shorter, smaller friends in the future, but will have to pick my seats more wisely in the future if I ever attend again. Thank you for understanding my problem and accommodating it with amazing customer service.
Jennifer “jlo” Lopez
Went to see Camila Cabello, concert was amazing !!! Venue ehhhh its intimate so i guess no matter where you sit as long as you don't have tall people in front of you everywhere you sit is a decent View. The venue is old and obviously not very well maintained. But you are not paying a large amount for tickets to see artist at this location. I would definitely not wear your Sunday Best to come to a concert here wear jeans and closed-toe shoes
Melissa Castor
It's a beautiful old theater but desperately needs modern updates. The seats are so crammed in and small and falling apart. Sound quality is nice and you have a great view from anywhere!
Edmund Rogers
Located on an easy to miss side street right off of Tremont St the Orpheum is centrally located to all the main attractions. Shopping, Boston Common, The Freedom Trail and Beacon Hill are all well within comfortable walking distance for anybody. The theatre itself isn't much to talk about. It's a gathering place for concerts and such and that's about it. While ornate, the inside is in great need of an all over "polishing". Don't get me wrong, it's not dirty it's just old and unkempt. A little "facelift" and this place would be beautiful. The bathrooms ARE clean. The seating is more than cramped. There's less room than in economy class on the cheapest flight. You're bound to rub elbows with any and everyone around you and I'm 100% sure your @ss will be quite sore if you have to sit for more than 1.5 hours (we had a 3 hour concert...ugh!) So if you are going to see a show bring a cushion. Our concert (Dream Theatre) let out around 10:30-11:00p and the area was well lit and not once did we feel unsafe so that's a plus too.
Eric Manzi
Cute little theater! There can be a MASSIVE line getting in so leave enough time to get to your seat if you want to see the start of your show. Seats are kind of old and uncomfortable so something to think about if you have back problems.
Rob P
Great acoustics and super friendly staff. Facility is dated and could use some updating but considering you got there for concerts not really much of a negative. Will definitely be on the lookout for other shows here in the future.
Bill
The show was awesome. The seats havnt been updated since the place was built. Super uncomfortable. Its 2022 keep the nostalgia update the comfort.
Carla Wheeler
Wardruna at The Orpheum was excellent. They are amazing. The sound was excellent. Lighting, everything. Seats could use updating.
Kurt Federow
Great place to see a concert though seats a bit worn and plave looks dated inside - bathroom decent and good beer options along with drunken pizza
Madison Clapp
Beautiful theater! Easily the most friendly staff I've encountered at a concert, and also the most organized. The location is perfect, as a lot of concert venues in Boston don't have much room outside room for waiting, but this one has plenty since it sits back off from the street quite a bit and is in its own little alcove. Will definitely be back again!
Adam
Needs to be renovated, entire place is in extremely rough shape. My biggest complaint is the lack of bathrooms, plan on standing in really long lines and not being able to watch your hands.
Anthony Soto
I just saw Kip Moore last night.. the acoustics are amazing, tons of history, parking was a breeze (there common) and the staff was very helpful. It is tough for tall guys with the old seating, I'm 6'3, but indeed Kip came on I didn't sit again.
Would definitely come see a performance here again!
Kelly W
Great location for a venue. Beautiful theater but DAAAAMN it gets hot up in there- even in February! Cool place...pretty ceiling- quintessential Boston. Highly recommend!

The Orpheum Theater is a shell of its former glory, as one of the oldest theaters in the US. It is in serious need of some renovation and TLC. My SO and I came here to see Moscow Ballet's touring Great Russian Nutcracker performance earlier this month. The location is very convenient just steps away from the Park St. T station and getting inside to pick up tickets from will call was a breeze. The inside was unfortunately extremely underwhelming as the dim lights illuminated some of the food concession. On the plus side they actually had pizza and other food items unlike the Wang Theater that had these pitiful pretzels. (Probably because it's connected with the Corner Mall concessions.)
There's 2 levels of seating, we were at the main level and I saw several people were in the balcony. The chairs themselves were very low to the ground and in every aspect show signs that they were from another era. Acoustically the theater was suitable for the ballet, the performance music was pre-recorded so we didn't see a live orchestra. (We sat almost center in the first cluster of seats.) I think it serves its purpose for the current performances here, but it's definitely not the dazzling interior you'd expect from the Boston Opera house or the Wang Theater. It's a shame that they haven't upkeep the theater for all of the rich history that it holds. It has the potential to be a great theater again.
Samuel Tauil
Great place, chairs are a bit old but that’s part of the charm
Ramone Clahar
Went to see one of my favorite groups, Elevation Worship, was disappointed with the venue, seating felt tight, room was humid, and acoustics weren't quite where they needed to be. But they put on a decent show though.
Elena Cañadas
I came here last night for Dream Theater concert. It is a beautiful place, sounds wasn't bad but neither great. Seats are confortable and good visivibility of the stage even from the balcony area.
Steve Singer
Hot as can be inside but so were the Doobie Brothers. Great show. Happy 50th to the band. Awesome.
Angela Gray
Took my husband to see Letterkenny live as his first outing post a severely broken leg. Called ahead and staff were amazing about making the experience of navigating attending in a wheelchair easy. Great venue where every seat is good with an intimate feel.
Danforth N
Decent venue, sight lines from rear orchestra were solid except for when other people stood up in front of me. Even with only a 50-60% capacity audience, the lobby/stairs were very very crowded. But extra points for being very convenient to Park Street mbta station
Sam Feinsilver
Balcony view was great, sound was balanced and clear, but loud. Seats were comfortable, but there was very little leg room, even less than an airplane. I'm 5'10" and couldn't sit normally with feet straight ahead. The venue seats 2700.
seintmike
Beautiful theatre. Archaic system for seating. Archaic seats. Zero ventilation. Go here in the colder weather and you are all set to have a great time during a great performance.
Nick Minarik
As others have mentioned, this theater is a little dated in terms of... everything. Except sound! If you're here for a concert, the sound quality is really excellent. Since I haven't been here for a play or other seated event, I can't really say how that would be, but I do know that the 30 minutes I was sitting between sets were not comfortable on these seats.
One thing I've never experienced before is that the entire mezzanine level actually bounced. I know that structurally it's good to have a little give, but I have never felt the floor ANYWHERE bounce to the rhythm of a song that people weren't even really jumping hard to. But hey, the mezzanine survived the whole show (was a little worried it wouldn't make it through the encore), so maybe the people who built this place knew what they were doing!
Pam Ricci
Excellent venue. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that there is no leg room at all in the seats. We sat in the balcony, not sure if that matters, but I'm only 5' 7" and I actually had bruises on the side of my knee. I suggest you try for the front rows of the sections if you sit there. Other than that the place was great, sound was awesome and staff was friendly. Check it out for a show!
Rosemarie S.
Great place to see a concert!
edward leyland
Nice venue saw Tom Jones and loved it! Only reason not 5 stars no air conditioning hot as hadees
todd trudeau
Second time going here, love the old charm of the theater and what it was like to go to the theater back in the olden times. Went and saw Marina.
Ryan Hwang
Staff and security were super kind! Venue was very intimate and well maintained despite the fact that it’s very old
James Turner
I brought my kids to the Orpheum Theatre in Boston and it was amazing! My kids and I watched a youtuber named "DanTDM" and it was pretty fun! The theatre is really nice, it was pretty small, but that never bothered me. We sat on the balcony level (as seen in pictures)
Phili Bonyo
Visited the Orpheum for the first time for the Dr. Jordan Peterson 12 More Rules for Life book tour. The lecture was great as expected and environment fairly lively.
My concerns:
1. Due to Covid-19’s restrictions and poor planning on the venues end I suppose, we stood in line (+in the cold )for about 45 minutes to an hour.
2. I sat in the Balcony area and I was pretty disgusted as to how filthy the floor and seats were. It was infuriating given the fairly hefty price of tickets 🙄
Sonia Miller
Great venue, but heaven help you if you're any kind of tall! You will be sitting with your knees to your chin!
Erik Mattern
If you sit in the back on the 1st floor the acoustics aren't great, I would recommend balcony seats. This venue has very good performances. However the seats are very old and need to be replaced.
Duncan MacLeod
Saw a metal show and the lighting was amazing. Sound was a bit overblown at times, and the place gets HOT, but it was a great experience.
Jesse Kim
Classic spot. Well stocked concessions with quick lines, and friendly employees throughout. Could use some new seating, however.
Buzzton
Had a unique experience ! Excellent music! 160 years old theatre. But needs improvement in air conditioning
jsplittgerber
The location was easy to find, staff was friendly, seats were small, music was fantastic Be sure to check out Dustin Thomas, what a great artist and of course John Butler always at his best.
Ricardo Herdy
The chairs até too small. But overall, a good experience.
Samantha Marie
Incredible venue, easy to get to, love this place!!
Tod DuArt
Saw Tedeschi Trucks here, great sound. Great old building.1852! Could use a serious remodel but, great none the less. Great staff too. My wife lost her phone and the stuff found it!
Dan D
As stated by everyone, classic spot but very much showing its age. Seats way too small for comfort, even for an average sized person (i cant imagine they weren't considered tight even back in 1620, or whenever they made this place. Staff over-agressive about showing you to your seat (SIT! STAY!) A needed & cheap & easy improvement would be to put little plastic number thingees on each seat. Drinks insanely expensive, but it's boston. Mask up sheeple!
Kelly Donnelly
Amazing. ♡
Louis Carmine
Great acoustics but tight seats
Michael Currie
One of my favorite places to see a show in Boston. They are a bit rough about taking pictures, but otherwise very accommodating. Good beer selection!
Steve Smith
I'm sure they're very good to all of their guests but please believe me when I tell you that they give extra love to those of us with disabilities, special needs etc.
I was there on the evening of October 29th for a Steely Dan show and I was very well taken care of when I arrived to be seated. They treated me like I was the only one in the place.
Big ^ups^ to Celeste for making sure I had a seat that was a great vantage point from which to see what turned out to be a fantastic show.
nathan bailey
Amazing venue and acoustics, will definitely be seeking out more concerts here
Ed Doucette
This theater has excellent sound, saw Steely Dan here recently and last night was Styx. Excellent concert, staff was incredible. Only gripe I have sitting in the fifth row was the size of the seats and the legroom. Didn't much matter because we're standing up for the whole concert anyways. just be aware if you're a tall guy like me, 6' 3", hope that you have somebody small next to you.
silverlake girl
Great venue! Acoustics were amazing!
Laura N
Nice venue. The location is awesome and the place has fantastic acoustics. The seats are a bit tight and not too comfy, but that's to be expected with an old theatre. The staff were slightly overbearing. The lobby is very small, so entering and exiting were annoying. However, it's overall a good place to see a show.
Patrick Mattson
The seats are way too small. Snow Patrol was good though.
Jacqueline Ruff
This building is beautiful but I wasn't a fan of the seating. I understand it is an old building but some things need to be updated, like the seating. Or how cold it got inside the theater. We wore our winter jackets almost the entire time because it was so cold and we were squeezed into the tiniest and tightest seats ever! All the staff were great and there were no service issues, just really not pleased with the seating and temperature.
John Fortes
Pretty good place to see a speaker, concert, and/or show... However, please be aware that there is no AC in the building on hot days.
Eddie Porter
Great concert, Trumbone Shorty was great. I can't wait until he comes back, but venue needs to be updated!
Rachel Berls
The sound in the theater was great and the theater was very easy to get to with plenty of parking garages nearby. The biggest downside were the seats. The rows were so close together leaving no leg room and every time I sat down, I felt like the seat was going to break. When I went in November, it was freezing inside the theater. I had to wear my winter coat throughout the entire concert. Overall, I had a good experience, but the seats really should be renovated or updated!
Joshua Peters (Woadsly)
Fantastic venue. Just a little to hot with no circulating air
Mohammed Alghool
Great theater and part of Boston's history! I was there for the UFC weighing event, and had great time.
Jeff Laurenza
Great venue for any kind of entertainment. It's smaller than many similar venues. So you are close to the stage. Balcony seats are all great. No obstructed views. No parking there so you need to use public parking which within walking distance.
Melanie Koulouris
Alessia Cara.
Mezzanine row A!
Awesome Seats!
Lael_Da
Always an amazing experience here. The staff keep things smooth, and the atmosphere is nice.
Deanna
Gorgeous venue. Our bums fit in the small seats, no problem!
Alex Cabral
This theater is pretty bad. The seats are very small and cramped, even for a 5'4" person. It's nearly impossible to find your seat without an usher, so the ushers are constantly running around and pushing through with their flashlights on. There are a lot of different bars in the venue and the sound was good, but I would only come back if it was for a band I really like
George Munoz
Excellent personable affordable venue to see your favorite act. All seats offer excellent stage visibility.
Mary Shannon
Sound quality in the orchestra section under the balcony is muddy (due to poor acoustics). Everytime I've been, it's been uncomfortable from a temperature perspective. The layout is tricky - narrow stairs and not enough doors. The bookings are great, and the venue has character for sure. But it's not great.
john mazzotta
Saw Marina there excellent show place was rocking balcony was actually moving I could feel my feet shifting little scary but fun overall
Linda Diraffaele
First time I've been here, seating was very tight, somewhat uncomfortable. First concert in the venue, not knowing what to expect would have worn more comfy shoes. Patrons in front of me stood for the majority of the time.
Susan Morton
Needs to be updated. Seats are not suitable for anyone taller than 5'6 and were very soiled. The staff was great at seat locating and were personable. Bathrooms are clean, but not enough for size of facility.
Maddie Conway O'Reilly
Had a good experience at the Orpheum for a concert and really appreciated that there was seating everywhere. The lobby was completely packed and very difficult to navigate when we first arrived- it seems like it's not really equipped to hold an entire crowd when the doors have opened but you can't yet be seated. Since it is seated, a plus is that you don't need to arrive super early. We sat in the balcony in maybe the third row back and had excellent views. Sound was great. I would come back here for another show.
Benjamin Lilyestrom
I’ve seen many different concerts and performances here. The venue is a classic old style theatre and I is beautiful. With that comes some trade offs, like low ceilings and tighter seats, but it’s not a big deal.
Caitlin M
It's a beautiful old theater, but the rows are packed so close together - I'm short, and my knees were pressed up against the seat in front of me. Plus the entire balcony began shaking in an alarming way during one song when the audience was standing up and clapping along.
Lacey Mallett
This theater is beautiful, so glad I went. I will say, tall people beware, it was clearly built a long time ago because there is very little leg room but don't let it deter you from checking out a show here!
Elizabeth O
I went for a James Bay concert and sat in the mezzanine. Great acoustics. Seats were fine for me but I am only 5'2. It is easily accessible by the park street T stop. All in all, I will be back.
Jim Magary
Saw Neutral Milk Hotel there. It's cramped and hot, a very old theater in need of renovation. If you have good seats, the stage is nice and large and the band would sound better from the first level. I enjoyed the show from the upper balcony, but would reconsider getting seats up there again.
Maurice Dupree
I went here for the first time to check out Louis C.K.. The orpheum is ok but they need to renovate this place. The section I sat in was really tight making it uncomfortable when sitting down for over an hour.
Christopher Wilford
Theater is beautiful and kept well enough! Seats numbers were nearly impossible to read, but the ushers were helpful and super nice! Not overly comfortable seats, but spacious enough not to be crumpled in.
Jake Harvey
Great venue. Every seat sounds good. They get great acts regularly. Not too big, not too small. I have had a great time at every show I've ever been to at the orpheum.
Aaron Zemetres
Nice venue, very old and hectic layout. Can be confusing to find your seat during larger shows, luckily the staff is friendly and can assist you. Nice location near downtown crossing (3 minute walk). If you want to buy merch I suggest you do it before the show or wait until everyone leaves, the crowds funnel toward the exit make exiting a slow process.
Sound levels vary between loud to obnoxiously loud. Bring ear buds.
Regal Randy
went to a kevin gates concert b4 cov, was great. everyone was having a good time. joyner lucas made a surprise appearance and dapped up the middle row. ton of excitement and energy
Michael Kilburn
Beautiful old theater, great acoustics. Unfortunately many people have problems with the seats themselves, the theater was built in the mid 1800s when people were much thinner and the average modern fat-assed american cannot fit in these seats. But if they made the seats wide enough to fit the average fat ass they'd lose more than half of the current seating capacity.
If you go here be prepared to be sat on by some lard ass that should have bought 3 seats.
Wayne Lessard
Nice place! First time for me. It was packed for the Styx concert!
Celtics Fan
The good: great location in theatre district, surrounded by great restaurants and night life. A lot of popular acts play there. I have a lot of great memories there but....the bad is bad. The seats, floor and bathrooms are dirty. The view in most places is poor, beer is expensive and lines are long. Ticket prices are high to sit in dirty chairs. The crowd there tends to be snooty to. I hope they remodel and find a solution to long bathroom and beet lines.
Molly Cook
Saw Yes there October 4th. Just a block from the downtown crossing pedestrian mall which is really nice. Sound quality was great, beautiful old place. But it was brutally hot! I could tell the AC was trying, every now and then it would be bearable. But then back to brutal. Not sure it's fixable without tearing out all the beautiful ceiling and trim, so be forewarned. The heat definitely lessened my enjoyment of the concert.
JF Sullivan
The old lady never fails to let me down. It's a good venue to see shows however it's very uncomfortable to sit through. You think with all the renovations they've done they at least would make the seats bearably comfortable
Ben Flisher
The old time theater feel and the cool location are what make this place bearable. Otherwise it's crowded with cramped dirty old seats and the sound is poor quality. The concert I attended was dangerously loud under the balcony.
Charles Harris
Great place. Not so much of a secret anymore! If you want to see great acts with an intimate setting, you can't beat this place!! I've seen Robin Trower numerous times, Warren Haynes (the Last Waltz), Brit Floyd and Ray Davies just to name drop a few.
Maria Lomax
Beautiful theater. Amazing acoustics. Be prepared to find parking.
Simon
Beautiful and cozy theatre. Went there to see Julien Baker live. Only downside was once the concert ended they played really loud, aggressive music on the speakers which was a jarring to hear after the mellow, reflective music I was listening to live for the hours prior.
Jonathan Suh
Went to a Bethel Music concert at this venue. Staff was friendly, organized, and seemed to know what they were doing. The sound was clear and good. It was slightly hot inside, but that is to be expected. Overall, very pleasant experience at the theater.
Theresa Tanner
I saw concerts featuring White Snake, The Scorpions, Elvis Costello and a very entertaining show by Alice Cooper on one Halloween Eve at the Orpheum. The seats were narrow and old. There was little room to sit or stand comfortably. But bearing with poor accommodations to experience top bands made each visit worth it.
Elizabeth W.
I recently went to a concert at the Orpheum Theater. The venue was small -- which I enjoyed. Even in the back rows, we were still close enough to the stage to really enjoy it. The seats were a little older than some of the newer venues in Boston, but over all it was a great experience. I would definitely see a show at the Orpheum again.
Austin Stewart
Not my favorite music venue but not too bad. It's almost always way warmer inside than you would expect so be prepared to sweat no matter what time of year.
Ann Valli
Nice concert venue..small enough that any seat is a great seat
M C
Great intimate venue. Try to get seats on the first floor as they are more comfortable and, um, wider. I'm a large guy and recently got stuck in Center balcony and was squished into my seat with knees stuck against the chair in front of me.
Maria Yuanita
It's a beautiful theatre. I was there to watch Maxwell's concert. Unfortunately, the acoustic isn't that good for such performance. I barely heard the vocal, since the room makes the sound of the bass and the drum too overpowering.
Rebecca Flynn
Gorgeous old theatre with great sound....big enough but still feels intimate. Just wish they had an elevator, as our seats were in the balcony and it was a major climb!
Andrew Brown
So it's almost as bad as everyone else on here is saying. The seats are old and fairly uncomfortable if you have longer legs. If the ticket claims that it has an obstructed view, you truly may not see anything so be wary of that, but the saving grace was how great the sound was.
Jamie Partridge
Such a beautiful theater; easily accessible via public transportation and for individuals using assistive technology.
While the seats are a little uncomfortable and tightly spaced, there is seating available for individuals who utilize assistive technology. The theater itself is beautiful and worth a visit.
Carla Wheeler
Seats need updating! Sounds amazing!
tom oconnor
Went to see Sturgill Simpson play on 10/09/2016. Really enjoyed the show and I found the staff to be very helpful. I will say that it is an old venue and the seating is not as comfortable as I would like, as I am tall. I also found it to be fairly warm up in the balcony section, but I have come to expect that in many of the older venues. Overall the Orpheum is a greatplace for music .Finally I did notethat the bathrooms are well maintained and plentiful compared to some of the places I have been to catch a show .
Daniel Labrecque
Nice old venues for intimate show experiences but with all old theaters, seating is a bit cramped.
Will Leitch
Classic old venue. We have some good acts here like Joe Satriani, Gov't Mule and others, The theater could use a face lift, some might say, but I like its charm. Sound is good. Audiences have been enthusiastic for the shows we have been to. Beer and wine are priced outlandishly.
M Demetriou
The sound was awesome! And the theatre is nice. But believe the other reviews: these seats are TIGHT. You'll survive, though, and it's worth it.
Kevin Michalski
The concert was fine but you won't fit in the seats unless you're a small person. It also got hot on the balcony so don't wear lots of layers.
Jesse Owen
Quaint and charming old theater. This place has definitely seen its share of moments. The chairs could definitely use some renovating, as could the ceiling, the stage, the stairs, etc. But it's super charming.
Jason Michaud
Very nice historical building in town. Very easy to get to from the T. I hope that I can get to go there again for a concert.
Karla Paxton
Fantastic venue for a concert, small and great acoustic.
Oma Babalola
Was here to see Maxwell. Beautiful theatre but the seating was not the greatest, pretty awkward and unfortunately the sound was also awful. Maxwell did his thing. Definitely want to see him in concert again hoping the sounds better next time.
lesley stones
Went to a concert here. Lovely old venue, but the seats are small, cramped and threadbare, and the bar prices are high. Very friendly ticket checkers and ushers though. (And the concert was fab!)
Chris
One of the best I've been too. Place looks amazing, has quite a bit of charm. They get great acts and the place is a good size to really enjoy the show.
Pat Warrren
It was ok. Seating terrible. Could not see stage. 😥 Concert by Elevation whorship was amazaing. We were worshipping together as three generations! Praise God the Spirit filled the theater and we did not focus on the theater seating and sound. …
Sean
We love the venue, but it has fallen into disrepair. Very dirty now. Way too many people to help find your seat, but no one to clean the seats or aisles. Still a landmark.
liz y
Marble barrier obstructed our view unfortunately.
Cynthia Ladd
Fun concert at The Orpheum Theatre, Boston . Nick Mason .. great theatre
Erik Oppenneer
This historic theatre has served many purposes over the years and hosted many performers since it's début in 1852. Though it was renovated in 2009, it has been well used since and needs help, it feels run down and could use some TLC.
Gary
Girlfriend went here for the Niall Horan Concert last weekend.
Travel:
I drove in, and the drive is two turns off the highway. Not terrible. As far as Boston venues go.
If you want to train in, it's less than a minute walk from the Red Line stop at Park Street.
Atmosphere:
This is a small enough theater that even the nosebleeds aren't bad seats. The seats themselves are a little small, but that's the cost of fitting seats in an old Boston building. The theater provides food, drinks, and merchandise for the show.
Christine Cortese
I understand that this an older theatre, but the owners really need to update the facility. Painting, and new seats! We are a much larger population than when the theatre was built.
KiraBagheera *
Such a cool place went to see Melanie Martinez there omg
Alex Avitabile
Need 6 more inches of legroom somewhere and its an even better venue. Long legged people suffer.
Other then that, its a great place to see a concert.
Judi McCabe
Snow Patrol played the Orpheum Theatre Monday April 29, 2019. Awesome show!! Ryan McMullan (sp?) Opened the show, he was great. We Are Scientists followed with a fantastic performance. The crowd stood up when Snow Patrol took the stage and never sat down. Awesome!!!
Jessica Purdon
The staff is top notch! The theater is beautiful and a great place to see a show. The only drawback is that the seats are a bit cramped (it is an old theater)
Eric Olsen
Very small and dated venue. The entire place needs new seats, new carpeting everything. But the Yandel & Plan B concert was awesome!
Tim Knight
Sound is poor here, the seats old and uncomfortable, bit a classic must visit place for bands like Brit Floyd
Jim Dorman
The Orpheum is an old theater that is cramped and run down, but I'm glad it's still there. You can sit in the last row and still feel like you saw your favorite band up close and personal.
Spud Resnick
Despite tight seats it's a lovely old venue, one of the oldest in america now. Built in 1852... Nice clean bathrooms! ♥️
Jose Candelario Hernandez Salazar
Such a beatiful place. I went to see Avril Lavigne and i had an amazing experiencia.
Courtney Gioncardi
Beautiful entertainment place! It looked like an orchestra (Kevin Gates Concert) on 10/22 best music show I've ever been too!!
Deb Fate-Mental
Really cool architecture. Keep in mind it's old, like Fenway, so tiny (velvet!) seats. And it's a bit stuffy. Staff was great. Would see a show there again.
Mark White
The Orpheum is a classic theater, good acoustics, beautiful architectural design and details, no bad seats in the house, but the seats themselves much like all of the theater are in need of repairs and renovations
Kellie Z
This is a great place for Boston to have shows I have seen a lot of comedians perform here it is a great venue very cool looking it is just hard to get to it is in the heart of the Theater District so parking is a little bit tricky and it is right on Boston Commons a great area in the summer a tricky area in the winter because you have to walk far to find your car but it's definitely worth the night out another problem is the rush to the restroom during intermission the line it is unbelievable but I guess it's going to be like that anywhere I still really like this place
Patricia McCord
Such a historic beautiful place!!
Ross Bretherton
Beautiful venue but aging and could really use a remodel. Seats are a bit cramped and squeaky. Still a mainstay for seated concerts.
Cris Merino
There's always great memories to be made at this place!
Morla The Ancient One
Wonderful acoustics. Can't wait to be back & see Tori Amos again
1BoardwalkAngel Forever a.k.a. Angel
Saw Tedeschi Trucks Band in concert. Theater was built in the 1890s seating space is not the best with a lot of crowding (people were smaller then? I'm only 5' tall weighing 115 lbs and I just fit the seat. Unfortunately two football fullbacks were seated directly in front of us, and the theater has no amenities for large viewing screens so it was difficult to see the band although the acoustics were good. It was freezing inside the theater as it was winter and very cold outside. Apparently they've never updated the heating system either. It was a great concert, but I'd definitely choose another venue to see TTB again like The Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion which they play every summer and it's closer. Every seat in the "clamshell" is great there.
Patricia DeVries
Best experience ever. Went to a concert with my sister that uses a wheel chair and they were amazing with her. A lady named Celeste was awesome!!!
Patricia
Very small so its easier to see the stage si if there is someone your wanting to see perform then u will love this place
mike nault (drumnunaut)
Dream Theater Was Great. The venue was old but its history that makes this place thrive! Imagine all the acts that this place has seen since it was built...crazy thought!..A MUST GO TO AND SEE!! Even from the outside..Its amazing!..
Dana LaCerais
Cool place. Balcony is a little scary, kinda feels like its going to fall. And smelled like piss. But honestly it was the right atmosphere for the show we went to.
Keith Evans
Seats are a bit uncomfortable, but it's a fantastically old building. Besides, the show was great so we weren't sitting much.
Robert Doyle
Older theater. Seats were crowded but the atmosphere was good for a small venue. This theater is also over a 100 year old.
casual crab warfare
Beautiful theater, great performance by steely dan. The seats are a bit crowded and the drinks are over priced. But the experience is worth it
Chris Kordish
Historic theater but seats not meant for me at 6'8". I had to sit in the very back balcony where there were some seats that had no seat in front of them.
Sam
This beautiful piece of architecture has immense traditional and historical value.. but it's not comfortable...No ventilation makes if warm up fast, seats are outraged and some corners r dirty
Like U
Great seating, there's always a great show, perfect for dates etc. It has yet to let me down the 4 times that I've been there
Greg Bensom
Excellent venue premium seats $35
Section: LBox C Row: C1 Seat: 1
Tedeschi Trucks Band Nov. 29, 2018
Elsa Bogart
Staff was friendly, beers were dumb expensive but the show was great. Too many freaking people. Any type of emergency would be a freaking nightmare.
Lori Shipulski
One of my favorite places to see a show. Never had a bad experience.
Carole Ferro
An old theater with lots of character. Lots of stairs. There must be elevator for people unable to use stairs. Able to see stage wherever you sit.
Dave N
I always like the Orpheum,it's a smaller venue that creates a Great atmosphere for any show.
Shuai Jiang
The seats are just really damn tight in the balcony (not sure if it's true for the other sections). If you're taller than like 5 feet 8, just be ready for some cramped knees.
Adam Stevenson
Decent place to see a concert. Great views but acoustics are so-so. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Brad Porter
Awesome historical theatre! New age shows with an 1800s feel. Book parking online ahead of time with SpotHero.
Dave Kuhn
Great location to see a show. All the seats feel close to the stage. Very friendly staff.
Tim M
Nice place to see a concert. Ornate interior. Good sound. Seats are old and legroom is limited.
Robert Craig
Well used, mid sized theater used mostly for music concerts. Ornate decorations inside, good sound, old seats.
Andree Thibault
Great venue. Comfortable seating.
Tom Poirier
Good acoustics I like the fact that they have exclusive shows. Large enough to blow off the rafters with sound, small enough to consider it an intimate outing.
Peter DiTommaso
Good venue for concert but limited restrooms. Parking in area within walking distance $12 or less for the evening.
SHANNON FAHEY (ShaSha RooRoo)
Sooo excited to see Elle King tonight's concert at the Orpheum in Boston!! 👊🤩🍻 …
Mike
Solid acoustics. The balcony is best if the want the full scope of whoever's light show you're there to see.
Drew Helm
Great place, saw Steely Dan. The theater was small but great.
John Baker
Great historical venue. In over forty years I have seen Leontyne Price, Bowie, King Crimson, and many many other musical performers there.
Dawn Munson
Wonderful place for a girls night out.
Cynthia Cowing
Very old building, great for an intimate concert, but dress appropriately, it is very hot in there, no AC.
Kevin Maher
Beautiful and intimate venue, you can even Drink in your seat albeit at expensive theatre prices.
Colby Knight
Beautiful theater, love coming here for concerts
Carllee Ford
Small over crowded not easy to walk around when it is a sold out concert. Not enough leg room when you are sitting down.
PunkAndOtherStuff -
The concert was amazing but just know their drinks are overpriced as hell. It cost me 10 dollars to order a Pepsi and a Sparkling Water
Dave Gravy
Great place for sound....terrible place for comfort. Its a legend in Boston but unless you are going to stand for the entire show seating comfort is beyond cramped....
Jon T
Saw a concert here, it was a great concert but the ceiling started to pour water out of a large crack and no one knew what to do.
Randy Burnham
It's a old theater but lots of charm
Matthew Neal
Great venue for a show. Wonderful acoustics.
Jason English
Fantastic live music venue. Great sightlines and sound.
Yen
They show many live events here. There is a front and rear entrance. If you Come and watch a show just don’t drive as there is almost no parking in the area.
H Silva
Went there to see Maxwell, great performance, great view from my seat, the theatre is nice but seats could use an upgrade
Fulton Jim
Saw acdc back in black tour early 80s...just phenomenal venue! Saw lil feat 90s....black crowes in 99 ...big names...little venue... no place funner than this!
Matt59 #

Moo (MoonchildIM323)
Good open space, great view on stage, but the seats aren't that comfortable.
Paul Hathaway
Great view leaving the theatre. Sound is good. Theatre itself needs work. Old & shabby.
Jack Burkhardt
Yeah the seats are like the old Fenway seats I.e. not so comfortable.
Frank B
Needs a fresh coat of paint and new chairs cushions are worn. Looks just like when I first went their in 1983.
Urielnegron1 Negron
Nice place small but great seats not far from stage beer not nice 14 dollars each
nemenie 08lf

Great venue, good size but still makes for a more intimate experience.
Scott Shinkle
very cool old venue with a lot of history, Good but not excellent sound and acoustics, expensive beer, gestappp security
Deb Ventre
First time visiting, great experience. Could use an upgrade, paint alone would help. Staff was a bit bossy.

Do not purchase tickets for the box seats. Website states "partial obstruction" but couldn't see a thing except speakers
E
Iconic Boston Venue never miss a great band here the sound is amazing and a small room less then 3k capacity!
Jesse DiGioia
Place is one of Boston's best to see musicians. My knees hurt because people were smaller back before GMOs

Cory Nadeau
Sounds great, but unless you're skinny and under on the shorter side the seats aren't to comfortable
Aynsley
A little dated, but a nice venue. Seats are uncomfortably close if you have long legs.

Needs a rennovation really bad - but the sound was nice and loud, the seats weren't terrible, and it was nice and warm, so not too bad at all 😃 …
Ryan Torberg
Fun show, cool old venue
Ryan Grawin
Cool venue if you get good seats on the floor and don't mind standing.
Sarah Fortune
Few choices for beer, stopped serving food before show even started, and very few staff on hand to get people through security and into the venue.
David Conrad
