Reviews of Wortham Center for the Performing Arts
Beautiful set-up! Very accommodating. If you park in the parking deck, it's more expensive than if you can find a street parking spot w/a meter. I was there for a little less than an hour and parked in the parking deck which cost me $20!! Not even an hour! Wortham civic center and the group who performed "Blood at the Root" were phenomenal!!
Really nice production of the Nutcracker. Some really good acts and talent for a regional show.
A bit confusing on sitting our large group. Ushers didn't direct us correctly to our balcony seats initially. Don't expect a large selection of drinks and snacks. But, enough to tide you over.
Parking can be difficult to find. Arrive in the area at least 30 minutes early to find parking and walk to the venue. You can walk through the General Mast store.
Extremely clean. Friendly staff. Very organized. The best place to breathe in John Samuel Waters Jr!
Saw Leo Kotke in solo concert. It was fabulous! The sound system was excellent. The venue is welcoming and hosts many unique shows. The staff/greeter/etc are very friendly and quick to help with answers to your questions. Go & enjoy!
Absolutely love the performances here. Aquilla Theater is a family favorite and puts on a stellar show.
Watched the Asheville Ballet performance of The Nutcracker. We sat in the right box seats and had a partially obstructed view, but it did not take away from the wonderful performance. One suggestion is having the music performed live by the Asheville Symphony--nothing that may require moving to a larger theater to accommodate.
Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville is doing an exceptional job at keeping it's patrons safe by requiring masks and either your vaccination card or proof of a negative test in past 48hrs. So, if you haven't been to a theater since the pandemic began, this is definitely one you can feel really good about visiting and supporting. The upgrades they have made are absolutely beautiful! You have got to get in there to see a performance this year.
We saw Vitaly last night and he is an exceptional illusionist from Vancouver, BC. What a refreshing blend of art and magic and lots of audience participation. He almost always had a sketch book in his hand, which reminded me of my son. Vitaly would draw, paint, sculpt and the artwork would come to life. His paint brush would continue painting on it's own, in thin air, and the drawings would literally come off the page. What a kind and generous performer as well. After the show he offered a meet and greet in the lobby where he was signing autographs and taking photos with the audience members. My son and his buddy got to chat with him and Vitaly even signed my son's art book. What a memorable experience. I took some before and after the show photos.
Absolutely wonderful staff and beautiful sound for the size of the auditorium.
Downtown walkway leads in between to businesses into the facility.
COVID aware and restrooms are easily accessible.
Parking deck immediately off to the side of entrance but a little cramped.
Walking distance from stone really good hotels.
Nothing really negative to say about the place...really enjoyed my first visit.
OH!...and they're is no bad seat in the place...literally!
Intimate setting for a highly polished production. Happy to hear the "Says You!" producers claim DWT was the most professional space they've played anywhere, and they cited a vibrant community feel as another big plus. Visit often!
Another great venue for cultural experience in our little town. Lots of support from the community, and the vibe shows.
Very cozy and intimate venue. Really enjoyed our evening.
it’s a really nice theater)l! we saw Malevo and it was great.
Great, perfect size theater. Saw Swannanoa Solstice and was delightfully entertained by some world class folks.
I was in Asheville to celebrate my retirement; a "girls weekend" with daughter-in-law and 13 year old granddaughter. The others had in mind a weekend of spa treatments, shopping, and perhaps a movie. When I found two wonderful productions were at DWT, I was delighted. We attended both, with last tickets in the house (or close to it) for both. We had a marvelous time. The extremely convenient and affordable parking next door made it easy, and we combined theater with excellent dinners both evenings. Ticket process was simple. Though we had obstructed views at the first play (Murder on the Nile), the box office was very clear about that and the discount was appropriate. Theater was attractive, immaculately clean, comfortable, and acoustically quite good. Ushers, helpful and nice. Especially when we had obstructed view.... The usher found three vacated seats for us to move to after intermission. We found the Agatha Christie a little hard to keep up with due to the repertory company's ambitious production (three actors playing 10 characters), but we still enjoyed it. For the second production, DWT had arranged for a wonderful, free pre-show discussion, led by a Shakespeare expert. That was tremendously enriching! Helped my granddaughter jump right into the plot. Wonderful experience.
Nice show but the seats are so tight it's ridiculous.
I went to see John Waters show with a friend this was my first time coming to the Wortham center.
Great venue with different hang out areas. Loved it.
The theatre was fantastic! The entryway is under construction, but still easy to navigate through. Plenty of concessions and variety of shows offered. Our seats were phenomenal and we really enjoyed the show we saw there. Nice size theatre, big enough, but still intimate enough that you do feel connected to the performer. Would definitely recommend a show there to anyone who lives in or is visiting the Asheville area!
Nice theater. As an usher, I was able to try the box seats on the right balcony as well as seats on level 1. Great viewing both places. Obviously, more comfort in the larger seats, but both were fine. Music level was great, lights beautifully done. I saw The Nutcracker.
Loved it! Went to see The Nutcracker. Nice location, nice building, and very nice on the inside. A bit small but still a lot of room. There is a parking garage beside it but it's a bit squished in between the buildings.
Wonderful theater, dance, music and performances. Top notch!
Lovely venue for concerts and other lively arts performances. There sever performance spaces in this complex.
This occasion was the first post COVID-19 performance of Asheville's Blue Ridge Orchestra. The BRO is a nonprofit, volunteer ensemble dedicated to engaging Western North Carolina’s extraordinary music community with opportunities to perform, listen to, and learn about great symphonic music.
Great venue. Enjoyed our show. Big enough for a decent crowd, small enough that every seat is good!
Always love going to this venue. Shows are great, theater is intimate and all seats are good. Staff are helpful and friendly.
As usual, the Wortham Center does not disappoint. Acrocats was a delightful experience and the theater is such a great venue. The staff is always helpful and professional. We are lucky to have it in our area.
Beautiful little venue. First time there and I hope to enjoy other shows there. Intimate setting to listen to one of my all time favorite guitar players. Jorma was stellar in this venue.
Came here to see the Asheville conservatory ballet. Very talented dancers and the theater was very nice as well. The staff were friendly with directing me to the right seat and very kind. Will definitely return in the near future to another show.
We have been here numerous times and it is very nice. It is easily reached and pretty comfortable. There are snacks, coffee and drinks vailable from different establishments within the Center. Downtown Asheville with all of its restaurants, pubs and bars are right outside...
Great theatre. Saw the nutcracker. Great show until fire alarm went off. We all had to wait out in the 25° weather until fire department let us back in.
I would definitely go back to see another show. Theatre is beautiful!
Cozy, intimate theater gives you a personal experience with the performers. This was my first time visiting. Row D seats were head&shoulders level wirh stage. Sound system was great. Personnel were friendly and helpful. Very old fashioned feel, but utterly charming.
The McGuire theater was warm and comfortable. Very intimate even. Only 100 seats or so. Great for a new artist. The main stage has a balcony and seats quite a few.
Wow! This was my first visit to the Wortham Center and it's very beautiful inside. I will most definitely like to come back for future shows.
Saw the showing of Reel Rock 14 here and it was one of the funnest experiences I had with the climbing community. Theater is so comfortable and staff are lovely. Bathrooms are gorgeous and spotless.
Shawn Colvin sounded great in this venue. The size is ideal for intimate performances. The only negative that I noticed would be if our seats had been behind the mixing board it would have been distracting. The staff was friendly.
A super lovely theatre. Definitely recommend some of their xmas events like the Asheville Dance Academy's nutcracker. A little difficult to manage wheelchair access cause the doors are a bit narrow, but they do have areas for handicapped seating which is nice!
Live unfiltered entertainment an antidote for the times we live in. Real people performing live with unconditioned sound.
I've been back here several times for classical music. The most recent visit with my gal was for a Lee Ann Womack concert that was outstanding. Met Star who works at the theater. What a knowledgeable and lovely person.
First time hanging out in Asheville, NC. Went to go see black violin group. It was very nice. Not your usual violin concert but basically hip hop and classical combined. The locals are very nice, definitely will plan for another Asheville trip! The building is currently undergoing renovation and will house 3 different theater's, can't wait to see the finished product it is going to be great!
We saw a piano concert here. The theater was great! The very last seat in the front rows had very limited visibility. The pianists were incredibly talented and entertaining!
Beautiful theater, but a little difficult to get to until construction on walkway is complete.
I enjoyed a performance by an Irish folk music ensemble called Dervish. Lead singer Cathy Jordan gave the story behind every song and was quite humorous. Very good musicians playing various instruments and Jordan's beautiful voice made for a nice evening of music.
The only reason they got 3 stars because it was a very clean beautiful theater. Other than that vert disappointing. My wife and I spent $213 on two tickets. At the 15 min intermission we went across the street we were back in 15 minutes and we're locked out. And we're not allowed to return. Now I understand the locking of the doors for security reasons, but at $213 for 2 tickets I think they should let ticket holders in no matter what the time. So over all my experience with this theater was very poor. I love Asheville though. One of the best downtowns in the country. I would give the downtown area 10 stars if I could rate it.
Perfect acoustics and the staff is awesome!
Just saw Aimme Mann last night. Friendly staff. She and her band were playing through the theatre's own sound system. Sound was muddy and did not do band justice. I think it was turned up too loud and may have been distorting.
I don't think there is a bad seat in this house. It's a relatively small venue and the seat spacing and floor slope are such that you generally don't get views obstructed by other people's heads.
What a great experience :-) staff was so nice :-)
Awesome 😎 the performance was amazing glad my daughter was a part of it and so we're we looking forward to further events. …
Beautiful intimate venue located in downtown Asheville on Biltmore Ave. Walking distance from Aloft Hotel and many local restaurants. Lots of diverse and fun shows. Highly recommend catching any shows the Wortham!
Garage top concert, outstanding!
Well it's in the heart of downtown Asheville and I got to experience seeing the nutcracker with my three year old granddaughter. And the facility is beautiful and there's probably not a bad seat in the house.
Absolutely loved the Philidanco show and the staff was just lovely! Made sure everyone was safe and comfortable
We saw The Muses of Terpiscorp and loved it. Impressive young talent and choreography. The theatre is very nice and planning renovation and expansion. Can't wait!
We attended the 15th annual Swannanoa Solstice Concert. It was great fun and our seats were excellent. There isn't a bad seat anywhere in the theater.
Have seen many shows here and this is my favorite venue in Asheville. From Ballet to Music each show has been fantastic and I love the intimate atmosphere.
First time visit to the theatre and it is great. Small and intimate, easy access in and out, and the Swannanoa Solstice show was outstanding tonight.
We saw the Harlem Dance Team there and it was fantastic. Thanks Lisa! Highly recommended!
This place is older, but I like the older theatres. I've seen at least 5 shows here and while I have mixed reviews of the shows, The space has stayed a favorite. Attached parking garage is a plus in Asheville also.
Wonderful faculty, and extremely caring stage crew. Also, the audience is very controlled and polite.
People were very nice venue was comfortable like a location downtown would return if in the area
My daughter and I visited for the first time and really enjoyed it! The staff was extremely friendly & accommodating, we look forward to many more plays here!
Diana Wortham, you guys are amazing. Thank you for the support and allowing us to come and preform in your Theater. Thank you. ( Also, sorry for the one star rating, that was a bad phone thing).
Great venue. Comfortable seats, quality sound. I've seen dance performances, plays, concerts, and roundtable discussions.
Great place to see stuff. I have lived here 28 years but somehow I've only been in this theater two times.
Wonderful venue, excellent stage and technical facilities for local performing arts companies, kind and professional staff, and really outstanding shows!
Excellent venue. Attended Shoshana Bean concert. Very good acoustics and comfortable seating
It's clean and has nice seating. Just beware that the first row is not the best. The second is. The first makes it hard to see onstage.
What a beautiful venue. The summer dance series is always great! This is an essential fiber in the Asheville fabric.
Seats are at a height and an angle that makes it very easy to watch the program
Lousy website. Ineffective for purchasing tickets.
I have been here for a "Day of the Dead" festival, and to see "The Magic Flute" opera. Both events were wonderful, and organized.
Not a bad seat in the house of this lovely theater. The Swannanoa Solstice was great as always. A perfect start to the holidays.
Beautiful theater, great show... even though I bought an "obstructed view" seat...there was no obstruction!
There to see the Great Divorce. Excellent play so is ataff
We were there for a special event...the Shift from Fear to Love...and what a beautiful theater! We so enjoyed being there.
Nice small theater.
Our second Year at the jazz festival here, it is a great venue.
Small but lovely space. Really needs to join the 21st century though and have wifi available to performers, guests and patrons.
Some construction going on, but nothing too distracting. What a wonderful experience and date night! Will definitely visit again.
Good acoustics and we found parking in the lot nextt door. Great choice for dance recitals.
I'm here for the Ashville Comedy Festival every August, the facility and staff are top notch!
Such a great theatre space. Rae Jeffries is a true asset to the arts community in Asheville.
The architecture of the building is beautiful. It is clean and very well maintained. The staff were excellent, very professional.

Always a wonderful place to catch any act, even the balcony seats make you feel you're right up front.
Outstanding Acapella Show With all Local Talent. A worthwhile investment to receive a Evening of Great Entertainment
A fantastic theatre. Not a bad seat in the house. Show selection is amazing!
Amazing venue and after the current construction is complete, I'm sure it will be even better.
Went to dance recital there, auditorium very nic,
Don't sit in the balcony. Acoustics are bad with a flutter echo. And view is bad because of high railing.
Went tonite to see and be greatly entertained by the troupe and the music was beyond fantastik. 5 STARS FROM ME!

Have been to this theatre several times. We have enjoyed the performances.
