Reviews of Alaska Center for the Performing Arts
Somewhat sprawling concert/venue hosting activity space that has no specific parking of its own, but lots of nearby parking available for a fee. There are a lot of good shows that happen here... plays, musicals, and operas. Plan your downtown visit, and enjoy!
I've been here a few times outside of school. There hasn't been a whole lot that interested me until recently. PAC is a great place and is always clean and the staff are friendly. Definitely going to try to go more often
It was a great place to know more about the Native Alaskans. The dance performance very impressive. The talk on Alaskan Culture..about the Whistling used for communication...very impressive. Their houses looked good.
I have so many positive memories at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, from watching The Nutcracker with my family every year for the past 30 years, to a magnificent production of Lion King, and the numerous Anchorage Symphony Orchestra performances, I couldn't ask for a place that warms my heart more than the PAC! The ushers are kind, the performers are amazing, and I will keep returning year after year as a supporter of the arts!
I had tickets in Row D. I was surprised to find out that for this show (Stomp), Row D turned out to be the front row. Now normally this would be a pleasant surprise. However, the stage floor was above the level of the seats. Much of the Stomp performance, rhythms, footwork, etc, was created directly on the stage
Floor. Therefore, A large portion of the program could not be seen because of the stage floor level in relation to the seats. Otherwise, the performing arts center is quite nice.
We went to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts to see the film, AurorA, Alaska's Great Northern Lights. The center was very nice, multilevel, with immaculate restrooms with lots of stalls. The staff selling tickets and taking our tickets at the door were very friendly and professional. The film itself was absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend going to see this well made film.
I saw the Nutcracker and the Blue Man Group here and it was fantastic! I will definitely return to see another show in the future!
A splendid setting to watch a concert or a play. Not a bad seat in the house; excellent acoustics.
Last week we saw the film Aurora at Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. It is a beautiful venue in downtown Anchorage. And, while not totally as anticipated, we did enjoy the film.
An incredible house of the arts. Having been here for both concert and opera, I can highly recommend both this venue and the content I have seen here.
Saw blue man group here! Awesome. Beautiful theater as well.
My most favorite place to see Broadway shows and other amazing performances.
Beautiful venue! I saw Harry Potter Live with the Anchorage Symphony and it was magical. Decent ticket prices for events from what I've seen. Seats are decent and somewhat comfortable. Many parking areas around this location, just make sure you arrive at least 40 minutes before your event because parking fills up fast. This place gets HOT, so make sure you wear layers so you can adjust throughout your experience.
This is a magnificent stage theater, showing the very best acts in all of Alaska. It's awesome location downtown, surrounded by the best restaurants and parks, make it the focal point for culture in Anchorage. You notice it from far off due to the distinctive light up rings on the building.
The PAC always has a wide variety of shows, from smaller local shows to bigger names, music, plays, concerts. They have it all!
Very nice place and wait for good show, next coming is The King and I
This is the place to watch your favorite plays and performances.
Looking forward to seeing more.
Show was great, but seat here are so uncomfortable.
Great venue. Went and watched Tom segura. So funny. Had never been and was amazed how fast they seated that many people.
This was a wonderful walk back in time to theaters of my childhood. So glad we went.
Our family attended many events at the Alaska Center of the Performing Arts over the years. My grandchildren are now introducing their children to the arts because of the shows they experienced there. Thank you for many wonderful memories.
You'll pay a premium for most shows, but the facility is very nice, and they do a good job of bringing up talented performers.
Great space with an amazing crew. Thanks for everything.
Absolutely gorgeous theatre, nice sound quality and stage location works for any seat in the house.
We have enjoyed going to pack for years. The shows are always superb the performers are in awe of their audiences in Anchorage and in awe of how beautiful our city is and hope to come back and we would love to have them all back as often as they would like to come. I am so grateful to all of the contributors and to the oil companies that have provided funding for the origination of pack and supported it through the years and hope that that continues
Beautiful venue for the Red Cross Event I attended. Had a great time. Staff were friendly and professional.
I will always love the Performing Arts Center next to Town Square Park. I share my birthday with the PAC's opening day. My parents enjoy telling the story of my dad feeding my mom multiple slices of pizza followed by marching her 39-wk self up and down the many MANY stairs in the facility. In the end, after all the effort, hours later I was born.
One of the many memorable highlights of the PAC is the original flower poppy-print carpet featuring oranges and reds covering the floor as the neutral-colored walls and vaulted ceilings above create a sense of retro grandiosity to this day. This is juxtaposed by a simple, geometric interior, slate grey walls, balconies, and stairs which are open in the center at each floor landing, allowing for a more roomy, but at the same time, intimate atmosphere. Refreshment and snack stations are conveniently located on either side of the main landing where guests may socialize before and between acts. Greeters and ushers are pleasant and will kindly guide guests to their seats in a prompt manner. If guests arrive late to a show/concert, ushers seat them in a row reserved for this purpose so they can still enjoy the entertainment before a break when they are able to be seated in their original assigned seats.
The interior of each concert hall feature varying colors and patterns on the ceiling and walls, all of which are designed specifically to amplify the most conducive acoustics for each space. Each concert hall allows for varying numbers of guest seating depending on the type of entertainment featured. In the Atwood Concert Hall, guests may enjoy symphonies which feature a guest musician (including pianists, who utilize the split and hydraulic floor to accommodate movement of a grand piano), symphonies with a choir and/or guest vocalist, and even multimedia productions including the symphony backed by a projector with imagery or a film. The Discovery Theater features many operas and music acts, while the Sydney Laurence Theater features shorter or one-act plays and frequently local productions from theater troupes and school musicals/plays. There are smaller spaces in the PAC where meetings, private showings, and other events are held.
Being so centrally located, it is commonly referred to when giving directions or as a central starting point for people to meet. Many bars, restaurants, and other entertainment facilities surround the PAC which guests may filter into after shows/concerts for late night fun.
Overall, The PAC is a must-visit on any tourists' (and even locals') list of places to see/visit in Anchorage!
A fantastic venue for theater, music, lectures. Each of the three theaters has its benefits. The seats in the Atwood are beginning to lose their cushion - they are getting pretty old - so just be warned about long periods of sitting. Great acoustics, though, especially since they got the new shell.
Loved the building and staff. Only improvement I would make is to get bigger seats and possibly an escalator in place of the stairs. The sound system was ok. Experienced a few problems during the show, but ultimately we had a great time.
Nice on the inside. The park around next to the building has a lot of homeless people. They generally keep to themselves. Please dont let distract you from attending an event. There is plenty of parking (garage, street, and/or parking lot). All parking in downtown cost money.
Have been to numerous shows and the staff is great. I have ended up with free booze just because and they are incredibly considerate otherwise.
Some shows end up with some improv, so be wary. Our Peter Pan show had a sword fly into the orchestra. .. no one was harmed that we know of
The theater has nostalgia. I hadn't been to one in ages and felt right at home. I went with my daughter's school field trip to see 'Airplay'. The theater was roomy, the seats are comfy (although if you have a small one bring a blanket or use your coats to keep from folding on them lol)
And the inside structure is amazing! The upstairs has a small cafe area where they sell few drinks and treats. But it's not a movie theater so I expected that. I will defiantly be looking forward to my next visit.
Depending on the show you're going to see the price can vary from free to expensive!
Generally there's adequate parking within a block or two of the facility, depending on the time of day and the show you want to see you may be able to get free parking or have to pay at one of the local pay to park areas nearby there's several within a block or so.
Concessions are generally overpriced if they're provided at all, one of the worst experiences I had was paying for a seat showing up on time somebody sitting in our seat and the staff tree seated us somewhere else. I find this to be highly unprofessional especially when they're charging different rates for different seating.
The ushers were so nice and helpful, I'm still pumping and they found me a private place during intermission and made sure I had everything I needed. Such wonderful staff, I live going here.
Comfortable seating and beautiful hall.
Love this place. They are a backbone of live national and world wide theater shows. They support local schools by providing a free bus and $8.00 tickets to school age shows. I definitely support the APAC with donations. Please consider it to!
Saw the Symphony here, I'm not much of a Symphony person but it was an awesome experience. I recommend this venue. And the more refined people that I met were very accepting. Alaska has good people.
Great place to learn about the original Alaskans. We spent 5 hours there!
Amazing Theatre! The building itself is huge and conveniently located downtown adjacent to a large park and pay lot which makes for an easy and stress free parking plan. Everything is well organized with huge wide hallways and large double doors making the flow of traffic getting in and out od the actual theater rooms way easier than others I've seen. We went to see the 2018 Nutcracker performance by the Eugene Ballet and it was fantastic! They brought in the Anchorage Symphany who were below the performance floor playing live. Great experience and they staff was also very helpful in guiding everyone to their exact seat locations.
Awesome place to experience the arts for the entire family all year. Even includes dress rehearsals for ballet at reduced rates. I can afford to take the grandchildren to see the Nutcracker!! A great way to welcome I. The Christmas season, not to mention the upcoming Opera season in freezing Anchorage for me on the mezzanine, stage left.
Went for field trip, great performance. Staff organized the attending schools, they always do such a great job. The staff always helpful and friendly. Facility always appears clean, organized. Great place to watch a performance.
Tickets can be pricey sometimes. I wouldn't recommend paying anything over 50.
Also I wish they would fix their water fountains. Honestly I think they do it on purpose so we're forced to buy bottled water. I went about 7 months ago and I noticed one of them wasn't working. I visited again this past week and it's still out of order! 💀
Fix your water fountains please!
The PAC is the place to be in Anchorage for live entertainment.
I have loved every show I have ever seen there BUT it's a shame more shows don't have better prices. Even if it was the "nose bleed section" that they offered cheap tickets, that would make a difference. Everyone deserves the right to theater even if they are low income.
I always enjoy seeing different Broadway plays or Musicals. I always seat where I can see the event and watch the ASL interpreters. I just have to remember to notify ahead of time to request them.
Staffed by friendly locals this venue hosts a wide array of local and traveling talents. The only reasons I don't give it a five-star is due to lack of any dancing floor space and sound quality issues on more than one occasion
Fantastic experience! They always have a great selection of events for the season. The alcohol is a little overpriced, but only if you want it! Alternatively there are bars across the street you can order from.
Beautiful atmosphere. Comfortable regulated temperatures. Easy to get around and find our interior destination. Will definitely go again when the time arrives.
My wife had to ask the sound engineer to make adjustments for clarity for the listening public. The sound engineers at the PAC have done a terrible job this year. I have not been at a performance this year when the amplified instruments have not completely drowned out the vocals.
Bathrooms are hard to find but great place to watch concerts!!
On one hand, AurorA was a beautiful production and a great way to see the northern lights regardless of what time of year you're visiting. On the other, asking people to pay more for a 40 minute film than you would normally pay for a full length movie is ridiculous ($13 for an adult with an entire dollar off for seniors). Gouging people who are visiting and want to learn about your state is a poor choice, and they should have a more reasonable price.
Saw postmodern jukebox. Wonderful sound. Beautiful facility.
It would be nice if we didn't have to wear a mask or have to get tested for covid!
The Northern Lights show is a must see. Having witnessed the lights, in my opinion the film is authentic in its entirety. Truly amazing.
I took my daughter to Harry Potter and it was wonderful!
Always happy to get to come and listen to some good music
Loved the play Annie.
Went to see the Aurora show. It was very beautiful, and the facilities were very nice, but it was really just like watching a movie. I don't regret going though.
A bit dated, but the essential pillar to Alaska's arts community. Varies by show, but most likely you will enjoy any offering of entertainment, for a fair price.
Attended the Nutcracker and it was wonderful. The symphony orchestra was superb and the Eugene Ballet was wonderful. Seating in the theater was very good.
Nutcracker was very good 2 hours flew by. But I was charged double so my 3 tickets turned out to be $222 instead of $111.
They do an awesome job for our kids field trips♡ it's always fun to get to be a chaperone and go too!
Great performance! Loved Little Mermaid.
Amazing shows and productions. Check out the plays. Good seating even if you get cheap tickets.
It's just a great atmosphere to be in, I feel excited and happy every visit we have had here!
Beautiful place!
My son and I went to see the nutcracker. No complaints.
We always have fun at the PAC, and we like it even more now that they accept credit cards for beer & wine!
Saw blue man group
Lovely place to see a show! They have multiple theaters, so don't be afraid to ask for directions!
I enjoy my time here every time. Just wished traffic control for audience was better in the lobby area for intermissions.
At International Guitar Night and the sound in the Discovery Theater is fabulous. A perfect venue for acoustical excellence.
Saw King and I, excellent, recommended mezzanine seats
We enjoy their concert series each winter and always look forward to seeing what is coming up.
Nice facility. Was in Atwood theater. Enjoyed the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra concert. Good acoustics.
Attended a matinee showing of Peter and the Wolf, it is a great venue with a wonderful staff! I highly recommend the experience.
I've enjoyed every show that I've seen there and I've been going there for about 7 years now.
So organized and clean, staff super helpful, and the shows sre always great!!
Real great for a fun night out. Not just a normal night out a very memorable night that will make you feel something.
The architecture was the best I've ever seen
The ushers had a tour of the back of the house. It was fascinating. Ask if they might make it available to the public.
Excellent venue for concerts and plays. Lots of parking downtown makes it easy to get to
Kind of a hike for mobility challenged individuals like me. No convenient place to access the front door from where the taxi had to leave me out
Went and saw the nutcracker here awesome stage and could hear and see everything no matter where you sat awesome place will be back soon
Will call window just closed but they helped me anyways. Thankful! Great time at the performing arts center!
Beautiful interior, comfortable seats, nice venues inside, moderate-medium stage size.
Another awesome experience very accommodating especially concerning my physical challenges great staff very comfortable and clean
Saw Postmodern Jukebox.
Awesome!!
First class arts venue. This is really minor but the atrium has some really poor lighting that shine right in your eyes
They do a great job and seem to be attracting bigger shows over the years.
Impressive building and classy atmosphere. Aurora feature video is stunning.
Outstanding Alaska cultural heritage center, great worth of information. Worth the time. Enjoy!!
It very nice, a little hot though and kinda hard to see from where I sat

Always a good time. Not a bad seat in the house.
Saw Chicago. Comfortable seating, attentive staff, beautiful venue.
The center is a little dated and worn out, but it's all about the talent that makes the evening here.
