We went in the first week of August. It was extremely hot. Be mindful to take hats, umbrella etc. We took a capitol tour inside. It was free but you have to book in advance. You need to go there with a booking. Historic and grand. We enjoyed the tour as it was very informative detailing the story of the birth of the constitution, the paintings and also the sculptures.
You can take pictures when permitted.
Also I want to mention here about finding the correct entrance for visitors as there were many gates. So plan ahead of your booking. It took us a little while to locate the exact gate for entrance.

The inside was beautiful. We got the staff tour, thank to our daughter for that. She show us around and told us the history behind it. I think it was cool to see them once in your life time.

Do not miss visiting the US capitol. The building is amazing and the history it tells is a must do when visiting Washington DC. You can do a free tour where a guide is telling you a lot of facts about the building, the people who worked here and the ones who still work here. You can experience the history of the government of the United States here better then any where else.
Secret tip: visit the capitol when the sun is down for a walk around the capitol garden.
Petry Purenia
It's an amazing building with its history. Really enjoy listening to the tour guide when she explained the history of the building and the statues of each states. One of destinations should visit when in DC. Before visit, should register your date of visit at US Capitol's website.
Timothy Joyce
An American treasure! I've been here for work and for private tours. Had dinner in the Congressional Dinning Room which was excellent. The building itself is a "must see" when in DC. The statuary, art, history and architecture are spectacular!
Karin E
If you are a DC visitor, it is a MUST place to check out. It is free about 45 mins tour dig to the history and learn fun facts, suitable for each age. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and nice people. Our tour guide named David was fun. They have restaurant and gifts shop that you can purchase some sovinrours.
Haya Alshamsi
The place was beyond spectacular. Our first visit my family and I didn’t know that we had to book for the tickets. So we decided to visit it again and booked the tickets online for free. All that you have to do is register the names and ages of the visitors. We were a total of 11 in my family ages ranging between 10 - 40 a mixture of all ages. The tour was perfect to capture the interest of all the ages in the family and the host was just amazing and accommodating in answering all the questions that we had. Definitely recommend a visit with family.

It's nice walking around the capitol grounds. There are many nice park walkways and fountains. You can also see the supreme court and the library of Congress that are close by. We didn't make it inside but the trip was fun and I recommend you go check it out. Make sure you use the bathroom beforehand because there weren't many public options.
Angel Harwick
Family did the tour. We had arranged for the tour with our representative a couple of months prior to our arrival in DC. We enjoyed the tour.
Sushant Kulkarni
Make sure to check out the tour of capitol building. It's free and usually available if you book like a day or two in advance.
Mariu E.
The tour is 100% worth it. We were glad our children got to visit at such a young age. My husband and I also enjoyed this experience. Our favorite part was entering the room were the senate meets. It was a great experience.
caitlin bauer
Our tour guide Ann was great! She was super knowledgeable and was great at explaining the history of the building. It was definitely worth it if you’re in DC and looking for something to do!
Rrr
The office building of the U.S. Congress looks like a pure white palace. The palace is three floors high. Above the majestic building itself, there is a round shape, which looks like a crown. It looks like a crown on the building. Standing looking at the past from the big lawn, there is a solemn momentum, the beauty here is like a painting
Mathilde Seillier
I really enjoyed the guided tour. Thank you Douglas. Even if you're not American I recommend it.
Tim Thompson
As a Canadian witnessing literally, thousands of shooting events, interspersed with Hundreds of MASS shootings. There is plenty of data to produce a rating system for , cities, counties and States that will indicate the danger level for potential travellers to assess themselves in booking trips to the US via Trip advisor. We need this, as right now all of these government levels just keep bragging how good they are at getting to the scenes, securing them and counting bodies. This rating system would be the only way for visitors to have any control over their perceived safety.
Nas Sol
The in-depth history of this iconic building is grander than I expected! A true beautiful from the exterior to the interior. I got a sense of appreciation after leaving from here. It can get very packed though so it's recommended you start your day early to beat the crowd. A must see when you're in DC!
Stephen Butler
My first time taking the tour. Our Representative arranged a VIP tour. It was very small and personal. There’s no cost, but if your going to take a tour book it in advance. It takes about 3 hours or so. It was worth the time.
Please hit “Like” if this was helpful. Thanks.
Ben Henderson
Really enjoyed the tour inside the Capitol building. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Really interesting history and beautiful inside. Liked the fact you can then walk through a tunnel to cross over to the library of Congress which again was beautiful.
Keith Roussel
Visiting the Capitol building is fantastic experience. I visited with my family and it was a great opportunity to see some of our nation's history as well as the seat of power of the legislative branch.
We booked a tour in advance from out state senator Ted Cruz. Our tour began at his office in the neighboring senate building. From there we took the underground trolly to the capitol building. Our tour guide took us through the various parts of the capitol biding explaining the building, decoration and history. After the tour we were able to view the senate and house of representative chamber. Each was unique. The House had a live reenactment of typical chamber proceedings which was nice, but once the reenactment was finished, we had to leave. The senate on the other hand had no reenactment, but we would stay as long as we like. I sat therefore a while attempting to etch the experience in my memory, which I personally valued more.
Isabelle Tran
Beautiful architecture from the outside. Recommended to book in advance for a tour. The park outside is a beautiful place to relax after a long day of touring, including some cherry blossom trees.
Eric Salas
If you are traveling to Washington, D.C. for vacation, you really should visit the U.S. Capitol and see history first hand. Make sure you book a tour so you will know the historic events that have taken place inside and the many important decisions that have been made over the course of history. The tour can go from 60 to 90 minutes. You will each be given a headset so you can hear what your guide is saying.
Once inside, you may want to spend time appreciating the architecture and putting attention to every detail that defines this building.
Security is tight going into the building, so it’s best that you not bring too much with you.
After you are done inside, walk around the building and enjoy the grand architecture.
Ian White
We were lucky that the queue was short on the day of our visit.
Our guide was very friendly and helpful and really gave us a feel for the history of the Capitol, whilst also giving a good account of the building as a functioning place of government.
Photographs and video are all very well but they don't give a good feel for the way that the Capitol dominates the Washington skyline. Well worth visiting!
ivana gobbo
It is our first time in Washington DC and we love it. What a beautiful city. The US Capitol its mind blowing. The architecture and the perfection of every little detail just take your breath away. The tours inside the Capitol are completely free. If you don’t have reservation, they’ll fit you in the next tour available. After seeing the Capitol, we went to the Library of Congress through the tunnel that connects both monuments. Very nice experience.
Archit saxena
One of the best places to visit. Every time you look at this beautiful place, you will find something new. Every season of the year this is marvelous and stunning place has something different to offer. Please do visit this place during day and night. I can not get over by looking at any time during the day, month and year.
Jim Mitchell
Great visit! A guided tour was included and our guide was very knowledgeable with historical facts I never knew of. After the tour we walked the tunnel to the library of Congress which has a very nice museum. Thomas Jefferson's collection of books was impressive as well as WWI memorabilia etc.
Behzad Taimur
Parking can be a huge hassle. However, remember, this is DC. Public transport is just great. The subway works great. Everything is very walkable - Even if you have little kids with you. Or, better Uber around. Plenty of restaurants in the vicinity and literally dozens of food trucks for cheaper options. Major food districts are never far from here.
Now, the good stuff: It doesn't work simply to go up to the Capitol building and take a pic. It's the whole area. The grounds, the little monuments all around, the eclectic blend of surrounding buildings. Look, it's all history. You can't just snap a shot of history. You have to 'walk through it' and 'experience' it. So do that. WALK. Walk around the building. Look at the little things - The water fountains and the lamps. This place is an experience.
shelley schultz
Beautiful. I have visited many times. The grounds are stunning. The history is a presence. I was stunned at the size of the building. I am so amazing by the work that this took to complete. Everywhere you look their is a beautiful detail. The grace of the Capitol is breath taking. Have taken so many pictures of the mall. Playing football on the lawn. In the background is the capitol. Always there a guardian of democracy. I will always remember seeing the Capitol behind my son as he receiving his Masters on the national mall. The splendor as you walk up from the Lincoln memorial. The first look as you walk up to the Washington monument. Amazing! I have never been able to see the interior. But I hope one day I will be able to make it happen. A must see walking around the building is the best walk. A long walk surprises you how actually ginormous it is.....UPDATE we finally got to visit the inside. We were the first group to be allowed back in the Gallery of the Senate, Amazing!
DJ H
Definitely worth taking the tour. It is a beautiful building. However now you need to go to your location congressional representative to get a reserved tour. In the past, you just show up and wait for the next tour. At least this way you don't have to wait for the tour at the US Capital. We also received tickets for the House Gallery tour. This is the balcony overseeing where the House of Representatives vote and where the Presidential State of the Union is held.
Benjamin Dadson
Amazing monument. Love every single thing about this and outstanding rich history of makes one learn a lot and meet people from all walks of life. Don't miss out on this place when you visit US.
Mark Thornton
Probably the most gorgeous building in DC. Absolutely stunning architecture with an incredible history to accompany it. The building in enormous, and understanding its history of how it progressed is extremely impressive. The inside is equally as beautiful as the outside architecture, and a must see. The visitor center is pretty awesome and worthwhile —it’s extremely informative.
Bill Henrichs
Awe inspiring. They knew what they were doing when they built this building. As ugly as things seem in politics today, a tour of this building seems to put things in perspective. A lot of good has happened in this place and to walk the halls and see the sites is pretty awesome. All three of our kids were entertained/captivated here. Probably goes without saying, but this is a must when you visit
John Muhlhauser
Wow! Amazing architecture! I absolutely enjoyed my visit! Even though there is a partial government shutdown I saw no signs of trash or negligence here. It wasn't crowded so it made for some really good pictures to be taken. I was blown away by the size and detail of this building!
Sanjay Gupta
I had the fortune of Visiting Capitol recently. This is the most magnificent iconic building there is. The experience started with great ease at the visitor center. The tour was booked in advance online so it was very easy. We started the trip with north wing. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and she gave full details of the history of each part of the building. The best part of the tour was to see the central dome. There is no limit to the time here that you can spend. Each and every portrait, statue and carvings have a story depicting the tales of this great nation. This was once in a lifetime experience for a traveler like me. I strongly recommend this tour on your visit to DC.
Dee Dickens
I highly recommend everyone visit once in their life. The details of the architecture and artwork will leave you in awe... and I suppose it's also important to see where the decisions impacting the country are made, if you're into that kind of thing...
Side note: Be sure to visit the Roosevelt memorial while in Washington - it will inspire you to be a better human being.

Nice and u I que place to see in Washington, DC.
Area is always busy and many events things to do going on especially on weekends.
It was constructed 1793-1800 as the home of the United States Congress and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government.
Jason K
The center of America at it's best. Historical beauty that brings home the best of what we can do and a country. Free tour lasting approx 1.5 hours presents a great tour for visitors and is a must see!
Marguerite Shipley
I went with a group of 18 people. We had a great tour guide. There was so much to look at, I would like to go back to study the paintings and statues more. The gift shop had some unique items. I got a refrigerator magnet, as usual. I also got a nice pair of earrings.

This was the last major attraction I saw during my one week trip here from 12/28/21 to 1/4/2022. You can see the Capital Building from several blocks away. I actually remembered I needed to stop by because I saw it after exiting the Children’s Museum.
It was a little after 5pm when we made it there. We say the reflecting pool, which is wider but shorter than the reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. Unlike the latter, the Capitol’s reflecting pool isn’t easily accessible to stuck your feet it. The view, however, was still nice.
This was my first time being in DC since I was in elementary school. It was extremely awesome to see the Capitol building. It was ironic that I had just watched Olympus Has Fallen on TV in my hotel just a day prior.
Unfortunately, the perimeter of the building is gated off due to the events that transpired a year ago. I’m saddened to see that public access still isn’t available. Of course COVID is an added barrier to tours. Going inside is something that I wanted to do. I did not go to the visitors center that is close by as my son was ready to go back to the hotel, lol. There was a large Christmas tree in the lawn area between the capital building and the reflecting pool. Many people were taking pictures and appeared to be having a good time.
I was grateful for the experience because I talked to my son (8) about what goes on in the building, the legislative bodies, and etc. I’m sure he’s forgotten everything we talked about but he can say he seen it in person whenever he does learn about it in school.

Very impressive building!!
Did a tour which took just over an hour and well worth the investment of time. Our tour guy Kevin was super knowledgeable about the US capital and Congress, found it very informative!
Paola Cruz
It was very interesting to be in a place with so much history. If you are a history buff, specifically American history, then it is definitely worth going on the tour. There is so much to learn and every room you walk into is beautiful and detailed. Also, our tour guide was very friendly and took the time to answer everyone’s questions. If you want to do more than the tour and explore everything the Capitol has to offer, it would definitely take about a half day.
Petre Ene
The home of the United States Congress and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. It is an impressive building. The United States Capitol Visitor Center, located below the East Front of the Capitol and its plaza, between the Capitol building and 1st Street East, opened on December 2, 2008. Unfortunately it is not open on holidays. You may want to visit in a work day.

Even if you don't go for a tour, the lawn and gardens surrounding the Capitol make for a wonderful walk. In the spring, the flowers are absolutely lovely and in winter, the hills make for a fun place to sled. There are great photo opportunities and it gives an awesome view down the national mall.
BradJill
We visited Washington DC in the winter of 2015 and enjoyed a tour at the U.S. Capital. Reservations were made in advance via the U.S. Capital website reservation pages. Entry is free but you still need a ticket as they only allow a certain number to pass through at the same time. We arrived around 30 minutes early as advised. This is necessary as all visitors much go through security checks prior to entering and collecting actual tickets.
Upon showing ticket confirmation paperwork, we were quickly given our tickets and actually allowed to enter a group line with a tour starting 15 minutes earlier than we were scheduled for. After watching a short video about the U.S. Capital and government, we were led into a holding area and put into several queues where a tour leader came and provided headset (with audio) for all within our group.
The tour guide was quite good, gave us important information in regards to the murals, statues and three rooms which we were allowed to visit. Photography is fine so you can take as many pictures as you like. However, you can't wonder away from your group and its important to try to keep up when your group is moving.
Overall, we enjoyed the approximately 45 minute tour and would recommend visitors to visit the U.S. Capital based on our experience. We would also suggest combining your visit with the Library of Congress, which is connected directly to the Capital, via an underground passage. Doing this allows you to avoid the long queue again required to clear security outside the Library of Congress. We would further suggest visiting the U.S. Capital first and then proceeding to the Library of Congress as you can visit freely, without a required tour there.
Tip: There is a decent cafeteria style food court at the U.S. Capital. We had cheesecake and chocolate cake here and coffee. The coffee was standard American brewed and the desserts were surprisingly good. There is also a souvenir and gift shop if you fancy making a purchase or two before leaving.
Tip: While visiting Capital Hill, we recommend also seeing the Library of Congress as suggested above. You may also want to visit the nearby Supreme Court and the U.S. Botanic Garden and Conservatory, found behind the U.S. Capital on the south side of The Mall, about 8-10 minute walk. A nice reflection pool and monuments to Ulysses S. Grant and James Garfield can be also seen behind the U.S. Capital, facing The Mall.

An amazing place to experience American History! Ask your Rep for a private tour, and you can take the time needed to soak it all in. Such a place of honor, we saw the old Senate Chamber and the old Supreme Court Chamber.
Lei Wang
We had a very nice visit here. The tour service is beyond & above my expectations! Our guide Mrs Suzanne D. is so knowledgeable about the history/buildings and very patient to answer every question.
The architecture and interior design are so inspiring.
Ken and Alicia Lund
Simply put, one of the most beautiful buildings in the entire world, not simply because of its fine aesthetic, but because of the ideals the Capitol building represents. A tour can easily be arranged with advance planning and is a must on any visit to Washington. The rotunda and the statutory hall are highlights. Look for the details in the painting, friezes, and sculptures throughout the Capitol.
Olivia Y.
Visiting the U.S. Capitol is an experience that should not be passed up. There's incredible views, picture taking opportunities, and much history to learn. Unfortunately, our tour guide was quite rude but it didn't get in the way of having a good time. Even had the chance to walk right by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. That's certainly not something that happens every day!
Isanka Wijerathne
You can't miss if you're visiting Washington DC! It's amazing to see building itself and standing for over 200 years. Museum also good. The museum is large but not too great.
Xish Xehman (Google Developer)
Nice place to visit. You can take a lot of good/cool pictures. Good opportunity to discuss some facts and history with your family (specially with your kids)..Super Labor Day weekend concert by the National Symphony Orchestra on the west lawn of the Capitol. Good security work by the Police and the Park Service to keep the concert safe for everyone.
Ric G
Call you US congressman's office for a tour, you won't regret it. We called 1 week before our trip and they took care of everything, Andres and Layla from cogressman Vicente Gonzalez's office were great. These staffers not only gave us a behind the scenes but it was great to talk politics with them. My congrssman was unfortunately not there but I'll catch him back home.
Divyanshu Mahajan
As iconic as the building is thanks to Hollywood, it truly is a beauty inside and outside. The history of the place is amazing as is the free tour organised by the Visitor center. You can even sit in a senate or House of Representatives session, which is a truly amazing experience (ask at the counter). It’s visible from so many areas of the national mall and is a very picturesque opportunity for some lovely angle shots.
Do remember to visit the Library of Congress, which can be explored through a tunnel with a security check (no queue or hassle of redoing the whole checking process)
Rassul Kassymbekov
That's the most monumental building in Washington DC. You can feel political atmosphere around it everywhere. What's interesting I was impressed with the Capitol than the White House.
Joseph Dutko
Impressive cannot properly describe the Capitol Building. However, our goal for this trip was to find the 4th identical statue's of Kamehameha of Hawaii. Having found the other 3 statue's on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii the quest was on to find the 4th. It is supposed to give you good luck, if you visit all 4. Now, while we're not a superstitious people, we thought well if there is a bit of good luck attached to it, what the heck, we're in! The statue was in great condition as it was out of the weather being inside. Well worth the trip.
The visitor center was full of all sorts of history, models of the building of the Capitol, and many statues, including the mold model for Statue of Freedom who stands atop the Capitol and is facing East. A bit of trivia, the Capitol's East side was planned and still serves, as its principal entrance (being the only front on level ground), therefore the Statue of Freedom was to face that direction to greet those who enter.
Eli305 Travel
Impressive experience. Try to go early morning and do the tour. Also the cafeteria is really good. Don’t miss the gift store .
Ganindu Madhawa
A place where one can probe into the political history of USA.
It is an iconic place and you need to reserve tickets beforehand visiting the place. You will be provided with a guide who give descriptive analysis of the architecture of the place and historical events. 😊 …
Mike Thimons
Beautiful building. If you don't have much time though, it takes forever to go through their tours and it is extremely boring. My sister and I snuck out early as did many others in our tour group.
Ivan Paredes
This is a beautiful building, it’s a must see if you find yourself in D.C.
Take your time to admire the surroundings and if you have the time go inside with a guided tour and maybe you’re lucky enough to see the Constitution in display.
Destinations Untold
Wow Washington DC is so impressive with grandeur and with the feel of Roman inspiration.
Also I think an overlooked or unknown Albert Einstein memorial is definitely worth seeing. Once you read how complicated and the thought that went into it, you'll have such greater appreciation for it.
I believe everyone should schedule the African American history museum, it's amazing. Do the guided tour and it'll open your mind.
Rachel Stenta
Loved the film and the tour. Wish we could have seen more! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Don’t miss it. Restorative experience.
Manisha Mayekar
Visited 2-3 times.. Recommend to visit on Sunday as street parking is free, parking can be an issue otherwise. The Christmas tree is really beautiful placed during the Christmas season

Most noticeable building in whole USA…
The United States Capitol, also known as Capitol Building, is the home of the United States Congress. it is based on one side of the national mall and another side is the Lincoln Memorial. capitol building-Washington monument-world war memorial II- Lincoln memorial is in one straight line called a national mall. It has housed the meeting chambers of the House of Representatives and the Senate. by registering online, you can get a free tour of Capitol (same for the white house too). isn't that cool? I did not get a chance to take the tour as we were here only for a weekend.
View of Capitol building looks stunning from Lincoln memorial- Washington monument and the park.
Santhosh DR
Situated at one end of the National Mall, this imposing building is the seat of the legislative branch of the US federal government and one of the business cards of the city, surrounded by gardens and reflecting pools where the famous squirrels, make this place very cozy, we can be standing there a little to appreciate all this wonderful landscape! At the back (near the Congress library) there is an area dedicated to guests with eating area and bathroom that help a lot to those who walk to go the whole area of the National Mall. If you have time I recommend a visit to the interior, it is worth!
Not Real
It was pretty amazing to be here in Washington DC and was able to see the Capitol building and it was OK. The building was pretty but it was fenced off and closed which was pretty annoying.
Overall i will give it a 3 stars since i could not get inside. Pretty sad, someone might start Riot because of this.
G Tom
I haven't been back to DC for years. Definitely call your representative or senator to set up a tour of the capitol. Luckily, I got a guided tour from our respected senior senator's aide. It was fun to go places were most people weren't allowed to go or did not have to Saturday attached to a tour group. Riding on the train was also fun. Definitely would recommend a visit to just see where things get done in the capitol no matter how you feel about the current adminstration.
Vidhi Shrivastava
The infrastructure of the Capitol building is magnificent, large and beauty in white. One can reach here if you’re covering everything in the sequence from Lincoln memorial to Washington memorial till here. Walking is really very difficult so suggest some mode of commute for this. Your senator will give you formal permission to go inside it. It’s very not only very knowledgeable tour but also you will be glad to witness great architecture and hear some stories by a tour guide. You have to be careful about parking.
Piotr Sternalski
Amazing place to go to for a tour and visit the US Capitol. The tours are very well run. However, be ready to wait in a long line for security checks (up to 40 min) and later again in the line for the tickets validation even if you booked a visit via internet. Admission is for free.
You can use a tunnel and go directly to the Library of Congress. This way you will skip a line at the Library’s entrance.
The lunch self service restaurant was surprisingly very good.
Nich
I spent 1 hour here to "gaze with veneration". But that time was not enough to me to idolization that building. I could not go inside, because that day was closing. It is a masterpiece of construction. I admire that. I took many picture outside of that building. I hope I will come back to visit inside that building
BuZgal
we came here at night time and we noticed that during that Time parking was not difficult.
in reality we only came up to the building and took some photos in front of the night lighted building as well as of the other monuments in the city that we could see from there.
this is a cool place to visit for sure, it is a must when around town.
I did not go inside so I can't say how it works to get inside or if people are allowed inside at all for that matter.
But I cannot stress enough that this is a must when coming to town.
Carlos Pulquerio
I think it was a great place to come and enjoy the views. Lots of tourists. We rode the city bikes all around the city and stopped there just to hangout. Definitely anyone should visit the Capitol at least once.
Georgia Craig
We stumbled into the Capitol as it was rainy, and got on a free tour, and it really exceeded our expectations. The headphones to listen to our tour guide is a really clever idea as there’s nothing worse than being on a tour and not being able to hear. Gave a really good introduction to US politics. You can see the stunning architecture and the paintings. I’d 100% recommend. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, engaging and entertaining. I loved it.
BILL CHEN
The United States Capitol Hill is a magnificent building that symbolizes freedom and democracy. It symbolizes the best authorities in the United States. There are many people to visit and it is necessary to queue up early. There is a lot of outside parking spaces that require permission. It's really hard to park around, but there are many indoor parking lots nearby. Come on, the botanical garden next to cherry blossoms this season is also worth walking.
Nathan
Probably the most impressive building I've had the chance to visit in my entire life. I'm a huge fan of neoclassical architecture and this building, as a whole, is a superb achievement. The building sits imposing on a hill, dominating the National Mall, directly looking to the astonishing Washington Monument obelisk and to the "Parthenon inspired" Lincoln Memorial building.
Jr Wiggles
You probably know what this is, unless you've been living under a rock! The US capitol is something you should definitely see. Midly crowdy on a Monday evening, but that's expected. Very nice and clean walk around the building with loads of seating and picture areas! Again, a must visit if you're a tourist!!!
Jake Wolfe
Strictly speaking architecturally, this is a beautiful monument to democracy (or, more accurately, republic/representation), regardless on opinions on who sits and what happens (or doesn't happen) inside. Something about the Capitol Dome and its two even sides just feels... equal. Perhaps it's something akin to the idea behind King Arthur's round table, where none were at the "head", and all sat in the same place. Regardless, visually, it works. If only every person who saw it or stepped inside it were as sentimental or philosophical about it...
Shawn w
Great tour was able to walk on the floor of the house of representatives, I still don't know what the small red button on the back of the seat is for. The speakers balcony was also open.
Anas Shebli
Beautiful building on massive land. Rotunda under construction. The visitors center offers free limited tours. Highly recommend for sight seeing in DC.
Tausif Baber
Its on a walking distance from central bus station and one can have walking tour of the Capitol and near by attractions. Nice view from bus station as well as from front and back side of the building. Since there are many attractions near by so you may not cover all areas. Better spend 2 days to fully explore the area around.
Sunimal Rathnayake
Some says this is the place which rules the whole world.. it’s kind of right 😜
Visited in 2015 summer and at that time Capitol building was under construction and guess what, free access to the ground area. Not that big I have imagined when I seen in the tv..
Landscaping and the structure of the building was mind blowing.. the unmistakable Dome reminds me descriptions in Davinci Code book.
Ed McLatchie
No problem getting a ticket the night before on line. Excellent guide tour. Very interesting. Airport security.
Brenda
I enjoyed getting some photos but was disappointed we weren't allowed to get closer, to the Capitol, on our trolley tour.
Rickey Jewkes
Great tour that covers a lot of history. The only drawback is actually getting on a tour. It’s ALWAYS busy. Try and get in through your senator’s office staff, that’s the best way to get in quickly.
Steph Onyskiw
We learnt a lot about the history of Congress. The free tour was very informative. An impressive building with impressive history. Well worth the visit

You must visit IT.
Its Beautiful
Samantha Jones
It was great to be able to check out our US capital building. From the steps you can turn around and see all the way to the Washington Memorial. Note... where to park is confusing. Most of the nearby spots are reserve and not available.
Suji Mao
The Capitola South Metro Station is the closest to this building. You have enter through the visitor's center which is located underneath the buildings. Upon entry you will have to go through a security check and watch an informative 12 minute documentary. You don't necessarily need a reservation but you can book one ahead of time it's recommended for large groups. You will need special passes from your state rep. to see the House and Senate

Beautiful building, I don't know why you would miss this if you were ever in D.C., but just in case you are in a hurry, this is one of the must sees. Many shops and places to eat as well nearby.
Peace B
As expected amazing architecture. Massive building and is very beautiful. Every landmark in DC is spectacular. We dint do the tour this time so just talking about the exteriors. We parked right across the street and went around to see the rest of the places. we reached there at around 4:30pm probably thats the reason parking was still available not sure how jam packed the place would be at other times of the day.
Rob Beers
What a great tour. Super knowledgeable and and friendly guide. We were reminded of a lot of the history of this great nation and learned a lot more.
Chase H
If you are in DC, you should definitely try and take a tour of the United States Capital building. The history and architecture in there are stunning.
Mya Malone
Pretty cool to see! Was busy on a Monday when I went but still worth it if you have nothing to do. It is a bit under construction.
Geckozattack
They let us in for a tour, was great
Nihal Acharya
A Brief History of United States packed into a very informative 45 minute tour of the Capitol. Starts off with a movie before the tour begins. The tour guides are extremely thorough and know pretty much everything there is to know about every statue and painting.
The Library of Congress is adjacent to the Capitol and connected by an underground passage. Best to visit it after the tour.
Jered High
It is a great place to go if you are interested in the history of our country. The tour guide was friendly and helpful. There is lots of security which can be expected at a place like this. It is a nice place to go if you are into photography. Be sure to check out the library of Congress as well. Be prepared to walk for a while and for lots of people.
AJ Hope
My family and I booked a personal tour with our state's congressman. His staff set up a tour and my wife and two kiddos had an amazing walk through of the capital. His interns were amazing. They spent about 4 hours walking us around before we were pretty much spent. We had not eaten before the tour and the tour started at noon. So with only breakfast that morning by 4 we needed food. All of the cafe shops in the buildings close at 2:30. On top of that, the vending spots do not take cash! Are you kidding me?? So this was another factor in the cut off of our tour. Keep in mind we cut the tour short not them. I feel certain we walked over four miles based on my garmin watch. I would Highly recommend calling your congressman or woman before you travel to DC and sweet that up. You will learn a lot and be moved at the history behind our nation and our capital.
Lenny Silencio
Ansolutely magnificent landmark. A must see place. Close by are Botanic conservatory and national garden where you could take a break from seeing Washingtons museums and monuments.

This is the most important building of United States where important decisions are taken. There is always long queue to enter this building. 50 dollar note has this building.
Sanka Illangakoon
Finally got to see the famous building in all its glory. The architecture is good although it's not in par with the European counterparts. Overall a good place to visit.
Edward Hutchinson
Really cool to see pur Nation's Capital. Very exciting to visit so many cool American, historical places. Don't pass up the opportunity.

Yusra Nabeel
Such a great experience visiting one of the US symbols. Great place with beautiful reflection in pool.
Daniel Ciucci
Contact your House Representative for free tour information and you can get to other places not in the standard tour from the visitor center.
Debisree Ray
The most iconic building in the world history of democracy and politics. It symbolizes world’s oldest democracy. Even if these do not bother, you must visit, for the sake of architecture of the building. The arena is wonderful. There are some guided tours inside, which you must take. There are several online sites, where you can reserve these tours. You need to research them much ahead, otherwise you might not get them. These are always in big demand! Also, the tour might take at least 2-3 hours. So your entire Capitol Hill trip can take a good 3-4 hours. Plan accordingly. Again, it’s highly recommended and a must visit while you are in DC area.
Abdullah Alahmadi
Respectful place
CJ
Beautiful experience to see the building and surrounding grounds. We didn’t do a tour, but you can simply walk around it and enjoy.

We had an amazing time in our tour of this location. The staff was super friendly and we got to see a lot on the tour. It was very educating and it gave us a bigger picture of our countries history. Well worth the tour.
James Garrard
I had a fun time here learning the history of capital. The tour guides were great. Marcus was awesome, hilarious, and made sure we had a great time.
Fabian Raygosa
Can book early or just go. But book if you want to be sure. Do not go for the politics. Go for the architecture.
Jeremy Richard
So much history in a single place. Very impressive. A bit disappointment due to dome restoration, we won't have been able to see all the paintings. Very nice guide!
Making Ice
Great tours, if you have your rep take you on private tour.
Rohan
Superb building. Make sure to spend enough time. Visit just before sunset. There is tour whose last batch is at 3.30 pm.
Petar Todorov Makaveev
A public tour was provided free of charge. I was able to book tickets the previous day which is fantastic.
Zachary Triano
Highly recommend a visit to the Capitol. Book through your local Congress person and enjoy a tour. Highly recommended.
Jared Knelsen
The United States Capitol Building is a fantastic place to visit and explore. I was pleasantly surprised several days ago when I visited. I got to visit the House of Representatives and witness the daily prayer. It's surreal visiting the building that so many influential people have walked and worked in. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining. And the gift shops had plenty of American made products that I had a hard time choosing between.
Joshua
Tours are well organized and informative, just make sure you get (free) passes in advance or go during an off season.
Nizar Farsakh
Loved it. Great for kids. Several busts of famous Americans as well as a few non-Americans too. Guides are
Laura Ramirez
I came at night and it was very enjoyable. Not a lot of people but was still able to see the building. Walked around and felt safe in the area. Recommend for cool photos
Gabriela Resendez
Great view from across the street. Lawn right up to the steps. No boundaries like at the White House. Great to see during sunset. Short walk from the museum's in the National Mall.
Daveletics
Very crowded place but nice to see once. Hard to make pictures because of that many people. It is possible and recommended to reserve places in tours online.
David Borger Germann
Call your local congress representative before coming to see if they have staff available for a tour. Ours did (thanks, Loebsack!), and it was great. We could go at our own pace and take time with our kids. Please note the horrific anti-Native American works of art. Change them or not, they testify to the awful treatment of native peoples on this continent.
RepFashion LuxBoy
Visiting the US Capitol is a must! Make sure to carry water and keep hydrated at all times.
Nuha Haider
Piece of artwork beautiful view park and visitor center ready to walk and walk
Soumya Khatri
A great place to visit but avoid national holidays its way too crowded no parking and difficult with kids
Shawn Wu
really nice place. the tour was nice and they let you see house of representives and the senate
Soulbella BDBunting
Let's all go and get in "good trouble". One person can make a difference. Equality, fairness, truthfulness and justice is what Congressman John Lewis, "the moral conscience of the Congress" stood for and we can too.
Cary Brown
A tour of the UNITED STATES CAPITOL is an opportunity to see our country's history, told through the political eyes of those who govern us.
Both the White House (1792) and the Capitol (1793) were partially constructed by enslaved Americans.
A small gallery, located next to the Rotunda, contains well presented historical artifacts, that provide a surprisingly honest chronicle of America's troubled years.
Public tours are offered at no charge. Be sure to make an online reservation. Visitors enter through the Capitol Visitor Center, which is located underground, on the east side of the Capitol. The professional guides are friendly and knowledgeable.
Or, contact the local office of one of your state's senators or representatives, to arrange a no charge, personal guided tour. Politicians like to hear from their constituents. This behind the scene tour is conducted by one of their staff. Depending on who is the guide, you'll get an insider's view of how Congress really works.
Follow the signs which identify the visitors entrance. Present a copy of your reservation. You are required to pass through security when entering the Capital.
If Congress is in session, arrangements maybe made, for guests to view the Senate or House from their galleries (balconies). Surrendering your cell phone is required before entering either chamber. It is returned when you leave.
As you pass through the halls of Congress you are more than likely to recognize an Elective or two.
Every state provides two marble or bronze statues to be displayed in the National Statuary Hall.
For example: Sculptor Chas Fagan's, bronze statue of President Ronald Reagan and Ettore Cadorin's bronze statue of Roman Catholic Priest Junípero Serra. The latter is credited with establishing the twelve Spanish missions, from San Diego to San Francisco, in the 1700s, that grew into modern California.
Both liberal and conservative ideology are displayed in the selection of art and in the free, large screen movie. Throughout the building, frescos and murals illustrate the American tale.
A private subway connects three of the Senate office buildings, and one of the five House office buildings. (Not for public use.)
There are two gift shops, one on the Senate side and an exact duplicate on the House side. (Separate, but equal.)
The facility is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms.
Bring comfortable shoes. There's lots of walking.
Clemens Heller
Can highly recommend the tour. At first you get a short introduction movie about U.S. democracy and the building. Afterwards you get a 40 minutes tour with a guide and interesting stories.
Talia
Very memorable experience! There's many things to do from the visitor center to the the actual tour of the building. The history is too rich!
Craig Benner
Seldom seen or appreciated is the original Supreme Court in the basement of the Capitol. When you get your tour, work with your local state legislator to get a behind the scenes view of the Capitol and you will not be disappointed. Either arrange this in advance before your trip to DC (preferred ), or stop by their respective office while in DC. Most legislators are happy to meet their constituents.
CTL
If you got a chance visiting Washington DC, do not miss the Capitol, especially those who are interested in the US history. You could sign up for free guided tour online.
George Mwasumbi
Didn't actually get to go inside due to the lack of time, but the building itself is an impressive sight, and can be seen from quite a distance while walking through the streets of DC.
Nick Webster
Beautifully renovated, the capital of this great nation must be visited when you are in the area. A wonderful building I love to walk the grounds.
Greg Rosenberg
It was amazing to see the US Capitol in person! It's such an iconic landmark where important decisions are made on a regular basis. I strongly recommend taking a guided tour of the the Capitol-- you'll learn so much!
Jason J. L
I go there almost twice a week as a tour guide, the tour guides inside the Capitol are also very friendly , normal they will allow me to translate what they said to my customers since most of them are mandarin speakers. Weekdays are normally busier than weekends. The best time to take a picture of the eastern front is before noon when the weather is nice, and for western side, you could either do earlier in the morning when the sun is still gentle or afternoon. The drop off location for bus is near the Garfield cycle, there is a handicap shuttle station nearby, the staffs there are always ready to provide shuttle services to the elderly and disables. The Capitol open Monday through Saturday from 8:30-4:30. At around 4:00pm there will be no more in-deep tour, but 10 mins quick tour to the dome.
Cher Marsino
The tour was quick to get on since forgot to pre get tickets but the tour felt rushed. I wanted more time to look at the statues and paintings but just rushed in to the next room. Seeing the Senate that was in session was awesome!
Maria Loera
Beautiful building full of fun historical facts and quirks. Definitely worth the visit.
Cortney JB
Just wow! We contacted our state representative in advance to arrange a tour. My husband and I were taken by an aid with a group of students from the representative's office to the Capitol Building via underground tunnel. My favorite stop - and probably everyone's - was the rotunda. I hadn't expected to be so wowed by the architecture of the rotunda itself, and the amazing art collection housed there. I think this tour would be pretty boring for young kids, but amazing to adults or teenagers with an interest in American History.
Austin Graff
Not only is this one of the best spots/tours in the city, but also one that is easier for tourists to get tickets to (Simply walk into your Representative's office and ask for tickets and an intern tour guide). If you don't get tickets, you can still visit the relatively new visitor's center to get a history lesson of one of America's most recognizable buildings. If you get a tour through your Rep, the tour becomes interactive as you walk through the building's chambers and even the dome. It's truly one of the most beautiful buildings in the US. If you have tickets, be sure to get additional tickets to witness Congress in session. It's a bit boring, but the novelty of witnessing it will keep your interest for at least 5-10 minutes.
Paul Onderwater
A lovely piece of architecture and from the steps you can view down the Mall.
Beautiful view and well worth the visit.
If you are up for it, walk around all the monuments around the Mall as well.
Isaiah Steinbrecher
Wonderful experience going to visit this place. Land of the free and the brave.
Matt Treasure
Amazing place. Well worth a visit. The tour guides are brilliant.
Matthew Wagner
It was an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity to go there and up to the top.
Shanna Schweitzer
Take a Capitol tour. My favorite part was the old Capitol portion where the nation's legislators met to debate slavery, economy, and policies that kept our Union together in the decades prior to the Civil War.
Andrew Kim
I visited the capitol, the home of our congress. The tour was a bit lackluster... there was nothing really special about this place, other then the fact that congress meet and pass legislation here. My tour didn't really go into the place where the president holds the state of the union address or anything. I would say skip this if you don't have the time.
Christa Norton
Was under construction when I was here but regardless the interior is gorgeous.
Waylen Gael
Great customer service. Ill be coming back mostly because of the vibe he brings to the spot.
Tom Blessie
Pretty cool place. There was lots of construction going on so I didn't get to make it near the building but still a neat place to see
Ev. P.
The building is quite imposing, as is his history. I didn't have the chance to go inside as it was late but I admired the magnificence of the outside.
Martin Tsanev
It is a place you need to see while you visit Washington. It is a historic building with great atmosphere. Unfortunately the fence around doesn't allow to get closer. It is also recommendable to take some pictures in the evening. It is a beautiful and you should not miss it
Shamanne X
That a point you have to see. But don't bring drinks and food inside. You have to eat that outside😮 …
Rafa Gómez
Great architecture and has a quick tour to get to know it.
Ny Ny Nguyễn Phạm
Nice building
Nice lawn around the building

My Grandmother Maria Dolores Santos is a victim of Neglect from The Doctors In Hershey and Harrisburg Specially Moravia Health Located In Harrisburg, Pa.
Ryan Barrett
Great tour! Very well organized. Good veting process, orientation, and active tour. Great tour guides.
Jordan R (J)
Do yourself a favor and do some footwork before coming here. Contact your representative in Congress for a staff tour. I feel like it was much more informative and intimate than those large group tours, plus IT'S FREE.
An added bonus: if your Rep is in a leadership role, you get to see some nifty stuff like their extra offices. Steve Scalise is the Majority Whip, so we got to see the Lincoln Room (complete with an escape tunnel!).
One thing though: if you're on a private tour, make sure you get pictures of the Rotunda and Statuary Hall BEFORE you go back downstairs to the House/Senate galleries. We missed out on taking photos of one of our state's statues and didn't want to go through the trouble of getting on a tour group to do it.
After that, go spend the day watching the House and/or Senate in action. If you're lucky, they'll all be there voting on a measure. Got to watch John McCain speak, and was 30-odd feet away from Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, so it was a really great experience.
Rose Baglieri
Beautiful experience. I appreciated it much more than the previous two times I had been here. The best unexpected thing was having the Vice President pass in front of you during our tour.
Subramaniam V
awesome to see the real place where all the legal proceedings take place!! would have loved to see AOC ;)
N&N D
Only walked outside, didn't go round capitol as it was late at night. Still worth going to have a walk round.
Amanda Miller-Selby
Worth the money, students enjoyed the History lesson, kept their attention!

Part of the US history, resembles Havana Capitol (Cuba) and unique on its design. A must go place in Washington D.C, full of history and great environment.
Jayson Auterino
Definitely recommend getting a personal tour from your representative's office. The public tour is crowded and limited in what you see. But beautiful architecture and decor.
Nathan Williams
May Holy Christ the Lord Jesus in heaven Bless all of America.
T Miller
Took the private tour through are congressman. Had a blast learning about and seeing the history of our nation.
Martin Košek
One of the most visible Washington buildings, being on the hill. Worth the visit, even just from outside. Very impressive building.
Hung Nguyen
Another beautiful building in Washington DC. I wonder what the views from the top would be like.
Jurek Różycki
A great place to visit when in Washington. The building is impressive and fun to walk around.
John David Williamson
Such an impressive site ... hard to really appreciate its sheer size without seeing in person. Definitely worth the tour ... especially if you're able to see inside chambers.
Alexis F.
Lovely ambiance to an evening stroll, especially because that's when you can have the National Mall all to yourself. It's beautiful when it's all lit up. Take a run by it in the morning for a peaceful workout.
Katherine Walter
Our tour guide, Scott Jung was very informative and humorous!
Sergio Hernandez
Amazingly beautiful. You can feel the history all around you. You get a true sense of honor and patriotism as you walk and see the product of the strength and determination put forth by those who built this great nation.

5 mins walking from Union Station. Easily accessible. Free of cost to see and visit it. It also serves as a starting point and if you walk straight from it, you'll encounter The Monument, Lincoln Memorial Park, along with many Museums in between.
Ali Shajarizadeh
This beautiful building is a must-see for everyone who visit Washington DC. The building has a long history. The place is where many important decisions were and are made that affects the world.
Victor Herrada
Awesome displays and very detailed info on the displays. The detail on the building itself is stunning!
Owen Oswald
The visitors center is pretty cool and I enjoyed looking around the isles.
Jody Knight
Loved being able to take part in our Nations capital. A must see
Chad Wray
So fun and interesting. Our guide at the capitol, Nick Bulock, was so engaging. His knowledge of everything was remarkable.
Victor M Vazquez Jr
A great opportunity to visit the Office of our Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, El Paso, TX
Ashish Mittal
Construction was going on when I visited it last place. Nearby garden was very well maintained.
Hayden Hollman
This place was a wonderful experience to tour. There was a lot of interesting things to see, from the architecture of the building its self. To the paintings ant statues in side. I would go back again if I could. The only thing I disliked during the tour was how packed the places was. But other than that, if your going to DC, I highly recommend getting a tour of this magnificent place.
Dayker
Great place to visit, beautiful surrounds, amazing at night and at day, well worth the visit.
Kevin Smith
An absolutely must SEE for all US citizens!! Is an absolutely amazing place. The history alone is worth it. Rich in stature with plenty of paintings and sculptures. The beauty of it all is breathtaking. Being able to see the both the House and Senate debate while seating in the gallery is amazing and very awe inspiring. Security is tight so don’t bring a lot with you. Well worth the time and wait!!
Valentina Avramidi
Fantastic place, a lot of history and beauty
Mu Midani
Great place. Dominant presence. It was nice to hear about the locations and elevation of the main buildings in DC. So symbolic.
Ruofei Du
Gorgeous architecture and a must-to-see sight!
Dr.Debasree Biswas
Well there was no tour. It was closed. But the giant christmas tree in the Capitol grounds was splendid. Especially when the lights came on in the evening. We hung around on the ground to check the lights out.
Ali Majaz
Cool place, very rich in American history although I wish the guides working there inside the capitol were a little more open to questions and a little more friendly.
Damianos Chronakis
Impressive building and surroundings!
Ember Sam
Such an amazing place to visit. Such a beauty to witness seem like I was in some Museum. Breathtaking paintings, photographs and sculptures enhanced its beauty. All memories of the past so much to see. A must visit when in Washington d.c. so many people in queues to take tour. Its was so easy so book online. Everything was so well organized and very well explained 😊😊😊😊
Gautam
Inspiring tour, amazing short film on the history of Liberty
Mark Cruz
Definitely worth visiting. A guided tour is the best option. There are so many interesting stories to hear about the building itself and the people who have served there. I like the clear days. The Capitol building looks stunning in the sunlight.
Milk
absolutely beautiful. i could spend hours here
Sambit Supriya Dash
Good place to roam around, the architecture is so beautiful. The colour which strikes our eyes, blue, white and green wherever we see! (October, 2019) I love this place and the weather was so goooood too.
Taylor Stewart
This is a must visit in Washington D.C. The capital building is absolutely gorgeous. In the spring time there are many flowers and trees surrounding it to make it even better. The fountain in the front is very unique and perfect for pictures with the building. They have gates up with guards so you can't get really close. I think they do tours but you would have to research that on the website.
Kevin P
The experience of touring this place is incredible. You get to see such cool rooms and art. I learned a lot on the tour, and wish I had booked through my representative so I could've gotten a gallery pass, but that means I'll have to come back and do it next time!
María Inés Labadie
This is a magnificent building with a really interesting history. The guided tour is really worth it, all guides are well prepared and willing to answer all of your questions. You can tell they know a lot about the Capitol and America’s history. The tour does not include visiting the House and Senate chambers, but it’s quite easy to get a pass once you’re there. All of the staff is very helpful and polite.
I wouldn’t recommend eating at the cafeteria, the food is not good and it’s quite expensive.
Charlotte
Fantastic free tour. We did the pentagon tour first and were very disappointed so this tour was a nice surprise!
We booked a few weeks ahead and arrived before our time slot so they moved us up to the earlier tour. You are given a headset so it’s easy to hear your guide. The tour covers some of the major rooms, history of the building and the statues.
Overall it was very interesting and a beautiful building to visit if you are in DC
Dmytro Momot (Dimich)
Very very interesting, but just several halls, and the rest can not be seen
Leafar Lee
Beautiful building and good free tours! The tour guide explains about the history of the Capitol and shows the most important rooms. We loved it very much! I definitely recommend it if you are in DC! Also you don't need to have a reservation (you can but you don't need to). Restrooms are very clean. It's well located at the eastern end of the National Mall (not far from the National museum of Natural History, National Archives Museum, Hirshhorn Museum, Sculpture Garden and the National Air and Space museum).
Thanks for all! United States Capitol Visitor Center.
Andy Kreul
Had an excellent time on this tour.
bloodlust red
Very impressive and historic.
Well knowledges guides.
Carlos Abreu
Went here for a school trip this past May. Very very beautiful. Would definitely come back sometime.
Ali Burak Saracoglu
This place is where the nation’s heart stands and I truly believe every DC tour should start here. You can just walk in for a free guided tour and feel the strength of the union as you walk by different chambers. Doesn’t matter where you stand in the political spectrum, a tour in the Capitol would make you wanna be a better citizen. All the tour guides are really ambitious and happy with their work and their knowledge of history is amazing. Definitely a must do in DC!
Jack Salcedo
A pretty organized and smooth tour experience overall. Tour guides were nice and informative. However I have to admit the tour fell a bit short of my expectations. We only got to see three separate rooms (although the rotunda was cool) and spend about 10-15 mins in each room with a ton of other people which made it feel like we were being shepherded around. Wish we could've seen more but overall the experience was alright.
Kevin Loeffler
Bustling with activity and history. Security checkpoints can be a hassle.
Mark Skinner
Enjoyed the opportunity to tour the capital and see how elected citizens serve our country. Place has a lot of influence.
Pascal Bichon
I did the 45min visit which includes a short movie and a tour with a very knowledgeable guide.
Angela V
We ended up doing a tour and it was so nice. If you get a chance go and you won't be disappointed. There is a cafeteria inside that isn't too bad but pretty pricey for what you get. It is also neat that it is connected to The Library of Congress. So you can just walk a short walk through the tunnel and check that out next.
Brett Powell
Great place to visit and get a free history lesson.
Ninja Squad
The tour is excellent and they are brilliant to make you wear dedicated headphones connected to your tour guide so you can hear them. Our tour guide was very funny and super knowledgeable. As we moved from each beautiful room with intricate statues of famous politicians, she would ask everyone which state they were from and then make sure to tell them interesting facts about people represented in each room. There is so much to see and history abounds. A truly awe inspiring place.
See Joy Explores
A really magnificent building in Washington DC. This is a very famous landmark. It has a beautiful and spectacular architecture. This white dome shaped building catches the eyes of everyone. The capitol is visible from everywhere. The premises are very beautiful. There are several cherry blossom trees in the surroundings and in Spring season the trees are completely filled with flowers everywhere. It's such a heavenly atmosphere !!
Mamunur Rashid
Beautiful Architecture. The Symbol of Justice. A must visit place.
Scratch _Thinker
The experience is absolutely amazing !!! If you only live once this is something you gotta check out . Second time here and you see things you didn't the last time .
Ying Ting Huang
The pool is nice to take pictures.
Varun Avari Kapoor
The tour around the place was really good and very historical. Our guide was a very good one. He stated all of the states statues and made it a priority to remember where everyone in our group came from so that he could point out their statues to them. The history in there was very fascinating, but you couldn’t see much of the capitol if you didn’t have a tour. But it was relatively easy to get one once you got past security, and the rest was very amazing.
John Lucas
Usually busy, but It's a must see for anyone visiting D.C.
Sabrina Corpac
Visiting the US Capitol was one of the best highlights of my Washington DC trip.
I highly recommend creating an account in their Advance Reservation System and scheduling a tour at least three months before the DC trip. There are other tours, like the House and Senate floors, and the North Garden. Check their North Desk for additional touring information- but still schedule at least the main tour months before. Go to your tour line at least ten minutes before your tour time. It’s 45 minutes to an hour (whether you want to count the introduction video). The tour guide was helpful and knowledgeable. I don’t remember her name but guide was a blue-eyed brunette with an optimistic personality. The Capitol is a very popular attraction so expect hundreds of people inside and out.
There’s a lot of history and art in one building. Statues containing heroes from each state. The Michelangelo like fresco painting on the ceiling of the Capitol, containing Washington in the center and a lot of symbols. Paintings containing highlights from early US host.
There’s also a hallway connecting to the Library of Congress so if you have a lot of time before or after your tour, check that place out as well.
Also has a gift shop with interesting souvenirs, and a nice cafe with a variety of American food and Pepsi products.
Thomas Beuraud
If you’re visiting DC as a foreigner, this is a must see! Booking a tour is fairly easy and free. Although, you don’t get to visit the chambers ; the rotunda itself makes the visit worth it.
Special shoutout to our tour guide which was quite funny and knowledgeable.
Carlos Escalante
Overall an excellent experience. The reception area and grounds are very nice, the movie and tour of the rotunda was well presented. The cafeteria was clean and offered good choices for all during lunch hours. It would be hard to improve the experience of visiting the Capital. Really liked the tunnel system to the library of Congress.
Rachel
We signed up for the tour when we visited, and it was a good way to learn a little bit more about the Capitol building and what goes on in it. Our tour guide was really good. The tour is not very long or comprehensive, but it's still worth it.
Andrew Stoffel
The best place to pray for the President and his elected officials.
Yumi Jo
It's good to tour because they organize in convenient. So I know more about U.S.A.
Erik Mannery
Beautiful building - don't forget to look up a lot, there is also something new that you will see! The Senate and House chambers were a little surreal to see and the House had a vote going which was fun to sit in on. It was great to get to visit a huge part in the history of democracy.
Mallika Rajasekaran
Must visit place if you are in Washington. Morning is better time to visit from photography perspective.
G Aquino
This is where the country's legislature (Senate and House of Representatives) meet, and is also the site of many important events in the country's history, so a trip to DC is not complete without visiting.
There are several things to do as a visitor:
1) You can walk around the massive outdoor grounds and take pictures of the beautiful building and monuments. You might even see a protest going on.
2) If you want to see the inside of the building, head to the Visitor Center at the east side of the capitol. You go through a security check first - make sure you don't have items you'd normally be prohibited from carrying at airports. Once you're in, you can request for free passes to the guided tours that they run many times a day. These 45-minute tours are well-run and take you to the capitol's rotunda/dome and crypt, where you can really get a sense of the history of the place. Photography is allowed.
The free passes are subject to availability, so to get guaranteed spots, book in advance via their website and show up at your appointed time. If you don't get passes for some reason, you can check out the gift shop and restaurant at the Visitor Center.
3) Visit the congressional halls where you can see the galleries and even watch proceedings if the legislature is in session. This requires separate passes and must be booked in advance via a senator or congressperson's office.
So 1 and 2 are pretty straightforward, but 3 requires some planning. All are definitely worth your time.

People here were professional and friendly, and it was a good and quick experience. Although the actual building itself was closed for some long-running renovations, we were able to see the museum and visitor center below the building. Our tour guide, who we were able to choose and chose at random, was the best part. The guy's name was Mr. Blair, and he was fluent in 7 languages and could greet visitors in 61 more. He was an old guy but super fun to tour the building with - he had a true knowledge of what he was talking about. I would recommend getting in his group if possible!
Mark Wilkin
Great tour with lots of fascinating facts and stories. Being there during the work day is a little like being in Hollywood as you'll likely spot famous Congress members if you keep an eye out for them. We had one stop our group to ask where we were from and then filled us in on his background. It was nice to see him in his "natural habitat". If you enjoy architecture, the building can't be missed. Most people don't realize how much has changed in the construction/reconstruction of the dome over time.
Karissa Eckert
We took the tunnel from the Library of Congress over to the Capital Building. Ended up arriving at the Capital Building right in time to start a tour. They played a nice 15-20 minute video on the history of the Capital Building and then you get to go up into the dome and view some of the other rooms.
This is some amazing history and architecture. The tour took about an hour and was well worth it. The tour is free but you do need to get timed tickets. Additionally the cafeteria in the Capital Building is reasonably priced and has very good food. We enjoyed our lunch here too! Definitely a recommended stop for any trip to DC.
Josiah Dahlstrom
Sign up for the tour with your state senator. Great way to look around.
Brett Noorda
Rating the Capital Tour here. Going in I was very skeptical--I find most tours kinda boring and uninformative. This tour, however, was great. First, you get headphones so you can always hear your guide, even when you are way across the room (as I often was looking at this painting or that statue). Our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly answered every question our group could throw at him. The art (paintings, sculptures, architecture) was impressive, and my only regret about this tour is not having A LOT more time to spend taking it all in.
Rachel Gibson
Great place to visit with a family when in D.C. kids loved it and got to learn some history
Brian Hammett
This place offers a fantastic tour of one of our country's most iconic buildings. They provide an informational film that covers the history of the of the building before you take a walking tour of the building. Starting with the rotunda under the dome. They have a series of paintings and murals associated with the history of the United States. You then travel to "Whisper Room" where acoustics allow an individual to here talk across the room with clarity. The last place you get to visit is the crypt where you can see a marker representing the true center of Washington DC. Overall this is a interesting fact-filled trip that I recommend for all visitors to Washington.
Kyle W.
Amazing experience, friendly tour guide. Fun and informative.
Megan Williams
The visitor center is beautiful and well built. Signs are very clear as well. You can reserve your tour spots online, but you may need to reserve them more than a day in advance. We did not have advance reservation but were able to get spots in the next tour midmorning. The tour was relatively short but you got to see statues from all the states as well as the beautiful rotunda. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Payton R
Great place to visit for your bucket list and has food if you are there during lunch. Also there are tours if you enjoy learning about the history of the buildings and I was surprised how interesting it was. However, lines can be long with the increase of security lately.
Aimee Lim
It was first time to visit here and its is beautiful place. Well maintained and good for educational tours. The staff are polite and friendly. Gets crowded so come early. The souvenier shop has a lot of stuff. We went there during the cherry blossom festival. Tons of people around. But it is worth the drive. A must visit place.
Matt
So much history in one place. Do yourself a favor and come visit in person.
Charlie
Great tours by our representatives interns. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Beautiful state donated statues and gorgeous architecture. Staff around historical places are courteous and helpful and willing to answer whatever questions they can. Be sure to take lots of pictures and have open ears
Micah Covey
Outstanding place of government! Loved walking through this building learning our United States history! Have been here three different times and have always enjoyed it! Visiting the Senate chamber is awesome! Great place to share the Gospel!
Anastasia G (Ananaska)
As a child I thought it was the White House. The greatest disappointment ever which, however, did not change my attitude towards this amazing building :)
Christopher Ng-Fletcher
Amazing tour of the capitol, well worth the wait and definitely on your DC bucket list
Peter Ch-K
Nice Highlight at our USA Tour.
Such a beautiful buildung with such a great and big history.
As Germans it was easy to get to the house and senate galleries.
If you are in Washington DC you have to see it.
Recommendable....

Visited the Capitol during a short business trip to the city. Beautiful architecture all around! Even if you don't have the time for the long security lines, only walk around the outside of the the U.S. Capitol, still is an amazing experience.
Megan Wilcox
Very beautiful building, and worth walking up to and getting good pictures. We went on a Labor Day Monday and the outside area wasn't too crowded. Definitely recommend visiting in the evening during the summer time to avoid the heat and to get bigger pictures.
Awesome
This tour was fascinating. The architecture was absolutely incredible, the tour was free, and it was very in-depth. They started out with an informational presentation, which sparked my interest even more, and then we went to an upper level. At the upper level, they gave us headsets so we could hear our tour guide through her microphone, and then we walked throughout the building. There was lots of interesting history about the Capitol's architecture, there was history on the Supreme Court, and there was history about Capitol affairs. There are a myriad of statues throughout the building, and you get to find the history about that, too. And though not all of it was allowed to be photographed, most of it was and they specifically encouraged pictures.

As you stand there looking up at the U.S. Capitol dome you feel the history and power this structure holds. It can be hard to find parking, but I used one of the parking spots apps to find nearby structures. The US Capitol building is huge, and it’s surrounded by a grassy area where you can sit down and view it in a distance. The place is clean, and you can enter the building at the bottom of the stairs facing the Library of Congress. You need to pass by metal detectors, and you can sign up for a quick tour if you’re not scheduled to take one.

Extreme interior design very beautiful
Christopher Carlsson
Had an amazing tour of the capital. We did not book tickets in advance, so we had to go thru the process and wait for an open spot. Location is highly secure and go through the process just as if you are going to the airport. The tour was informative and fast paced, but allowed you time to get pictures in all locations. There is a gift shop and food options in the waiting area.
Moe Graphy
Worth it. Please do visit if you are in Washington DC.
They have free tour as well from inside but they are close on weekends.
Garrett Hartman
A breath taking building of immense importance found in Washington DC. If you have time for a tour, definitely take one. Parts of the Capitol building are like a museum and have great history. The building itself is quite stunning. Definitely worth a trip!
Gustad Mody
Such an amazing building. The tour is relatively Limited in what you get to see. You got to go into the main Dome of course which is pretty amazing. You go into a couple other rooms which hold historical importance and have historical sculptures, but note that you will never get to see any of the areas where staff and currently used rooms for the House and Senate

This was my second visit to Washington, DC and i was lucky enough that the restoration of the US Capitol was done after more than 3 years of work! Very beautiful building. On my first visiting, I did the tour inside the US Capitol, it was very informative and interesting. Totally recommended.
Tushar Suradkar
This is the numero-uno sightseeing place in Washington DC, what a magnificent building that shines bright white in the sunlight though there is restricted entry hours, the view from outside is breathtaking. Photos are allowed everywhere there is access though I did not find any suitable parking nearby. This could easily be the starting point of the day long walk in the area visiting other attractions like the various museums and monuments leading to the Lincoln memorial at the far end and then to the white house.
♿️ This place has:
Yes=Ramp access.
Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance.
Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Restroom/Toilet.
Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Seating.
Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Parking.

Sen. McCaskill's office (Missouri) provided us an outstanding tour of the U.S. Capitol. Everything is so ornate and beautiful!
Venkat R . K
Our tour guide David Linn was great! He was informative and knowledgeable, very interactive along with sense of humor. You get your money’s worth and excellent way to see so many statues. It was an amazing day.
Worth a visit and highly recommended.
Ankit Dhaniwala
Lot of free parking around the US Supreme court for easy access to the Capitol
Thomas Wilson
Went and got a tour from a person who works for our local representative. Awesome tour guide. Very magnificent building on the outside. On the inside, there is marble everywhere. Food and drinks are not allowed. I was disappointed though that inside the main Capitol dome, there are Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. I expected an image of God watching down on us. The 1$ bill says In God We Trust.
Aaron Lowe
Excellent private tour with NC senator guides. No one else showed up on Monday so it was just the three of us.
S.A. M.
Visited the Capitol Hill with my family 11 years ago, and it was arguably one of the best buildings that I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The guides were friendly and helpful, as were the security staff. If you're ever in the DC area, this is one of the places that should be included on your bucket list!
Erik Price
While I don't always like or agree with the policies that come out of this building, it is magical and impressive. What a piece of art. The history is just amazing. Being able to stand there was such an honor and really makes me proud to be an American. I cannot wait to visit again some day with my family.
Kathy Roberts
Awesome experience! Recommend the time tours.
Alan Zhu
Loved every little bit of it. Our tour guide was the best, and the sheer amount of things they had was amazing. The only tiny issue I have is the second security check to get into the Senate and House galleries and the fact that you can't take photos in the galleries.
Sven Klöpping
Absolutely great! Very impressive. You can make a reservation online for a free guided tour where you can see a lot of interesting details. After the tour you can walk the tunnel to the library of congress.
Spencer
It was fun to walk around in cool art and history. The security was pretty strict... I don't know why. Tour guide was great, but he didn't like us taking pictures in some parts of the capital.
Kaila Green
Our guide Roberta was amazing. Very knowledgeable about the building and the history. The tour was great and since it wasn't busy they showed us a couple extra rooms which normally aren't on the tour. Overall definitely worth visiting.
Kotogaeshi
The capital is a must see. It's truly a beautiful capital.
Joe Hutson
We were here on vacation from Chicago and it was a great experience. The exterior of the building is outstanding, it is enormous and the architecture is lovely. Inside the visitor's center it is very grand and there is a short, but informative museum to check out. It is about the history of the US and how the capitol has developed throughout time.
Ngo Hai Anh
Good place to visit.
Jason Myers
If you're visting DC you should absolutely consider touring the Capitol. We had no reservations, expected everything to be closed (on Labor day), and intended to just take photos from outside. However when we arrived we discovered the visitor center was allowing the next group of about 6 people enter, so we joined, and had began the tour within 15 minutes. It was a great, spontaneous, adventure, in DC.

This is a great place to visit if in DC. The place is a great example of excellent architecture. The capitol dome is a unique piece of art.Our guide Ms. Anne Mary gave us the best of her knowledge during our visit. If you are an ardent lover of American history and political sciences, do visit this place!
Michael Ciurea
What an awe inspiring building. This is where the rubber meets the road in our government. You’re able to see the statues and important places on the tour, but be sure to stop by your senator’s office to get passes to enter the house and senate chambers. It’s definitely worth making it in while they’re in session. Please don’t visit DC without taking this free tour.
George William Russel
The United States Capitol Hill is a magnificent building that symbolizes freedom and democracy. It symbolizes the best authorities in the United States. There are many people to visit and it is necessary to queue up early. There is a lot of outside parking spaces that require permission. It's really hard to park around, but there are many indoor parking lots nearby. Come on, the botanical garden next to cherry blossoms this season is also worth walking. Fantastic tourist attraction recommended for all!
Jeff Ewell
Wow this place is truly remarkable seeing your government in action! I was able to go on the tour of the capitol they start the two are off with a short video of the history of America on how the two houses got started the senate in the House of Representatives and the history of how England burnt down the first capital which was made of wood in the center and then the two sides which are they still are today then went and got two passes from my United States senator from New York to sit in on the Senate while was in session and also the House Representatives such a cool experience just really amazing and then I went down and ate in the cafeteria in the US Capitol food was really good extremely pricey but extremely very good food!
Will Beauchamp
A great place to visit. Got a glimpse of some of the Senators in a hallway. We had a great guide to set our visit up! What a beautiful place! The inside artwork is awesome. Highly recommend and ready to go back!
Stephen J. Lautenschlager
The U.S. Capitol is an absolutely must-see when in the D.C. area. I had the privilege of touring and visiting the Capitol on a number of occasions while living in the D.C. area growing up as well as during family visits and business travels.
It is beautiful visually from so many vantage spots both inside and around the exterior and surrounding campus.
Jesse Welsh
Managed to get in early on a Saturday and there was almost no line. Having visited before, I was pleased to get such a small tour group and to be able to see things (such as the Supreme Court meeting room) that are not always part of the tour. Guide was super-knowledgeable and able to answer almost any question. Only bummer right now is the restoration work being done on the dome/cupola. Definitely something worth seeing on a trip to DC.

It was greatly informative! I've only learned about the US from my textbooks, but the tours really bring it to another level! I'm not a citizen and I don't stay there so unfortunately I can't contact any Rep. or anything, so I guess that was the only downside. Wait I think that's not the only one. There was just too many people. I went on Black Friday, but still the crowds were ridiculous. The tour was too rushed, and we missed some pretty awesome statues and paintings. That's my only complaint. Although, if you do ask me, I'll definitely come back to visit again. Once is never enough! :)
Leah Bertrand
We had a tour booked and even though our headphones kept dropping out we still loved it! Amazing paintings, sculptures and our guide was very knowledgeable. The building itself was much bigger than I'd ever imagined!
Mike Chiang
The building is magnificent and the tour is also fantastic
Adam Tuiletufuga
The Capitol Building is beautiful in form and representation. Removed from the politics of it all, the building has come to represent a democratic society and does so with a level of grandeur not often seen in American architecture. The amount of detail in this building is amazing and the short, but sweet, tour they regularly offer 6 days a week is highly informative. My favorite room is the Rotunda, which features 8 massive and important paintings that many Americans will have seen in their textbooks during school, such the painting of President Washington's surrendering of power when he left the office (the first peaceful handing over of power). This location is a MUST-SEE when visiting Washington, both the outside of the building and the free tour inside.
Griffin R
Some people do stuff here that are trying to "make America great again"
Sam Michaud
American history and some beautiful architecture come together in this unique structure. Be sure to check for security tips and prohibited items on the Capital website to save yourself some time and aggravation. We set up a free tour through our Congressman's office. They where helpful and we where able to walk the tunnels beneath the streets to get to the Capital building from our Congressman's office.
Sonja Moore
I had initially only planned on spending one day touring the Capitol through my state Senator’s office. However, after I was given gallery passes to the Senate and House chambers by my Senator’s office, I spent approximately 5 hours between two days in the chambers as well as many hours looking at the statues and such in the Capitol. There is an underground tunnel to the Library of Congress, so going there for a tour is easy too. I highly recommend visiting the Capitol.
Life Reflecting Images Photography
Love doing a midnight shoot here. So peaceful.
Edward Kindred
The tour was adequate at showing you different parts of the building, but does not get you to see the house or senate chambers. To see them you must go on a weekday and if a US national, write to your representative. If foreign you can walk up. For the general tour you still must book in advanced. The building itself is great, but looks better on the outside.
James M.
We spent a whole day touring the US Capitol Building and still didn’t see everything there is to see. Just the massive scale of Capitol Hill is amazing, if you decide to tour the capitol building be sure to also visit the nearby Library of Congress!

Matt Porter
We did not take the tour due to time constraints. Instead we chose to walk around the Capitol. The architecture and the area around the Capitol is incredible. Next time I will plan ahead so that we can take advantage of the tours that are offered.
Nermin Gilbert
Altough there were many visitors, there was a very nice organisation. We traveled safely and comfortably. I also love that the priorty, which is given to wheelchair users across USA.
Sean O
Loved the tour of the grounds. The number of figures in there is breathtaking. The tour guide was real good and fun too. Other workers were friendly too. Missed my appointment, but was still attended to regardless.
Martin Smith
This was one of the better things I saw in DC, the tour was very interesting but there were so many people around it was hard to get good photos. There was a massive queue on arrival but it quietened down later and we walked straight onto a tour. So don't give up if this happens.
Lobsang Palden
Our tour guide Charlie Chen is very nice and funny. An unforgettable experience in the Capitol Hill and DC museum. Tips : Capital hill tour and museum is free. 🚆Use public transportation or taxi to get to capital hill. It is very hard to get parking. A must see for incredible history and architecture. …
margie mayfield
If you are in Washington DC this has to be on your list! We had AMAZING tour guide that was so knowledgeable and willing to answer everyone’s questions. Just being able to see where government happens was a great experience. Most amazing thing I learned was that the dome is just held on by weight. Very impressive! Statues were very impressive as well. Everyone that we came in contact with was so nice! Thanks US CAPITOL for our tour and your hospitality!!!
Vasil Nestorov
It was really nice visiting the Capitol.
Pam Berg
We were able to get passes to see the capitol. While we were only able to view 4 rooms, it is truly beautiful. The scale of the building and artwork is amazing. Our guide was very informative. A true walking encyclopedia.
Vasan Serca
Such an amazing building. This represents the free world under the democratic regime. It is a Great place to visit especially with your kids. You may be in for a treat to meet the many lawmakers of America . There is no question about this grand building - it represents the United States well !
Chris
Amazing building with a massive amount of history. Make sure you go when Congress is in session to get the most out of your tour. I cam when it wasn't and it just was not the same.
Also, the dome seems to be under repair forever, which makes the rotunda not nearly as interesting to see. When it's done, I'm sure it'll be amazing.
Luke Render
Beautiful building. Parking is for capital workers only. You will likely have to taxi, walk, scooter, uber, or bus to get here. There is a free bus service that goes around the National Mall. That line makes around 15 stops including one near the capital. I would recommend it for the elderly and some handicap. There is plenty of opportunities for picture taking here. I do not believe public restrooms are near here. They are near the center of the National Mall or the Smithsonian. National Art Gallery might be another option.
Kathryn Arnold
The tour was pretty disappointing. We saw three rooms, we waited longer in line than the tour itself. We weren't allowed to wander and were rushed through everything because there were other tours literally on our heels. We had to stay as a group at all times and the opportunity to take photos was very limited. Although the tourguide was knowledgeable I don't think she gave us a good tour.
Eric Schreiterer
Great Tour, you have to be lucky to see every romm though
finna play gta
Drove to D.C. to see it for myself for the first time. The drive of North Maryland...a little scary...but on the way back through the Misty fog...a trucker or two was kind enough to guide us through the mountains by using their hazard lights. That was very refreshing. I don't know who they were, but they do. Now as to the Capital. We did not get a chance to embark on any indoor foot tours, but the outdoor campus is beautiful. Thank you .
Cameron Ezzy
The architecture and size really make this a must see attraction in Washington. It is a great location to take photos of the actual building but also looking down to the Washington Monument. As many attractions in Washington it tends to be a lot busier on weekends, so if you have smaller children it may be best to visit on week day.
Filip Dijak
This park is amazing and filled with beautiful buildings and ponds like this.
Lula Turner
We visited with a large school group and a tour company. We had tickets and only waited about 10 minutes to get into the tour. Starts off with a video and moves into a guided tour with headphones connected to the guide. Don’t fall too far behind the group or you will lose connection and miss interesting information. When we were there the House was in session. Allow plenty of time. There’s also a cafeteria in the lower level. Very strict security - bag inspection (like everywhere else), no outside water allowed.
madhu y n
The parliament of US. Big, beautiful, nice. If you don't notice the underground path you might mistake it to be not open for public access!. Big security check is there. Best part is they have free guide tour.
Reino Hornson
An amazing architectural structure with many open spaces inside and outside the premises. Beautiful stairways and guides help navigate the facility. There is even a place where you can eavesdrop on people in the lower floors, but I won't reveal it. This building has a lot of history inside, so it's a great stop on a visit of Washington, D.C.
Kris Olymp
Visited early morning and easily got House and Senate gallery passes from the visitors center. It was on a day they were debating the Oregon mass shooting / gun control and I had the chance to watch the House proceedings right from the ceremonial start. After an hour, I transferred to the Senate for a while and then was lucky enough to score an immediate entry to the official Congress tour (don't miss out if you want to see the dome) with a very funny and knowledgeable guide. I am glad I chose to visit the Capitol this time around. Don't skip it, its just a great experience to be in these famous rooms.
soemijato muin
Must visit place when in Washington DC, very beautiful place
Joseph Ching
The building looks good from the outside and the inside was very lavishly decorated. The interior view of the dome was grand, there are detailed engraving amd painting wrapping around it, there is also a ceiling painting in the center below the done. The state of Freedom was huge!
We were taken to an auditorium and a video prevention was shown at the start of the tour. Afterward, Our tour guide Andrew showed us the various chambers such as the original meeting room for the supreme court, the chamber where members of house of representatives and Senates debated - which has now became the room of statutes, and another room with various famous painting where ceremony takes place.
After the tour, we got tickets to see the representative and Senates sessions. There is another security and the actual session wasn't very interesting.
There is also a gift shop and we bought some items to decorate around the house.
William Moon
The tour guides are great and the history is inspiring. Crowds can be large, especially on the weekend, but it is well worth it. People complain who didn't plan ahead and contact their Congressman, Congresswoman, or Senator for tickets. Too bad. Be prepared. This isn't Disneyland
Ye Josh
Nice. A must see place in The dc area. The visitor center is in the right side, and need cross the street. There is underground tunnel leading to the capitol building. The building materials seem to be marable. Very well designed, and decorative items may not be expensive, but look very luxury.
Edward Delfino
Obviously one of the places you’ll want to visit while in DC (if you’re here as a tourist). You must make a reservation to visit the interior, which can be done for free online, but if you don’t you won’t be getting inside (plan on doing this a day in advance or more if you’re visiting in a busy period); otherwise, all you’ll be able to do is take pictures from outside, which is still very impressive.
Colin Hozey
First off, the U.S. Capitol is one of the most beautiful buildings ever constructed. All of you grouches who slam it because you don't like the people who work there need to grow up. I love visiting the Capitol Building. Show it respect. It is the seat of government. I don't like the president, but I still respect the Oval Office. And finally, it's where I'm gonna be working someday.
Cornelius Davoren
We had a private tour from an intern working in our congressman’s office. That made all the difference as we had a personal guide to tell us so much of the history of the Capitol. The views of the capital rotunda are absolutely breathtaking, and even school-age children can appreciate the history and the statues that are present contributed by each of the states. You can do the visitor center afterwards, and there is a café in the visitor center.
Jean Leah Atkins
Very beautiful and friendly staff! Saw everything in a timely manner.
Mark Ritchie
Went back today for the first time since 1995. First of all, they have added a massive new underground visitor center. There were so many people there, I can't imagine how they ever did these tours without the new center. No problems there.
However, the experience is sadly degraded. First of all, the terrorists have won. We can no longer function as citizens in our own house. If you enter through the Library of Congress tunnel and progress to visiting one of the visitors' galleries, you will go through no fewer than 4 security checkpoints, three of which will check all the same things. Also, the guards checking your stuff will get progressively ruder and less concerned with you as a person, the closer you get to the galleries.
My recommendation is get a tour from your representative, but SKIP THE GALLERIES where you will get treated like animals for the "privilege" of sitting in a balcony for 4 minutes before being herded out. Also, try to come in the dead of winter. By March 13, you will not even be shown the old Supreme Court chamber, because of the massive crowds of people they are herding through.
Liam Collins
I did a tour here through the visitor center. While brief, the tour was phenomenal. The place is gorgeous, with paintings and statues everywhere. Additionally, Our guide was great! He was very informative.
Ritika Kamat
I took the timed tour. There was no waiting around in sun but there was some waiting time in the lobby. I didn't mind it though since it was air conditioned.
Once on tour, i found the rotunda very fascinating. Tour narration was ok. Head sets were not so good. This is a must see place if in DC. Though I would recommend a self guided tour.
Frouge
Security let me right into the rooms!
Marta R. Salvatella
Amazing architecture. You feel small in such an hystoric building
Phillip Woodward
Where the fat cats scratch one another's backs. Meh.

Beautiful architecture all around! Even if there is only time to walk around the outside of the the U.S. Capitol, still an amazing sight! The area is
SO walkable! Skip the cab!
John Darby
It was great to see and take the family to. The tours are a fast place. The only issue is you can't bring food or water. So if your doing DC. Make this your last stop. If not you have to dump out you food and water and be SOL for the rest of the day.
Marlon Burdet
I love this place it's vary unique and the heart and center of DC. One of the most beautiful symbol of freedom in America, the paintings our amazing, and the rotunda is a whole other world. I like the tour in the capital, it's really fast and worth it when you visit Washington, D.C. You should decently go to the Capital building and the White House.
Charley Carlin
Washington DC has a couple of things that really stick out. The Washington Monument for sure, and second is the Capitol. The Capitol and its dome represent so much history it is overwhelming to think that one could describe it in a simple review. To see it at night with the lighting is awe inspiring, and in the day the flow of people in and out and all around give a small hint as to our nation and its background. For some a walk around the building is enjoyble, for all a trip to the visitor center and the tours are just more than the mind can take. Take a docent led tour for so many tidbits one might not ordinarily know, and item one just might walk by.
Write you congress person a few month in advance and get a tour, we did and it was beyond amazing,
Nasir Fazal
Very historical place. Make time for this place. Lots to learn.
Jamie Hotchkiss
A must see while visiting the capital! The history behind this building was amazing to learn about. Make sure and use the rest room and drink water before taking the tour.

Always dreamt to watch the president giving his speech from the capitol

Awesome building! OMG I have never seen so many statues in one place! LOL and everyone has a sign saying don't touch! Yeah right! You end up touching them just to get around the place! But it was a very moving experience. To actually stand in the middle of the Rotunda was worth the effort.
Stan Reese
The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The staff was friendly. But, if you are going to dine in the Capitol cafeteria, you better be ready to fork out a few extra bucks. Good food. Just expensive.

On behalf of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America we would like to thank the US Capitol for their full support to offer the best preparedness for the world's gathering of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America as demonstrated to the United States Mint we had changed the backs of the pennies to offer the protection to all tones of flesh of skin backgrounds religious belief and gender that may be attending. The dome unfortunately was still under renovation so we did not get to see the whole building in it's entirety. The tour within the Capitol was well organised and very informative. It is awe inspiring just to be able to be physically be there in the place which is the seat of decision making of the most powerful and influential country of the world.

The U.S. Capitol Building is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world and the center of American democracy. The world-famous domed building is home to the United States House of Representatives and Senate; where America’s congressmen and congresswomen conduct business, debate laws and pass bills on behalf of the American people. The U.S. Capitol and U.S. Capitol Visitor Center is also one of DC’s most popular monuments and museums and welcomes millions of visitors each year.
Today, the U.S. Capitol Building covers a ground area of 175,170 square feet, or about 4 acres, and has a floor area of approximately 16-1/2 acres. Its length, from north to south, is 751 feet 4 inches; its greatest width, including approaches, is 350 feet. Its height above the base line on the east front to the top of the Statue of Freedom is 288 feet. The building contains approximately 540 rooms and has 658 windows (108 in the dome alone) and approximately 850 doorways. The U.S. Capitol Building is divided into five levels. The first, or ground, floor is occupied chiefly by committee rooms and the spaces allocated to various congressional officers. The areas accessible to visitors on this level include the Hall of Columns, the Brumidi Corridors, the restored Old Supreme Court Chamber, and the Crypt beneath the Rotunda, where historical exhibits are presented.

The tour guides are excellent-at least, ours was. Her name is Alison, and she did a bang-up job. Including dealing with smart and vocal 6-year old with aplomb. He and we had a good time.
Oliver Peckham
All politics aside, the U.S. Capitol is an amazing piece of architecture and a great place to visit. Gorgeous rotunda and halls, although my personal favorite parts are the underground tunnels to the office buildings. Email your representative and ask for a tour!
Space Duck
Absolutely loved visiting this place! I got to go through the underground tunnels, then we got to look through most of the Capitol! This includes the Senate room and House of Reps! I got to see Marko Rubio speak, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz too! It was so awesome to see them in action, even though I never got to talk to them. (But I dont think that's possible anyways.)
It was very educational and our tour guide actually was close to one of my best friends so it was nice to see her. It was nice to see others that appreciate learning about history!
Nina Mara
Exquisite art and architecture throughout. Knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. U S History revealed through paintings, frescoes, sculptures, and too many symbolic features to count. Fascinating even for non history buffs.
Tony Guada
If you are a US Citizen, call your Congress Man/Woman and or your Senator. They will "hook you up" with a personalized tour and it is AWESOME! Even thought the tour guide 9 times out of 10 is an intern, ours was very knowledgeable in every question, doubt and comment of the Capitol Had a great time and I commend those who work there and take care of the place. I highly recommend this place!
David Smith
Its only a 45 minute 3 room tour with guide and headphone system, so you can hear them over the noise of visitors. Extremely well organised and executed. Buy they have done it a time or two. A must in DC so next time you see Capitol building or hill on TV you can say....been there.
Spencer Stolworthy
Stunning architecture. If you're planning a visit, definitely contact your local congressman's office to schedule a tour. The tours through congressional offices are much more complete than the standard public tour.
Salma Pillitteri
Worth the visit. Ps: don’t try to take a pic with the cops 😂 …
Frances Arthur
Do not waste your time on the public tour. It's awful. Instead, contact your congressman or senators and ask for a private evening tour. Most will say no, but you could get lucky. At night, it's quiet and congressmen can take you into rooms that others don't know about.
Peter Oxboel
Give yourself plenty of time, a minimum of 3 to 4 hours. Make sure you take guided tour. There's so much to see and so much to absorb don't cheat yourself by going too quickly. We had a guided tour that twas so informative it was life-changing. Proud to be an American.

I came from INDIA to visit United States Capitol on 4th July 2019 with family at Washington D.C, USA. It is one of the most wonderful historical US Government building where we can see the statues , Images and paintings of great personalities of USA at United States Capitol Visitor Center. It is maintained with neat and clean with all facilities and also a store , restrooms etc. I had a great time in my life when I visited United States Capitol Visitor Center ,Washington D.C., USA

The US Capitol is a must-see attraction in Washington. I've served as a tour guide - and have been on tours led by others. It is a great place to work and an even better place to visit. Schedule tours in advance with your local Representative or Senator for the best experience.
maggie laiun
Great visit, you can get a group tour every 20 minutes and it's quite alright. The place is extremely nice. The downside is that it's very crowded so in some places you can't see much because of that but a very nice visit none the less.
Ryan Tierney
This is the most beautiful building I have ever stepped foot in. We went on a tour by our local Congressman, and because we were a school group, got to see things that are not normally available to the public. This beautiful, and the history behind it is astounding!
Vineet Singh
One of the free things in DC which completely live upto the hype and expectation.
Just few days before my trip to DC with my parents I booked the building tour online and was able to get an afternoon slot. As we walked in ,the email confirmation was checked and we were handed over the passes. They don't allow any eatables inside, so make sure not to carry them. We saw so many people throwing their drinks and food away before entering the security check point.
The first part of the tour included a movie about the history of the Capitol building. It lasts for a good 20 mins and is a very good refresher for all those who are not aware of the history. After the movie ends one walks into the main hall where a tour guide takes approximately 15-20 people in one group. They handed over the headphones for the audio tour.
The length of the tour depends on the tour guide. Our tour lasted little more than one hour and the tour guide was really nice. She explained everything in detail and also made sure all the queries were answered.
Definitely a must thing to do in DC!
Michael Davis
We really enjoyed our extended tour of the Capitol. We contacted our Congressman's office in advance, and they arranged the tour. We sat in on a session of the Senate (you can watch from the seats at the top, above the floor), toured all the main halls, and even the back halls and tunnels of Capitol Hill. It really was a great tour, and exceeded my expectations.
Lucy Dee
A wonderful place to visit to watch policy in action. Be sure to schedule a visit with your Congressman to meet with them and tell them your viewpoints! You can also request gallery seating for a session of Congress or even a guided tour through your local Congressman. Also, you can take a nap on the lawn out front on the weekend. :D
Jennifer Arlin
We did the free walking tour of the Capitol building today. I had made an advance reservation, and I'm glad I did, because the line for walk-ins was at least an hour long. We walked right in to our tour.
The security staff is, as others have noted, rude. There's just nothing you can do about that. Don't bring anything you care about. My neighbor's expensive sunscreen ended up in the trash. I had an apple in my purse that they forced me to eat before entering the building. It wasn't dangerous, sharp, or likely to spill. It was an apple.
The experience consists of a 15-minute introductory movie (which was actually quite good) and then a "45-minute walking tour." The walking tour shows you two rooms - the Rotunda and the Statuary Hall. That's it. We could not believe how short and uninformative it was.
It was impossible to hear and understand our tour guide's commentary, even though they gave us headsets that were designed to help in that regard. There were at least 20 tour groups in the Rotunda at once, and our headsets picked up the commentary of all the guides at the same time.
All in all, I was disappointed. The Rotunda is beautiful, and the introductory film was nice, but neither was worth what we had to go through to see them.
Tian Nan
We went there on Martin Luther King Day. Not many people were there. You can make reservation online or go early in the morning to get same day pass. According to office website, same day pass is limited so if you do not have reservations, you probably want to get up early. The capitol opens on 8:30 am. The whole visit takes about 1.5 hours. They have free tour guide, I really like this! The inside of the capitol is very beautiful, you won't regret to visit there.

A must visit while in Washington DC. Admirable architecture, engineering, and art. It symbolizes the deep meaning and roots of freedom and democracy in modern history. Well preserved, friendly staff. A major bureaucratic problem: To visit the House of Representatives, visitors are asked to go and bring a ticket from their own representative across the street at another building, wait in line again, and go through all the security checks all over again. While you can get a ticket to visit the Senate gallery relatively easily, this is outdated not-so-nice bureaucracy unfitting the 21st century.
Cameron Spradling
Beautiful building. Looks refreshed since construction finished that was started a few years ago. The artistry on the interior is what really sets this building off. One of the symbols of our great nation.
NG
Amazing collection of artwork and statues.
Nancy Ruskus
Such an amazing experience. I have toured the Capitol as a tourist, and have provided tours as a Congressional Intern. There is so much to learn through the architectural structures to the rotunda.. it's all quite breathtaking.
Douglas Girardot
The Visitor Center itself is a beautiful structure that is sure to stun people before they even step into the main building of the U.S. Capitol. If this review were money, then the Capitol would be priceless; it can't even be reviewed because of its grandeur. The gorgeous building is symmetrical everywhere and is studded with works of art at every turn. It definitely doesn't feel "fake" like some other governmental places do; one can easily tell that this really is a seat of government. This should be one of your top priorities when visiting Washington.
Muktesh Mani
Awesome weather and awesome Capitol. O loved being here!
Rebecca Manlow
Our group went in to watch the voting on a nomination acceptation by the Senate. It was a worthwhile experience. Note that they do not allow in any food or water and all items (except your purse) must be checked in before being allowed into the viewing gallery.
Daniel Pineau
If I were building my own legislative branch building to house the upper and lower houses of the most powerful nation on earth, I couldn't have done a better job myself!
Seriously, this - along with the White House and the U.S. Supreme Court building, are impressive in the truest sense.
Here, the richness of our legislative history is seen from every state and epoch since our beginning.
I will load photos once I return to a computer - iPhone 6+ is great but this deserved more.
You're only cheating yourself if you don't visit.
Michelle Ojeda
An amazing building but not much to do but to take pictures
Suresh Mokana
Must visit place and best part is guided tour.

Must see, tour guides where amazing and so knowledgeable.

Amazing place. Great history.
Ravindra Vangipuram
When we visited this place, it was snowing and it looked so beautiful. It was our first snow experience as well. This is very important building and must see if you are in Washington D.C. It looks great during night time.
Glenn Martin
Awesome time praying in the rotunda with other prayer warriors. What an amazing place!
Alejandro Perez
Impressive building to see in person. The size and beauty reminds you of what this country should represent to you
Ashraf Abdelghany, MD
Wow! That’s my favorite place in DC to visit!

A great sight to behold ! This place is a must when you visit Washington DC .

The inspiration to visit the U. S. Capitol building can be credited to the local PBS station when it ran Ken Burn's documentary on The Civil War. Definitely worth reserving a tour of the Capitol building to experience the nuances of this historic structure and the role it plays in the U.S. Federal Government. As visitors from a country with a parliamentary style of government, it was interesting to see similarities and differences in this legislative branch of the U.S. Government. Schedule your tour in the morning if possible to avoid the crowds. The majesty of the Dome, the Senate Chamber and the House of Representatives were all worthwhile. Free admission. Walk, Uber/Taxi or take public transit due to extremely limited parking. Lots of walking. Food & Shopping available on site.
Gargee Chowdhury
Visited the widely recognized icon in the morning of a weekday to avoid crowd. And it was exactly what we had thought. The place was Less crowded. Got a chance to see the recognized icon, with magnificent dumb and architecturally impressive structures, that doi during pandemic. Thanks to our luck!
Mar John
amazingly beautiful place to visit
Connor Wilder
Must see for architecture alone
Michele Diamond
Mr. Christian was our guide on this chilly DC Saturday afternoon. A very professional, well spoken, knowledgeable and all around pleasant individual who has obvious pride, passion and enthusiasm for his work. We learned so much. Your humor, attention to detail and informative answers to our questions are worth mention here. We thank you for a wonderful experience.
Tony G
Walk around here is so nice after a long day, nice photos there
Katherine Quant
They gave us a 1-hour tour, it started with a 15 minutes movie. It was very nice, the tour guide was hilarious, but I though that the tour will take longer. I feel like I have to go again.
Gwen Harder
Was able to experience our nation's Capitol thanks to a tour through our state's congressman. We ALL have this access, you just need to get in touch with your representative. Seeing the house and congressional chambers is something everyone should take the time for. What happens there effects all of us.
Vincent Gagnon
Impressive building. We enjoyed our tour of the U.S. Capitol, it is as impressive from the inside and it was from the outside. Definitely recommend doing the inside tour, it's well planned out and informational.
vinod bang
Went here on a weekend and took the tour to see the Capitol. It was fun and our guide was so full of knowledge. You should park near the east side for easy access otherwise be prepared to walk.
B Gilbert
Limited tour (since September 11th terrorist attack) but something every American should make the time to experience. Educational and insight into our taxes at work. After/before tour, walk to the nearby Library of Congress, which is also a spectacular building to see (for free) and won't take up much time either.
Shuchi Khosla
A must see! Day or night, its a pretty sight.
Christopher Dockrey
This is a must stop for anybody who is visiting Washington DC. They have tours that leave frequently everyday and you can also reserve a space through your Congressional office to ensure you don't miss out. You enter through the Capitol Visitor Center between the Capitol and the Supreme Court and go into the main building from there underground.
Tammy Yau
I love the architecture of all the historical sites in Washington and this is no exception. Outside and inside, it is amazing. There are tours available for you to view the inside which is definitely pretty cool when you think about it.
Joe Mulrennan
Fantastic! Keep in mind that if you don't reserve a tour, you can still queue up for one. Would totally recommend it, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a good since of humor too!
Kwabena Fynn Fletcher
After seeing it in movies, being there in person was a gratifying experience.
Jake Davison
Standard tour booked thru representative's office. Staff were courteous. Video on America over the top warm & fuzzy propaganda. See column hall under rotunda, rotunda with apotheosis of Washington, and entry area to house chamber. Interesting art and iconography with remarkably boring statues. It is bizarre how the civil war is still by each state choosing statues.
Tom Miller
Quite impressive and awe inspiring. I am sure there is so much more to see than I guess they're just not able to show you. But still, if visiting dc, this is a must. Go online and make a reservation for your timed tour. Bypass the long lines that way!
Jeffery R. Skinner
Great experience to see this place in person. If you follow any form of politics this will be an amazing sight to see. Always busy with tourists. Easy access via the subway with a short walk.
Jade Brown
Douglas was our tour guide today and was absolutely amazing! He made the tour fun, and he was full of knowledge. If you visit the Capitol you better hope you get to have Douglas!
