Reviews of United States Botanic Garden
Evan Andrews
Amazing spot with a great variety of plants. It was a really hot day, so the humid interior didn’t feel too great, but nothing against the place itself. I loved all the different sections. They also had a corpse plant which had just recently bloomed and was incredible to see in person. The staff was also very knowledgeable. I would love to return and even better, it’s free! The outdoor gardens are something I overlooked but got to spend some time in afterwards. I can’t wait to go back.

Such a beautiful place to visit when you’re in DC. ♥️
It’s free! And my absolute favorite part of it is sitting on one of the benches and enjoying the garden. It’s so delightful! 🪴
There’s lots of interesting information near each and every plant. They also have an east and west gallery sections, where the temperature is a lot cooler in there.
Keep in mind that it’s a little busy on the weekends.
All in all, this garden is a MUST to visit! 🌱
ThePinkfreak805
A really beautiful and enjoyable place! They’ve got some really awesome plant species here! The tropical room is especially great! Not only is it beautiful, but with the humidity you’ll really feel like you’re in the rainforest! Also very cool to see the endangered plants you aren’t likely to see anywhere else.

While visiting family in the Maryland Area, we took drove to DC to experience the United States Botanic Garden. Not being one that would select this given all the other museums and sites in the area, I'm glad we went.
The plants are well displayed utilizing groupings of regions, climates or types of plants. There were docents available to answer geeky plant questions but most impressive was the self-guided audio tour. This worked with your phone and provided information in an entertaining way that would appeal to a wide group of people.
The added bonus on why this maybe a must is that as you tour the grounds, they have displays / replicas of all of DC's greatest tourist sites made from plant mater. It was impressive and made what I thought could be a boring visit looking at plants into a vastly entertaining experience in which was educational too...

This garden has a huge conservatory. I didn't know it was going to be this big so couldn't pay attention every single plant or flower. There is a garden for kids that they could water flowers by themselves. Beautiful fountains were in side of main building. If you like orchids you need to check out this place because there were so many. There were so so many people in the garden especially inside of conservatory. It was impossible to take pictures without putting someone else in my frame. There are several walking path outside and picnic areas. This place is very close from United States Capitol. Definitely one of MUST GO place if you love beautiful plants and flowers.

We visited the Botanical Gardens today and had an enjoyable experience. We were able to get street parking near Maryland Ave and parked using the Park Mobile App. It was the perfect place for pictures, nature and serenity. We also loved the children’s playground and the upper level which gives you a breathtaking views of the interior. We got lunch after at the food truck across the street from Maryland Ave and took pictures at the National Mall.

If I could, I would never leave this place. From the moment you approach the building, your can see and, more importantly, smell the wonderful collection of plants everywhere. My all-time favorite part of the grounds, the section I visit every time I'm in DC. is the nook in Zone 5 with the carnivorous plants- something you definitely don't see every day! Find a bench to rest in your favorite zone, track down every single species of plant, learn about different gardening techniques, or hang out in the canopy walk of the rain forest to catch some awesome views of the city. Either way, make sure you swing by on your next visit to DC!

I really enjoyed my visit to the US Botanic Garden. This was my second visit to the Garden. The Outdoor Gardens were interesting even though many of the plants are dormant. The numerous Gardens in the Conservatory were all very impressive. I especially liked the Tropics Garden and Canopy Walk. The Hawaii, World Desert, Primeval Gardens along with the Garden Court were great as well.
Alex Navarro
Always lovely. The inside and outside gardens are full of flowers. Great place to take kids. They even have a children’s garden where kids can plant something and water it. So cute! You can spend a lot of time here if you like, but you can also easily see everything in about an hour.
Lipstick Revolt
We had an amazing seeing the botanical garden. I was worried that it wouldn’t be interesting since it’s winter but I was completely wrong. There are so many amazing plants, trees, and flowers that you need a few hours to take it all in. I also appreciated all the holiday decor! They have an amazing display going on and an amazing RC Train exhibit that’s so worth seeing.
Rachel B
Really love this botanical garden. It’s free to the public and easy to access, nestled in between the Capitol and the National Mall area.
There are lots of beautiful plants here, with nice information and exhibits as well to lean into the different landscapes, where plants are from, and even into the agricultural side of plants and the culture of food.
This is a lovely space to escape the city for a moment and get a dose of green space and good air 😊 Highly recommend!

This is such a delightful retreat for an afternoon lunch or just a date in the different ecotones of the world. You could walk into a completely tropical climate full of tropical trees that have terrace views, or walk into a desert of cactus. There’s a section on medicinal plants followed by rare and endangered species which is mind blowing. I absolutely loved my shortest trip to Hawaii and then to a garden of orchids and roses. Be sure to checkout the inner and outer gardens. There are interesting wall murals of tea from China and other such use. But the most amazing part was the TOILET. Yes, you heard it right. It’s full of ornamental plants that smells amazing and the sound of water and birds will make you feel you’re in the cleanest part of the world, unlike what public restrooms are known for.

The BEST indoor botanic garden conservatory I've ever been to. The ceilings are incredibly high and there are catwalks to walk high above the plants. It is very hot and humid inside so I'd recommend dressing light. If you enjoy plants I would highly recommend these botanic gardens. The exterior gardens are not the best I've seen, but the indoor ones definitely are.
Jeremy Andra
The botanical gardens are a beautiful hideaway from the normal everyday views of the world. An amazing display of some of the wonderful offerings this world has to offer in the way of beautiful plants and miscellaneous greenery. We were shocked to find there is no charge to see any of this and would highly suggest you stop in and check it out.
abdiel blas
I have had a great experience here. The gardens are very well kept. Nice place to get fresh air or as a romantic date. I will say they may need a little bit of better signage to let you know exactly where you're at. I found it a little difficult to read the map with the numbers. Other than that I highly recommend Botanic Gardens!!!
Ryan Brunk
Good staff outdoor gardens were very nice. I was a little underwhelmed with the size of the greenhouses but they were extremely well cared for. The whole facility indoor and out showed the care of its staff. Most impressive collection is orchids but pay attention as they are spread all over the facility. Don't forget to look up as well as down.
Muhammad Samsoor Zarak
I really liked visiting the botanical garden. The conservatory had an inside of a typical tropical jungle. It was made perfectly. The environment, temperature, humidity was controlled and gave vibes of a tropical jungle.
Moreover, on the outer side, there were many more trees, herbs, shrubs which belonged to different regions. It was great experience to see them and know them.

My favorite stop in DC! Large collection of plants/trees from all over the world kept in stunning condition. The environment is super realistic with all the cute bridges, plant placement, and specialized weather control, and often made me feel as if I were really in the tropics or the Mediterranean. Breathtaking if you’re a plant fan. Even better that it’s free!
In the plant shop area, there were some exhibits on food with narration from DC based chefs. This was an interesting experience and I thoroughly enjoyed everything the garden had to offer. My foodie and plant loving self was on cloud nine!
Mark Ferneau
Today was rainy so we didn't have the opportunity to explore the outside gardens. The indoor exhibits are expansive and cover a tremendous variety of plants of all kinds. Highly recommended for all. Note - the elevator in the tropics was out so you need to climb stairs to see the tree tops. I love the way they organized the exhibits. I plan to come back to see the outside gardens as well as spending more time inside.
wonder boy
My family loves this place. A great spot to hit all year round. Family / kid / baby friendly. The staff are really nice and will help answer any questions you might have. Highly recommend Christmas time as they have an amazing train set that highlights plants around the world.
Hyo Jin Moon
Beautiful garden that is open to the public for free. There are spots where you can sit and enjoy the weather and also the indoor green house that has so much to see (and learn. Lots of educational components). I highly recommend visiting here with kids of all ages.
Sagar Vibhute
Must visit for anyone in or around DC!
The botanical garden houses several different habitats - tropical, desert, primeval ferns and more - in weather controlled domes to create the feeling of what these biomes are like in the natural world. It is a great place for someone to get this experience in a controlled space, but also to learn about the role these habitats play for the planet and our ecosystem.
The entry is free, there are plenty of benches (if you want to rest or even plonk down and read a while), functioning washrooms and a nifty little gift shop.
Getting there is easy, there are trains and buses to get you almost all the way to the entrance.
I sincerely wish for more such places to come up around the world to help people understand the importance of forests.
Robert Zilbauer
Surprisingly awesome! Stopped in here on a whim in the middle of winter and was amazed at how much there was to see (not to mention how nice and toasty it was after the sub-freezing temperature outside). Expertly organized and maintained, you'll see things from all over the country and world. Plus some cool birds flying around the rainforest section. Highly recommended!
Ben Matthews
If you’ve spent the day walking up the mall and around the museums, then this is a fantastic place to unwind. The glasshouse is beautiful in its own right, and features plants from many different climates. And the outdoor gardens are equally lovely. Definitely worth a stop if you’re near the Capital Building.
Kathy W
Fabulous exhibits inside and outside at this time of the year around Christmas. Model train exhibit is one of a kind and beautifully crafted and displayed. Kids and families love to come see year after year. Parking can be challenging but doable. Highly recommended.
Stuti Khandwala
Pretty worthwhile, won’t take more than an hour unless you want to read every board. Saw many fruits so that was exciting! Quite humid except in the desert plants section. Lots of medicinal plants on display!
sophie williams
a must-see for the holidays. the all-natural, handmade monuments are seriously cool. they add a new monument every year (this years addition is the national gallery east wing building). everything but the windows are made from natural materials. The botanical garden is a great stop any time of year, but the monuments and train display outside make it extra special for the holiday season.
F Ainsa
LOVE it. Great for a visit any time of year with plants from all over the world. Great photo opportunities, nice bathrooms, and educational for kids. Especially beautiful at Christmas time when they have the trains and models of the DC monuments all made from plants.
Victoria O'Tool
This is a pretty decent botanical garden. I’ve been to many in the United States and have some positive and negative things to say about this place.
Positives
-Free
-Many little ecosystems/“rooms”
-Close to metro bus stops
-Interactive activities
Negatives
-Very crowded
-Some plants weren’t well maintained
If you’re in the area, I would check it out, but I wouldn’t go out of your way to see this place in D.C.. You won’t spend more than 30 minutes here because it’s pretty small, and if it’s as crowded as the day I went, you won’t want to be here for more than 30 minutes.
Juan Castillo
Not just a botanical garden —THE BEST Botanical garden in the country. You are not going to be disappointed when you walk in a experience the beauty of our nature in the Capital city. You must visit and enjoy this unique place —staff and volunteers are phenomenal and the relaxing atmosphere is here to stay.
Suzanne Hodgson
The Botanical gardens were a delight to walk round and believe it or not was a slightly cooler temperature then the outside.
The gardens are well kept, lots of interesting information on many of the plants and very nicely set out. It does close promptly at 5pm.
Alexander Blocker
One of my favorite places in all of DC. The central two-story conservatory is magnificent, and you can walk around the entire upper deck for a unique vantage point and to see the crowns of the trees up close. Also, the great height of the USBG conservatory allows for real trees to grow in there, as opposed to conservatories with lower ceilings where branches are displayed on artificial trunks.
The elongated garden court in the front is so elegant, and the other biomes are interesting and educational. I like their online cooking programs, too.
And definitely don't miss the holiday train show each December! I can't believe it's all free, all the time.
August M
Such a cool botanic garden on the mall! The conservatory has multiple climates featuring a wide variety of plants from all over, as well as some cool DC land works built out of natural materials. Definitely worth a stop.
Wade Williams
A beautiful place to spend time in, and even outside. The environment inside feels like a rainforest, which I loved. It was so cool to see a little stream running through the gardens. And the views from the balcony are fantastic, and even have some nice benches to sit and relax and enjoy the environment.
- visited on July 10, 2022

Such a beautiful & relaxing botanic garden. I got lucky & visited on a day when the corpse flower had just opened up! The tropics room is amazing. Be sure to also visit Bartholdi fountain across the street, which is part of the botanic garden. Lovely place to sit & just take in the view.
Jahyun Kim
It was a cold day. The inside of the garden was very warm, enough to warm the cold body. Many people were already entering with family or friends. Numerous plants were planted by region and neatly arranged, so it was good to see. It is recommended as a place to visit before or after visiting the U.S. Capitol.
Sven Lauterwasser
Free admission and some really cool outdoor spaces. Multiple outside spots that are nice to sit for a while and relax.
Several different environments to explore inside, with a good variety of plants. Also has a (very) small childrens playground and activity area on the inside.
Worth a visit, but it's surprisingly small. One can easily see everything in about 90 minutes without rushing.
Uddin Nipu
I really like this place. They have variety of plants of different regions like dessert to marshy land. Most exciting thing is entry is free. Whole garden is divided into different parts and every parts is uniquely organised with different type of plants.
Aaron Girdner
Loved it! Wouldn't necessarily recommend going in the middle of the summer - the humidity is killer. That being said, the grounds are really well kept and there's a variety of climate zones to explore.
Jim Mann
My family & I have been going here since I was a child. Great location for all that offers exotic views of plants & trees from all over the world. Very educational for all ages, and recommended coming during the holiday season in December.
rodrigo calderon
The place is magical! You cant miss this place when you visit DC; an amazingly curated botanical garden. It has regional greenhouses where you will find different climates and vegetation, from around the globe in the same place. Simply awesome!!
Rich McIntyre
This location is the most wonderful place to be at CHRISTMAS time. There is so much going on and the surprises are endless and yes free to everyone. I can't begin to tell you what 's in store for those brave enough to make the journey! Enjoy!!!!
Ben Balden
There are so many plants that were so beautiful. Like many of the museums in the area it was free admission. If you love plants you can spend a lot of time here. If it’s hot outside don’t get out of the heat. The greenhousehouses are warm.
Ashley Mauzy
Just visited this beautiful botanic garden this past weekend with my friends from out of town. This place is so refreshing and is a perfect getaway in the city.
It was my first time in a botanic garden and I would say it is a great option for if you want to find unique plans outside on a cold weekend in DC. They have cool exhibits running each season as well! Check it out. 🌴
Velvet Barnes-Grimshaw
Beautifully breathtaking! My husband & I had a picnic style lunch in Bartholdi Gardens & everything was perfect! Then we headed over to the actual Conservatory which was setup like an actual rainforest.
Krissy Kallemyn
We love the botanical gardens. Year round they are beautiful! At Christmas time they have a great train display outdoors and inside they decorate with mini replicas of DC buildings made of plant pieces.
Glen Alamo
How I wish I had access to such a beautiful place back home. Plant lovers delight. Collections had me doing double and triple takes everywhere I looked. I would have breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. I will recommend it even to non-plant lovers.
J Z
A hidden gem in the cold DC winter. A good variety of tropical and rare plants which you won’t see in any other parts of this region. The outside garden is closed in winter. We would like to visit again when the weather is warmer.
Renita Lake
I went to check out the corpse flower because why not. It is bigger than I imagined - the gardens, not the flower. Very cool. I will go back when I am not concerned for my curls' survival. I even picked up a couple of new plant babies to add to my puny collection. Pray for them~
Sharlisa
My 7 year old really enjoyed herself hunting for plants that make up her favorite foods. This museum was very informative about plants, agriculture and the past and future of food. The children’s garden wasn’t open this time of year and that was only con. I would recommend this to other family’s the homeschool and unschool.
Jacob Aronson
We started just going for a relaxing walk through the outdoor gardens and seeing the plants from around the mid-east, and then the inside took our breath away (good thing the air was fresh)! Absolutely amazing and definitely recommend a visit! Make sure you check out all of the rooms, everything from primeval to medicinal.
Ligia B (Lulu)
One of the most beautiful conservatories I’ve ever visited, and that’s saying a lot for a plant nerd like me lol some of the outdoor gardens were closed since it’s winter but the orchid collections are incredible and there are so many things to see. If you love plants, you can easily spend 2-3 hours here
Deanne Jones
Not my favorite place we visited but worth seeing. So many plants that I had never seen before. They were setting up there,"live,"reproductions of the buildings in DC. Those were fun.
Perry Churgin
This is one of the best places in the Capital and in the National Mall, im so happy I walked in. They have some incredible exhibits, explanations and demonstrations of plants and eco systems. There was lovely volunteer, Pam, who explaind to anyone that day about the production of coca beans in to chocolate. Most of the outdoors parts were sad because its winter, but still worth it.
Skye Hankins
The US Botanic Garden in DC has beautiful flora! Best part is that it's free and does not require reservations. It takes roughly 30~ minutes to walk through with some bench seating and a very small gift shop. They have various pineapples and tomatoes growing, which I was not expecting. It's certainly worth visit if you're in the area.
Karin E
Great place for plants lovers! Inside the building there is a place for kids to cool off and play around. They have an exhibition of how the garden veggies grow.
Amanda Jo Wright
Went to see the Corpse Flower but missed its bloom by one day. Bummed about that but the rest of the garden was amazing! Everyone should definitely check out this gem when visiting DC.
Kellee Soup
This is free and gorgeous collection of all kinds of plants and flowers. We came the week of Christmas and saw a lot. Only a handful of dead trees. Can get a bit crowded with strollers and kids but still worth it.
Greg Wells
Always love seeing the amazing miniature buildings and monuments during the holidays. I love the addition of Zeeks tent outside serving up hot chocolate and coffee while you watch the model trains.
Ashley Malone
Let's just say, to enjoy the full beauty of plant species I should have gone at another time. The Rose Garden needed some serious tlc (tender loving care) as many flowers were obviously dying. Vegetation within the conservatory were thriving though the mist and the heat made the air stuffy inside. Their exhibits truly focus on plants native to the US. Parking is limited around the area. Meters are available on cross streets.
Matt Konopa
Well worth the trip. Many great trees and flowers to stroll by and enjoy. There is a great tucked away kids area where little ones can practice planting and watering plants.
Rachel Goldberg
Beautiful and interesting! Easy to spend hours and hours here if you're not careful. We went earlier in the day so it wasn't too crowded.
Jude Aidam
Unique but was a little too crowded on this visit day. Could browse through and complete in 45 - 60 mins. Winter train display was great. Oh btw was also $0...nice.
Sarah Waugaman
This was not on our list of "must do" things in DC. We needed to waste some time so decided to pop in. So glad we did!! There are so many plants from all over. One whole room dedicated to Orchids. So much information.
Lara Hamze
This was a fun and beautiful place to visit. I went on a Sunday afternoon, so it was kinda crowded. Many families with children were there. The staff was kind and helpful.
Valerie Rose
Sunday mornings there is less of a rush, it's easier to take photos. Great place for families too. Check out the vegetables and crops at Bartholdi Fountain and Garden
Mike Johnson
Amazing collection of live plants from around the world. Popular destination for school groups. Organized by biome: mostly tropical but also desert. No charge for admission.
Heidi Bohan
So glad we made time for this, the holiday displays were fun, the models of Capitol monuments made from parts of plants were amazing, the many habitats of plants excellent, and the super fun train and farms from around the world wonderful.
allan frey
If you wanna see flowers and exotic trees from all over the world this is the place to go. They have a little bit of everything inside and out. There is even a place for kids to Learn.
Justin Eby
I loved this place so much! The staff were super friendly, the pathways were clear and well marked, and the exhibits, medicinal and desert, were both intriguing and clearly displayed. I would encourage everyone to go!
Carlos Lopez
Really enjoyed this large free botanic. I especially enjoyed the section with the food types and history. So cool that they are right next to the white house.
Julia
Place was crouded, and there was no direction. There is a section that has stairs to go up but there was no elevator so people on wheelchair or with strollers can't see that part of the garden exhibit..and if there was an elevator/lift it was extremely difficult to find give that the staff only stay at the front of the museum.
Douglas Figueroa
Gorgeous place, with a lot of beautiful plants from all over the world, grouped by region. The garden is close the Capitol and the national mall. Totally recommended.
Kelly Lee
It's free!
Nice garden in and out of the building!
If you have kids, make sure to grab the activity books from the front desk. It's free and kids love it.
Dj Bonzz
An amazing American Heritage since the 1920’s this place is simply amazing. It’s Banzai trees are one reason to visit here for sure but the trees OMG the trees located throughout the preserve. Conifers-Holly- Dawn Redwoods are simply amazing and the Asian Valley area. The Columns are very photogenic but the benches throughout the gardens to sit and reflect on these magnificent trees our symbiotic brothers. This place is filled with love for nature. Don’t miss it spend an afternoon here you won’t regret it.
Nida Islam
Really enjoyed it! Very refreshing and relaxing. I went in fall, cold weather so being inside felt good! Definitely worth visiting.
Leslie
This place is so beautiful. A little confusing to navigate but nothing that can't be figured out. It is very humid there so I would like to go early spring or in the cool fall time.
Jennifer McNerney
So, what was most impressive was the issue train display, and the miniature monuments and buildings that were created by parts of nature displaying incredible craftsmanship. Of course the outdoor garden is likely worth a trip in the spring, but with not much to see this time of year.
Jaime Nava
If your a HUGE plant lover,or just want a cute romantic day/picnic this is the place to go.The pictures don’t give this place justice. You can spend atleast 3 hours looking at all the beautiful plants.
Mecool 21
This is a mist go to place if you in D.C. they have some many different types of plants and great places to take pics just an amazing place the tropical was my fav just wish they had more flowers in there
Samantha Carp
So beautiful & peaceful. It would be a great place to just relax & read a book.. Also have an outdoor kid area with water.
Ana Maria Alvarez
This is such a beautiful garden. I recommend to anyone who likes plants and take your kids here! My favorite were the orchids.
Carlee Bird
Such a beautiful experience! Would recommend visiting for an adventure or to sit and enjoy your coffee! Loved being able to soak in all the greens.
Norman Gonzalez
Free place to visit in DC. The display of orchids when we base it was amazing. It wasn't too fool but it wasn't empty either, we had a good time
Tom Gardiner
This is a real gem of a "museum" and so wonderful to see. There are different "climate zones" with plants from around the world. My only regret is we didn't spend more time there, but we'll be back.
smallwang
Most plants are in the warm house therefore it is vivid even in winter. There are lots of different kinds of plants all over the world. The scientific introduction is also interesting so it is suitable for children to visit.
Subramaniam A
Beauty of the garden is enhanced by information - all plants are named with botanical and common name.
Their traditionally growing area is also indicated - eg South Western USA
Many plants traditionally from outside USA are also featured
A section shows Hydroponic method of growing plants in water - we saw big tomatoes and chilies.
Numerous desert plants and cactii flourish in artificially maintained climatic conditions
Delia Telep
It's a dream in here, so happy they reopened the inside. Absolutely beautiful outside gardens could spend the whole day here.
Gaby Arcia
Visiting the United States Botanic Garden was part of my first trip in Washington DC. I think this place must be incredible during spring. It was interesting for me the way they recreated different ecosystems and you can see the vegetation of each one of them.
Hallie O'Rourke
Was very crowded with tourists and families. Gardens itself are beautiful. There is only one bathroom located at the back of the gardens which was a bit difficult to locate. We visited while the holiday display was still ongoing and really enjoyed the train exhibit. Overall a good experience and worth visiting at least once.
Angela Lard
A lovely break break from monuments, and American history, beautiful displays of plants from a wide variety of environments.
It was fascinating to note conservation efforts.
M R (Pebbles)
Some really beautiful plants to see here.
I would love to have seen more kid focused activities here to enhance learning, but it was nice regardless.
Nils Hünerfürst
Definitely worth to see. Not super big but intense. So much to see and smell. Although the West and East Gallery’s are super informative.
Angelica Hurst
A nice little place to check out. You can get some great pics & there's a variety of plants to see in the greenhouse. Just very hot during the summer & it's quick to go through.
Shelly Durkee
Was surprised by how much there is to see here! Well curated collection of plants, beautiful tropical section. Very crowded though, so be prepared for that.
Jeff G
Free and so beautiful, it amazed me this is not advertised more when people travel to DC, they have a great set of different biomes, indoor and outdoor areas, science equipment such as hydroponics, art and sculptures and more! Come and enjoy for free!!
Maya Skalski
We love going there during Christmas time. The train set up is really nice this year and so are the Christmas decorations.
Jenni Mosby
First time to visit USBotanic Garden
It’s really interesting place
I saw a lot of unique tree and beautiful flowers
Improve my knowledge about plant, food and cuisine
Highly recommend for family
NODOS CREATIVOS PUBLICIDAD 360
super cool super nice I think it's one of the best The diversity of species is a beautiful tour for families and friends it is a good place to enjoy
Sheila Lo Monaco
Great place for cool down in a hot day in DC beautiful grounds and free for the taken.
Plants of all kind, educational and fun.
Erica Leeanne
probably would be much nicer in the spring/summer, orchids section was closed and not much to see outdoors- still plenty of plants and the tropical room was definitely a highlight!
SiQing Xu
As a plant enthusiast this place was magical. It was very packed likely bc we went during Presidents Day weekend. But overall still a very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend.
Maggie Gorini
Visited the Botanic Gardens a week ago to check out their annual monument displays and the train sets (farm themed). The inside of the gardens are decorated with dozens of poinsettias as well. Featured here is also the decorated tree out front!
John M
If you love plants, you have to visit the botanic garden. Beautiful building! Spotlessly clean! Friendly staff!
Petunia
Very creative sculptures of major monuments made using plants and great plant rooms. The tropics room was massive!
Katherine Miller-Purrenhage
All gardens are stunning and very well maintained! It’s amazing to see plants from so many different climates
Joshua Aulet
Very nice garden! One of my favorites I've been to. Restrooms were very clean too. I didn't check out the outdoor one but it seemed pretty!
Lindsay J
Enjoyed the Orchid Show. Beautiful Colors, Smells, Flowers. Staff was polite and helpful.
M F
Beautiful place! Amazing array of plant life, loved the variety offered. I hadn’t been in years and I’m happy to say I loved it as much as my first time.
Kayla Huntley
Loved it, although we ran into a lot of protestors in the streets, in front of the botanical gardens, but over all an amazing experience!
Justin Bivens
If you need ideas for your garden this is the place to see! Amazing setup with separate exhibits for various climates
Precious Ntombenhle
I had so much fun I would do it over and over again. It's an educational tour you learn so much about different types of flowers and plants
Tara Schroth
This was a great museum! I really enjoyed the desert room and the canopy walkway. The pineapples in the bathroom were a nice touch as well. The employees were very nice and seemed passionate about their work. I would highly recommend this (free!) garden to anyone visiting the DC area!!
Logemann Wissanee
This is beautiful!! I love the way they decorated. It's a good place to visit.

Such a beautiful place! Very peaceful and serene. This is a must see!
Wendi the Wanderer
A beautiful and well maintained garden open to the public at no cost. Recommend stopping by when visiting the Capitol Hill area
jim perry
Great place to visit. If your into plants you could spend the entire day there. If you’re just looking for a quick visit that’s fine also. The grounds outside are great and inside is amazing.
Mukta Singh
5-10 minutes walk from the US state capitol, the US botanic garden is a beautiful, lush green treat to watch..
Jennifer Kim
It was an amazing experience to see diversity of plants from many other countries. And I could realize how beautiful plants are!🌿🌵🌳 …
Verónica Carrera del Río
It was surpresingly beautiful. Even if you are not that much into plants you should visit.
A C
The Christmas exhibit is a must-see! These gardens are so underrated, always beautiful and informative
Heather Brushwood
The tropical garden is spectacular, smells, looks, and feels tropical. The garden is well maintained and plants are nicely labeled. Beautiful place to visit.
Nicole Earle
Beautiful gardens with various plants from the country’s many different environments. I highly recommend visiting during the holidays so you can see the train setup outside.
Kara Citarella
Beautiful place to explore! The map was a bit confusing, but we had a lot of fun and the people were helpful.
Jasmine Arnold
It was beautiful. I love how the foliage was separated by categories. They even had a cute scavenger hunt.
Mariu E.
Unfortunately we only had 30 minutes to visit. The variety of plants is amazing! We will definitely go back and spend more time there.
Colleen Mcdonald
nice place to hang out and sit for a bit. definitely not a cool place so if it’s hot out be prepared to be humid inside
Marc Wills
Very cool displays of all the buildings in the nation's capital plus a holiday train display outside!!
Donnalese Desiral
Amazing! The capital is right next to it so why not stop by and take a look. It’s worth it! Plus there’s a bathroom and AC!
Lindsey Cavender
Haven't been in years but my son was intrigued, so we explored and it exceeded our expectations. Children's garden was a hit, along with the Venus flytrap and the Sensitive Plant.
Kiran Khan
It was a very beautiful place, really made me understand the importance of every plant in our environment and was the best part of my D.C trip.
Ftyropek
a diverse array of plant life from across the world. the changes in climate between exhibits are very noticeable.
WanderlustBeauty Dreams (WanderlustBeautyDreams)
Such a gorgeous botanical garden. Loved it so much I visited twice during my trip in DC!
Loraine Wilson
Great visit... first time, enjoyed the variety of plant habitats and species of plant.
Muhammed Jawla
Beautiful place if you love plants! So much to see on plants and agriculture & crops from different cultures and different parts of the world. Loved the medicinal plants section especially!
Mike Harris
There is a lot of ground to cover here. It's beautiful. It's free. And peaceful
samantha wade
Absolutely beautiful. The diversity of the exhibits were amazing. In the main exhibit, you can go on the catwalk and see from above. It has its own unique perspective and different variety of plants and flowers as well.
The gift shop is very small and not a huge selection to choose from, but still lovely just the same.
John Thompson
The building was closed, but we were able to explore the garden area which is dense enough to be able to think you are in the woods outside the city. The Patrick Dougherty Stickwork Sculpture was an interesting maze to walk through. We found a bird nest in the twisted vines used to make the sculpture.
Kye Lippold
Great collection of plants in different biomes. Don't miss the catwalk in the tropics. They also have neat rotating exhibits in the outdoor garden.
Sugary Sweet
A great DC freebie to visit on a sunny day☀️ I visited during the orchid exhibit and staff were very friendly and knowledgeable🌺💐 …
Raony França
Gorgeous. You can see planta from Hawaii, rainforest and the deserts, all in one place.
Critical Chris
An amazing educational asset in the heart of the nation’s capital. Come young, come old, you will be amazed!
Rodrigo Gonzalez
Are you interested in plants and natural history? So you have to visit this place. They have plants from everywhere. The place is clean, safe, and very well-cared. I spent the whole evening going on from plant to plant to learn more about them.
Sherilyn Newswanger
A lovely free place! You have a great view of the capitol building when standing by the gardens entrance!
Zachary Hottel
This is a really cool place to visit. It is also a hidden gem, so it wont be as crowded as the rest of the monuments.
The botanical gardens has a wonderful series of artificial biosphere filled with various plants from around the world.
Prepare to be amazed by the variety of items and the information presented.
The facility is modern and well designed. Staff are very friendly and open to helping you.
Miriam Sadofsky
We recently went to the botanical garden to see both the holiday train display and the indoor plants. This was an excellent activity for our 3 and 1 year old grandchildren. And the adults loved it as well. There are places on benches/tables to have snacks and lunch for the kiddos. Inside the botanical gardens there are restrooms. However, there were not diaper changing decks in the men's room. In this day and age, this is not acceptable in a public building.
Hilda Kroll
Now is the time to come and enjoy the annual orchid exhibit, held every other year at the Botanic Garden. The special Christmas exhibit, with model trains and models of DC monuments, is something that shouldn't be missed. Always a beautiful place to spend time, especially on a bright, sunny day.
Iris D
So much to explore. They have different activities through the day which is great if you have children! Their selection of plants/herbs is impressive. The ground are beautifully kept and there’s plenty of spaces to seat down & enjoy 😊
One of my favorite botanicals. …
Sarah Dubois
Amazing place to visit for an hour or two. Relaxing environment, clean and beautiful! Definitely will be back.
Tan Sav
I wish it were a bigger space with additional gardens and more outdoor displays. If ur on the mall or down by the capital it's a nice stop, but not a destination.
Michael Marks
Just the right size for a few hours of enjoyment. Beautiful sections with Tropical being the largest. Use the tour gear for lots of educational potential. Don't miss the outside gardens around the main building. Downtown DC on the Mall, so parking is at a premium. Metro advised.
Nikky Cavanaugh
If you love everything about plants, flowers, etc... then, I reccomend you go here. Not to mention, the whole vicinity is historic and educational!!
Roger L'Heureux
Had a great visit to the Botanical Gardens.
If you enjoy touring Botanical Gardens, then this one should be on your list.
Really well done, laid out nicely, has some great "sections" like an Orchid room, plants used for medical room, Mediterranean section etc.
Really great selection of cactus!
Walk the outside just to take a break from being in the city while you tour the Mall in Washington.
There were a number of places to sit and take a break from walking as well.
Adarsh Kottukkal
Cool place. Orchid section was great. Climate controlled rooms have different types of plants.
Zachary Duvall
I've lived in DC for a year and a half and finally got around to coming here. I loved it! This could become one of my favorite places to visit on the national Mall. They have such a variety of plants from all over the world, and it's awesome that they are available to be seen year round because of the indoor gardens :)
Pauline Edwards
Such a beautiful place. The tiny buildings among the plants are all made with different plant bits. A must see
Corey Goldstone
Worth a visit if you need some shade after visiting the Mall in Washington DC. Lots of different type of plants. Interesting to look at.
Gabriel Aguto
Beautiful exhibits of various ecosystems, lovely gardens with a fountain as well.
Niniko Nachkebiya
Nice place to go on a weekend, lots of beautiful plants.
Noah Reed
Great place to walk through and admire the plants. Very well kept and informative. If you can happen to catch a tour, tag along! Favorite part was definitely the room of plants used for medicine, super cool to get to learn about!
Soph Meldrum
Lovely gardens super close to capitol so easy to stop by when sightseeing. At the time of our visit there was a model train going around a centre piece featuring plants and clay models of different species from around the world eg. A plant from South Australia coupled with a model of a winery. Was really well done and great to see for all ages.
Michael Valdivielso
Wonderful place to visit, relaxing, good staff, just make sure not to go during special events because it will be crowded! Outside of that it is a island of calm in a ocean of noise and chaos.
Update - the gardens around the Conservatory are available before 10 AM. I went today and even with a few classes visiting it was okay. A LOT of exhibits and displays packed into one building. Don't forget to visit the garderns across Independence Ave. And check out the gift shop.
Stacy Arredondo
The most beautiful inside and outside environmental plants and even better for each environment was awesome.
Vincent Vog
Incredible display of different plants and more. An absolute must for everybody visiting the Mall!
Jerry Stewart
Wonderful place, tons of different specimens. Even a corpse plant!
Angela Mtungwa
Beautiful peaceful setting. Some of the areas were closed for the season so it seemed smaller than I remembered. Even with an 84-year old in our group and multiple rest breaks, we completed the indoor area in less than an hour. It's worth the trip, especially for plant lovers, in conjunction with visiting the Capitol grounds, National Mall and monuments, a museum, or lunch nearby.
Jade Bean
SUPER AWESOME & no matter what time you go there will be a small crowd but it's free so it's not a bad offset. So many amazing plants to see my kids loved it. Has so much fun. Take the train to get there as there is NO PARKING
Craig Y
Really enjoyed this place. Would recommend
Chloe Costello
This was very cool! I loved all the big D.C. land marks made out of plant materials, I also loved all the different habitats with different plants! One second your in the desert, the next you in a tropical paradise! highly recommend this place!
Jimmy Suarez
I wish I lived in this city just to be able to visit this garden more often😅 The array of flowers, plants and exotic flora from different regions is such an eye pleasing experience. The place is huge and it’s just an amazing way to connect with the beauty of nature for a moment. A MUST if visiting the US Capitol grounds. …
Aimee Lagrave
I love the botanical garden! It's a beautiful space and right now they have a lovely exhibit by an artist depicting the buildings around the national mall
Beth Dacey
Amazing old world charm at the footsteps of the nation’s seat of government.
What it lacks in size it makes up for in stature. Wonderful collection that was joyous to visit on a dismal day. They had all the sites in a botanist version of a holiday gingerbread house. Spectacular.
Rezwan Ahmed
Amazing exhibition, and even more fantastic that this was free. The displays of well-known DC landmarks and museums made of plants were spectacular. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Must-see for anyone and everyone.
Kenneth Mankowski
You could spend all day in here. The flowers and plants were well maintained and we were able to find everything we were looking for. If we couldn't, the staff was nearby to provide welcome assistance. They even walked us directly to an exhibit.
Also take the time to visit the outdoor gardens.
Mallory Boyd
The holiday trains are back! Don't miss this great small treasure. The theme is Farming Around the World. All structures are made of organic materials. It's outside so come prepared for the weather.
And best of all- it's free!
Easton Jackson
We went here in December, went a lot of the outside attractions are pretty cold. This one has more of a tropical feel inside the greenhouse area. It's much warmer than everything else, even hot and humid. It was a nice change from the cold weather outside.
Bon
Beautiful holiday decorations at night. Very close to the capitol Christmas tree.
Lily
Absolutely stunning holiday display, the craftsmanship is truly impressive
Sheri B
Very well put together Botanical gardens. We weren't on here very long as we didn't have much time. Such an array of different trees and plants. I didn't see much for flowers but it could definitely be the time of year that we were here.
J
Just beautiful! I recommend for anyone who gets a chance to visit the Botanic Garden in Washington D.C. see plants, flowers, trees, etc. from all around the world and from all different climates. Truly a stunning place. If you enjoy flowers, plants of all kinds from all around the world this is a must see!
Ahmed Abdulmajeed
A must visit. Especially around the Holidays. It was really empty on Christmas day when I visited, which made for a short line to get in. There's a stand with good coffee outside. Check out their exhibits, they do a really good job making art with plants. Also, I recommend reading the introductory signs next to the plans. Really interesting information.
vanessa g
Went two weeks ago with friends and fam, Lovely!
Adam Fino
Great place to take the family! Everyone will enjoy the amazing plants the garden has. Not only do they have plants but they have different themes depending on the time of year! Fun and appealing sites are to be had here so dont underestimate the fact that it's a garden. This place is huge and just like any place in the area it requires you to walk so wear good walking shoes.
James Lau
We did not have high expectations. It ended up Botanical garden was a very interesting place. Many different plants that we had never seen before. It even had plants of some of the known chemotherapy agents. We easily spent a few hours there. We enjoyed our visit .
bloodlust red
Smaller but well-maintained botanic garden and conservatory. Smaller than one in Glasgow Scotland, but way better maintained and organized as well as accommodating more various plants and their environmental needs.
Very educational and good location by next to the US Capitol.
Well weather control therefore make it a very good place to visit in inclement weather.
Only place open during christmas day thus very crowded even in winter season.
Definitely worth to visit in spring season.
Kyle Hartmann
Would highly recommend if you are anywhere in the DMV area. Place is kept very clean, with good signage and educational opportunities sprinkled throughout the gardens, and the specimens they have are phenomenal. All the gardeners are very nice and care about what they do, and as an added bonus, there is always a fun and fresh display going on depending on the season. The holiday show is very busy, and it is the only event that they charge for having no admission cost throughout the year. Some say the federal government is wasteful, but they are spending every penny rightly at the USBG. The photos do not do the place justice- also, it has brilliant views of the Capitol Building just a skip away.
Rachel Iverson
Amazing experience and it’s free! My favorite was the orchid room and the ponds with the lily pads. You can take tours or do an audio tour on your own. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I throughly enjoyed my time here.
Tea
So many cool and interesting plants! Great way to spend a weekend morning with family or just venturing on your own (rain, shine, or snow).
Aparna B
We visited this place during christmas and train show was hit outside and the jungle Saying it in happy way. The amount of trees and plants inside and varieties of it is just an awe for me, I have seen they even have beetle leaves/ pan plant from India and need tree, but I guess I missed curry leaves or may be didn't see it, It was such an authentic experience- I am truly a fan and wish I shd visit every year atleast once.
Margee Moore
Beautiful, botanical gardens with impressive rotating displays. For the holidays, they have replicas of historically significant buildings in natural materials like bark, acorns and twigs. They were worth the trip to pop in. The tropical room has a high platform where you can look down on the plants. Most of all, the glass building is lovely. Don’t miss this while in DC!
Lysa L
This place is beautiful with many rooms filled with endangered or simply beautiful plants. I thought it would be bigger than it was but I’m not complaining. It’s an amazing place to take pictures. It’s definitely not an all day experience more of like a hour trip. It’s free it is a nice side trip after visiting the capital.
Patti Dybdahl
Definitely worth the visit. Check the calendar for exhibits. There are benches around the exterior and interior to sit on and enjoy the views. We went for the Season Greetings America exhibit. It was amazing, complete with trains. Great place to visit fir adults & kids.
Andrea Bindewald
Our family really enjoyed the Botanical Gardens. We went Thanksgiving week. It wasn't too crowded. The DC Landmarks made out of plants and plant products were really cool. The place is very well laid out and the plants and trees are beautiful, things are well labeled and easy to read. Our kids ages were from 3-12 and we all loved it. We are looking forward to go back in the spring to tour the outside gardens!
Natalie M
This is well worth the visit, there are a variety of different themed areas, including a prehistoric plants area which is fun for dinosaur enthusiasts. The gardens outside are also nice to walk around in and quite peaceful because not many people visit. Also a beautiful orchid collection.
Tom LaRocque
Very cool experience - loved it!
Judy Blanco
Very lovely, I personally enjoyed this this most on my trip. The kids garden was closed, other than that it was very peaceful & beautiful. Entrance was free!
Patrick Olson
A bit crowded but great spot next to the capitol. Probably spend about an 1.5 hours here if you plan on coming. Rewild is has a location with in the Garden with souvenirs and live plants for purchase.
Jeneen G
Best place to hang out and be around plants from different biomes -- tropical, Mediterranean, desert, etc. They have rare plants as well. They often have exhibits indoors and outdoors, including a train exhibit every Christmas with a different theme every time. The exhibits DC monuments, memorials and buildings recreated entirely out of plant materials are also not to be missed.
Kelsey Ross
I visited the botanic garden for the first time this December. I didn’t know what to expect during the winter, but i has a great time! They had holiday plants and decorations up, a train room and lots of tropical plants as well. In the main entrance they had iconic DC monuments and buildings made out of twigs, acorns, etc. (see pictures) My favorite was the orchid room. I went on a weekday and it was the perfect time to go - no crowds at all. Highly recommend!!
David Johnson
Going to the Botanical Gardens was an excellent DC experience for the whole family. Apart from costing except street parking, the facility is very well kept, with a vast assortment of gorgeous things to look at. With multiple levels showcasing plant life from all over the world, it is easy to spend many hours roaming both inside and around the building itself. There is also an entire area dedicated to children, who can plant and water flowers or play on a small playground. Although no food is offered inside, there happens to be a mass of food trucks located about 400 feet from the building. I would love to go back!
Divyanshu Mahajan
Having visited many Botanic Gardens I chose not to visit here, but alas rainy day! I was Glad it poured and I got a chance to see the well maintained and beautifully laid out gardens with a proper route recreating different plants from around the world.
Joey Mollica
Always a great time at the Botanic Garden! Free admission, open year-round (even holidays) and great exhibits.
My favorite regular exhibit is the Medicinal Plants garden... It's neat to see plants I'm familiar with eating being used medicinally.
Jessica Graziano
The Botanical gardens in Washington is well worth the visit if you love plants. They have several sections set up with it's own unique set of native plants. Such as tropical, medical, rainforest etc. There is a outside area also. But in winter they drain the water from the fountain. So to get the full advantage of all the beauty inside and out visit after the cold has left. They also provide a fun scavenger hunt for the little ones. So they can learn as you go. The tropical section has 3 story canopy viewing section. To allow you to see things from the top. Pretty cool. Over all we enjoyed the scenery and it was a good little stop. Took us about a hour.
Divyanshi Jain
It was a great learning experience with me and my family. It is also great for all ages. I honestly loved the part where you can buy fruit that they had grown at the botanical Gardens it was epic! It also had different type of plants not only did they have North Carolina plants, they also had plants from all around the United States. My grandparents love the medical section of the botanical Garden.
Pamila Gray
Lovely Christmas display, with the addition of some very beautiful and intricate scale models of Washington Landmarks. Be aware parking down at the Mall is tight, so be prepared to walk a bit. Definitely worth the trouble!
M. Nicolaysen
Simply beautiful gardens. Very well maintained. Enjoyed a volunteer-led highlight tour - she was very informative and friendly. The interior is very well organized and the plants are labeled clearly; the rooms are divided by regions and area. Essay to follow and very relaxing atmosphere.
Suzanne Ainey
07 April 2019, Sat visit.
Very much enjoyed the gardens!
*Be sure to dress in easy to remove layers if visiting in non-summer seasons. It gets very hot and humid in the tropical section.
Zachary Triano
Small botanic garden but worth the visit.
Tony Di Schino
Great location right on the mall at the base of Capitol Hill. It seemed that you could escape the hustle and grind of DC by just passing through the gates or into the conservatory. Beautiful samples from all over the country and world. Very informative. Although we didn't take the guided tour we could overhear and it sounded well curated.
Saurabha Deshpande
Lovely place to scroll pass some beautiful plants. This place will give u some breathing space in summers after visiting US Capitol hill in Washington DC visit. Great place for kids and families.
Must go place if you are a nature lover. Cheers
Marcus Rothell
Model train station is a must see for families with younger children!
Tiffany Morisue
A must do attraction for the family! Beautiful and educational. Great scavenger hunt activity which kept my kids, ages 10 and 11, super engaged not only this visit, but when we visited during spring break 2016 (making it a must do again for this visit). Split up into rooms/areas by theme/climate. If we visit DC a third time, we will definitely visit the Botanic Garden yet again!
Valerie K
The United States Botanic Garden Conservatory is beautiful place to visit. Free parking and no charge to spend the day marveling at the most gorgeous flowers and plants. There was even a children's garden where kids can be kids. This was my first visit and I definitely want to go again.
Albert Wu
If the National Arboretum is too far for you, the US Botanical Gardens are a great alternative that lie right on the mall near the Capitol Building. There are two sections to the gardens, an exterior National Garden and an interior Conservatory (there is also Bartholdi Park, which has the Fountain of Light and Water). If you’re coming from the direction of the Mall, you can walk through the Garden first, which is divided into regional sections and holds attractions like the Kitchen Garden, First Ladies Garden, and Butterfly Garden. You can then make your way towards the giant glass dome and enter the conservatory, which is a huge, two-story glass structure which has an abundance of plants arranged among photogenic settings. It contains an orchid room, a section on medicinal plants, and a rare and endangered plants section, among others. There are also tours available.
Ignacio Santana
Great exhibit of plants from all over the world! Cool little exhibits and a children-specific one for the kiddos. Warm in the winter, if you'd like to escape the cold/rain for a bit. Expect to spend about an hour in here.
Brian Donovan
Stopped in to see this year’s holiday display. The mix of historic landmarks constructed of woodland tinder, floral displays and garden trains is always a crowd pleaser. The outdoor display of the “O Say Can You See” tree fort on steroids was a special delight!
Manuel Cortes
My friends and I didn't have much time to visit the whole museum as we were leaving DC soon, but we loved what we experienced. I'm planning to come back again to fully enjoy the display and variety of plants and its relaxing atmosphere. The place is divided in different rooms and you can really experience a different ambiance as you walk through them.
Jenzi Lee
We went to see the corpse flowers, not knowing that they only bloom once every few years, and it happens randomly. So, if you're going for the flowers, it's all luck... BUT, it's still a great place to visit. There are lots of flowers and you can go to the second floor of the main garden and get a nice aerial view. We were going to spend half an hour, but ended up spending just above an hour there.
S N
We visited the Botanical Garden for their holiday display again this year and it was amazing as usual. In addition to the usual sites of plants from around the world, they also have handmade replicas of famous sites from around DC and this year, from around the country. Even if you can't make it for the holiday display, the Botanical Garden in such a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours walking through various climates and seeing a huge variety of plants.
Foster Walker
Loved the different plant areas including flower, rain forest, etc. Many young people and children enjoying the site. Had a 12noon tour with volunteer which was super interesting. Always hoping to translate ideas into my own garden.
Tony Toth
the perfect place to warm the soul on a cold day! walk high in the rain forest canopy. marvel at the beautiful varieties of cactus in the dry desert. see where chocolate comes from!
Min Zhang
Great holiday displays!
Robert Minichino
Really nice place. Good place to cool down so long as you stay out of the tropical room.
Nicole Wescoe
The botanical garden is beautiful, peaceful, and most importantly, FREE! I loved walking around and taking in the different atmospheres and environments. Its definitely worth checking out and if I lived in the city I'd probably go more than once!
Liz Slusser
I would spend as much time as possible at the botanical gardens if I was in the DC area frequently! They have an amazing collection that I could spend hours with - especially in the upper canopy of the tropics room.
As far as things to do; there's a good audio tour, interesting displays to learn about farming and how plants are used in various aspects of our lives, a small outdoor kids area, and there's a very small gift shop that has some cute gift items for the plant enthusiast in your life, too. The grounds of the gardens are very cool right now (summer) with veggies, herbs, and food plants.
Hours are decent and the price is right (free!)! Totally worth taking a lunch date to check it out!
Eric Swirsky
An amazing visit! I had some time to spare before getting on the train so I stopped in here. Like many places in DC, it is free to enter
Inside the conservatory you can see a huge variety of amazing plants from all over the world, kept safe in their own climated rooms. There is even a room for Evening Orchids kept in twilight to show off their amazing bloom
Ryan Kelley
The US Botanic Gardens was wonderful. They have several different zones in the green houses, and open air parks outside. It's also free, so it's a great place to take kids. They even have a Kids Garden area. The center section has huge palm trees, and a catwalk you can walk on to get a birds eye view. It's really great. They have a Mediterranean climate Garden... With herbs and plants (like olive trees), that help shape the culture of the area. There is a Hawaiian zone, with incredibly dense foliage, and even a zone with medicinal plants, like cinnamon and foxglove. There are a surprising number of food-producing plans, like coconuts, olive trees, papaya, and bananas trees! They also had a scavenger hunt for kids... That my kids didn't see until after they were done for the day. The outdoor Rose garden wasn't in bloom... But it looks impressive already.
The building doesn't have a place to eat, or buy food, but Bartholdi Park is right across the street, and has tables and chairs for a picnic.
A wonderful trip, and I will totally be going back.
Isaac Riggins
It was a great experience to wander through the different rooms in this garden, each simulating a wildly different biome and containing a vast collection of beautiful and unique plants.
Chelsey Bryce
Outdoor trails are open! It’s beautiful! I walked through as part of my fitness walk! Plan to come back with my mother soon!
Jarred Mattingly
Beautiful gardens ...and atrium! An area for children to learn gardening makes this very kid-friendly. Lots of differential areas based on climate can lead to learning new things regarding exotic type plants. Have fun!
Patty Henson
We had a great time! The collection of plants was amazing! They already had up Christmas decorations and models of the local monuments were featured. It was great!
Angela Masciale
The National Mall and musuems can be chaotic with loud children, huge tour groups, and overall crowded areas.
The botanical garden was such a peaceful getaway from the hubbub. Beautiful flowers and plants! And nice and warm!
Erich Meier
Great place to come relax as an adult or bring kids to experience botany from various climates. The exhibits are truly gorgeous and the access to 2 air conditioned rooms to relax in are amazing on a hot day! I really liked the Golden Shrimp Plants.
Miri Friedman
Gorgeous place! The garden is divided into different geographic regions of the world, and there are some beautiful plants and trees here.
Ana Dolny
This is a very beautiful garden with a wide variety in types of plants from different climates such as a tropical and desert. Also, there are paper brochures in many different languages available to tourists that speak and read different languages other than English so information is more accessible regarding the botanical garden.
Mike Figueroa
A very unique, diverse collection of flowers and plants from across the world all in one place for you to enjoy. It's also FREE!
Scott Fitz
Great place to visit. We brought lunch with us and sat outside at one of the tables to eat at.
Austin Graff
The Botanic Garden won't be the biggest garden you go to, but it may be the best FREE garden you go to. It's located right by the US Capitol and a great break from your standard Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall. It's FREE and will take you through the tropics to the dessert to the jungle while they give you picture perfect views of blue water pools and exotic trees and shrubs. A huge plus is it's a great peaceful place for nursing mothers and the men's restroom has a diaper changing table!
Ana Claudia Garcia
Beautiful place! It's worth the visit if you have some spare time, but wouldn't be in my top 3 list of places to visit in Washington DC.
Katie O'Neill
The place was beautiful. I love how they have the areas sectioned off. Every inch of this was utilized and beautiful.
Gonzalo Vidal
This was such a beautifull place. I strongly suggest to visit the conservatory. It has a playground and lots of activities.
Jaye Aster Broder
Free. Family friendly. Date friendly. Flora beyond imagination (orchids to cacti to cacao plants). Fantastic division of plants by areas from deserts to the tropics. Interactive plants to smell, steps to climb, and tree trunk bridges to cross. There are also a few pairings. The bathrooms even have orchids by the sinks. You can spend an hour here.
Christina & Jason
This location is magic. There's a lot of information to read. So take your time. Also bring water. Lots of walking! There are bathrooms at this location as well. Keep in mind they do have set ours and are not open 24/7.
BradJill
The United States Botanic Garden is a very good attraction for families or those looking for something other than museums and monuments during their time in DC.
We visited in December and enjoyed our time here. This is the wrong time of the year for optimal visits to the outdoor garden areas however, the conservatory is temperature controlled, making for a nice experience.
Within the Conservatory there is a fair collection of desert plants, orchids, medicinal plants as well as a neat section on Hawaii to name a few things you can see here. Most interesting was probably the multi-floor jungle room, which affords tree level views from the other levels. This seemed rather unique for botantic garden visits in this part of the world.
Overall, you can find more comprehensive and impressive botanic gardens in other destinations around the world but the US Botanic Garden in DC is pretty good (and free). In the end, we felt it was a nice option if you are looking for something else after seeing a few of the area Smithsonian Museums.
Jennifer Jerchau
A quick stop on our visit of DC -- great spot to warm up from the winter elements! The Christmas displays were beautiful. The stop was empty during weekdays -- took less than 2 hours to tour.
Roel Feys
The Conservatory, National Garden, and Bartholdi Park are a nice place to spend a few hours with the family. If you have little ones, the Children's Garden (inside the Conservatory) is not to be missed! Other highlights are the orchid exhibition, the rainforest, and the garden court.
Bryon Taylor
It's decent. It's not as large as some of the botanic gardens from other states. It's got some good plants in it, although some of the plants that were in there were fairly common house plants. There were quite a few rare plants though that have been obviously tended to quite well and grown for quite a while as well.
Short and Sweet
A must if visiting the area!🙌🏼💯💚🎋🍀🌷💐🌸🌻 Has a great variety of plants and is very informative. I’ved lived 3 yrs in DC now and regret not coming soon but happy I did😁👍🏼. Would highly recommend. …
Matthew Robinson
I enjoyed the spaciousness and diverse plant-life at the Botanic Gardens. It's beautiful and serene and simple, hosting many wonderful events each year. It's important that places like the Botanic Gardens can maintain the levels of excellence in quality resources and education and apply key changes in technology and agriculture.
Mr Codez
Fun place and kid friendly. Lots of opportunities to sit and relax indoors or outside with beautiful plants.

I loved it. Great for all ages, lots to see, the scavenger hunt was fun to do together, and even though it was busier than normal it was still a great time, and I learned a lot and got to see many plants I'd never seen in person before
Alex de los Reyes
Beautifully maintained gardens with a lot of different types of plants and climates. The botanic gardens has both indoor and outdoor Gardens to tour. There's no cost to enter. Many very beautiful specimens to look at and a very tranquil and serene place to just relax as well.
Steffanie Brown
The Gardens are beautiful! Its set up where you walk through different sections themed for different parts of the world. There is so much to see here and its all free! Incredible.
Camila Botero
The vibe is so romantic there 🥰 really beautiful place with a great variety of plants :) …
Thaddaeus Cox
Great place to escape a cold or rainy DC day! Walk around and enjoy the variety or even grab a seat at benches and just soak in the beauty. The humidity and floral smells brought me back to Florida living!
Ree A
it was nice to find this oasis during one of our afternoon walks. Nice places to sit and enjoy the plants and trees. When We went there ,the outdoor patio was only the area that is available to visit but it was great experience near the congress center.
Gary Seybold
A DC standard for anyone visiting or just wanting to see beautiful plants. We’ve been numerous times and have always come away with seeing something new and different. The outdoor gardens are not to be missed as you can stroll through, sit and enjoy and stop to take pictures! Try to do both if you can. You will be glad you did!
Jacob Herrel
The first botanical garden ever made in North America was my not means a disappointment! There were plenty of rooms each with a certain theme. Some of these include a Mediterranean room where plants in the Mediterranean climate were grown. There was an orchid room which had all of the orchid plants on display. A medicinal room which had plants that can be used as medicine on display. There's a lot to see and a lot for everyone to appreciate. Think of this place as a zoo but instead of animals it's plants. So take your family and friends who know nothing about plants as long as you're able to be respectful to those like me who are can't be any more nerdy and passionate about plants! 😁
Dan H
Wonderful place to visit anytime of the year. Everything is always blooming and beautiful inside. It features a wide variety or plants "some extremely rare" from all over the world. Great relaxing place to visit and enjoy nature.
Stephen Brown
The expected level of sophistication and variety for a botanical garden in Washington. Thought it would be larger though. One section contains large posters of beautiful gardens that at first glance seem to be a map of other sections to be explored, but upon closer read the posters invite you to affiliated botanical gardens across the US, which was a bit deflating. Otherwise, a very beautiful if short visit through a well maintained collection of botany. Even saw a cool collection of carnivorous plants including the Venus flytrap. And of course, you can't beat free admission.
Paul Martin
Don't miss the upstairs view in the tropical area.
Hydroponic vegetables near the restrooms.
Audio tour available via cell phone/web.
Hawkeye Johnson
Simply beautiful. So many things to learn about and it's so warm so if you visit in fall or winter it will be warm inside. If you visit in the summer it will feel just as muggy as outside. But again incredibly beautiful. Be careful of weekends but weekdays are amazing.
Hunter G
One of, if not the most educational and enjoyable botanical gardens I have ever frequented. Upon entry into each climatic zone one is transported to all corners (and interior) of America.
Enjoyable for an afternoon stroll with friends, a first date, botany aficionados or newcomers to America who wish to the variety of America in one expansive greenhouse.
One can easily spend half a day here reading and learning the intimate details on each flora, but for those on a tight time schedule forty-five minutes to an hour should suffice.
Gopal Samant
It was a good walk through the huge green house botanical gardens in DC. There are multiple sections with different varieties of folliage, terrain and ecosystems. It is very well maintained and informative about all the Flora species that they have on display. It is a one time visit. Although it's great that it has free admission.
Waverly Jung
They changed out the flowers in the big main room when you first walk in. It smells so good everywhere you go despite the amount of tourists traveling inside. There's a lot of foot traffic be warned if you try to take photos like me and my friend were, but they turned out beautiful. There were also artists painting while sitting at benches inside, so that was neat to see. Just be patient as you walk through and admire the different plants. 💖
Buddy Newell
This is a small park, but really cool. It is very close to the Capitol and creates a very stunning image in the evening as the sun begins to set in the West. There are plenty of cafe style tables and benches in the park, and there are some well-placed trees that offer pretty good shade. The information sign gives the history of the fountain, which is definitely worth a read. The garden area is planted with pumpkins, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and other seasonal vegetables. There is at least one fruit-bearing tree in the park as well, the pomegranate. While this park is definitely not a prime mover in the sites to see in DC, it is definitely a great place to stop, reflect and catch your breath!
Ian Pilgreen
Absolutely gorgeous place. My fianceé and I came to take some engagement photos and found the Jungle room to be magical! Staff could have been friendlier, but since we saw little of them, it was not too much of an issue.
PA Permana
Beautiful experience, especially for free. Thank you to those who made/make this happen.
Mike MC
The Botanic gardens is a great place to learn about plants and ecology from around the world. Lots of photo opportunities with lots of flowers. If you are lucky you might spot a butterfly or two! A couple of hours to have a look round
Colleen Jeno
I can't believe I waited so long to go here. It's a beautiful experience and the volunteers are helpful and kind. I wish I was there on a quiet day when I could have brought a book to sit on a bench and read. They also do yoga on Saturdays!
Rachel Barker
Free! Has many amazing spaces inside and out. Great activity in downtown DC.
Jessie E
Not the best activity with kids. Had some really beautiful plants, flowers, rooms, and information, but would have enjoyed better without kids. They were a little too energetic for this type of place.
Kaitlyn Conly
It truly is an amazing place to understand the environmental conditions in which certain plants live in. You have the opportunity to experience different biomes and witness plants thriving in such conditions. In addition to the experience, you are able to view plants from all over the world. For example: China, Mexico, Central America, and many other places. It is family-friendly and all ages will be able to enjoy it.
Javiera Uribe
Beautiful!!!! But too hot inside! But it's understandable bcuz there are tropical plants
Zach Klagge
A wonderful botanical garden, truly spectacular. Where else can you go from seeing plants from the tropics to cacti of the American southwest, to Hawaii, all within a few meters? A wonderful place to spend a few hours. The medical plants section is a particularly interesting combination of medical and botanical history that I highly recommend.
Stop by if you have a few hours!
Lexy McCauley
Beautiful free place to go with both outdoor greenery and indoor exhibits. It’s air conditioned with bathrooms and water fountains, too. Would definitely recommend to go with friends/family! They also have employees stationed throughout to tel you about some of the plants.
Linda Bishop
Wonderful display of trees and plants. DC Mall sculptures made out of plants! Warm inside.
Benjamin Ramirez
The botanical gardens were amazing and well cared for. It is small and a relatively quick visit however the care and effort that goes into this garden really shows. I definetly recommend a visit.
Charlie Charlton
Interesting botanical gardens. I didn’t get a chance to go all around it but what I saw was impressive. we’ll worth a quick visit. Great displays, helpful staff good facilities.
Dewei Chen
Beautiful place and well maintained, best for all age.
Sharon
While visiting the area, it was nice to find this oasis during one of our morning walks. Nice places to sit and enjoy the plants and trees.
Lorraine Luna
A quiet beautiful place to sit and walk. Staff are friendly. Bathrooms are at the back of the greenhouse. There is a place to fill your water bottle. I was inspired by the dry climate plant display & the pollinators.
Gabriel Machen
The most amazing Christmas trains exhibit at the botanical gardens. Our kids loved to see the incredible sculptures made out of plant materials.
Dustin Floyd
Finally got a chance to stop here on our most recent visit to DC, and it was totally worthwhile. Probably one of the most underrated free things to do on the Mall, and it's right next door to the Capitol. We wished we could have spent more time exploring the outdoor gardens, but it was 105 degrees when we visited, so we mostly stuck inside. (Even the desert biome was more pleasant than being outside that day. Ugh.)
Angie Marie
I wasn't planning on doing anything touristy during my last trip to DC, but I'm so glad I came by! I can't believe this place is free. The guy talking about carnivorous plants had AMAZING facts to share and even put them under a microscope. On a hot day it does get hot and humid since it's literally a greenhouse, but there are plenty of benches to rest on.
byron subero
The inside is still closed (as of now) but the outside is open. Nice to walk around and see the plants and flowers.
Amol Betgeri
Too much to see in this place. Neatly maintained.
Amanda Branham
Awesome holiday exhibit
Quan Le
It was almost unable to ask for more from this beautiful and fantastic botanical garden, especially when considering the free entrance. It is another must-go spot in D.C. that no one could resist. There were so many kinds of plants from all over the world in various sections, from Desert, Tropical, to Rare & Endanger, to name a few. I even found a cocoa tree or two. Also, it has a model version of the National Mall in it. Small but detailed. This place is also an excellent educative spot that children could study about biology and natural environment. Because of free entrance for everyone, it was pretty crowded all the time. It is entirely worth a visit in few hours to discover and learn for.
Allyson Gailey
Love, love, love this place! I always make sure to stop here whenever I'm in D.C. It is so wonderful and being able to view so many species of flora is amazing. The building is beautiful and I love that you are able to walk along a platform on the second story. As someone who loves the foliage in spring and summer, it's a pleasure to visit here in the fall and winter. I do wish there was some sort of gift shop, though.
Olivia Gleason (Olive)
Absolutely wonderful for photography! It is an amazing atmosphere!
Kristen Peerman
The botanical garden has a wonderful display if many varieties of plants and flowers they also have a very nice holiday display. Definitely worth visiting if you are in DC. The price is also hard to beat Free.
Sveta N-Kim
A heaven for those who love and appreciate plants. We really enjoyed it. Great for kids, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth going if you are into plants.
Garrett Yu
This is a must visit if you're in DC! I've been to DC many many times and I never knew this garden was here! Incredibly fascinating and beautiful as it has plants from all around the world! You may want to bring tissues and claritin though 😂 …
Elena Kamis
I. Love. This. Place.
I went three different times this past summer and it never gets old. There’s always something new in bloom that wasn’t before and the outdoor area and yoga is so cool.
Henry Maurice Larweh
The gardens were beautiful and very calming. A usually quiet area with gorgeous plants.
C. Eric Scott
This is one of Washington DC's real gems! The variety of plant life in here is more than enough satisfy anyone with a green thumb but will also make you envious. In addition to regular variety of plants, they have ever changing exhibits on display throughout the year. We were lucky enough to catch the orchid show during it's final weekend and it did not disappoint! This is a great place to come and take a break from the museums when you're in downtown DC.
Clara Bediako
The plants were lovely. We enjoyed the represented different areas of the country they had as well as the educational section with the video to watch.
We will come back to enjoy the outdoor area when it's not so hot outside. Just love that the gardens are free.
Tri Vo
Really beautiful. Loved it. Lots of cool infos.
Cynthia Agard
Exquisite Christmas garden exhibit of plants and building models from all around the United States. Made of nature materials and very detailed. A wonderland of beauty.
Connor Hagerty
Very quick / walkable. If you like plants it's worth the trip. Make sure you check out the garden's fountain across the street too, it has tons of cool outdoor plants / garden plants, and the view of the capital is really pretty
jeremy lippman
Lovely place to view and learn about all types of plants, their habitats, and their history
John Baker
Great institution under the Smithsonian umbrella which also means it’s free. They have an outdoor kids garden in the middle of the conservatory so fun for kids and adults. It’s especially fun around the holidays when the trains exhibit comes!
Amanda Morris-Hartough
We went to the botanic gardens to see the corpse flower. The whole place is stunning! It's quiet, relaxing and the guides are incredibly knowledgeable about the plants. They usually have really interesting tours as well!
Sylvia P
I am a plant lover, so I always find thus beautiful collection relaxing. Sitting in the tropical forest and listening to water running is great. As a grandparent I also live the kid's space.
Dawn Bateman
Always stop by. I'd love to have an event here!! Very pretty and educational!
Gorgeous greenhouse!!
ayasera _
Very nice place for adults and children, lots of different plants and flowers unfortunately when I went lots of sections we're closed but still nice place
Melissa Gagermeier
I absolutely love the botanic gardens and try to stop by every time I'm in the city.
There's three parts to the gardens, the interior building which has a bunch of different 'zones' showcasing different types of plants (such as arid/desert, Hawaiian, rainforest, etc), the outside surrounding gardens which include various layouts, and across the street there is a small little park with an incredible fountain (I believe the first gaslit fountain in DC), which they change yearly to show the most popular garden/landscaping trends.
The building houses a great collection of all different types of plants, which they occasionally swap around as the season progresses. I always see tons of children here having a blast looking at all the flowers and climbing the rainforest catwalk.
The surrounding gardens are actually my favorite part though, you wouldn't think you could find such a quite, restful place right in central DC (the museum is located on the southeast corner of the mall, between the Capitol building and the national museum of the American Indian). There is a little pavilion next to a stream which is the perfect location for lunch, personally I skip the tourist traps, grab a $5-7 lunch from the food trucks always lining the streets, and enjoy my lunch in the gardens. It's bliss.)
MBC
Beautiful Garden, very nice staff. Be warned though when visiting, as the indoor garden is climate controlled and is very hot and humid inside. Fortunately the area prior to entering has A/C and is a helpful break when exiting or entering.
Tanium T
It's beautiful, as always. I don't know that the Christmas display was as impressive as I thought it would be, but it's a fun place to go to.
Carla Minatel
I love botanical gardens! This one is really tiny, but beautiful! In one hour you can do the inside visit and there is an ouside garden as well! A lot of chairs and benches under the trees, nice space to relax and chill!
Tasha Fuller
Been wanting to go for years and it was a beautiful experience. Entertaining and Educational.
Anatoli MH
This is truly a beautiful botanic garden. There is a big selection of different plant types from different regions, and I was surprised to even find an outside playground inside the building tract. I was also happy to find catalogues in different languages since I was showing my family, that came to visit from Germany, around. There also is an art exhibition, that I really appreciated, being an art major.
Ziggy DaMoe
I love the United States Botanical Garden. Everything is labeled so you can see what everything is, but then it's hours later and you learned a pile of plant information. Everyone should check it out. It seemed to be easy to park fairly close. You can just go for yourself!

Vinamra Mishra
Amazing to actually experience various types of vegetation like temperate, tropical etc and also the paleolithic era atmosphere at this wonderful place. Just beside the Capitol Hill, this is a must go for everyone and you don't need to be an Botany expert to enjoy this.
Adrian Fabian
This was a very beautiful experience seeing so many species of plants in one place. It was humid in some areas but it was all part of the experience.
I highly recommend it to those who have never been.
Jia Wei Wang
Very interesting exhibit, even if you don’t have a green thumb. The efficient layout and cleanliness allows for a casual stroll while admiring the wide assortment of plants.
Yakaira J. A. Ubiera
beautiful worthy of buying a coffee and spending hours listening to the environment.
Jennifer Morgan
I’d give it ten stars if I could. Beautiful!!!!!! Some of the exhibits were closed because it was too early in the season but there were plenty wonderful plants and flowers to admire.
Mishkat Khetran
Thing that I like most about botanic gardens are their serenity. No matter, whatever the crowd is, they will always be peaceful and quiet but so much like a library. They feel therapeutic and healthy. This one is free and full of botanic species ,in other words full of knowledge. A great place to bring your kids and teach them about natural life. It's not the biggest but well designed and nicely managed. Mark it in your list when visiting DC.
Jason K
Gorgeous gardens. There's a rose garden in the middle and don't forget the greenhouse in the back. Many types of rare plants and trees. Several different biospheres in the greenhouse from desert to damp and humid rainforest. There's even a deadly plant section!
Brian Ford
Tranquil place to walk through. Beautiful flowers & all kinds of plants. The orchid room is fun. Definitely give it a go if you are visiting the museums nearby.
Carlos Retana
It was a lovely place to visit and see all the plants and flowers, would really recommend coming during the spring or summer as some areas are closed during the winter.
S M
Such a great place to visit! We went with our little boys one evening on a whim and it was such a pleasant experience. The location right by the Capitol is so striking (even more so around sunset). The plants/exhibits are amazing and there is a train room that the kids love.
Janet's
Great place to visit. Loved how iconic buildings are made totally out of plant materials. The trains outside with more buildings were so nice and the children loved it.
Jennifer Arnold
So glad they're open for visitors again. I missed it during the pandemic. As always, my favorite place to be
hpau yam
Varieties of different plants in one place, section by section and plants are well taken care off. Very educational. Great place for kids they can see and learn new plants big and small.
Rick Loe
We really enjoyed the diversity of plants at the garden. The music and atmosphere was so relaxing, and the staff was very friendly. It was an amazing experience. The highlight for us was to sit on a bench, look at the plants and flowers and listen to the fountains and music.
Anastasia Dispatch
Amazing huge botanical garden! Must visit if you’re in DC. Even if you’re not a fan of plants, the atmosphere and the colors will make you stop and enjoy the beautiful moment. It is also free admission for everyone.
Karina Olarte
One of the botanical gardens! Very well organized and they have an amazing variety of plants and flowers! Loved it! You should definitely go
Shelby Watson
I was fortunate enough to have worked just a 15-20 min walk away from this beautiful place. I would often go during lunch break during the week—way less crowded. It never got old, ever. Such a great escape from the busy hustle and bustle of the city.
M Hos
A nice experience, good for a short stop and to cool down from the summer heat. They should have a small cafeteria or at the least a vending machine.
Some interesting plants, worth checking out.
Brian Jackson
Awesome place. It's totally free and no security to get it, so I was able to bring in my suitcase. They have a surprising number of different environments you can walk through and nearly every plant it labeled. It's a super neat garden and definitely worth the 20-30 minutes it'll take out of your visit to the national mall!
Marsha
My first time here in all my DC area days. Wonderfully delightful and educational. Staff super helpful. Go on off times so you want have to deal with tourist crowds.
Sara Wyatt
A must-visit for any plant-lover! I was in heaven! There are so many things to see! It's both stimulating and relaxing simultaneously. I would live in the conservatory if I could.
Hector The Director
Beautiful place! Parking is a little tricky at times especially during the weekend but hey, it's DC. Great place to come during the winter especially since it's pretty hot inside 😊 …
Mayesha Sahir Mim
A humid walk for a chance to learn some botany and see amazing plants. You'll learn something even in the toilet 😂 …
Shane Lewis
I love the botanic garden and the exhibits. It doesn’t take long to see everything, but you can also take your time and soak it in. Definitely worth visiting.
Diana Ovesov
I loved it! Amazing new things to see and it warms you up during a cold winter day! For a no enter fee it's really incredible option to visit.
Jose Moncayo (Joey)
Beautiful atrium and various exotic plant life and trees from many countries. It's free. Outside limited parking on weekdays. Sundays street parking is free. No meters.
Hailey Bentivegna
Lots of plants, and in the first room, there are buildings that are in DC that are made in miniature, scale form made from plants. The photo I took is their recreation of the Botanical Garden
tom siko
Breath takingly gorgeous. The smell of this museum alone is amazing. I loved how they broke up each room into certain parts of the world. I loved each exhibit.
Hoon Kim
It is good place to visit and take relaxing. Not very attractive place but it is worth to visit to take break and feeling the nature in the city. It you are short time visitor, you can skip this but if you are visit DC for few day, it is worth to try
Max M
The Botanical Garden in D.C. is hands down the best garden facility I have ever witnessed. It's mesmerisingly beautiful, immaculately landscaped, flourishing with both exotic and native plants. The garden itself has an outdoor portion, and an inner atrium with connected rooms to house distinct plant fauna. Me and my girlfriend went during the winter, so the outdoor area wasn't much to look at but once you stepped inside you are presented with massive glowing vibrant hues of color sight and sound. Of all the places I visited in D.C. this was my favorite spot. Complete with cactuses, succulents, staghorn ferns, a whole orchid room, banana, cocoa plants and (hidden) dinosuars. I would live there if I could. 10/10 I would travel across the nation to visit this greenhouse once again.
The Wildthings
Beautiful and clean even the bathrooms today were clean. It was little crowded and train display is not as big as we expected but still worth a visit
Lora Walburn
Everything is gorgeous and well taken care of. It was a bit crowded but worth it!
Rebekah Morris
We love coming here. Whenever we have guests in town the gardens are always on the list of places we go. It’s beautiful and relaxing. And a good midway point after doing the Capital building and the Library of Congress on your way to other things in the Mall.
Robbie Ward
A must-see for people in DC who love plants. You’ll leave the garden feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and amazed at the plant diversity represented. Be sure to also visit the outside gardens.
JB
Goregous botanical garden, they have different assortments of plants from all over the globe, each section has different climent needs so the humidity changes from section to section. The only down side is it's kind of a fast walk through.
Ronneise Munoz
The holiday display is absolutely magical! Will definitely be back in the spring when all the flowers are ready to bloom outside.
Valeria Lombo
Such a lovely place! They have different climate gardens, giant trees and beautiful plants. Also they offer gardening workshops for kids!
Jimmy Ching
Always amazing place see how wonderful variety of flowers and plants sooo beautiful, enjoy the frangrance along with the information of the types of botanicals learn what coffee, cacao and sooo much more definitely must see.

Skip Leezer
Every time I visit, I'm always amazed by the flowers, plants and amazing building areas. If you are on the National Mal, this should be a must visit. Usually lines aren't very long to get in either.
David Hilgendorf
Great place to visit when it's cold outside. Lots of interesting plants and it doesn't take long to walk the whole building. There are also outside gardens for summertime. Worth visiting.
Nhung Nguyen
It's small and I didn't see much rare plants. The plus sides are that the staff was very fun to talk with.
B Crafty
A beautiful place with every plant you could imagine! The tree top walk area is very cool too. One of my favorite places in DC. It’s free to the public and fairly stroller and kid friendly. Just a short walk from the Capitol and is nice in the summer because of the ac.
Luke O.
A pleasant hour spent in the conservatory. It's a nice break from the heavier museums. You can definitely engage to learn a lot here, but it is just as nice to wander.
Sandra O'Connor
Love to visit it, would be great if they have a cafeteria inside the premises with a look of the gardens, maybe also a place to sit to study, it will make a great place for a peaceful morning.
Kathryn Wheeler
A beautiful oasis that is home to plant species found in environments around the world. Always worth a visit to appreciate the incredible biodiversity of our planet.
Parker Peterson
Beautiful gardens inside and out! Will be returning here soon! Takes about 45min-hour to go through the entire place.
Joshua A
The Botanical Garden is positively beautiful and a great way to get warm when it’s cold outside! The only down side was the South and Children’s gardens were closed for season.
NuttinBut Suga
Very calming. It makes you forget the death cold weather outside. I just wish they would finally fix the elevator so the elderly and disabled can access the second level.
Himanshu Babaria
Very nice place to learn about the diverse plants from around the world. They have a really nice chamber for tropical plants. My personal favorite was seeing the coffee and chocolate plant in person. Now I know how where my Mocha comes from :)
CynicallySweet7
So cool! If you're into plants this place is awesome. If you're not it's still awesome but you'll probably enjoy it less than I did
Mary Dolan
The gardens at this time of the year are incredible. Trains for the young and mature too! The collection of national monuments and stately houses is a site to see. They are made from all natural items.
David Yates
Great place to pop into. Always a new and very well done exhibit to see. Very helpful staff.
Matt Thompson
This is the garden for people without a green thumb. Some of the most interesting plants I have ever seen. A must see for anyone, even if you think you'll be bored. Trust me, it's not just for girls.
Kyle Andrews
Went in the winter. Some very cool sights and very large plants. They have a nice section for children.
James Wood
One of my all time Favorite places! I enjoy myself every time I go. It was stunning with all of the holiday decorations and the concert brought it over the top.
Jeff Ludwig
Always a great exhibit at the holidays. The trains along with the building and monuments made from all natural plant parts is fascinating to see.
Norman Garner
Holiday exhibit is particularly fun this year with an elaborate train display outside and models of DC landmarks constricted of plant materials.
Alex Caffri
They're renovating the outdoor garden to eliminate invasive plants right now (1/23) but the inside garden is amazing. So many diverse biomes.
Paul Benda
Love going during Christmastime and seeing the model train exhibit. Try to go during off times as the lines can get long. In the standard display area make sure you get the "passport" that kids can stamp at different exhibits. My daughter really enjoyed finding the stations and stamping her card.
April
Beautiful Holiday Displays!! Beautiful trees and unique monument pieces!! Even a train exhibit!! Very Cool!!
Katie (CaptainMalsGal)
Had a fun visit here and learned a lot. It's a great break from the business of the mall and I really enjoyed all the informational placards along with the beauty of all the plants.
Laura Spriggs Gray
Seasons Greenings is a magical holiday experience for the whole family with miniature buildings, beautiful seasonal decorations and model trains.
Pakeezha
Love love love this place! It’s so relaxing to walk around on any day! They have the indoor green house which is great if the weather goes bad! I couldn’t think of any negative thing about this trip here.
Ella Kukieva
Incredible place . Reminded me of Longwood Gardens in Kenneth Square which is in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; longwood gardens has fountains also but admission isn’t free unlike its here
Ryan Fitzgerald
This botanic garden has a little bit of something for everyone. The blend of outdoor and indoor exhibits is great, and the vibrant and varied plants are wonderful to look at. Seasonal events and exhibits add to the fun. The best part is that it was all free!
daren nenortas
The Botanic Gardens in DC is a must visit. There are multiple environments represented throughout the facility including a great children's garden and activity center.

Maricela Chavez Ruiz
Great place to bring children! Access parking space for handicap, individuals with out disabilities will have to do a little walking. Amenities available
Victoria
A lot of tropical plants and flowers. Pretty interesting collection. A little to much smell of chlorine. But strongly recommend to visit. Good for kids.
Ashis Roy
Amazing indoor family time out. It is also a great place for plant lovers and botanist with a huge collection and artificial environment necessary for the plants.
David Brenton
Beautiful gardens with lots of different sections. Can definitely get a bit crowded during the summer and especially on the weekends with the tourists but definitely worth a visit.
Lisa
The models of the various important federal buildings in DC made from plants were terrific. The trains on the west side of the building were also a nice holiday treat.
Eric Salas
The United States Botanic Garden (USBG) is a living plant museum and considered as the oldest botanic garden in North America. Love this! See photos of all the plant species I took!
tamara manning
There were so many vibrant fragrances , amazing experience
Alexis F.
Free, beautiful flowers, all labeled so you can look them up. A few benches but not a ton, overall a tiny gem of a greenhouse right next to the Capitol.
Michael Garcia
Great place to visit. If you are a photographer great setting for models and don't forget to use the outside side garden for great background. And while you are there youll learn about plants across America and from around the World
Anna
Great activity on a chilly day.
Jake Steel
Went to see the Titan Arum(Corpse flower) today and I couldn't be happier. The staff helped the line move quickly and the flower was beautiful. This was a bucket list thing to see! Also toured the rest of the plantings. All beautiful!
Dennis
A truly magnificent place. Although many of the flowers were not in bloom, one could imagine what the arrangement would look like had they been.
Emily Belcher
Beautiful gardens. Not a great management of visitors, can be obstructions and cramped. Flowers are fab though and displays well kept.
A Zafer
The mist that is blown in the plants is extremely refreshing. You can wash your face and hands because the water is cold and tastes good.
Caryn Sommersdorf
Wish I could have only spent more time there. Beautiful place to see, so many different plants and trees. A must see if you will be in the Washington DC area.
Cameron Embree
Great spot to get warm on a cool day! Lots of beautiful plant life to see from many regions of the world. Probably takes 15 mins to go through if you go fast but take your time and really enjoy all the different flowers!
