Reviews of USF Botanical Gardens
Well kept secret on campus. The very friendly staff works hard here to maintain the property and variety of plants. The space has something for anyone and everyone including orchids, roses, butterfly garden, orchard, and a reflection pond. The garden can be explored within an hour but I recommend staying longer to sit down and enjoy nature in the middle of the city.
I hear you can also take a class here or if you are USF faculty you could teach a class in this space!
Great walking paths. Loved seeing butterflies everywhere. Staff is nice and extremely helpful with information on all of the plants, trees etc...
It's a little hidden surprise on USF main campus!
A cute little garden that’s perfect for a casual walk or picnic! I loved the meditation garden with the wooden bridge and bamboos. But the overall walk for me took about 20 minutes max, I wish the garden would be more organized with more variety
If you want to know what grows in Florida and guess at what it is, this is the place to go. Must of the stuff they have is similar to my garden at home just bigger. The gardens aren't as professional looking as other universities I've seen and there was nothing exotic. They did have a nice orchid display.
Having got there with only 45 minutes to tour the gardens, we still had a delightful visit. David Moore, the "in charge" guy implored us to go back to check out the African Tulip tree that was in bloom despite the gardens were closed. How thoughtful and, yes the tree is INCREDIBLE! David was so kind and knowledgeable. Well worth the visit!
I guess I expected more. This is a comparatively small garden with a shop. The best attraction was a niche with orchids. Wear good walking shoes.
Editing my review as they are now closed every Sunday. Weekends are when a great many of us can get out to a garden. Otherwise, I still love this garden but can't give 5 stars to a garden only accessible one day out of the weekend. - That said, my original review below.
A great place for plant geeks and anyone looking for a break in the middle of a rather hectic area. Cost is five dollars. Parking is in the garden, dirt lot. A main limestone path goes around all the areas that include a butterfly area, A shade garden, aroids, medicinal, etc. Orchids are in the Shade Garden and a greenhouse full of them are picked over by a group of orchid lovers and set out for you to see the most impressive bloomers at any point in time. There is a small plant shop you can buy from. There are simple restrooms, and the only food or drink is a drink machine. You can bring in your own food as there are a good many tables for you to sit at and enjoy a picnic. A lawn or two also, if you would like to bring a blanket. A good many tropical plants, something is always blooming. There is a small staff, and the rest is done by volunteers so expect a bump or two in the road and don't be shocked by a weed. Otherwise, this is a spot I visit frequently. For 5 bucks, you can't beat the range of plants you will see. Honey produced by bees at the garden is available too. (If you just want to shop the plant shop there is no fee to enter) You pay at the small building / plant shop where you park. I tend to spend 1 to 2 hours here, but I am a plant geek. Don't miss the cactus and succulent area.
great plant selections in the shop that are reasonably priced (…but $20 hoyas!!!😭) + monthly events! you get a discount on admission on a lot of events if you’re a USF student, too. …
Beautiful gardens by the university with a lakeside view and a shop to take plants home if you desire. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Just stunning and beautiful and peaceful love this place is so calm and the flowers in the tree and is smell earthly which is beautiful.
I love coming here! I've been here about 4 times now and every time I see a new type of wildlife. The plants are so beautiful and there are so many butterflies in the bitterly garden!
Lovely and peaceful place to meander. This particular weekend was the Plant Sale which brought a variety of plant vendors from tropicals to succulents and orchids.
I expected something complete different. There's barely any parking and whatever is there is sandy. The garden is old, unkempt, and the walking paths are lacking or missing. The bromeliads at the entry way were okay. I would not recommend this garden. Out of 10 botanical gardens I've been to, this fall at the bottom of my list. They need some big donors to revitalize this place.
Well maintained gardens. Better than I expected. Some areas are quiet for meditation. Other areas are too noisy since it's close to traffic.
Time well spend, I share with my wife. Nice place to go, to enjoy with family.
For a student-run, self-sustaining garden in the middle of Tampa, this place was so nice! Only $1 for students and $5 for non-students, and you get in all day long. They have numerous picnic tables and benches to sit at and a stocked plant shop with lots of plants for sale. Just remember to take water, as it gets very warm in the summer time out in the sun.
$1 for USF student and staffs
$10 for regular adult.
Beautiful and well-maintain garden.
The whole walk takes 30 minutes
They have a beautiful and impressive selection of Orchids, which is a hidden germ, it took me 2 rounds to find the Orchids display.
100% recommendation
Big event plants sale 4 times a year are a must attend for me.
This student plant sale was disappointing, plants small, not many, and over all place was unkempt student area. The gardens never fell to delight and offer new blooming plant discovery each season. I found 3 new must have fall blooming. Ferns and tress were so beautiful.
Good plant ID signs through out.
Absolutely beautiful! We arrived late, just before closing on a Sunday and were welcomed in to explore by USF students. We had the place all to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Will definitely visit again!
Very beautiful, a little nook hidden in plain sight. I've driven by so many times and had no idea it was there. Great for families. My kids loved the butterfly garden. Everything was very relaxing, pleasant and places to sit and enjoy the view.
Our community is lucky to have this oasis and garden shop, run by friendly, knowledgeable staff and graced with a resident feline or two. The "rooms" that display orchids and other plant families are excellent for a quiet moment (coffee, writing, meditation) or a school group. Given our hot locale, the garden's cool shade is a gift. Annual membership is low cost as of January 2023.
Wait 1 to 2 weeks after a frost to give staff time to return plants they had to take inside during the cold. Plant experts are interested to hear questions or if you're hunting for a specific plant and offer to alert you if they get it in stock.
The semiannual plant fair is unparalleled and crowded. Bring your wagon and expect to walk a block or two from the off-site parking lot. The atmosphere of so many plant- and pollinator-lovers is vibrant and contagious.
Thank you USF Botanical Garden!
Finally made it to the campus botanical garden, the entrance area could use a sign because I originally picked the wrong road and ended up in the garden (entrance is the right road of the exit sign) , but the garden itself is super pretty, (the orchid area is my favorite) and the staff was SUPER nice!
Nice place to visit! Fairly accessible and open on weekends. Good way to see what the USF students are up to, to learn about horticulture and to contribute back to the university. They allow people to volunteer and help with groundskeeping. Lots of plants to look at and nice shade to take advantage of.
The gardens were beautiful. Some areas need some more attention and more identification on plants. But beauty is all around. It would be nice if they would offer some discount to Moffitt patients. Being so near the hospital it would be good to encourage patients and caregivers to come enjoy the outdoors.
It's affordable, it's pleasant
It's not comparable to other city level botanical gardens but it costs 1/3 those more fancy gardens. So really nothing to complain about
Nice little garden. I liked the walkways and sitting areas. My favorites were the bamboo, succulents and orchids.
The plant sale is a biannual event not to be missed. If you are looking for a unique or special something? This is the best event. Speak directly with the growers and ask master gardeners questions or for advice. Volunteers will help you to your vehicles when you purchase. Do feel free to bring a cart or wagon with you. Most vendors will take a credit or debit card but be cash is appreciated. You can become a member of the Botanical gardens and enjoy advance entry and discounts but certainly not required. All are welcome.
Nice hidden botanical garden in Tampa. Lots of variety, events happen regularly, and a nice nursery to buy plants and plant related merchandise.
It their annual plant festival, beautiful array of plants and flowers, proved very reasonably. Plenty of shaded areas to hide from the noon sun. Unfortunately the event runs only two days for about five hours each day.
A very nice selection of various plants. I personal love the fruits and the flowering trees sections the best.
Well maintained gardens, great to have a short walk around and appreciate the variety of plants
The orchid garden was the highlight of the visit. It's a rather small garden. But the staff was nice.
Absolutely delightful! We went back for two days and got some beautiful flowering plants and trees! The lilies have pride of place in our garden! L
Nice and well cared for. Staff is knowledgeable and have have good array of plants for sale as well!
Beautiful plants. You can tell they take very good care of the different species they house. It's a very relaxing place to take a walk, especially to visit the orchids.
Very relaxing and quiet. Beautiful plants and flowers and friendly staff. Even saw a turtle laying her eggs in the garden which I'm told is pretty common.
A hidden GEM in Tampa! I planned on spending an hour there, yet stayed for 5. Absolutely gorgeous and all for $5! I cannot recommend this place enough!
Very peaceful garden, lots of butterflirs, varietis of plants to buy, loved the Orchid display.
Nice spot for a tranquil break. $4 entry fee. Good plant variety for sale in their store.
Very pretty and I definitely enjoyed, just not much there.
Botanical Garden Spring sale!!! Gorgeous as always. Not as many vendors as in previous years, and not many customers in the afternoon.
A cornucopia of mostly tropical plants. Two tall coniferous trees which reminded me of California Sierra Nevada. The lake has crocodiles which for native Floridians might not he unusual. There are tables and chairs presumably for picnicking and a small greenhouse with two local cats, where you may be able to purchase plants.
Relaxing walk in a garden is the best way to relieve stress. Lots of plants, trees and flowers to peruse. Not very large but that's perfect for a gentle stroll.
$1 for USF students, a nice change of scenery and lovely to walk about in during cooler weather. Wide variety or plants to see and a cute plant shop!
A quaint little botanical gardens. The succulent/cacti area is one of my favorites. A cool collection of orchids and begonias as well!
This is a great place to go for a relaxing walk or a date. There is a sprawling garden with different varieties of plants in different directions. There's a wonderful shade garden, a lake, a faery garden, and more. Very affordable with student discounts and definitely worth a visit. Kim was working and she was very knowledgeable about Florida plants. They also have a great plant store if you want to purchase locally grown Florida plants.
Amazing garden for only $5 it is worth every penny, I feel like there should be a donation tray, this place takes a lot of work to maintain.
Great local place to spend hours wandering the beautiful gardens . There are many spots to sit and relax or eat lunch
The variety was a delight. Not being a local resident, but we'll travelled, it still allowed me to experience some never before seen species.
Went to the plant sale. It was great. They are doing good work educating the public regarding the need to plant native species in my yard to keep the habitat that the bugs and birds rely on to survive. I didn't know bugs here can't eat foreign trees and plants. That when we plow the landscape and put a house we need to put back native shrubs and trees so the birds and butterflies don't starve.
Lovely large plant sale. Draws a pretty big early crowd. Everybody very pleasant and nice.
Could use a little more tender loving care. The atmosphere and flora is very beautiful 😍
Really lovely gardens! Can't wait to come back when more is in bloom.
Awesome place! Plenty to see and learn. Was able to buy some cool additions for my garden. Sell local honey.
Nice oasis from the hectic campus. We didn't tour the gardens but sat in the parking lot, eating our lunch while we had a couple hours to kill while waiting on an appointment at Moffitt. The gardens seem to have a steady flow of visitors. From what we could see the gardens were maintained but it appears the visitors building and gift shop could use a makeover.
Always heard good things about here when I was a student, but seemed to care more about studying and partying than absorbing myself in nature. When I came back to Tampa to visit, I figured I'd spend a bit of time at the places I never made it to and ended up so engulfed in the beauty of this place that it took me all day to see everything! My favorite part is that after exploring the grounds and gawking at the boranical brilliance of this place, I was able to buy my favorites to take home! Now, I have a memento from my university experience that speaks to what I've become: a nature loving story teller.
Awesome place to get exotic and native plants. This is picture is a silk floss tree looking up.
Great place to relax, look for garden ideas or purchase indoor plants.
Quiet, peaceful just wandering enjoying Florida's beautiful natives and wildlife.
Plant show nice verity in the garden..first time there...it was nice but not very decorated or should I say artistry and presentation.
Love it here, I buy most of my plants here. The actual gardens are beautiful also.
Beautiful, peaceful garden. A lovely place to spend the afternoon.
Beautiful natural surroundings, butterflies everywhere!! Love the natural flora and fauna!!
Always love the Fall Festival at USF's Botanical Gardens. Plus I just love walking around the gardens.
Gorgeous blooms and the the people were very friendly and educated about the flowers and plant life
Nice garden with nice variety of plants. No orchids out today though.
Great place for just walking around and buying plants. Included if you have the Garden Membership.
Reciprocating botanical garden. Breath taking. Relaxing. Patty Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe skill were on display. A perfect blend of horticultural, music and the arts. Buy a membership in your state for botanical and arboretums and use them at home and while vacationing.
Lovely place at a nice price. Make sure to visit during different seasons for full effect!
It was so pack t
Quiet and uncrowded. Lots of signs. Beautiful any time of the year.
Such a beautiful relaxing space. LOVED the meditation garden!
Quaint garden, had a small shop at the end that had seeds and some plants. A cute garden for a small walk around with a friend
Not big but lovely
Beautiful garden. We absolutely adored every aspect from the quaint greeting house, vast gardens, adorable cats, and super cheap prices! They could easily get away with $20/person but they reduce it to $5/person, 1$/student. This trip renewed our love for botany and horticulture and we plan on returning as soon as possible. :)
A lovely way to spend a few hours in complete serenity. I can’t wait to go back during growing season however I intend to visit quite often. A real hidden gem!
USF Botanical Gardens are beautiful and relaxing!
Not handicap friendly, too much uneven terrain, dirt roads, not even suitable for wheel chairs
It is beautiful garden and has a plenty of plants.
Like it, especially during the plant festivals. But when there are no events going on there isn’t much to see.
I love this garden. It's beautiful and there's plenty of space for kids to run around and explore. If you come alone it's very peaceful and meditative, which is saying a lot for a place right in Tampa. It would be a great place for a romantic picnic. I would love to know of more events, especially ones centered around children because I want my kids to develope a love for gardening. My only serious complaint here is the price of plants being sold. I feel sorry for any low income person like me who goes in there thinking they might score a cool plant for a good price.
Great selection, low fee to get in, go visit Carnivorous Plants. They have a great selection.
Beautiful place to go if you wanna walk in a natural quite place
Rather small selection of flowers, but not pricey and they're allowing dogs so it's a good place to take a stroll.
Great place to see many tropical plants from all over the world
Very quiet and a good place to unwind amidst the hustle and bustle of the world.
A nice place to take your family to see nature.
Thought it would be better maintained. Lots of plants with no name plates. Some of the ground covers are taking over. However, this is the best and lowest price to get the family pass that gets you into over 300 other gardens in the USA and Canada.
The gardens are so beautiful and peaceful! I love each time I go there.
So beautiful with so much to look at! It was quaint with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Awesome plants and things for sale in the shop. They also have cute stray cats roaming around, all of whom are well fed and fixed.
We were there for the plant sale but the gardens are beautiful. Even in the summer.
Nice little garden on the USF main campus.
What a beautiful diamond in the rough, who'd ever known such beautiful scenery. Very attractive nature path. Alot of educational perks about plants and green life. This place is big enough for a nice romantic date or a trip for the kids. Very diverse environment, that is quite enjoyable. I definitely recommend stopping by and very affordable for the family.
Very nice gardens! It is a pretty small garden, relative to some others I've visited in other locations in the past, but the grounds are beautiful, with lots of different things to check out. I'm a nature photographer, and I got some amazing shots. I'll look forward to returning in a different season, to check out a different selection of things in bloom.
Unique botanical gardens located within the USF campus. Many wonderful varieties of native and non native species with many of them marked (there are several missing placards however). The gardens have a knowledgeable and friendly staff who know many of the plant species and if not the specific species can point you in the right direction. The gardens also has occasional sales and events for many different gardening clubs and organizations
If you have never been here please go!!...Very peaceful and lots to learn. Bring the kids there's so much to see and know about plants. They even have a bee keeping class!!!
A beautiful garden on the outskirts of USF. It is a wonderful place to visit and stroll. They have many plant sales throughout the week. I come here at least once or twice a week just to walk and take pictures. I suggest that you visit the butterfly garden while you are there. I have been able to snap a few amazing picture of butterflies.
My friend and I went for the 2019 Fall Plant Festival today. The weather was beautiful. Her first time here. We had a ball! Met some lovely plant lovers and vendors. We saw many beautiful specimens. Some of which we had never seen before. We both came home with some new goodies to add to our own gardens!
Beautiful, walkable gardens with a variety of plant life and great volunteers. Local honey, skin care, and plants for sale. A little too hot in the summer to walk outside without much cover for long, so dress appropriately. Cool, shaded sitting area in the poetry garden. Student discount available. Limited parking on site, but a huge lot across the street during festivals.
Totally great place to go with kids and enjoy some outside time. We come to Moffitt to drop my father off and we're always looking for a place to hang out during his appointments. We'll definitely be back. $5 admission is definitely worth it to enjoy outside time.
I love this place so much, ever since I discovered it hidden amongst the trees on the outskirts of Campus. Their sales are amazing, they have the most beautiful Orchid and succulent collection I've ever seen. They have many sales and events for both adults and children. They have a Children's Garden that was built and planted in maintained solely by children. It's a great place to stop by the butterfly station and relax and eat lunch in between your working hours. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.
I've been here many times over two decades. The plant sale events they run are phenomenal and bring huge crowds along with a variety of plants you normally can only dream about. Those events also bring along local artists, foods, and an amazing group of people. You should come, it's a great time.
Great selection of local plants at affordable prices. Love that they also sell local honey and have a course of beekeeping as well. I use to take long walks on the Bonsai Garden but its empty now... Overall 5 out of 5 stars
Such an incredible spot. USF Botanical Garden, you've been growing!!
Beautiful. A perfect place to let by 1yo run free...look out for thorns but otherwise its wonderful. A new beautiful sight around every corner. Low traffic and peaceful... i may just get a membership ($15 annually) and start a play group here. Parking onsite, I can take my stroller all over. Plenty of places to stop and rest (benches, picnic tables, open fields to lay in with blankets...
This place is like an oasis. Its surrounded by the hustle and bustle of city life but when inside, you can barely hear anything. Lots of places to sit and take it all in. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with a mix of all types of flowers, trees, shrubs etc. Certainly worth the $5 admission
This was a great daytime date! The grounds are much bigger than we were expecting and we walked all over the grounds. It was so peaceful, and it's free! will definitely go again to see what plants bloom in another season
Great plants to look at and to buy.
Excellent Botanical Garden. Friendly staff. Need to visit monthly to see each months flowers. More people need to learn more about the plants around them. Put the damn cell phone down and only use it to take photos.
A great place to go to find different varieties of the kinds of plants you like to grow and purchase right from the growers. Good selection and variety of plants and just the right amount of vendors. Prices are fair for what they offer. Not overpriced but they are not giving it away either. My friends and I went early before the afternoon heat set in and even got very close parking.
Knowledgeable staff. Good semi-annual plant sales with the Florida friendly plants in front. Store for the gardens' own plants and the gardens are available year-round. Not an expansive showcase garden. AHS Reciprocal Admissions Program member
It was such a pleasant experience. The exotic flowers, the succulents, breath taking orchid plants I could go on and on. It was worth the trip. God's creations. I will go back again.
Love the plants & Flowers. Staff are friendly & pleasant.
This place is amazing! It has everything - from cacti to grand mature trees for shade and cool. Right on campus
We found the place meticulously kept and the young lady who was in the office was very welcoming and friendly. Despite it being a very hot day and having my mother in a wheelchair, we did stroll around the grounds enjoying the great variety of plant specimens all around us. I bought several jars of the locally grown honey and some plants from the little shop. We would recommend to other to visit this place.
Ran out of time!!! I had a great time. But there were so many plants to smell, touch, and just adore!!! Of course some followed me home!! I recommend bringing a cart because there are so many plants to choose from. Minimual fee to get in!! I know i will be back next year for sure!!!
Very pleasant botanical gardens with a variety of plants from around the world. Garden is about 3 acres and can be viewed in about an hour. Handicap accessible. Also a variety of plants for sale. Staff person friendly and helpful. On the UCF campus but not a part of it. Enjoyed our time there.
The gardens are beautiful and serene and it was the staff that made the experience special. We were at USF visiting the campus and received extra insight about the campus and campus life from garden staff. Worth a stop to beat the Florida heat!
Loved the plant sale
Beautiful grounds with everything from cacti to oranges, herbs and flowers. Even carnivorous plants! Those that work and volunteer here are kind and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back!
As a whole I enjoy the USF Botanical Gardens. However, I have enrolled in their beekeeping course, and have been treated very unprofessionally. I understand these are all volunteers running the course, but it costs $180 to enroll, so it should be treated as a real course. When other students brought their children to the class and caused distractions, I asked to be moved to a group that did not have children in it. They responded not only by not accommodating me, but at the next class they asked my group as a whole if anybody wanted to switch out for personal reasons (this made me uncomfortable and I did not respond as to not make a scene in front of my peers). In this class you also get to purchase and raise your own hive! Upon inspecting said hive, I noticed there was no queen present, and requested that one be provided free of charge, as it was to be included in the original purchase. The volunteer responded very unapologetically and even left my message opened with no response at one point. This course lacks the professionalism I expect from any type of course offered on a school campus, and I would recommend caution in signing up.
Edit: the situation progressed and it was agreed I would be supplied with a queen, and when meeting up to receive the queen I realized there was a misunderstanding, and that I was to return the bees originally supplied in order to trade for a new hive. Jim reacted very poorly, and had quite a temper with me as well as being exceedingly condescending. I was stung in front of Jim and he had no reaction but to watch. I left in tears and and my partner who accompanied me was livid.
I contacted the head of the gardens, Laurie, who was very sympathetic and reassured me she would handle the situation.
Over all, I would very much recommend the gardens themselves, but I would not recommend the beekeeping course to anybody.
Gardens were okay. Kinda of a naturalized look. Some species of plants were missing identification signs. Good prices on limited supply plants. Local honey available for sell.
Where else can you see a HUGE cow statue?
A small but delightful botanical garden a bit off the beaten trail. Reasonably well signed and very helpful friendly staff. Very quiet and restful.
Nice place to spend an hour or so. Lots of plants and flowers to see but I wish there were clearly marked paths since it was easy to veer off in different directions.
A small but beautiful garden with interesting flora
Super wonderful experience ! Kim and Laurie are very professional and friendly . They are the perfect resource for plant answers to difficult questions. The gardens are always peaceful and beautiful. The honey is superlative ! The homegrown nursery plants are a delight !
I'd only been to botanical gardens in Dallas and San Francisco, so I'd expected something really big that would take hours to get through. This is not that. It took about one hour at an extremely leisurely pace. It is beautiful though and nice for a stroll. I think little kids would really enjoy it. I'd also wear bug spray if I went back.
Lovely respite from the city and traffic.
The garden doesn't have much to visit but there is a honey festival here every year around March which is awesome. You can taste different honey from different parts of US and some other countries. Also, they serve very good food.
Enjoyed the nature walk.
One of USF's hidden gems. I waited way to long before I finally dropped in to visit this place. It's $1 entrence fee for students and $5 for everyone else. It's an outdoor garden full of flower plants, medicinal plants, cool looking trees, bamboo, cacti, and much more. They sell their own honey, and a collection of potted plants. Occasionally they host events such as honey or plant sales. In summary, it's a great place to visit if you're looking for somewhere to relax, or if you have friends in town. I highly recommend visiting if you haven't had a chance to yet.
This place is very informal, looks like it is maintained by volunteer students and a small staff however there are a lot of plants and a decent job of name plates to help identify. Had a great time ☺
Nice place for a walk to relax your mind, the entry fee was very reasonable too at $5
Love the spring and fall plant sales. Great selection!
The garden itself could use some help. Trees are dying off and not being replaced.
Still a pretty place to walk around and be surrounded by nature and green.
I came here during a class trip for my Women in Literature course. We were discussing poetry and the way that many poets take inspiration from nature. While here, it wasn't hard to see why. The botanical gardens are so beautiful, there is a wide variety of plants, even a bamboo grove. They sell honey here, which I thought was really cool. I'd definitely recommend a visit here if you're in the area!
We had just a couple hours. Another review said it could be viewed in an hour. With my family, that meant at least two hours. Perfect. Staff is cheerful and helpful. Prices are excellent. Had a great time, even in the rain.
A lot of greenery. Amazing variety of flora, which signage to indicate the species. Disappointed that the orchids were not in bloom. However, the gardens are a keeper. We used Google Lens to I. D. some plants.
Took a stroll through the botanical gardens and felt very relaxed. Almost asleep on my feet even. There was a plant sale and judging contest going on that was pretty unique. I heard there was a pond but only found what looked to be a circle filled with water near what appeared to resemble a bridge style walkway. There was one fish in there. A gold one.
It's free to visit but has hours posted on your way inside. It seems like a laid back spot to study or read. Lots of shade. What I found interesting was all the different labeled plants and sculptures around stating who made what and when, what the plants are used to treat, etc.
So take a break...see some flora.
First time here. We came for a plant show and garden sale. My wife said the prices were great. If you come to buy plants, remember to bring a wagon to carry them back to your cat!
Calm and beautiful botanical gardens located within USF campus. Many different areas to explore. The gardens are nicely maintained, and the gift shop offers a variety of local honeys as well as some succulents and other plants. There is a small fee to enter.
It was hot the day we went, but, I must say, this place is so beautiful and for the price of Admission, I cannot wait to go again. It is much larger than I expected. But, a beautiful layout, plenty of shade and a perfect place to spend the day. Thank you so much for a fun and great adventure. I'LL BE BACK.!!!!! 😄😃 …
I go to the plant sale events that USF Botanical Gardens hosts a few times a year and they're great. Not only can you find some plants the stores don't have, but you can also meet people who grow them to get better info. We just have to be courteous of the fact that they don't have a big staff like a store and must spend their time with the people who are buying something. There are sellers who specialize in specific plant groups like succulents, Orchids, Plumeria, Bromeliads, Desert Rose, etc. There's even a guy with nice houseplants, and a few people who sell things like soil amendments and other supplies. These seasonal events are a great way to support the local botanical gardens.
Nice and quiet spot for a walk. Great variety of orchids on show!
Gorgeous quiet location. Affordable and great for photography.
I love coming here! The gardens are always beautiful and the plant shop always has very healthy and interesting plants.
They have always done a fantastic job, but lately they have gone from great to outstanding. They've cleaned up some areas, improved visibility and added some new stuff.
This small botanical garden gets a lot of bad reviews which bewilders me. Not sure what people expect from place that relies solely on volunteers for its upkeep. I first visited several years ago and at that time the gardens were in bad shape and poorly maintained. Now, the gardens are in much better shape and there are new structures that have been built. My only complaint is that the display area where they sell their honey and organic lotions and soaps is disgusting. It is very dirty and overrun by insects. Other than that, I found the gardens to be a pleasant, quiet place to visit on a slow afternoon.
AMAZING TIME ME AND MY DAUGHTERS HAD! Especially the arts and crafts for kids!
Such a beautiful peaceful place. 🐾🦎🌹 …
Super cool people and great plants.
The plant sale was great as usual. They need more benches to sit down .
Great little garden, for usf students it's so cheap even without the discount it's pretty cheap, only 5 bucks. Me and my wife had gone done to the st Pete botanical gardens and it was nice but for the price it just wasn't worth it in our opinions. I like the usf garden so much I proposed to my wife there.
Nice but some plants need to be watered. Bird feeder is empty. Peaceful place.
Beautiful place as always, always a nice stop on a beautiful day. They redid their garden shop, it looks a lot neater npe but unfortunately has a lot less plants. Regardless, I enjoyed my short time there
Summer Plant Sale had lots of variety and decent prices.
Worth the ticket fee. Lovely botanical garden. If you like walking this is for you.
We went here during plant festival. It was our first time. We saw an abundance of different plant sellers and bought 2 tropical plants. The cost of the plants are a little expensive but the sellers usually works a deal with you.
Beautiful botanical gardens that are well kept and have a great variety of beautiful plants. Truly appreciate their special festivals which allow people to see such a large variety of amazing plants.
Summer plant sale and I got some great plants for a low price. The gardens are beautiful and inspiring. Very nice and helpful volunteers too.
Nice and nice walk around. Confusing driving in or walking around
Really pretty mini park at USF Main Campus. Worth the trip. Be careful not to get locked inside at closing, though. Has a Pokemon Go EX Gym and 2 pokestops.
Quiet and calm, make sure to wear sneakers or shoes for walking on the dirt. It's got a cute little shop with fresh honey and plants and the pretty greenery, bird song, and butterflies make for a very peaceful atmosphere
Open neat and beautiful well maintained and offers some starts of some the fauna At pretty reasonable prices... Lots of cool events
A wonderful walk through some very nice gardens. There is some upkeep needed, but beautiful and very relaxing! I recommend the walk through the trails and let your mind relax from the day!
It is pretty big and has a big variety of plants. There's also some walking paths and a place people get married at. There is even bee hives set up to keep garden healthy.
Hidden gem on the Tampa USF campus. It is quite easy to spend a few hours just wandering around and enjoying the beauty of nature. The diversity is remarkable and a joy to behold.
Cool little botanical garden on the edge of the USF campus. Some parts super shady, some parts sunny. There are some cool plants to see. Worth a trip.
A nice place to take stroll. Recommend going in the spring to see more things in bloom.
Came here for a 'natural Florida' wedding and it was beautiful. Definitely a nice spot and for sure an under used venue. They sell plants of various shapes and sizes too.
So beautiful here. The campus is so peaceful and pretty
Lots of different plant and tropical trees also. All vendor's are very sociable and knowledgeable of there plants. Prices are reasonable also. If you need a specialty plant this is the place to shop.
Good place to spend some hours around nature.
A great place to checkout flora and fauna in Tampa. Located on the USF campus in Tampa it's a small oasis. The place has a $5.00 admission but it goes to a good cause. I do not believe that there is any other botanical garden in Tampa, so it is your best bet. I have seen much more spectacular botanical gardens in other states. It's still a very pleasant place to go.
I mostly go for the plant shop. This time though the plants looked as if they needed care and many were not labeled. Need to put a couple volunteers in there for a day.
I give it 3 out of mercy. I thought it would be lush with green grass and flowers and butterflies. It is run down but pay the 5 dollars to keep it open. We have all wasted 5 bucks on far far worse.
Something to do that is different.
Very beautiful, with some very different looking plants, I found the exotic looking cactus to be the best display, but I think there will be a favorite plant or tree for everyone.
Amazing, great variety of plants, flowers, and trees, so much to see so if you're a nature lover take at least 2 hours to take it in. The staff was give or take though. That's the only downside.
So beautiful and well kept. We enjoyed our time!
Beautiful and serene. Wonderful for all ages. My 1 year old enjoyed exploring all the different areas of the garden.
Visit Laurie inside the botanical gardens! USF always has beautiful plants for your garden. Take a walk and see the beautiful Hoyas and Begonias! The orchid house is always in bloom.
A wonderful botanical center that got slammed by first the hurricane, then the freeze last week. Lots of clean up and rebuilding going on. I hope that this little gem gets the funds and volunteers that it needs to get rebuilt.
Small but beautiful. Butterflies Orchids Medicinals and a lake. Staff was great. Definitely worth stooping and spending a couple of hours
Have been coming here since I was an undergrad starting in 1994. It has changed a lot since then, for the better. Go check out their plant store, and attend events, you won't regret it!
Decided to take a walk there between classes. Great biodiversity of plants, insects, and small critters. Nice and accommodating staff.
I come here every 3rd Saturday to attend the beekeeper training class. Program runs for 12 months to see the entire cycle of bees. You will also build a hive box and receive a nuc of bees to add to it for home.
I attend the multiple events held at the gardens throughout the year and am always pleased with their gardens and the events. I recommend to anyone who loves nature and gardens
Well maintained and beautiful
A beautiful garden. Admission was $5 . $4 for 60 and above. We walked and enjoyed the beauty. Nice place to visit with friends.
Great place to get out walk around, they've plants for sale too. We mostly go for plant and orchid shows.
A large variety of plants and trees. Many butterflies.
I was there for a plant sale today but I am a member there and go often meet a lot of interesting young people connected with the university doing internships there and many old Master Gardeners
I love this place. It's a great time and with a great variety and good prices.
Secretly tucked away at USF. Peaceful place to enjoy nature.
A nice place to visit if you love walking between trees and learning about the different plant species.
Very pleasant place to just enjoy the plants, or to purchase some interesting varieties.
Place to chill and walk in between drs. Visits At Moffit
Nice and relaxing. It's not good for a rollator or wheelchair.
If you're looking for something special USF Botanical Garden have a variety of plants to choose from. Nice garden to visit.
Wonderful place to visit. It was a little hot out this time of year but the flowers and butterfly garden are well worth it!

I come here every Monday for the veggies. The girl who provides them is so nice! Veggies are always delicious!!
My daughter who's a student at USF and I visited this place then I drop her off. She loves it.

Awesome sale! They even had a holding tent for your purchases and a golf cart to help you get your purchases to your car.
This is a nice place to wander through, especially if you want something to do while a friend or loved one is have a medical test or short procedure at the nearby hospital.
Varied plant specimen and it's a very enjoyable walk solo or with company. Great opportunity to take plenty of pictures.
Great place to visit with the kids or grand-kids. Always good advice and help. Their special events are well worth going to.
Had a wonderful walk around this park while waiting for a nearby store to open. The worker was knowledgeable and the space was well taken care of.
This was a nice place to visit. Very pretty and well kept. I enjoyed some quiet meditation during my visit.
What a lovely afternoon out for one!! Really gorgeous place USF has!
Absolutely beautiful and serene. Take advantage of this Tampa treasure, especially if you are a student.
They have all kinds of plants & it's very fun to go to, even with the family. We go every year
A beautifully green, peaceful place to walk in the midst of the busy university. Take a break and enjoy nature for just a little while!
I always like going to relax and look at the flowers, they have few these days.
Lovely little botantical garden on the southwest corner of the USF campus.
They host wonderful plant shows throughout the year.

It's a great place to visit I try to go as much as they have great plant speciums you can buy and take home
They cram a lot of garden enchantment into what seems like a small space. Love the spring and fall plant sales.
It's a very quaint spot besides the noises of the road. It's cheap, the people are friendly, and there's lots of places to sit down with a book or laptop and study.
Very nice garden, just that it's not too big
Great place to see a wonderful variety of plants. Closer together than Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo.
My friend and I go to their plant show every spring and always find interesting plants to add to our collections.
The plant festival was outstanding, well worth it. Great vendors, free parking, wonderful plants.
Probably not the best time of year but it was beautiful and I will be back in the spring
I've lived in Florida timba for over 42 years and I never knew that there was a bowtie in local gardens at USF... It is beautiful
Nice staff, 1$ for students. Not a ton to look at but still nice. Lots of missing tags😥 …
