Reviews of St Louis Symphony Orchestra
Had a great time at Powell, a beautiful theatre and home of St. Louis Symphony orchestra! Was excited to see Kishi Bashi with SLSO and was very impressed with the staff all the way up to the talent. Do recommend checking any show there!
Thank you, SLSO, for making a first visit to a family concert a seamless and enjoyable visit (with young children!). Despite buying tickets late the night before, Alyssa Przygoda got our seats squared away (we needed 4 together) and gave great communication about ticket pickup and parking for a family subscription. We had a great experience and a wonderful time. Children 6, 4 and 23 months had a positive encounter with a really interactive orchestra. 🥰 The 23mo (who honestly needed the nap she refused beforehand) didn't seem to be paying attention but in the evening found all the musical instruments which hadn't been played for weeks and started experimenting!! Clearly not a coincidence. ❤️🥁
Our first Symphony for all three of us. It was a great compromise chosing Star Wars
We will definitely recommend this and be back. There is no bad seats.
Great opportunity to enjoy a live orchestra. Sound quality is great and I presume that there's not a bad seat in the house. Seats are a little cramped, but this is to be expected. Movie theater style recliners weren't around when the building was erected. Dress code is wide open. On this occasion, I saw guys in t-shirts and shorts and guys wearing 3 piece suits as well. Overall it was a good evening and I hope to catch more events here.
Very nice venue. We have been there twice for Ben Folds concerts and the acoustics are wonderful. My only complaint would be that the bathrooms on the main floor seem to be a little small and cramped. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced and the parking is easy if you do not get there too close to show time. We are definitely going to go back for more events.
We are in these beautiful concert hall has great acoustics throughout the seating areas. Our new conductor has challenged some of the more traditional music by adding more contemporary music as well as less heard music by very famous composers. It's almost like if you want to hear something really wonderful and famous you have to be willing to listen to some new experiences as well. This is a type of programming that made Leonard slacken and the St Louis symphony one of the best orchestras and the country and they remain in that high strata to this day. This is a destination orchestra for players. Very few of them who are appointed to the orchestra leave before their retirement here. I've been a fan of the museum since the '80s. And there's how the concert I can say where something wasn't really exceptional. This is a gem which the public should support more. It's unfortunate that the school systems in the area don't have better music programs to let students have exposure to different kinds of music other than pop radio.
Amazing performance. The entire experience is mesmerizing. The grandness of Powell Symphony Hall and the talent of the musicians is remarkable.
The New Year's Eve concert was wonderful! Our first time with the new conductor. He is delightful! He is genuinely concerned with the audience understanding and relating to the music, the time period it was written in, the composer and the musicians. We appreciate this very much. The musicians are top notch!
We've gone for several movies and concerts. Always a nice time and the symphony does a great job. The theater is also very pretty.
Had a wonderful time! The building is spectacular! The orchestra played music by Whitney Houston and the young lady who sang It was great.
Amazing show and fabulous experience! We will be back!
Such a beautiful orchestra! Highly recommend this amazing experience. Or at least visiting Powell Hall - especially if you've already visited The Fabulous Fox Theater before and want to try something new.
Beautiful music from a long-established institution! Without the financial backing the likes of London or NYC symphonies have, SLSO performs just as well... and maybe even better! Wonderful!
Great live symphony music in a fine acoustic space is the best! SLSO may not be one of the top 10 symphonies in the world but they are close. That includes special event performances like Tan Dun's, The Tears of Nature concerto with world class percussion soloist, Martin Grubinger. With Elim Chan as dynamic guest conductor, it was an electric performance, at least for me. And the Tchaikovsky Symphony #2 was also top notch, especially the horn section! A great combination of old and new! It was a privilege to be there.
The symphony is top notch with excellent conducting, variety of music, comfortable theater. Season ticket holder for years.
Proof of Covid vaccine, identification and masks are required when greeted by friendly employees before entering. Always wonderful.
Movie night at SLSO is always fun! We are so fortunate to have a world-class symphony in St. Louis.
Attended the matinee performance New Year's Eve concert. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The bar was open prior to performance, and during intermission. Great fun.
We love it! Plenty of parking next to the venue and the overall experience is great! I would recommend getting there early if you plan on using the restroom or purchasing concessions as the lines can get long.
Excellent performance! Beautiful building.
Beautiful design and curious about the new improvements pending
Great performance. Feel save with their Covid protocols. Saw Motown Review...music wonderful and three singers outstanding.
Great mix of modern and classical performances. Tickets are very affordable (watch for discounts) and the holiday shows are particularly fun.
Traffic in the area can get backed up so plan accordingly (multiple theaters in the area).
Beautiful building, outstanding entertainment, and friendly staff. A visit to SLSO makes a wonderful date night, especially with the cocktails available for purchase. In addition to beautiful classical performances, the SLSO has a variety of movies with score, pop music visitors, and family friendly events throughout the year to ensure they offer something for just about everyone. Unless attire is specified for the event, people can feel comfy wearing jeans and a t-shirt, their Sunday best, or even a formal tux or gown. I've seen a mix of all 3 for every performance I've attended.
Discounted prices for students! It's absolutely beautiful and a lot of fun if you're interested in symphonic music. It's a great orchestra and the scene and experience are something that I believe everyone should experience one in their lifetime even if they're not into orchestral music.
Maintained historical integrity. It is what some would expect. Enjoy.
Love this place. The orchestra is outstanding and everyone can find a concert to their liking (as long as they like classical music, of course 😊) …
World class music in a world class venue. They managed to get everyone in efficiently even with showing vaccine cards. Very enjoyable evening.
My first show and first time being there but definitely will not be my last
They have a plethora of events and they always knock it out of the park. My favorite performance was with kishi bashi!
SLSO is always a joy to hear. I've lived in STL for about 3 years and have seen them perform 6 times so far. Although I cant afford to go to as many shows as I'd like (pricey tickets), I pay attention to their special student offerings, looking for an excuse to go back.
Excellent performance and such a beautiful hall. My first time since moving here six months ago and I enjoyed it.
This is beautiful historic site. The St.Louis Symphony is hands down gorgeous. This year Lift Every Voice and Sing will be playing starting Feb 2019.Lets show up
This is the kind of thing that makes living in cities special, particularly the Friday coffee concerts. Bonus that SLSO is world-class
Beautiful music and beautiful building.
We love our STLSO!
Wonderful performance in a gorgeous theater! The seats were comfortable and the staff was very helpful
There is no bad seat
Great audio. Off the chain performance
Always a wonderful experience, in any seat. The drink and snacks are reasonably priced. Easy entrance and exits.
Fantastic orchestra and chorus. New music director is very engaging. Highly recommend
If you've never been you have to see it for yourself. Just got my oink Floyd tickets
A "hidden" gem. One of the better orchestras in the country with probably the best conductor in the country right now this side of Dudamel (and honestly, I still like Robertson better).
Very loud and shiny
Top notch experience. Great atmosphere, concessions and performance.
Great family experience. World class orchestra!
Worth every penny to experience! The performance and acoustics are incredible to enjoy live.
Beautiful locale & ambiance. Nice variety of performances. And they have discounted tickets available for students.
Beautiful venue!!
You can see classics like Beethoven and then modern greats like Nelly and Ben Folds (yes I just compared them).
Excellent concert made better by forgetting about the miserable weather
Excellent venue. Beautiful architecture and not a bad seat in the house.
World class symphony and Powell Hall is superb.
A great performance with even better company. A perfect way to spend our anniversary.
Wonderful building with great musicians. Not a bad seat in the house.
Wonderful symphony in a beautiful building (Powell Hall)

Excellent musicians and elegant concert hall.
Saw the music of Led Zeppelin which was awesome. Not much else to say.
Awesome experience. You should go at least once.
