Reviews of Portland Oregon White Stag Sign
Best in the morning or after dark. Lots of trees in front of the sign make capturing a picture best just off the street or from the bridge. Parking is tough down here and there are lots of homeless Individuals milling about. Old Town is pretty quite these days.
Come when the sign is lit up and walk the bridge for the best angle! We went during the day so it wasn't lit up and it didn't photograph as great especially on a cloudier day (it kind of blended in with the clouds). I'm glad I finally got a pic though, it's a Portland visit must.
The park in front has a bunch of gorgeous trees but they unfortunately block the view. They are along the waterfront trail which we walked a bit of and saw a park with ground sprays, but the pressure was pretty low and I can't see kids wanting to hang out here. There are quite some homeless folks hanging around too. The bridge is a nice stroll and the view is beautiful. Also on one side of the bridge is access to a trail that goes along the water.
The sign is really cool to see and lights up 4pm-7am. You can view it from the water front, or from Burnside Bridge. (You can access Burnside Bridge from SW 1st Avenue.)
As someone who's not from the area, it shocked me how sketchy this area was. There were a lot of homeless people and people using drugs around the stairwell to go up to the bridge. It was kind of sad to see the state of the area. This is something I wish I would have known before. If I would have known this, I would have gone earlier in the day.
However, I'm glad I saw the sign, and the waterfront is very pretty. You can also take the train car downtown, which was convenient, since I was staying in Southeast Portland.
the best place to view the white Stagg sign is on the westbound side of the Burnside bridge in.
there are all sorts of viewing vantage points from the Burnside bridge but you can also have an obstructed view of the sign from down below on naito.
Nice sign of Portland on the top of this building. However, it is easy to miss as you can only see it either while driving into oldtown area from the bridge or walking by the bridge. Otherwise, the sign is covered by the trees. Also, this are is in general quite sketchy, with homeless people, tents and everything in general very sketchy. The sing itself must be much better at night when lit up. Don't miss the old town mill sign to right by it a bit behind.
I know it's just a sign, but what a sign welcoming traffic from Burnside Bridge to downtown Portland every day and night. The red / green / golden neon colors always reminds me of Christmas and indeed the red "Rudolph" nose will be lit for the Christmas season. By the way, do you know that it used to read "White Stag Sportswear"?
I wanted to visit it at night when it was illuminated, but I went during the day, and glad I did; neighborhood seems a bit sketchy.
If you’re doing the tourist-y thing it’s worth a see and easy to get to, but let’s be honest… it’s just a sign.
I saw the sign as I was walking across the Burnside Bridge and after going to voodoo doughnut it’s actually a really nice walk and it’s pretty safe to walk across the bridge from the sign to the other side. Right now there’s actually construction on the right side of the bridge so it’s a little bit hard if you want to walk on that side but on the left side it’s very easy walk and there are occasionally bike so you have to be pretty careful to not get hit by one of those but otherwise it’s a very romantic walk in a sense. I walked alone but I can still say that it was a good walk and you can see a lot of the Portland waters from here.
Cool must-see Portland sign. Definitely better at night. It’s a bit of a sketchy area so better to go with a friend or in a group.
Famous sign! Lots of homeless people nearby so beware. Have to get into the park to see the sign in full... hard to angle photos because the sign is so high up.
The best and famous sign to see!! Took amazing pictures of it from the park‼️🦌
📸‘s taken on 7/26/2017 …
Always nice to see, especially after dark when it’s all lit up! I think that the best view is midway across the Burnside Bridge.
Daytime photos are just okay, but night time view of the sign is great with the holiday effects!
This is one of the most beautiful places in Portland. I've traveled around the country and haven't had much luck finding places in Portland so far that are just good energy. Portland's wonderful in this place exemplifies that. You get to see the river and downtown along with gorgeous trees and cherry blossoms that are at this site.
The Portland Oregon White Stag Sign is the iconic sign easily seen as you approach the city.
The white stag was the mascot for the sportswear company of the same name.
It’s always fun to see the nose turned to red the day before Thanksgiving, in reference to Rudolph!!!
Proceed with caution. It was cool to get up close to the sign, but this sidewalk is shared with a shelter, so you may find a lot of unpredictable and mentally ill homeless people milling about. None of them bothered me, but I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe with just me and my friend being outnumbered. Just visit during the day I guess.
Visted from SoCal for the week, stopped to walk up the Burnside bridge around dusk to catch the sign light up. Altough there is a big tree in front of it that blocks the sign from across the bridge. So to get a good look at it you almost have to get under it.
On a side note, the sign is located right next to the homeless shelter, so if you go at dusk be prepared for that.
Came to Portland just to see this sign, i’m not kidding 😂 …
Probably the most famous piece of neon in Portland and I love it! Built in 1940 by Ramsey Sign Co it has survived. One thing that has happened since the begining and remains today is that the day after Thanksgiving they put a red bulb on the deer's nose, thus, here comes Rudolph 🌲❤️ …
A landmark or Portland, something Portland is known for! On my last night on Portland I walk thought the waterfront and river park and I enjoy a nice night pic of the white stag.
Just a fancy city sign on river front. Looks really cool at night when it's raining.
Been there since before I was born. You can see it coming and going from the city.
A new Portland tradition for me! I love the city and seeing this sign lit up at night was a sight to see. Stop by for yourself and enjoy the views all around you!
It was a nice warm evening to take pictures. As soon as I stepped out of the cab, I could smell human waste. Lots of homeless people milling about. None of them bothered me.
I saw this from the park below the bridge.. I’m sure you can get better angles on the bridge..
The sign was even cooler before it was taken over by white stag, but it's still pretty awesome.
Really nothing except a photo spot. Best to be up on the bridge, not at the address mapped.
Have to take pic from sidewalk on bridge...be careful of cars.
Iconic and unique....great photo opp for tourist
I loved it. Be warned that there is a significant presence of unhomed people at that end of Burnside. If you are a woman alone it doesn't feel safe at night. But then, maybe it's metapurpose is to give you some empathy for those without.
Put your walking shoes on (your going to need them in this city) and take a walk on the north side of the Burnside bridge and snap your very own selfie in front of the iconic Portland Oregon, Old Town sign. Built in October 1940, this monument within a beloved city is one of many frequented sites to see.
Worth the time for a photo . The area is heartbreaking. A lot of Portland’s Homeless stay 2 feet from the sign . Heartbreaking 😿 …
Really cool sign to be seen at night.
When I see this sign it feels like I'm home. I remember this sign when I was a kid.
Cool landmark, a bit sketchy area late in the day so pay attention and be safe.
The rose garden is beautiful. That have so many different variety of colors I've never seen before. You can see mt hood in the distance
It was hard to get a clean shot of the sign due to all the tree's, but still fun to see. The sign is right next to a homeless shelter so there was a ton of them milling about watching me, but only 1 was a problem and made it very uncomfortable as she was walking all around yelling and cursing at the top of her lungs and was clearly under the influence of something. I still had fun but without her it would have been perfect.
Hard to get a good picture of this place due to the trees and bridges. Kind of a fun little hunt to find.
Hard to find parking. A lot of homeless people at the park.
Well, it's just a a place to visit but I'll give it five stars because of my fam!
Such a unique sign. There is no where to park so definitely find parking near by and walk to it. Be careful at night!
I would give this place 10 Stars if I could! Very cool old historic building. And of course the iconic Whitestag! I've always liked how they put a red nose on him around Christmas! I am very glad they decided to leave that sign on the building.
(Vancouver, wa. didn't have the same common sense and they removed their lucky logger neon sign proud of the dumbest thing Vancouver is ever done in my opinion it added character just as this classic white stag sign does!)
Great photo op for this first-time visitor
Pretty sign near the waterfront very close from other major attractions such as voodo donuts and pine Street market cute to take a picture but be careful at night it is near a park that can be sketchy to be walking around alone
Very Cool Place! Nice view at night also
It’s an office building that has been beautifully updated to be LEED certified. It’s well managed, but getting to and from the building means navigating many street people/houseless folks, several of whom are under the influence of something.
Can't believe I didn't take a picture when the chance arose. Bad google mapper! Took me by surprise, I was expecting something corny but it looks so rad. Such a cool thing to see while passing the bridge into the West side.
Signs hard to see from the park, also area is a bit sketch!!
Very nervous while there security guards on street do help but..
I remember taking the picture I felt safe then dot-dot.
always a good photo opportunity. Pick a time of the day when the light is correct
It is just sign. The "Made in Oregon" store has moved to Pioneer Square. Use to have a great view of it from the other side of the river before that ugly building across the way went up.
An interesting historical landmark in Portland Oregon definitely worth the trip to see the area is near Chinatown a bit off the Beaten path. There is construction going on at the moment so expect barricades and 2 mobile bathrooms.
It's iconic. What more can you say? Got to see it from multiple vantage points even from across the river.
The famous White Stag sign now reads "Portland Oregon". It's hard to photograph from the ground because all the trees are blocking it. But it's still really cool.
It never gets old! Lots of homeless people around the area but we we're just fine getting to it.
An excellent experience I recommend it.
Nice place to take pictures
This sign is iconic, the deer is originally from the "White Stag" logo and was the sign on the side of the white stag building, where their clothing was produced. The words White Stag were originally where the Portland Oregon words are now. But before it was the Old Town Portland Oregon sign, the city was going to take the sign down until it was purchased by a private party, Bill Naito I think, and he change the sign to read "Made in Oregon". The best part of the Stag is during the Christmas season, they give him a red nose.
A must see! Going at night you'll run into quite a few homeless, but Portland has some of the nicest homeless people I have ever encountered.
Hard to find, but a Portland landmark. Park and river across the street, not many other tourist related businesses real close. A must see, especially at night.
The iconic sign at the entrance to Old Town, best seen from the Burnside Bridge
Iconic stag sign by the Big Pink
It's hard to get a good shot at street level, I recommend going on the bridge next to the building that the sign is on to get a good picture.
Was fortunate enough to be able to pull over late at night and grab a shot from the Burnside Bridge. Cute to see in person!
The area is a bit scary, but most homeless will not approach you.
I only spent a few minutes here viewing and taking pictures.
If this sign becomes a beer which is in the works many residents of Portland and surrounding towns will be upset. I wouldn't be surprised if there a protest
Iconic Portland sign 🤘 …
Super cool but couldn't get the shot I wanted
This sign is the beacon for Portland Oregon 👍💯 …
This sign says its portland but I wish we had access to it so we could get the photo in lol
I think it is great that the White Stag sign still shines its iconic light. Been there since I was a small child.
Easy to get to the sign
Great tourist spot
A good stroll through the park and you can see the sign.
When in Portlandia a selfie with the Portland sign is a must! This pic was during Stumptown Events WaldoCon!
I was parked right underneath the sign and did not realize it wow but I took pictures
Great big sign. Can't miss this when driving near it!!
A good Portland view, just watch out at there can be some bad guys hanging around below the bridge
Iconic picture of Portland
Great for photos ...worth it
I go for the Duck store
Always a good photo and heart warming even on a cold rainy day.
I visited the Duck Store in this building under the White Stag sign.
My home
The huge neon sign dazzles at night.
Welcomed me with open hoofs
Visited the famous White Stag sign while in Portland, Oregon. A must-see.
Iconic sign. Not worth stopping for, but happy to have it on the skyline
Ok building, but outside there are allot of homeless and it smells like urine.
Great to see!!!
It's been changed over time, but it's still the beautiful sign it's always been.
Cool spot for pictures. Go at night!
So beautiful! For the best photo, go on the bridge!!
This is the sign that basically says welcome to Portland. Unique only to that city
Favorite town PDX!
I take pictures....love it
Fun place that has an unfortunate number of transients nearby.
Best historic sign in portland
Sweeeeet Portland sigh. Looks exactly like on TV! Haha
Must visit landmark, roam around the Portland area and visit voodoo doughnuts as well.
Always Ironic beauty
Area is a little bit dodgy. Nobody bothered us but just be careful.
Good view
Fun staple of Portland!
Beautiful building and the home to University of Oregon in Portland.
Back in Portland... love it here@
Love Portland!
I drive under this sign twice a day. It exists.
Secretly celebrating Christmas every year!
Parking can be a challenge
A classic Portland institution. Also just a sign.
Always a pleasure seeing this...
Dropped off some Ppl to take photos
Very pretty
Iconic

There is also a fun and fashionable town within walking distance, so let's take a commemorative photo while being excited.
Without exception, I also took a commemorative photo with my friends under this and took a picture of this neon sign alone.
A symbolic existence of the city I love, the image of a city of nature and culture.
With love I also say:
Keep Portland weird!!!
Thank you, Portland, for teaching me and making me realize something wonderful.
I definitely want to go again.
