Reviews of Philadelphia Zoo

We enjoyed our visit to the zoo immensely! It was a gorgeous day to enjoy the animals, the sunshine, and the beautifully landscaped pathways. We were disappointed that we couldn't see some of our favorites like the penguins and flamingos (due to avian flu precautions). We especially enjoyed the family of gorillas. :) If you plan to visit more than once in a year, I highly recommend investing in a membership!

We came here during the Memorial Day weekend 2021. This was our first time here. It was raining on the way here and for a short period time after arriving but it eventually stopped and we were able to enjoy the Zoo. Parking was pretty easy and was just a short walk to the main gate. Once through the main gate there is an inside exhibit, we hung out in there for while because they had a few new baby animals and it was neat to see how they act with their mothers. A few exhibits was closed at this time but nothing that would stop you from having a good time! They have so many animals to see and enjoy! One of my favorites were the 3 giraffes, which was amazing to see because most Zoos I been to either have 1,2 or none at all. Be prepared because it is a lot of walking so bring your best walking/running shoes. Can’t forget the beer! Beer was good and cold! However, this Zoo is kind of pricey because you have to pay for parking and admission, which is unheard of. All of the Zoos I have been to you either paid for admission and parking was free or you paid for parking and admission was free. I still recommend visiting the Philadelphia Zoo. You will have a great time!

A pretty good place to see animals from around the world. We were able to see most animals, except the otters and the birds were not out. I believe the birds were in protection due to the bird flu. Completely understandable. The layout is traditional zoo- large oval with a few different paths. We ended up going on a weekday, it was not too busy which was lovely for seeing the animals. We were able to do all of it in 2 hours, although we were moving at a pretty good pace due to time. I would say you could spend several additional hours here watching the animals and reading all the information. The exhibits appeared to be very clean, and there were multiple places to either get food or vending machines available for drinks /food. The day we went it was very warm, we were thankful that a lot of the zoo is shaded.
We ended up purchasing our tickets ahead of time, just to save time. I think if you go during the week you do not have to do this as it's not as busy, and you can purchase them at the door. However, to guarantee it may be a good idea to do it ahead of time. You can also purchase your parking pass online as well if you plan on parking in one of the lots.
The kids loved that the zoo had a gift store as well, and for the most part it was pretty reasonably priced for a zoo.
On a side note, we learned when we went, that this is the oldest zoo in the nation which is really cool!

My family and I visit the Zoo at least once a year. Every year we get to see all of the animals. But this years was different. Majority of the animals were moved in door due to a suspected avian influenza. Therefore, we didn't get to see much of the animals. We went on Wednesday exactly 9:20am, 10 minutes before the zoo could open. We bought our tickets a day prior including parking. Because we went early there was no long line. We rented a stroller. The girl there was were helpful and she made sure to wipe the stroller. Sucks I couldn't remember her name. Overall we had a pleasant time. And the weather was beautiful.

Great day trip with the kiddos, mine were excited to see animals but that’s where I gave it a 3 star because many animals were missing, the big cats weren’t active, primates also were just laying around, the reptiles became a cool game of can you spot it. What I was disappointed at was everything cost extra, train ride for kids, carousel, food, water, feeding animals, etc. also the zoo keepers didn’t seem excited or thrilled to talk about the animals or get the kids involved with fun facts. Definitely a lot of room for improvement but I believe it’s still a nice day out!

A wonderful experience.
We came in April 2022. Buying the tickets online was very easy. You can change your reservation up to 11:59PM the previous day. You can also pay for parking ahead of time.
The Zoo is well laid out making it easy to see all the animals. It’s also well designed for strollers. The food was very good with plenty of options.
There is beautiful artwork throughout the zoo: sculptures, paintings, art installations: well thought out and distinctive. The conservation efforts are well show cased too.
The Big Cat area is not to be missed. The Primate Reserve is excellent as well. The animals have large walkways to traverse the park in and it is a very cool feature.
We enjoyed our experience very, very much. The zoo does not take much time to see if you are short on time: you can still enjoy all of it. So don’t hesitate: you do not need all day but can easily make it a leisurely experience and picnic as well.
Highly recommend!

Just a few pictures of our fun day at the zoo! We were so happy to see all of the animals today! We were a little worried when we first arrived and saw all of the kids on a field trip but it wasn't too bad.
My 4 year old said he loved seeing all of the animals!

May 2022 - All of the bird exhibits are closed due to avian bird flu - which is understandable. Many of the concessions and gift shops were closed. Some areas were closed with signs stating Covid precautions. The park itself just felt more run-down than during previous visits. Also, take c/c to pay as they do not have any coin change for cash transactions. We visited as a large school group. It is a safe park and we saw several : "Park Police/Security" riding around on golf carts.

This was my first visit ever to the Philadelphia zoo and I must say it was an experience. This zoo is absolutely huge for. Prepare for a day of walking. Their are little eatery places that serve different types of food, snacks, and drinks. The animals that were out were exciting to see. Many exhibits were under construction (total bummer). A tip for the zoo would be, maybe update your website so customers/visitors know that some exhibits are under construction.
However, my family and I still had an amazing time. There were still many animals to see and read about and a few of the animals actual put on a show. Overall, I will definitely plan another trip.

This is one of my happy places! It never gets old for me visiting the Philadelphia Zoo. I purchased the family membership as a gift for my brother and his family for one year. Great perks! It covers free admission for two adults and two children with one car for parking. My mother and I did not have a membership and it was 24.00 dollars per adult. You must reserve tickets online, rather you are a member or not. We visited on July 4th. During our visit due to the heat, a few animals were inside for their well being. We had iced coffees upon arriving, later lunch, walked around, took a train ride for my nephew and got to see the beautiful animals up close. You will enjoy it with family, day date, or simply by yourself, enjoying nature and animals.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with our visit with the mixed reviews. First off, I would just head to the parking garage for parking because the main area was small and the secondary lot was a bit of a walk.
The zoo layout was a bit confusing but we did get to see a lot of animals. Bringing a 3 year old, we only expect to see so much until she gets cranky. So we did see a good amount I thought. There were only a couple empty cages, we at least got to see rhinos, giraffes, lions, tigers etc. I think go into knowing it’s not the largest zoo ever.
The thing that wasn’t great was the food which I thought was very limited. The green acres dining was a couple food trucks which had chicken fingers, hot dogs and some type of sandwich. It was expensive and not great. We spent almost $50 on hot dogs and chicken fingers! Adults will be happy they sell alcohol but it comes at $10 a drink. Otherwise we did have a good time, I’ll just pack lunch next time.
Peyton Kelley
Very nice. My family and I had so much fun seeing all the animals I'm hoping to come back again sometime to see the birds. At the end we went in the shop and there was so many cool things a bit overpriced but we got one thing for each of us. So much fun I definitely recommend visiting there.
Anna Kash
We really enjoyed our visit today. Even though we didn’t make it through the entire park, I can’t even imagine what animals we missed because we saw so many! The park is a little confusing for first timers, but plenty of friendly staff will help you on your way. Beverage and ice cream machines are spread throughout for convenience. Parking garage is just down the block, not a far walk at all. Highly recommend for a day outdoors!
Christopher Roll
It was chilly and there is a case of Avian flu, so a lot of the animals were away for safe keeping, but we still had a blast! We got a very close look at several usually evasive animals! The personal details about many of the animals and why habitats are set up the way they are help add a personal touch and the really make the animals feel like family. The focus on several conservation efforts is also very nice
Kari Schiellerd
We came on a Wednesday first thing in the morning. We saw a lot of different animals, we did not see the Sloth bear, snow leopard or Kangaroos, the red panda we caught a glimpse of. The little train wasn't running for awhile. Face painting and caricatures were not open. Some places to eat didn't open for awhile, most not at all. Overall it was nice, we avoided crowds and got up close with every exhibit. Lots of statues and fun displays. My kids enjoyed the exploration trail with the giant bird nest, spiderweb, bridges and log tunnels. We ate afterwards somewhere else. Gift shop was underwhelming as well. We came for the animals and only missed a few, everything else being closed didn't bother us, but wanted to point it out, probably better on the weekend if you want that stuff.

We went to see the beautiful light show. I would recommend checking it out but bundle up because it’s cold out there. If you know your way around the zoo it’s not bad at all. Finding a bathroom would be hard for someone unfamiliar. Finding good food was an issue. This would be a cute date but make sure to eat first. I’m not sure why they make you reserve a time slot when it doesn’t seem like that actually matters. The people in costumes are the best! They were great please make sure to show them love! The marshmallow roasting was incredibly cute and relaxing. My husband got spoke hot cocoa and he said it was so good. I had spiked hot apple cider, but it was not even warm. It was room temperature at best. I was a bit disappointed since it was chilly outside. The “food” trucks sold an appetizer each. Nachos at one tenders at the other. That was a bit odd. And the staff was not friendly. You could stop at stands and grab other handheld items but I can’t remember what they offered. But let’s be real we went for lights and I think they did a fantastic job. DO NOT go expecting to see animals. If you do you will be disappointed.

We visited the Philadelphia zoo for the first time in December. First off, make your ticket reservation online and select the time you want to enter. This ensures it’s super easy to get in. There’s tons of animals there’s for the kids to see especially a beautiful tiger. There’s indoor exhibits such as the reptiles and birds as well as great natural habitats. It’s a big zoo so if you have kids who don’t like to walk, make sure to take breaks. The food trucks were also good snack treats and affordable prices. The goat petting section was adorable and Mackenzie, the cutest herd leader was super sweet. Overall a good investment and fun times.

Our group visited the zoo on a day where the feels like temperature was 22 degrees. Obviously, it wasn’t ideal, but we were enthusiastic and ready to enjoy ourselves as much as possible. We were disappointed to see how many exhibits were simply unavailable (with no area to see the animals) if it was too cold for them to be outside. Having visited other zoos, I thought there would be a place to see some animals in their stalls where they are fed or something like that. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We thoroughly enjoyed the animals we did see, but we were also a bit bummed by the zoo staff. While some staff was informative and educational, the staff at the gift store was astonishingly rude. I’m truly a person who never leaves negative reviews, but the behavior of the staff at the gift store was so shocking, I can’t avoid mentioning it. When we entered the gift store, we were there 3 minutes and the lady at the front register yelled to all patrons that the store was closing. – No big deal… it was 3:30pm, the zoo wasn’t that busy, and I’m sure they were ready to go home. Having said that, as we went to make our purchases, the staff acted annoyed that we want to purchase items. One register was already closed, which caused a line at the only open register. Honestly, with four employees working in the gift store, I was shocked how ‘closing time’ was handled. We didn’t even receive a bag for our purchases. We were simply handed the items and the lady at the door gestured for us to exit the store immediately. Having served in customer service myself, I understand it's a difficult job. I’m sure the employees have to deal with annoying customers, but we were not ‘those’ customers. We were appreciative, kind, paying customers. I wish the end of our experience could have been better.

Awesome sauce. I have not been to the zoo since I was in school and it was great because yes it was a little cloudy it was still a little humid and all the animals were just getting their breakfast we got there as soon as they open. The best experience ever I love how close the animals get. The silverback gorilla look like he was people watching while eating breakfast. Greatest experience ever
Barb Bayer
My daughter brought me and her one year old son. I have not been here in 30 years. The last time I was here was when I was the new mom with a one year old! They have a nice assortment of animals, the rare and the not so rare. They are beautifully kept in clean areas.
Jordan Desjardins
The Philadelphia Zoo is definitely an absolutely fantastic way to spend an afternoon with friends or family!
That said, as much fun as it is it seems to have been on a steadily downward slide in quality in recent years. The variety of animals has been getting smaller and smaller as time goes on, and a decent amount of the animals don't seem to be out and about on a regular basis.
I still enjoy visiting often and have an annual family membership, but its not what it used to be.
Rachel Coulton
We visited on World Refugee Day and had a nice enough time. Sadly, the birds were all put away to avoid avian flu. It was a hot day and I honestly feel like there could have been much more shade/water provided for the poor animals. I noticed there were even some sections of the zoo where the plants were wilting from lack of water. I did appreciate the plentiful benches and picnic tables, especially by the lake.
Briana Torres
I have loved this zoo since I was a child. It was an amazing experience to take my own daughter there for the first time. We had a great time. It was a very interactive experience, with something for everyone. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the birds. But they are currently being kept safe during the Avian flu outbreak. Every precaution was taken for our safety and the animals. Great family day trip!!
Kat Furta
Visited for the 2021 light show and had a great time walking through the various lighted displays. We parked in the Zoo dedicated parking lot and it was a conveniently short walk to the entrance. They also handed out free hand warmers which was a plus.
Alex Schwartz
This is a good way to spend an afternoon with a young toddler. The zoo was quiet on a hot afternoon but the animals made for a great trip. The only disappointment is that none of the birds were available to see. My wife really wanted to see the flamingos.
Jean Leisher
I loved the zoo as a kid and haven't been back in so many years. I took the opportunity while I was home and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. There were hardly any animals anywhere. The birds were away for their safety, which I understood and appreciate, but there were very few other animals to even see. I don't know where they were or why their pens and cages were empty. It was a big disappointment.
Food was tough to come by, too. We found one stand open with any actual selection and it cost $65 for three of us to have burgers and fries ouch.
Teresa May-Benson
Great zoo. Lots to see. Very well maintained. Nice selection of animals to see. Many are up close and personal allowing great pics. The children's petting zoo is great. A very nice day.
Samantha T
The zoo itself is nice. They do a lot for conservation and the animals are well cared for with clean environments. The food, however, is an absolute rip off. And some of the employees (general staff, not snimal care staff) obviously dislike their job. As do we all.
Kaylie Siddall
Excellent experience with young kids! The parking was easy to get to directly off of the interstate and was just a short walk from the entrance of the zoo. The paths are well laid out and the 'skywalks' for animals was a really neat feature! Between a great variety of species to easy-to-see exhibits and fun play stops along the way, this was a great experience for even the youngest members of our family! (Kids all under 5 years old)
Idy Rubinstein
The zoo is kept well and clean, we loved the nature- felt like we were going on a nature walk!
There was some exhibits that were empty,(because there is some kind of a bird virus going around)
Agnetha Garcia
Nice zoo, small in comparison with San Diego but still very nice. Staff are very friendly, lots of shade, nice looking enclosures and a large variety of animals. Great half day trip with some great lunch options.
Jason Gavidia
An educational and enjoyable experience. A little to expensive to eat there. But its nice that you can bring your own food and drinks. Great for kids and an awesome staff.
They Call Me Jelly
Our kids loved it! Look very clean and organized. Had so much fun! The people working here are very pleasant, very good with kids.
Definitely coming back in the summer.
Neil Bolton
Loved this place! Huuuge zoo. Really friendly staff. Security guard is a legend, definitely need to go chat with him. Not everything was open due to winter/covid but it was so quiet we got front row seats to everything. Food stalls are expensive but I guess expected. We bought the City pass which includes the gate price.
Queen Legitimate
We visited the Saturday before Easter. It was such a beautiful day. Sadly all of the birds were inside due to a bird flu but we understood it was for their safety. Otjer than that we got to see zebras and a rhino, giraffes, tigers, lions, gorillas and monkeys. We ate the food truck area and everything was delicious. Overall it was a great day and we can't wait to return!
Pamela Smith
Me and my children had a grand time. My daughter was Soo happy and pleased, They had a petting zoo, the kids enjoyed themselves there. My daughter absolutely loves animals and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, and the gift shop actually had a black veterinarian doll with tiger cubs. She loves it. Btw the staff had to find a black one for my daughter all the white ones were displayed and she overheard me talking with my daughter about the black doll, she was so helpful and found one behind the white ones. However I'm glad she found one for us.❤️
Adam Levine
Fun place for a family day. But do yourself a favor and pack sandwiches and drinks. $38 for 4 chicken tenders that were cold, fries and a drink. Total rip off of you buy food there. Go on a cloudy day and the place is basically all yours. We had a great time, only downside is the price for food if you buy it there.
Abdul Ejas
Excellent experience hanging out here with friends! Tiger walks are the best at this zoo!
Dave Enty
We visited the first week of April 2022. It was a nice April day so most of the animals were more active than if it were the middle of summer where they just hangout in the shade. Due to the bird flu, we were not able to enjoy the birds but we still had a wonderful day. Parking is right around the corner. The zoo offers plenty of different food options.
Victor Signorelli
BOO @ the Zoo! What’s. Great fall tradition that the Philadelphia Zoo host. Sign up for a time and enter the decorated zoo. They have trick or treat stations set up all around the zoo for kids. Most of the exhibits have a twist of Halloween spirit in them.
The zoo itself is a very clean, family friendly zoo. With Giraffe feedings and interactive shows, it is a great time with the fam!
vineet saini
Good but not as expected, many both were osed. Food counter were closed that make hard with kids. It was hr we were out with kids. Reptiles section is good, kids love it.
J S
Awesome experience. Animals are very well taken care of and the staff was extremely welcoming to us.
We came to Philadelphia especially to visit the zoo and we are happy with our decision!
Aison Hickman
Didn’t seem like it used to..meerkat maze was closed (very disappointed) & couldn’t see penguins due to an influenza so birds were not open for public to see.
Went to order food & they didn’t have any cold sandwiches/wraps, no pepperoni for pizza & no souvenir buckets for the tenders & fries platter offered on menu. Chicken tenders were over cooked w/barely any “meat” on em..French fries weren’t bad but at the price u pay, wasn’t really worth it. Paid $4 for a bottle of water.
Went to get souvenir coins from machine & they only had 1 of the 4 being offered.
But at least it wasn’t too hot out so wasn’t a terrible day.
PRANAV KULKARNI
Very good zoo to visit. I feel red panda is the biggest attraction of the place. Also you can see tiger, lion and leopard. You can easily spend 1-2 hours easily in the zoo.
Michael Pham
Penguin exhibit was closed since they were molting. It's 90 out, so most of the animals were sleeping or dodging the sun. Overall it was a quick trip but still fun to see what I could see. Especially the hippo feeding and the red panda.
Deana Simone Ingram
Great experience for the family. BEAUTIFUL lights and displays. They serve hot Cider and chocolate that adults can spike 😈. A little disappointed that we couldn't see the animals. If you park in the garage pack your patience when leaving. Took us like 40 min to get on the garage. Best time to go might be later. Would go again and bring my nieces!
Carol Bungy
Had such a wonderful time!! Great price for an entire day of fun!! Always pack a lunch and drinks!! We go every year!! Shame the birds are in quarantine because of avian flu
Chris Day
Wonderful Zoo. The luminature event is so cool, bright beautiful lights of every color with live performers that are awesome. It's a really great time with friends or with family.
Madame Dabo
Excellent place to spend time with the family. The kids have so much fun. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and backpack with cold drinks. Be early to get a good parking spot and be out before it gets too crowded. Take lots of pictures as the experience is amazing and the little one will love to have pictures to remember. They have a huge variety of animals and they are safely guarded. I recommend this place.
William Schadewald
Haven't been to the Philadelphia zoo in quite some time so I was excited to go back. Loved everything about it including the addition of the dinosaur exhibit which was really cool the only reason for the four star instead of five was the fact that several exhibits and animals were no longer there. I'm late going in to see the giant honeycomb which that building was closed as well as the bird exhibit which was closed and it seemed like they were lacking in a lot of animals. But it was still a fun day with the family and friends
Chris Judy
I have been to many zoos in the country. This is one of the best that I have visited. I really like how they have the pathways that the animals can travel throughout the park to different habitats. It allows visitors to see the animals up close and easier than looking through glass.
Brynn Ann Ditsche
Illuminatire at the zoo is awesome! We went when it was freezing cold so not much of a crowd! The displays were beautiful and the characters dancing around the zoo were also great! Took a lot of pretty photos and had some spiked hot chocolate that'll run you about 10 bucks
Arlene Caj
Enjoyed it very much!
Closest I will ever be to such diverse and rare animals.
Have been on the Singapore Zoo Night Safari and this was contained and just as interesting.
Online cost ticket price for adults showed $14. However, actual entry cost is $24 and parking lot fee $17.
Amy Boylan
Good overall, small sized zoo though. There are some options for food but not very friendly to people with dietary restrictions, such as gluten free, etc. I was surprised by the lack of crowds on the weekend.
Sarah Miller
My Niece Loved her class Field Trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. The One thing all of the kids agreed on was there wasn't many animals out. We assumed it was because we went On one of the hottest days
Sammi Clark
This zoo goes above and beyond to provide nicely sized enclosures and enrichment/stimulation for the animals. They have see through mesh walkway tunnels that some animals can use to "travel" from their enclosures. It's pretty cool! You're just walking along and a monkey, goat, otter, gorilla or even a tiger can pass overhead!!!
Kevin Haughey
One of the oldest zoos in the U.S.! There's lots of history and lots of different animal species. The food is alright. I recommend ordering food at the Watering hole. The watering hole is a beer garden, yes you heard that correct. The zoo is always hosting a special event to make it more fun than it is. All the animals look healthy and taken care of by the best in the country. There is plenty of parking in the garage and the lots across the street. Highly recommend!

The Philly zoo is always a great place however I was slightly disappointed. Mostly because a lot of exhibits were empty. Some had a sign but most didn't. Got really tired of looking at empty pens.
Kayla Spruill
Nice to walk around, not crowded at all. However there were a few animals that weren't out like the elephants and the penguins. So I would plan a trip here just before the summer holidays in May.
Sarah Weller-Bentivegna
The Philly Zoo has so many unique features! We love how the animals have walkways and platforms where they can walk overhead and the people feel more involved with the experience than at other zoos.
Lisa Ross
It is best to go early so you won't miss anything
My lil grandson had a good time. I love the zoo. They have a parking lot.
Menuche Rubinstein
Although we got to see a decent variety of animals, the experience felt a bit dull. Perhaps because it wasn’t interactive? There wasn’t any music, nice decorations or special activities for the little ones. Although not a bad experience, I wouldn’t go back.
key lime
I received 2 tickets and free parking from Yelp elite to attend the opening night of the LumiNature Media Party at the Philadelphia Zoo. Coming from DE, traffic was horrendous and what should have taken 50 minutes took over 1.5 hours. But it was worth it when we arrived. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and it was fun attending the event before the general public. Most of the animals were inside for the night, but we did get to see the zebras. It wasn't too cold and we were able to enjoy the lights throughout the zoo at our own pace. We also saw the lighting of the flamingo tree. There were drinks and food for the VIP event, so we grabbed some wine and some snacks. Chase handed out scarves and cookies, and we left with a few bags of kettle corn. Thanks Yelp, this was a really fun event!
TeenaSanFran SanFran
FYI a lot of exhibits closed 4/24/2022. Some due to latest aviarian flu to protect them, so that’s understandable, but treehouse and lots of passage closures too. Disappointing for new members… and of course, still having no elephants hurts too… Appreciate they have some gluten-free food options for next time. Carousel was working and petting zoo was open.
Robert Wheeless
Great day for the Zoo.! Everything inside was well done. We had wonderful day! I recommend it highly for the kids. Missed the Elephants. The parking problem was disappointing.
Alethea Smith
the service food and the line wasn’t long for waits. they have removed some attractions since i last went there but the animals and new exhibits make up for it. animals are kept happy and tank/cages clean🐒🐘🦁
Harrison Round (Sonny)
The Philadelphia zoo is an absolute gem, they have an incredible range of animal diversity, an impressive historical context, and a family friendly atmosphere to enjoy fun for the day.
Highly recommend the big cats and getting a big soft service ice cream cone. If you are thinking about going, do it ! 10/10 recommend this zoo to those looking for fun and relaxation.
Sylvia Bull
Loved the zoo, while some animals were off exhibit for health and safety reasons, there was still a lot to see and do. Loved the big cat area and watching the animals in the Zoo360 was a real treat!
chirag savla
Not wheelchair/stroller friendly. Be prepared for ups and downs. None of thr doors had handicap accessible button for opening.. was difficult to hold the door open while also handling a wheelchair. Many other visitors had the same problem with stroller.
Ramya Gupta
Great place to check out animals and activities for kids like barnyard, kidzoo play area and feed the giraffe my kids just loved it … parking is tough not liked it much but if we go early will get the nearest parking lot space. I suggest membership for family of 4 .. it includes parking fee.
Mohammed AlShaibani
A beautiful zoo. Good number of animals. I felt that they really take care of the zoo and especially, the animals. So many rare species for the size of the zoo.
Aaron Trometter
We had great weather for what is probably my 20th visit to the oldest Zoo in America. It has changed so much since my 1st visit back in 1979 but still a great place to bring the family. A little upset that no birds were out due a bird flu that is going out, but understandable. If you have an opportunity, go visit this zoo as you won't be disappointed
Nancy Jimenez
Such a beautiful zoo. The giraffe exhibit was our favorite. We enjoyed getting to feed the giraffe. All the employees were so kind and welcoming. One of the best zoo experience I have ever had.
Matthew Huebner
The philly zoo is an awesome must see attraction in the city. The zoo is friendly for all ages and is packed with animals and people alike. All the birds were locked up when I went due to the bird flu, however all the rest of the animals were amazing. Definitely recommend seeing this massive zoo!
David Price
Love this Zoo... Lots of different animals ex: giraffes, hippos, rhinos, monkeys, otters, kangaroos, and Eagles to name a few. I brought the whole family this weekend and we had a great time. Some of the exhibits were closed but we still had a fun time. Love the nostalgia of being the 1st zoo in America. Plenty of photo opportunities but bring a nice zoom lens. Cant wait to go back when everything is at 100%.
Tammy Merson
Loved this zoo. My favorite animal were the Red PANDAS! The otters were so loud. The Silverback father was so 😔 sad. Lots to see indoors and outdoors.
Tiffany Fliedner
Went on a Thursday and got tickets for 9:30am. Perfect time to go. I read reviews before going to the zoo and honestly I was nervous about the amount of animals I would get to see. But reading the reviews was wrong for me because I had a wonderful time and I can’t wait to go back! Yes some things were closed due to the pandemic but that’s understandable. I saw SO many animals so I didn’t mind. I had such a great time! Parking wasn’t hard to get so many spots when you go early. Restrooms are in the park easy to find. Love how much room the animals have. It is a lot of walking but it is enjoyable cause of the animals and the scenery. They have a gift shop + even food places were open. Also it was awesome to see everyone wearing masks when inside the exhibits when needed, I didn’t feel nervous at all because everyone was wearing them. Enough space in the park because it’s so big! Been to zoos where they are small. I totally recommend this zoo! It was cool watching the workers fed/clean the animals area. So many animals to be seen at this zoo and you won’t be disappointed! I wasn’t, I left feeling very happy! Some animals were hard to see because they were either sleeping or due to heat but came back around and saw them later on! Included just some of the animals I saw in pictures. I saw so many animals but don’t wanna overflow with photos and let everyone just experience the animals in person themselves! Was reading reviews and people said they didn’t see some animals that I saw, maybe it was off day, but so many to be seen!
Julia Sanders
It should be dubbed “Home of the Otters.” They really did steal the show. Just a heads up we needed to buy admission & parking tickets ahead of time online. It worked out great! I loved how we could pick out the time. The Zoo was not overcrowded at all. It was a way better experience like this than before. I hope they keep it up.
Emily Olsen
An absolutely wonderful zoo! While everything on grounds is worth a visit, the primate house is exceptional and definitely worth your time. Unfortunately, during our visit many of the birds were off exhibit due to avian flu, and the avian center and small mammal house were closed to guests. Despite this, there is still plenty to see and do!
SoFortunate Travel LLC
I absolutely adore America’s first zoo! I am a member at the supporter level and I love it for my grandkids. Although they phased out this level of membership, it includes the carousel and the ropes course as well as free parking. What I don’t like is the stroller rental experience. You have to scan a QR code to pay and it’s time consuming as well as a huge inconvenience.
Irina Sumrajit
This zoo is Awesome we loved everything about. Especially feeding the giraffes and the tiger walking above us. And last the bird theater that is definitely original.
Christina Wible
Loved our recent visit to the Zoo! It was clean and beautiful. The animals were amazing of course. Didn't want to leave.
Christina Gleason (Chrissy)
The Philadelphia Zoo no longer houses some of my favorite animals, like wolves or polar bears among other popular animals. As much as I want to love the zoo because of my love of animals it just isn't the same as it once was.
That being said the Christmas light show is like no other. If you get the chance to see it it really is a must! For that reason alone I rated it higher than I think I should have.
Vincent Bonaddio
Went during the bird flu but already booked our tickets so a lot of animals were put away but cool day so the rest of the big cats were active.
Kim “NurseKim”
Definitely has changed. Not as gross as it was back in the day.
Fully Digital ticketing including parking.
Food from the outside is allowed in!
You might want to bring a wawa sandwich because the food in the zoo is so expensive! $10 chicken sandwich & they don’t even have mayo?!
Many of the animals and exhibits were not available when I went on a Sunday in August. No penguins at all☹️
The animals seem depressed to me. Especially the primates. I feel like they are not being challenged and/ or stimulated enough mentally. They moved where they could be seen the least. Then just sat there & hid. As if they didn’t appreciate being on display! I felt bad for them.
There was no family entertainment or shows like one would expect for the ticket price. It’s definitely worth it to pay up for the membership. Only because it’s just a few bucks more & then you can visit again any time throughout the year for free.
Zoo has improved. However it’s got a long way to go in order to justify those high ticket prices! STEP IT UP PHILLY ZOO!

We visited the zoo on Saturday 4/16/2022 and we noticed that the tiger was pacing and pawing at the metal doors trying to get inside . You can tell she was hot and had her mouth open pacing everywhere and walking in circles. She also seemed skinny. I don’t know if tiger had water but I can only imagine the summer heat how Miserable it will be.
We noticed the red panda was also hot and pacing with the mouth open.
Her
LumiNature was Beautiful!!
The lights were gorgeous, the entertainment was amazing. I truly enjoyed my night with friends.
Raul Vega
Beautiful place to spend the day. I haven't been here in years and it looks amazing now. Take a day.
Donald Hower
You owe it to yourself to see all of the animals and exhibits in this zoo! It was really well designed. I bet it's even more fun during the summer time!
Melody Self- mell
Parking is kinda far, be prepared for ALOT of WALKING, but once in the zoo its great. This zoo is perfect for small children, the petting zoo area was great, and there is really alot to see.
Lisa Diee
Zoo was nice and clean. Enjoyed Cat Walk and Water is Life exhibits. Also Primates. But in Water is Life, the water slide was blocked off so Otters couldn't go down. We enjoyed watching them in waterfall though. The day we went it was very hot and zoo is big so did alot of walking. Zoo is terrible to navigate. It's like a maze and there are barely any signs so we wasted alot of time getting lost and looking at online map trying to make sense. Overall it was nice time.

After living in Philly for more than 2 years, my boyfriend and I finally made the trip to the oldest zoo in the U.S.!
It was pretty hot (91°F) the day we went and many of the animals in the open exhibits were active and out! We loved the indoor exhibit with the the marmosets/tiny monkeys, as well as the reptile/amphibians exhibit (my boyfriend and I always race to see who can spot the creature first). My favorite exhibit was the petting zoo—there's a huge goat there named Breezy (?) that's super chill and sweet.
Part of me really wants to give this zoo 3 stars since many of the exhibits were closed when we visited (it feels like we missed out on 30-40% of what used to be accessible). With the zoo admission and parking totalling ~$67 for 2 adults, we wanted to see more. We spent about 1.75 hours going through the exhibits at a slow pace. Another complaint is that many of the exhibits only showed 1 animal of each type (cheetah, tiger, hippo, boar, and red panda exhibits). I couldn't help but feel that some of the animals were lonely... Still, I wanted to give this place as high of a rating as I could justify so the zoo gets more visitors/adequate funding for the proper care of the animals.
Overall, Philly Zoo isn't the best zoo in the U.S., but the healthy conditions of the animals do show they are being well cared for. Every animal we saw seemed to be well cared for and the environments were very clean. I'd like to see more companions for many of the animals, and look forward to some of the reopening of some of the exhibits the next time we visit!
Ernesto Tagwerker
My kids love going to the zoo. Everyone was wearing masks indoors and there are clear signs everywhere.
The gibbons were especially playful in the morning. During the summer I'd highly recommend you visit in the morning. There's plenty of shade at the zoo, but it's cooler in the morning...
Erica Gregory
We had so much fun. I haven't been to the zoo in many years. Great experience
DJ Jaybird
Great time, had to make an appointment but was still busy.. the food could be improved but the animals were really nice to see and most of them were in really good moods..
Ruth R
Weather was good, prices for food and drinks (and souvenirs) are high so bring your own water and snacks. Lots of animals but many were hidden midday. Helpful, knowledgable staff.
Shay Cox
Because there is avian flu on the east coast, all the birds were away 😔 and a lot of the animals were sleeping lol but it was still a good time.
Oni Galarza (Onikazejin)
Had the opportunity to visit the Philadelphia zoo on Saturday with My Wife, it was an event funded by Health Partners Plan. We got to enter the zoo for free & spend the day free of charge. There was a scavenger hunt, & a raffle. I saw and took lots of pictures of the Animals. Staff were pleasant, friendly and respectful. We had a great time. Looking forward to our next visit. Maybe next time we'll see more Animals...

We went for a work event after Zoo hours. Most of the animals were asleep or put away but we had fun.
KD Tobias
The kids loved it! Most of the animals were out and parking was easy. Highly recommend for children. However, the birds are not out due to the avian flu.
Savanna Conlin
Took our almost 1 year old for her first zoo experience. I am slightly disappointed as I felt there were no animals to see. Saw no big cats. Lots of animals pacing in their exhibit which just made me cry. I don’t remember the Philadelphia Zoo being this way 😞
Darren Silinski
This is the oldest Zoo in the nation, and as such it had a wide range of animals and exhibits to see. It's a fun time to spend a day at and will entertain children and adults alike. They have a goat petting zoo where kids can pet kids (ha, get it? Goats are kids) at no additional charge.
The only thing that seemed to be lacking was the amenities. It didn't seem to have a lot of food options and it would have been nice to have a family bathroom for changing diapers or allowing my wife to breastfeed more comfortably. But other than that it was a fun time!
Elizabeth Yordy
First time to the Luminature at the Philadelphia Zoo as it had lots of lights and did get me into a festival feeling I have experienced better out there, I’m not at all displeased by my experience but not 5 star worthy. The food trucks were a great touch as they had treats and finger food, I personally tried the s’mores cone cause who doesn’t like s’mores, it was delicious. The light displays where very original and nothing you would see anywhere else definitely enjoyed it so hope you feel the same. Enjoy!
Megan Clifford
Very nice layout, the zoo360 thing is cool. Weather wasn’t great so animals weren’t super active but we got to see tigers/lions/jaguars up close.
Tracey-Lynn Williams (Tray)
1st trip of the school year and it was great! We enjoyed seeing the animal and visiting the gift shop!❤
Naomi Koski
This is the best Zoo I've ever been to !!! The habitats were clean and large enough for the animals to play but small enough for us to be able to view at least one animal. The Zoo 360 climbing courses for the primates and big cats were amazing ! I wish every zoo gave their animals an opportunity to explore the world a bit more.
The employees were kind, answered questions, and helped us spot the animals that we couldn't see ourselves.
Also, they have animals I haven't seen anywhere else. Aye-aye's, 3 types of lemurs, and hippos were the ones I've never seen anywhere else! The giant otter was my favorite.
My favorite guest feature was the braille writing along with a tactile animal shape. Blind people are often ignored in situations like this, so I appreciated the inclusivity.
I definitely recommend this zoo to ANYONE looking for a great informative experience.
Bruce Chaput
Great zoo. You can hit most of it by going around the edges either clockwise or counterclockwise. Note, many of the bird exhibits are currently closed to protect the birds from bird flu.
Dan Carroll
A lot of the animals were missing (not sure why) however it's worth the visit for the few you do see, especially when there's a cool dinosaur exhibit at the zoo! The many empty cages/areas could have been temp-- maybe they were getting covid shots! 💉 Though would of preferred if I knew before hand. Anyway great experience overall if you have kids.
Alli
We loved the dinosaur exhibit! So cool and huge! The entire zoo is well maintained. They have an indoor play and exploration area for young ones. They also have a fun petting area where you go in with the goats to feed them. You can visit this place over and over. Fun for the young and old. Very big.
James Smith
We love boo day at the zoo. We go every year. It's always a great time dressing up, trick or treating through the zoo and enjoying looking at the animals. Great family fun 😀 …
Hilary Reilly
I became a sustaining member I loved the zoo so much! Parking is free for members, but $16 for visitors.
Sarah White
An absolutely fantastic zoo! Fun for children and adults with lots of interactive videos and huge exhibits for the animals. With such a wide variety, you could easily spend 2-4 hours here depending on speed. When I went, the birds were still put away because of the flu, but there’s still plenty of other sights to see!
Kristin Brown
My family had a wonderful time! Many exhibits were closed due to covid, which is unfortunate. Staff was friendly and food was expensive but surprisingly fresh and good.
Tara Brown Beauty
I've been coming to this zoo for 37 years now. I love it, it's such a great day out with the family!
Brittany Mackey
Me and my 6 year old went to the ZOO for Halloween it was great. They have a
Dinosaur Exhibi; its awesome the dinosaurs move and make sounds.
David Rodriguez
Such a wonderful time. So much to do and was bit packed we paid for parking and did not need to cause no one checked our parking ticket but I guess better safe than sorry
Lee Stephens (Piper)
The zoo was so much bigger than I expected! I had a lot of fun even if my feet did hurt at the end of it all ❤️
laura greenspan
What an amazing zoo! I love all the tunnel systems for so many types of animals. Beautiful big exhibits for all the animals. Highly recommended going to this amazing zoo!
Arielle
We love going to the Philadelphia zoo. My son has been excited to go each time. He loves looking at the monkeys and the indoor animal areas. I went when I was young so it’s exciting to bring my own children there.
Craig R
Pleasant walk through lots of lights. Only Alpacas as far as animals that you can see.
M_ M
Always a great experience at America's first Zoo! One of my personal favorite zoos and places to visit in the city. The historic feel remains amongst the ever changing animal enclosures like the cat walk letting tigers roam the zoo from above. Theres food, rides, a petting zoo, inside and outside exhibits, live animal demonstrations and seasonal events. I've had a membership for over 5 years and I still get excited to visit. If you live in the area this is a must see
Audrey “Theaudestcooper” Cooper
Surprisingly packed with tons of enclosures, with a clear focus on creature wellbeing and dynamic interaction with guests. From the first exhibits and the variety of supported species to the beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere, this is more than your average zoo experience. My favorite elements were the little exhibits of protected species in the front, the huge pool and diving penguins, and watching large primates interact with their families.
The setting made the experience so much more enjoyable, with lush and fragrant trees and shrubs, meandering paths, and unique shops and cafes along the way. Definitely a lovely place, and a wonderful oasis in the city.
GUADALUPE PZ
Magnificent place although there were many lights that melted but very magical the place at night🤎 …
Dennis Smith
Always a fun visit, staff is always friendly and the feed the giraffe experience was amazing.
Chelsea Mullin
We went to the zoo on a slow, rainy Saturday. We were the only people in the reptile house, and Annie basically gave our group of four a private tour. She answered our questions, told us about the animals' personalities, and showed us pictures. She showed us where to find those who have favorite hiding spots. Annie was so awesome, I really can't talk her up enough. She's really cool and super personable. You can tell she really loves the animals and is passionate about education. She's a real asset to this zoo. Thank you, Annie!
Robert Short
Great historic zoo. Although some things were closed due to COVID-19, most animals were accessible and they seem to be in very well maintained habitats.
FAB YOUTH PHILLY
We LOVE the Philadelphia Zoo! The staff is friendly and helpful and the exhibits are beautiful. We especially love the Luminature Event in the Winter.
Jennifer Liddle
Excellent Zoo. Easy to navigate, great for children and adults alike. We did a kid-led scavenger hunt and it was fun and interactive. Many sanitization stations in the zoo and a lot of places where you can fill a water bottle with filtered water, which was 100% appreciated on a hot day like today. A few of the interactive things were closed, but it just gives us something to look forward to on a future visit.
This zoo has a great variety of animals and they are all visually accessible, often from multiple viewpoints. Don't miss the penguins - they seem to like to interact with the visitors though their glass tank!
We also visited the Dinosaur exhibit - it was very interesting with many of the dinos being animatronic. Fun to walk around inside the outdoor exhibit.
The only disappointment was the gift shop - 80% overpriced stuffed animals and a few other items such as shirts. Not many things at a low price point for children to buy for themselves.
We were staying in Rittenhouse Square and took a Lyft to the zoo. It was quick and convenient to not have to deal with parking!
Tracy
10/10, would visit again for the red pandas and goats (Parker is one of my favorites).
Rick Marshall
First time visiting this zoo, and neither the crowds nor the parking were too bad when we got there early on a Saturday morning. The exhibits are nice and run throughout the space, with various animals climbing around and over the main walking areas. The dinosaur exhibit is fun for kids, but a bit small. The indoor exhibits are nice and well organized, but one big issue is that the staff is non-existent throughout much of the zoo. Indoor areas where masks are required are crowded with people ignoring the mask rules (particularly on hot days), and no one is enforcing the rules. If you have COVID concerns, the zoo's indoor exhibits are a nightmare.
Nini Kaur
Bought tickets online; even though we were early for our entry time they let us though the gates. It is qute a walk through the exhibits. None of the birds were out because of the Avian flu. Most of the animals seemed tired; bored or napping by midday. We still enjoyed the giraffes; rhinos; leopard and tiger. The exhibits that were indoors like amphibians and reptiles, those were super crowded. Overall the kids enjoyed the zoo and relaxed with some dipping dots icecreams. Ample seating through the zoo!! We took uber in and out and was easy at the entrance.
James Buterbaugh
It’s a great zoo. It’s huge. The only bad thing I can say is the parking situation… even if you’re a member (like myself)
I still had to park about a 10-15 minute walk away.
I also wish they had an employee speaking about different sections and different animals. But it’s a gigantic zoo. They have so many different sections. The reptile and snakes exhibit was pretty cool.
Damarise
It wasn't packed which was great . It was just my husband and I. Even though some habits were empty we had a great experience It was my husband's first time.
Charlene Alexandra Cogollo
What a wonderful time! The zoo was gorgeous, clean, the staff was so sweet and took their time to explain things to us. The bird area was amazing, despite the fact we cannot pet or feed them at this time. It made my first time in a zoo such a great experience. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!
WASSIM HAWIL
Very nice place, Saw a lot of animals, like lions, tiger and etc
Heather B
We love the Philly zoo! Lots of varieties of animals and there's always something to see. Food (for zoo) is good and not egregiously expensive. They have beer and wine as well which is always welcome, especially on hotter days.
Bernice G
It was an awesome experience the kids loved it only thing it was a rainy day. We will definitely be going to visit again the kids enjoyed it.
Katykool65 Kool
Very clean, animals healthy, face painting, activities, rest area seating throughout for grandmother's! Lol
Harry G
Easy to navigate with clear signs, 4 hours should be good enough to complete entire tour.
Perfect for the kids, it has a separate area with goats and sheeps for kids to touch them(little crowded here). Rare exhibits like gorilla.. this is rare to find and they have 7 of them(with silver back male). They have Giraffee, Hippo, Rhino, Zebra. Only 1 cheetah and no tigers or lions or elephants(little dissapointed) but please take a membership and support the wild. Parking is included otherwise its 17$
Katie Griffin
Took the family to see all the animals. Walked the Zoo for awhile only to find most if not all animals were either not in their enclosure or they were a sleep and not moving. Have to admit we were disappointed that they had no elephants. Weather was great and not humid so we were surprised to see minimal movement from the animals. A few places in the zoo were overgrown and not maintained. I think Covid really took a toll on the beauty of the zoo and staff as even they seemed short on staff. Overall I would still go back in hopes it would be a better day for the animals
Eduardo Davila
I’ve been to several zoos across the country so it’s hard to impress me in the category. I’ve been to the San Diego zoo and that has blown every other out of the water; however, for the size of this zoo, it was an overall good experience. My family definitely enjoyed themselves. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.
Tayiah Saktoe
My first experience at the Philadelphia Zoo was a great one. My favorite exhibit was the Rare Reptiles, I really enjoyed the Komodo Dragon. In observing the Komodo Dragon it appeared to be big and calm, I also loved the way the dragon looked. Another exhibit that I enjoyed was the PECO PRIMATE RESERVE because of the different primates and habitats. Overall my trip to the zoo was eventful, but there are just some things that disappointed me. I noticed the conditions of some of the exhibits, which were unsanitary and not kept up which left me sad. Also a lot of the exhibits did not have animals in it. I hope to go back soon and i look forward to better conditions.
Ed Diez
It's worth going to but due to covid several of the exhibits are closed. With that in mind I feel like the ticket price should reflect that in form of a discount. Seeing all the open attractions (minus the dinosaur section) we were done in about 1.5 hrs.
Thai Pham
The boo festivities were nice however the animals didn’t cooperate today. Overall still a great experience. The setup is a little strange , lots of walking around but honestly great place for kids. Bring them and have a good time. Just don’t expect to find a unicorn, they don’t exist
Lisa Hutchins
My family had a wonderful time at the zoo! They really take pride in their animals, you can tell by how well they are always cleaning everything. The tanks are really assembled nicely to each animals needs. My favorite part was watching the penguins swim. The only animal we didn't get to see that we really wanted to was the Red Pandas, they were either missing or hiding.
Danny Oi
Maybe because it was cool outside. Most of the animals were resting. I really wanted to see the orangutans but they were just laying around in there beds. The youngest Red Panda was running around being funny and cute. So was the giant river otter being loud. I could just see the snow leopard and that was really cool to see one in person. All in all it was cool but I was expecting more,🤷♂️
Mimi Coffey
Experience was nice overall, lots of interesting animals and expansive space. A lot of the indoor areas were closed because of the pandemic, so we didn't have a lot of chances to get a break from the heat.
wilbur ward
It was nice bring the kids. It was a late date night for me.
Levone Cannady
I mean, the moment you look at the place, you are witnessing history! It is America's first zoo, and it lived up to the name! Everything seems to have been uniquely designed and it is rich in architecture throughout the facility. It is very large, bring your walking shoes! There are plenty of places to sit and catch your breath. The zoo is littered with activities for the family and they also have time slots where you can meet zoo keepers and learn about the animals. It does suck they had to take away the zoo balloon and the train that gave you an aerial tour of the zoo, but those were just cherries on top of an already amazing experience.
Ellie Whitt
This zoo is an absolute delight. There are a number of lovely exhibits, parking is convenient, and the park is very well maintained. The big cats exhibit was lovely, and the reptile house was very well done.
There are very few vegetarian food options at the concessions, so if you want anything other than a $12 black bean burger (the same Morningstar Farms burgers that are at Costco), you may want to pack a picnic.
Dr. Devraj Hira
Oldest zoo in the country. Amazing experience. Advance reservation is hassle free.
Brian Wood
Family friendly zoo, great variety of animals and plenty of options for food inside the zoo
Mike Hunt
I had a good time. Most of the animals were visible.
Adam
So much to see and do! My only complaint is they shut down immediately at 5; we were in line to feed the animals at the petting zoo only to be turned away after waiting.
Nathan Choler
I don't know what it is about this zoo, and I love zoos, but this one is just underwhelming to me. We've visited twice to break up trips out east and both times I left not unhappy, because zoo's are awesome, but without anything spectacular to point out. The cages for the animals to walk above people are awesome and that it's a pretty logically laid out zoo is a plus, so it's really hard for me to say anything bad, I guess we've just had bad luck when we've come here. I wouldn't be adverse to coming here again if we came back to Philly, but wouldn't plan a trip around this zoo.
dsm619
We had a great time even though some of the exhibits were closed due to COVID-19. You can spend a few hours here. We went on a Sunday, it was 90 degrees most of the animals were hiding in the shade.
Tish Garcia
Nice zoo. I bought the membership that includes the parking an I'm able to bring a guest. It's reasonable. The parking by the gate is the best. If you walk from covered parking It's a nightmare.
Would prefer that the Ballon could come back. The hours could be longer. Wish the birds were out, but they worry about the avian flu.
Hispaniola 1804
I went to the zoo with my wive and daughters and only completed about 1/2 of the map. There were so many attractions to see. My daughters enjoyed face painting, me and the wife did caricature and were impressed. We discontinued the visit that day due heavy rain, but at least we got to see the dinosaurs; OMG that was amazing… This is a must see
Lawrence haliday
We surprised my 5 year old with a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. She had been asking for weeks to go off we went to her surprise! Mid week trip was pleasant not crowded at all. Unfortunately some of the animals seemed to hibernating but overall it was an amazing day! Great family time and family moments.
Lucy Horst
Truly amazing zoo. Huge, plenty of space to walk around with a stroller, good food and awesome exhibits. Also nice to have air conditioned areas to beat the heat from time to time. We were visiting from out of town and it’s a must!
Christian Jenkins
I loved coming here as a kid and I still enjoy it now taking my daughter here. I just wonder are they ever going to reopen that bird house exhibit? Even if it’s not open you will have a great time here for sure.
K. Nguyen
The zoo has plenty of parking all the time that we went. There's a good number of exhibits throughout the zoo. We got the family deluxe membership and it provides good value with free parking and attractions credit. The zoo change the benefits on us though so if you're thinking of buying the package, beware that your benefits can be cut at any time without notice.

Enjoying family & colleagues @ CHOP's CHEERs TO YOU at the Philly ZOO - 2022 💞💕💞
Rahil B
It’s a fun place for a day, definitely recommend for the kids, there are a lot of animals, I wish they had crocodile, elephants, rhinos. Zoo majorly has different species of Monkey and birds. Most interesting was seeing apes and big cats
Lisa S
The Philadelphia Zoo is a nice zoo. It is clean, and had a lot of exhibits to see. The animal variety and ability to see them was good. A few exhibits were closed, but most were open for viewing. We enjoyed looing at the animals, and also checked out the big time dinosaur exhibit. The dinosaur exhibit was cute. Not very big. Interesting to see the life sized dinosaurs. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and would come again.
Cons of the day:
The $23 price for the tickets into the zoo didn't bother me too much, but $17 parking on top of ticket price seems like price gauging. They also do not guarantee you a parking space, so if the small lot is full you are out of luck. The food and gift shop prices were also really high. These are some things to consider if you visit.
Nate Battle
Philadelphia zoo is large takes about 2.5 hours with a toddler, it will probably take longer with older kids.
Nay melendez
1st time visiting the Philadelphia Zoo. Some of the animals weren’t active or sleeping but I got a chance to feed a Giraffe
Mark Fielding
Had a great time at the zoo definitely will be back
Erica Chavis
I love the zoo. Nice educational place for the children, Do not get a cheesesteak from PRESSURE ITS A FOOD TRUCK LOCATED IN THE ZOO , 13.50 For minute steak in between two pieces of toast!!!! Other then that it was a Great time
Sarah Freeman
I came here once in 5th grade and haven't been down this way in quite some time. However I had the opportunity to take my brother here in 2019 and of course it had to rain so the animals were hunkered down. Despite the weather, we had a good. We ended up visiting a couple other places and it was all together an enjoyable day.
N P
We were so excited to visit with our 2-year old and wanted to love it.. but the experience was very underwhelming.
I may be spoiled by other zoos, but at minimum was expecting trail markers, exhibit info, and healthy looking animals.
It was impossible to navigate - you just wander blindly along the meandering trails with no idea where you're going, often finding yourself at an abrupt dead-end having to backtrack.
Many exhibits were empty (understandable because animals are unpredictable), but there were no signs and most hands-on experiences were simply abandoned.
The gift shop and food prices were unsurprisingly high ($10 for a sticker, $5 for a drink), and lines were 20+ people deep. Bathrooms were unpleasantly dirty. ALL extras (like feeding ducks) were cash only (marked by a small sign only visible when you reach the front of the incredibly long line.
On the plus side, the staff were very friendly.
Ethelynn Hougen
Great place for a family with all ages. We had a lovely day with 3 kids, 4 adults, and 2 grandparents. The weather was perfect and the animals posed nicely for us. 😀
Food? ... typical ... not very good and expensive.
Two Wishes...Senior rate tickets, and motorized carts more reasonably priced. We needed two...pricey. Longwood Gardens are "pay what you wish".
Amber Culp
Fun for the whole family! Wheelchair accessible and you can even rent one or a stroller for the little ones. Will have to reserve times tickets online before going, I recommend going early because the parking lot and garage fill up fast! You are able to pack your own lunch/snacks however there are plenty of places to grab something to eat. Although all of the exhibits aren't open, there's still plenty to do and see!
Ande velasquez
There were many animals and but some animals weren't on display some improvement like more water stands
Kenneth Kondash
Great day spent. Zoo was very clean and the new dinosaur exhibit was really cool and is great for kids. Very easy to navigate. Some exhibits were not open due to Covid.
Mike Patterson
Fully immersed animals around the whole experience with tigers walking above visitors in a caged enclosure. Walking from one section of the zoo to others - right over our heads!
Also, park workers talking into PA systems providing useful information abt each exhibit.
Only thing I'd recommend could use some work is the parking situation, necessitating walking on city blocks to access the zoo entrance.
Brian Anderson
Many of the buildings were still closed for social distancing purposes. The grounds were clean and well maintained. Several enclosures were empty, but the animals that were on display seemed to be healthy and had lots of room.
A U
It was fun and educational. The kids enjoyed it. The animals looked healthy and well cared for. My only disappointment was the strange gift shop hours inside the park, and the inability to take a stroller inside a gift shop.
Erika Rose
Nice zoo. My son especially loved the Big Time dinosaurs!! You have to pay an extra fee to enter but it's worth it. Just make sure you book those tickets way in advance as they tend to sell out fast!
Cameron
Stopped here for the kids on the way back up from vacation, and I must say I was impressed. Maybe it’s because the last couple of places we’ve visited are still partially shut down from Covid, but the Zoo was wide open. Friendly environment and the tickets are reasonable for the amount you can see in one day. Could be a little cleaner, but it is a ZOO after all! Lol
Rob Neitham
Overall not so bad to take family and kids. Its in the city of Philadelphia, seeing animals can be educational and learning for kids. I took my wife and 8 years old recently, we loved. We wish that they have more variety, more animals in this place.
Od Staples
Loved it here! the animals were amazing and thank God their were plenty of filtered water fountains! The staff was great as well, really good experience!
GR Wentling
We visited the zoo for some Holiday fun. Well done.
Donna Clay-Abernathy
Neat zoo. They have these tunnels overhead for the animals to climb through. They had a temporary dinosaur exhibit. My son [5] enjoyed his visit.
Cons: there are a lot of overgrown areas with very tall grass weeds etc along walking paths.
One of the bears seemed distressed pacing very nervous back and forth along a small area of the exhibit.
You are only allowed to shop 10 min in gift shop
Most of indoor exhibits are still closed due to covid.
Sarah Walker
Very neat and fun zoo! I love that it is so close to the city, but you can't even tell. It is very tidy, and the staff are wonderful. Can't wait to come back when all the exhibits are open again!
J Habecker
Another wonderful visit! The kids had a blast seeing all the animals. I appreciate how everyone respectfully wears a mask to keep our germs to ourselves.
I love that most of the indoor viewing areas have opened back up. It was our first time to see the monkeys, gorillas and lions. Lots of animals to see and quite a few food places were open for business as well.
Tina Manasra
The zoo was an okay experience. I went for an employer hosting a small event here. Large variety of animals but many animals were pacing around their cages (not a good sign for captive animals). Some staff members are friendly and helpful, but many seem bitter and unwilling to help. As for the food, think the quality of a frozen dinner, but with frozen dinners actually being much better. May return when I'm in the area. Probably won't though
Maisha Richardson
My family and I love the Philadelphia Zoo. There are so many animals to see and it’s a great day trip for the little ones. Stroller highly recommended!! The adult beer garden is also an added bonus.
Cory Stranzl
Been to this zoo many times. I really enjoy it. Being a dad and getting to take my kids here now is really awesome as well. Lots of variety of animals. Exhibits bloom nice and we'll maintained. Price is a bit much imo but what can you do. Will be back.
This is about the big time thing they have currently. It's pretty cool. Some really impressive dinos. Only thing is I thought they would all be dinos, my son LOVES dinos, but they turn into mammals and stuff as the exhibit goes on.
Josh Edwards
We went on a cloudy day, which turned out to be the perfect weather. The animals were out and about rather than hiding in the shade. There was a bit of a wait for Big Cat Falls, but it was definitely worth it.
Niki Wills
I visited the Philadelphia Zoo in the beginning of September. We got to meet Don from food services! He was wonderful! He told us about the exhibits and about the events the zoo holds. We loved the zoo but meeting Don and getting the opportunity to chat with him made our trip 100x better!
Rebecca DiBartolomeo
They've done a great job balancing social distancing and viewing the enclosures. For 2022 the avian flu means that bird exhibits and water features are diminished. All of the big cat falls is back in full and they are building a flower garden.
Ludovic MASSON
It is a really good zoo !! I recommend it !
Due to the flu, all the birds were inside and we were not able to see them.
Quay Carter
Great Family time out there with my Fiance, Daughter and my 3 grandsons. Awesome Day out. Beautiful skies as well. Just very humid.
Debrah DiCenso
This is an awesome and inexpensive zoo. It is functioning at 50% capacity right now so it isn't over crowded. Plenty of animal exhibits and nature to enjoy. The zoo has a nice, casual layout where you feel like you're just strolling through a park with exotic animals.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be returning soon. Very Covid-19 compliant and secure parking, no worries.
Nerita H.
Definitely recommend visiting this zoo! They offer cool scavenger hunt which kept my boys engaged. The highlight was feeding the giraffe! They have food options and lots for the kids to do!
Pantelis Galatoulas
Seemed a bit drab and in dismay. A lot of the exhibits were still closed and also a lot of the concessions were closed. In relation to the other zoos I’ve visited this was near the worst. It was over crowded, no social distancing in place whatsoever, people were free to do as they pleased. They also don’t mention that the majority of restrooms are closed and only have 1 pre entrance and 1 in the rear of the park. The animals that were out was a nice time but about half of the park was empty in that regard.
Jimmy Anwar
The zoo itself was nice, there were plenty of signs and directions to different exhibits and animals.
Only negative was the parking lots were far, make sure to drop of kids and elderly at the front entrance. It was a long hike from parking to the entrance, they should provide shuttle service.
Ibrahim
I was there yesterday on 2/20th, and I didn't really enjoy it 100% due to the snow and the winter trip ain't good idea. 90% of animals weren't out. But I'll definitely come back in Spring, zookeepers said best time spring not hot summer
Fran Himes
Took the grandkids for the afternoon. The animals were well exhibited, meaning you could see them without feeling like you were intruding on them. Kids got to feed the giraffes, which was a genuine thrill for them. Park was clean, signage easy to understand. However, beware, food is outrageously priced. 2 hotdogs, 1 cup of mac and cheese, and 1 can of water cost $41.
Hong Hanh Dinh
Pretty big zoo! I like the primate exhibition. They have a variety of different monkeys. The flamingos were pretty sassy. The animals seem to have a spacious habitat so I'm happy about that. The only thing I would say need improvement were the vending machines. Almost every vending machine we tried were almost always out of order. Since the weather was really hot that day, any vending machine with cold drinks or ice cream would have really helped!
Chetram Chinapana
Nice and spacious with thought out exhibits. Very family friendly!
Ilene Roberts
Went to the Luminature light display again. Enjoyable stroll through the lighted scenery. A bit expensive even at member pricing, but they do offer weekday specials. All in all an enjoyable, relaxing evening!
Happy Holidays to all☃️
Lorinda John
The weather was a perfect 72°, in zoo terms this means ideal visiting😁 You do need to schedule your visit along with the big time and note the bathrooms are closed. …
Lynn K.W.C.
The Philadelphia Zoo is always a great place to explore. The animals are amazing and the staff is very knowledgeable and ready to assist in any way they can. Due to the pandemic quite a few of the indoor exhibits are still closed, however there's still lots to see, like the dinosaur experience. The young and older alike will love being amazed by these life sized creatures with movement and sound. Be advised at this time reservations are required and very easy to obtain online. The Zoo's food courts and gift shops are open, and the parking is 17 dollars.
Gen Gomez
Very nice zoo. Some exhibits are closed but they still have so much to do! Masks are only required in the "in door" exhibits and they have hand sanitizer sanctions scattered around. Make sure you look online at their map before buying tickets to know which areas are open and which are closed.
Meagan Higgins
LUMINATURE @ THE PHILADELPHIA ZOO! it was nice walking around seeing the lights. Tickets are about $28 online & $17 to park unless your a philly zoo member then parking is free. They had hot chocolate & small bite stations set up. I LOVED the pink flamingo tree! 🦩🌲 …
Sage Magness-Hill
We had such a delightful day at the Philly Zoo. We took a day trip up from Baltimore and it didn’t disappoint! All the animals were out and some came right up to where we were watching. Some parts are closed because of COVID, but that didn’t detract from the fun. Will definitely come back!!
Joanne Reilly
The Zoo has changed so much over the years but I still love it! There aren't as many animals as in the past but the ones there looked healthy and clean. The park was very clean except where they serve food to humans. Do not eat there! The food was horrible, way over priced, the restaurant and food prep area was downright filthy, the wait to order and received food was just ridiculous and the staff just didn't care. Eat before you go or bring a snack!
Yvonne Ratiu
I loved the Philadelphia Zoo, I have never been so close to Animals. I loved the Lemonade and coming from Detroit,I will be back and It was worth every penny.
Thank you for the workers there, They were happy, it was a hot day but the breeze was beautiful.
Jennifer
This zoo is really small. I think it took me longer to drive to it than to actually walk around it.
R Shark
Can't complain when you get to see animals but you can tell the zoo is understaffed still. Still an awesome place to visit though.
Oluwafemi Mora
Very nice day at the zoo, animals seems to be well taken care of. We enjoyed the dinosaur 🦕 expo. Not to many people. Sanitizer and sanitizing wipes through the zoo. Cdc guidance are put in place. …
Aletheia
Really educational exhibits, happy animals (that actually move around where you can see them), plenty of restrooms and seating areas, and staff that are happy to share their knowledge.
We really liked the scheduled times for COVID. We didn't do any of the enclosed exhibits but saw a ton outside.
The food and drink prices inside are reasonable or you can bring your own food. They also have strollers available for rent ($10).
I do wish they had some misters or some water the kids could get into on a hot day (maybe just closed for COVID?) But other than that this is a great way to spend the day.
Carole
Many areas were closed. Nobody followed the 6ft. rule. I bought a cheeseburger, cold fries & a coke for 19.99, so eat before you come or bring your own lunch. There is an area where you can eat your own food. The dinosaur exhibit was disappointing even to a 5 year old boy.
Holly Jackson
Had a wonderful time at the zoo. Our daughter had a great day, loved seeing all the animals and especially the Dinosaurs ☺
Johnny L
Rocky’s city. Rocky’s zoo. It’s a nice size zoo.
EarthAngel De
We came for the dinosaurs just to find out we were a few weeks too early. Most of the large animals were not out! All employees wore masks and required for us to as well. The kids had fun but we really wanted to see the dinosaurs, and the website was not clear about the start date. I tried calling the zoo to confirm but no answer. We took a chance and paid the entrance fee just to find, No dinosaurs. No refunds offered!
N. O.
Always a great time and experience. Love the entire place and venue. Very worthwhile to get the family deluxe membership. Look for a deal each year on Black Friday.
Wraith 6668
Awesome time. Went during Boo at the Zoo. My 5yr old had a great time trick or treating at the different areas and seeing his favorite animals.
Ken Himsel
Awesome Zoo. Still one of the best in the U.S.
Admission was limited to keep down crowding in Covid Times and staff were on their A game.
Felt safe, comfortable and welcome the entire day.
yonathan velazquez
I just don't understand why in 12\17\2022 the security guard in the front door allowed my entrance telling me, I would don't have problems staying inside, and after 1 hour one employee was inviting me to go out. Probably I'm wrong, but I saw the male gorilla and lions a little bit skinny.
Tracy Bowman
The zoo was fun kids loved it and the staffs were very nice . We all had a good time
D Ro
Great zoo! Lots of animals, friendly staff, and clean facilities. Some of the animals were hiding due to the weather during my visit, but still had a lot of fun!
Brandon McGregor
Went on a Sunday recently and crowd control was very well managed. Lots of Covid-19 protocols in place making it safe for all. However these protocols have the majority of inside attractions closed. Most of the food places are also closed, 4 or 5 areas open and lines for food weren't terrible. Some exhibits are closed mainly due to weather, once it warms up more they are to open. Very clean and well marked. We bought season passes and plan to go many more times before Fall. Highly recommend especially to see the tiger, she is beautiful! The kids had a blast! Only one gift shop open so plan to wait for an extended period of time for souvenirs.
Robert Feenan
Trying their best to make a visit as enjoyable as they can during the Covid times. A few buildings were closed, but others were open. Two bathrooms open, and a hand full of places to eat. Beautiful day when we visited.
Andrea Hughes
This was an absolutely beautiful outing. The staff handled the COVID rules perfectly. There were a few parents that were non-compliant, but that wasn't surprising. Great Day.
Lori Roman
We went for Zoominature and it was great!!! Highly recommended!!!!
Tanya Lapushner
As of April 2021, all outdoor exhibits are open. A couple of indoor exhibits are still closed to the public. 2nd floor of the primates exhibit is also closed.
Sean Rutledge
Great zoo. Indoor exhibits are closed due to covid-19 now, but that's understandable. Still good for a few hours of walking and fresh air.
Joseph W
It’s the best zoo we ever visited! It has wild and interesting animals, and you don’t have to walk far to see each animal.
Shawn Leriche
Overall enjoyable! Smaller than the others we have visited, it was a fun day. We did this and adventure aquarium in a day, and it was great! We went in October, 2020 and without knowing part of the buildings and other exhibits were closed so that was a bit disappointing. We did still have fun though. A bit of a maze, so be sure to map check to see everything.
The lion exhibit is probably the best thing here. Literally of course with glass, the closest I've ever gotten to some of these animals.
Jazmin
The zoo was great I haven’t been in over 18 years and it is still amazing seeing the animals and watching the young ones faces light up
Jenna Jimenez
I love this zoo! I've been coming here ever since I was little and it's still always a great experience! The zoo is huge and they have a wide variety of animals that are well cared for.
Jer Loughran Sr.
Great for kids. Boo at the zoo was amazing for my 7 year old. He was so happy the next day after taking it all in. WEAR YOUR MASK AROUND THE TIGERS. DONT GET THEM SICK
Albert Lodato
Fantastic Christmas light show. Children age 1 to 90 will love it.
Ms. Jenn-adelphia
UPDATE: SEPTEMBER VISIT, DID THE NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT. PROBABLY WONT DO THAT AGAIN BECAUSE IT TAKES THE FOCUS AWAY FROM JUST ENJOYING THE ZOO. MANY ANIMALS ARENT THERE FROM MY YOUNGER YEARS BUT THEY'VE BEEN REPLACED WITH OTHER INTERESTING ANIMALS AND I JUST LOVE THE ZOO! I love the zoo! Always have, and Easter was always the day the whole family would meet up and spend the day there. I love the changes they have made, my only gripe would be the 360 view of the tigers. If u don't know where in that circle fence tunnel it walks thru, then being able to see it becomes slim. BUT- when u do catch a glimpse of the tiger, its a really cool thing to see.
Shehzad Mirza
Nice zoo. Quite a lot of animals. Unfortunately some of the indoor areas were closed (reptiles and birds).
Michele James
Love the Philadelphia Zoo! So nice when you get there early. So many animals and nice walking paths. Primates are my favorite.
anchored1
Field trip to the Zoo! We had a blast! The porcupines were being a little shy. Giraffe looking alive. The lion is made from Legos.
Dennis Jakubowski
Great experience! Clean, comfortable, great staff and the big cat walk ways are awesome! We watched a beautiful tiger pace 15' in the air above our heads.
Lakaisha LRG
As a parent raising children, and being the favor Auntie child expect to have fun 7days a week, the zoo was rewarding ❤️ 💖 the memberships are a whole yr long with guest pass, pack a lunch because this is the place to be on the regular bases if your raising children, my children are grown, my neices and nephews are as well everything there's a family gathering they brag about me bring them to the zoo, every weekend and utilizing the event calendar, facts
Marc
Nice park and many great exhibits and sights to see. A good amount of areas to sit and eat too. Easy to get too and the parking garage is convenient.
Jessica Brown
The kids loved the zoo. We had a good time, however some of the staff was less than friendly. I will go back, but I wish they were a little nicer.
Sam Tim
They could have the animals out there, did not see any bears, most was sleeping
Alicia Beattie
While I loved the zoo and the big time experience and I do understand covid precautions it was 80 degrees the very few stalls open had lines that was way to long and every vending machine was sold out it took me and my infant twins over two hours to be able to get water and I couldn’t even fill it in a sink because the water is hot and all bottle refills stations are closed so no water no ice cream no lemonade the least they can do is make sure you get water after spending so much
Samantha T
Went on a semi-rainy day and it was great- not crowded at all and all the animals were out! The big cat attraction is the best!! Also the primates there were pretty incredible
Instituto Puertorriqueño de Música
Great zoo: the animals and the layout. The staff is helpful and friendly. The education department and their staff are great and committed as the president of the zoo is.
Amanda Stanoch
No point of sale purchasing or paper maps (covid), many of the buildings and exhibits were closed. Layout is a little hard to follow so it's easy to miss sections.
S.M.
Surprinsingly nice zoo. Have to pay to get in but it's worth the money. Will visit again during my next visit.
Kate Powers
Gorgeous zoo. Always a lovely time strolling through here. Truly an ageless experience. Highly recommend visiting in the fall!
Martin P
Very impressed. Have been to many holiday light shows. This one is the best. Uber available too to ride back to the city.
LaTasha
We had a super duper fun time my children and I !! It was extra crowded but lines moved fast! Some exhibits were closed due to Covid19. That was ok tho! We even had the opportunity to go inside the dinosaurs exhibit super awesome!
Nastassja
My second time here and still had a blast. Although all of the indoor exhibits were closed and it was a cloudy day, all of the animals were out and about, which made this trip worthwhile. Masks were kept on the entire visit and everyone social distanced as asked. It was very pleasant and quiet and we just loved it!
denise keeny
Beautiful well maintained habitats. Limited visitors allows for proper social distancing and more time viewing the animals. We really enjoyed our visit!
Heidi Stufflet
Was great when I was a kid and still great now. Always a fun day...even in the rain. Wonderful zoo!
Mrudula Deore
Its the first zoo of the united states and I enjoyed my visit. Entry is $24 for adults and i was a little skeptical if it would be a good idea to take my parents here. But its a good spot even if you dont have little kids. The place is clean and you can see animals pretty closely. There are places to eat inside the zoo but plan to go early since the place closes at 5pm.
M Kolodij
Nice zoo with lots of overhead travel paths for the animals. Big Cats and Apes areas are open but other buildings like the reptile house are closed. Sadly couldn't get into the area with red pandas, clouded leopard and otters since they are vulnerable to covid. You need to get a reserved time ticket online for entry. People were following covid safety relatively well.
Royal Williams-Thompson
Very good experience. Exciting seeing the animals traverse over the top of zoo.. not confined to one space
Michael Baker
The zoo itself is well kept up with and the animals also seem to be very well taken care of. My only issue is I wish there was more space to walk and see the exhibits. The place gets very crowded and it makes it very hard to see the animals. People don’t take their turns viewing the animals and move on like they should to allow everyone equal chance to see everything. I know that would be impossible to do with the location so its merely a suggestion to make the zoo more enjoyable.
Justin Kozemchak
Gotta love the zoo. Place is great other than the price of food but what do you expect. They have hundreds of different animals to see. Don't forget it is also America's first zoo.
Tony Perez
Once again, I will rate the Philadelphia zoo as five stars! I have always enjoyed this zoo, and they have always done great things. but their approach to covid-19 is top-notch providing a great experience for families, especially Young kids. We have been going on average once a week for several months since the reopening and it is just so well done. My 2-year-old loves it, it's a wonderful environment to get out of the house, see the fantastic animals, and feel safe and secure knowing they've taken all proper precautions. Even with the indoor venues closed off, you don't feel slighted in the least. Thank you very much to all of the staff and management of the Philadelphia zoo. See you again soon.
Richie Rich
Great place for the kids and family time , the only thing it’s a bit expensive there so I would recommend bring your own snacks and drinks but overall great place to visit .
Mz. D N
The staff was very helpful and polite.
Mark Hubman
We have been members of the Philadelphia Zoo for years and have enjoyed our visits every time. They are requiring reservations and limiting the number of people in buildings at a time. Masks are required. But the animals are great, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and we always have a great time.
Steven
Not bad considering the other zoo's ive been to before . More on the high side of price to get in and parking if you use there parking area . All the animals seem very healthy and in gd shape . Not a bad assortment either . Spent 2 1/2 to 3 hours taking our time there . I didnt try any food there we ate plenty before we went in . Nice size zoo didnt realize it is Americas 1st zoo either pretty cool . Great weather there great atmosphere really not a bad place but for 2 adualts 1 child and parking did cost 83$ . No complaints it was worth it for 1 day out of maryland .
Gregory Baker
The zoo is normally hustle and bustle, there's so much to see and do.
Even with covid, this is a fun trip.
Be forewarned that now there are waits and lines to get through some of the exhibits and some things are closed off. The big cat had a half hour long line to get in, as did the primate house. The reptiles and bird were closed. There's limited food options.
Even with all the covid stuff, we spent 3.5 hours here and the kids loved it!
Abraham
There is an children area where you can play and touch animals
Marisela Hernandez
It's a big zoo with lots of animals to see, it's well kept and staff are great. I saw lots of animals awake and doing their thing, we didn't have to spend the whole day here to see all animals.
Eric Butler
This my first visit and I must say, it was a good one. Was a chilly chilly since me and the wife and kids went during November, but most of the exhibits were open. A few we're closed, bit mostly just the outdoor reptiles like the tortoises.
They have an impressive number of big cats and primates. Also, my son enjoyed petting the goats. I also have not seen such a large number snakes. Lots of venomous ones too just a pane of glass away.
I hope to visit again during spring/summer and see some more great things.
Manda Saurus
Such a great time visiting the animals at the zoo. I ended up getting a membership and can't wait to go back!
charne fielder
my kids and i had fun we was kinda upset we couldn't see all the animals due to things being closed due to covid-19 but overall we had a blast
Brian Opila
New exhibit coming late March 2021 at the the Philadelphia zoo! Some kind of walk through interactive experience with animatronic dinosaurs. It’s going in between the otters, cheetahs/bald eagles , beer garden & the birdhouse/picnic area.
Overall, the Philadelphia Zoo is one of the best places in Philadelphia. We’ve been coming here often for 4 years now. Always a fun time.
mani nair
Awesome place to spend a day. Different varieties of animals. Well maintained.
Broadway Pixels
Great place to see all different kind of animals and the events were amazing.
Odalis Gonzalez
It is a great place to go with the family. Clean and lots of animals to see.
Mike Hupka
A beautiful zoo with more enrichment for the animals than I've seen at other establishments. Always a great time.
Two Whimmin
The Philly Zoo is always a winner with the whole family. We definitely prefer to go when the weather's a bit cooler. In the heat of the summer, the Zoo tends to be overwhelmingly hot for us. The indoor spaces are air conditioned, so you will be able to get some relief. But the animals are more active as the weather cools. Be sure to check out the short movie about Otis in the aviary. The "kids" have seen it so many times they could probably recite the script; but as teenagers, they continue to enjoy the show. We always spend a significant amount of time in the primate building, watching the gorillas and the orangutans. There are so many parts of the Zoo that we love, it's impossible to talk about all of them. Go see for yourself... And let us know what your favorites are.
Albena Alexandrova
My kids love the place. Its clean. The animals look healthy and well taken care of.Nice way to spend the weekend with kids.
Francisco Perez
This place is amazing you can see many differents animals and you learn pass a good time in family
Gowri Nataraj
We had a wonderful time at the zoo. Lots of animals and birds to see.
Jes love
This zoo is beautiful and set up really well. We enjoyed our visit and will be looking forward to coming back. The big cats were amazing.
KGQ NYC
Beautifully arranged for maximum enjoyment. Lovely walking paths that make the zoo feel more like a park. Plenty of history as it is the first zoo in America. Indoor kids play area is fantastic but needs a sprucing up.
Jenna McCloud
We went to the zoo in January and even though it was nice and there were tons of people, all the services were shut down. There were even lines at the candy vending machines. While the animals were great, the fact that you couldn't vet drinks or food without a 40 min wait was disappointing.
Whiskey WheelKicks
Pretty small and don’t really have that WOW factor most Zoos have. Overall it was a great experience and the staff is amazing and friendly, very knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. You can tell they love their job
MariyamFatima Aali
Beautiful place. Lots of Animals but expensive. I had a city pass which covered it. Worth Visiting!
Ramona French
We enjoyed the zoo. The exhibits were nicely spresd out and the animals looked well cared for.
Kenny Duthie
Very happy that I got a membership here. There’s always things to do and see you at the zoo. When you think you have seen it all, there are always new things to see you the next time you visit.
Bhupesh Bora
Convinient parking and good for small kids as it's not too much of parking. Felt good for animals as they have sky walkway otherwise very tight tiny enclosures.
Cinthia Alvarez
Beautiful place to have some fun with all family , varieties kind of species of animals . Also a lot of store for drink and eat something!
Stella Nana
This is the first time i visited the Philadelphi Zoo. We Couldn't see all of the animals because of the covid restrictions, but we had fun. It seemed like the animals were bored too... 😅 …
Deep Jariwala
Very nice. Some exhibits were empty or closed but great variety overall. Plus the staff is welcoming and helpful.
taryn felmey
Great experience, even in the time of Covid-19. Masks worn, sanitizer stations, wipes, clean restrooms. Not everything is open, but we still spent a good 3 hours there and saw lots of animals. If you think you will.go more than once in a year, get a membership. It more than pays for itself.
Riz Zambrano
I became a family deluxe member since I love taking my kids here. The zoo has numerous activites. The zoo itself is pretty big and all the animals look healthy. The food prices are reasonable as well. This is a great place to visit and it might take you all day to get around.
Troup's Tropical Aquatics
Its just an absolutely great zoo. So many different animals and reptiles. America's first zoo.
Yogesh H
Name the Animal and you will find it here. Good grouping of animals. Well maintained place. Easy to hangout and find specific animals. Carry a zoo map at entrance. Can spend easily 2 to 3 hrs in this place. They have a boating option too for interested ones.
Danielle Richards
It was good. A little upset that not many animals were out since it was cold out. And very annoyed that they made me pay 17$ for parking which was not necessary. Could have just parked on the street. Tired to contact someone and Noone has yet to get back to me. It's been a week.
Princess J
First time attending their light show and I loved it. Filled with a lot of different activities . They served s'mores and hot chocolate.
Olesya Kasianov
Such a great zoo. My kids enjoyed very much.
Joy Vining
Great day. Fun members event at night with characters. Love all the added benefits of doing a membership. Staff was so friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the animals.
Jessie R
This zoo is amazing! They have so many animals that it is very hard to see everything in one day! We enjoyed all of the exhibits we saw. There were lots of things for every age. The animals seemed to be very well cared for.
Kinitra Epps
I went to the Ilumnature Light Show at the Philadelphia Zoo and it was beautiful. The entire zoo decorated with light and they vendors for food and drinks. It worth the visit. I would advise purchasing your tickets in advance to avoid long line.
Naidona Ott
Even though most indoor exhibits are closed, visiting gave us a bit of a sense of normalcy. We loved it!
Deborah Irons
It's always nice to visit the Philadelphia zoo which is one of the oldest zoo in the world! I love all the expansions and accommodations that our Heroes the caregivers have worked long and hard to still be one of the finest by far!
Kyle Owen
TREEHOUSE was closed, No birds were out due to Bird Flu and more then half of the stands were closed due to short staffing. I thought for the first day of Spring that they would of had more open. We are season pass members so hopefully it's better the warmer it gets.
rich paseler
Did boo at the zoo. It was set up very well and my daughter had lots of fun. The animals they have are great.
Betsaida Troche
Very nice not too many animals but all in all what there was ,was good enough
Sharita Flaherty
Going to the zoo in cooler/cold months is amazing! The animals in outdoor exhibits are generally more active and not as many visitors so you can actually get near the exhibits to see the animals.
Elizabeth Moore-Clark
I love the changes and the interactions they have with the children. It is well worth the trip with your family. I miss the sky balloon though and bee glad when they bring that back. The sky ride/zip line my grandson loved.
Danny Zayas
Great place, very clean and well staffed. A lot of animals have zoochosis, though, and thats kind of sad.
ZoeeLauren
Excellent short time experience. My 2 grand sons enjoyed it. It wasn't crowded and the pace was not rushed! We got a chance to see a few animals in their nature. Thank you.
Erinn Bean
Love the Member perks!! Morning Strolls and Member Evenings. Just wish they had more variety with the Morning Strolls. Most have been on a holiday or Sunday and we are not able to go. Have been really enjoying the evening activities though!!
Michael Mark
Wonderful. Staff was excellent. Very helpful and accommodating. Assisted with masks when we had forgotten about the Philadelphia mandate. Always a great day at the zoo.

Always an awesome time at the Philly Zoo! Fun for the kids, treats, nice cold beer, and amazing animals! Can't go wrong! If u don't want to pay for parking there's street parking too, a little sketchy but we've parked there plenty of times with out an issue, right next to gas station on same side of zoo.

Beautiful lights, I’d recommend anybody to go see the lights it’s gorgeous.
I have a membership so not sure exactly the amount for entry was.

I love the very first zoo in America !!!
until January 5, the zoo is open like regular until 4 hours;
and from 5pm before 10:00 pm begins a fabulous illumination show !!!
Eddie Ski
The zoo is always great, but my most recent visit was for the holiday light show. For their frist one i think it was good theres always things that could be improved but nothing major. All in all was a nice night out.
Camila
It was an okay experience. Just make sure you DON'T go on the weekends, it's crazy crowds there and you will not enjoy. Other than that, it's a nice zoo.
P Marie Wood
During Covid time this was unexpectedly empty. Many of the food shops were closed and the one or two open was limited in items. The yep was still very enjoyable and in a sense more relaxing because of the lower amount of visitors
Sam Ocheltree
Always a great place to be, where nature resides. Greenery and wild life are just calming, the zoo is a must visit anywhere u can find one.
Enjoy 👍 …

We had a beautiful day at the zoo! Missed a few of our animal friends, while enjoying those we did get to visit with.

Great zoo. Priced well, lots to see. Will go again.
Aslı Arslan
Beautiful zoo, it is designed well so the animals are not confined in small spaces but they can actually hang out in their own spaces. This means not all animals will be seen but that is a good thing!
Dylan shrago
Only giving it 4 stars because so many exhibits were empty. But other than that it was great , went with the family and everyone has a great time
David Farrell
This Galapagos tortoise was unbelievable to me. He's 90+years old and 400+pounds. I would not have appreciated how massive or just plain interesting these creatures are without seeing them in person. Thanks Philly Zoo!
Rebecca Smith
Haven't been here in years, and...wow. The improvements make SUCH a difference, emphasis more on the animals' comfort and freedom to roam. I was so happily surprised.
Jack Santoro
Was there for the wild nights at the zoo 6 to 9pm. Had a great time. Saw a lot of animals usually sleeping during the day. The staff was very happy and friendly. Not crowded and no kids! Will definitely do it again.
Jill Warhoftig
Took my toddler granddaughter for her first visit . My daughter was gifted a membership. I highly recommend going that route. Parking was included very close to entrance of zoo.
Go early, especially in the summer. We beat the crowds and it was nice and cool.
I went to the zoo as a child, took my children, and it never disappoints. The park was clean with great signage and plenty of things to see and do. My granddaughter lived the petting zoo
Amber Kujawski
Amazing zoo. The bird flu has all bird exhibits closed right now though.
Kool Breeze
Was pretty good but like any other zoo you don't see a lot of animals! They have their moments! Both kids enjoyed the indoor / outdoor learning adventure! Weather was mild for Philadelphia winter 50F degree

My girlfriend and I thoroughly loved exploring the Philadelphia Zoo on a cool, sunny day! The photography experience abounds!
Samantha Bewley
Amazing zoo! There are a bunch of animals here. My fiance and I came here with his family this weekend and everyone had a fun time! There were many animals outside enjoying the beautiful day!

I enjoyed watching the kids get excited seeing their favorite animals in real life and not the TV. It took me back when I was a kid at the zoo, and to see how much it had changed there.
Angie Steinberg
It was really great to come back this season to the zoo, many places were open! Enjoy
Stephen Smith
A very nice zoo lots to see also if you're lucky enough you can see the animals above you on their own walkway.
moon bunnie
I really enjoyed it because there was so many animals and quite the bit to do, including the Wild Works attraction. It'd be nice to go back.
Amanda Smoak
Very clean and orderly. Animals seemed relatively happy.
The Old Dude
Cool to spend time at the zoo after hours. Private company event. Easy garage parking with a short walk to the zoo. Helpful and friendly staff.
M Lawrence
The exhibits were cool. I recommend going during the week when it's less crowded. It costs $24 per adult and $17 for parking. The parking garage is about a little less than a quarter mile away from the entrance. You have to get tickets ahead of time.
Mirna Franco
An Awesome zoo!!! Had a blast, wish it was closer to me so i could go again.
Katrina's Review
Huge zoo and so many animals to see. It's worth the price.
Sybil Morley
My family had a wonderful visit, all the staff we encountered were friendly and happy to answer my 4year olds questions about the animals. We arrived late in the day, around 230 on a Friday, and some of the concessions were closed for the day. Lots of animals to see, we could've easily spent even more time. Plenty of parking in the garage, only a block or so away ($17).
Ilona Remenicky
I love this zoo! I've been visiting since I was a kid and I get to bring my kids now. It was a warm day, so more cooling stations would have been helpful. Some animals were off exhibit due to the heat and avian flu, but it is the responsible way to care for the animals and visitors.
Mike Menechino
Usually 4-5 stars, but Covid must have had a serious impact around here. Dead and damaged TV displays around the park, concessions and beer garden abandoned, overgrown and empty courtyards, the list goes on. The place really looks run down compared to how it used to be. Very sad to see and I hope this isn’t due to lack of business. The amount of animals here is impressive and as a zoo it is great, but when the atmosphere is so dead, you can’t help but get a bad vibe.
Kelly Newland
Such a great trip! All of the employees were great! Very informative! There was a small goat petting zoo for young kids..my favorite was the orangutan exhibit! Really cool to watch! We also saw Beau the 3 month old giraffe..so adorable! Overall great experience!!
Greg D'Avenio
Great zoo! Prefect for any occasion, kids loved it!
Crystal Blackman
I like the layout. I did like the idea of the animals being able to people watch. A few exhibits were closed.
Elizabeth Rand
Was a great experience. Just wish there was more than 2 gift shops with different variety. Handicapped excessible and very helpful employees at the zoo.
erika Lyn
Boo at the Zoo with my crew. we had so much fun. there were sanitizer stations throughout. It is required to wear mask.
Steve Bailey
Had a great time and saw every animal.we expected to see. A bit pricey but worth it for a trip through this country's oldest zoo.
Johnathan Rodríguez
I had a good time when I visited it. The majority of animals were asleep, but at least I got to see them. The staff were really friendly and helpful and I definitely would recommend visiting the zoo.
Sakura CH
Great night !! First time to experience and it was amazing. Never thought go to the zoo at night time. Love it!
Ol James G
It was good. To be totally honest I was a little sad that most of the animals were hiding. The dinosaur exhibit was not worth the price of admission. The facts were really bogus and I don't understand why.
jersey corolla lu vazquez
Was a great time ..some nice animals ...clean place ...
S Josh
nice zoo, but many shows are closed in winter
Ashley Griffith
Was nice but nothing was going on. A lot of things were closed. Maybe because it was a weekday? Had fun though. Got to see the 6ABC dinosaur exhibit which was pretty cool
Joseph Izzo
Really great zoo. Nice for a half-day excursion. Good variety of animals, knowledgeable staff, clean amenities. We'll be back.
Katherine R.
Iv'e been coming here since i was a little girl with my parents and now I take my Goddaughter. It's always a great experience. friendly staff, and clean!
Kelly inPhilly

Pat P
We enjoyed our time here. Not quite a 5 star experience, but still fun.
Maddy L
So cool! So many fun activities for the kids and the animals are so cool. Primate house was amazing and has lots of cute baby monkeys. Big cats walked over our heads and it was amazing. Staff is super friendly and helpful.
Mamadou Sakho
Excellent trip to the philly zoo. Haven't been ever and me and my girlfriend had a blast.
Anastasia Hudikova
Many animals that are kept in good conditions, the zoo is clean, has a bunch of benches and just overall a great experience. You do need to book your tickets in advance but the process isn't complicated and it's very easy to do.
Gregory Rice
I thought it would have some more animals to view from going here in 2016 and understand protecting the birds from avian influenza but what happened to all of the bears? The large crowd on a weekend with nice weather was definitely noticeable especially in the big cats exhibit area.
Amy R
Great place to bring the family . You will enjoy seeing all the animals kids will have fun.
TEMITOPE FOWORA
A very good hike around the zoo
Not recommended on a hot 🔥 day
Accessible rest rooms though
Going with kids? Dinosaur 🦕 🦖 exhibit is a must. Don't forget to pack cool drinks, Popsicles, mini fan and a very sturdy stroller
Cynthia King
A little disappointed. So much of the zoo was unavailable for patrons. Enjoyed what we could.
Pam Stewart
I loved this Zoo. The animals looked well cared for and I especially liked the Swan boats on the lake.
Mariusz Sztarkowski
good place on relax with family and friends but short time .this zoo it's small
Jackie Morrison
Becoming a member was an outstanding choice. I grew up with the Philly Zoo of the 90s but it was a bit tight for the animals. They've now created such an amazingly beautiful place for the humans and animals! It's nicely shaded and has so much to look at.
Filip Krumphanzl
Did not expect the zoo to be so nice given the age. Especially enjoyed the above ground tunnels through which the animals were walking. It was really impressive to see a tiger walk so close above people. Only I would welcome more food stands (or at least more food options) and lockers at the entrance. Overall it´s definitely one of the highlights of Philly.
Ron McCarty
I have always loved the Philadelphia zoo! With that being said I was a little disappointed because they didn't have as many animals as they used to. No more elephants, we only saw 2 bears, the polar bears are gone, the petting zoo was a joke and all the birds were on lock down because of the bird flu. On a positive note, the staff were great and the parking garage was very nice and provided us with shade to eat our lunch at since we packed coolers because just like any other event, the food is expensive. Overall we had a nice time, just wish we could have seen more animals.
Andi Sotzing
Love the zoo! It's a little escape from the giant buildings of the city. Plus all the animal highways are awesome giving you the chance to see animals from a different perspective.
Olly Bell
It was nice. All animal buildings are closed though!!
Emily Morgan
Absolutely fell in love with this Zoo. My Daughter was entranced with all the animals and great visibility of the animals. Hopefully when we go again it won't be 90+ degrees and the animals have more energy. We will make another trip (7 hrs) to visit again.
Niels Beekes
A fun zoo. Not super big but we had a fun day out. Had a bunch of animals that I had never seen before so that was great too! And the red panda was very cute and friendly. Overal had a good time that day!
John M
Good fun place to spend time with the fam and friends. I went for the first time, since moving to Philly 3 years ago, and had a great time snapping some nice shots of the wildlife.
Tomera Cobado
This was a huge zoo compared to the Buffalo Zoo (which I'm familiar with), very clean, helpful friendly staff. The best banana soft serve icecream, and a ton of food choices. It was so awesome, I loved all the animals and the zoo was very clean.
India Baxley
The zoo was always my favorite growing up but now it is so different. They took away alot of things that I liked the most, but I did enjoy it with my kids.
afaust240
Great place to take the kids. I'd recommend going when it's not so hot to see more animals
Bill
Pretty cool Zoo, no real complaints. Really cool that you could get so close to some of the birds.
