Reviews of Jacob Wrey Mould Fountain
City Hall Park Fountain is really unique, beautiful and perfect! Its an historical landmark...Great place to just stop and take five, some large trees to make you feel away from the crowd!
Just recently there on Sat.6/30/18.
Because failed to get off previous subway stop. Pretty nice, pleasantly attractive naturally (looking) landscape park
Hadn't time to see the fountain, but will return. Please wait for update.
Iconic fountain by City Hall. The park around the fountain is always a cool.oasis on Hot New York City days, or a quiet place amidst the chaos. It usually has some art installation going as well.
The fountain is beautiful and at night when the lanterns are lit, it has a ethereal quality.
Great park in the lower Manhattan where you can walk and have some rest. There is a big refreshing fountain on the middle.
Beautiful but need more lighting very dark at night you can't see the fountain. Can someone please report this to the proper authorities. It's very dangerous for a person to walk in there at night like we did. We had to turn on our cell phone flashlight.
Beautifully restored fountain in a quiet sheltered spot away from the hordes and hawkers on the Bridge...too bad it's turned off...don't know why..
Nice little park and fountain in the heart of the financial district. They have benches to sit and relax.
Nice place to hang out and rest. You can feed the squirrels from hand but they are picky and don't eat everything.
Nice little park in the middle of beautiful buildings and next to the city hall.
Lovely place to sit and people watch while relaxing with the soothing sounds of the waterfall.
One of the most beautiful parks in NYC
Beautiful little fountain in City Hall Park -.very nice at dusk .
Some nice art to look at and people watch
Beautiful water front park for relaxing or hanging out with friends
pretty place worth checking out
great place to sit and eat your lunch. also good spot for people watching. lot of tourists in the park usually. but it's usually easy to find seating in the park. The fountain is nice specially from spring to fall. it's few minutes walk from Brooklyn Bridge. this place can be a good stopover if you are going from downtown to Brooklyn walking or vice versa.
Beautiful fountain in City Hall Park
Lovely wee park in the city.
Nice place with plenty of benches to sit and relax, or catch your breath. Spoke to some lovely people from Jersey, whom suggested some great places to eat, especially in Little Italy.
They also warned us about a weird guy walking around the fountain. My friend and I didnt stay too long to witness any of his weird acts, but be forewarned if you're here!
Love this iconic fountain. It’s calming to look at, excellent place to sit and draw, paint, or sketch. Sometimes they have beautiful live music in the area nearest the fountain; classical violin or opera music.. etc :)
it's such a beautiful place in autumn!
Nice place for relaxation and pics
Always nice to take a stroll early morning or even after work. A nice mini break away from the city's busy life style. Not simply just a tourist spot. Cherry blossom here are really pretty, even if it's not the Japanese Sakura blossoms.
Directly located inside City Hall Park, during the Summer/Spring season, the water fountain is on full display. It's a very calming and serene sound of the water feature with plenty of benches to relax. During the Fall/Winter season, the water is off, but they place flowery and plant arrangements into the water holding areas.
Nice place to catch your breath or sit for a few minutes to relax or catch your bearings. There's a lot of benches here where you can do that. I was here for a few minutes trying to find the best way to walk to entrance for the j train. Did not find my answer but that's how it goes.
This is a gorgeous fountain in City Hall Park, right across from the incredible Woolworth Building. The fountain is incredibly beautiful with many features and lights. Tourists flock to it for pictures. So pretty!
The fountain's structure is good but the water looks unclean. A guy kept washing his shows at the fountain and once before a homeless person took a shower in the fountain.
If you get there make sure you sit on a bench and look up, you will see some nice high rises. You can also see city hall and the Woolworth building which is across the street.
A beautiful place to be with family. When I visit it was very cold but still it was a great experience. You can grab great pictures, have a trip around and also you can just walk around. Very cool for travelers.
Beautiful and relaxing place to sit.
Beautiful place to share with nature.
Nice fountain surrounded by a pleasant park.
This is a heavy tourist area with walking tour groups, good for taking pictures of city hall and other historic buildings. In the park near the fountain are benches to sit and take in the sights while resting your feet.
Nice and clean public park.
Great place to stop for wedding photos on the way to city hall.
Nice park with slot of fancy restaurant s nearby and is really close to NYU Campus. Great place to hang out and chill. Can be a bit busy in the afternoon.
Lovely fountain in the middle of City Hall Park. Nice rest spot after walking the Brooklyn Bridge, shopping in China Town and shopping at the Farmers Market.
There are also some fast food carts for a quick bite or beverage.
The fountain is not only amazing to look at but also helps dial the chaotic city noise down and forces one to enter into this serene little nook. Calming is it's effect.
Great place to sit and chill in the city.
Great little park that always had seating available. Interesting sound art being played over speakers, depicting people breathing (loudly). That ends July 8th I believe.
As seen in John Wick II - this iconic tourist attraction has featured in many a movie and wedding video. Just imagine all the selfies it has appeared in as the background. Come and see a real wonder of the world.
Very nice place!
Very nice spot to take a break
This is NYC Hall Park. Because of it's location you have a wide range of sightseeing choices to make from here. Enjoy u'r time. And please take pictures and post some of them at least. I love NYC!
Nice sit down area and very comfy!
Its a beautiful fountain and yet another lovely piece of greenery here in the city. But the sounds on the speakers while artistic, sound like the mating cries of gorillas in the mist.
Beautiful garden-like setting with lots of seats and shaded areas. Great for meeting up with a friend to eat lunch.
Beautiful fountain in City Hall Park. Lovely atmosphere. Watched the birds and the squirrels. Later at night there are lots of fireflies.
Beautiful relaxing place for a wedding loved the area. ( not getting married just saying) I saw people having a tour of the area how did they arrange it I wonder?
#Great cozy park for hanging out on your lunch break or for a stroll during the evening or night. Wonderful attraction spot!
Lots of benches to sit on and trees to provide plenty of shade, an ideal place to eat lunch and get a bit of fresh air.
It is in City Hall Park. The cascading water is beautiful and cooling when its really hot. It is surrounded by benches..so you can sit close and gaze at iy
Nice place to sit and relax
Very nice place to stop and rest while touring the area. Would be nice to see the whole fountain working.
a very soothing tranquil private park. the food was above average, a little on the expensive side, but we'll worth it.
Busy area in the summer, tons of tourists and foot traffic. Squirrels and birds will harass you while you eat lunch.
The last time I was in this park, I was accosted by a squirrel who was trying to shale me down for some nuts. 30 seconds later I was pooped on by a pigeon. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK! Lol
This place is a small park next to NYC city hall. It's have a lot a big tree make feel fresh. I like it.
Its one of the famous bollywood film "kal ho na ho" spots. Must watch for indian married couple 🤣😂🤣. Good photogenic place. …
Beautiful relaxing place. Great to sit and read and have some personal time.
Jacob Wrey Mould (August 7, 1825 – June 14, 1886) was a British architect, illustrator, linguist and musician, noted for his contributions to the design and construction of New York City's Central Park. He was "instrumental" in bringing the British High Victorian architecture to the United States, and was a founding member of the American Institute of Architects.
Born in Chislehurst, Kent in 1825, Mould attended King's College School in 1842. For two years, he studied the Alhambra in Spain under Owen Jones, the "master of polychromy," with whom he later co-designed the "Turkish Chamber" of Buckingham Palace. Mould's subsequent designs were often influenced by his appreciation of the Moorish style of architecture.
Mould designed decorations for The Great Exhibition in London in 1851. He moved to the United States in 1852, and worked on the Crystal Palace Exhibition in Manhattan. He was invited by Moses H. Grinnell in 1853 to design and build Unitarian Church of All Souls, and then was brought in on early plans for the great urban park in the heart of the city, Central Park. Working closely with creators Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, he designed many of the park's notable landmarks, including the "graceful" and "richly decorated" old Bandstand, Belvedere Castle, a great number of bridges, and the carvings on the Bethesda Terrace.
Though described as eccentric and ill-mannered, Mould was hired full-time as an assistant city architect in 1857, and from 1870 to 1871 was architect-in-chief for the Department of Public Works. In the 1860s, he had also built two notable country homes in Long Island on Hempstead Bay, both of which were lavish and ornate buildings for rich clients from New York. Mould also collaborated with Vaux on the design of the original Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural History, and designed the fountain at City Hall Park (1871).
In 1874, Mould went to Lima, Peru, with Henry Meiggs, where he helped design a public park. He returned to New York in 1879, and resumed his duties for the Department of Public Works until his death in New York City on June 14, 1886. He built the Morningside Park promenade in 1883, and his final design in the United States was a temporary tomb for President Ulysses S. Grant in Riverside Park, replaced later by the permanent monument known as Grant's Tomb.
Besides being an accomplished architect and designer, Jacob Wrey Mould was an avid pianist and organist, and employed his talent for language in translating numerous foreign opera librettos into English. He is interred at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
Fountain with amazing background
This fountain is located in People with aids Place, I though its worth and should be mentioned here. Further, I believe another google sign should be given for this special memorials dedicated to a certain cause (aids, domestic violence, women, lgtbq, etc)
On a nice spring/summer day the best place to sit while reading a book or just enjoy the scenery .
Dirty park with nasty water in the heart if downtown New York. This park does provide a fun little oasis from the hustle and bustle of the tall buildings and Brooklyn bridge nearby though.
We took a stop as my kid was too happy to see open area in crowded NY..kept playing for 2 hours with pegions
Nice place by City Hall, family environment for an afternoon or weekend program. Good touristic spot downtown.
even though it is a small place but you will enjoy and can relax for sometime after working or walking.
Big, beautiful, traditional style fountain. Especially pretty when it's not winter and the water is running

Cool fountain. Pretty big. It's inside the City Hall Park which is open from 6am to midnight everyday.
Nice place to sit, but during sunset it feels like this place is haunted.
Beautiful landmark: it would be nice to honor the actual laborers who constructed this fountain.
Very pretty, great place to people watch and rest tired feet.

Marvelous 🌝🌝 …
Quiet nice square in the center of noisy Manhatton. There are many benches, in the center there is a fountain, near which you can sit and rest and listen to the sounds of water and the ringing of the chapel.
Iconic place. His image appears in countless movies of all genres from my poor Angel to John Wick impossible not to go to Central Psrk and not take a picture
A beautiful place to go while walking around NY. When I went there was a lot of ice, but it was still beautiful.
As always beautiful and always in different ways))) which makes it especially attractive)
As always, beautiful and always in different ways))) which makes it especially attractive
A beautiful fountain where the water falls furiously, some beautiful skyscrapers
Water fountain inside City Hall Park, NY
Nice place in Central Park, street performances. Not necessarily to do
An iconic fountain located in front of New York City Hall. When walking the brookling bridge you can visit it.
There is a park next to the City Hall where this fountain is located. In my opinion, a great place to take a break from the bustle of the city, it is unexpectedly quiet and comfortable here. Close to exit to Brooklyn Bridge. And this fountain ⛲ looks great in photographs.
Nice place across from Brooklyn bridge
Nice habit in the park, you can go down to your breasts to relax.
Quiet place to rest. Nearby you can find a truck with hot dogs and drinks.
One of the most visited areas of Central Park, so it's a good place to sit for a while and watch the people, they usually do street shows.
A good place to stop in a city where you don't stop walking.
Beautiful place, a resort, go tired, take a break in a nearby bench, Bach to star opposite a shopping village on coffee drinkin appreciate this heritage, feel good, feel comfortable, enjoyable.
Extremely beautiful place, very good for walking and enjoying the view of the city! All very well taken care of, neat and relaxed. Worth the walk and the photos, of course.
Nice park in front of the town hall and surrounded by magnificent buildings, from the administrative buildings to the new F Ghery skyscraper, passing through the classic Woolworth building. The lampposts around the fountain are illuminated by gas in memory of the first ones that were in the city. There are usually exhibits around the park. Quiet to rest after crossing the Brooklyn Bridge
Without a doubt, one of those places where you must stop for at least 5 minutes in a city as busy as NY. Good place to take a more secluded and relaxed puppy from the noisy environment.
Very nice to take a photo
A nice park that one comes across when going down the Brooklyn Bridge in the direction of Manhattan. It is nice to rest and gain strength to continue walking.
Great little place to hang out in Manhattan! I recommend, we even took our picnic! A few meters from the Brooklyn Bridge
A very relaxed place in the city!
A small park, but nice. You can see part of the city. There are squirrels everywhere! Funny and beautiful.
