What I didn't like about my last visits was that someone decided to mess up the playground for RC toys - cars - tanks. And apparently the budget did not cope with the task and it will all be stretched out for years. What was done - it was not necessary to do this at all!

I came here in the morning to catch the sunrise, and woah! You’d never believe this is NYC, absolutely magnificent and mesmerizing. I recommend coming a few minutes before sunrise to get the full experience.

This is the best place to learn driving. There are hugh parking lots that once belong to hangers and very long unused runway that used to be lifeline for aviation pioneers. Floyd Bennett Field was built between 1928 and 1931 and quickly became the preferred launching site for record-setting flights by Hughes, Earhart, Wiley Post and other aviation pioneers. Some portion of Floyd Bennett field is used by NYPD and Sanitation. There is one farm and visitor center which is worth visiting if you want to know more about aviation history attached to this airport.

A mysterious, almost exotic getaway into the wilderness, minutes away from dense civilization, where history and present, modern and old, new construction and ruins meet seamlessly.

The area definitely has alot of open space for the city. It's broken up in different areas. I haven't been or even know if I can get into? It's been a few yrs since I've rolled threw on bike. There's a number of different things going on from the sports area, gardening, R/C airplanes, etc. Its along Jamaica Bay at the start of Flatbush Ave. It's right before Marine park bridge to Rockaway. As a matter of fact it's the last light before the bridge 🌉. I've taken a few pics off the Brooklyn side of the Marine Park Bridge that next to or after F.B.Field. On the right side is Brooklyn (if you zoom in you will see the old parachute jump in Coney Island) and the left is the end of Rockaway called Breezy Point.

Cool, old air field with plenty of space to bike around. Hobbyists like to come here to play with their serious RC cars and planes. People clearly also love to race their actual cars or make donuts based on all the skid marks. However racing is definitely not allowed here. There is also a small animal farm here called Green Meadows Farm, camping options, Jamaica bay water access and Aviator indoor sports complex.

Took my 4yr old granddaughter and 11yr old nephew, we had a nice time. The animals were nice to feed and pet. Hayride was short and sweet. Not many food options, but the fresh hot off the flames corn was Delish. Plenty photo op spots. The pumpkins were all small though. But all in all, It is a nice day for us.

Activities are only paid schedueled lessons, no more open to the public walk-ins, after covid. Many things are closed, like the arcade, food court, lounge, and rock climbing. Wish they would reopen everything.

Easyer Egg Hunt event. It was.grear in the midst.of the pandemic to habe the kids.out and about. There is a hige playground and there were.rides and animals. A race for all ages and cand and plastic eggs The kids.got.to.see where bacon came from llamas alpachas. Theu fed hirses and chickens it was great and orderly. Lots of fun. You coukd operste a tractor and other things. Brisk but good. A concrete.hey ride was.fun

Great place to fish, and have a lovely time outdoors. There are many things you can do here, there's space for camping, bbq, is never crowded, there's a few other things inside. The only 2 Problems are: BATHROOM...it is disgusting. They should really do something about it and MOSQUITOS...specially late afternoon these are huge and can literally eat you up😅 bring lots of repellent.

What a great place to bring the kiddos have many things to do the hayride, haunted house, petting areas we had a blast not that expensive 9.00 dollars a person 3 dollars for the lettuce head and 3 dollars for the pony rides will be attending any events they have here it was such a fun time and being city dwellers it's good to be around farm animals every once in awhile

This is a very cool hidden gem in New York City. The area is run by the National Park Service so there are campsites on the airfield. As far as I know, it's the only place to camp in New York City which makes it pretty unique. The campsite area has a trailer with showers and a bathroom with running water nearby. It's a very cool experience to be able to drive on the old runways. Also, the historic/vintage airplane hangers are cool to look at as well.

Beautiful location for riding your bike, running or just about any exercise. This place is also great for bird watching. There is a parking lot that accommodates drivers. There is no fee, it's free.

Raptor point is georgious beach shore line ,very clean and requires Jamaica bay fishing sticker to park close to.Well worth the price of the permit.

Floyd Bennett Field is a part of the large Gateway National Recreational Area in Brooklyn. FBF is a historic airfield and at one point the city's major airport before Idlewild was constructed. The US Navy conducted numerous test flights during the Golden Age of flight. Today its used as a parade ground, RC flight school and as an impromptu testing ground for budding drivers.

They had farm animals there. It was nice. You were able to feed the animals from a distance. A lil hot but overall nice.

Very nice open field. I mainly go by the old aviation airport. It's not too many places in Brooklyn where you can find open spaces like this to get away from the noise and congestion.

Great place to take your kids. I had a blast ice skating here on a Saturday night. There were quite a few people, but not enough to make people bump into each other. Staff was present just to make sure no one got injured. aside from ice skating they have a alot other things to do, like fishing and the aviator complex with many other indoor activities for kids and adults.

Great spot in brooklyn to go pumpkin picking during the season of Autumn, $9 entrance fee covers the haunted house and you get to pick a fresh pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. Another family group arranged the pumpkins in the patch in the shape of a heart. Everyone after took advantage of the artistic rendition of a heart shape using pumpkins!! It's a great open area to bring the family and relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Nice entertainment for kids within the city proximity. Farm animals are very nice to expose kids to. A bit too crowded, long lines for certain popular activities. And was hard to find a nice pumpkin... we were there last 2 hours before closing. But in a day time there were even more people.

What is your favorite place in New York? The Floyd Bennett Field! With children you can go to an amusement park and consume artificial fun - here it is real. Out on the runways you can do whatever you like. It's great fun for people really thinking outside the box

Great park, they have a circus until May 12th 2019. Other than that, the park is huge. A nature preserve, camp grounds archery range, kayaking. And there are usually people flying drones.

It's a great place to host the Rugged Maniac obstacle race each year. There are places to go camping and fishing here. It is also home to an indoor sports facility, Aviator Sports, with skating, hockey and other activities. A lot of fun options without having to leave Brooklyn.

This excellent place were can play soccer exclusively in 10 field on natural grass, also has a parking area and battery bathroom available and are easy to get there.

I love this place! It's very peaceful and quiet and it has nice forest trails and beach walks.There are also campsites, and little farms you can rent for the season to grow your own tomatoes and such. As you walk deeper into the trails it won't even feel like Brooklyn anymore. Also a great place to teach people how to drive, as there are big open runways for new drivers to practice.

Best place to jog, ride a bike or just relax watching the sunset. If you are lucky can watch the RC planes flying while munching on snacks (bring your own snacks), bring some mosquito repellent as well.

Part of the larger Gateway National Park- it is the oldest civil airport in NYC. When it became impractical for commercial purposes- it was turned over to the military and eventually the park service. A hanger in the back of the airport hosts refurbished airplanes fixed and maintained by a small army of volunteers who are happy to provide tours. The area also hosts camping sites which is probably one of the most interesting places I've ever camped! The only campsites that I'm aware of in any of the 5 Boroughs which offers a great base to explore from. Secure your food though because the raccoons are fearless.

The North Forty Natural Area is my favorite place to take the dog and cat for a walk. The secluded trails are especially perfect for walking the cat. Nicest visitor center clerk ever (also funny, so be sure to say hello and grab a map and stamp). Sometimes there are folks flying their model airplanes or drones, or RC cars which are all pretty fun to watch (but can be noisy). Lots of wildlife to watch for if you know what you're looking for. There are definitely those who speed down the tarmacs in their flashy cars, but to each their own! Overall a really unique park!

Amazing camping site and you can go fishing, kayaking as well as fly your drones and planes. The hidden gem here is the "Historic Air Restoration Project at Hanger B". This home of some the planes from WWII as well as the first airplane by the Wright Brothers!!

Regular evening bike races! Recreational RC airplane flights! Sanitation drivers on practice runs with heavy trucks! This park offers a lot, an amazing variety tucked behind the unassuming façade in Flatbush. Seasonal camping by permit is available on sites near Jamaica bay, facing the wildlife preserve. Some sites have water, and showers and flush toilets are available at the ranger station. The ranger staff are helpful and courteous! The old airfield predates Idlewild/JFK, and a few old aircraft make up a museum on the field; the huge old runways offer a great place for drivers of all sorts, from neighborhood youth to DSNY workers. Parking is available on-site.

The husband and I came here in search if a place to tent camp over night. It was pretty early on a Saturday and the camp store was closed and looked as if it had been fo some time. The entrance to the tent camping area was so overgrown with trees we missed it twice. We did end up backing the minivan up to the beach and just enjoying the breeze and the water so it wasn't a complete waste. There are a few other things to do her like the children's garden etc but the signs were small, hard to follow and few and far in between. Overall we never got to cook our steaks but we did enjoy ourselves for a few hours.

Wonderful park, with access to an ocean / fishing. Archery range (need permit), runway for miniature planes, etc. Minus one star because you can be unlucky enough to catch teens drag racing. Park police is typically on them quickly enough though.

First airport in NYC, still can be used for Smaller Planes to land in an Emergency. Nice waterfront views of the Bridges and NYC skyline . Nice size Gym for Sport activities, Soccer , Basketball, Hockey , Ice Skating , Soccer Field , also home to Nypd Special Units and Sanitation, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps .

This place feels like a training field for new drivers, most drivers are slow but be careful for rare speedy cars around. There is a BBQ area by the camp site where you can grill or have a picnic on the picnic tables. I think the place is perfect for kites. ✔️ The area is open and windy.

A good place to chill, or learn to drive, but constant drag races ruin everything. People don't check their mirrors before turning, therefore creating a potentially dangerous situation. Also be mindful that the roads are bad on the first straight line after you enter the park. Overall, it's nice to come out there and sit in your car and just rest. Always be careful there though.

Love this place. Aviator sports complex is located in here as well. There are many events here including circus acts and fairs. It's a great wide open space to enjoy RC cars and aircraft including drone flying (must have a permit). Also a great place to do some fishing at the end by the bridge.

Best place in NYC for fishing and relaxing. Biking or picnic, kites, good food at aviator, walking in there is no cars. Get map from Ryan center ( flight tower), 🐦 watch, camping with permit. RV camping, archery place with permit, or kayaking. Summer time don't forget bug spray. Best when is windy when is summer. Lots people learning driving with just be patient, give them to time and place. sunsets and sunrise just beauty. Specially full moon amazing with 🐟 ing permit you can stay overnight.

Just got back from camping their this weekend. It was overall a great experience. I would give it a 90. Pros: real camping experience Clean facilities Great outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, kayaking) Camp store is very useful. The bathrooms and showers are all clean Cons: Very difficult to navigate without transportation Not a lot of signs pointing to the correct direction of your site At night there are a lot of drag racers going at high speeds in a poorly lit area. You have to be extra cautious crossing the roads Overall I will definitely do again maybe even longer.

I was here for the night nation run and color run. Highly spacious with a plenty of parking space for events if you are driving. Aviator recreational center is located here as well for indoor wall climbing , old arcade (ah the nostalgia) and indoor skating. Unfortunately it's not easily accessible by public transportation as there is one bus that runs through the area.

Great wide open park that was once an airstrip with two intersecting runways. You can drive around casually, practice on your new boosted board or just enjoy the scenery by the water. It’s a good place to come to relax.

Its like suburbs of Brooklyn, even closer. It has a lot of fields with access to the water. It has I believe the only one campground in a Brooklyn, you can camp overnight. It has a RV area. You can go fishing and kayaking. The bottom line is if you like the nature and there no time to go to the planned trip, this is the place for you.

We went for the annual Easter egg Hunt. The girls really enjoyed themselves. This is a fun place to take the children on a warm day. Hay Rides and feeding the sweet and friendly farm animals. Good time for all.

It's a good place to go when your bored it gives you something to do. You might be pleasantly surprised., Theres skating, rock climbing, some video games. A place to eat place to hang out get away from the city even if it is for an hour or two then you go back home.

Went to see the Universal Soul Circus. The set up was actually nicer than other venues that has hosted it before. The show was awesome and they offered a free shuttle bus to assist those who didn't drive get to the nearest public transportation. I would come back if another show was held here.

Saw lots of awesome rc planes. Its a really cool place to watch rc pilots in action. The planes vary is size, from 3 to 6 feet. The gas planes gets more attention than the electric ones because of the noise.

I have been here 3x. Once to visit the circus. The kids had a great time on the school trip. It was very interactive. Next 2x were to pick up Toys For Tots. Not a good experience in the pouring rain and cold. This does not impact the score as we could not change the weather. If you do go there for Toys get there by 6 a.m.

First time there, so I admittedly can't say alot, it has acres of open space and we look forward to finding out more. I do want to note that we went for an Easter egg hunt (probably held by an outside company) which was inaccurately advertised as an egg hunt but was actually held on a flat grass field and involved kids running 100 ft. to pick up a half dozen candy eggs in a pile. Not very eggciting..sorry :-)

This is now part of the National Park Service and is a shared facility with other government agencies such as the Coast Guard and NYC Police Aviation unit. There is inside ice skating, an arcade area, ball fields, an area for radio control airplanes and cars, and a camping area. There is plenty of undeveloped space and parking. This is a work in progress so there are several old buildings and fenced-off areas. There are a few areas that are not aesthetically pleasing, but this is a minor factor. Park staff is helpful and accommodating. During the summer months be prepared for mosquitoes and bugs since this is near a salt marsh area. There are plenty of ticks in the grassy areas. There are some special events and fairs held throughout the year. Some get crowded so be prepared for some traffic getting into the park. Traffic signs and directions inside the park could be a bit better.

Cool sports place. My nephew had his birthday here for 2 years and i've always had fun. Also good to get the adults involved and on the in door field. Great for kids birthday parties in the winter.

Was invited here for a 10 year old birthday party. The kids have a blast on the gymnastics floor for an hour or so, I believe they do offer gymnastics classes. The have rock climbing right by the entrance and have an ice skate rang, which we didn't get to try, but we did receive a voucher for a person for free ice skate in the party favor bag that the staff put in. The location is kind of remote, and you will find yourself on the phone less, celluar reception there is pretty bad.

I been here for work. The fields are kept pretty good. Its all artificial grass. Indoor has a few games, rock climbing wall, and an upstairs bar. They have a place to rent for like a party that overlooks the two ice skating rinks.

Great place to go to learn how to drive. Camping, mini beach, fishing, illegal racing if you go by the drag mark circles. Saw a few mobile homes. Watch out for public toilet accidentally went into mens bathroom and someone exploded in there lol (reminded me of an outhouse). There was a endurance race going on and the prior week a car show and no money came out of pocket. Good for bike riding too!

Great place to come and look at the water view. It's just relaxing. Also great place to come and drive since theres a huge parking lots that used to be a runaway. Last not but least they have a campground which is not too bad. When you camp there it actually feels like real camping.

Haha Google Maps keeps on asking me to review this place, I was here for a temporary attraction that was set up in tents. Should I say it's an abandoned airport and therefore it's awesome for drag races? Dunno if that's legal though and it may be private property too. They do have some permanent buildings set up there too that are in use, and other attractions going on there. but I don't know what they really are.

Very good place for astronomy as it is one of the darkest sites in the city. However it is a little frustrating trying to walk along the roads especially during the night as the sidewalks are often flooded and have many branches on them. I would highly recommend it for city astronomers especially if they have a car.

Super fun place to do so many different things. Do not miss Hanger B, a museum of classic planes. Also try and catch the RC planes on the adjacent runway. There are a few campsites for local woodsyness. Check out the pier for some fishing or to meet a local weirdo.

I've been going to Floyd Bennett Field for almost 40 year's. Started going there for the archery range they have and it was a great place back then. Today it still a great place to shoot archery but they offer so much more now. You can fly remote control airplanes, race remote control cars, fish, canoe and so much more. It also now has the Aviation Center that is great to take kids to for a day of fun. Not to mention the Soccer and Football fields they have where you can watch some good games played.....all FREE ! FLOYD BENNETT FIELD is a place you really should check out, there is something for everyone to do there to have fun.

If you're using the campsite its easy to get lost here, once one gets through the gate to the old airbase, ignore gps and follow the signs. The actual route uses the old, no longer used runway. Be mindful of the potholes as the runway is no longer maintained. It's wide enough to dodge most of them. The mosquitos are there in legions. They hide in the grass and attack as you walk to the campsites from the parking lot. They are also persistent enough to wiggle through the mesh windows of my tent! After setting up, I left for a few hours. Upon my return, I found roughly 20 to 30 of them already in the tent. So don't forget the bug spray and go wild with it! If you can handle the pests and don't mind roughing it, this is a great place to spend the night. Close to the city yet far from the crowds.

Went ice skating there with my kids. First time in years, ice was super crunchy so it made itmore difficult.price was decent, look them up on groupon go get a better deal. They have nicer rental skates than wollmans (since the last time I was there) and convinient parking lot and free. Definitely an excellent place to visit on warm days to cool down. Do NOT take your kids with double bladed skates, they don't allow them, so my toddlers had to come off the ice since I won't let them wear rentals.

Visited here on Thanksgiving day so the visitor center was closed, but the field itself was open. This site should be very interesting anyone with an interest in aviation history. It is possible to drive around all of the runways, hangars and admin buildings and get a real sense of what New York's first commercial airport was like. On the far end there are great views across Jamaica Bay towards Kennedy airport, and at least on this days we got some great views of big jets banking and turning overhead. Based on this short visit we definitely plan to return when the visitor center is open.

Had a great time skating with the kids on Black Friday. It was not crowded at all so it was a great experience for me. The kids also had fun too. The only reason why I had given it 4 stars was bc the skates were very painful even with 2 socks on. My friend had a blister from skating. Nonetheless, we stayed for 2 hours bc we were all having fun together. Will come back but will get my own skates.

It is controversial place. Could be nice and quiet or almost unbearable noisy. We had very good time to have a picnic with small bbq and beautiful water view, or another day we brought food for wild birds. But, it is a military place with police helicopters practicing base, so imaging if you hit their training lessons you will not be able to stay there for more then 30 minutes. It all depends on your luck. Legally you can not make any food there, police officer kindly let us keep our small bbq grill but usually you have to get permit for camping for about 25$ per day-night stay.

This was my 2nd time here. First time was years ago for the Color Run event, which took place outside of Floyd Bennett Field. Okay, so I guess technically this would make it my first official time here. It was beyond what I expected. My friend had surprised me by bringing me here to ice skate which I haven't done in years. After skating for an hour, we were hungry so we headed out to the food area. The staff were all really friendly, asking us what we wanted and preparing the food fresh for us. There was so much food options, but those sweet chili wings were delicious! Get the wings! :) Will definitely be back here for either ice skating again or maybe rock climbing!

Ice skating was very affordable with the groupon deal. We went at 12:30 on sunday for the open skate, and it was full but not overly crowded. By about 2pm it got really crowded. The ice was all chopped up from so many skaters and it made it hard to skate. The zamboni came out around 3pm to smooth the ice. Food court - prices were pretty good for an indoor entertainment place without other food options close. Had the chicken fingers and fries and it was a good amount of food and tasted good. There are a good amount of things to do here so I would definitely recommend for a day out with the kids.

I love Riis Beach. I usually set up my beach chair and gear around pier 9. it's more family oriented. I'm not a big swimmer so cant say much about the water or surf. the place took a hit during super storm sandy but very slowly getting back on its feet. they need to upgrade the wifi. they now have food vendors that sell burgers, crab cakes, cheeses fries tacos and liquored up coconut drinks in the actual coconut. parking is $10 but the also offer a season pass for $65. its relatively kept clean and no glass allowed on the beach. they have grills and picnic tables available to first come beach goers.

The facility is and has been used by many city/government agencies (I took driver's training for the NYPD there over 30 years ago) There is a place called Aviator in Floyd Bennett Field, that has ice skating, gymnastics, a small gym and other activities including food. Many times throughout the year there are special events like carnivals, etc. Google asked me to rate this place because I was just picking up my child from sleep away camp. Most of the other buildings that are not in use need major repair work.

Floyd Bennett Field is a great place to relax and unwind away from busy New York City life. Be it a simple picnic, hiking, trekking or even simple camping. The nature of this place is mostly bushy. You won't find many trees around there. Certain areas you can't cross, because either it is bird conservation or restricted government areas (so be certain to check signs before you venture anywhere away from trails. Also it is a great place to learn how to drive for new drivers before they hit streets. Speed limit to drive a motor vehicle there is 25 miles per hour.

This is a free national park to fish and get away from the hassles of whatever. Its located at the end of Flatbush avenue just before the Far Rockaway marine bridge tolls. The entire park is part of the Gateway National park system and it used to be military air force base. They have an aerospace museum and lots of recreational activities including gardening.

I went for a recycling event to drop off some old electronic devices that you can't just put at the curb. It was about a 20 minute wait in the car. The event location was clearly marked & we just followed the signs. You have to take a car here, mainly for the means to lug the appliances but also the distances around Floyd Bennett field are long. One bummer is they did not take an old air conditioner because of the freons. Using 3-1-1 was not hard, and there was curbside pickup--but why couldn't that be incorporated into the recycling event?

Large undeveloped spaces, much preferable to me than most NYC's overdeveloped parks. It's great to see the mix of nature and urban decay, particularly how nature overtakes it. The vistas from the shorelines are great; I could easily see the Empire State Building and the Kennedy Control Tower from the same spot. Lots of shoreline to meander about as well as trails that go through areas of trees and shrubbery.

Floyd Bennett Field is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and offers a unique combination of buildings part of aviation history, trails for horses, bikes and more as well as serving as one of Brooklyn's biggest outdoor event spaces for events like the Color Run. It's a nightmare to access via public transportation but when I do get to visit, I enjoy exploring! PS: I still haven't gotten my national stamp, if anyone wants to drive there.

BEWARE OF TICKS! I'm not sure that I was actually in Floyd Bennett Field. I parked in a Floyd Bennett Field parking area and then my wife and I crossed Flatbush Ave. and walked to Glass Bottle Beach. The beach itself is really cool. It is littered with old glass bottles and you can find some great ones if you spend time looking for them. The beach is accessed by a well worn trail (that is flanked with more Poison Ivy than I've ever seen anywhere). Though we never ventured off the trail, upon returning to my car I inspected my wife and myself for hitchhikers and I found 3 ticks on my clothes and another on my wife's sock. I recommend wearing long pants and checking yourself thoroughly before leaving (Summer 2018 is a bad season for ticks due to the mild, wet winter preceding it).

The place is under funded and run down. The park police are abusive and not very helpful muy boss were flying a lie and the cop told them they could not fly them. A park ranger came by later and told us the cop was wrong, the rangers actually sell lies at the small park store.

Floyd Bennett Field is a highly underutilized Federal Park right here in Brooklyn New York. There are campsites available how many I don't know that you would have to look up. There's a group of people that fly very expensive model aircraft legally in the park. There's fishing bird watching and a number of seasonal events that take place year round. Do a little research and you'll find another green gem in the crown that is New York City

A great open space on the very South end of Brooklyn part of the Gateway National Parks. I use it mostly for biking because its easy to get to with a paved bike path that runs along side Flatbush Ave. that can be reached from the Rockaways, Canarsie, and just about anywhere via Flatbush Ave. Once inside its virtually car free with miles of open old runways (where Amelia Earhart once took off) to ride your bike. But also has open parking fields that people use to learn to drive. Into RC planes or cars? They have a RC flying area (must join flying club) and a really cool RC race track where racing events are held. Tuesday nights they have bike racing, though you have to join the bike club and pay a entry fee to race, but is free to watch. There are camping grounds for the outdoors and RV types and hanger B holds vintage aircraft. During the summer they have Kayak trips in Jamaica Bay. Events held here include county fairs, concerts, and recently the Tomato Battle! A great place to experience some great outdoor fun in the big city.

Floyd Bennett Field is one of my old stomping grounds. we always hung out here because it was desolate and basically abandoned. It's amazing what they've done with this land. Though I've moved away from the old neighborhood, I usually swing by when I'm in the area to marvel in the upgrades they've done with the place.
