Reviews of North Point Lighthouse
A great little spot packed with local history. Decently priced tickets, a must visit on any weekend visit. Be sure you're ready to climb up the lighthouse!
First light house ever to visit on the Great Lakes and was not disappointed. Its very well kept, views of the shoreline and Lake Michigan is well worth the climb. History told in museum is very interesting and staff were very helpful.
The christmas lights and the winter really make this place a different kind of beautiful.
Going back in aug. The staff was so sweet. Climbing the tower was so nice, and the stories of the light keepers were something i wish was taught more for kids in this area.
Hidden gem so fun! Don't pass up a tour by the volunteers climb the lighthouse too!
So awesome to see this piece of history all standing! So neat!
If you would like to see a great lake light house no easier one than the one at Lake Park
This is a pretty cool lighthouse. Its great to take photos of and it can be very photogenic too. It looks especially good against a blue sky.
One neat thing about the lighthouse is this little square place you can stand on. Then there is a round metal object that will show your image with the lighthouse behind you. This allows you to get your photos with the lighthouse if you are alone and don't have anyone to take your picture. I have used the device in the past.
Still most people walk right past the lighthouse. I think people who live nearby are used to it and see it all the time so its not really a popular location...or it wasn't today anyway.
During summer and autumn once the trees get the full set of leaves, you won't even be able to see the lighthouse from down on Lakeshore Drive. During the winter you can see it because the trees are bare...but you need to know where to look.
You can't go inside it or anything. You just look at the outside. There is an informational sign nearby and there is a hiking trail near the lighthouse too. A ravine trail. You can see the lighthouse from the trail down in the ravine.
I really didn't spend much time here at the lighthouse...just long enough to take some photos as there really wasn't anything to do and I wanted to explore the entire park.
The museum was closed when we went but we were able to look around.
Awesome history in the lighthouse, easy climb and beautiful view!
I love this place . It is so clean and well maintained. Still close for the season but worth the drive. The park beside it is beautiful also. Facing Lale Michigan. Right place to spend a quick lunch.
Fun place, friendly hosts. Go up the tower, there's a metal ladder at the very top for the upper access and it's a beautiful view. The area has a great walking trail too.
It's pretty phenomenal, even if it is hidden away in the trees up on the hill.
we sadly visited on a day where the museum or visiting center was closed and weren't able to visit inside. we only had a few hours to spend in milwaukee as we spent the day visiting from chicago. the lighthouse is a bit smaller than i expected but i'm sure it has played an important part of the town's history.
Great views from the light house.
I recommend doing the light house tour. Gives you a great view of the city and Lake Michigan. The museum was pretty cool too.
The Search for Wisconsin’s Lights
Since my arrival in Wisconsin four days ago, I am looking forward to some new discoveries in a state I vaguely know. One of the key things on my list will be the search for lighthouses along the lakes.
Today, my trek took me into Milwaukee County to view the 1888 North Point Lighthouse and climb the 84 steps. At first as I neared my destination, I thought my GPS got it all wrong when I viewed the splendid homes in the area. In the past, most of the lighthouses I found were located near vast wilderness of trees, rocky cliffs or at the end of breakers.
Before disappointment could set in, the gleaming white tower and museum appeared from the surrounding trees in the nearby park. It was 11 in the morning and the doors would not open until 1:00. I took the opportunity to get some great photos from different angles and to explore the grounds.
Located in an area called Lake Park, you feel as though you may be standing in New York’s Central Park. Fredrick Law Olmsted designed that famous landmark and that of the 1893 Chicago Exposition and was commissioned for the work of Lake Park. Lion Bridges join the north and south sections of the park as the lighthouse remains the beacon that overlooks Lake Michigan.
You will learn the history of several lighthouse keepers including Georgia Stebbins, a woman who is reported to have held the position the longest, tending to the light by climbing the stairs an estimated 63,800 times.
Overall: You are required to sign a waiver prior to climbing the lighthouse stairs. Don’t miss a short drive down to the lake for a relaxing view.
The lighthouse creates picturesque views of this part of Lake Park. There is an opportunity to enter the lighthouse for some exhibition and climb the stairs for the view from its top.
Beautiful grounds and scenery. Museum only open on Saturdays. Unfortunately we were there on a Wednesday. Great history here.
I enjoy walking around North Point Lighthouse. In front of the lighthouse in the summer the grass is green and lush, the perfect place for a picnic. On both sides of the lighthouse there are paths that take you down to the lakefront, and it is just lovely any season any time. It is the best at sunset or sunrise.
Beautiful lighthouse and a beautiful place to enjoy a casual stroll. Some of the best views from the city and and enjoyable drive to find this little gem.
Small lighthouse, well kept, tours available
Beautiful location. Plan to spend at least two to three hours here. The lighthouse is very well kept up. It's very clean. All the way around the gardens are beautiful. The have walking trails around the lighthouse beautiful bridges lions on the gates, cherry trees that go into bloom absolutely beautiful. The museum, it's totally worth the tour. You learn a lot about the lighthouse and the history of it, and it's absolutely beautifully put together all the way around five stars. I can't remember the name of the gentleman that helped us and the lady that gave us the tours. I feel so awful. They were so sweet to us and gave us some referrals to go see some other fun to her sites around the area as well. But one thing I have to say is make sure to pick up your light house passport. I think this is such a cool program to have. So as you two are the lighthouses you get stamps in your passport. And don't forget to count the steps on the way up to the lighthouse. We kind of forgot as soon as we got to the top cuz it was so mesmerizing
We came specifically when it should have been opened (Sunday 1-4pm), however, there was a sign at the doors that said "closed due to maintenance until 2022." Outside was very charming though!
Worth checking out easy Access from the road.
Very interesting. Read all the placards. The climb up the lighthouse was not extremely taxing. Do the self tour and leave a generous donation.
Great views, good tour, beautiful lands
Small but interesting museum in Lake Park. The climb to the top of the light house is well worth it. The view is fantastic. The only complaints I would have is the very limited hours, and maybe signage at the top of the tower limiting the number of people at the top, as there is very not a lot of space.
Stopped by on our way through. Easy access to view and take pictures. Beautiful property. Well worth the stop.
Beautiful place, the house was closed when I was there, but I still browse around for 30 min.(it was really cold), it was amazing experience.
Great time visiting the North Point Lighthouse on a Sunday afternoon. John the tour guide was super informative and open to answering questions despite us not being on a formal tour. Had a wonderful 20 minute conversation about the lighthouse and history of Milwaukee. It's great that they let you climb the lighthouse tower. Would recommend wearing good shoes since the highest point requires climbing a ladder. Gift shop prices were very reasonable. Mostly street parking but it wasn't an issue finding a spot.
Wonderful place to see and visit when visiting Milwaukee would definitely recommend having a look at this beautiful historical lighthouse well taken care of an the view of lake Michigan was great as well was a beautiful day and our first light house viewing as a family will definitely go again.
Absolutely gorgeous! Very well kept grounds. Beautiful walking area behind light house with lion statues and view of the lake!
Beautiful displays, interesting historical perspectives, great views from the lighthouse. Fun "field trip"!
Beautiful outside wasn't able to see the inside.
Light house...if you have small kids - its very interesting places for visit. Good location for walking trip to another interesting point - water tower.
Beautiful location! Fair priced. Neat to be able to climb to the top!
Beautiful light house specially if you visit after midnight. Some people believe it is haunted. Some others just take a walk around it and enjoy.
Lovely tour and museum!
Simple yet scenic
It was closed the day we was there but the lighthouse was beautiful. Wish it was still working
In a pretty park designed by the same person that designed New Yorks Central Park.
Beautifully restored and rebuilt lighthouse on the lake. Now a museum and event venue. Populr for weddings. Beautiful setting and beautiful building moved bck from original location on the bluff.
Such a fun experience! I recommend to anyone with a spare hour or so.
A nice visit before taking the Lake Express. Walking area and waterfall - when it works.
If you've never taken the tour, I highly advise that you do. Spectacular views fr.atop the lighthouse ❣❣
Beautiful location with a drive through mansions on the hill to get to the lighthouse with a great view of Lake Michigan. Parked in the lot at a nearby park and did a short easy walk over to the lighthouse. It wasn't open yet, while we were there, but was neat to walk around the outside and take an easy look around.
What a beautiful view of Lake Michigan....also a great place for a walk along the bluff, and a close look at the historic lighthouse. The main paved walk is a pleasant and quiet walk. Also wheelchair accessible.
So neat! I wish we would've checked to see when they're open instead of just showing up lol!
It's ok. For $8, going up into the actual lighthouse was not bad. This place is not that big at all but does have quite a bit of info available. The gift shop is minimal. There is a park and small golf course very near by that's nice. Great for pictures. I would visit again.
This is such a great place to visit! The climb is worth the view!!
I have a fascination with light house. They are so beautiful and what do is amazing
Scenic views from the light house. Be prepared to carry young children up to the top .
Seeing the lighthouse overlooking Lake Michigan is a very satisfying experience for me.
It was closed the day we went so we didn't get to go in it, but it looks great from the outside. The grounds around it are beautiful.
A very pretty hike to see this landmark.
Beautiful building from 1883 - great view over Lake Michigan and a nice park for a walk
I've been up in many light houses and was somewhat disappointed in the fact that the Beacon was no longer in tact. Also other's allowed me to go out on the catwalk and view the area. I was treated very cordially, and enjoyed visiting the museum. It's worth taking some time out to visit the North Point Lighthouse.
Nice little lighthouse tour and lovely garden around
Surprisingly extensive, interesting information for a small museum. Very well done and the views from the top of the lighthouse are awesome.
Pretty lighthouse. Too bad they charge $8.00 admission. No thank you
Awesome area. So much history, loved it.
Loved this lighthouse! Had an excellent time and climbed the tower!
One word , beautiful. That's all I can say
It was beautiful, a lot of people was out. I saw a couple taking wedding pics. I was just down there catching Pokemon. The atmosphere was wonderful.
The lighthouse is located in Lake Park just off Wahl St. along Lake Michigan in Glendale, Wis. The historic lighthouse was originally built in 1855 and replaced in 1888. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a small fee to tour the lighthouse and the museum...well worth it. There are walking trails in back of the structure which will take you through a beautiful park along the lake cliffs. The parking is good there are clean restrooms available.
Volunteers were so friendly and accommodating. Our tour guide did a great job telling us the history of this museum and lighthouse. Climb to the top was a real workout but glad we did. Kids really enjoyed it.
Beautiful old lighthouse ... riveted steel I think. Very interesting. Lovely grounds.
We visited on a beautiful, sunny, spring day. The lighthouse is in a great shape, you can climb up on the spiral stairs and see the museum downstairs as well. We were greeted kindly and got a tour which we enjoyed very much. Everyone is really nice.
The North Point Lighthouse is a beautiful gem. I had never been there, but decided to do the tour when friends asked me to go with. Surround by trees and landscaping, overlooking the lake, it was easy to forget you were in the middle of the city. The lighthouse might not look that tall, but when you take the winding walk up to the top, you find that it is taller than expected, and well worth it. The view from above is amazing. Highly reccommend!
Nicely preserved lighthouse in the center of a lovely lakefront park. Well worth the time to visit.
Well kept landmark with rather interesting history. Worth a visit!
I really enjoyed it! It was quiet and since it was Monday, a handful of people were in the area (Lighthouse was closed to public, but that was ok). Lawn and flower beds were well groomed. I thought the selfie spot was neat. Definitely a cute tourist spot in the area.
Very beautiful. Nestled in historic homes district. Worth visiting.
Lovely trails. You can take multiple pictures in different scenes. No public bathrooms after Labor Day
Nice view of Michigan lake
Great place to visit for a few minutes, or the whole day! Beautiful gardens with resident rabbits and other wildlife. Amazing architecture throughout the grounds, including the adjacent Lake Park.
This is a very beautiful lighthouse to visit. We enjoyed our time here during the Harley Davidson 105th anniversary. This is one of my favorite side trips from the rally as a getaway from the crowd. I would recommend this as a destination for anyone visiting Milwaukee.
I look forward to seeing the North Point lighthouse every time I walk through lake park. It's white color really stands out in the park. You can see it whichever direction you are coming from.
We went back to visit after we stopped there for the first time for our wedding pictures 12 years ago. Beautiful park. We took our bikes this time and rode the trails.
Lovely lighthouse, nicely renovated :)
Beautiful park and lighthouse! I missed the tour by 15 mins and I was sad. I will go back for the tour! There was a wedding going on behind the lighthouse and I didn't want to interrupt so I didn't see all of the grounds yet either.
Neat lighthouse in the Lakefront park. The building is open only on weekends. The staff is very knowledgable and eager to give a tour of all the displays. The tower actually has an older portion on a newer base. The tower is not to bad to climb, and there is a ladder to get to the very top. There is also a greenhouse effect at the very top. The fog can roll in very quickly.
Simply the best. Gorgeous and photogenic even when it's closed, but so much more educational when it's open! They have fun gifts in the shop, and of course the view from the top is breathtaking.
Smart cities take care of their landmarks. This is just one around Milwaukee that is worth visiting. While there, take time to stroll the beautiful path behind it with scenic views of the lake. Then take a slow drive around the neighborhood and admire the gorgeous old homes that are so well taken care of.
The Old Water Tower we passed on the way was more visually striking
This is a wonderful place near downtown Milwaukee that you need to go visit? The views of the lake from the front yard are magnificent. The lighthouse itself has a lengthy history. It's another great place buy a Great Lake.
Beautiful historic place. Lots of lighthouse background and good landscaping surrounded by a woods and the lake, of course. We even saw a hummingbird! Busy place is even rented out for weddings and other events.
Beautiful Lighthouse situated next to abundant line of trees with a nice overlook of Lake Michigan and surrounding parks. The lighthouse is well kept, it has friendly staff and provides great scenery for photography enthusiasts.
View from the lantern 🏮 room looking south over the bay of Milwaukee …
Fantastic lighthouse and staff. Maintained very well. Adjacent trail down to the beach.
A very cute remnant of Great Lakes maritime history. The lighthouse is well preserved, and it's something that even most Milwaukeans are not aware of. Maybe they are, but I didn't go to elementary school here, so I never visited it on a field trip. It's a great spot for a walk and for selfies, right next to a park that was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park in New York City. Old winding walkways and scenic views of Lake Michigan.
Great place to go for a walk in the city
Fascinating! Who knew Milwaukee had such an interesting history when it came to Lake Michigan. They views were nice at the top of the lighthouse, even though we were in a little cramped room. We had to climb a thin ladder up to the top which made it even more the fun. Must see in Milwaukee!
A unique and interesting experience. Doesn't take a lot of time so it can be paired with other activities in the area.
A beautifully kept lighthouse. Not open to public, but beautiful on the outside. Great place to stop and visit and take pictures.
Very cool place a must stop very informative and support for the country lighthouses.
Gorgeous place to see any season
Nice park to walk through. Not too much to see, but there were a lot of people taking pictures (wedding, glamour shots, etc.). Didn't go into the lighthouse, but it was nice to visit from the outside.
Beautiful place in a beautiful park.
Great place to learn some Milwaukee history! The actual lighthouse is cool, but a bit tough to get up! Kids might be a little scared! Great place to visit!
Nice museum and friendly staff
The lighthouse has a unique shape, you are allowed to go all the way to the top. The whole area is beautiful and peaceful with mile of hiking by the lake
Lighthouses are my favorite!
Awesome place to visit and great views the gardens around it are beautiful! We even got in free because of my military veteran status. Really enjoyed our visit!
Great airspace show near this area!
It's very nice.. Would of loved to see it when it worked.
We were here while they were closed unfortunately, but the exterior is breathtaking. We will definitely be going back during operating hours on our next visit to Milwaukee.
My wife and I and 2 kids 8 & 12 stopped while in WI from Oh and liked it . It is a little pricey just to climb allot of steps and look out side for a few minutes ,expecially for kids that may not even gob the entire way as we saw happen
Nice little place but the staff is what really makes a place feel homey
They found out we were from south dakota and they stayed a bit longer to show us around and that was more than I can say cause we definitely appreciated that for sure
Fun place to visit. Nice decorated area to walk through with a good view of the water and beach below.
Historic North point light house is currently alight for the holidays. A beautiful park to walk in while we await true winter.
I didn't get a chance to go inside but the building is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. I'd love to stop by again when they're open.
Great lighthouse museum, the view is wonderful.
The women working there were very knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. The view was pretty from top and the museum was very interesting.
I just love lighthouses just too bad the museum was closed.
Really interesting history of North Point Lighthouse and ships of Lake Michigan. Beautiful views and fun climbing up the lighthouse steps.
Very well maintained! Nice place to visit or just stop by for some quick pics.
The history was amazing, as was the view!
Great place to visit in Wisconsin... A must if you are exploring... Sorrounding area is super amazing as well
A fantastic hidden Milwaukee spot! Its a relaxing walk with a few lake views, overall a great escape from the east side hustle and bustle.
The grounds were well maintained. The light house was beautiful. Love the selfy globe.
This place is good for any kind of visit. It is very beautiful and it's a good idea to stop in the little museum-like building.
My family & I take all of summer walks in the evening along this street. It NEVER gets old. Although I luv the Fall, I'm bummed to see summer end.😒 …
We were hiking through the area and stopped to read about water retention construction that had been added.
I loved the tour and its history. I got amazing views of 3 major cities and great pictures!
Awesome place to visit. House tour unavailable right now but definitely a place I would visit again.
Went to the lighthouse for a lecture. Excellent historical location. Will try to go to the to of the tower next time
One of my favorite places in the city! If you go you'll want a membership so you can go all year long!
Wonderful place to take pictures. Took my sons prom pictures here and they turned out great.
Hello,
Thanks for checking in with me and reading my comments about my adventures. 🙋
We had such a fantastic time …
This is a great landmark for the city and history of Lake Michigan. And goes without saying, a view from above like no other.
DESCO (Diving Equipment & Supply Company) was founded in 1937 to manufacture diving equipment developed by Max Nohl and Jack Browne. Max Nohl was a marine engineer in Milwaukee, educated at MIT, and the holder of a diving depth record (420 feet) he set in Lake Michigan on December 1, 1937.
Very nice property on the lake Michigan shoreline. Lighthouse was not open during the weekday afternoon we were there (Oct).
A beautiful setting...lighthouse, park, trails, etc. Will definitely come back here again next summer.
If you are in the area, stop by...the lighthouse charges a fee - but you can enjoy the view from the outside without having to pay
Beautiful area near the lakefront
Tucked in a beautiful neighborhood North of Milwaukee, it's preserved and maintained really well.
Opened to visitors on certain days.
Lovely hike!
One of my fav spots in Mke, great area for a walk that leads to lakefront. Next to a beautiful gold course
Nice area for walking. I wish the side walks could be re done on the outer path.
Nice park for a walk with the kids
Nice area to walk. Take the ravine trails if not too muddy.
Just a nice quiet well kept attraction I didn't have to stand in line for hours to enjoy.
Absolutly beutiful trail I wasn't there in time to see the musium though
Beautiful venue for a beautiful wedding! The staff was so helpful in making our wedding perfect!
Such a cool site. Definitely worth stopping by and taking some pictures of!

very nice light house along historic and scenic walking path
Beautiful old light, landscaping could use some work, but very nice!

Expensive to go in for what it is. Nice to see just from the outside tho. Nice park area.
Looked cool, wasn't open when I visited midday but the area was nice
Must see at least once! Great historic Milwaukee fixture.
Havent stopped and visited but looks beautiful from a passing specialy in fall.

Fantastic program, and fantastic speaker
Good experience. Easy to get to. Parking was free. Tickets were 9 dollars for adults. Took about 1.5 hours to walk the area and go through the museum. We did walk away to the North as well so the total time was about 2 hours. The top has a ladder which wasn't bad. We did sign a waiver. All in all a great experience. With a nice view. Displays in the museum are well done.
(Translation) I left a pin 📍 on the world map in commemoration of being the first person to visit from Japan. The lighthouse was a little tough with stairs and ladders, but the view of Lake Michigan is worth it.

日本から訪れた最初の人になってしまいました❗️記念に世界地図にピン📍を残して来ました。灯台は階段と梯子でちょっとキツかったけど、ミシガン湖の景色は一見の価値があります。
