Reviews of Milwaukee County Historical Society
Hans Johnson
Three stars but part of that is on me for not looking at their website beforehand. I assumed there would be a permanent exhibit on the history of Milwaukee. No, they have long term exhibits on different aspects of the city. The current one is on Milwaukee and beer, something that doesn’t interest me that much. Friendly staff and an interesting building.

Wonderful spot for a friend's Bat Mitzvah we attended. Great space and lots of history to learn about MKE in days gone by. I would have an event here anytime!
Cat Hanson
I attended a wedding for one of my good friends over the weekend and was absolutely stunned. It was such a beautiful space, and everyone was super helpful and knowledgeable. I am even happier with how an incident that conspired at the wedding was handled after the fact. The staff, and Jamie especially, have shown that they really care about their patrons. I cannot recommend this venue enough, and hope to return soon!

The beauty of the historical society building in downtown Milwaukee meant we didn't have to do a lot of setup to make it shine. Jamie was incredibly easy to work with and coordinated with our vendors to ensure everything came together. Would highly recommend!
Bobbie H
Unique experience. Such incredible history, elegant and a beautiful view. Learned so many neat things in the process. Go learn about the moonshine mama; you'll love it!
Will Cappon
Great exhibit on the history of beer production in Milwaukee. And more importantly, a great organization!
Don Byrne
Great place to find the history of beer brewing in Wisconsin.
Ryan Peschman
Very beautiful building. I wish we still made beautiful buildings like this.
Ellis
Love this old building! Wonderful photos and history on the walls. Nice little gift shop. Will return!

Friendly and helpful staff, rotating exhibits, and a great location all recommend this place. I am going there primarily to access the archives for a personal project and Steve, the archivist, has gone above and beyond to assist me. I was leery about making my first appointment due to experiences at other places with staff that almost crossed their eyes looking down on me as a dilettante hobbyist but that most definitely did not happen here!
Masks were required and are now requested if you have not been vaccinated. Capacity for the archives is limited and you must make an appointment. There is a great riverside park just outside the door with picnic tables and an active boat launch site.

Went here for a wedding reception.
Gorgeous interior. They had the safes open for us which were fun to peek around inside.
Greg Waniorek
Was there for a wedding reception kind of loud hard to hear, neat venue

We visit local historical museums all over the country as we travel but have never been here before. The building is impressive but sadly some of the lights were turned off and we could not see certain exhibits. More explanations are needed and better signage would help the visitor. Many exhibits were so low to the floor we were unable to see them.
Julie Robledo
It's a very beautiful historic site with historical artifacts. The inside is absolutely beautiful with black and white marble walls, pillars, and gold detailing. It is very informative and interesting and does catch the attention of children. 7 dollars for adults and children 13 and under are free.

Just being able tI see this building having been brought back to the grandeur of its Victorian roots is a dream come true. At this time, it's used mostly as a rented venue for weddings , parties, etc. And obviously they have to be smart about raising funds for the work necessary for the restoration. My hope is that eventually the venue will do more to attract the public and teach us about our rich history. Go see it. It's amazing.

Only takes a quick visit. Interesting exhibit. Ambience is very cool in this turn of the century bank. It's been restored including the vaults. It's a great walk in and quick visit museum. Recommended.

Great place for lovers of history. It's always a good idea to know where have you been to know where will you be. Plus, you'll like the architecture of this place. An extra plus, the attendant is really really nice
Kenny Strege
Me and my son went to the Milwaukee County Historical Society to donate a book that was written by a mayor from the early 1900 century. This book was written in 1910 a first edition and signed by the author. The staff seem to be very knowledgeable on this individual and was very grateful for our donation.
Old Mke
Another must-see if you are interested in history... In this case, the history of Milwaukee county.
We stopped in during one of the "excess stock sales" and had a blast digging thru the old books, post cards and photos.
What a blast from the past!
Erich Heppner
My wife and I went to the Historical Society for a wedding and it was absolutely GORGEOUS! The old bank vaults, marble floors, and high ceilings creates such an elegant space.
Dennis Kois
Fun and very interesting current exhibit on professional sports history in MKE, with a bit of college sports on the side. Heavy (and excellent) on Braves baseball and others are covered as well. Worth a stop and consider a membership to support their telling of MKE’s past. ⚾️
Paul Shinkle
This small museum is wonderfully well curated. The $5 admission fee makes it a no excuses must see when you're in MKE.
Keith Schroeder
Very cool, old building. There was one featured display. Hardly worth the $7.00 admission, meter parking and the hassle of dealing with the downtown area.
Joann Werner
Beautiful. There for a wedding. Not enough seating & air conditioning was not very effective.
Liz Arveson
Beautiful for a wedding venue!
Kathy Wilson
Quality museum. I went on a Saturday morning and they were setting up for a wedding later in the day so didn't even charge me admission just asked me to consider making a donation.

Nice place to visit, but don't hold a wedding there because you can't hear a thing. The Acoustics are terrible.
