Venice Canals is most definitely a must see if you happen to be in the area! It is such a beautiful and peaceful place to be walking around. The canals are so beautiful with the unique bridges, the houses are all so uniquely cute. A great place to be!

I love this place , many pretty colors, plants and flowers even the houses alongside the canal with their colors patio sets of chairs . It's nice and quiet for a walk with your dog and kids. They filmed the movie Valentines Day here I remember Ashton Kutcher on that bridge heartbroken 💔. It's a nice stop and stretch your leg from driving along the PACIFIC coast of California. I highly recommend . Venice Beach is at the end of the canal . ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️

A visit to Venice is not complete without a stroll along these stunningly beautiful, almost always sunny canals. It's a great place for a walk and admire the palm trees, the cute little houses, the perfect reflections... If I can be honest, however, I get tired and bored pretty quickly. Everything is pretty much man made, it pleases the eyes not the mind or heart.

Lovely to walk through during the holiday season. Definitely less confusing than Venice in Italy. Some people decorate with lights and others don’t. Dog friendly and parking nearby. Nice to stroll at night. Free, so good for a pass time.

Very nice and cozy spot. Quiet and peaceful. It has a little sidewalk to walk around and enjoy the scenery especially while jogging. this is really nice area to live in with a few minutes walk to the beach. However, I lowkey feel bad that this is also part of someones backyard.

Beautiful and clean canals! They don’t stink. Its a nice place to spend some quality time. I saw a lot of people talking strolls, walking their dogs.. There multiple points from where you can enter and exit the canals.. The houses along the canals are beautiful. Good photo-ops. Best time to visit is during the day and early evening.

The Venice canal are some the most interesting place to know at the Los Angeles city. This area of Los Angeles have a lot of houses in small places, most of them near to those canals, with walks between them and the houses. Many of them are beautiful and stylish, with beautiful flower gardens, hottubs, barbecue grills etc. Over the canals also have beautiful bridges with arch forms, for use of cars and people. Certainly it is a good place to go, use spare times and enjoy it. I recommend it.

Sneak away from Venice Beach and discover the sequestered world of the Venice Canals. It's honestly such a great spot to take a special someone - to walk around and enjoy the clear reflective water. During Christmas time, it's even more beautiful! Also you can glance at all the houses along the canal which you would probably cannot afford (or at least I can't).

The canals are a hidden gem. I've been here a couple of times and never see people walking around. It is a beautiful place to see in person as well as to take pictures. There are so many good spots. A plus is that it's free. The only bad thing is the parking, you're lucky if you find one on the stree, you really have to look for it or park in a parking lot.

We came here while on a tour of LA and it was really fascinating to see these canals. The roads here are crazy narrow! Almost scary trying to go on the bridges. I see why many people have bikes and skateboards. It is worth a visit though, because you can walk by the homes and see the designs up close. Very beautiful.

The Venice Canals is a beautiful and unique destination in Los Angeles that is definitely worth a visit. The area is also easy to access, with plenty of free parking available on 28th Avenue. I don't even know where to start with the Venice Canals. Every house is uniquely special-from the custom mansions to the smaller, faded cottages with vegetable gardens and paper lanterns. The day we went was cloudy and cold, but that only added to the whole experience. The residents (and possibly some non-residents) were having a concert IN the Canals...just floating around having live music with dinner or wine. Very festive!! I really enjoyed venturing around here. It's one of those kinda neighborhoods where you see something new on every trip. And everyone was friendly-even all the animals I stopped to meet. There were plenty of locals and tourists out with us, but it wasn't crowded. Add this gentle walk to your list for a romantic evening wander or a thoughtful Sunday morning stroll.

A visit to the Venice Canals is perfect to pair with a visit to Venice Beach. It wasn't crowded and its absolutely beautiful. It is a long walk to cover the entire area, but it does get boring after a while. It's definitely a great spot for some bomb photos...I felt like I was actually in Venice😍.

This is such a beautiful spot to visit and canals are close to the Venice beach. The entryway to this canal district is kinda tricky, so using Google maps would be nice. Walking along the canals, and seeing the unique houses with different designs and decors are nice.

Lovely spot right by Venice Beach. It is shaded in several areas and there are paths on both sides. You can spend probably an hour here leisurely walking around.

I've always wanted to visit this place. The way to the entrance gets ruined a little bit with the homeless encampments lined up accross the streets. The place is huge and you be walking a lot. It does get redundant after seeing a few blocks and bridges. The place is quiet and the people who live there are very cordial. An interesting place to check out at forst but I don't think you'll visit it again after. Venice beach boardwalk is just a few blocks away though.

Entering this canal area automatically muted the noice from automobile. It was quiet. I appreciated the neighbors yard landscaping and decoration. It is early summer. The water level of the canal already low, but still able to see plam tree reflection. It is worth to come take photo and even sketching.

Its a beautiful place to visit if one happens to be in the area. Great for peaceful walks and some pictures, not overcrowded. Many small boats and ramps were around,probably like private boat launches. Many bridges which were wonderfully decorated with holiday lights. Note that it seems like a private area built for the house around it, so please keep privacy of the houses in mind.

Been to Venice Beach many times, however not to the canals area. To my surprise it was a pleasant experience. I walked along the canals with some friends and crossed the many bridges that are laid out across the entire canals area. A gem not so hidden in the Venice Beach City.

Cool area close to Los Angeles. It’s very beautiful here and it typically doesn’t get very crowded so you have plenty of time to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There is also plenty of places to park and if you can’t find parking just wait a bit as it’s a place that people don’t spend too much time and you will eventually find a spot.

What a peaceful place! So quite you can hear yourself think. I went alone around 6PM on a Monday so it looked almost abandoned and the timing was just perfect for late afternoon walk. The water was so still and I found peace just starring at it over the bridge. Beautiful place to visit.

Right in the center of Santa Monica, this place stole my heart for its architect as well as serenity. A must visit local tourist attraction if you’re in the area. There are a lot of rental/Airbnb properties and I saw a lot of tourist doing boat rides and kayak in this canal.

A Beautiful place to walk around enjoying different building architectures .. The view is awesome and it gives a real feel of walking in Venice , but very much in California. We went there in the evening and it was wonderful to see the beautiful reflection on the clear canals. The public also are had good behaviour and not photo bombing our pictures. They gave decent amount of time for us to capture th pure beauty. We will definitely visit it again. The parking was available near the beach and we walked from there .. a wonderful must place to see in Los Angeles California.

We had a quick walk after dinner at Venice Beach. Place is pretty romantic with many walking bridges to hang out, and take good Pictures. Be mindful and respect privacy of people living in the neighborhood.

Venice Canals is a nice residential area with a very heterogenous housing structure. Most villas look very pretty and the owners spend a lot of thought on their gardens. Great to see the different styles on these canal houses. Worth looking at it. A lot of change happening at the momentSome don't seem to have the resources to keep up. Some owners pledge they have too many homeless in the area comparesd to other LA areas. Just outside you see 10 tents in which people 'reside'. We were there at midday when tide was low.

Its a nice walk if you wanna see expensive homes with nice backyards. No electric scooters lime stops a few min away. people like taking photos on the bridges. One was lit up the gratitude bridge. Bring water and snacks no public bathrooms nearby and restaurants are a 10min walkaway. View is nicer during the day. at night only when lit. It's dark and good lighting depends on if the home owners willing to turn their lights on. Not much here tbh it's just ok. See the ocean instead

Been there couple of times. Always liked it, the small boats in those canals looks beautiful but the only problem is the uncleanliness of the canals due to the stagnant water. However, you can enjoy the place walking over the small bridges.

Visit Venice CA. While your there Don’t miss the Venice Canals ! Such a beautiful place. Grab a snack and take a walk. Check it out during Halloween ! Wiki History : the canals were almost doomed. Wiki says: By the 1920s, with cars quickly gaining popularity, the canals were viewed by many as outdated, and as a result a number of canals were filled in 1929 to make room for paved roads. By 1940 the remaining canals had fallen into disrepair, and the sidewalks were condemned by the city.[2] The district remained in poor condition for more than 40 years; numerous proposals to renovate the canals failed due to lack of funding, environmental concerns, and disputes as to who should bear the financial responsibility. The canals were finally renovated in 1992; they were drained, and new sidewalks and walls were built. The canals re-opened in 1993, and have become a desirable and expensive residential section of the city.

The Venice Canals are a short walk from Venice Beach, and provide a unique location for a relaxing stroll. Parking can be a bit tricky, but there is a lot on the corner of South Venice Blvd. and Pacific Ave. The lot was full so we ended up parking at a 2-hr. meter on Washington Blvd. and walking over. This gave us plenty of time to walk around. The kids enjoyed going up and over the arch bridges that span the canal, and even put their hands up like it was a roller-coaster. We saw ducks, other birds, and butterflies. The walkways were a bit narrow, but we still managed with a stroller. Bikes are not allowed, and the general consensus is no boating for visitors. Home owners have their boats, but there are no rentals. After doing some reading, it seems possible to bring your own, but as this is a residential area it is probably best to choose another area for that. I’d hate for it to become an issue with the residents, and ruin it for everyone. Enjoy the out of the country feel, and peaceful vibes while walking the canals instead. I do want to go back to check out Linnie Canal Park, which has a playground.

Nice leisure walk but walkway is very narrow. Depending on the time of day could be busy. I suggest going before or after a getting a bit to eat. Also add this walk to your list of activities if you are visiting the Marina.

It is a unique experience especially with a city that is so busy around you, one right turn and you enter Venice Canals where serenity takes over. Try and visit closer to sunset and you get some amazing views from the canals. The houses lining up the streets and enviously beautiful.

A delightful place to take a walk during golden hours. This is a very nice neighborhood. Each year there is Christmas light show and parade here during the holiday season. Due to the pandemic, this year’s light show is cancelled. But it is still beautiful here at the golden hours. For many tourists who come to visit LA, Venice Canals is one of the must visit places. The sunset is beautiful here. With the water reflections of the sunset in the canals, the scenery is unbelievable beautiful. It’s a great opportunity to take pictures here to keep your memories of LA visit. Even for locals like myself, I have taken a lot of pictures of the Canals. Every time you come here, you can always discover a different angle to take pictures. Parking here is easy. Just find one of the alleys and park along the narrow alley streets. After the walk around the Canals, you can always just drive down to the famous Venice beach. The drive to the beach is just a short couple of minutes

It's a nice and quiet residential area. Felt like all those tourists were intruding the privacy of the residents, plus clicking pics of their balconies, terraces etc. Nothing special if you've been to Amsterdam or Venice. Pleasant for a nice stroll around the canals. Parking is tricky to find on the streets. Better to park it at Venice beach parking and walk to the canals.

AMAZING!!! I've been going to Venice Beach since I was a very young child and only after 4 decades did I even hear a rumor that it once had canals like Venice, Italy. I thought it was an interesting story and when my sister had a Zoom birthday party for my nephew from my cousins place at the canals, it didn't really sink in until the next day. She called my cousin, and we're there the following day. On the way there, I anticipated going somewhere far away from anywhere familiar but no. In fact, only blocks away from a very familiar Venice Beach was a hidden world more beautiful than anything place I've seen in Los Angeles, in a very long time. I had the best day I've had in a very long time, also. Mostly from the company but the beautiful backdrop of the canals totally enhanced the experience. It feels like I was let in on a great secret world within my hometown and I feel special. However, the traffic reminds me I am still in LA but it is, in fact, worth seeing regardless.

Located fairly close to Venice Beach, these Italian-inspired artificial canals were built in 1905/1906, with sidewalks and bridges for pedestrians. They were deemed a Historic Cultural Monument in 1983. In 1993 the existing canals were refurbished, with foot bridges and sidewalks being rebuilt. The canals are on the National Register of Historic Places, and the neighborhood is a National Historic District. I went in July & saw ducks floating underneath the bridge I was standing on, so they were in existence there when I went. I do feel like it is overhyped by the locals. If you own a house here, I'm sure it's a cute/nice topic to bring up to others, but from a tourist POV, it wouldn't have been worth the extra walking/drive, had we not already been down here in the area for other things. Wouldn't recommend for a place to explore, but if you find yourself in the area and have already paid for parking elsewhere, the walk isn't too bad. 💫My review would have been 4 stars, due to the history or it, but I went with 3 stars due to my personal experience overall.💫

It’s one of the most charming spots in the city. It has so many beautiful houses along the walk, which is really unique. It’s also really close to the beach, so if you find a spot to park your car by the beginning of the canal, you’ll be able to have a nice walk around Venice.

Lovely place. Be respectful. These are homes of people. Be quiet. This is a nice area, no bikes allowed around here but walking works just fine. Most everything could fit a wheelchair if needed but there are some steep hills in some areas.

Nice Place. Early morning walk should be great experience. 2-4 minutes walk to the beach. Water was not maintained well. Was still and little dirty. But still good place to checkout. Saw it in some hollywood movie also. Overall great experience..!!

Was a great place for an afternoon walk. Parking was a bit troublesome but the neighborhood was absolutely adorable and just as cute as the movies make it look! My favorite house looked like it belonged in Snow White instead of California!! Some of the unique boats were so cool! Plus my daughters fell completely in love with the spiderweb covered swan boats!!

COME HERE DURING CHRISTMAS!! These residents go ALL OUT! They know they have an amazing place to live and they definitely share the love! The decorations are gorgeous and the bridges are all decorated differently! Dress warm and pack up the kids or just have a romantic date night with your partner ! Grab some hot chocolate before you come and stroll through the canals and enjoy the lights!

This place was really neat. I thought you could ride in a little gondola or boat around the canals, but that's for the homeowners. There is no place to ride any around. All the houses have little docks and boats to ride around the canals. If you walk the canal route correct, you can walk the entire thing in one loop without back tracking. The houses on the canals are amazing! The backyards are unique also. We really enjoyed looking at the yards and houses as well as the gorgeous canals. It's a little over 2 miles to walk the entire route without back tracking. It's a nice and quiet walk. You can take your dogs, just make sure to clean up after them. The residents have signs asking to clean up after pets. No bike riding is allowed on the walkway.

Very peaceful place...very nice...if you like to have a venice feel and a fan of kayaking, it's a must go...also definitely go to near by venice beach which is also near by..sunset is awesome at the beach...COVid arrangement is worst...if you are near by...don't go by car.... parking is very expensive....but overall it's a very nice beach and venice like feeling If you are big fan of canals

I went on a late weekday afternoon and it was just beautiful! Even on a overcast day in Venice. The sidewalk is quite narrow but luckily it wasn't crowded so I was able to take my time walking through the canal. There is public parking close by ($10 flat rate, could vary on weekends and holidays). Highly recommend spot to check out.

Absolutely gorgeous, especially if you visit at sunset. The only issues I had were dog poop and an angry tenant warning us about calling the cops if we broke glass. There are a lot of people visiting, even on weekdays, so taking pictures feels awkward and rushed.

This area was so calm and peaceful. Nice to walk, nice houses and there were ducks! Aisle little bit narrow but it doesn’t matter. And there’s house is real which people live in there. So who visit here should not interrupt them and there property.

Nice Venice like houses and canal, getting here is tricky though too much of traffic. We parked on South Venice Street and then walked around Dell street which has many of these canals. The view is ok, I mean I felt it's overhyped and it only looks good in photos.

Such a weird project, but definitely worth a walk through this interesting area. Though I didn’t get the feeling that the locals were too pleased about us enjoying the views. The water is shallow and not that great, but some interesting water craft, nice gardens and just general strangeness make it worth coming here at least once

It was very pretty; The weather kind of supported our trip. It’s easily accessible from Venice beach. So if you’ll are heading up to Venice beach, this is another place to go. There’s not much to do here, however, apart from photo session if you aren’t staying here!

Sadly, the day I was here, it was pretty hot, however I still enjoyed the stunning views and the beautiful homes that surround the Venice Canals. And all without the stench of the Actual Venice Canals. Worth the drive just for the pic opportunity!

Definitely worth the visit! This has to be in your LA list. It is a 25 minute walk if you walk across the Venice Boardwalk. The canals are dirty but it's worth strolling around the place for a bit, looking at the absolutely stunning houses by its side.

A nice walk along the streets which goes parallel to the canals. The houses around are beautiful. When you are around surely stop by and spend at least 30 minutes walking along the peaceful canals. Finding a parking could be difficult. Otherwise just get here stress free and enjoy the walk. This place also reminded me of many hollywood movies and TV series which were shot here.

This is such a beautiful place to visit located close to the Venice beach. The entryway to this canal district is through a narrow alley between two houses. You can walk to this place from the beach and if you follow Google maps navigation to get here, you will arrive perfectly. I will highly recommend walking along the canals, seeing the cute houses - each one with a different architecture or decor style, the outdoor gardens are a visual delight and of course, the lovely bridges.

I love this part of LA! You can just walk and stroll along the water for a while and completely forget that you are in the middle of an extremely busy city. Each front yard is very well manicured and the water is surprisingly clear and clean, free of sewage smell. I highly recommend stopping by, it is a must-do!

Beautiful place to walk around and take in the pretty sites. I think the water is low during the off season but still very attractive area. A lot of the houses have wonderful flowers growing along the fronts of their homes. The canals are such that they're layed out in a grid pattern. It's nice to walk down one way, cross over a bridge and then walk back up the other side. Then you can repeat that process again for each of the remaining fingers. NOTE: No motorized scooters allowed...You must walk this area since the houses sit so close to the water, the sidewalks are very narrow! I recommend it if you like quiet walks with manicured gardens.

Truly one of the terrific hidden places along the west side. The Venice boardwalk is oh yeah crowded Beachside seeing lots of multi trade shops this is just a couple yards away to the East and is a little quiet Paradise off the main streets located just east of Pacific between Venice Boulevard and Washington Boulevard is just a lovely way to walk around and look at the sites much of this quaint Cottages have been Mansion eyes but there are still several than his places and some of the new ones are interesting you can see every form of architect for residential affluence all within a 5-minute straw. Lots of very well fed Ducks here

A backdrop for many shows set in the area (especially recognizable from "Californication") these canals are connected by a set of sidewalks and bridges. It's a very beautiful walk, and there are all sorts of cool examples of local architecture. Speaking of locals, they are very friendly too. It's not unusual to run into someone just enjoying a beautiful day in Southern California on their porch. A great diversion if you have already hit the beach and boardwalk. Just remember that people live here, so be polite, clean, and please don't trespass onto their property.

If you go to Vegas and you end up at the Venetian... And you happen to be they're with somebody special... Then after you visit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum you have to take a ride in an authentic Venetian gondola. It's about $80 for a couple but totally worth the experience. Tray elegant!!! And the gondola drivers are hilarious. If you don't make it to Venice in your lifetime this will be the closest you'll get to the real thing. Super cool!

The canals are roughly bounded by Eastern Court on the east, Court A on the south, Strongs Drive on the west, and Court E on the north. There are four east-west canals (Carroll Canal, Linnie Canal, Howland Canal, and Sherman Canal) and two north-south canals (Eastern Canal and Grand Canal). The lit canals with gondoliers and arched bridges drew widespread publicity and helped sell lots in the development. By the 1920s already well into the age of the automobile as cars were quickly and increasingly gaining popularity the canals were viewed by many as outdated, and as a result a number of canals of the original network were filled in 1929 to make room for paved roads. By 1940, the remaining canals had fallen into disrepair, and the sidewalks were condemned by the city.[2] The canal district remained in poor condition for more than 40 years, as numerous proposals to renovate the canals failed due to lack of funding, environmental concerns, and disputes as to who should bear the financial responsibility. The canals were finally renovated in 1992, with the canals being drained and new sidewalks and walls being built. The canals re-opened in 1993 and have become a desirable and expensive residential section of the city.

i hadn't come here in over 10 years and it was a great visit when i did come back. the parking is a bit difficult to find but if you stay diligent you will. i suggest parking down the street or even a couple blocks away as driving through the canals kills the experience in my opinion. I was so happy to stumble upon the canals when I was heading to Muscle Beach. There was lots of street parking nearby. The canals were decorated for Christmas and so cool to see. I'd love to come back on a sunny day in the summertime to see it again! Highly recommend a quick visit. You can also rent tons of those electric scooters in the area to cruise around.

Great view of the man made canals. Can walk along the small sidewalk, cross bridges and take pictures. Some hotels/airbnb's no doubt around this area. Scenic and a site to see if you're visiting the city. We parked by Abbot Kinney (by Inteligensia coffee) and walked to the canals. Probably the best decision because parking can be tricky. Update: We went to the Venice Canals in Feb 2019, and they were looking pretty weak. There isn't a lot of water and the canals seemed to have dried up, leaving some boats and canoes on soil (see pic). I was shocked to see this.

Nice place to take a stroll if you're in the area, it's only like 10 minutes from the beach and isn't too overrun by tourists either. The canals are part of the residential area with houses all around, so I'm not sure if the canals are necessarily an attraction in the traditional sense, but theyre worth checking out. The houses lining the canals are interesting to, with varies designs and styles.

See LA in a Day

There are few housing developments with as much history and appeal as this little canal area. This section of canals used to be known as the "New Amsterdam Canals" but were eventually officially named after their investors and architects - Howland, Sherman, and Clark. Like so much of Venice, the were stunning when they opened and suffered from decades of deterioration. In the 90's, the canals were renovated, bringing them up to the condition we see them in today. If you've never been, go grab an $18 smoothie (-_-) at Erewhon and walk along the sidewalks and bridges that criss-cross the area!

Transport yourself into what feels like another dimension based on straight lines and shallow water. Can walk here from Venice beach pretty easily and a nice way to spend the afternoon strolling along and wondering what your life would be like if you could afford to live in some of these very nice houses. Probably not too different to be honest, since material possessions can only go so far. I just hope they're happy with their beautiful backyards.

This is a nice place to walk through. During this season, October, it isn't as nice because the water gets low and it smells somewhat. You also see the clams rotting. Worth a visit especially in February.

What a wonderful discovery. There are paths that you walk and all sorts of nooks and crannies and little side streets. The houses are part of the scenery and are really beautiful. The people who live here seem to be amused by the tourists but are kind anyway. There are so many bridges and it looks like you can take a row boat out as well. Take lots of water with you. Try to keep track of where you are it seems easy to get ost there. You can either exit Venice beach side or the street.

gorgeous area, was nice to see everyone abiding the covid/ mask regulations, I just wish the area passed the canals where all the shops, fancy restaurants, and food places were located were less crowded. I also hate the air in LA/Venice but it's just how it is unfortunately, so its very rare I can even go there these days, I could handle it a little better before all of my auto immune issues became so severe, but these days I can barely handle it in small doses. Thankfully the mask helped prevent me from getting as sick from the pollution as I usually do. I am still going to give 5 stars though because the state of the awesome historical Canal wasn't affected by the previously mentioned things I stated above, it was still gorgeous and gives off an amazing vibe. There's lots of really cool sea birds, I even saw one that looked very unusual compared to all of the ducks, cranes, and egrets. this guy had a very unusual shape and feet compared to the rest, he stayed alone sitting on this one boat for over an hour straight (he was there when I walked through the canal, and was there later when I walked by it to go back to the car!) several others took pictures of him aside from myself.

I didnt know what to expect when my partner said we were visiting the venice canals, named after the canals in Italy. But they didnt disappoint. The houses along here are each so unique and interesting to look at. The water level was pretty low as to be expected but we still had great views and reflections walking down the little paths between the water and houses. It's definitely a site to see if your visiting L.A. and are in the venice area.

Except the presence of canals it doesnt look like Venice in Italy. Nevertheless the canals and surrounding houses are beautiful and a place of tranquility, especially when there are no other tourist (groups) around. If you walk from Venice beach through 25th Ave you will cross a mini version of the San Francisco Lombard street. It's a crooked street with a tiny park. Since it was near Halloween when I was there, the owners decorated the area pretty nice. Please be respectful and keep the noise down as this is a neighbourhood and you're walking through the residents backyard. I think it's a matter of time before a resident start a nice little backyard lunchroom.

Venice is a very beautiful place , but let 's agree that the water that passes through the canals is very dirty , there are many crabs , fish and other small animals dead and forgotten there for a long time , it has a strong smell of sewage , the small boats that decorate the banks of the canal are all very dirty and damaged! Let's fight for the improvement of the place! I'm always here, but it's losing its charm because of these problems!
