Reviews of South Coast Botanic Garden
Nayeli Ortiz
I love this place. Each visit I find a new path or area I didn’t explore yet; the garden is huge. It was a beautiful experience when I came to the butterfly pavilion. It’s always a good time when I come on dog walk days. I always have a good time whether I come for an event, just walk around and explore, or find a nice nook to draw or read.
The membership is absolutely worth it if you and your family plan on coming more than once.

We used to visit the botanic garden frequently when the kids were toddlers. It’s a great place for them to run free. Less structured than a public park and far less crowded.
Recently, my wife and I came back to attend the Soar- Butterfly Exhibit. It was magical! A small enclosed space with only a few people allowed in for 1/2 hour time slots. It’s an opportunity to see multiple examples close up. I wore a yellow shirt which seemed to attract them as multiple butterflies landed on me. I highly recommend this exhibit. It’s easy to schedule a time slot. Arrive on time though because it’s required that you exit at the end of the 1/2 hour time slot.

Absolutely beautiful. Dress warm! You can either walk the entire thing in 30-40 minutes or sit and soak in the atmosphere. Incredibly calming and comforting. If driving from far away, it's best to be prepared to sort on the benches and watch the light shows to get the most from the experience.

We came here for the GLOW event and it was AMAZING!!! This was our last night in LA and I'm so glad we got to experience this! (FYI today is the last day to go.) So much beauty in one place. I loved the different scenes and vibrant colors. This is a must-see event for anyone visiting next year!
Jordan Stokes
I love this place. I am a member. Come here a lot; SOAR, GLOW, general walkabout. Just recently, I visited SOAR for the second time with family. What a great experience (see photos). The gardens are truly a gorgeous way to spend your morning/afternoon.

It’s always a pleasure to visit the South Coast Botanical Garden. Every time we visit is a bit different because different plants and flowers are blossoming. Great place to walk relax and unwind. Fresh air. We love this place ❤️🪴🌱 …

GLOW - 2021
Such a great experience, I loved how the lights and music were synchronized. So many beautiful lights, places to sit, and photo opportunities.
It is a walking experience, slight incline and stairs to deal with. There was a golf cart available for those who needed assistance.
Light snacks, beer and wine available. Parking is free. The entire walk took about an hour and a half. Definitely recommend GLOW. We loved it.

Going back to my roots! As a former resident of the area, the gardens were a good respite from the urban world. Thus my day in, day out thru LA often ended up here!
I see groups of all types and ages tour about the gardens. It’s a great place for a field trip with the teacher, or a parent guided bonding adventure!
Returning here whenever possible is to refresh the appreciation of all that grows. The nature first and foremost enwraps me and the staff and volunteers inspire me!
I can be entertained by showpieces, walk thru an alpine forrest, or get lost in a daydream, only to wake up and smell the roses!
There’s often extra exhibits to see, possibly for an additional fee. Banners and signage directs visitors to those attractions. There was an interesting topiary display I saw along some of the trails. Made with live plants, they remind me of the artistry work of Rose Bowl Parade float workers, as well as the Disneyland landscapers. The topiary were scheduled thru the end of July 2022.
I used to like to take a break by the lake. There’s labeled pathways leading up to and around the location, with benches to sit on. Looking back, that’s been a nice reflection on me!
It may be impossible to reflect upon with my most recent visit, as the downside in the dry months is that there’s no lake, pond, creek or even a trickle of nature!
While I’m understanding the consequences of a drought, the intended expectation for this body of water is disappointing! It’s like leading a horse to water, but can’t make ‘em drink in!
The garden has a dryness I’ve not seen before, tho apart from the creek and lakebeds, the adaptation and maintenance is commendable!
Overall, I’m good with my visit and look foreword to the next chance to go here. When all is said and done, I’d say taking the tour is time well spent!

Entrance is $15 per adult, $11 per senior or student. The butterfly exhibit is $7 per person on top of the entrance fee. There are clean restrooms near the entrance. Spacious garden with lots to see. I especially loved the lavender field, the rose garden, and the many benches.

I renewed my membership again …so nice to go and relax their enjoy it’s natural beauty that just surrounds you as you walk through their many exhibits…I’m closer than before so I will be enjoying coming here more often for my alone moments to center myself and continue connecting with nature…this past Monday gave myself the Best Birthday present for my #51 bday!! Came to the Soar exhibit and was delighted with all the beautiful butterflies that surround that place while you’re there…Diego was my guide he was extremely professional helpful and courteous…answered all my questions and then taught me a thing or two about these beautiful butterflies!! So if you’re in the area come check out Soar only available until the end of August and it is an additional $5.00 cost but believe me so worth enjoying that Nirvana moment too it’s fullest…It was truly a beautiful experience don’t miss out!!! 🌻💯Thank You Diego again for all your help and making that moment for me extra special🌻💯🙌❤️all the staff there was hands down excellent 💯

This is a wonderful place to go for a walk, doesn’t matter if you are young or old. I always find something new. There is a turtle who hangs out by the bridge in the kids section and bunnies all around as well. Love even just looking at all the trees on the drive in. They have lots of fun themed events throughout the year. I recommend buying a membership if you live close and plan on going more than a time or two. There is also free parking and bathrooms near the entrance.
Andreola Werner-Velleryd
Beautiful walk through 87 acres of botanical gardens with 8 sculptures from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art hidden among the vegetation. And for the kids there are gnomes hidden as well.
Maria
Lovely afternoon in the gardens, roses and the butterfly gardens are in full bloom, make sure to take your Claritin if you have spring allergies. Well worth the trip. The butterfly sanctuary ( SOAR ) was the highlight of this day and made my birthday special 💗🙏🌱🌸 …
William Stieritz
A nice evening at Glow. Really enjoyed the bayou area as well at the illuminated desert (cactus) area! Somewhat steep hills made it hard for wheelchair but we managed to get through the entire loop. I recommend caution if you are disabled.
Nas Sol
Beautiful gardens and interesting history being a landfill once upon a time. The cactus and rose garden should not be missed. Definitely worth a visit.
Joule Han
Staff are really kind and helpful! The park is incredibly beautiful and fun to explore. Is nice for hikes and picnics!
vanina ivy
Beautiful gardens and a lovely Monarch butterfly exhibit! Find the Garden for the Senses where you can touch and smell the plants….it’s amazing!
Note that they require advanced reservations for non-members for their exhibits. They have a big parking lot and it’s free to park!
Launi Harrell
An elite garden experience dotted with marvelous long blooming perennials. The climate allows for almost year round blooms.
Andrew Marshall
Gorgeous grounds, lots of areas were closed off for events but highly recommend this place to get away from it all. Great butterfly exhibit too!
Maya
Very gorgeous place. Walked almost half of the place, will walk the other half another time! Loved it here.

Last day for Chinese New Year.
Fun and chilling.
Got on the shuttle for a brief tour of the garden and learn about the history of the garden.

Interesting special topiary exhibit, plus beautiful flowersblooming. Plus, they have a free entry on the third Tuesday of the month.
Sergio Garcia
This place is beautiful especially if you like to walk and love plants and when they have SOAR which it's a butterfly event it is so awesome right now there are tropical butterfly must see now they have the Spider pavilion
Rosalind Helfand
Gorgeous, diverse gardens with so much space to hike, explore, and relax for hours! And there was lots of wildlife! Love their exhibits and perfect location, too!
Lisa Hentz
Can't say enough about how much FUN the Discoasis experience was! Elaborate, flower-laden displays with various song themes, all beautifully lit and decorated, with a person at each station dressed in character and ready to greet with a big smile! Everyone was incredibly friendly and happy to pose for pics and ready to interact with each guest. Both a skating rink AND a fabulous dance floor with DJ were available to groove the night away! Multiple food trucks and beverage stands and even a handful of retro video games! It is a bit of a walk to/from the actual venue within the garden grounds, so wear comfortable shoes. We were fortunate enough to find two "garden angels" driving their cart the opposite way who offered to drive us back to our car because my husband was having a tough time on his feet. This is NOT a service that's provided by the Gardens, so these gals went above and beyond the call of duty (we don't want to post names in case they violated any protocols, but they were truly a blessing and you know who you are - THANK YOU!!)
Joe Nunez
It was delightful! Many trees and flowers! Great place for a picnic!
Jenn Wright Quazza
Wow!! My first night at the 'Disco Oasis', and had a blast! Worth the drive up from the O.C. area for this limited summer event happening. Parking & ticket information are available on their website.
Cindy Hamilton
We really enjoyed the gardens. Many beautiful plants and flowers from all over the world. Lots of paths to walk and hike. Lots of open areas to enjoy. Benches, large rocks, downed tress to sit and rest. We only stayed a couple of hours so didn't see it all but definitely looking forward to the next time. This was dog walking Sunday which happens once a month. The park provided watering stations including bowls from the dogs. It was a good experience!
Kryssy Pooh
Absolutely beautiful! We chose South Coast Botanic Garden for our maternity photo shoot and they were perfect! I loved the fact that they had so many natural spaces to choose from and it wasn't crowded at all. Highly recommend if you are a nature lover or are looking for a beautiful natural space for any photo needs.
Shelley Crawford
Gem of the South Bay! Acres and acres of nature and trails to explore. Lots of places to rest too! ...with benches and wide open green grass. Restrooms and snacks are also available. Kids love the South Coast Botanic Garden! I can't say enough about this tranquil escape from the busy world! 💞⚘🌻🌺🌹🦋🐇🐿🐦🐞 ...and plenty of parking! 😉 …
Erayna T
Gorgeous garden, very big , will likely need a couple visits to see it all. Highly recommend the SOAR butterfly exhibit. All lovely tropical butterflies. Best butterfly exhibit I've seen to date.
Fernando Rosendo
Beautiful place and bigger than I expected. Came here for the SOAR butterfly exhibit and had a great time. Learned about and saw a variety of butterflies. Great place to come to take a walk and enjoy the plants and wildlife. Would be a great place for sketching and taking pictures with plenty of areas for relaxing and having picnics. Check out the souvenir shop on the way out and help support this awesome place.
Jamie Heimforth
Beautiful gardens and trails. Can take a bus tour, walk or stop and picnic.
Betu P
Such a beautiful and well maintained garden. It's a must see. I absolutely loved this place. Nice, quiet, clean, beautiful.

This is the second year of a Holiday tradition at SCBG: GLOW. My child and her best friends love to come to GLOW to dance their hearts out and admire the light installations.
I have posted pictures and a video from the first night of GLOW; November 20th. I was stationed as a volunteer at the Banyan Grove. It was lots of fun. Many visitors were quite creative in the way they dressed up.
Other highlights in the garden include the following:
Watch hummingbirds feed on the Mexican Salvia in the mornings
Play at the fountain in the Rose Garden
Engage in a talk with the friendly staff
Enjoy a picnic in the Desert Garden
Let loose on the meadows
Stop by the vegetable garden and the vertical garden
Look up for beautiful spider webs when walking the trails
Membership pays of after 3-4 visits already.
The trails are well taken care of. We recommend the trail from the sensory garden down to the “dry” river bed.
Thank you and cudos to the staff that work so tirelessly during the Covid19 pandemic.
Update on GLOW exhibit in winter 2020/21:
GLOW stands for

Tickets to this 1,5 half months nightly event were sold out most of the evenings.
The attached videos give you a glimpse of some of the artful light installations and the associated music pieces. Excuse the less than ideal audio please. It was more impressive in reality.
My newest review is about the following class: How to grow your cocktail inspired garden?
The class is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. To be continued.

Great place to spend an early weekend morning. The seasonal butterfly exhibits are terrific. The grounds are well lay out and full of interesting plans. If visiting late afteryne aware that the garden rents out for weddings etc and some areas might not be accessible. Plenty of parking.
Hunter Swanson
These gardens are a beautiful place to come enjoy nature, walk about beautiful plants, and see a variety of interesting flora. The gardens have plenty of lawn space through out the park for having a picnic and relaxing. I recommend bringing some food and a blanket to enjoy the space!
Shanelle S
Pretty botanic gardens with easy paved paths and picnic areas. It’s currently open during covid and you must make reservations ahead of time. Tickets are $15 and there is a student discount (as of March 2021). Parking is free and available on their lot. You can bring your own picnic items and food into the garden. There’s a food concession stand open but it’s only for drinks and chips (no hot food was being served when we went). You can also have them set up a picnic for you - we saw some reserved picnic areas that were a bohemian garden fairy’s dream.
The paths are all clearly laid out and you can do a lot of meandering. There are a lot of families with small children as well as couples. Bathrooms are available after you go in through the entrance, but they have closed off some stalls due to covid in order to promote social distancing. Small scale events are still being held, and we saw an intimate wedding photo shoot when we were leaving. All the garden areas are gorgeous and there are a ton of benches to sit and take it all in. It’s impressive that this area is also sitting atop a former landfill site!

It was our first time to the garden and it was awesome! :-) there is a lot of ground to cover and many many different Garden displays! If you get a chance to visit this place, you really should! :-) we will be back in the future! :-)
Evelyn Soto
Beautiful gardens - they have 9 gnomes hidden in the gardens - could not find them all - too hot!
Douglas Chan-Wing
Really great place for a walk, picnic, and plan events! Be sure to have comfortable shoes to enjoy all the trails provided at the garden. There is also a small gift shop to pick up a few plants and souvenirs.
Ethan Gourlay
Beautiful park, great for big groups or solo walks.
Jeanette Chavez
I just got a family membership this year because this place is so beautiful. There is so much to see and do. Even just for a walk with family and kids to explore for a few hours, so worth it. It even has doggy walk days to take your pooch friends.
Miguel June
Great experience. Came for the butterfly exhibit. Grab a map, help guide you.
Free parking, clean restrooms, with plenty space to all around and remain socially distant (during covid time)
Really enjoyed my experience

Loved the grounds so much we became members! A really great deal for a very amazing place.
Erick Breneman
Visited the Astra Lumina event. Go if you can. Whoever thought up this installation is inspiring. There is a range for me, with 2 stations really standing out. Pictures are from one of them. Two stations were so-so, and the others were very good. To each their own, of course, so I'm not going to say, or show, more.
It's definitely worth checking out!

Botanical gardens are gorgeous no matter which one you go to (and there are hundreds in the U.S.). This one is no different.
Jim Stavropoulos
Small but still an enjoyable stroll in wooded areas and some nice trees and flowers to see. Descondso gardens and the huntington library are much bigger and there is more to see but this is still a pleasant local botanical garden. I look forward to seeing it in different seasons.
Amir Khamesi
This was my first time here. If I wanna compare with other botanical garden it was a regular one but the same as others was very beautiful and it’s worth to go. You need at least 3 to 4 hours if you want to go all around. Pack some snacks and water and enjoy your visit. If you like photography take your camera too. Parking is free but you need pay for admission. And these days because of COVID-19 you need to take an appointment online in their website. The staff were friendly and very good for kids specially because of the rabbits that you can see there.
N Mistry
Visited as a bday present for my MIL. Bought the membership as it was the same as buying all7 of us tickets. The gardens gave her a fresh bouquet of flowers! It was so sweet. The rose garden is great, I love the living wall, and the senses garden was really cool for my boys to get involved. Its flat terrain at the beginning then is steep so we stayed towards the lower meadow mostly. We saw peacocks as well! Great visit.
Scott Nelson
Nice resource to have on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. So great in terms of such a large area preserved in nature here. A great resource for kids and parents alike. It seems to need more support, possible volunteer assistance and donations. They might be slightly shorthanded as it’s not manicured not as lush as I recall in years past. Still a great place to visit.
I-Lin L
Free the 3rd Tuesday of each month! Make sure you get tickets online and make reservations in advance. I didn’t know that and was lucky they took us as a walk-in on the spot. Free parking on site. Masks are required now. Lots of interesting plants and flowers and trees to look at. Too bad the lake is all dried up now. Plenty of places to stop and rest and picnic.
Zoul
First time coming here! All I can say it's such a great spot for a nice walk surrounded by nature. It has a beautiful garden, flowers, trees, and a few animals. Definitely bring a couple of water bottles if you plan on hiking a good while, sunscreen for those sunny days, I'd recommend proper shoes depending where you hike, there are areas you may slip. Hope to go back soon! Enjoy the nature! ❤
Shawn Shepherd
Great location to view and enjoy nature. Well worth the cost of a membership.
UPDATE: after being a member for two years, I am happy to report that I continue to see new plants for the first time and find the Botanic Garden just as much a pleasure as my very first visit.
Be sure to visit in early Spring to see the cherry blossoms and again in late spring to visit the rose garden.
Veronica Sevilla
Beautiful place to go on a pleasant walk. (Take walking shoes, you don't mind getting dusty!) So many types of plants/colors and textures! Not ideal for elderly, whom need a stright walkway, even levels of ground... Great for kids to run around in. 😍💐🌸🌷🌹🌻🌺🍁🍃🌾🍂🌿🌴🌱🌵🌳🌲🌼 …
I Am Motivated Morgan
Learned a lot of cactus names, was sad that so many sections are closed. Would have loved to learn more about all the species of roses they have.
Really loved the sensory garden!
Lori vb
It was beautiful, and there's a lot blooming right now. We went to the butterfly area. Really fun!
Erica Chuvichien
It's beautiful here. This was my first time here and I'd love to go back.
They do yoga on the lawn.
The Rose's smell amazing when you walk through the rose garden.
This is a great place to get in your steps in a beautiful setting or simply relax with a picnic for the afternoon.
Julia Hatch
Wonderful place to walk around! They have lots to see and it’s really a great place for kids. Membership is totally worth it if you’re local :)
Artsy Nano
They really cleaned up since the last time I went. The rose garden has been finished and the Living Wall is as well. Staff was very friendly and chatted with us about the weather, plants and garden memberships. The Japanese section was my favourite--I just wish there was more of it. I'd only say that the whole garden is in need of more water fountains.
alwaysdte
I love this place! It’s a hidden gem! I can spread an entire day here. The cactus garden is my favorite! It’s very peaceful and serene. They have student/senior discount I believe. Regular price is $18/adult.
Adam M
Very nice exhibit and worth seeing if you're in the Xmas spirit.
The park staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Most people working in the trials are volunteers.
This is the first year of the exhibit there's one more evening show left.
Wei-Yann Chen
We visited this place on the third Tuesday of last month, where they have free admission for all. This place is much bigger than i thought! Lots to see and explore, especially for kids 😊 there are cacti with names like orange tuna and succulent grape and huge pine trees. Some parts have tropical plants which made me feel like I was back home in South East Asia. There was also a dry lake bed and a few dirt trails, we didn't get to explore the whole area as it was huge! Ample parking, friendly staff, clean bathrooms and wheelchair access.
Davina Dawson
I love coming to the gardens, especially with everything going on in the world right now bits become quiet enough that you can hear the wings of a crow over head, and the thumbing of a bunny rabbit trying to get a blade of grass.
The workers have always been kind and helpful, and they’re doing a great job of creating access to nature right now when people really need it.
I love the family events, movie nights, and community outreach events the garden hosts. I’ve been an annual member for years and plan to continue.

I hadn't been in a year, and boy a lot has changed! The Rose garden is exquisite! They have interactive seasonal activities for the kids and educational stops for kids to learn about nature. The membership was the best deal and after going in, I'm so looking forward to taking the kids to monthly activities !!!
Caitlyn Culley
Perfect place to just relax and go with a group of kids to just let them run and go nuts. Right now they've got the bugs exhibit, so the little kids can run around to all the sections and learn about the bugs. And the children's garden is just their size, so parents get to sit back and allow the kids to explore and put their hands on EVERYTHING.
Oghenemairo Abugo
Lovely place with diverse plants. Beautiful and smells wonderful. Best to have a bottle of water and a good pair of sneakers on your feet. There are snacks, plants and other things to buy.
Deirdre Delgado
It was our first time visiting the gardens and we fell in love!!! So many beautiful plants and flowers and trees to look at! It was a clear and sunny day which made it even more memorable!! We must have walked at least 2 miles along the winding pathways..... Soaking in all the varieties of flowers!! I was really enjoying the cherry blossoms....... We look forward to coming back soon🌸🌷🌼🌱🌹🏵️🌻🍃🌵🌴🌺🥀💐💮
Robbie Goins II
This place is huge and there's plenty to see. The nicer flowers are closer to the entrance, more in the back is where it turns into dirt and dry grass. The map works very well as long as read the signs they post up. No tour guide but made it through with the help of Google. It's very relaxing and peaceful if you enjoy nature.
Mike Ambrosi
A fantastic assortment of both native and non-native trees, shrubs, scrubs and bushes. Every section of the garden is well-manicured, easily traversable and is beautiful in it's own right.
You'd never know by looking at the photos, but the whole thing is an ecological experiment. Believe it or not, it's all a landfill.
Though despite the place's very undignified past, you'd never know that you're traversing heaps of your grandparents' garbage. There's no sign of it. No smell or anything.
Do not eat anything that grows here. Don't take any leaves, rocks or feathers. Even culinary herbs are off limits. That's because of course, it's not clean soil. But don't let that discourage you from visiting. If you have any doubts, just know that people actually get married here.
Gina Bellous
Such a beautiful place to stroll around in. I happened to go during a great time. They had an art show and cactus sale. California is in a super bloom from all the rain, so lots of flowers showing off their colors. The fragrance from the blossoms is intoxicating. If you have stress, come here and let it drift away on the gentle breezes.
aubrey _ lychee
ok so this place is WAY bigger than you'd think. At first there's a place that looks like, y'know, a garden. Later we were just looking at some cacti and then saw this foresty path so we went to look. To sum it up we spent hours switching from path to path it was awesome
other info
-cool plants
-ominus benches everywhere(they are safe there's only like rabbits here)
-no drinking fountains on hiking trail
-dont be afraid to go off trail just remember where you came from

This garden it's a hidden gem, first time here, and I love it, this place it's beautiful, a lot to explore and discover, flowers, squirrels, bees, mantis, definitely I will be coming back here I bought my membership so it will be worthy
Plumeria Dee
Mother's day at a garden, yes please! Everything was lovely. I enjoyed the many California poppies that were in every part of the garden. One disappointment, however: the Rose garden was in full bloom, but most are devoid of scent. A rose without scent may as well be fake. Just a few Double Delights, Mr. Lincolns, or any David Austin's would do the trick.
Fred Irvin
Stunning beauty, diverse plants, educational exhibits spectacular gardens. To think this was once a land fill! Love gardens? Don't miss this place if you visit LA, easily reachable from LAX.
Scott Dee
I go here probably 30 - 50 times a year, and I'm probably karmically required to mention that my wife introduced me to it.
Since that introduction, we've been cardholders continually for years now.
I'll probably be going again for at least a few hours next weekend. And the next. And the next...
(Please have more early opens or late closings - sometimes it's the only chance 9-5 workers get a chance to visit during a busy week!)
Fatima Lemus
Went with my 7 year old nephew and family for a leisurely day of adventure. We loved hunting for troll and fairy houses as well as learning so much about plants. My favorite was taking in a deep breath in different areas with enchanting scents that were very captivating!
Jarrod (Bear)
Such an amazing place to go. For only $9 you get to walk around and escape the world, it's huge, a couple inclines to walk up so you get your heart pumping and just the beauty of it takes your breath away.
M Z
We came here on the monthly dog walking day and it is a dog paradise! I love that the plants here are very naturally grown gives you a state park sorta feeling. Our dog loves it here too!
Stan Sato
A well-kept 70 acre botanic jewel in the middle of LA's South Bay with diverse flora and landscapes. Once there it's hard to believe you're still in LA. Awesome volunteers and staff, a must see.
Keiry S
Gorgeous views, great place to exercise, see wild life and a lot of beautiful vegetation
Jim Bagley
This is a wonderful botanical garden experience within easy driving distance from most of the greater Los Angeles area. There are extensive trails to stroll along discovering fantastic plant collections. It setup for adult enjoyment and they have interactive kid programs too. Plan to spend a minimum of two hours, but a half a day would disappear if you tired to see everything. Come visit this beautiful setting and enjoy exploring the grounds with family and friends.
D C
This place is beautiful it's smaller than the Arboretum but has a variety of flowers and plants and species. When I went it was very active with creatures such as huge squirrels huge bumblebees and lizards everywhere. The garden had lots of hills and it is a good place for exercising. I was sweating in my garden dress and there are bathrooms for you to use there just make sure you have a water bottle. Everything was beautiful and I loved the experience.
YsY SoCalProHealth
Get the membership and enjoy the reciprocal garden pass. This place is consistently beautiful, peaceful, very friendly staff. Lots of photo opps!
Frances Castro
I took my two toddler boys, we loved it! You get a good exercise in while enjoying the beautiful sites to be seen. Lots of humming birds, lizards, and bees for kids to explore! So happy definitely going back!
Sarah Crosby
If you live gardens come here it's an incredible place to relax enjoy and be merry. Always neat and clean, you can really tell the plants are happy!
Lesly Tafoya
Beautiful!! Drove three hours to see this place and it was worth it
Michelle
WOW! Went for first time today and was completely blown away. The day before, I had visited the Descanso garden in La Canada, and this was, by far, much better. I loved it so much, I bought a membership. So much to see and paths to explore, and beautiful fragrant flowers. I can’t wait to go back and relax some more
Ghoul Gwynefern
It was a lot of fun if you enjoy walking around and taking candid pics of your family and pretty flowers. There is a lot of walking around. A lot bigger than expected, but not so huge it takes days to walk.
Julia Gruschyk
It’s amazing place to rest and see beautiful garden 🌺 …

Discoasis is the best idea of the year, located inside the Botanic Garden thru the summer, an outside roller skates rink that play disco music, welcome back...

Its full of things for the kids to do. There's Garden For The Senses where the kids can smell and touch the plants. My boy's favorite is the Banyan Grove (#4), its a bunch of giant trees which branches out in all directions. Its like a huge jungle gym. There's also the Discovery Garden, its theme is nursery rhyme. SCBG is great for kids because they can use their imagination while here.
This place is Humungous! I took my boys for a quick tour...so i thought. it took us 3 hours. Note to self "Next time buy trolly tickets" just in case we need to get back to the front and not want to drag our tired bodies back by foot.
Natalie H
A gorgeous variety of everything! Surprises around every corner, expect to be there a few hours at least. And bring your picnic!
Shiemier Munroe
I absolutely enjoyed this beautiful therapeutic environment 🥰 full of nature's pure wonders!! Great nature walks and hikes 🙌🏽 …
Duncan Blount
A resource for the whole South Bay. Beautiful gardens and activities. We’re so thankful for this gem.
Shelley
Huntington gardens too $$$?
Huntington gardens too crowded?
Huntington gardens too far?
Huntington gardens too hot?
Well then, you came to the right place. This place is the slightly less perfectly curated botanical gardens, sans the art gallery. However, it is still gorgeous, and it is much quieter and less pretentious.
Have your wedding here! So many beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring :D
Moe Mora
Very beautiful and amazing, could improve the signage, also wonder why the cafe was not open. We drove an hour to get there and it was worthwile

Check out Astra Lumina experience

If you live close enough, I heartily recommend that you get the yearly membership just to have a place to walk around and relax.
Sprawling grounds and so much in bloom, even in the winter. Kid friendly with a little map and scavenger hunt when we visited.
Worth seeing the koi pond and the sense garden.
Diana Arebalo
Beautiful butterfly 🦋 exhibit. Lots of different plants, flowers and trees to see. Need to return to see more. …
Melanie D
Its gorgeous there, they had so many different plants, and you can tell they really care for them.
Jen M
We used to have a membership here. We lived going with our daughter. After our membership was up we didn't renew just bc we didn't remember to. We had another visit about a month ago and renewed our membership! It's such a great place for a walk or to relax outside. We really enjoyed the rose garden, it was still in the works the last time we had been there.
Hector Morales
Amazing time at the garden. Hope they do more of these dog days. No complaints whatsoever. So refreshing & fun.
Laurel Woodley
Great place to walk and enjoy the flowers while taking pics. A mix of formal and wild gardens with lots of hidden trails to explore.
Regina Lee
Nothing short of amazing. So beautiful and fragrant. The touch and smell garden were my favorites.
Randall Porizek
Beautiful space with a huge variety of plants and wildlife. Great place for a picnic. Many different paths to explore. Highly recommend checking it out. Especially for nature and flora lovers.
Mizz Chizz
Great garden. Lovely staff. Well kept and though I shouldn’t write this review - it is typically pretty quiet. Especially during the week or evening time on the weekends.
Jason Loomis
I love the South Coast Botanical Garden. It is a true gem of the area. It is always well-maintained and there is always something to see, even in the winter. The tulips and cherry blossoms were a delight on our most recent visit.
Nadia Villanueva
This botanical garden has some beautiful spots and trails but some other parts are very dry and unkept. We enjoyed our visit though.
Isaac Martinez
It was a great place to walk and to enjoy nature. Plans, Trees and wild life to its best.
Thomas Beckner
An amazing Discovery. This place is huge. You could walk for hours across the 87 acres. Plenty of great grassy spots for a picnic.
Jacky Lee
Enjoying the new current hours 8am to 8pm 7 days a week. So many different garden areas to visit and plants to see you never get bored.
Erin Fleming
Just had to write a review of GLOW. This ended up being quite a nice evening date night with my husband. Note to self, if you don't want to have the experience with other people's children, then make your reservation closer to 8pm, rather than earlier.
There are various themed areas, which they really went above and beyond with bringing in additional items to help with the theme, as well as video, moving lights and music. It does not go through the whole garden but does cover a nice area. My husband and I made 2 rounds of the place and ended up being just under 1.5 miles of walking as a slow leisurely place with great benches to stop and enjoy the music and lights. The moving lights were top quality and I couldn't figure out how they got some of them to shine so specifically on the rocks/plants.
At first I was going to say that Electric Desert was my favorite, but then I say Bayou, then beach, but no it comes down to...I enjoyed all the themed areas and was VERY impressed with what they put together. It was a wonderful evening out.
The did have a little snack stand in the Rose Garden with coco, a signature cocktail ($14) and pretzel/cinnamon roll type food.
All in all I would recommend this light display in the future to others. Very well done and if they add to it again next year...even better. I liked that it was not Christmas themed as well, so it lasted past the busy holiday time.

4.23.19 Spent my birthday here in the most beautiful way....membership pays for itself in two trips.
Totally beautiful all around.

Ingwar Lothbrok
Very pleasant experience here. Loved it.
Jason & Emily Sanchez
We attended the disco oasis here and omg it was so much fun we had an incredible time, they have a roller rink at the end of this magical trail, dance floor ,vintage arcade, food trucks, bar and a merch store.
J McGuinness
This is a beautiful garden with lots of trails.
Erin Sinnokrak
Something for everyone: trails for people who want to get out for a hike, educational gardens, a beautifully manicured rose garden, even a children's garden. They host frequent special events and classes, and my 8 year old loves their Adventure Kids series.
Be aware that it can be 4-8 degrees warmer in the middle of the park (due to elevation and shielding from the ocean breezes) so you may want to layer clothing.
Christine L
It's a great area to walk and explore with numerous benches throughout where you can stop and relax. Quite often you will find that there is a unique art installation to discover throughout the grounds. I love it but I'm a local. It's not as lush as many botanic gardens. They take water restrictions very seriously.
Julie Lynch
We went to the butterfly exhibit. AWESOME!!! Go see it!
Zane Wilson
Absolutely beautiful place. Worth a grip for sure. If you are old and febile there is a shuttle for you and the rest of us can wander all over. They tried to charge me extra becuase I brought in a nice camera. I'm not a professional I just like to take nice pictures. I caught these two poseing for some photos too.
Wellington Joe
What a wonderful way to spend an hour or two!! Such a peaceful place!! Beautiful blooms!! Well-maintained!! Inexpensive too!!
J L
Wonderful garden and nature area. The Rose garden recently redesigned. Extensive walking trails. Seasonal displays.
Mark Punshon
My boys had a ball. Pretty big for a garden, blossoms were coming out. We had a picnic lunch etc plus lots of rolly pollies to entertain the kids on the ground!!! Cafe stand is usually open as you enter to grab a bite etc
Robert Jackson
😍 maintained gardens easy walking Great way to get in some steps. …
Gilbert Tseng
Update: the garden has done a great job modernizing its programs and features, with frequent dog walking days that have plenty of water, a popup bar on the weekends to have a cocktail in the garden and fun temporary events like the Soar butterfly exhibitions and Glow in the winter. Come out and support this wonderful garden.
Original: Great garden with lots of trails to walk. Almost everyone is considerate and keeps space between people. Lots of grassy areas to picnic. Admission is relatively inexpensive but the memberships are worth the price.
Rafael Traje
Love the gardens and enough space for the kids to explore!
Frank Kyle
Great place to take the family. Recommend to visit. In early 2021, everyone must wear masks.
James Mobley
This botanical garden is huge. It is well maintained and and definitely coming back to explore more.
Laurie Reese
Beautiful place to go and see a vast sampling of trees and flower varieties. We'll kept and peaceful.
Zachary Davis
Amazing flowers, trees, and other plants! There's no shortage of beautiful views, picnic areas, and photo opportunities. The staff are very friendly and they host great events such as a bring your dog day! Would recommend for a light family friendly adventure!
Shierley Nocum
My daughter loves a walk at this place. She thinks that fairies 🧚♀️ live in here. There’s something magical about this place. …
Jill Otis
This place is awesome!! We have always loved coming here, it's clean, pretty big and the workers are friendly. They currently have two free, cool, kids activities. The first is a hide and seek sculpture hunt, the second is a "sasquatch hunt" that is kind of like a scavenger hunt.
Karen Simerlink
Beautiful gardens. Enjoyed walking the paths through all the different areas and seeing different types of gardens.
Holly A
Always a great place to take a nature break and enjoy the garden's seasons. Worth joining.
Violetta Baya
If you're in the Rolling Hills area and you wish to go for a walk, plus fresh air and maybe 🐦 bird watching, then do not hesitate to visit the South Coast Botanical Gardens.it's quiet and big place, and if you don't like walking too long then take a train, but better take a walk to see all the special hidden meadows. By the way, if you are living in the area than get a membership.
zamirajade
Love it.... tons of trails to walk under thru and underneath nature
Isabel Lopez
Really nice garden, main restroom is by the entrance so if you need to use the restroom use that instead of the portable bathroom scattered in the garden area . There are many dirt trails so best to use comfortable sneakers. Avoid sandals and nice shoes you do want to ruin. The lake area is dry so that area is more dirt than anything else make sure you get a map to navigate through the garden. Lots of butterflies so small kids enjoy the walk.
Darren Galindo
A peaceful oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. The grounds here are very nice and well kept. There are so many trails and paths it feels like the park is twice as big as it really is.
There are lots of little nooks and hideaways to simply sit and relax.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for peace, quiet and nature.
Cesar's Photography
Amaizing place. Beautiful, clean and very corteus personal.

We chose a perfect day, everything was in bloom and the weather was ideal. Beautiful.

A must see if you like cactus gardens.
Henry Hernandez
It was nice; the snack bar was closed but maybe because we went around 3pm; Every 3rd Tuesday is free for non-members
Cesar Marenco
Beautiful place with a lot to explore. It's quiet and peaceful. A lot of small trails to explore and a wide variety of trees, flowers, and plants to learn about.
Mario Ordonez
Beutiful place to enjoy nature and do trails walking.
Clary Fletcher
Great place to bring the family. Affordable too. Also accessible for those in wheelchair. They're definitely making it nicer.
Tom Freeman
GLOW at South Coast Botanical was incredibly beautiful this season! Great parking, safe and a courteous staff make this an awesome destination for sure!
Cesar Morales
Its cool during the day...but a whole other level at night!!
Kirill Fokin
the garden is very large, and very beautiful. unfortunately we got there only under the closure and saw only a small part of it
:(
However we will definitely return!
PS be careful with cacti!
Greta Bravo
Very nice place, fairly well kept but could definitely use more watering. Great place to spend a day and still not finish seeing everything.
Jc
It's a nice place to hang out with family.
Hannah Klebe
The tropical Butterflies were super cool. You have to make a reservation and pay online (or with exact cash on arrival). The butterflies like it when it's hot, they are much more active. They fly right around you and land on you. Only here.for a limited time. Then we went to the "senses garden" where you are encouraged to touch and smell different plants. Then headed over to the rose garden, all in all it was a lovely morning with the family.
Eric Carso
We had a very nice walk and took in all the floral beauty.
Yvette Smith
Truly magical. Please make the time to walk through this glowing wonderland.
Inga Vassileva
Great place for your family. Stroll through the garden and enjoy life.
Ricky Jones
The Botanical Garden was a lovely relaxing place to walk. This is a family place, a date place and a quiet alone place to hike and see wonderful plants from around the world. Gods creation of plant life in one amazing place.
The staff is really quite amazing, they are knowledgeable and Kind. I highly recommend visiting Jaime a the butterfly dome.
There's a lovely place as I said and a great day for a family outing. I recommend this more than Disneyland in any other amusement park oh, well SeaWorld is tight with this.
David B.
Amazing space to enjoy the outdoors and nature. Lots of room to spread out and take it easy for a small picnic. Over 5 miles of trails to hike, art along the way and things to learn.
Patricia Anaya
A diversity of plants. The garden is beautiful! Bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery.
lee merschon
In a place like LA, it's nice to have such a diverse green space that takes you away from everything that if fast. Even though its a kept garden, I like how natural it feels. How there are paths between paths and under big trees. It's a very good place to take young kids for a picnic.
TheRenard10
It was undoubtedly awesome! Me and my friends just visited there today!
Ed Fort
For some unknown reason my wife and I had overlooked the Botanic Gardens for many years. We rectified this oversight a few days ago. We are very happy we did so. The Gardens are beautiful and very well maintained. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Our purpose for this 1st trip back to the Gardens was to see the Butterfly exhibition, which we found exceptionally interesting and informative.
Jasmin Guevarias
It was so beautiful, can't wait to come back!
Marina Accardo
A great park for the entire family. We especially love their events around the holidays.
Sky Edwards
Wonderful gardens and place to visit for all ages of people. The flowers were in bloom 2 weeks ago and it was the perfect time to be there, we took so many vibrant pictures with flowers and enjoyed the tranquility the venue has to offer. I was pleasantly surprised by how natural and peaceful the gardens were. We were able to find a spot to sit easily. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the price of 9 dollars per ticket for adults you can't really go wrong.
Mary Ibarra
Gift shop is closed (renovation?) but thankfully they did have a small outdoor kiosk and was able to purchase a beautiful basket made of pine needles and some air plants.
Taskeen Shaikh
I got the membership last year and I am so glad I did! This is a gem of a place, well maintained and beautiful.
I love taking my kids to the garden and having read aloud time with them under the shade of the beautiful trees. They love seeing the bunnies hop around, the colorful butterflies ,and hummingbirds.
My kids loved the ‘Garden Critter Scavenger Hunt’ that they had a few weeks back.
Arod Arod
Fun and relaxing, great for a date night;)
Marcus Homan
Had an amazing time enjoying nature, planted gardens and vast array of small creatures. Tons of butterflies and birds.
Janice Kemp
South coast botanic gardens was a wonderful place 💙enjoyed myself very much. I enjoyed watching everyone skate. …
Yirlanny G. Savage
I recently visited this garden; yet, I was a bit disappointed to know that the entrance fee does not cover the entrance to the butterflies exhibition that is currently going on, which is what I really wanted my fiance to experience. I have been fortunate enough, to visit many butterflies farms in Costa Rica.
Moreover, to add to the matter, I was told that there was not availability the day we visited to see the exhibition even though we were going to pay the fee, they say we needed a reservation.
On another note, there was hardly any vegetables growing, which has been one of my favorites through the years. It seems, that the rose garden was the most beautiful area, and the peaceful walks alongside the trees.
Cassandra Vitale
I love this garden! My husband and I have a membership and I have used the pass many times, so it easily paid for itself. It is a gorgeous place to talk walks, you can even do a really easy hike style walk if you circle the entire periphery of the property. 11 acres of gorgeous garden and a wide variety of plants. I kinda wish I knew about this before I got married, because I would have considered getting married there. I will recommend to some of my friends to get married there so I can experience it anyway!
johnathan smith
What a wonderful place to go and spend the afternoon! We come here weekly and walk around, it is very peaceful.
Samaporn Tinyanont
Beautiful gardens and certainly a great oasis of the south bay!
Silvia Ruiz
Love spending time at yhe garden! Today I went to make a succulent wreath! I enjoyed it very much!!
Lanikea King
Amazing and huge botanical garden. Beautiful flowers, lots of variety. Can get lost on the internal dirt trails so grab a map and spend some time planning if you're in a schedule. Great place to let a toddler run around (although the tram isn't running now because of covid).
Renee Page
Nice breath of fresh air from inland heat where I live. Butterfly exhibit better than the one at the LA Museum! The Senses Garden never disappoints! Though I looked for the gift shop, it seems they've permanently closed it. Sad. All the way around a nice day.
Jen McAllister
Beautiful walking paths through incredible gardens, and an amazing butterfly sanctuary. Definitely DO stop and smell the roses! A delightful place I'm happy to have discovered.
WebDev Dave
Large beautiful botanic garden. Please make sure you get a map of the place so that you will not get lost. There is a lot of hidden gems within the park that is just waiting to be discovered.
Ty
Lovely botanical gardens hidden near the Palos Verdes area. I like that they have a reservation system to keep crowds to a minimum. I went during a Summer morning during the week and it was already a bit active than I expected, but it is Summer vacation and the weather is nice. But this means weekends will likely be busier. Plan accordingly.
I only noticed it was a bit crowded or busy in the front sections though, but as you continue on past that it's more serene and emptier. You're alone for awhile, then the occasional person walks by with a smile and a wave or is sitting on a bench soaking it in or even typing on their laptop. The employees are super friendly almost like a friend you run into, which makes it inviting. I didn't expect that as employees nowadays tend to be on the cold side. The visitors were also nice and friendly, which was another surprise since this is L.A. where people can be a bit standoffish and unfriendly. The nature setting is calming so that likely helps. :) People also seem to be mindful of others that are enjoying a solo moment on a bench to just breathe in the quiet surroundings.
Although some warning, you will be putting in a bit of a workout. There are many hills and a great deal of walking, which is fine for me as I'm an active exercise guru, but I'm giving a warning if that's not your thing. You can just hang out in the front part which is just as beautiful. In fact, it's the front part that seems to house a great deal of kids as I believe there was a park and things for them to do. If many kids running around isn't your thing and you just want to chill in nature without noise, don't worry, because as you continue on past that front part, it's void of that.
If you're planning on doing a great deal of walking, I would recommend comfortable clothing and shoes, maybe even workout clothes and some water. I don't know if they allow you to bring your own small water in, but it does seem like it might be needed to hydrate if you are putting in a brisk walk. You could end up at the far end of the place and realize you're dehydrated. I didn't notice any places that sold water while I was there, or even on the other end of the place, but I might've missed it.
This place is also extremely large and vast. A great deal of winding pathways. If it's your first time, you might want to make sure you pick up a map since it's that big you could get temporarily lost. There were brief moments I thought, "Hmm, how do I find my way back."
It's also so big that you may likely not see it all in one visit. You'll lose steam before you decide to head back towards the exit. I enjoyed this place as I love being outdoors in nature. Those can be hard to come by in Los Angeles, but hidden gems like this exist for us nature people. A big 5 star thumbs up for this place.
Rajan King
1 star for the lady at the counter who shut the window on me .
Their rules changes according to who is incharge.
Last time i was told to scan my card on the left window which i did today and i got yelled at to stay in the right lane and she pulled the scanner in and shut the window.
I just said sorry and moved on. She could have been little bit kinder for my innocence.
Changed it to 4 star , it’s getting better.
ThankYou
Burtlederp Inc.
Really fantastic, beautiful place! So many neat little 'zen' spots, the plants are spectacular, really wonderful place! Much bigger than I anticipated; after wandering for a couple hours, I thought I'd reached the other side of the entire garden, only to find I hadn't even made it halfway across the park when I checked the map!
I did notice that some of the beds needed a lot of weeding, and that there is a severe lack or trash cans. So make sure to bring some kind of trash bag with yourself so you don't litter!
Again, wonderful place! I look forward to coming back eventually!
Silent Wolf
Absolutely gorgeous. Go if you have the chance!
Aracely Herrera
Very nice walk and beautiful plants. Definitely a place to go during the spring or summer.
Car Tabor
Expected the lights to be more colorful and brighter, with some reference to Christmas. Could be an absolutely lovely experience it there were some significant meaning or purpose or a connection to some celebratory event. Just a bit disappointing for the price.
Craig Derian
lovely Oasis, great to take the kids, interesting paths with little searches that change periodically. great place to see the monarchs in late fall
Tracy Zuniga-Yates
Beautiful location with awesome trails. Nice place to spend your afternoon
Mirian Romero
Excelente place for the Family is time for the sherry Blossom spring is around the corner!!!
Selena Tran
$15 for general ticket. The garden is so big on a hot day we was so tired and can’t explore everything. We spend half a day there and it was really nice. Pay $65 for membership and got 1 adult and 2 kid 1 baby in for free. Well worth the money.
Miguel Simpson
Went there for a wedding for my nephew and and his bride. The place is very well kept from what we saw. The staff was polite and handled the whole affair very well. And kept the standard visitors at a polite distance from the wedding party and held the venue open long after the gardens closed to the public. Congratulations to all for a job well done.
ada's aura
We loved our visit here. It's a cool place to go explore nature. It's like a very intermediate hike. There are trails that lead you to different areas in the garden with various arrays of plant life to see. You can go alone, or go with a group friends it's very enjoyable and relaxing. You can also bring your family because it's kid friendly. We loved seeing the beautiful trees and plants , while also getting in good exercise for the day. There was enough time to take a break and have a nice little picnic with our snacks and enjoy the calm environment. Definetly recommend this place for a nice outdoor activity that is fun and educational.
Hank Walker
Beautiful flowers and plants over many acres. Special topiary exhibit May to July 2022.
Andrew Vines
Beautiful place! Be sure to see the rose garden during the spring... Absolutely stunning!!! I became a member so I could enjoy throughout the year. Very nice place to take a morning stroll or hike along the many trails.
Dina Sisneros Gardner
Lovely garden! Lots to see! Beautiful walk!We enjoyed ourselves 😊💙 it's certainly great to get an membership! It's affordable and gives back to the garden can't wait to go back! Family picnic next week! …
Linda Campbell
Somewhat disappointed. Landscaping maintenance severely lacking. Very spread out, poor map and lack of signs. Enforcement of masks even though rules have lifted.
If you want to see butterfly exhibit, you need to reserve in advance. 😢
Taryn Burgess
Great Botanic Garden! Pleasant, tranquil, relaxing . Well kept. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of room to roam and enjoy nature. They even allow you to bring your dogs two afternoons/ evenings a month. Worth a visit.
Otto Fernandez
Love this place great for a walk and beautiful flowers
Rachel Oberg
Beautiful gardens. There is something blooming year round, it is quiet, peaceful, and serene. A membership isn't expensive, and my 19 month old son loves to explore here. One of our favorite places to go together!
TIAN XIA
Nice park with great view, fig trees and desert plants, with many activities!
Noe Guerrero
Nice walking trails. Had an allergy outbreak in the middle though...
Rolf Snobeck
Absolutely beautiful gardens, grounds and paths to walk. The lay out provides many views that are spectacular. The paths offer a variety of slopes, so anyone can move around easily. Very nice gift shop as well.
DM- unknown
Still a nice place to stroll, and enjoy the sights! Great for kids to enjoy something OTHER than an electronic device!
Warwick Knox
Can't say enough about this unusual and diverse botanical garden. Memorable is the children's area, with a cute bridge over a stocked bubbling brook; green, grassy picnic areas; awesome cactus and flower gardens and a network of trails that take you through thick, natural wooded areas - I actually got lost, but loved it!
It was wonderful experience, and being a senior citizen, the price of admission is only $6.00. One Tuesday a month is free - I forgot which one - check out their website, online.
Megann Lee
We just went to GLOW and it was magical! I hope you do it again next year. It was just what we needed after this crazy year. Now I want to go back during the day to see the beautiful gardens in the daylight. Thank you South Coast Botanic Gardens for putting this on.
Stephen Hunter
We love to go here for walks with our baby in a stroller. It has a lot of nice trails to walk through with beautiful plants and everything smells amazing. It makes you feel like you aren’t in the city for a little while.
Jungsoo Lee
Great place for short hiking and picnic
Sally Munson
There weren’t too many flowers—a little disappointed to pay to get inside and not see much. Got a good work out walking. Easy to get lost there. Never did see theJapanese gardens. Maybe because it was the time of year that I went. Maybe spring time is better time to go.
Alma Cruz
Very beautiful and peaceful. Good for walking and meditation.
Mark Stanley
This is a lovely place to spend 2 or 3 hours of enjoyable beauty. The Garden is large, but not huge. There are many types of local botany, with rose gardens and other flowers. There is a small lake where you can picnic. You don't need special clothes or shoes, but comfortable walking shoes will make the visit more enjoyable. If you are visiting the South Bay area of Los Angeles County, this would be a great place to drop by on your way to visit some of the other treasures of the area. This is a great place for a romantic walk for two, or for a family with children.
Alison Streit
Beautiful landscapes so worth the membership!!! Love it here
Daniel Wingard
We love this garden for a fun place to walk, explore new plants and get some light outdoorsy time. Membership is a great idea and will encourage you to come again and again. And there's also something new to find if you keep your eyes open
Adam Ramsey
This place is great to visit by yourself or your significant other or as a family! There are many fun plants and areas for children and young families. If your up for more you can easily spend a few hours walking around enjoying trees, birds and gardens. I have been 4+ times and will continue to visit every year!
Gina Hicks
We have a yearly membership here. It's the one garden that never closed in March and has continued to be open. You have to make a reservation but so worth it. There is art sculptures to search for and a beautiful rose garden. The banyan tree forest is always so refreshing and cooler than other areas. There are grass areas to relax on if you like. There was a tram before COVID19 but now you have to walk it. Make sure you bring WATER. There's a snack cart on the way out. Wear sunscreen and bring a hat!!
Phillip G.
It's a nice spot with some nice established meadows. It seems kinda...blah...right now. I'll visit again in the early summer and in the fall to see how things change.
UPDATE: It's been a couple years since I moved out of California. I loved this place. Visited it many times while I lived there. I strongly recommend to anyone that is in this area, to take the time to check it out. Walk the trails and visit each of the different areas. It's quite pleasant.
David Kinnison
The most beautiful place to go in all of LA County. A wide variety of plants in distinct areas. It was designed to have different plants to bloom each week year round. I go here with wife often to clear or minds and relax. We especially like to pinic here for Easter.
JR Curley
What a beautiful place to get away to! A sprawling mixture of open fields, dense foliage, ponds, flower gardens and more - it's easy to spend hours here simply enjoying the grounds. To top that off there are plenty of activities they host, for adults and children.
Incredible spread of flowers, fauna and beauty! Walk around and gaze at the flowers, go to the children's area and crawl through the secret tunnel in the hedge looking for the frog prince, and relax in the cover of a gazebo as you look over the skyline. It's wonderful.
Pro tip - the temperature can be high here, so bring a hat and water for your stroll!
Dan Weber
Awesome experience! The lights and music created a magical environment with different themes in different areas... I would definitely recommend going!
Jessica Lim
Love this respite from city life! My kids love having family picnics here.
Tim Millard
The place has grown a bit from the early 70's.
Brianna E.
As a South Bay local, this is one of my favorite places in the South Bay. Peaceful, quiet grounds with an amazing variety of well-maintained plants. This is a therapeutic and healing place to come to for anyone looking to reduce stress or overcome health issues. The staff does a superb job planning and executing the garden areas (love the edible varieties interspersed throughout), designing activities, and scheduling activities like yoga or watercolor classes. My mother and I have the annual pass and find it to be well worth it. Every visit I see something new and walk out feeling refreshed. Enjoy this gem!
Edward Ruiz
Great easy hike. If your child can walk a mile you would enjoy this place. Can be very sunny. Great trees , shrubs, plants, flowers, bugs and more. If your kids hate walking then you might not enjoy. Fairies and Trolls treasure hunt was great. Be prepared to walk.
Brandon Blain Schwebs
Beautiful grounds. So much variety in environments. The tram is a great way to hop around the gardens. And on quiet days the tram driver will go above and beyond to show you the interesting parts.
Leo Martinez
Definitely a great experience to have I will visit more times.
David Berumen
Perfect place to take the kids to run around, picnic, or just enjoy a long walk amongst the trees and flowers. I purchased the membership and renewed for the 3rd year now, and always take the family for some fresh air.
Bryan Swaim
Love this place a refuge to enjoy nature.
Jessica Euyoqui
So nice and relaxing. Kids had a lot of fun as well. Some advice, bring some water, you will quite a bit of walking. There is also a designated picnic area where u can bring your own lunch. Once a month they have some kind of kids program. Make sure to check online or call them for more info.

Love this garden . Such a nice place to spend the afternoon . I definitely recommend going during spring time: march - may. So many flowers in full bloom. Wear good walking shoes, pack a snack, and bring your camera.
Leland Powell
I go several times a week. Enjoy photographing the flowers and settings. It is quiet and peaceful and feels like it is out of the city. Spring & summer most colorful. Get a family membership & enjoy often all year round. It is a great buy. Come & bring your camera, bring your kids.
Chris Guitarte
In August of 2013, I held my wedding here and it was a great experience. The grounds are just beautiful, and the upper meadow was the perfect place for both my wedding ceremony and reception.
If you're planning your wedding or another evening type of event here, I would make sure that you have enough lighting (we had globe lights and that wasn't quite enough even though we had plenty of them strung throughout), and that you have heat lamps available (it was much cooler than we expected once the sun came down) if your event is going to go into the evening.
Lowell Gutknecht
Great place. We even got passes. My wife loves to go see all the different flowers they got. However they still have some long standing areas that are just dirt that I wish they at least put some grass on.
Katie Atkins
My whole family absolutely loves coming here. Membership is so affordable and definitely worth it because we come at least one a month. The kids club and adventures that they rotate out are our favorites. If you have little ones it's a perfect way to get the out of the house. Everytime we go, we see something new. I could go on and on!
Shari Twidwell
I love it here. It's HUGE, and the programming is great. I wish the hours were more expansive, and that there was some sort of food available, but otherwise, there is plenty of parking, the grounds are GORGEOUS, and there's no way to see everything in one day. The people are nice, the information is great, and the gift shop is cute. I love going to the concerts they've got here.
Sarah Jean Bryson
Wonderful gardens. Adorable little area for kids, nice walks and variety of areas to see. One reviewer complained about the lack of a lake and doesn't believe the drought is to blame... umm... obviously not been in California long. There very much is a drought and although recent rain, obviously not enough to fix the lake for their enjoyment. This place is wonderful and I have been coming with my mommy friends to sit in the sun on the grass for over a year. Will be renewing my membership because we love it so much and it's not the closest drive for me. I highly recommend

Great place to get away from the hustle of the city. It spans nearly 90 acres and was started in 1961 after it was decommissioned as a landfill. It's amazing how quickly some of the trees and shrubs have grown. There are some formal gardens and a children's garden close to the entry. If you venture out deeper into the garden you can find many themed areas. There is the banyan grove with its massive rubber trees, and one of the largest palm collections anywhere. There are pine woods where you can easily think you are in the mountains. There are areas for Magnolias, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Ginkgo, and even redwoods. One of the very first gardens to be planted was the Desert Garden, filled with cacti and succulents from around the world, all thriving in the Mediterranean climate here on the peninsula. The Desert Garden is constantly being expanded to keep pace with the water-wise times we live in. Most plants throughout the gardens are labeled, in keeping with the educational mission. The gardens have several education programs and there are societies that meet at the gardens regularly, check out the calendar on their website. If you live locally or are just visiting, the Gardens are worth a visit to learn about plants, get some exercise, or just sit and relax in the peace and quiet under the shade of some trees.

This was a really nice find. A great place to get out, explore, and relax. Bring your walking shoes and pedometer.
You may want to check the schedule if you're wanting to take lots of flower pictures. I went in the middle of October and there were some flowers, but not a ton of them. Most of the flowering plants were near the rose garden. However, you may find some blossoming gems scattered throughout the facility.
Don't forget about the Japanese garden at the front (towards the right as you walk in).
Bottom line: Great place for photographers.
Michelle St.Claire
The Gardens are a great local place to have some peace right in the city. Enjoy Sunny trails and Shady paths along with Grassy Meadows and lots of blooming flowers. Bring your allergy pills! I saw some people doing an Easter egg hunt which would be awesome! There is a small makeshift gift shop at the moment but they said they're building a new gift shop. The Gardens have family movie night and some other events occasionally.
Benjamin Rojas
I went to the event Glow here at the Gardens. It is such a Wonderful time!!!! If you have a chance. Don't miss this Event!!!!!! Beautiful for the whole Family!!!!!💛💙💜💚❤ …
Jason Calizar
Went here for their GLOW event. Great event. Nice seeing the gardens at night lit up with colored lights themed to music.
Carmen James
This place is fantastic. So much to see. Brought my family for kids club event. Each station had an activity for the kids to enjoy. Saw wedding taking place, family picnics and a maternity photoshoot. Worth it to get yearly membership since it will be a challenge to cover the entire grounds in one trip. We will defintely be back.
Kathy Thomas
Funtimes with the grandkids checking out the butterflies at SCB!
Matthew Ballew
This place is so incredibly delightful. It's a lovely sanctuary and I highly recommend getting a membership. Honestly one of the best botanic gardens I have visited. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. Perfection!
Gary Lew
Great time of year to go, lots of flowers in bloom, the different fragrances are everywhere. A few people there, but lots of space to keep social distance.
Jim Cenname
This is a large facility, rose garden is beautiful. Much if the botanical garden seems natural. It was not crowded on the free Tuesday of the month. This garden is in a different league than the Huntington, more like the LA Arboretum. Still very enjoyable.
Nima Lal
This place has amazing little corners to just sit, relax, and enjoy a book. I mean it. There are literal benches at practically every corner of each garden section. The amount of work it must take to creat such beauty must be astounding, but I hardly saw any workers there. You can buy plants and gardening paraphernalia at the gift shop and they have various programs you can participate in and seem to engage the community very well. I would definitely come back here. Unfortunately I went just before the Cherry blossoms were in full bloom, but will see if I can catch them next time around.
Adam Borgeson
Very fun to explore, more than my wife and I could do I'm one go, so we upgraded to the second tier membership so we could go frequently. It's very pretty. Also a good place to go to play Ingress.
Lukaa Francesca
Beautiful and interesting plants to see year-round. The children's discovery garden is a cute place to walk and is close to the entrance for tots that don't like long walks. Watering the plants with the watering cans in the discovery garden is a favorite activity as well as visiting the fish in the koi pond. They have a rose garden, some fountains, a picnic area, and the died up lakebed (not as pretty as a lake, but it was lush with soft grass when I visited.) A full exploration with only a few stops will let you see the whole garden in roughly two hours, but there's so much to see that a leisurely walk with curious kids could burn a good 4 hours if you explore every path. Lots of shade and benches to provide relief to tired legs, but even little legs and not so little legs should be able to get around just fine, especially on the main path. The more forested paths may be tricky for the young and elderly as the roots are tripping hazards, but the main path is paved and most of the trails are navigable for the cautious.
Summer is a great time to visit. There are usually many plants in bloom as well as lizards, butterflies, beetles, and maybe even a falcon or two for you to see on your walk. Winter still offers many sights, gotta love that California sun, but if you're hoping for insects and wildlife to admire, there will be slimmer pickings.
Ideal spot for picnics, nature walks, and introducing kids to the wonders of nature. Most plants have plaques so the inquisitive can learn to identify both native and foreign flora. Cheap admission but every third Tuesday is free! Restrooms are clean, but they're at the edges of the garden, making it a bit of a trek if you're at the lakebed and need to go. Snacks are available near the entrance, along with a small gift shop! Occasionally, there are Pokemon Go! Events for older kids (and adults) who need that tech fix.
Jason Karuza
Summary: A pretty awesome garden. Lots to see and it changes throughout the year. Plenty of parking, nice staff, and a good cause to support.
If you live in South Bay, the South Coast Botanic Garden is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon. There are many flowers, cacti, trees, and critters to see. Lots of musical performance occur throughout the warmer months, and they even have a Ferrari show where car owners bring their classic and modern cards to display. There were over 45 this year (it was awesome!). If you like the outdoors, like walking around, like photography of amazing flowers and things, this is a great place to enjoy a day or a season of opportunity. I've been a member for one year and have just signed up for my second. :)
Leah Workman
This has been, for years, one of my all time favorite local spots. Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful.
The last time we went the exhibits were messy, the pond drained, rose gardens cordoned off in sections, and signs, all over, with signs filled with a metric boatload of picky rules everywhere you went.
I hope it's just temporary and seasonal, and not some new management policy or something, and we'll give it another try in the spring to see if it was just a case of the winter blahs and something recent that caused them to write boards and posters full of rules all over and leave the place poorly maintained.
Waite's Treasures
Always something in bloom. Great place to walk around and explore nature. Today we saw a bunny! Good place for kids to run around. You do need a reservation right now due to covid.
sydney wen
Beautiful stroll in the park, all kinds of green stuff, trees of bunch sizes/types and it's got a lake but today it was bone dry despite LA getting months of rain this year. I saw a bunch of kids running around and it wasn't too crowded either. saw humming birds too but no wabbits, for what it's worth i like it that one can feel like one is surrounded by green nature instead of browness for change of pace
Belinda Rideout Clark
Do not follow Google's direction it has you turning on Rolling Hills, stay on Crenshaw and you will see the main entrance on your left. It is so peaceful and the flowers and the cherry blossoms are gorgeous. Nice walking place
Tonia Wierzel
Great place to take the kids! There was music, lights, so much to see! We really had a great time.
John Lockhart
Great experience. Can't wait to go back.
Jose Perdomo
Beautiful garden, well kept. Perfect for taking wedding photos, graduation photos, or for doing yoga. All it needs is a food stand and it's perfect.
Darcy A
Beautiful place to spend the day. It's a huge park so if you're into day walking through beautiful grounds this is the place. If you want to use the bathroom id recommend using it at the entrance, otherwise you're stuck using porta potties.
Karen Borna
Absolutely enchanting scenery and lots of land to explore! I took my grandkids here and they loved it. They ran around, stopped and took pictures with all the beautiful flowers. We had a wonderful time and would gladly be back
Kawa Kuller
Beautiful. Sprawling gardens. Lots of interesting plants to look at. The garden is a lot bigger than you'd think. Lots of different paths and areas to explore. We kind of did a loop and were there a few hours. Take a big water bottle with you. We didn't and regretted it. The only water available that we found was at the entrance
Kathleen V
Beautiful and peaceful scenery to stroll through.
Maria Casanova
Beautiful place! My 5 year old had a lot of fun hiding behind trees and collecting pine cones. I was looking for things to do with kids now that almost everything is closed and this was a great findig. We'll be back.
morena sal
A true gem inside the LA concrete jungle. Lovely place to get some respite from city life. I love going for an afternoon walk and a picnic. The garden has extensive trails criss crossing throughout so you can go for a long exploration or a casual walk. You can spend the entire day walking around and still not see it all.
Romeo Cabug
Kids love the gardens and easy hike.
Randomness
I might've gotten lost along the way but it honestly made it better! This place is HUGE and every part of it is filled with beautiful nature. You can explore it alone or with others and in every spot you can find some kind of animal or insect. Such a beautiful spot.
Terry Bixler
This is a treasure. Beautiful gardens. Trees flowers. Cactus. I joined the Botanic gardens and became a member. The gardens are extensive and I cannot imagine seeing them all in one day. Take your time and give your sense s a thrill.
David Haley
We were there for our friend's wedding and it was simply marvelous. The amphitheater where the couple was married had beautiful blossoming cherry trees and the koi pond where the reception was held was tastefully done. But the gem of the day was the children's garden and the living wall. I highly recommend it.
Joseph Shokitano
Great place to visit. Fun day for all ages.
Kevin Liebson
Absolutely stunning and an amazing place to visit. The staff is so welcoming and it is a pleasure to see the exhibitions, plants, and other attractions!
John English
Soar was a bit crowded but 500 🦋 s are awesome. Lots of beautiful plants flowers and trees. Plenty of hiking trails. Good time.... …
Jackson Casimiro
Like Disneyland for plants! I like plants.
Shadowkeeper 1110
Great place for some local nature when you can't get out of the city
Terrell Woods
A gem of a place to visit when a drive out of the South Bay may be a bit too much. These gardens are not on the grand scale as the Huntington or Descanso Gardens but don't let that fool you because less crowds and a smaller park make this a perfect day visit. Being so close to the ocean a nice breeze is ever present even on the warmest of days.
Stefin Loki
They always take care of the flowers and they welcome everone. People with EBT cards can go for free and the workers are so so so nice. Perfect area for a nice walk, perfect area to bring your family, you can have picnics there (just don't forget to clean up you trash) and it's a perfect area for a date. It also awed me when I learned about the botanical gardens history! They bought a land that was filled to the brim with trash and they cleaned it up, planted flowers and made it a beautiful heaven. If your in the area, then please go visit it. If your not in the area they I would recommend a road trip to visit it.
Bridget Barry
We had a great time. So many gorgeous colors and textures of plants 🥰 …
Nicole Dial
I had ulterior motives for visiting as the mister was playing a concert there, but I truly enjoyed my summer afternoon visit. The rose garden still had blooms to share; there were plenty of shady benches to seek refuge on; and I got to hear the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band warm up as I explored the grounds. All in all, a pretty nice spot to wander around in while visiting the peninsula.
Adrian Herrera
I work there so just want to let it be known that South Coast botancial Garden is paradise here on earth. people enjoyed every day the new rose 🌹 garden is awesome. A new piece to our home. And we will continue to up grade our 87 Acres of paradise. Come and enjoy. See 👀 you there. Working on five star 🌟 but 4 to 41/2 now …
Tim Koehler
If you live in South bay and have kids - get the family pass. It's a very pleasant Saturday morning visit away from the hustle and bustle. Multiple visits yield new things to see. They have seasonal scavenger hunts which make it more purposeful, and the kids get excited to find the next thing. The new rose garden is breathtaking.
ethan laden
This beautiful garden used to be a sanitary landfill, though you'd never know it now. It's great for strolling with your family. Occasionally you may wander into a film shoot.!
Get the annual membership. It pays for itself quickly.
Melissa F
Wonderful & quiet garden. It was much larger than we expected. Great for walking and taking in the relaxing beautiful scenery. Picnic area was nice and definitely on our to do list to make a longer day trip here.
Jim Hill
While there is generally some part that is under renovation at any time, they have some nice interesting parts, for example the fig tree forest. There are lots of benches all over and plenty of clean trails for a long walk in a pleasant atmosphere.
It's also very good for kids with a special children's garden and a on CE relaxing koi pond.
Alicia Simmons
Every third Tues free admission. Give a donation tho! This place is a beautiful getaway in LA. They have lots of fun events. Seasonal scavenger hunts. Plants and trees from all over the world and lots of local natives of course. Rose garden beautiful. Lots of sun bring sunblock. I enjoy it here on a cooler day. There is a mile loop, great refreshing place for exercise.
Pamella DeFrancis
A lovely walk through structured and unstructured garden areas. We encountered several knowledgable staff members. Many of the plants and trees are well marked. There is a gift shop. When we were there in October the Garden Club was selling plants as a fundraiser. There are adult workshops and children's gardens and events. There is a reasonable entrance fee.
Andrew
Very nice and peaceful, came here for the first time and enjoyed it very much. I look forward to coming back soon 👍 …
Eric L
Very nice place to go with family. We went on a Friday afternoon, and everything seemed safe, socially distanced, and beautiful. We absolutely loved the butterfly area!
Janice Champion
I walk weekly in the garden and every time the is something new to see.
Jim DeStefano
Nice place to take a stroll or just unwind. Huge area only a small portion of which is tendered gardens. $9 no discount entry fee is pretty stiff, but $6 for seniors OK. Needs more tables where families with small children can picnic.
Karam Abdalla
great place for a summer walk. Kids enjoyed the butterfy exibit
Dreamer
Firstly the peace to eyes, and it is spring, you would witness some of the beautiful flowers this time here along with cherry blossoms. A great family spot to enjoy, visit the flora. Accessible from Crenshaw Blvd in Palos Verdes, this garden is the best place to visit if you love flora. Opens at 9am and closes 5pm.There is an entrance ticket for everyone, toddlers under 4 are free. Below 18 have to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets start from $9 to $4, also you can get an annual membership card. Ample parking, restrooms and a gift shop is there. Give it a visit or have a picnic here, you would love this place. Just a fact about this place, it was a landfill which was converted into a beautiful Batonic garden like this. enjoy!! #letsguide #OnGoogleMaps #localguides #wheelchairaccessible #parks
H. J. Page
Loved the succulent show today and the artists scattered throughout the gardens. The signage on the trees and plants is so helpful. Much better than I have seen in other gardens.
Kayla Martyn
This place is so nice to come walk around and enjoy some nature. I also like to find a secluded bench and read. I can really get away and off my phone and outside. I always leave feeling so relaxed and at peace.
Guillermina Carrillo
Variety of plants and flowers. Birds and trees.
Noel
Lots of scenes.. plenty of space.. great spot to draw, clear your mind, meditate or do yoga. It's a HUGE space with a little bit of everything.
And they offer party/wedding options.
David Kartsonis
This place is a wonderful hidden gem in the area. It’s beautiful to walk around anytime, but they also have special events that are a lot of fun.
It’s a must have membership if you have kids in the area.
Karen Bourges
We love this place! It is so quiet and colorful and just the right size to have a nice walk but not be exhausted after. Fun family place to relax and picnic.
Ed Matyk
Not bad staff is cool
Had a plant show going on when I was there
Free parking
There doing a lot of renovation to the gardens .
If you like lots of different varieties of trees they have almost every species of tree
They have a great Japanese garden
Check out the gift shop for plants
The drought has hit this place very hard
Is a very nice green space in California
Justin Allen
Calm, quiet, safe to visit during the pandemic. Our kids enjoyed exploring, though it was really hot so we didn't stay very long.
Anna Kim
It’s just amazing place to refresh my eyes!
Janice Pon-Ishikawa
Love this place. We just enjoyed their pumpkin hunt. It is fun to be outdoors walking through a beautiful garden with a purpose. My niece and son love running and looking for the pumpkins.
Oriana Gumm
Beautiful any time of the year, but spring is extra special
David Benavides
A relaxing place, beautiful on the spring, the rose garden is awesome when the Rose's are blooming, lots of hummingbirds on spring, and autumn. Plenty of parking. Good for weedings.
Ciro Noronha
There's a lot to see here, you'll need a full day. Went in the summer, the lake and creek were dry.
Interpreter - Debbie King
Truly a beautiful place! Lots of variety and its all very well kept. If I lived closer, I'd have a membership and visit often. Very peaceful and there's so much to explore!
Angela Gonzalez
It's such a beautiful place ... The Butterfly exhibit was an incredible experience.. butterfly's landed on me , just had to stay real still... It was awesome
Nathan Tiras
Beautiful park, lots of space, great place to take the kids during covid. Great pricing for an annual pass. Massive value and a real lifesaver!
Teri Screen
Everything is in bloom! There are placards you can follow throughout the gardens with the "bloom" on them. Many activities happen here as well. The children's music day was great.
Joseph R Cooper
Taking the $5.00 tram ride after seeing the front part of the gardens was a plus. We did expect more flowers, but those were concentrated in the rose garden. To learn this was one a trash dump after miners finished their digging was another interesting fact.
David Van Dyke
This is a great place. If you just want to relax and get your head together go here! I can't believe I've lived in the South Bay for 33 years and never visited until now! We will be regular visitors.
Margaret Dohner
This is a huge place, wonderfully designed, with incredible gardens, nice benches and seating areas strewn throughout. Be prepared for a lot of walking. I would love to come back here again and again.
Terry Phelps
Such a friendly fun place 4 picnics and hidden meadow. Watching koi fish, or turtles swimming in the pond. Beautiful Rose's and Catus plants. I loved the weeping willow tree's..
I'm glad, I wore tenney shoes & not sandals. Bring your own packed lunch and plenty of WATER to drink. Enjoy!
Sofia Morales
A hidden jewel, they sell memberships with free access to 300 natural gardens around the country, it's exquisite worthy for the whole family, plus you get member discount at the store and a deductible amount from your taxes... So you always win. The arboretrum in Arcadia is in their list... Let's enjoy the wonderful nature around us,
Zebra Talk
Although it isn't as colorful this time of the year, it's still a nice place to to escape from the hustle and noise of the city.
It would be nicer if the dry lake wasn't dry and no music playing in different locations in the park.
Jean L
I've lost track the number of times I've visited SCBG. The rose garden is one of my favorite parts, located near the front. My other favorite part, depending on the season, is the cherry blossoms! The most recent time visiting was in late March with cherry blossoms in full bloom. All the beautiful shades of pink! The light breeze enhanced the cherry blossom scent.
I also like walking along the paved road, nicely maintained. Although some parts hilly, some parts flat, good for mixing up a leisure walk. There are different placards around SCBG so I know about each plant. I believe there's an audio version, but have yet to try it.
I usually visit the gift shop before I leave, I've found some great treasures from note cards to small gifts to trinkets. The prices are fair and each time I chat it up with the staff member, they're always so nice.
I'm already planning my next trip back to SCBG!
Shonique “Sho” Cherrington
My first time here and I love it, we had a picnic and ate lunch.. walked around and saw the beautiful gardens.. very peaceful and my daughter had fun
Bradley Keith
We went at exactly the right time. All the Roses were in bloom and the gardens were absolutely beautiful. We especially liked the Cactus & succulent garden
Judy Cocke
Wear a hat, bring water, comfy walking shoes, lots of hills but many benches to rest & enjoy this beautiful treasure in the South Bay. Every 3rd Tuesday is free but I'm sure you would love to join the Membership 😊 …
Jordana Fung
Amazing place with wonderful gardens. And definitely try to go when the cherry blossoms are in bloom! I went in March for the cherry blossom festival and it was well worth the $9 entry fee.
Jose Amaral Jr
$9 entrance fee and free parking. This place is so large that I was not able to finish seen all the exhibits in one day. There is a nice koi pond near the entrance and lots of different type of plants, flowers and other natural stuff to see.
The day I attended there where hosting a Ferrari car show which was part of the entrance fee.
Donna Mincheff
Absolutely lovely. Much larger than expected. Plan to go back and see the estimated 70% that we did not get to see. A lot of uneven terrain so do not recommend for those that are not sure footed. Expect to do a lot of walking and bring water.
Justin Bates
In the city there is a forest filled with bountiful, beautiful fona and flora. Bring the kids and your walking shoes. Best to bring pen and paper if you are also looking for ideas to upgrade your garden!
malia harris
Ample parking, reservations are required but you can easily get one a week ahead. Bring a snack and enjoy the beautiful walking paths
Kenya Williams
We had so much fun in this relaxing and quiet environment. It was great to get out into nature on this warm summer day. We were able to be physically distant from the others who were enjoying the gardens with us. We're thinking about getting a membership!
Naomi Altamirano
I love this place, really a hidden gem with so much to explore on the grounds. The customer service is great and there is a huge succulent wall that’s worth checking out right near the entrance.
Lucky P
Amazing place to have a picnic and check out all the plants of the world. Very nice place to enjoy the out side with the wife some one on one time. If you bring kids they will be bored.
Doug Felt
First came here 40 years ago. Large, old specimens of some trees-- Moreton Bay Figs in particular. Nice cactus area, some other areas a bit run-down. Seems to have had a bit more funding recently, renovations in progress.
Kendrick Celestin
This was my first time going in that place I really enjoyed it. I had such a great experience got there early and 6 minutes. I had six people came at the same time as me. It was huge garden plainfield on the mountains.
Alexander Greene
The botanic gardens are absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful place to spend the day with family or friends. Entry is fairly inexpensive, and goes towards managing the beautiful gardens.
kelly ann sharman
My friend who is a member brought us. I hadn't been in 25 years, since I was growing up nearby. It's got great places for kids to play and explore. My toddlers loved it.
Leesa Luck
Went there for a function. It was beautiful. All of the plants were just starting to bloom and it looked well kept and interesting.
James Howat
The butterfly exhibit is a brilliant addition to the gardens.
Very nice to see children so fascinated by the butterflies.
Jennie Galang
Beautiful place, so peaceful! We loved the Butterflies and the staff there was so friendly.
Olivia Lipman
I really like visiting the botanic gardens and do have membership but I would definitely visit more regularly and bring friends with me if there was a cafe. There is a fridge in the shop which sells limited canned drinks but sometimes the shop isn't open.
hollow
Absolutely love it. Lots of species from around the world, including a few I've never heard of. The Banyan grove is by far my favorite part. Also, got to watch a black widow eat a giant bee. 👍 …
Tony Arenas
So beautiful and peaceful that I was transported to another dimension ♡
Ogen van Geest
Plants, flowers. Much rebuilding. (April 2017 the Rose Garden was closed and the lake was dry). By public transportation there is a 30 minute walk uphill. They should have some arrangement to ferry visitors up the hill from Crenshaw and PCH.
D.J Darole
What a very lovely place.. My friend had their wedding and the reception held in this place. Great parking structure, restrooms are both big and clean. Very Friendly crew who help us til the party is over.
Michael Stewart
What a great hidden gem. Must visit to get away from the noise and hustle.
carl morandell
The smell of the place, so fresh, so delicious. You need to walk around and just smell everything! And visit the koi, these fish already know to get near the humans for food!
Randy Lee
Beautiful, serene area with a dark secret. Lots of variety, and short walking trails. Areas for weddings and events. Koi pond, birds, rose garden. Take the tram tour to find out the secret.
Sohl Kim
Staff is nice and friendly. The large park near the entrance is a great place to have a snack and enjoy a picnic.
R0n zilla
Went for the dog event. This place is huge. Plenty of spots to hang out and have a pic nic. If u are a person who appreciates nature u will enjoy this place.
Don Doughty
Follow Crenshaw Blvd South up the hill to the South Coast Botanic Garden, located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. If your in the area take a few hours and visit several of the gardens, bring water if you plan to walk the trails. During the past several years, they have made great progress battling the weeds invading the borders of the garden property, (use the time slider in Google Earth to see their effort).
Christy Me
Wonderful grounds, extensive acreage & always something new to see! Fun & interesting events & activities on a regular basis. I highly recommend purchasing a membership & exploring often.
Kimberly Melissa

Laurie Hosepian
It a beautiful and peaceful place. Lots of easy walking paths. You can even take a lunch and have a picnic.

It can be an all day affair, perhaps a daily affair:)
It's romantic, quiet, peaceful. Other visitors seemed polite and respectful of each others visit.
The educational possibilities seemed endless. ❤
Armando Lopez
Great place to visit. Make sure you have enough time because it'll take a couple hours at least. Try using the tram to see more of this beautiful place.
