Reviews of Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site
Such an incredible landmark to visit. Also amazing is that it's still a functioning high school.
Kids were coming in and out of the front while our park ranger was giving us a tour from the outside. Presentation was given on the front steps.
Everyone should visit to better understand how segregation was, sadly, started in America. The path was long and horrendous but the students that endured the unspeakable torment made it possible for so many more to move forward.
This site goes well beyond information strictly pertaining to the high school. It also covers women’s rights, workers’ rights, etc - because we’re not free until we’re all free. The ranger who met me at the door was obviously passionate and helpful. The NPS app is a helpful addition, especially to visiting the grounds. I wish I had planned ahead better, so that I would be able to take a guided tour.
Beyond worth your time.
Well detailed account of the events that happened. Really enjoyed all video accounts that you can listen to at your own pace. It's free, with plenty of parking. A short walk to the school itself, which is still an active school.
I really enjoyed learning more about this pivotal moment in education and civil rights. The ranger here added valuable insight in addition to the great displays. This NP is free. This is a must see if you enjoy history. Even if you are not staying in Little Rock it's a quick stop off of either interstate.
If you are in Little Rock this is a must stop! There is something for everyone learn about what happened to the "Little Rock Nine". Very eye opening experience!
Beautiful architecture of the building with century old history. You will immerse in the breathtaking design and landscaping. Don’t miss the early 1900s Mobil gas station across the street.
Wonderful experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Wish we were able to enter the school.
We were lucky to get a tour of the school, you have to book in advance. The tour of the school was ok..not too much to see..just an older school(still in use) that looks like it's from the 1950's. The great part of the tour was the ranger stories and all the questions he answered. Go and make sure to get the tour. They also have the Jr ranger program here for the kids. No pictures in the school.
The visitor was an excellent opportunity to learn a lot, it was very organized and easy to understand. It isb free and there is a gift shop at the end of the museum. Don't forget to buy a t-shirt or keychain.
One of the best and most engaged park rangers we've come across. This is a definite must-see. Park at the visitor center and tour the exhibit first and talk with the ranger. I would also recommend the junior ranger activity for all ages (yes, even adults). Then walk over to the gas station and the school and try and put yourself in the students' places. We've come a long way, but this is a turning point that we all need to remember. Highly recommend a visit.
I loved learning and sharing the history with my children. Although difficult to see what transpired back then, it's good to see what we need to avoid now.
To put this review in context I am 73 and grew up in Ohio. I have memories of tv showing the events of Sep 57. When asked who the governor of AR was, I remembered Orville Faubus. I remember adults praising Ike for "sending the paratroopers in to kick a$$."
Now to today's visit. A beautiful park. Well explained. The rangers did a great job. Powerful. Our group (2 adults, 2 tweens) talked more than we did all trip. I didn't feel entitled. I felt proud that our government saw a wrong and fixed it. Still proud of what Ike did. There was no mention of the race of the paras. They were ordered to right a wrong and they did.
A powerful experience
A great introduction to the history of civil rights in the United States from 1787 US Constitution (voting rights only for white, male property owners, etc.) to recent events with a focus on school segregation and desegregation history in North (e.g., resistance to busing) and South. We’ll worth a visit, along with the State Capitol tour and Clinton Library if you’re interested in history, architecture and politics. This is particularly good for grade school age children or older who have a 15+ minute attention span.
Note museum opens at 10 and not 9 as advertised in some places and the Central HS building is still an active high school so tours require advance reservations and can sell out well in advance.
My family visited Little Rock Central High School through the National Park Service's tours in which we were given about a 1.5 hour educational tour of the area/outside perimeter of the school. Our tour was lead by the park ranger Brian, who did an INCREDIBLE job painting the picture of what it was like back in the late 1950s for those extremely brave students to try to integrate this school. Having Brian provide essential context and insight about this pivotal moment in US history made visiting this site very worthwhile. I highly recommended going on the National Park Service tour as the rangers provide critical information about this time period that many of us most likely had never learned about in school. Brian specifically was not only so knowledgeable about telling this story in an accurate and intentional manner but also very passionate about keeping this story alive.
A must visit park for a must hear story! Take the tour if possible as it helps to bring the heart breaking yet triumph history alive. This is a must visit for school aged kids for sure.
I took my family this week and It was breathtaking. The ranger was very knowledgeable of the event from that time. I mad that I didn't get his name. Overall great visit.
The museum is filled with great information and tells the story of Little Rock Central High School. The guided tour and presentation from the rangers was the best and helped to place you into the event.
Our park ranger Noah was very informative and made this tour well worth our time. Noah put it in real life perspective through the lens of the “Central High Nine”. Take the tour. You will not regret it.
Not a large exhibit but powerful nonetheless. I was too young to understand this at the time so I learned a lot. The Little Rock Nine were a brave group of young people.
A great historical treasure! It's wonderful to see the architecture and history of a truly unique school. Tour the wadding pool representing all the Little Rock Nine and future students. See the guardians that describe the values of the school.
We were thrilled that the site has a visitors center with historical video. We were also able to purchase books written by the Nine.
There's also a neat gas station that has been preserved from the time period.
This gem of a national park has a visitors center with parking in proximity to central high school. There are also some Memorial grounds and restored building at the school intersections. I was amazed at how large the school was compared to the historical pictures.
We decided to stop here on our drive home from Arkansas to Florida. We’re an interracial marriage and it’s important for our kids to understand the history of both races and the struggles of bringing equality and civil rights to people of color in the U.S.A. It’s hard for them to understand that one point in time it was illegal for their parents to be married.
The museum was awesome and the rangers were considerate and helpful. Our kids loved the museum and continued to talk about it hours after we left. We spent about two hours here simply soaking in all of the information. There is so much social (in)justice history in this building. We will definitely return and attempt to book a tour of the high school.
A truly important landmark site in US history. The museum is well organized, full of information, and straightforward to navigate. A mask was required to enter the museum and store. The park attendant was emphatic about the gravity of what the Little Rock Nine experienced, and the entire experience was truly beneficial to understanding more about how far our nation has come socially since that time as well as how close by it was temporally to current day. The entire museum as well as getting to walk around the school campus would take about an hour to an hour and a half, but you could also potentially spend much longer especially if you take a tour.
Emotional visit to this historic place. To be in the same location and walk the same steps as these courageous people. You need to be there in order to experience the gravity of the situation. The visitor center had so much information and was nicely laid out. I highly recommend visiting. Took us about an hour and a half.
I wish I could have taken buses of chicken here for a school revival!! This historical site is beautiful, very honest and inspiring. It's a must see ....... I really like the pictures showing photos of the students together after integration. It was 👍 great! …
Very detailed history of the location is available to read in a visually pleasing manner. The ranger with blue hair (at the time!) Was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, will go back!
Wow. I wish we would have spent more time at this visitors center! What a great place to better understand this time in history and the challenges we still face today. The lead ranger, (Keith?) was so incredibly friendly and well informed. He spent lots of time with my wife and I discussing not only the events remembered at LRCHS, but also how this has changed the community in recent years. He represented the park service well. Thank you for your service and passion for this historical place.
Very informative park. They have done an excellent job of preserving a pivotal event in U.S. history.
Beautiful grounds. The Park service has a building nearby that tells the story.
Very informtive. Great tour and guide. Beautiful school and grounds. A immersive walking tour to understand what 9 students experienced.
Take the guided tour. Our tour guide was so good our kids retained so much of the information! Only an hour and a half and it's free so you can't beat that.
The school is beautiful! It wasn't open for public to visit indoors but it is definitely gorgeous from outside. You can visit the small museum that they have a visitor center which provides plenty of history about what happened at the place. They have free parking which is always a plus.
This was kind of a spur of the moment stop on a road trip and boy was it worth it. We were able to get in on a tour, although we could only go outside. The tour was informative and it felt surreal to be in such a place. Definitely eye opening for my son, whose in middle school now. I woukd recomend it for every middle and high schooler out there
Painted a great picture of what happened in the past. Great exhibits and photos. Great for the whole family. Staff was amazing and helpful.
As a history teacher who lives in Florida I was thrilled to see the high school and the history behind it when I recently visited friends in Little Rock!
The visitors can walk around the school from the outside and see the museum inside the visitor center. If you want parking, that's at the visitor center. The architecture is beautiful and the place is historically significant! It's also the most expensive high school in the country!
Very educational. Heartbreaking truth at the courage of 9 African American teenagers, that opened doors for all nationalities and races.
The visitor's center is directly across from the school. They have done such a great job organizing facts, pictures, news footage and pictures! Also, the people working there are very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. You can walk out of the center and see the High School which is still in use. Very impactful.
This was the first time that I had been to a National Historic Site and it did not disappoint!
The exhibit was wonderful and full of information not told in history books. Ranger Randy Dotson was amazing and answered all of my questions about the events leading up to Little Rock Nine and integration in Arkansas and he shared a lot of insight on the things that were displayed. I hate that I didn’t get a chance to finish the exhibit.
I happened to be there in time to tag along for the 1pm tour that they give with more of a visual presentation of the information and a short walk to the school. Ranger Brian Schwieger was an amazing guide that really painted a picture of the heroism and the opposition that took place at Little Rock Central High School and all the other events that lead up to the Little Rock Nine.
I highly recommend visiting this place and I will be back to finish the exhibit.
We took the ranger tour which was quite a bit longer than we were told it would be when we registered. It was still going on after two hours when we left. It was supposed to be one hour.
I been wanting to come here. For me this holds a sentimental place in my heart being afro-latina. The visitor center was closed do to all the crazy stuff happening in Our world but i got to see the school and it was breath taking .
The tour guide did a fabulous job telling the history/story of the Arkansas 9.
The tour was great! Highly educated ranger Rebecca Really learned alot. Felt so real with walking the steps
Excellent museum. The guide giving the tour was very knowledgeable and professional. This is an excellent National Park Service unit to visit.
It was closed. But sitting there is enough to feel the history. Plus the building itself is an art.
Short little stop along an I-40 roadtrip. Not more than 30 minutes spent at this site. Before coming, I questioned why a high school would be a national park unit. Now, after visiting, I understand the importance that this high school had in forming the United States as we know it today.
Definitely a stop you have to do
Wasn't able to go inside since it was closed on a Sunday but the architecture and the grounds were a delight to be around.
Very good. Good to see the actual place where 9 high school students were brave enough to stand up for their rights to equal treatment.
Outstanding NPS site and well worth a stop. We’ve been to many parks, but never have we been so moved by the experience. The visitor center and self-guided tour will give you a sense of what happened here, but taking a ranger-led tour will make you feel it. You MUST book ahead for the tour! Do it! Ranger Randy was amazing. Incredible experience - thank you!
Small museum with interactive stations. Courteous rangers. Travelling thru Little Rock and decided to make a quick stop. Glad I came. Short walk around the grounds of Little Rock Central High and the memorial garden.
Definitely neat to check out. Twas interesting to find it still operating. Saw lots of cops in the area, though.
Awe-inspiring! We need to NEVER forget this place!! Racism is alive and (un)well in the USA and we need to remember the struggle of those who came before us!
Learned so much. Take time to watch all the videos & read all the information available. Very important piece of history!
Not only is this a simultaneously inspiring but depressing story of equal rights denied and justice delayed but the ranger guide was amazing. Patti Cummings was knowlegable, passionate, and vividly dramatic. This guided experience was a real sleeper in our tour of the civil rights historic sites. Don't miss your chance for a free visit and an opportunity to walk with the Little Rock Nine and re-live this painful episode in dramatic detail.
Loved our experience at the central high school. Great knowledgeable rangers who give you much more insight than the textbooks share.
Outstanding tour. Our guide Fabian knew his stuff and the whole tour was well laid out very time appropriate. He really brought the Little Rock 9 to life using the people's own perspectives. It made we wonder how the whites who were captured in so many of those sad photographs harassing blacks feel about it now. Hopefully very differently. Got to go into the school and what an impressive building that is. I really scheduled this as my parents were with us and they were young kids at the time this took place. They found it to be an excellent tour.
An amazing museum that helped a lot with my historic research about educational integration and the segregation politics.
I would recommend the tour. I've read many books, but learned so much from the Ranger.
Excellent tour. Well informed park rangers. I learned so much history.
They've kept the building up well. Great landscaping for a high school. Obviously of great historical significance in the US.
Not a good part of our History, but it .she's us strive to be better. The history here is unbelievable.
An interesting and inspiring stop while you are in Little Rock. It is amazing to read and hear the story of the Little Rock Nine. They are an example of how ordinary people can do extraordinary things to bring about change they believe in.
Informative exhibit on the Little Rock Crisis of 57. Limited to 10 people at a time in the visitor center currently. No tours are currently being offered inside the school.
Very informative exhibits from a disturbing era when segregation was enforced in schools throughout the South. Little Rock Central High was ground zero in the fall of segregation in schools.
Well done free exhibit with visual. video, pictures, voice testimonials. 15 per person allowed in exhibit. Masks required. Allow 45 min. Park at visitor center across from gas station.
Love the history and the upkeep. A quick on and off the highway. Great stop along the way to or from Memphis.
This was definitely worth the short detour on our west after visiting the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis.
They did a great job in highlighting what happened at the school as well as highlights other civil right movements such as women rights, worker’s rights etc.
Randy was a wealth of knowledge and super friendly!
We walked over to the school after and reflected about the incident. Great for our kids to hear about and to try to understand what happened and the significance.
I really enjoyed walking through the visitor center and reading all of the historical information about the Little Rock Nine and the civil rights movement! They have videos of footage from the Little Rock Nine’s three attempts at entering the high school, and audio recordings of interviews with the students and others who were present. There’s also a gift shop with awesome books. The entire facility was clean and they were taking precautions to keep guests safe from covid. There’s also a walk-through garden across the street!
The High school in its present state is a spectacular building. The historic information site is around the corner and has a lot of great info on the desegregation of Central High.
Very informative. Our guide was Randy was very passionate.
It was pretty amazing, just reading and seeing everything that happened back then.
The tour guide was absolutely amazing! You can see the passion that she has while telling the story of the Little Rock Nine. I share this same passion and she brought me to tears a couple of times. Keep up the good work of spreading love instead of hatred. Amazing and emotional is how I would describe this. Thank you for the experience, I learned so much.
The park ranger on duty was awesome. She has a deep knowledge of the site and she shares it in a friendly and fun way.
I was amazed at how overwhelming, yet amazing, this tour was. A must do if you're in Little Rock!
It's not the school, it's a building with stories..
I took the free walking tour with Rebecca and she was great! Incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer all questions and break down a lot of history. The museum is definitely worth walking through, but would highly recommend the free tour as well. A humbling experience that everyone should make time for when passing through Little Rock.
Location of a defining moment in our nation's history, the first school in Little Rock to integrate its school and a move toward desegregation in the south.
What a fantastic museum! The exhibits were informative and it was very moving to look out at the high school as you listened to the students retelling their stories.
Great history in a small area (can only view exterior of school)
Very detailed and in depth information on the little rock 9, as well as other historical events. They are limiting capacity currently so there may be a wait during busy times. If you want to tour the school you need to schedule in advance.
Highly detailed and informattive displays. Very excellent flow to the information the way it's laid out. And they had multiple audio/video stations. And they had very nice and helpful park rangers there
What a amazing historic site. This is a great place to visit where you can learn about the past and what happened here. While learning how to treat others and why the legacy of the 9 is so important. A lesson we all need to learn. I think it it is one of the most important spots to visit in our country. My wife and I had a great time visiting and will bring back our five year old when he is a little older to learn more about the truth.
It was a great time. The park rangers where extremely helpful and the visit is very historical. To your the inside of the school you have to schedule a tour on a week day usually at 9am or 1pm. Tours are free and the museum is free as well. Lots of souvenirs and even a penny press is available inside.
Anything that has to do with our American History, is to me, priceless. I loved being able to walk up, and into Little Rock High School, following those same steps as those brave and determined students did all those years ago. I loved too, that we were able to walk through the hallways, beside the students who were in attendance that day and take a fairly indepth tour of the school, while not distracting students in their actual classrooms. The school was much larger than I expected it to be, especially when taking into account their huge athletic field behind the school, which I had never seen in pictures before. It was an extremely worthwhile, and fulfilling, visit that I would recommend to anyone interested in History, especially Black History.
Absolutely mind-boggling to think that it wasn’t long ago that schools were segregated.
The school is beautifully built and still in use today. The architecture alone is magnificent. The history behind this building adds to the feeling of reverence I felt when visiting.
The visitors center located across the street displays the history of the site and offers a wide variety of items for purchase.
Don't miss this place when you are in Arkansas! The visitor center is spacious and new, and the exhibition (a lot of texts, pictures, and videos) is very informative. When I visited, there was another exhibition about immigrants from Asia and their history. It was also very nice. You'll need at least 2.5 hours for all the exhibition and the tour.
The tour to the high school was also nice. It was very easy to schedule a tour. Took me 1 minute. Someone picked up the phone right away and the scheduling was done. (If you ever called any health care services, such as hospitals or primary care, you know what you'll be going through before actually talking to a real person, lol. I had been dealing with doctors and nurses right before calling to schedule a tour, so the speed and the easiness impressed me.)
My tour guide, a young NP service staff member whose name was Fabian (?), was extremely enthusiastic, polite, and friendly. I was very much impressed by his work (esp. considering that English was not his mother tongue -- but I had no trouble understanding him) and his eagerness to introduce the history to us.
I was speechless and thrilled when I was walking up the stairs outside the high school main building. An important chapter of history took place here!
This museum highlights great work in the continuous struggle for freedom and equality in our shared American Experiment.
The exhibits can we enjoyed from anywhere to 30 minutes to up to 2 hours.
Also there are several book titles available in the gift shop as well as National Park passports, stamps, t-shirts, postcards, etc.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. They're also clean restrooms which are easily accessible by the physically disabled.
Just across corner to the visitor center is Central High School which is still a functioning for year senior high school. If you wish to go on a tour it is an necessary to call ahead and or go online to sign up for the tours which are only available twice a day.
Across the street you can see the fully restored filling station which offered the public telephone which the media used at the time.
I'm so grateful to the National Park Service for this facility which offers education and reflection on difficult and painful journey our fellow Americans have beared and the good we have all benefited from despite powerful forces that desire to keep us mired in hatred, divided and suffering.
See you on the road,
📸 🙋♂️@gabrielcraft.me
Very informative! The tour was great and Brian was awesome !
Randy Dotson, our tour guide, grew up here and knows countless stories you Never heard on the news. What was on the news was what happened Outside the school. No reporters allowed Inside the school. So, under the cover of anonymity... the students Inside made it a living hell for the 9 students... All with the cover provided by the teachers, the administration, and even the Arkansas National Guard. The cost of the Tour is...Zero, so don't miss it! About an hour and a half.
You have to register in advance in order to get tickets for the tour.
Ranger Ruiz was an excellent tour guide. He communicated the history of the Little Rock Nine in a way that my middle school child and the elders in the group could appreciate. Watch both films in the museum if you can. Each is 20 minutes long. One was created in about 1964 and presents the Little Rock Nine's reflections on their experiences as high school students and their expectations for the future.
The second short film was inspiring because it showed connections between youth activism then and now. The clear contemporary link was necessary.
My kid liked being able to visit on a school day. Having students and teachers in the halls performing regular activities made it a living space for her, not just an historic place. My kid appreciated the interactive portions of the exhibit. Including the walking tour and 2 films, we were there for 2 hours, but we really could have stayed another 30 minutes.
So much better than I expected. Ranger led talk was fantastic. There are two videos (20 min each); one from 50 years ago and one fairly new. Worth taking time to see the displays in the visitor building. So much history I was not aware of, and some if what I thought was incorrect
Fantastic staff very helpful, and beautifully polite. An amazing learning opportunity. Growing up I learned about what happened here from high school history and PBS. Finally had the opportunity to drive 12 hours and visit.
This is a very interesting and worthwhile site to visit. The visitor center is well organized and contains excellent exhibits and a great bookstore. I have taken the tour by the Ranger twice now and would like to provide some feedback, only in the spirit of helping to improve the tour:
- The Ranger manages the attendee group extremely well - he adjusts and adapts the locations he takes the group to, depending on the size and make-up of the group.
- The content of his speech can be more "meaty". While he imparts excellent information, he can also include more stories surrounding the events and he can definitely refrain from repeating himself.
- The speech can be delivered and tailored to the audience a bit more. The Ranger can address adult / educated members of the audience with information presented to them in a more interesting way. It seems that his speech is tailored to elementary school aged attendees.
- The timing of the tour is great - not too long, not too short.
Thank you Little Rock, Arkansas, for the opportunity to visit this historic site.
Very small museum. Very informative on the history of Little Rock Central High School. You may read or listen to audio. Small walk to the high school for outdoor photos. Organized tour groups allow visitors into the school according to brochures but I didnt see any.
Compelling. Well laid out museum with excellent exhibits.
We did a tour of the high school with Ranger Randy, and wow were we impressed. He did an excellent job of laying out the historical context and assisting us all in imagining ourselves inside the story to think about the impact of what happened here. Taking that walk along the street, remembering the history, walking up those steps and through those doors was powerful! Little Rock Central is an important historical site, and I am very thankful that the National Park Service is able to teach this history while co-existing with the still operational high school.
The guide did a great job painting a fuller picture of the time and crisis of Little Rock central high school. The guided tour was 1 1/2 hours of education on the past racial crisis and how there are lingering affects still today. I’m glad we took our 5 white kids to get a small taste of what life was/is like for a black child. Let’s do our part and educate the next generation.
The park does an amazing job of telling the story of not only the events in Little Rock but also the whole Civil Rights movement and other movements to help marginalized groups. Did a tour of the outside of the school (it was closed the day we were there since it's an active high school still) with a ranger. The tour went into detail the events of that year in Little Rock and did an amazing job bringing history to life by pointing out (roughly) the spots where famous pictures were taken that day. They also managed to tell the story in a way to help my 2nd grader begin to understand some of the past in a way that wasn't too far above her level.
Unbelievable. Ranger Randy gave a remarkable tour. I had read about how moved people were taking this tour, and I was too. I am glad my children were with me. Definitely one of the most important historical stories everyone should know.
Such an authentic piece of Arkansas and Civil Rights history. Always nice to visit the museum across the street and learn about the courage of the Little Rock Nine, and the heroism of so many freedom fighters of the time. Not a huge museum but it's a great starting point and to walk across the street and see where it all took place just really takes you back to a different era and make you realize how much Liberty we truly have and should be thankful for today.
This historic site and display is a MUST SEE.
The history is felt immediately and the atmosphere is eerie in the most subtle of ways. You can smell the things that those students felt, just having to muster up the courage to get through & not retaliate in the most heartfelt way.
Wow!!!! So, we went to the visitor center for info....and we happened upon a tour from the Park Ranger. I wish I could remember her name.....my daughter and I learned soooooo much in that time. So much info that will never be published in a textbook. This was amazing!!!!!
The staff here are great, and I personally attend the high school here, although I think its best to go during the summer or a day when students aren't in school. This is mainly because the students will limit the places you can see in the school with classes in session and all. Nevertheless, the museum is set up very well and organized in a simplistic way.
Lovely place to visit. I wish they were open on Labor Day.
Fascinating part of history, that is still being used as high school today. Very informative self guided tour, also have park rangers to give history lesson and escort to (outside of) school. Really brought the time period into prospective.
You can walk the grounds of this historic and beautiful building. Make sure you go to the visitor center kitty corner from the high school
As an immigrant with no real knowledge of American history, it was an incredibly informative tour/crash course on the real facts of what happened at Little Rock. Would recommend to anyone that wants to more about the history of that high school and the area
Start the revolution. . Small visitor center and walk grounds of hs . The black guy ranger has cool voice and great stories and lunch recommendations. Encourage you to stand up to injustice.. little rock 9 statue at statehouse not here.. good if in town. Got the stamp..
The NPS visitor center/museum was super informative, and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable.
As a 70 year old white male from the rural north, I was never exposed to the things that I saw here today.
I came here to get my book stamped, and came away a much smarter man.
Thanks, Ranger David, for your intelligent discussion about the history of the area.
It is well worth your time go on the tour. You get a lot more information and get to walk where the Little Rock Nine walked. Our tour guide had direct experience with some of the Little Rock Nine and shared his personal experiences as a citizen of Little Rock.
This is a must-see in Little Rock! The museum in the Visitor's Center is very well done. There is a small exibit and a 22 minute film for visitors. The high school itself is across the street. You cannot go into the high school because it's still a functioning school, but you can walk around the grounds and take pictures. As a side note, the museum also does a wonderful job explaining the impact of the Little Rock Nine on modern social movements, over 60 years after the 1957 crisis. Your visit doesn't have to be long (~45 mins) but definitely make the time.
I love that this is a protected Monument. Even better, is Central High School is still cranking out some of the best educated students claiming public school status. In 2018, I wonder if attending is as hard today as it was for the Little Rock 9?
All we are saying.. is Give ☮️ a chance.🎵🎶🎹👏.
A beautiful set up to tell to about a time in history that was anything but. Very helpful guide who had no problem answering questions from the tour group. He was also very informed. He answered every question without hesitation and he was very informed. We learned things we didn't know thanks to this place. Amazed that something so beautiful came from such an ugly place.
Great for teaching my 7 year old history we've really talked about in depth but now she's seeing and also seeing others learn about it. Plus she earned a junior ranger pin and certificate
Did NOT disappoint! Great stop! Our ranger Noah was super informative and patient with my son who is on the autism spectrum. We a learned a ton and we're glad we stopped
Such a great visitor's center. I was really impressed by the displays and how honestly they portrayed the events that took place.
Great history lesson! Superb Ranger Tour Guide. He made our history lesson real & thought provoking. It shld mandatory for Every Arkansas Native. A Must Experience.
Really interesting place, wish there would have been a little more information, and maybe a theater for the video.
Takes about 30 minutes, walking over the high school is worth it because it is an amazing looking school.
Most beautiful high school. I took my daughter after she wrote a paper about Daisy Bates and the Little Rock Nine. It was so nice to the actual see the building, where it all happened. It's a must see in Little Rock.
Great architectural and royal building. Unfortunately the inside tours were closed due to covid-19. There is a visitor center across the street to visit too.
Was a great motivator to keep going forth in my education.
Guides tell a riveting story of what the Little Rock Nine faced just to be able to go to school. At the time I visited (Dec. 2016) it was hard to imagine days when overt acts of race-based hate and discrimination were considered acceptable. Unfortunately it seems that things have headed in the wrong direction since then.
Great Staff! Informative and knowledgeable about the real history and neat facts about what happened. A History lesson!
Determination - "Change agents".....shifted history to empower others
The Central High Visitor Center is very well put together with informative exhibits and a nice staff. If there is one place everyone should see in Arkansas, it is here. If you time it right you can see the school, which is massive.
A must see in Little Rock. A very important and historical site. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and my wife and I learned a lot.
I attended the rally to protest the actions of the commission that tried to Re-Segregate the Little Rock School system. The event was emotional seeing that all of the different ethnic groups represented stood in solidarity and with conviction shouted NO! to blatant Segregation.
Arkansas is a progressive state, not stagnant and definitely not REGRESSIVE. I was proud to stand with the other attendees and let my concerns be known. Saying it's time to end White Supremacy in that we ALL have an equal chance/opportunity to be validated.
Excellent place to learn the history of the Little Rock Nine and Central High. I learn something new every time I come here. We were just here for a book signing by Thelma Mothershed-Wair. It was an honor to meet her.
The National Park employees are so full great information, they really know the history.
Extremely interesting. Well done exhibit. Ranger presentation really put what happened to the 9 and 10th student into perspective. Also loved touring tjis amazing schoo
Went by on my first visit to LittleRock. The history of this place is so important to our country today. Never forget how hard it has been every one to have civil rights.
Very informative. I remember it happening when I was 15 and lived in Fla. Was really scared as a teenager.
The Little Rock Central High School Visitor Center is a great place to learn about the process of desegregation, and the hardships blacks and whites felt during that period from each other. The Little Rock Nine seem like a brave group that lead to the desegregation of our country!
Everything is so we'll organized. Anything you want or need to know about the struggles of the past is located here. Enlightening and sad at the same time. My heart is full of joy for what is. And perplexed by what was. Blessings are so real. TGBTG🙏🙌 GIFT SHOP IS INCREDIBLE👍👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 …
Ranger Randy gave a very in depth and engaging tour for my son's 6th grade class. He did a great job of trying to engage the students and was very informative.
One of the reasons my wife and I visited Little Rock and it did not disappoint, we had a brief guided tour which included entry to the school and it's assembly hall, we also walked a short part of the route that the some of the Little Rock Nine walked, our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic, listening to the history regarding the pupils who made an enormous impact on the civil rights movement of their era strengthened my admiration for all those involved, I would definitely recommend a visit
Outstanding interpretation of events that shape us all. Ranger Randy gave one of the best tours I have ever taken at a National Park.
This is probably the best museum I’ve been to! The information, tour, setup is all great. If you’re in LR, make sure you stop by! The more time you have to spare, the better!
Best tour ever. Way more information than I could ever imagine. The tour is emotional. Ranger Dotson was the best ask for his tour you will not be disappointed
This was a very nice place to visit. The history of this location is so moving. Our tour guide/ ranger did an amazing job of telling the story.
This is one of the most educational place in the United States. All of the data that collected is amazing. Everyone regardless of your race should visit. You will leave feeling quite different, than when you arrived.
A lot of history, would have like to take tour while the school was in. The visitor center across the street was very nice and has a good timeline of events.
Celebrating 25 years since graduating from this historic school. The museum is beautifully done. I enjoyed my trip to the Visitors Center/museum.
Everyone should learn about the sad story of what happened here.
Very nice visitor center. Important site everyone should visit.
thank you RANGER RANDY for everything you were able to put into words the bravery and knowledge into the tour.
Fascinating look at a hugely important time in our nation's history. Terrifically-run National Historic Site.
The visitor museum has great knowledge about the history of integration in schools. It shares the ugly side of the South's segregation it history. Must see for history buffs.
Bit of a bizarre place in that the school is still in use and tours must be reserved. They have a memorial garden as well. Funny that they have a call line for truancy in the area since the concept of this place was these students wanting so badly to attend.
Powerful history. Worthwhile stop if you are in town.
A place where every citizen should pay homage. The era of time in which this location represents, reflects the segration upheld in the past and allowed to exist in the present. Segration of the races... Is this the United States you want for your children. All I am saying is give ☮️ peace a chance.
Rangers were super nice and let us stay a little past closing since we got there late. Tons of information in the place and they have the Junior Ranger program.
This location does an expert job of transmitting the story of one of the pivotal moments in American history. The gravity of the place is reinforced by its location directly across from the school which sits in a residential neighborhood. An absolute must visit.
Great friendly ranger lovely tour got our stamps as always the NPS is wonderful
This 1927 building, proclaimed "the most beautiful high school in America," was the center of the national crisis when nine African-American children desegregated Little Rock's public schools in 1957. Little Rock Central High School was listed on the National Register on August 19, 1977, and designated a National Historic Landmark on May 20, 1982.
Great place to learn about the struggles that occurred due to segregation and how the process of desegregation happened. The staff was very friendly, but there are very few tours that occur each day so make note of that if you're trying to get in for a tour!
Very nice. Small museum from what I saw. The school is right across the street. If you are in Little Rock go visit!
Great pictures and videos! Nice tourist guide , really energetic.
It's an amazing sight full of history. It also looks just as it does in pictures.
A very interesting way to see a piece of American History. I recommend signing up for their tour. Our guide was outstanding.
The rich history of this campus is what led my family and I to purchase a house in the neighborhood and live for a decade. Definitely think this is worth a stop to see next time you are close!
Living history. Gently told. A nation painfully coming to be what it needs to be. Thank you National Park Service and may God continue to bless the Little Rock nine.
Such a powerful time in history. The high school is very well preserved and there are many a lot of plaques to help commemorate the time
Interesting historical site full of importance. Visitor center has great displays, water, restroom and helpful NPS staff to answer questions.
Great history. The rangers tell the story in great detail. The school is an active high school today. Sophomore students get the lesson.
Great museum. A must see.
Enjoyed this historical site
when in Little Rock, stop here - and go to the Visitor Center too
Very old school, Looks like a ivy school. Never got a chance to visit inside. But from outside it was majestic and inspiring
Can't see the school for tall trees.
Trees need trimming for a view.
Great staff 👍 …
Great exhibits that allow you to relive history as it was made. Beautiful National Parks office and courteous rangers.
Very interesting. Learned a lot more about the days surrounding the integration than I learned in school.
Very educational. Helped elucidate the little nuances surrounding the events of 1957 and the Little Rock 9.
Great interpretive center, doesn't overdo it but is also thorough in presentation. Learned a lot about this part of the Civil Rights movement here.
Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and knew so much. Definitely recommend taking a trip here.
Amazing experience! Second visit in 16 months... My mom, who was a teenager in the late 1950s,joined me for this second visit.
This is one of our favorite sites so far. The tour was fantastic. Make sure you make a reservation for the tour
It was awesome! We had Ranger Randy do our tour and he did a phenomenal job!
Informative, well organized, and very clean. The rangers were welcoming. We enjoyed experiencing the site.
The exhibits and historical information were really well displayed and very informative
Amazing museum about Little Rock Central High School and the Little Rock Nine. A must see for anyone interested in African American history! 👍🏻 …
Loved it! it's so educational, so inspiring hearing the true stories of these 9 courageous human beings that made a difference in history.
Fantastic tour
Worth the visit for everyone. You get a real sense of history, especially when doing the tour with the park ranger.
Interpretive center does a great job of detailing the events that happened here and the history of race and education inequality with the perfect amount of information.
The visitor's center is a must see tour for every American.
Definitely worth stopping buy. Exhibit was informative, and the staff was extremely friendly.
I am a huge Civil Rights history buff and really enjoyed visiting the high school.
It was cool to see such a historical site in person
Good national park. Wish we could have had a ranger les tour out in front of the school where it all took place
Cool place to visit to learn about past history and how it shaped today.
Amazing to see history in real life. The school's facade looks almost the same as pictures I've seen in books.
Great historical site
A well put together exhibit and a great stop to get another stamp in our national parks passbook!
Excellent. So much to experience. we were sorry to not have enough time to take the tour.
Wonderful guided tour of the high school by a very knowledgeable park ranger. Great history
Wish we had time to tour it. But, the outside looks amazing
Very cool historic place to visit never a high school like it ever.
Wow, so glad we stopped. I don't know how those students did it. But so thankful they were brave enough to.
Got more than expected from the tour. Our tour guide Mr. Fultz (?) did a great job!
On my way home I had a tire emergency. They were extremely helpful in getting me back on the road to make it home on time.
The place was amazing for me and my kids we came from St.louis well worth it
We had a very knowledgeable tour guide who informed us about the backdrop of what is now known as history!
Great experience!!
Such a beautiful preservation of such momentous events in history!
Great piece if history. The museum is really worth while.
The Little Rock Nine demonstrated how individual action compounds to create change as citizens motivate each other to become the change that is needed.
Very historical place. Lovely grounds, well manicured lawns and elegant tree shaded areas.
It's a great exhibit to learn about our history and what this country has been through.
Staff wasn't very friendly but the history presented was thought provoking.
Awesome learning experience, the information center has a wealth of knowledge to learn from about the history of the school.
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. We learned a lot about an event in history that we didn't know much about.
Very well done and detailed with photos and captions, audio stops, and an easy walk through the site.

Interesting
Disappointing
Absolutely worthwhile visit. Small but great display
The fundraising efforts of this Museum targeting billionaire football team owners with media attacks highlighting their picture collection is obivious. This place is just a slanderous political platform.
The gas station is so cool, I'm so glad they preserved it! Also, the park ranger was very friendly and helpful.
The history of this location represents such ugliness. We can stop there or move forward to the astonishing bravery it also represents. I choose the later.
It was great being where there is history
We went on a Sunday, so if there is a museum it was closed. Still enjoyed seeing where history was made
(Translation) I happened to know about the Little Rock incident, but I was able to learn about the situation a little before Martin Luther King.
High school is great!
