Reviews of Louisville Water Tower Park

A super long time ago, I had one of my school pieces performed at a poetry reading and that was really cool. The indoor venue is quaint but you have to appreciate the historic appearance and unique location. More recently I did some modelling pics and it is such an amazing spot for photos! The massive front field, white building, and even a little stone bench amidst trees make a very good cottagecore style location.

We aren't from around here so I didn't know what to expect. I just wanted to explore and take some pictures. We spent about 20 mins here and took some pics. Great place to visit if you enjoy history and some pretty neat architecture. I would recommend checking it out.

Historic water tower dating back to 1850s. Restored and opened as water museum. Authentically detailed restoration, historic landmark. See and learn how safe drinking water initiatives made Louisville a pioneer in public health since 1850.

Nice park with plenty of parking working water fountain just in case you need it. Another nice thing is electric outlets in the parking area; not sure why, but that could come in handy.
You will learn history about how they used to pump water for urban use, and how they do it today. You will also learn some pearls about water filtration and just how many people live and rely on the Ohio River.
This is a peaceful place to stop, even if the museum isn't open.

Such a nice spot beside the River. Sweet spot to jog and observe the boats as they come in and go out. A scavenger hunt booklet is available for those who enjoy that pastime. Take a tour when ypu have the op and can actually Slow Down and enjoy the sites/ history. Peace, Robbye!

Very interesting and historic place to see in Louisville. Fascinating to learn about the water process and see the buildings. Thanks to the Louisville Free Public Library for adding this place to the Cultural Pass this year.

This was a great stop. Interesting to see the historical building and the museum. A guided tour of the facility is included for the nominal museum entry fee. Louisville was a leader in water quality filtration and disinfection. I know this sounds geeky, but clean pure water is a necessity of life.

Had a great time flying my drone here

This is pretty cool looking! I've never seen a water tower that looks like this, though I did see a replica of this one at the Frazier History Museum. The paint job looks considerably worse for wear and there are figures around the -- parapet?? -- that weren't there when I visited. Maybe the whole thing is getting rehabbed. It was set up for a wedding when I stopped by so I'm guessing they hold lots of events here.

Wonderful museum and a perfect venue for all kinds of events.

Great little stop right off the highway! lots of history

Beautifully scenic views of the Ohio River, and the old watershed.

Good, quick tour for a couple bucks. Info on the history of Louisville water, the Ohio river, and a self guided museum timline with artifacts.
Kyle Cyr
Very beautiful historic landmark.
Darren Carter
Tower is under construction so the entire facility is fenced off. Only parking lots and grass areas are accessible.

A quiet alternative to Waterfront Park, Water Tower Park is just down the river a bit. Sure, there aren’t the sweeping views of the bridges. But there are still some very pretty views. There’s a museum and free PureTap fountains. A large grassy area for picnics or flying kites or just watching the sunset.

I have no idea the attraction, but cool stop
Linda Roe
Beautiful and unique architecture. Always enjoy the activities in and around the water tower.

I loved how Louisville Water's original water tower is throwing serious shade to all those modern whack coutryside storage tanks.

"Thats not a tower THIS is a tower!"
Bradley Woods
Beautiful location for indoor and outdoor events. I have helped coordinate many events here and the staff are a pleasure.

We took the group tour for groups 10 or more. We really enjoyed it. The architecture and history behind Louisville's water distribution system is fascinating. The kids learned a lot about water filtration and the docents were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The " Quiet Giant" is worth the tour alone.

This place may be nice to visit, I went during the pandemic so it is not currently open to the public. However, the grounds are beautifully maintained, and there is a great view of the Ohio River. This would be a lovely place for a couple to come and have a quite old fashioned picnic. The reason I say old fashioned is there are no facilities open to the public. You just have an easily accessible open lawn with a wonderful view. What more do you really need.

The Louisville Water Tower, located east of downtown Louisville, Kentucky near the riverfront, is the oldest ornamental water tower in the world, having been built before the more famous Chicago Water Tower.[2] Both the actual water tower and its pumping station are a designated National Historic Landmark for their architecture. As with the Fairmount Water Works of Philadelphia (designed 1812, built 1819–22), the industrial nature of its pumping station was disguised in the form of a Roman temple complex.

The museum was closed when I was there but certainly an interesting peace of history built on 1857-1860 used to pump 12 million gallons of water in just 24 hours for the city of Louisville KY I’m pretty sure back in those days in was a very impressive accomplishment to be able to do this.
Lots of parking on site the area has a nice park as well just of the interstate.

Awesome historical site near the Ohio River. Opportunity to review the historical marker and to see a rowing team, catamaran, barge on the river, and an engineer maintaining the Water Tower equipment. Oh, there are places to jog and walk as well. 💙 …

Beautiful historical find near the Ohio River: On the Kentucky side. (-: Recon for travels with others... near and dear to my heart. Barge, rowing team, and a catamaran all seen during my brief visit. The weather was adorable as well.

It's very nice place

Not very wheelchair accessible or double stroller friendly during the tour of the tower itself, due to the design of the building but the museum has slightly more wiggle room. Aside from that, it has a very hands on exhibit for children and I found it to be rich in culture and made me feel even more proud out Louisville and it's history. Also, the Water Tower can be used as a wedding venue.
Paul Jeffers
Seen 'em in Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Louis, and now Louisville. Haven't seen one like this in the Greek/Roman style. Usually they're more Gothic. Pretty cool if you understand what they're for.
Sara Turley
This museum is small and is mostly for those who are old enough to read very well. My kids 7,4 and 1 obviously did not enjoy this as much because there is not a lot to do for their level of learning. My 9 year old could read and understand and found some things interesting. The tour guide was great, very friendly and interesting, however this was definitely not something for all ages. The teens and adults seemed to enjoy the tour in my group and I learned a lot as well but the info seemed to be over the heads of my group. The tour takes you to several different locations on the property and is about 30-40 minutes long, which is great, just meant for students and adults 10+

We visited the area many times, but only recently went inside and paid the very low price of $5 for a guided tour.
The guides were well versed on the site and enthusiastically conducted the guided tour - best $5 spent in a long time.
Highly recommend all locals and visitors take the tour.

This is a beautiful part of Louisville, the huge yards in front of the water tower are great for picnics. They occasionally have live shows here and it's a super place for them. They also have a museum and tours, which are fun. This is an overall a very nice place to visit.
Patrick Wright
Great history on how the water works was started in Louisville KY. The museum was interesting and fun. Make sure to take the tour.
Jake Allgeier
Undergoing some restoration currently, but am excited to see it when finished. Also some great views of the Ohio River.

In addition to being a wondeful place, it's a nice low traffic park. Not many people know of it or bother driving to it, so it's never busy at all. If you're still social distancing, come here and reflect on pre pandemic music at the water tower ;)
Jody Christenson
We did not go inside but plan to next time . We were on the grounds. We saw tug boats and a barge. Got great pictuers. Worth the visit.

This place is neat and has some cool history about Louisville's water and how it's the best in the world! Not a lot to it though, it's just a quick visit for some history!

Situated on the river, there are beautiful views. The tower itself is old and historic. Many events are held here also, receptions, galas, art shows, etc.
