Reviews of Indianapolis Zoo
Ashley Faver
We love the zoo! Our youngest kids hadn’t got to go so we decided to go spend the day yesterday and we had a great time! The only part that wasn’t so great was the forest, the only animals out were the birds. We know it was probably due to the new exhibit coming so no big deal. We will still be back! It was completely packed but we still got through in good time! Our kids loved the monkey and the elephants! We got to see all our favorite animals and everyone really enjoyed it! It’s worth the money you spend to have the fun with the family!
Mabel
Nice. Not overwhelming huge..but big enough...about 3 to 4 hours to see everything....
Lots of parking...and handicap spaces..
Lots of helpful friendly employees.
Loved the dolphin show..
And a demonstration of macaws..beautiful birds..
Lots of big animals...elephants, giraffe, zebra, tiger, lion, cheetah...
Variety of colorful birds...and reptiles..
Very nicely laid out..use a map....lots of restrooms...very clean and maintained..
Several choices of getting something to eat or drink stands..and outdoor tables with umbrellas..some inside eating too.
Not included in your entrance price..is a mini roller coaster.
A gondola ride over the orangutan outdoor enclosure...also fantastic view of the city skyline..its quite a high ride..but goes slowly.
And a train around the zoo...(my opinion...i wouldn't waste my extra $$ to to ride it...just went by the back lot..zoo maintenance..weeds....didn't see any animals..just a train ride)
And a carousel for the kids..
Overall..quite an enjoyable day..
And gift shop..

One of my favorite zoos I’ve been too. Definitely try and time it for an animal showing, SOOO worth it! The trainers are experts with their species and the show is phenomenal and short enough that you won’t get bored or tired. The exhibits are spacious and considerate for each species, try and time it for an overcast day so the animals are more active. Definitely bring water or money for a vending machine. The bird rooms are also one of the best stops, for sure check it out after you stop to feed the giraffes! Lots of interactive opportunities and a great variety of species. Definitely worth the drive from Purdue!

I really loved my day that I spent here. They did very well with handling the interactions and also respecting the animals as well. Most of the enclosures had happy active animals, the only one I thought was questionable was the lions enclosure.
Greatly enjoyed the dolphin meet and greet, feeding the flamingos/giraffes and taking the sky track ride around the orangutans exhibit.
Definitely worth the trip from Kentucky.

Lots to do in such a little space. If you don't do rides or shows you could walk the entire zoo in two hours. We loved seeing the elephants and how well kept they were. The Safari area was cool and the animals looked like they had plenty of room. The budgie cage was great to have all those birds free flying around. The orangutans look like they would be fun to watch if you get then at the right moment. Plan your path around the dolphin show and make sure to get there 10 minutes early. They do close the doors 5 minutes before show time. All in all it was a good zoo and one that doesn't take all day.

A very nice zoo. Not the biggest or smallest. A nice day trip with children. There was a lot of construction, so it will be interesting to see what all is done there over the next couple years. The animal exhibits seem to be tastefully done and in a way to make it more natural for the animals. There is something for everyone.

Everything was clean and not very crowded. Animals were all really active and looked healthy! No concession places were open, but maybe that’s because it was during the week? Overall a fun experience for the family! Tip: Get the zoo pass! It covers parking and admission + guests!

We went for mother's day and it was fantastic! A little busy, especially in the aquatic area, but the Indy Zoo had beautiful animals, and the whole zoo is generally clean. I do wish the bathrooms were a little bit cleaner and that there was more than 1 family restroom. More than anything, I'd ask for mobile ordering from the cafes.
They do an incredible job with the animals though. A good amount of chats and activities, but not too many for the animals themselves. The elephant experience is absolutely incredible... Go for the chat, and get in line quick enough to feel the elephant for a moment. Truly beautiful creatures. I spoke with the caretakers and they care for the animals more than anything. Well worth the membership.

Very nice place to spend the day or just a couple hours. Lots to see.. I was truly impressed with the size of the zoo. The dolphin show was really nice!! Buy your tickets online to save a little money and purchase your parking pass too to speed-up the process at the entrance.

Had another fun day at the Indianapolis Zoo! We got there early as all the creatures were actively feeding and moving around. Early parking is a breeze as well. The zoo is a decked out in a Halloween scheme! You're able to interact with the kangaroos in their enclosure and hopefully be able to pet them if they get on the walkway. Time well spent. Kids love it!
Terri Carrico
Animals were very active when we visited. You may not want to visit on a Friday during the school year, because there were a lot of school groups there. I would skip paying $4 to feed a giraffe a baby carrot stick. You cannot pet the giraffes or linger because they are in a hurry to get people in and out. The bird exhibits were great...very friendly and playful! One suggestion for the zoo, put up directional signs. You have to rely on the map or the app.
Chuck Benslay
We had a great time at the Zoo yesterday. It was our granddaughters first visit. Even though it was in the 80's several animals were active. There's a mixture of indoor and outdoor attractions to choose from. So, you can cool off often!

My first year attending Christmas at the Zoo and was so glad I went! It was a chilly night, but they had these amazing fire pits set throughout the zoo. The lights were beautiful (pics definitely don't do it justice)! Obviously several of the animals were not out, or couldn't be seen since it was dark, but it was still fun walking through the exhibits since they were all lit up. The train ride was chilly, and not super impressive (was hoping to see more lights) but worth the $4 for a short cruise. I highly recommend adults visit the Tinsel Tavern for the 'Shmallo Hot Chocolate...had to get a refill halfway through. Delicious! A bit expensive, but they put enough alcohol in, and you keep the souvenir cup. Barn with Santa's reindeer, and the little village was super cute! Sea lions were active and showing off, and the underwater dolphin viewing area did not disappoint. What a great experience!
Andrew Jones
I was really impressed with this too. It's big and animals have a lot of space to move around. I loved the big dolphin area where you can walk in a dome under the water and watch them swim around. That was really awesome. The rest of the animals were hiding because it was really raining (as you can see from the photos) but this is probably a great zoo if the weather is clear.
Elaine A.
What a great zoo! My partner and I were traveling through Indianapolis and decided make this a destination so that we could stretch our legs.
Parking was super fast and easy and finding our way around the zoo was a breeze. I was a little sad that a few of the rides weren't up and running, but it wasn't too bad since I still got to see all of the amazing animals!
I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely recommend it to others!
K_ram1500
Buy the membership. My daughter loves going every chance we get free time. We've probably went enough times that it would cost us over $1,000 to pay for tickets. Definitely a money saver. Keep in mind prices of food and toys go back to help take care of their animals
Lyana & Carissa
Not a ton to see this time of year but we wanted to go for the aquarium anyway, so it was perfect for what we wanted. The shark and sting ray “petting” are was so cool but dirty. The kids really got a kick out of it. They loved the penguins too, especially the area where they got to watch the penguins swim under them!
Sidonia Martin
Most animals we saw, but not all as there was a lot to see. Its worth going to the dolphin show. My 11 year old son needed to use a wheelchair so it was a workout pushing him around as many ramps seem sorta steep and he struggled with self propelling himself. Get a motorized wheelchair if able. Bring your own snacks and drinks in to save money. We hope to go back when they get the kangaroo exhibit open
Alicia Lea
Such a great time for children and parents alike! Although we did have to walk a half a mile or more to get to the zoo because we had to park in the extra parking area it was still Alot of fun. We did go on a holiday weekend so it was super packed but it was still a lot of fun and definitely worth it. Actually got to see a lot of the animals moving instead of just laying there but there were also Alot of animals we didn’t get to see. We rode the train which might have been all of our favorite thing.
Ashlie Murray
The new kangaroo exhibit was amazing. It made it seem like you were in Australia with them! The park as a whole was clean and the crowds were very tolerable. The kids loved seeing all the cool animals, especially the tiger and elephants.
Christy Panchot
Our family enjoyed our visit. I would have given a 5 star review but the prices for food and beverages were outrageous. Families can not afford...Also face painting cost is
ridiculously priced from $16 to $21:(
Donna Bradford
Great Zoo. Visited on a warm day, but it was still nice. Grounds are clean and the zoo itself is rather large. There is certainly something for everyone to enjoy. Some animals were resting, but that’s to be expected. I would definitely come back.
Melanie H
First time going during a weekday and let me just say I was not expecting it to be so busy! There appeared to be a ton of kids on field trips but they left around 1230ish. The animal chats and feeds weren't open yet and the macaws don't start flying over for another few weeks but we still absolutely love our zoo! Will plan to go back on a weekday in the summer when it's not as crazy busy.
Kaysi Kaczkowski
Wonderful place and amazing orangutan exhibit. They could walk on tight ropes above the zoo! And the wild tropical birds that flew overhead at the zoo felt so freeing. We usually do membership due to the size of our family but lowest
Cat Woman
I left a review a few minutes ago and wanted to share more pics, just didn't remember which folder they were in. So here they are.
And I forgot you get to actually touch the sharks. That's a pretty amazing feeling. They swim past and if you're quick enough you can let your hand run across their back as they go by.

My family of 4 took a small vacation to Indy and the zoo was on our must visit list because of the dolphins. I felt the price of the zoo was a little pricey but was willing to pay it because it was an experience for my kids. My 7 year old was super excited about the dolphins. I order tickets and parking online previously before going. We had tickets but still had to wait in a line for about 10 minutes to get in.
They take your picture upon entry which I was excited about because it's rare to get a photo with my husband and I together with our kids when we go places- the girl ended up taking 3 different pictures. On the way out of checked the price and it was $31 for the picture. I was willing to pay $10 but I feel $31 is extremely over priced.
We began our adventure but apparently we started wrong because we were half way thru and found that we were coming up to the exit doors on exhibits before the entry doors. So if you go start at the Oceans exhibit first.
Some of their exhibits were closed like the walrus, bald eagle, most of the animal chats were not going on, and the race a cheetah was out of service. They were doing a lot of construction throughout the whole zoo. Also, my husband and I noticed a lot of the water pits in the animals exhibits were bone dry.
We did enjoy the train however that was an extra $4 per person except for my 1 year old because she was free. They have other rides and activities too but those are extra $4 or you can buy a pass for all those things.
My 7 year old also has developed a hobby of collecting pressed pennies. Their penny presses take change but no one was willing to give us change- said they didn't have coins or weren't allowed to. So when we went to buy a soft drink we noticed it was highly priced at a $2.50 for a can of soda (which by the way the don't have bottles only cans) and $4.50 for a fountain drink. There were far more restaurants than expected and I felt it was hard to come across a restroom.
The dolphin show was a family favorite! My son loved it! There was plenty of seating, all seats seemed to be a good viewing area, and there was good crowd participation. Their touch a shark tank was nice as well.
Sai Petluru
Some of the exhibits are very good. Few are below par. You gotta pay for every ride and feed inside again after buying the entry ticket which I found expensive. Food in the cafeteria is priced ok but the taste and quality is very poor. Overall a decent experience and a must for toddlers and kids.
Rachel Goldberg
The Indianapolis Zoo is honestly so great. They do an amazing job with the animals and exhibits, and they do a lot of really important conservation work and education. My sister and I have started visiting at least a few times a year when we can, and it's definitely worth a membership if you have kids.
Stacey Gibbs
This zoo is great! Everytime I've been here I've enjoyed it. Lots of things to see, hear, and watch. Makes for a great outside activity for anyone. The staff was extremely friendly.
Dave Harlan
Great zoo! One of the nicest I’ve ever seen.
They lost a star for being expensive and a little grasping. Admission was $180 fo six people, plus $10 for parking. That was rough, but what really hurt was that an additional $4 ticket was required for most of the activities. On top of that, you can’t see all the activities from the ticket booth and the information isn’t well displayed. I wound up buying tickets and finding the attractions we wanted were closed or on break.
Alyssa Morgan
Personally, this is the best zoo I have been to. I would say the St. Louis zoo comes close. We came in December and the lights were so beautiful. Spent the entire day here, can’t wait to make it here again.
Punit Omar
This place has too much to absorbe in one day. Ticket is super highly expensive (about $35 to $40 per person), so think of seeing all galleries. This place is full of positive motivation, craft, art, creativity, history, super heros, fun, enjoyment for all age groups. This is indeed fun for everyone. Ticket is expensive, but to compliment to that, they do offer free multi floor parking. You'll surely enjoy your trip here with all your loved ones and family.
Sabrina Wright
Loved our trip to the zoo!!! So much to see. We got the full package, so we were able to feed the animals, and ride the rides. Aside from it being 95 degrees, and some of the animals weren't out for view (which was understandable)it was amazing. My favorite part was the stingray/shark exhibit. The kids loved watching them, and being able to touch them. Great experience!!!!
Ryan Owen
Overall, it's a nice place. Food and drink is overpriced, like most places. Entry fee is a bit ridiculous as well, but I understand they have employees to pay, animals to care for and all that. Kids always enjoy it. Unfortunately, the butterfly garden wasn't open because of construction going on. We also went at a time where there wasn't any feedings going on. It was still a fun time.
Katrina Stone
We took a weekend trip to Indianapolis and planned to see the zoo. I'm very glad that we did. This was our first zoo trip since Covid started. There was a lot to see and the animals were active and many times entertaining, especially the orangutans. My family loved to see the dolphin show. It was a beautiful day, the staff was helpful, and though it was crowded there was enough space to view animals without a pile up. . The only crowded area for us was the dolphins show and inside the oceans building. We also went early on a Sunday morning. When we were leaving the lot was more full. We'll have to return again when everything is open and running. Great place for a family outing.
Roberto Sabas
Wonderful zoo, even in the cold of winter. We visited here on MLK Day 2022 and parking was ample. Even though the African safari side was closed for the season, there was plenty to see, including the Oceans building and the Orangutan center, where we saw the apes come close to the glass to interact with their admirers. We were charmed by the orangutans, the penguins, and the macaws.
Ozzie Ortega
My wife is out here for work. We came from California. So, I needed to keep myself busy for a few hours. I decided on the Zoo today. I was a bit disappointed. Many exhibits were closed. I Was REALLY Excited to see the American Bald Eagle , But No Eagle in the Exibit. Although I did make the best of it. Ladies at the Gift shop were very helpful and great customer service.
Logan Ingalls
This is definitely a place to explore get some exercise through walking and just see the excitement of your kids! We plan to come here once a week with our season passes! This place lets you get pretty close to the animals!
Amber Presslor
New kangaroo exhibit is great! You get to be in the cage with them! Love feeding the birds! It's so great! One ate my braid then whole time. Was so funny.
James McClellan
We visited on a Thursday morning. Parking was 10.00. Not many visitors there all day. Nice animal exhibits, but the walrus, bald eagle and merecats were off exhibit. A few paths were closed for upgrades in the zoo. So less exhibits. But still good. The kangaroo petting was a joke. No admission fee on that one,but all the roos were juvenile tiny ones.most were sleeping. The dolphin show was a total waste of time. Mostly watch a big screen. The dolphins do a few tricks. Kinda lame. The train ride costs 4.00 each. It just takes you around the maintenence part of the zoo. No animals to look at. They only kept 3 monkeys together in each exhibit. There used to be many. Items at the gift shop did not have prices on any of them. Food was expensive and cold. Pretzels sucked. They forgot cheese on the tenderloin, So they just put a slice on a napkin.. really?? Bring your own water. It's 4.00 a bottle. Restrooms were ok. Staff were friendly and informative. There's a few small rides for kids. A zoo carousel. Small roller coaster. The skytrack looked neat. It's on an elevated rail approx 45 feet high, that takes you around the zoo slow. All cost 4.00 per ticket. They do give military veterans 2.00 off entry ticket for up to 4 people. Vets n families get in free on memorial day and veterans day. Only reason it's 4 stars instead of 1 is because we had a blast!! No crowd at all, great weather too. Good luck getting to and from the zoo however.. lots of construction and heavy traffic. Make SURE you have a good navigation plan.. Zoo was clean. We spent 6 hours at the zoo, but it usually takes 3 to 4 hours for most visitors. It's good to see them so heavily involved in conservation of wildlife through many opportunities in which anyone can donate any amount. A special thanks to ALL volunteers at the zoo who donate their time and efforts. Also, there's a shark and stingray exhibit where you can pet them as they swim by. They're kinda small. They feel.. Well, you can try it. There's small restroom like hand dryers around the Shark pool to dry your hands. There's instructions and a staff member there to assist. All in all it was a great time.,, Eventhough there's many matters that the higher up need to get squared away.
Bekah D
We love the Indianapolis Zoo! Tips: wear comfortable shoes because it's a lot of walking. The train really doesn't see any animals (just the backs of buildings) but it's fun for the kids. If you're going more than once in a year, the membership is worth it!
Sayani Chatterjee
Outstanding ! I love this , i mean we all love this place , very nice decorated ! Huge space ! Big place…. I m amazed ! We went from chicago so it’s amazing experience seriously. Again we mast go ! Corey Donovan
I've been going to the zoo since I was a young kid. It's always been a great time and now I enjoy taking my son. I highly recommend going and spending the day. The season pass is good if you live in town and want to stop by to keep the kids busy.
Aaron Kurneta
Great zoo ! Well designed, clean, with a decent but not overwhelming selection of animals. Seemed better than my hometown Phoenix zoo.
It could have used a bit more information placards for some exhibits, but otherwise a very good experience.
A & M Hardaway
The Indy Zoo is a great and beautiful zoo. The dolphin show is good and row only about 20 minutes long.
The only down side to this zoo is the field trips. The children were very disrespectful to zoo property (dropping trash, tipping over furniture, knocking over signs),disrespectful to employees (they were rude by cutting in lines at refreshment stands in front of other guests as well as making messes in the restrooms, and the animals (hitting the stingrays in the pool). Our visit on May 11th was completely ruined by the final behavior of the visiting schools.
Billy Chi
Absolutely amazing! The dolphins as well as all the other animals are amazing. The commons good court was packed and was lucky to get a seat. Be ready to walk. All in all totally recommend for families
true
Very hot day but good experience
I came too late at 5pm and they close at 7pm. Last slot for shows are at 4pm and skyline closed at 3pm
Didn’t see the cheetah. I hope I could feed and get close to the giraffe
Kangaroo feels soft. The tiger is cool
Brooke Lewis
We love the zoo! Lots of interesting animals to see and lots of indoor/outdoor options. We usually go inside the oceans exhibit first then head straight to the Plains exhibit and work our way back. The food is not great so bring your own food and lots of water, and a stroller for kids is a must since the walk is long. The dolphins really like it when you’re quiet and will say hi. If you put your ear to the glass you can hear them talking to you. The seals like shiny things and will follow your hand if you put a quarter against the glass. Weekends and holidays gets too busy so we always go on an off day.
james cree
Very fun for all children to see. We didn’t get to see some animals during winter times because it is too cold for them. Also if it is too hot some animals stay in caves to avoid the heat from the sun.
Gale Everest
Excellent zoo, animals look well cared for, a bit expensive, but worth it. My only criticism is that the cheetahs need a bigger enclosure. And they need more efficient food service areas. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to get a sandwich, that never came, and cost $15.00.
Jim Lahr
Went last night for the Christmas at the Zoo light exhibit. It was very nice, lots of lights. They have live reindeer, Santa's village where you can visit Santa Claus. There are a half a dozen fire pit/warming stations throughout the experience. They also have a s'mores making station where you can cook them over open fires. They provide all the ingredients and the roasting sticks. A fun experience for the whole family. They also have adult beverages and hot toddies for sale.
Amber mattingly
We went with my sons school. We moved out of Indiana 5 years ago. So going back we saw a lot of new Exhibit. Very nice to see the updated areas. They are also underway of a few new exhibits for later this year (2022) and early 2023. Will Definitely go back. Also my son plays Pokémon go and said there are lot of spins.
Marleigh Burris
We had a great time watching the dolphin show, touching sharks, and seeing all the animals. It was clean, welcoming staff, and a great time. Only downfall was that they don't qualify for the AZA discount like most zoos so it does get VERY pricey quickly!
Rachel Newquist
Nice zoo. Was able to see it all in a couple of hours without doing any of the extras. Parking can be difficult, and if full you have to go offsite and shuttle which adds about 15min each way, too far and unsafe to walk.
Peter Woon
We've had grandparent passes for the past year. It was great to bring the kids here one at a time. Get there early and head to the plains at the fast west end of the zoo. All the animals will be happy to see you!
Ryan Doty
Great environment, plenty of animals to see. It's best to get there when they open, all animals are active and eating then.
They are totally wheel chair friendly. And they have power wheel chairs for rental
Courtney Carpenter
Lovely zoo! Very clean with lots to do and see! ZooBoo was especially fun, even for adults. The tiger cubs are adorable!
Sarah Thomson
This is the closest I have ever been to animals at the zoo. The kangaroos just hop around. You can feed the giraffes. You can touch stingrays and sharks. One of the best experiences my kids have ever had!
crystal goodwin
Christmas at the zoo is always beautiful. Some of the lights were not working properly but the photo op areas were creative and fun. If you are a Indiana resident I recommend the season pass. The pass pays for itself in just a couple visits.
Jolie Li
It was our first time at Indianapolis Zoo and we all enjoyed it much. Couple things I want to share with you for future reference, in case you had the same question I did.
Total Adventure Package
My husband and I went with our 2 little one, one 1.5 year old and one 2.5 year old. We know we would only need 3 admission tickets, the 1.5 year old doesn't need it. I also wanted to buy Total Adventure Package for us for unlimited feeding and ride, but I wasn't sure about how many I should get. We found out at the zoo that we only need 3 for it too, the1.5 yo doesn't need it (less than 2)
Is it worthed it?
We arrived at 9:15, all the ride don't open til 11 o'lock. We walked around the zoo by the time we get to Sky Line ride, it was long line waiting. When we got there, we were at the end of the line which had the sign saying 30min waiting from here. Turned out it was an hour, the line moved so slow. I was planning to go home after that ride, thinking such a waste of buying TAP. Ended up my 2.5 yo wanted to stay so we did. We ended up go on carousel twice (no line), feed bird twice (no line the kids loved it), train ride (long line too but the line move very fast). If we were to go home after Sky Line then TAP was not worth it but I'm glad we did a few more activities which the kids totally enjoyed it so much.
Entrance Tickets
They do have discounted ticket for certain organizations such as AAA, veterans..etc .. (look it up before u come), u must purchase those tickets in advance online because they will not do that at the gate. For example, we bought discounted tickets online for admission ($18 instead of $29), parking ($9 instead of $10 if pay at site) and even TAP ($15 instead of $17).. however, I only bought 2 TAP tickets for my husband and I since I wasn't sure about the kids.... When I got to the zoo, the staff told me there is no such thing as discounted tickets for TAP except for zoo members, I paid full price for that one. Just so u know,
even the staff wasn't awared that we could do that.
Overall,
The feeding flamingo at 10am is a must, my kids love seeing them up lose and having the flamingo picked their hair. The elephant bath at 11am was also interesting to see up close. I wanted to feed the giraffe at 11 too but after watching elephant, by the time we got there it was really long line and the kids was hungry so we skipped it. Feeding the birds was also a hit for my kids. The train ride could use more scenery.
Even though Indianapolis zoo wasn't as big as the one in Houston where we live, but to me it was more fun because we see many animals up close even in a cage, and more interactive with them. We will definitely be back if we have a chance
Melinda Schuitema
It was a beautiful day to visit the Zoo, they are adding a lot and I think it was opening weekend so some animals are off display, and food vendors not open yet. It was packed! The line to enter as we were leaving was over a mile long. (They must have hit capacity). Standard zoo practice, parking additional fee when entering. I was disappointed they didnt participate in the AZA reciprocal program. Also the Dolphin show was really disappointing. Not much show but more of a video of how not to use single use plastics. Kids were really disappointed in that. (Also other audience members around us voiced the same.)
Michael R
The show is amazing. I highly recommend going to see the show. I go with my family to see the dog show every time we go. The dog are beautiful and extremely well trained. The trainers are amazing also. the love and passion they have of the dogs show every time they perform.
Goober Goo
The Indy zoo has the key animals you expect to see at a zoo. The animal enclosures are large and well kept. The design is compact, so you don't feel like you are walking all over the place trying to get to the next animal.
MIMI B
Love the zoo! It has a lot of great exhibits and shows. However, they only have one food court open right now which causes alot of traffic.
T Shep
The zoo is a great place to bring the kids and I'm thankful its here. But today half of the exhibits were either empty or under construction. Just not worth the $50 bucks plus. Perhaps another day.
sarah young
Vegan and vegetarian friendly mostly at Crossing Cafe! Oil for French fries are only used for the fries.
Cute zoo! Highly recommend the TAP package. You can feed the birds without any limits (multiple times). Giraffes and flamingos feedings are at set times but you can go in line again. ALL feedings are included in the TAP package.
valerie vance
Wonderful time at Christmas at the zoo! So many beautiful lights and things to do. Can't wait to go back next year.
Joseph Woodruff
Was crowded when I went. But it was fun. Imo parents need to be more careful with their kids. But that's just my opinion. Otherwise. It was fun.
Rebecca Hamilton
We always have fun at the zoo. Getting a zoo membership is the best way its economical and provides discounts in the zoo. The zoo has new exhibits and activities. It is fun anytime of the year. It is small enough to do in one day without too much walking for younger kids. I have taken my kids there for 15 years and the still enjoy it!
May Smith
I made it my mission to visit all the zoos I can, and I was expecting more from this one overall. The ocean exhibit with a touch pool was a super amazing surprise, but the zoo layout was really small and concrete when compared to other zoos with beautiful paths and natural exhibits. Obviously this isn't something easily changed, and it certainly offered a lot to look at overall. It's always worth a visit to a zoo, anyway!
Kaelyn Mays
This zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) but does not participate in AZA Reciprocal Admissions Program. So I paid a lot more for admission than I am accustomed to.
There are several animals off exhibit and sections are closed.
Still, the kids had a good time and I got my exercise in. I'd never seen a red panda before, and the kangaroo crossing is up close and personal, so that was pretty cool.

Nice zoo, great habitats. The orangutan habitat is especially well done. The Halloween decorations were very cute too.
J Fred
Wednesday was a good day to go because it wasn't busy. TAD passed is with it because feeding the animals and rides are $4. We fed animals 4 times and did more than 2 rides per person.
Christine Gamble
I'm from the fort area, so our children's zoo is hard to beat. I really enjoyed the Indy Zoo. The information on each exhibit was very educational. They have more animals than Ft Wayne, less land, but Indy utilized the land very well. I love the orangutans, giraffes and elephants. The Halloween decorations were fantastic.
Jason Ho
I have been travelled more than 30 countries, this is the BEST Zoo I ever visited.
Professional, knowledgeable, clean, friendly.
Just can not believe we spent more than 6 hours inside with 90 degree.
All family love it so much !
Thank you!!
katy geffert
Lots of closed refreshment stations, kiosks, and “unique experiences” throughout the park, otherwise a very nice trip. Petting the kangaroos and sharks/stingrays was a family favorite! The train ride was very disappointing, it just goes around the perimeter of the zoo and we could not see animals while on it due to overgrown foliage and being behind buildings.
Theatrice Thompson
Amazing experience!!! The only downside was not being able to ride any rides....the weather surprised us! Plan on at least 3 hours to get around and see all the vibrant animals, chats, feeds, and shows.
Itxamara Lozano
Not big but its cute. The day I went was packed so I guess that has a lot to do with my review but some áreas were closed and the bathroom were not the most clean.
However they had beautiful decorations for halloween and my son loved it!
Darien Strawbridge
The zoo was neat and everything but most places were closed. The rollercoaster, train, and some exhibits we're all closed the entire 4 hours we were there. After paying $50 for parking and admission plus $50 in gas I'd liked to have spent my money elsewhere than disappoint my son with the train being closed. The cheetah race was closed as well. No one communicates if or when these areas will reopen. Very frustrating. They also need more bathrooms. The employees were all very kind and helpful and we liked the dolphin show but I will be going to the zoo in Chicago instead next time which is also free.
Elise Oblander
Highly impressed!!! Most zoos have closed exhibits- not this zoo! Every animal was out and seemed happy! The bears were awe Inspiring they were so close. The tigers did this throat singing chant and you could literally feel the reverb from the power of their roars. The dolphin show was wonderful and again, the animals seemed well cared for and happy. Highly recommend this zoo!!!
Alex R
Got to see tiger cubs! So adorable!!! My favorites were the tigers, lions, and bears! Also rode the small roller coaster. It's short but made me laugh! So it's win! Rode the skyline as well. It doesn't show the zoo but you get a cool view of the city.
Vanessa Wan
I love the aquarium... The dolphin show was okay. Parking is $10 , I wish it is a little cheaper. Almost $40 for a 2-3 hours experience.
LT Rogers
Definitely spring for the Total Access Pass it was well worth it. Loved the zoo! Food is not worth the price but overall great experience.
Jessica Calvert
I haven't been since they've overhauled the whole park. Maybe six or seven years. I am super impressed. We went on a weekday in July so lines weren't too bad. Staff was extremely friendly and the zoo was clean. Bathrooms weren't fantastic. Dolphin show line outside needs better facilitation. There's no designated place to stand so a lot of people walking around confused or cutting in line or creating several line branches. It's also right in the middle of a main walkway so it blocked a lot of it, which is annoying. Butterfly house and gardens were beautiful as usual.
Sarah Snowden
We love coming to our zoo! My favorite animals are the big cats and Elephants. My daughter can't get enough of petting sharks and stingrays, and my husband loves the Macaws, Rhinos ... and all of the Pokémon gyms. It's a winner for everyone!
lisbeth mora
An extraordinary experience, we were lucky to see some animals despite the cold, the decorations totally suitable for each family photo at Christmas, I loved the hot chocolate. I’ll go again!
Nimil S
It's a nice attraction in indy. It's just big enough that won't make your legs tired after so much of walking. Pick a nice day to visit. There's plenty of parking. Animals are treated well.
Uniplush p
This place is beautiful, it's amazing and it's fun. It's the first zoo I've been to since I was young, and this one is a lot better then the ones I have been to. I would highly recommend this place to families or just people who want to hang out and sight see. The food here isn't the best and a bit overpriced but this place Is still worth attending.
Izzy Street
The baby tigers were so cute! The dolphins were so loud in the dome, my baby was able to hear them. Such a cool experience. The crow (Artemis I believe was her name!) was amazing. My who family won’t stop talking about the cup staking to anyone who will listen. Please keep up the great work indy!
Hannah Draper
I gave 4 star because not many exhibits were open, due to them just opening I'm assuming. The dolphin show was amazing though! My son loved the Walrus too!
God Gamer
When we went the weather was still beautiful out. Saw kids in their Halloween costumes and the had a Halloween trail. Saw the Dolphin show. Beautiful and smart creatures. Would have love to go on the train ride around the plains. The line was alittle long but not busy long. Only one that we did get to see was the polar bear. I think he was out thay day. Overall a nice place to bring your kids.
Anup Viswanathan Thampi
We went there by 2011 and we loved the zoo a lot. There were plenty of animals, birds and aquatic animals. It was clean and really tidy. We were allowed to touch sharks without hurting their fins.
We loved the dolphin show a lot.

Flamingo Feed Experience

Tots Treehouse and Play Area
Don't miss out the dolphin show as it one of the most crazy ride we will ever watch.
Highly recommended for family with children
Crystal K.S.
It's a smaller zoo but so great! The desert is very cool, it doesn't feel like the animals are in an exhibit. Probably don't need more than half a day to see everything but we will definitely be visiting again
Corey Hardin
We had a ball! The zoo was clean and the staff very friendly. The Christmas themed events were awesome and of course the animals were amazing to observe. Excellent for a day trip to hang and enjoy the scenery. 8/10 would do again.
Hallow Noir
I've purchased a membership and I enjoy every cent of it with my fiancee. The staff has always been very friendly and the animals seem well taken care of.
Ari
We had a blast at this zoo we spent almost all day here and did not get to see it all because there was just so much to do and see. We came right when it opened so there was bot lines for anything.the skyline was really nice ,our face thing was the bird feeding.the dolphins show was really nice too but it was really short .the food was good and there was just so much to do.
Paul Kern
Went down to Indy so my wife could do the swim with the dolphins experience. It was so cool. She was in the water with them, fed them, gave them commands, got to touch and interact with them, etc. I was the observer. I watched her do all the things. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. She said her face hurt from smiling so much! Even as an observer we were very close to the action and got to see all the backstage stuff. Super cool! Also the lady who led us around was super helpful and answered all our questions!
Michael Ryan
We went last Sunday and very much enjoyed this zoo. Wait lines were intense and we were bummed they weren't doing any Giraffe feedings, but other than that food was great and atmosphere was good considering how busy they were.
Chuck Mathias
An amazing zoo.
We really enjoyed the pelicans, and feeding of the budgies.
Not to mention, the largest grizzly bear the we have ever seen.
pastor kggallahar
This was a Great zoo, for the first visit to the Indy Zoo my family and i had a blast, from all the wonderful animal exhibits to the opportunity to touch stingrays and small sharks this was an awesone time, some exhibits were closed due to season and upgrades, but still gets 5 stars,
Ktiira blanco
I loved the zoo, the beautiful animals, well cared for, everything clean, in short, it met all my expectations and I had an incredible day.
Cherie Schanz
Such an enjoyable day. Kind Zoo staff who are very nice to talk to and learn more about the animals. Beautiful Zoo.
Beverly Kaye Rizada
Best zoo ever! Clean and well maintained environment and the animals look very well taken care off. My family's a big supporter of you guys. Keep it up! :)
Joycee West
It was our first time there and my babies had a great time we did face paint and everything was so nice the only bad experience I had was when we went to the cafe to order food the cashier told us it would be 5 min I walk back up to get our cups bc we ordered combos and it was a different cashier and she said to me “people who forget their cups usually come back right away” assuming I was lying about not receiving our cups then I told her well we haven’t even received our food yet then she was all apologetic and whatever got me upset a little but whatever over all a great time
Tiffany L
We have lived many places and this is one of our favorite zoos. It is not too large yet not too small. The dolphin show is a must! It can get crowded but is very educational for kids and parents. Who doesn't like seeing dolphins do tricks??? Sit in the splash zone for a treat😁
There are many talks throughout and the train ride is also fun. You cannot see a lot of animals on the train but is a fun experience and educational when you want to take a break. We watched the dog show and listened to the gorilla talk. Both were amazing to see!
If we lived here we would have a membership.
There is tons of parking as well.
Lynette Marshall
We went on a chilly, winter day and enjoyed it immensely. Not crowded so plenty of time to stay at each exhibit.
Keith Byron
Had a really nice time at the zoo. It was very clean, the animals seem to be well cared for, and there’s a really great variety. They encourage reusing bottles and bags. The gift shop didn’t have paper or plastic bags to carry stuff away.
Enjoy All these things
Wow. Impressed with the animals of course but I was stunned by their conservation efforts. First place I’ve ever been that doesn’t provide plastic lids, plastic straws, and bags for purchases. Way to go!
Matt Edwards
This was nice zoo. Animal habitats were decently sized and provided sevedal perspectives to view for most of the larger animals. Many people though made viewing difficult. Food court was packed with a line an hour out.
Melinda Phillabaum
Took our 3 yr old grandson and he loved it! Best to go early for good parking and to see the animals. Good to see them being fed too. Bring snacks and picnic lunch, lots of spaces outside to eat.
Lori Renee
The tickets are really expensive for having several empty exhibits. Turtles had too much fun though. Keep an eye on those two, they don't care if there are children present. :D
Rachel Myers
We had a phenomenal time visiting the Indianapolis Zoo!
Our family hasn't been since 2019 and it was nice to go back. Their facility is neat, clean, and the zoo keepers seems to truly enjoy their job.
My personal favorite is the dolphin show. Make sure you get your ticket when you enter the park. The show is included with your zoo ticket but you do have to "reserve" which show time you would like.
The only disappointment of the day was that the Cheetah race experience was closed. Our son looks forward to seeing how his speed increases over the years.
Sari N
We had an excellent time! The Elephant chat was neat! All the animals were great to see!
Alysha Szymczak
I went on a Saturday and had a good time except for the fact that almost everything at the zoo stops at 2:00pm. No dolphin shows, or any animal talks. I tried to ride the gondola after getting to the zoo, but even though there were people on it, they stopped selling tickets. We rode the train but I highly recommended you skip the train. You don’t see anything on it except some buildings and the street by the zoo. No animal habitats are in view on the train unfortunately.
I looked at the zoo’s website and it doesn’t mention what time the gondola stops or anything. I think they need to update the site so people can plan better. If I had known, I would have left my home earlier (I live about 4 hours from the zoo). The website also mentions the price but I think it’s cheaper to buy tickets online than at the gate. (We paid $65 for two people not including $10 parking).
But you do get to see some animals up close. The kangaroo exhibit was really nice, as well as the underwater dolphin dome.
Little Bean
Really great zoo. I watched the dolphin show it was definitely worth it! It's pretty big compared to many zoos i've been to. The gift shop has a lot of options if you are looking to buy a suvy. The pricing is a little bit much for the food but other than that i'd definitely go back!
Olivia dawn
We had a great experience, great workers there, and lots to see! Our kids had a blast! Definitely recommend a sloth experience, petting sharks and sting rays, going to the butterfly exhibit and sitting in the splash zone at the dolphin show! ❤😊 …
Nicholas DiBlasi
This zoo has so much to see & to do. The animal exhibits are clean. Staff is friendly & knowledgeable. Can easily fill an afternoon trying to see everything.
Mike Oliveri
Beautiful zoo with plenty to see and do. We spent about three hours here, and we and were moving along pretty quick. The dolphin dome is must-see, and the orangutan exhibit was great. The conservatory and gardens are worth seeing on the way out as well.
Mark Barnes
My daughter had so much fun here for her birthday. Animals were very active for us. I would recommend to by the unlimited attractions band. We did not and we could have saved money. Very clean.
Alan Dennis, Baron of Cowie
This is a great little zoo. The staff are great and the animals are easy to see. And there are a lot of activities for kids. But it is small, so don't expect to see a lot of animals. I highly recommend the animal painting encounters--just pure fun for the animals and for you
Keshia Echols
A very nice and clean zoo. Lovely place to take your children and tire them out!!
Siva Sai Prasad Choutupalli
Overall it was a good experience. Kids enjoyed a lot. Dolphin show was very good and highly recommended.
Cade Lenz
We were able to visit the Indianapolis Zoo while we were in Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. It was a very exciting zoo with lots of events going on all the time! I was able to pet sharks, watch a dolphin show, see dozens of large animals and much more. I would love to visit again some day.
KillerKitty0330
The zoo was amazing my husband and I took a trip to Indiana and we saw animals we haven't seen before the enclosures are big and beautiful
Rob Norris
The zoo Christmas lights are awesome! Definitely worth the trip. A great time for the kids especially ages 2-10. The Santa line went faster than expected, going next year for sure!
Daniella Young
The zoo is well kept. The animals all appear to be well cared for. The ocean exhibit and the dolphin show were my favorite parts of the zoo. They have a lot of things you can do here. You can feed different animals even race a cheetah if they have it going while you are there. The food and drinks are pricey but you are at the zoo so it's to be expected.
Brad R
Had so much fun with my Dad. Probably my favorite exhibit was the elephant 🐘. Watching the Macaws fly around was cool too. Will definitely go back soon. …
Melissa Reynolds
Lots of great animals to see and things to do. The Gibbons are the best and the underwater dolphin tank is amazing.
Lorraine Friedman
Have you ever seen something so beautiful it made you cry other than birth maybe? Make sure you don’t miss the birds in flight! The Macaws are so beautiful and amazing! The best place to go for family outings and the yearly membership is a great value. Lots to see and always new additions. Great educational tool for children especially home schooled. Lots of encounters and they count as schoolwork in some online schools. Thank you so much for a wonderful time! Best part of my trip was spending time with my children and grandchildren at the zoo!
Lanell Williams
Had and awesome time!! Kid friendly, lots of animals that you can view up close & personal. Redesigned zoo provides a fresh visual experience and great photo opportunities within the zoo. Highly recommended 👍🏽👍🏽 …
Nicole Baise
Animals seemed very interested in the people, as they was the ones at the zoo watching us . The Animals seemed very happy & healthy
Angela Downam
Great time at the zoo. I went with the standard tickets and was there for over 4 hours and still didn't quite see everything. The animals looked healthy. The staff seemed knowledgeable and took pride in there work. It was busy, yet very clean. Highly recommend.
tiffany tarter
It's small compared to other Zoos, but still has a good assortment of animals. My family and I love to come here. We've made multiple trips this year. They have snack bars, face painting, bottle refill stations, sanitizing stations, and a dolphin show.
Paige Freeman
Great time. They now have rides which are extra money of course roller coaster, skyline ride and carousel. However just to alert you they closed some of the rides before the zoo closed so we actually weren't able to do the skyline. Most animals were on display and not too many were off exhibit. Drink prices not too terrible and for adults they have some local beers in cans for you to enjoy.
Sam Sachs
This is a top notch zoo that will surprise you with the variety of animals and quality of the exhibits. They have a number of indoor exhibits including an aquatic area, a reptile area with a huge number of rare snakes and an orangutan building. They even have an indoor butterfly exhibit next to the main entrance that is included with your entrance ticket. All these indoor exhibits help to make sure the zoo is accessible all year around. Prices are a bit high for a single visit, so if you live in the area I highly recommend considering the membership which pays for itself after just a few visits. The place gets busy, especially on the weekend, so get here as close to opening as possible.
Asher Demoret
A great time for adults and children! I loved the zoo as a kid and now I love to bring my son. Highlights for me include the oceans exhibit and the orangutan building. The food is pretty good for concessions style fare. The zookeepers seem to really enjoy caring for the animals and educating visitors.
Dustin Barrett
We came to Indy for a family reunion. We took a group of 25-30 people and it was simply a great time. Plenty of things to do for the kids, the dolphin show was stunning, prices were reasonable for such nice facilities.
James baird
This is one of the better zoos I have visited. The animals appear to be well taken care of. All of the animals were very easy to view in the outside areas, the indoor areas were very nice.
Desiree Roberts
Super clean & all of the animals were out & on the move! Love that they have a little aquarium section. The dolphin show is a must see!
Kevin Welsh
Visited during Zoo Boo (Halloween Festivities) on a Friday. We arrived around 10:45am just in time to do a flamingo feeding. That was fun and exciting for my 6 & 7 yo kids. We did a giraffe feeding as well around 1pm. Again, it was worth it. There was a line at this part of the day but it moves fast as it is a quick feeding transaction (carrot on tongue and move along). Would have given 5 stars but the whole wrist band purchasing transaction was confusing. It was my first time doing that. Probably will just do tickets from now on as there is not enough time in the day to do feedings and rides to make it really worth the whole adventure package value. If you get there earlier in the day and plan out where and when, you might do better than me to make that happen. Also a suggestion for the Zoo would be to load/link these tickets/bands to your Zoo membership instead of messing around with more paper/bands that get lost. Also, you could have that done online before even getting into the park! I saw a family have to reach through a fence to get a ticket that blew away! Not safe!!
Alan Espinet
So I live just 2 hours away and I decided to give this place a try. Its not as big as other zoos I have visited (I didn’t even end up tired at all) but I really enjoyed my time here. The dolphins show is pretty and the dog challenge is something I REALLY recommend if you like dogs. They have some rare animals like White Rhinos and Cheetahs. Something I noted is how amazing and healthy all animals look, they all look great, and for a zoo, that’s an automatic 5 stars from me. Will I return? Probably no, cause I saw everything they have to offer, but definitely for a one time visit is a great place.
Tracy Russell
Even though it was very hot we enjoyed ourselves so much thank you to the Indianapolis zoo.
Dan Bartlett
My son really enjoys the zoo, especially around Halloween (Zoo Boo) and Christmas. They seem to be adding new things periodically -- they added something this year where you can interact with kangaroos, which was pretty interesting.
It is busy during the special event times of year, so plan accordingly. The last time we went they had a very large portion of the parking lot closed off as a lay down are for construction on what I believe was the kangaroo exhibit. You can see driving buy what is in the closed off area and it seems like a very generous amount of room for that purpose and parking was a challenge because of that. They were shuttling people to some remote parking area and the line to get on the shuttle was really long.
Jason Schmock
Beautiful zoo. It was zoo boo time so lots of fun Halloween decorations. The day we came a lot of schools came too but it's big enough we were not bothered by the hoards of kids. Food was decent. The animals were very active and it's was so cool to see an elephant.
Chad Hughes
This is a nice zoo, we really like visiting.
We bought the grandparents plus pass pretty good deal. Avoid going on the train you don't see any animals! Unless you just like riding trains..I just expected to see animals on the ride. That aside we always have a nice time here...don't miss the butterfly exhibit!
Joey Trottier
We bought the total adventure package and I would strongly recommend NOT doing that. There's 4 rides, and the animal feeds are limited and scheduled. It's not worth the money to spend an extra 17 per person for a couple of small experiences. The train ride was a waste of time, it went along the highway not through or near enclosures. We caught a glimpse of giraffe and an elephant on the train, but just barely through the trees. The kid enjoyed it though.
Everything else as far as the animals, the enclosures, the whole experience was beautiful. There's little informative plaques up by each animal. There's staff scattered about to explain things and give animal facts. It was tons of fun.
Lindsey Burton
Beautiful clean zoo, loads of amazing animals. Definitely a must visit!
B Witt
Great place to enjoy with the family. Very clean, and I feel like they really go above and beyond to create a memorable experience. If you're looking for fun, family oriented activities I would recommend to anyone
Wendy Lentz Civil
This place is wonderful, there’s a lot of things to discover and they take good care of the animal!
Perfect place for fun activities for kids and tourists!
Seth Brinkman
Such a beautiful place, very intimate exhibits, the family loved it. Seeing the dolphin show was really neat. Staff was friendly and grounds were well kept. Would definitely visit again.
jimwings
Great Sloth Encounter! My girlfriend has always loved Sloths, so she signed us up for the Sloth Encounter. It was AMAZING!
Our guides were so informative.
We walked the zoo and had a wonderful time.
Only being 6 hours away, i am surprised we had not been there yet! We will definitely be back!
Sam Robinson
Very nice and friendly. It was clean. Some of the animals weren't out because of the weather. $10 to park plus admissions.
Michael Pettit
We visited the Zoo for the first time today and had a great time. Love all the different areas they have for the animals and we really love the dolphins show. A fun day for sure and we will definitely be back.
Beth Martin
Let me preface my review by saying that we have been zoo members for well over a decade. The Indy Zoo has played a big part in our family and our traditions.
I have become progressively disappointed in our visits to the zoo. While I have loved the new additions of orangutans, kangaroos, etc., it's hard to see the upkeep of the park going downhill. There was trash all over the park at 9 AM. Some of the older areas are tired and worn. I have seen the eagles a small handful of times during our visits. And the hypocrisy of the zoo's conservancy message is just sad. A small forest was knocked down and then recreated in metal (mostly so they can have more corporate outings and other events to cater to). They allow multiple invasive plants to grow throughout the zoo. It's too bad they consider distant environments more important than our local one.
That being said, we will definitely continue to visit and look forward to seeing the new changes coming. We'd just love to see the whole zoo and local environment being cared for.
Laura White
Animals were great!! The worker crews were awesome. The parking system is not clear if you have to got to the over flow parking.
The train ride has no animals to see on it except for the back of the giraffe cage. Not worth paying for. Gift shops were cute and full of nice items.
Marcus VonMaximus
They got a lot of construction going on so it's hard to really get around the place. They also have got rid a few animals, but added the kangaroos exhibit.
Zoey Gillett
As my second time going to the Indianapolis Zoo I really enjoyed it. I do wish the dolphin show was a bit longer but it was great. However I do have a note the zoo and dolphin show especially promotes how we should reduce non-reusable plastic but yet they sell plastic water bottles and use plastic bags. Also food and drinks prices are a little high. Also the train is a little pointless. You can't see any animals. Also butterfly house was great. So I think the good out ways the bad.
L &J
One of the best zoos I’ve visited. Unfortunately it’s quite expensive but hopefully that cost goes to good care for the animals and overall conservation efforts. Animals were active in most exhibits even in the summer heat. Smaller zoo, but perfect for kids because you can cover a lot of ground and see most of the zoo in 2 hrs or so, which is about perfect for younger kids.
Meg
We spent about 6 hours here and had a great time! It was our almost 2 y/o first zoo visit. We cannot wait to bring him back! Perfect size to be able to see everything without being too warn out lots of food options. Super fun day and great memories were made ♡
Tristan Diekman
This zoo is pretty cool. They have interesting exhibits that are engaging and interactive. Their bird show involves macaws flying over your head, and their dolphin exhibit is really interesting. You walk into this glass dome and watch dolphins swim around you. Also, they have a really cool orangutan exhibit that both informs visitors about their endangered status and gives the orangutans a place to climb and move around. Their food is decent for a zoo as well. Its a refreshing and fun zoo.
Megan Hedrick
Great zoo. Did not get to enjoy all aspects due to time of year, but able to see many animals.
Teanna “Flawlesslovelylibra87”
Love going here. Animals look as if they are always tired and medicated but it's a great family thing to do
Joshua Adams
A small but fair size zoo, looks modern and well kept. The lay out of the park is nice and won’t have you walking past something twice. I do with the park focused a little more on conservation rather than adventure and meet and greet with animals. Prices for tickets are fair and currently for capacity restrictions; reservations are needed via online.
Emily Naylor
Nice for a small zoo, few animals and the exhibits were kinda small. Good viewing of what animals that are there. Zoo staff is doing limited entry to all indoor exhibits, so be prepared to wait. Food options are limited and most drinks available come in a small tab can with the exception of water which comes in a recloseable aluminum bottle. Overall the zoo is rather over hyped and rather expensive for the price.
Michelle Beer
We're from St.Louis, and we love our zoo. This zoo is amazing! You get so up close and personal with all the animals. We got the extra pass for feeding flamingos and giraffe and that was the coolest experience! We rode the sky tram and got to see an arangatang climb around high up by the cable cars. Was crazy watching that too. 5 really isn't a high enough rating. Really 25 is what I would rate it!
naye flores
Great experience for the kids. They had so much fun. They loved the dolphin show
Jennifer Gona
We love the Indy Zoo! We've been members for almost 20 years. It was crowded today because of the beautiful weather and the holiday, but we still had a great time and were able to see all the animals. Here are a couple of my favorites
Katie Jhonson
This place was really nice and well kept.
The animals were all beautiful and healthy looking.
The out door climbing exhibit with the orangutans is really cool.
Has a cool petting pool with stingrays and sharks.
And the penguins swim underwater, under your feet from one side to the other of their exhibit.
The only thing I didn't like was the dolphin enclosure is just like sea world. A blue pool, no natural looking habitat or anything to stimulate, they just swam back and forth.
All in all place is worth the visit, also not super big so kids won't get super tired and cranky.
Bing Law
Spacious parking lot. Varieties of animals and zoo rides. They also have food courts.
Jana Sheets
I always love this zoo amd carry membership passes yearly. Animals seem happy and well cared for. It is safe and is a wonderful family venue.
Ryan
We went for the Christmas lights and they were much better than last year's! They were all around the park this year. I will say we got there around 415 and walked around while there was still light out so we could see animals with our little one. Then it got dark while we were there so we walked around again with all the lights. There were not many people there. We left around 630 and the place started getting packed and parking was overflowing so we went at a great time!
Jim Thomas
Very good layout. Friendly staff. The animals were active. The food was good.
Deborah Flowers
The Indianapolis Zoo was a wonderful treat! Walking through, it was very clean! There were seats all over for taking a rest. The carousel was loved by all the children as was the roller coaster. The dolphin show was wonderful, as always, though this time it was more educational and I loved that! The only thing I would like to see improve is the train ride... The entire train ride, we saw a giraffe... It would have been nice if the train was situated in such a way that you can see more animals while on the ride. I would highly recommend you stop at the Indianapolis Zoo while you are in town!
Shaeli Bowers
It's great! The food options aren't always available and just as expensive as other zoos, but the animals are active and the staff is great.
Adelino Esquivel
We went the weekend before Halloween 🎃 on a Sunday around 11:30am there was no line to get in.
By the time we left at 3:50pm they were not accepting any more visitors and were at capacity so it fills up fast.
There were many zoo attractions for our kids to see and other kids in the Halloween outfits too.
They saw all types of animals very few were not in their exhibits so it turned out to be a great day we missed the dolphin show since you need to be in line and then the lock the doors after.
Brett Beck
We went for the holiday lights event. Was really impressive. They had some animals out in more accessible places than normal (penguins) as well. They had lots of extra "event" food stands, a reindeer barn, and a mirror maze. Throughout the park they had additional lighting (on the train ride), a approximate 50' lighted tree light show synced with music, and plenty of fire pit stations to keep warm. For a couple bucks you could buy a smore kit and roast up a marshmallow. All the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about where to find certain attractions. Could easily do a half day (even though it was at night) seeing everything. The added play were the nocturnal animals were out and more visible than at other day visits we have done.
Timothy Fish
Have had a pass from this place for years now, and our 3 young children love it. If you're local, it's a great way to get the kids outside. Can even camp out inside the oceans exhibit on hot days or the desert exhibit on cold days! Highly recommend.
Michelle Lee
We took the grandbabies. It was a rainy chilly day and not many animals were out. Understandable. Even so, it was a beautiful walk and we still showed the kiddos a bunch of other sites involved around the animals. Exercise, air and in a really informed cool place. We buy the yearly passes so there's no wait and no extra charges. FYI- they sale refillable drink cups for $10 and some change. I bought 2 for future excursions to the Zoo.

We love our hometown zoo! Plenty of indoor and outdoor exhibits. Has had so many renovations in the past five years + constantly evolving. We always have a different visit. The White River Gardens are also included with your zoo admission, dont skip it. The dolphin dome is magical! A few hands on opportunities. Parking is $7 for non members and free for members. Pack your lunch and stay for awhile or buy your meals at the cafe. Special events + summer camps are also offered throughout the year.
Jer Hel
Lots of people. Not much candy was being handed out from the different booths. Too many people to see everything and enjoy the animals. Had to park a ways down the road and walk. Line to get in was probably close to a mile long. Not exaggerated at all. Would not recommend the zoo boo special to go if you want to see animals.
Allison Cardona
It was great! My friends and I visited on Mother's Day and it wasn't too crowded. My friends and I all had a blast feeding the birds and meeting the dolphins. If you can afford to do those I HIGHLY recommend them!
Josh Stead
The zoo was nice, just a couple of issues. Don't waste your money on the train unless you want to see a great view of the road and the maintenance area, the only animal exhibit you come close to seeing is the giraffes.. They have what we thought would be cool in a skylift you can go around part of the zoo in, however after waiting in line for over 45min on 2 separate occasions just to be told they were shutting it down(both times due to wind it was not a windy day) and that they weren't going to reopen it because it was to close to them closing was the answer we got, it was 330pm they close at 9pm. Other then that the zoo was nice and the animals we out and playing.

My kids and I had a blast! For the price, we had an amazing trip. Concessions are lacking and overpriced is a significant downfall. But aside from that, the dolphin show, aquarium, and not to mention all of the exhibits no attractions we didn’t even have time to explore were phenomenal! Can’t wait to go back!
Sadjad Anzabi Zadeh
Great zoo with lots of animals to see. We had better luck during summer as we saw more animals. In the fall, we couldn't see many forest animals, and there was a lot of construction (which is good news to some degree). The kangaroo section was a nice new addition.

I love taking my son here every year. We went around Halloween and scared the monkeys with my sons clown mask. It was so funny. I hope I wasn't traumatizing them, nothing wrong w a good scare. It was a children's mask. The dolphin show always makes me emotional lol idk why but its a great show and they're such sweet animals. I do wish many of the exhibits were bigger. I cant help but feel bad for some of the animals due to a small, claustrophobic, boring habitat that some of them have. Anyway, my son enjoys the water animals the most.
Taneisha Drew Nowell
Great experience... Was in town for their zoo boo event and it was a pleasant surprise. The park was well decorated with great photo ops. The pumpkin patch lane makes for a great family fun time
Overall, I love the layout of the zoo. We were able to see everything. The oceanside with dolphin presentation. It has alot of highlights and the several rides kids would love.
Abbi Sanderson
Wonderful experience! Butterfly exhibit is such an exciting experience, the flamingos are so beautiful, tigers and bears are exciting and active. The dolphins were amazing, all of these creatures are so magnificent. The zoo has done an excellent job!
Meghann Hale
Originally from Ohio we came to Indy for a comedy show but spent the day at the zoo. We had the standard ticket but had the dolphin meet and greet add on and it is sooooo worth it. A lot of the concession stands were closed but we were able to still get snacks/drinks. However a LOT of wasps/hornets I’m not even sure of the insect but it was close to one of them. There were swarms around almost every trash can for real. Overall it was pretty fun I would go back for sure.
Tana Vandeputte
Really nice zoo! Buy your tickets online- save $!
Adam Thomas
We had a great time yesterday with our students. Just wish there was more seating out front for students to eat. Overall great time!
thomas frey
I love the zoo. Today we took our 10 month old nephew and despite is age he loved it. We sat up front together for the bird show and saw the penguins jump and swim. For the price per person the zoo pass is the way I went and in 3 visits with our 5 person family it had paid for itself.
Sarah Novak
We went a few hours before closing and it was so nice. Not busy at that time.
Huma G
Great variety of animals, really emphasizing conservation at every turn and awesome resource of education for animal care and efforts world wide to make our planet better. Going around the entire zoo and seeing everything can be completed in just about 4.5 hrs if you catch all the shows and talks. More if you do feedings or have an animal artist make you some art. Worth a visit!
Courtney M
It's not the most amazing zoo, but it's good. There's a decent selection of animals, and the zoo is laid out pretty well ( when there's not construction everywhere). The employees are nice. Bathrooms are nicely spaced and plentiful.
The food and drinks are overpriced. A membership is the best option.
Chad Musselman
This is really a great zoo with everything pretty close together. It's a clean place with plenty of food and drink options. If you want to save money on food they have a lot of picnic tables outside the entrance and you can take your own and re-enter later.
If you plan on going more than once a year you should really look into a membership. It pays for itself in 2 visits plus you get lots of perks.
The only thing is say they're missing for animals is an Australia theme like the ft Wayne so has, but it's not a big deal. With everything else the kids don't notice.
They now have a kangaroo exhibit which is really cool. Can walk on the path and if they're close enough you can pet them.
They also have a carousel, train and other rides.
Nathan Choler
This is a really really good zoo. They have all of the big animals you'd hope to see at a major zoo plus dolphins. The orangutan exhibit is huge and awesome. Most of the exhibits have multiple viewing spots so you actually get to see all the animals. With that being said, due to Covid it's a really long wait to get inside the buildings. Additionally the area that we expected to have misters to cool us down only mists the flowers, so without going into buildings, shade is the only real way to stay cool. Also this zoo is not part of the AZA zoos, so no additional discounts for members of other zoos sadly. As for getting in and parking, the drive in was easy and parking was more than ample. We would consider coming back to this zoo in the future.
Chandra Wellman
Barely any lines, Nice and clean. Lots of exhibits and animals.
Carolyn S
Was very crowded when we visited but enjoyed the experience anyway. Would like to go back to see the dolphin show (filled up quickly). The bird show was surprising and fun (that’s all I will say as to not spoil it). Enjoy!
Max Upp
Great lil zoo! Entry price isn’t too much but it’s a bummer if you just want to go to the garden and conservatory, it’s not super clear on Google that those are separate. We got to see most of the zoo though before it started raining. And got to go to the conservatory once the rain picked up. The plants and butterflies are awesome.
Jeannine Winters
It should be against the law to charge $3.49 for 16oz. of water while all the drinking fountains are turned off and coolers are not allowed. Amusement parks have come around to offering free cups of water. Why is the zoo doing this to their patrons? The zoo is very cool, though, and well-kept.
Seth Brown
The Indy Zoo is a fantastic place to visit if you have the time and money to spare. I'd strongly suggest a membership if you plan on being a repeat visitor. It's a popular place, so expect a crowd, especially during special events like ZooBoo and Christmas at the Zoo.
The food is varied and excellent, but does attract bees when eating outside during warmer weather!
All the exhibits are worthwhile, but there's something extra special for me about the underwater dolphin viewing area and the aquarium.
Taylor Diamond
I really enjoyed the dolphin show, though it could have used some kind of cooling inside. The temp was VERY hot mid summer and it was the only thing that made the experience unpleasant. As for the rest of the zoo, the exibits were very well taken care of and it all seemed very well staffed and managed. I would definitely go again.
Staci Bourland
This zoo is awesome!! We went with family that loves just down the way. We were there for the opening weekend of their Halloween festivities. So many things to do and see and the prices were good! We will go back again when we are in town for another visit!
Lindsey H
As two adults with no kids we found the zoo to be very enjoyable. We purchased the TAP passes and it was definitely worth it vs $4 each additional activity. The giraffe animal feed was lack luster, but the bird cages were the star event! With the pass we could feed as many times as we wanted. It took about 3 hours to visit everything. Definitely one of the most hands on zoos I’ve ever been to.
Kenny Waddell
Great zoo. Get your tickets online you'll save alot. Lots of rare animals not seen at other zoos. Unfortunately there was love in the air today but that's nature. We had a great time and so did those 2 dolphins.
Alex Nelson
I had high expectations for this zoo and they were partly met. There are areas where visitors can interact with kangaroos, sharks and sting rays, which was a highlight. The park feels well designed to travel in a linear fashion and circle back to anything missed. We visited every exhibit in about 2 hours. My only complaint is the price. They charged $10 for parking and then the entrance fee was about $60 for two people. It's a little cheaper if you buy the tickets online and there are QR codes to facilitate that, but it still would have been $55 bucks (not including parking) even though my companion gets a senior discount. Perhaps rates are higher due to Zoo Boo.
Ethan Fletcher
The zoo itself is great! There was plenty of parking, much appreciated.
The exhibits are large, kept up and seem designed with the animals comfort in mind.
The sky lift was worth the wait. Don't waste your time or no money on the train.
The largest gripe is with the food. I understand I'll have to over pay for food but couldn't it at least be edible? My daughter couldn't even eat the cheese sandwich it was so tough and the flavor was bad.
Tanya Purdy
I'm from Florida and maybe I'm just spoiled.
I thought the rhino enclosure was too small.
I'm not sure why the elephants, hoofed animals and rhinos aren't housed together. Maybe not enough land?
Anytime I'm traveling and I have time, I visit the zoo. I wasn't a fan of this one.
A lot of areas were closed. I took that as a good thing. Improvements are always important.
Cheyenne Jones
I absolutely loved my experience at the Indianapolis Zoo! So many immersive experiences and beautiful animals to visit! Food and drink is a bit expensive ($4 for water) so come prepared to spend some money to stay hydrated. Great things to see and do for animal loving adults and kids alike! Would recommend to anyone that happens to be in town.
Gianna Breidel
I like to visit Zoos and sanctuaries in every big city, and this one was nice. The layout was great and walkable, the animal enclosures were clean and there were opportunities to purchase food and merch but not aggressively so. Only downside was the ticket price, I couldn't believe a single adult ticket was $32.
Mysterious Storm
First time at the Indianapolis Zoo and it was awesome. Lots of animals to look at and things to do. Make sure to go to the dolphin show it was amazing. We also rode the train and skyline. The train wasn't that great. It jerked around a lot and there were only giraffes to see. The skyline was cool they had two Orangutans out, that was upon the high poles.
Brianna Wright
Took my boyfriend and I roughly 2 hours to go through the whole park. You have to have a separate ticket for the dolphin show and they were already sold out. I recommend arriving early for less crowds and the animals are more active. I personally thought it was a little smaller compared to the other zoos I’ve been too, but I still enjoyed my time.

Annette Brown
Great trip! However the train ride is a waste of money. Who wants to look at the behind the scenes landscape stuff or a garden or weeds along the path. We expected to see animals. It's the zoo. You are lucky to see a zebra. The weeds are too grown up to see the zebra which would have been the only animal you could see.
billy hancock
Bought the grand parents plus 2 and took grandson. The Christmas lights are up, Santa is hanging around and while many animals are put up, still had several out. Has 1 restaurant open and it was cool outside. I think the grand parents plus 2 is the way to go. Can take grandkids and their parents and it only costs about 250 dollars. We anticipate going several times this year or it wouldn't equal out.
Tina Magnani
I love the Indianapolis Zoo went July.2 & 3rd 2021. The only issues I seen the grounds on route on train rides need cut Bad unable to see animals weeds & grass were to high. Seems the grounds haven't been taken care of well.Staff was great helpful. I will be going back got another membership.
FLZ
Great place to spend an awesome time. Kid friendly layouts & exhibits. Some new renovations and additions going on. Go early to get parking in Lot A. Lot B is not close although they do offer shuttle service.
Omerta Cxxxnt
We had a good time. But the dolphin experience is nothing like advertised online. They say you get photos and a towel, and it's a 90 minute thing. The show was a half hour, and you just get to kneel down and grab the dolphins flipper. It's cool, but definitely not what they advertised, definitely disappointing.
Kim Finn
Fantastic day! We are members but it's still best you log on line and pick the time you want to enter as this COVID-19 still requires metering the number of patrons they can let in.
A few construction areas limit access to a some areas. Also, get those Dolphin Show tickets right away as it sells out quickly every day!
Sarah Molen
Had a great time at ZooBoo! It was clean, inviting, full of activities, and the animals looked well cared for. I do wish the bathrooms were a little nicer. They seemed kind of run down, and the diaper changing surface was literally right next to the loud hand dryer, which terrified my baby.
AngelWingsYT
Had a blast when i went (despite the long lines for all interior exhibits) animals were fairly active when i went and got some incredible pics! The mini coaster was a ton of fun as well! The birdfeeding was my favorite (fair warning. The larger birds you feed nectar too WILL climb all over your back and head and will attempt to steal hair ties and masks LOL) wish i could of seen the intior exhibits but lines were long n VERY slow moving.
Park was kept very clean! Hope to visit again soon!
Patrick Hayes
Compared to the Columbus and Cincinnati Zoos it is small or shall i say "cozy." Its really a benefit because you get closer to the animals at Indy. The Dolphin observation tank is incredible and the Orangutan center is a remarkable way to observe apes. Only negative is that after you pay $30 to enter the Zoo everything is a "costs extra" shakedown. Like buying a bag of chips at the airport you wonder "does it have to be THIS expensive for everything?" We had a great time but i don't know when zoos switched from being museums to amusement parks. Maybe i am remembering my 80's childhood wrong and its always been a carnival.
Gummudala Hymavathi
It was good lightings and all
I went between Christmas and New Year’s Eve
Can be covered in 2 hours
Manli Davis
Nice zoo and aquarium. Plenty of opportunities to interact with animals.
Jonathan Eckart (Johnny Bravo)
Went on a Monday and foot traffic was light and not crowded. Dolphin exhibit was fun and the trainers did a great job. It was a good family trip and the kids loved it.
Texas Rose
Indy zoo is great! Beautiful scenery, paths are easy to navigate, lots of food options, not an extremely large zoo so you can navigate the whole park in 4 hrs or so. We usually give ourselves 5 hrs. Butterfly park is separate...
Manali Jadawala
We visited the zoo for the zoo boo event on a Sunday. The zoo was really well decorated and lots of activities for kids. They had all animals in visible areas on the trick or treat path which was really nice.
Drs. Mini Me
Great for family, lots to see and do, go early to book for dolphin show, membership is good value
Debbie Wolfe
Went there with dtr, 5 grandchildren and my 6 month old great Grandaughter and it was great. Everyone there was great. It is rather expensive to get food there ($6.50 for a can of Dr Pepper and some fries) but did enjoy the time spent there.
Rohan Meher
If you are in Indy with or without kids, this place is must visit. The staffs are very friendly and go out of their role to help and suggest you. I liked the proximity of forest animals like Lions, Tigers, Rhino and Giraffe... Perhaps the only animal missing was Camel 🤣🤣... …
Edgardo M. Vasquez, Jr (Eddie, Chaos)
It was a wonderful experience to see all the animals & meet plus great the dolphins 🐬 😀 👍 💙 👏 😊
Rachel Springer
Highly recommend getting a zoo pass to make this experience more fun. Tickets to the dolphin show are sold out quickly most days, and it is a really cool experience. So a zoo pass allows you to enjoy exhibits without feeling like you have to pack it all in one day, and the chances of you getting to the dolphin show increase! One of the tigers always walks by the window when my kitty lover visits, the bird houses are neat, and the penguins are a hoot! The touch pool is too tall for my kids to enjoy properly, but they get their fingers wet and think it's fun. We get a pressed penny every time we visit! Water bottles are allowed in, and the filling stations are located near the bathrooms. They aren't able to accommodate food restrictions easily, but no one has given me a hard time about giving my kids a snack. (Every food item we asked about contained an irritant or the ingredients weren't known. Disappointed!) All in all a great little zoo, clean and well maintained.
Michelle Sherrill
1st time to attend zoo boo, it was awesome.
Michael Schneider
Lovely zoo. Plenty of animals to experience. I particularly loved the underwater dolphin tank, the walk-in bird enclosures, and the train ride.
Amy Trueblood
The Indianapolis Zoo is the perfect spot for young kids. It has 5 different areas giving lots of variety but not too big a place to cover everything in several hours. I recommend walking to the plains area and then working your way back to the entrance. Seems like most people start at the front and don’t always have the energy to get to the last section which includes giraffes, lions, cheetahs, elephants and zebras. The forest area sits on the middle of the zoo with monkeys, tigers and red pandas. The flight area is also in the middle and includes macaws and flamingos. The cafe is right in the center too, but try to get there before noon or after one to avoid long lines and limited seating. There are two enclosed water arenas: dolphins and penguins. Don’t forget to go to the observatory to see all the butterflies and wonderful plant life. I highly recommend it! Feels like a magical place for people of any age.
Jeremy Steele
Whole family had a great time. Only complaint is the train should be free for members.
Golf 911
A little small for a large city. Orangutan exhibit is very sad. No natural habitat. Concrete floors and small spaces. Other animal habitats were better. Also, zoo should have signage before entry telling you what’s closed. Half the exhibits were closed.
Kody kratzer
Went to Christmas at the zoo and the lights were beautiful. Only issue is the traffic light only allows acouple cars at a time to turn. I would recommend going from the westbound of Washington St instead of the east bound lane.
Brad Roberts
Indianapolis Zoo is a nice visit. A new entrance and Chimp exhibit are being constructed currently.
Kelly Holloway
Great staff, great variety, great events. I would give 5 stars except there is currently just an absolute ton of invasive construction going on, but I'm positive I'll wish I could give 6 once they're complete. Definitely recommend.
Zachary Stonebarger
Great place to take the kids! My advice, pay the $12 extra to get the adventure pass like we did, you won't regret it. You get to feed the animals at certain exhibits (birds, giraffe, etc.) and ride the rides. All the exhibits were amazing, the only problem we ran into is if you want to see the dolphin show, you have to present your ticket you get at the main entrance. We were lead to believe we needed a separate ticket and because of this, were unable to see the show. Aside from that, the butterfly exhibit is outside the main gate, it is not located within the park if you are looking for it based on the signs and map.
Adrianna Berrones-Riggs
Went for lights at the zoo after Chirstmas. Being so close to the penguins were cool. They had the Plains open this year with lights which was super cool. Next year I wonder if the could light displays out in the enclosure as if lighted animals were in the enclosure. My daughter was able to see Mrs. Clause which she loved.
ibidun damien
So Many Animals to see, had a lovely day. Happy Halloween!
Sean Newton
It was late afternoon on a frigid winter day when we arrived, so few animals were out and about. A few times, we trudged a long way in the cold to reach empty outdoor enclosures, and many of the creatures in indoor enclosures were sleeping or lethargic. It looked like it would be a great experience in warmer weather. The Christmas lights were very pretty, though, which helped make up for it.
Megan Anderson
I love my experiences at the Indianapolis Zoo. I think there are a few minor issues I have which prevent me from wanting to give it a full 5 stars.
First, the positives: the zoo has tons of wonderful exhibits, loads of animals that I haven't seen much of at other zoos, like orangutans and sloths! The sloth exhibit, however, has not been open on any of my visits since I was pregnant (for reference my son's 1st birthday was 2 months ago). There are many fantastic programs like Zoo Boo and ZOObilation. The staff is always nice, and I love the animal encounters (our most recent visit had a fun encounter with the flamingos getting super close and it was awesome!).
For the negatives: everything is a little overpriced. The tickets, the food... the only thing reasonably priced are the excursions like the bird or giraffe feed. The place was also not built with distancing in mind, which is just to say it's hard to get good animal views AND avoid people. The policy around masks is to wear them if distancing is not possible which comes across as more of a suggestion to other visitors.
My best advice: go early and avoid weekends when too many guests are let in.
Lauren Clements
Nice zoo sadly it was to cold for most of the animals but it was half price. The tiger twins were so cute. The touch pool was really cool. My boys loved the orangatas.
Eunji Jung
[Birds]The birds were so beautiful. Could have given them 5 stars but the bird feeding tickets had to be purchased somewhere else beforehand. Not so convenient for just giving birds some water. It was also too expensive for that water. Should be easy to just pay right before you enter the bird cage. [Flamingo] Flamingos were beautifu,l and the good weather was a bonus to enjoy the pink scenery. [Orangutan]You gotta check. [Dolphin]Underdome was interesting. [Tiger]Unlike the other zoos, these tigers actually were walking around and they come close to the glass! [Train]Still my toddler's favorite part. If you want to see the savannah animals, train is not ideal. The train goes behind the buildings so you see glimpse of giraffes, wilderbeest and few more but half of the ride is just riding next to parking lot and behind. [Butterfly Kaleidoscope]My favorite. Must see. You might sweat in the glass room. Some of the flowers(I wanted to see) looked like they melted from the heat. We are here in spring time(April) ..and it's still perfect. [The Garden] Summer would be better. 3rd week of April is not too bad time to visit though.
Overall, good family time. Could have been perfect if my toddler could have fed & had met the birds closely.
Tonya Green
Spring festival at the zoo amazing. It was extremely busy and packed. My children had a great time catching up with the zoo friends. The exhibits were nicely set up. The weather was great. All of the zoo animals weren't available but with Covid I'm sure that could have been a reason. I truly recommend a day at the zoo for the family.
Mary Owens
We love going to the Indianapolis Zoo!
(indianapoliszoo.com) Even though it's practically in the middle of the city, there are so many trees & plants you'd never know it. You have to look pretty hard to see a skyscraper.
The Zoo isn't huge, so it's easy to visit & see everything you want to see without wearing yourself out.
Currently, the Zoo staff are taking extra care to provide for social distancing so things aren't as they usually are. The Oceans (indoor) exhibits, the Dolphin Pavilion, and the Deserts exhibits are limited as to how many people may be inside at one time. Because of this there is a wait to get in, which was new for us this trip.
New exhibits for us this trip were the MISTery Park/Sloth exhibit and Tembo Camp where we got to see an elephant up close and even touch one! (I always forget they have hair on their bodies!)
Some shops & dining areas weren't open, but there are plenty still available. Don't let that stop you from going!
I also appreciate the Zoo's dedication to recycling & green energy as well as preservation of wildlife as well as waterways. There is a lot of education available available throughout the park in the way of signage & pictures to engage young and old alike.
Next time we go, I hope to get back to the White River Gardens (included with your Zoo admission) & Butterfly Kaleidoscope.
Donna Chaney
Would of been nice to know their guidelines for animals in December, states, weather permitting. It was low 40s and hardly any animals out except indoor exhibits. Christmas in the evening was done really well.
Darwin Brown
Took kids to zoo boo n had good time. Only issues were parking lot full so had to go to the overflow n waited awhile for shuttle. Also wished had more candy stops for the Littles. Will go again next year
Tuan Khai Nguyen Tran
Nice learning experience, really furnished zoo!
James Perkins
I was extremely impressed by Christmas at the Zoo. The light displays were wonderful and the Santa set up was great for my 4-year-old. A really cool family experience.
Jonathan Swatts
Absoutely perfect expierence! The two women working the ticket booths, first at the parking lot, and then again when walking into the Zoo itself, were both extremely kind. The Christmas set up inside the park looked awesome! The spiked Cider tasted great and came with a branded insulated cup (that was priced to match what you're getting).
Adam Martin
My 6 year old daughter absolutly loves the Red Panda. And it always seems to know when she is there! We also sat in the splash zone for the 🐬show for the first time. She loved it! We can't wait for the Alligators and crocodiles. …
Don Cray
Good zoo. I have visited quite a few and this one is nice because they let you get up close to many of the animals. I thought the ticket price was a little high but it is still worth it many exhibits were closed when I was there though
Black Eagle
The Zoo was awesome! Kids had a great time. Animals were mostly napping but they were enjoying their Sunday morning sunshine.
Matthew Davis
Its a pretty good zoo...i always have mixed feeling when it comes to animals in an enclosure as not all of them look so great. A lot of attention has been paid to the orangutan group amd from my understanding quite a few of them are rescues so I suppose their life is better now than it used to be.
On another more positive note, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the crowds were not huge as I think they are operating under limited capacity. Even so alot of the food stands are currently closed. The place seemed clean and made for a wonderful family day out and if the weather is nice its worth the time to go.
Jorden Linker
Very nice. Went for zoo boo kids had a blast. Cafe was fast and good food. Orangutan enclosure was awesome. Good assortment of animals.
Mike Monroe
Been going since I was a kid. My kids love it and I always thought once you see it once it's over but they add new stuff constantly and always hosting events . Membership is definitely worth it . 100% support the indy zoo
Vicki Mayer
It was a wonderful family day outing, and my mother truly enjoyed the experience. Tigers are her favorite! It was an easy layout to walk - an important consideration for older folks in our group. And... the Orangutan exhibit is the best!
:+)

My favorite zoo...so far. Just the right size. Dolphin exhibit was beautiful...however I will say it wasn't as special like I thought it would be. They were just swimming, a lot of times out if sight. The prettiest thing was the aquarium they were in. The butterfly exhibit also a little disappointing.....not to many butterflies. I am comparing this exhibit to the Memphis butterfly exhibit. But like the dolphin exhibit.....the exhibit was the best part. But as far as the rest, just beautiful. I love the rides you can take and it's all around a beautiful zoo.
Brooke Jones
We go every year and love it every single time! Average price you would pay for admission to a zoo. But bring your own water bottles!!
2022 still a favorite!
Lisa Auler
We went on a Monday and was a little disappointed. There were no feedings of the animals, certain animals were caged up and not visible, several of the food places were closed, and not all rides were going like they should've been. If I would have known all of these things were not available on a Monday I would've chose a different day.
Chelsea Walsman
We absolutely love our zoo. I am a former zoo teen and the experience was phenomenal. We are now zoo donor members and it is worth every penny!
Jennifer R
This zoo was okay. We road trip a lot and there are much better zoos out there to visit. We got to do the dolphin encounter which was unique. However, we felt rushed through it and it was a lot of money for only a several-minute experience. We did a quick walk-thru of the zoo and it was more than enough. *I would not visit this place during COVID. Many people took their masks off when they got inside and there was no accountability for it.
N Odell
Great for entrance to be free on Dr Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, but... Very cold out and lightly snowing all day. Not allowed to eat lunch inside out of the weather. The elephants and girraffs were inaccessible. People had to wait outside in the cold weather in lines to enter exhibits in buildings. However, the exhibits we did see were great. The dolphins were tremendous! The exotic birds were spectacular, the orangutans were very entertaining.
Travis Bridgewater
They are under construction so we had to park on harding street. They had shuttles but we did not want to wait in the long line so we walked. Once in, it was quite crowded for ZOOBOO. we basically followed a big line of people and the kids stopped briefly to get one small piece of candy. It was fun for the little ones tho.
Rose Hochstetler
It was so fun to take our grandson to for the first time!!!
David Paul
Loved the Christmas time at the zoo. Loved the dolphin show and the food was great.
Lanie Alyssa
I was surprised to learn there are over 3800 animals at the Indianapolis Zoo! The exhibits are well cared for and so are the public spaces. For the size of the Zoo and the number of people that might be there at any given time, they keep it very clean. It was crowded and you had to wait to view some exhibits, but the lines moved along so fast that the wait didn't ruin the experience. A caution to people with children, there were kids drink cups in 2 exhibits where it was apparent a kid dropped their cup into the exhibit, so please be mindful if you are holding a child up to view the exhibit that they don't have something they could throw into it in their hands. It was a shame and angering to see a cup in a tortoise exhibit and the drink was spilled all over the sand. I think the staff at this zoo is doing an excellent job of taking care of business and treating the animals they care for with dignity. A special thank you to the staffer who rushed over to wipe down a table my family was approaching to sit at, the table really didnt look dirty, but their sense of urgency and desire to make it nicer for us was so appreciated ❤

There's a lot more standing in line than actual animals but we had a blast and would definitely go again. Roughly $56 for 2 adults and $8 parking.

The indianapolis zoo is such a great place to visit. It's a very clean zoo and the animals are well taken care of. They have many opportunities to let you interact with the animals. They are still following covid restrictions. We will be planning many visits in the future. Such a fun experience for the family.

Had an amazing time. Everyone we ran into were ready to answer any questions the kids asked. They did the best they could with covid and people just not being responsible but I could see they tried to make it as safe as they possibly could.

It was my 3yr olds first time to the zoo. And he had so much fun. Only thing that made us sad was that we didn't make it to the gift shop on time on the way out😞 next time we will go to the gift shop first. …

It was a really nice zoo. Had lots of animals out to see even when it was pretty hot. The gardens are included but there was a really long line so we opted not to go. There was some architecture that we liked in the center area of zoo.
Bridget Mendes
It is worth getting a membership. I have one it gets myself and four guests in. Or a family or grand parent membership is great. The Christmas and display is amazing.

What a awesome place to take the kiddos! My daughter absolutely loved it! Lots of really cool animals and scenery! Great time for the whole family.🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 lions and tigers and bears OHH MYY!!! …

Kids had a great time at the zoo boo. Only thing was a hour wait for the train, lots of inpatient kids. Skip the train this time. We did appreciate that the train was sanitized between riders. Fun times...
Tara Piergies
VERY COOL! Definitely a win for the kids and adults alike. Flora was a gorgeous as the fauna and the dolphins were amazing. Butterfly house was a surprise show stopper. Rides are all down from covid buy still worth it. Will be back.

Great little zoo! Loved their elephant enclosure and the dolphin exhibit was great! They have a bird feeding area and a really fun "mist" walkway that leads up to a sloth up close! Super cute decorated for Halloween. Definitely a good time for kids and adults!
Chelsey Mae Ricaldi
I really liked this zoo! Fun experience to be there on a rainy evening. It was not crowded and the animals were very active. I wish more things would have been open, there were some things closed due to covid 19. Overall, it was worth it and I would go again!
Julianna Elise
Loved it! The grounds were beautiful! We were able to see a lot more animals up close compared to other zoos we’ve been to. We loved the lions and tigers! The dolphin show was cool, too. Bring your own water bottle, though. If you buy a fountain drink, you can’t get a lid for the cup, which isn’t convenient when pushing a stroller and walking with kids. But, if you can transfer your drink to another cup, that problem would be solved😜

A very good place to spend a whole day with fun and knowledge. Dolphins shows, rides, touching animals and plants is great. We loved the dolphin show a lot and it is worth seeing. They have a good collection of animals from elephants to frogs. Affordable priced tickets and well maintained. The aquarium is wonderful.

The overall experience was wonderful, from the customer service with an issue I had a reservation to the good conditions I perceived they keep for the animals. Regarding COVID-19 precautions, very well managed from my point of view. You can't miss the Dolphins show!!!!
Erika
Had a nice time. I wish the animals I was looking forward to were out. I thought maybe it was the temperature out. It got to the 50's. The elephants, giraffes, & rinos were not out. Still enjoyed! I'll go another time.

Love love love this zoo. Plenty of things to see and do and the best part was all the animals seemed extremely happy! I definitely will be back! I always enjoy the zoo and the kids loved it. No need to lift them up to see. Everything is viewable from a child’s view. Easy to get around. Loved the orangutan exhibit that slows them to get outside on high poles.?sorry did have photos of those guys

I love the presentation of the zoo. I am from DC and I think that because its so big and busy it maybe is alot on the upkeep.
This zoo in Indy is top notch, clean and simple. In addition the exibits seem to be arranged in a way that you always get animal interaction. The animals appear to be well trained and calm... I have nothing but great things to say about this zoo and will be back once my daughter is born.

My son love the zoo we get the membership to make itt worth thr money . never had a bad experience yet just wish they would open the skylight ride !

Much less crowded during the covid 19 guidelines. You have to wear a mask inside the buildings, but outside you do not. We got to watch an elephant get a bath and even got to pet her. We also got to see Kate the Orangutan show us how smart she is. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We've had a membership for years and this year they are just really great. The food from Nana's kitchen was really yummy. Didn't get to see the dolphin show because it was sold out by 10 am when we got there. I don't know if I missed where you can buy dolphin show tickets online or what. Great experience other than no dolphin show!

The price of admission is very high for the amount of zoo there is, but we still managed to spend an entire there and found something to do hour per hour. The food court is also equally as ridiculous in price, but I understand the pricing of everything is in order to ensure the animals are taken care of. The Christmas lights were pretty but far too many people showed up near the end of the day when the morning was relatively empty. Overall we had a good time, but we would probably not come back unless something major was added.
kristee hartung
Absolutely loved this zoo. It was our first time there and all the animals were out and active. They have a dolphin show which was awesome. It was very clean and was designed well. Much better than Cincinnati zoo in my opinion. Definitely want to go back.
Maegan Scheib
This is such a fun place to visit with friends and family. It is really fun for all ages. Even though the day we went, it was drizzling slightly, but it was still nice! At least it wasn't sweltering hot! The new sloth exhibit was very nice! It was asleep at the time, but still very cute!
jaclyn juarez
Friendly staff, there is not a lot of walking. You probably need about 3 hours to learn and see everything. During the time of my visit, the shows and interactions were closed, but I went 1 hour before closing. You get to see the animals up close compared to other zoo's. They have a water dome which is cool.
brittany Alzeer
The zoo itself is nice and spacious. Different little activities for kids and interactions for everyone. Definitely an improvement over the years. However, a few things that stood out about this visit. One, my two year old made a remark a few times about the animals seeming sad (mainly all the the primate varieties and birds). Two, I didn't notice many foraging or entertainment options for many animals. That's kinda sad as an animal owner myself. And three, the macaw cage was SEVERELY lacking in opportunities. Macaws are very intelligent and even though they are in an aviary, there seemed to be many lacking opportunities. At the time of our visit I did not see any captive foraging for ANY BIDS HOUSED. Nor toys or puzzle opportunities. The larger macaws seemed stressed and agitated by the shear number of birds coupled with lack of entertainment and we're picking at each other. Not like bonded grooming but picking at feet and wings. As a bird owner it is hard to explain the disappointment. Overall, wasn't too bad but would definitely recommend more activities for animals l.

We love the Indy Zoo, even during the virus we were able to schedule our group with ease online & had the BEST time + it was my birthday which made it that much sweeter! Every single animal was out that day (7/20/20) & gave us a great show! Even the sloth moved for us & they don’t do much moving, they mainly sleep! Lol! Thank you Indy Zoo you rank top on our list of zoo’s & it’s right here in Indiana!
Joe Marusak
This is a great zoo! It is so good we became members. The habitats are large and natural, and the staff plainly loves their wards.Go to the Dolphin presentation. Go into the ocean section. It gives most aquariums a run for the money.
Sindy Love
This so is Amazing! A must stop if you're visiting Indy. There's so much to see and do. I would recommend getting the total adventure pack so you can have access to all the rides and the extras like feeding the Giraffes, which was our favorite part.
They also have a beautiful garden, and an aquarium. There's a cafe for a lunch break and a playground by the cafe.
Emily Ayasha
I wish I could work here!
I think how the whole zoo is setup is fantastic.
They have a great facility.
Whatever my daughter enjoys and keeps her entertained, I'm all about.
The dolphin show is great, and it is fun to watch underground even if you can't get a seat in the stands
The carousel and other kid attractions are great. The play area is nice too, although I wish it was covered.
On a hot sunny day it gets to be a little much for the kids. It should be shaded.
The face painting they have there are cute too, but a little expensive.
All the food I've tried is great and I like how there are different selections at every stand.
Gift shop is also awesome! We get a souvenir every time we go.
I'd like to attend more events they have at the zoo since they all seem fun. I've only ever bee to ZooBoo and it was great.
Matthew Rodgers
Don't bother buying tickets ahead of time because there are no refunds- even if the zoo closes without warning the day you plant to go! A cute zoo with well-maintained gardens.
Alex Rittenhouse
Our family had a pretty great time. Due to the pandemic they are appropriately allowing only certain amount of participants in at a time. You need to choose a time phrame to enter. If you're early you have to wait in your car or head over to the butterfly planetarium which is adorable. The lines to get into the panguins, dolphins, sloths, and giraffes were unfortunately so long we didn't even wait for them. Thats my only negative experience. All in all it was a great experience. Masks are required to enter. We saw plenty of people outside without them but employees were telling people to put theirs back on.
Taylor Williams
A surprisingly great zoo. The price of admission is rather steep, but if you buy your tickets early enough and on a less popular day then you can get a better deal. If you are a Purdue student then search for discount tickets online. Be sure to check out the butterfly garden while you are there (admission is included with your zoo ticket). Find the entrance is before you get to the ticket booth for the zoo--on the right.

This is a wonderful zoo. We were lucky enough to have a couple extra hours before our flight out of Indianapolis and went to the zoo, which is about 15 minutes away from the airport. So glad we did. It was decorated with millions of lights. The animals were out and about. The dolphins are magnificent. They have WALRUSES!!! Which is super rare. I'd love to go back in the summer and see more. Also, during the holidays, there is a Santa and you get a time slot for free when you arrive. We didn't get to see him because of our flight time constraints. I'm sure it would have been lovely.
This zoo is a gem.
Clairese Whisler
I took my little one that I nanny for to the zoo and we had a really fun time. I think their mask guidelines are pretty good . We really enjoyed the dolphin show as well.
Cherrita
Expect to stay for 3-4 hours (if including the Butterfly Garden)! Traveled here for spring break, and we had such a great time at the zoo! There was an event going on as well as locals just starting spring break, so it was jammed pack with families and decorations! The price was a little bit on the heavy side, but the zoo took us about 3 hours to walk as well as taking our time to really take in all the zoo has to offer.
I didn't buy any food or drinks, so I can't speak on that behalf. However, I did purchase tickets to ride the train and it was kind of a disappointment. I wish I was told what I was getting myself into before purchasing. I thought we'd see animals from the train and stuff like that, but it was just a 5-10 minute train ride to Behind-The-Scenes, so you're taken back to where they take care of the animals and stuff, but even then it's all just buildings and cars. There was some sort of speaker giving you details of what you're seeing, but the cart we were sitting on, the speakers weren't working so it was... kind of an unfortunate experience. Ticket was only $3/person so I guess. Even as we came out of the train, a lady behind me with children said, "Well that was a waste of 12 dollars."
But! I took lots of great photos! Would come again, especially since the butterfly garden is connected to the zoo, would have liked to spent more time there before we were forced to leave.

So much fun . Take a walk by the canal

We had a great time at the zoo. Got in at 2:30 and were able to see giraffes, lion, rhino, tigers, and feed the periquetes ($3), got on the train ($3) and carousel ($3). Face panting was ok but it would be nice to post prices the paintings so you know how much they are, $ 19.50 for a face painting is on the expensive range for me but had already lost 40 minutes waiting in line with an anxious little one.
My favorite part was the gazelles and the cheetahs. The animals are clean and well kept.
Shannon Johnston
The animals were so lively. The lion was making some serious noise.
The layout is perfect. The dolphin 🐬 show was pretty neat too. We even got to touch a shark and stingray. …
Theodore Whitecotton
I love this zoo it's clean and the staff is very informative. There are so many things to do and so many different animals to see. Be ready to spend a few hours there! There is also a botanical garden that is beautiful. I recommend this zoo if your visiting Indianapolis.
Travis77
The zoo was very clean, and I feel the entire staff was handling the virus well and appropriately. A rare plus of the virus was it being relatively uncrowded, and people were spread out for the most part. Will be back!
Josh Keyes
A great zoo. If you're ever in Indianapolis and have kids you should check this place out. It's got so many amazing areas. There are so many animals it's crazy. It's the best zoo that I've ever been to. You should also try to see the dolphin show. They ask you what show time you want when you enter.
Jb Shah
Beautiful place for family & animal lovers. It was very good experience. Yeah, have to wait a little, new visitor but now experienced. Take ticket from entry point & Reserve seat for dolphin show. White garden is also beautiful. We got stamp on hand for going out of zoo for snacks. Take a all adventure package to enjoy all unlimited Rides and priority access.
Justice & Cassie Borst
This place was fun, alot of animals, it was so busy we didn't have time to see the desert part or the ocean part but maybe next time, friendly staff also, I would give this place 5 stars only reason I did not is it just is sad to see animals locked up and not in there natural setting.
Thomas Bozly
Had an amazing day at the zoo. It was cool in the 50s so the animals were nice and active. The walrus was supper friendly and played with us. Being a wensday the crowd was low so we took our time and enjoyed the animals. The race the cheetah was my favorite part. They really run buy the window. I would have totally been a goner if we was out on the plains. Tigers were up and about. Had lots of fun.
Tanya Wilson
It was super hot this day but being pregnant and walking through the adventures with the husband and kids was fun. The staff was very helpful everywhere. Can't wait to go again so I can enjoy the dolphin show!
IxXOutlawedXxI [Lgnd]
Had a great time with the kiddos at the indy zoo boo. They had it spread through the whole zoo and a trick or treat street near the shops and a DJ playing boo music for the kids to dance to and all the animals were out and about we enjoyed ourselfs very much I recommend this to anyone with children 13 and under especially the younger kids.
Jack McAllister
Awesome zoo! Enclosures were well thought out. It feels like you are right there with them. Lots of open air between you and the animals while feeling safe. Loved the desert exhibit with the turtles and lizards cohabitating together. Also the butterfly conservatory was a plant fanatics dream!
Faith Abbott
Such an amazing experience. Get the TAP and then you can feed animals and ride the rides as many times as you want. All the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Such an amazing day trip.
Angela Fussell
My grandson had a great time he got to see animals that we don't have at our zoo at home. It was a very cold day so we are planning to go back so we can explore the zoo when all the animals are out. The staff was very nice and informative willing to answer questions and tell you about their animals friends.
Julie Kennedy
Pretty much had the zoo to ourselves due to colder temps and high winds. We still had a ton of fun. Very much enjoyed the animals that were outside and all the indoor exhibits.
Julie Rhonemus
This year we purchased a Grandparent Plus Pass for our family and so our first visit was for Mother's Day weekend. The zoo had special exhibits about the animals and their babies. Mothers could get their face painted for free (which I did!!!). We had a very good time and so did the grandkids....our youngest grandson loved the orangutans!!! We didn't get there early enough to get tickets to one of the 2 dolphin shows, so we will plan to get there earlier next time. We love the Indy Zoo and plan to go as much as possible with our pass.
Leigh Ann Henline
Great zoo! Perfect size, not too big and not too crowded. The dolphin show was fun! We also enjoyed feeding the birds and petting the sharks!!
Nan Van
Really enjoyed our visit to Christmas at the Zoo! Many many many spectacular lights made the grounds gorgeous, and it was fun seeing the animals at night -- the tiger prowling, the penguins, watching kids trying to pet the sharks in the waters building, etc. Purchased the hot chocolate and hot cider and snacks that were available for sale as well. Fun evening!
TheArtsyWeirdo
Had an absolutely wonderful time here. The dolphin place is PHENOMENAL. The new orangutan exhibit and ride is amazing. Only thing that's a bummer is the train. All ya see are a few glimpses of back pens and maintenance. I honestly would keep my money the next time I'm in town. Otherwise AMAZING zoo!
Patrick Hannon
Glad to see the Kangaroo exhibit is open!!
Summer Case
The zoo is really nice. The prices however are a bit high for what they have.
We looked up prices yesterday and it said that prices were $20 for adults and $18 for kids however today at the gate they were $28 for adults.
They change their prices according to if they think they will be busy or not.
That aspect I do not like.
However the Dolphins and the dolphin show was awesome.
There are sharks you can touch, and they even have bears.
A little sad they didn’t have any foxes though as foxes are my daughters favorite animal.
Kalamity Deschain
My mom and nephew came into town. It was colder than expected so some animals were inside, nice and toasty. It was great to get to see the zoo not busy, we definitely are planning for a trip back when it's warm and all animals are out. Zoo is pretty easy to find your way around. The dolphin show is worth a stop, make sure to reserve your spot. Jenna did an amazing job this past weekend with their new message about using less plastics. It was so awesome to hear that message and see the tender relationship between Indy and Jenna. Parking is easy and ample, costs $8 to park. Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 or so for kids. Lots of food options when it's warmer outside. Cafe on the Commons was good, but opt for getting sandwiches only and bring your own chips/drinks. A $7 sandwich goes to $13 with fries and a drink. I didn't mind though because I know it supports the zoo, it was just unexpected. Food is good, though! No lids or straws on cups which is a nice way to reduce plastics. Lots of ways to recycle at the zoo. The walruses are very friendly and hung out by the glass and "danced" for us. Giraffe feedings and flamingo feedings would be a cool activity to do when its warm again. Staff is friendly.
Rick Holmes
Would rate it 5 but lots of construction going on. A few exhibits we were looking guard to weren't available.
Jack Phillips
What a fun zoo. The dolphin show along with the feeding times and animal chats make this a very experiential zoo. Our family has enjoyed the lion chats. The new snake house is very easy to spot the snakes and learn about them.
Gigi S.
Loved the exhibits and the emphasis on conservation. The penguin exhibit where you can see the penguins swim from one side to the other through glass floors was fantastic. Great little zoo for an adequate price.
Nicklaus Anderson
I loved the zoo. They give their animals lots of space , and there are many animals to see. Overall, I had a great trip and would go again. The most disappointing thing there (which isn't really a disappointment) is that there were leaf decals on the glass where the red pandas were, so they were hard to see. They had almost every animal, split up into sections- Forest (mixed), marine, Australia and Africa, and other land animals, and desert. Everything was easily walkable, and they even had an area for petting the dogsharks (for kids). Again, a great trip that is worth your time.
Cali Lewis
Got to spend most of the day here on a Saturday fairly busy and if you want to see the dolphin show, show up in the morning or before noon. I had a amazing time i would highly recomend. Animals were active but its a wait your turn to look kinda day. But totally worth it.
Katie Oskay
It's worth it to buy a membership, we probably go every other weekend when the weather is nice so it ends up paying for itself. Gotten to do some really cool stuff for free though - pet the elephant during bath time, fed the flamingos at the flamingle mingle, pet the kangaroos, etc. We love seeing all the decorations they do for holidays (zoo boo, Christmas lights, etc). IndyZoo also does a ton of conservation work which I really like hearing about. They offer a lot of behind the scenes experiences too which is so neat - meet a rhino, sloth, aardvarks, etc - except they are not cheap but would definitely make a fun gift to save up for. Food & alcohol are stupidly overpriced, but you can to bring in your own food.

Is pretty fantastic!!!!! We live in St Louis so we go to the st. Louis Zoo all the time. I've been to the San Antonio Zoo the zoo in New Orleans and the Indianapolis Zoo and the Indianapolis Zoo is the only thing that compares to St Louis and may even be better. I think it was a little under 250 for four of us to get in for everything. That came with a dolphin show which was fantastic no others who I've been to has that it also came with feeding giraffes and a pretty amazing ride that you got into that picks you up like a roller coaster and rode you around the entire park while at the same time giving you the opportunity to see orangutans and other Apes climb out of their cages which was pretty fantastic.
N Alex Young
This was my first trip to Indianapolis and I thought the zoo was going to be bigger, but it wasn't as big a zoo as I expected. There was a line to get into several of the exhibits so that was disappointing. I don't want to have to wait in line at a zoo to go see the animals.
Samantha Smith (Sammie)
Love the different variety of animals they have. Plus it seemed like they were all well taken care off. The place was surprisingly clean. The only thing I didn't like was the price for a drink. $2.50 for a can of pop is really expensive. Also I wld advise against the thrift stores. They were really pricey as well. Other than that it was great!
kristyn whitican
My husband and I were in Indianapolis during Christmas. We went to the zoo it was $40 for two adults including parking. They did tell us that the African warm-weather animals were not going to be exhibited due to the cold weather. They also said that we could come back at 5 p.m. for the Christmas Village light show but we were going to be leaving anyways. They did have some good exhibits like the orangutans, the Penguins, and the sea lions. We were not able to see the dolphins along with all the warm-weather animals like the Lions, elephants, giraffes, monkeys. I would not recommend going to the zoo in the winter time unless you're going just for the Santa Christmas celebration.
Julie Moore
Great exhibits with very lively and talkative animals. All habitats looked well-kept and the animals seemed happy. It's a large enough zoo where you feel you've seen a wide variety but not so big that you miss something in the time you're there. Food was good and a decent price. Dolphin show was included in the price for a ticket and was fun to watch. Overall, we would go again if back in Indianapolis.
Lucius P. Conner
I did enjoy my time at the Indianapolis Zoo. It may not be the largest Zoo in the area or even the nicest but it is a great place to hang out and have fun with the family. It's very baby friendly and has a great way to display the animals. None of which look miserable and ill cared for. The staff truly loves the animals here and it shows. I've enjoyed it on multiple occasions. It has a great Dolphin show and a new Orangutan exhibit!
Kimberly Gooden
The best show ever was the All Star Dog Challenge! It was great the trivia questions at the very beginning of the show, it got the children all fired up. The trainer was outstanding and shared a great passion for adoption of shelter dogs that are rescued, fantastic show! Worth every minute!! The Walrus is do interactive with the children, we had a ball!! #localguides
Dan Schmidt
Wonderful day at the zoo! Never disappoints and is always a blast! Can never go wrong with this amazing zoo! Very Enjoyable! A little pricey but if you come enough and get a membership it can be worth while!
Rachel Krueger-Birman
My husband and I went to the Indianapolis Zoo with another couple while visiting the city over the Summer. It is not overwhelmingly huge but is still a good size with lots of animals to see. We also made it in time for the Dolphin Show which was actually one of the better ones I have seen. The park was not very crowded when we went on Sunday. We also paid $3 a person to ride the skylift that goes over the top of the park. The line was a bit of a wait (almost half an hour) but the breeze once we got up there felt nice and there were some alright views (mostly tops of buildings though). You can walk the entire park in a few hours and there is a water area for kids to play. The only thing we missed was the Butterfly exhibit which closes earlier than the rest of the park and is located outside of the main entrance. We were so sad we missed it, so make sure you go do that first! Overall, super fun way to spend a day.
Emily Brad
Amazing zoo! Lots of cool animals and exhibits. Clean too! Loved the orangatan exhibit and elephants the most.
Food leaves a lot to be desired though. Recommend packing food and eating in parking lot or eating before or after trip to zoo.
Christina Timko
Always an adventure...we are members and we're always visiting year round. Christmas time is our favorite with all the lights and Holiday festivities for everyone. With the new grants, we can't wait to see the new additions and exhibits.
nicole Fuller-Douglas
We spent 7.5 hours at the zoo. We did almost everything. We didn't do the giraffe feed because the line was so long or the gazebo ride, it was closed. We traveled 4hrs to visit. It was fantastic. We had 3 kids, ages 7-11, and two adults. We would come back again no question. It's a must visit if you go to Indianapolis.
Luke
To my surprise the flamingo encounter, which is free, was one of the highlights. Also the orangutan habitat is quite amazing. We got to speak with several scientist doing active research which was pretty awesome. The miniature aquarium inside the zoo has gone down in quality
Samantha Trissler
Great zoo. Many animals.
Ginger Ann
Lots of fun and activities. We had a great time. The butterfly exibit was beautiful. It has an upper level and if full of plants and flowers. It also has a fish pond inside. It was also very fun to get to pet the sharks :) The dolphin exhibit was amazing to walk under them swimming.
Hilary Cain
pretty good experience we have a membership but the food was very pricey drinks were very expensive and got their very early and couldn't get into the dolphin show but overall very happy. Loved the Tempo elephant exibut. We got so close the elephants. I cried.
John Kurton
A nice evening out at the zoo the weather was perfect but the lights were disappointing and most of the animals were nowhere to be seen.
It was also quite crowded with long lines
The ouanatangs were very cute and the tigers were impressive.
Cecilia Renteria
Amazing. It has changed so much from the first time I went 7 years ago. Love it and highly recommend. We bought the year round family membership plus 2, so our kids can take their friends with them....also flower and butterfly garden, what else do you need😁 …
Morgan Carrillo
Loved the Indianapolis Zoo! It's so nice that one of the best zoos is in Indiana. It's not as large as some other metropolitan zoos but it has a lot of wildlife exhibits and all the big zoo animals you love to see (tigers, lions, and bears oh my!). The smaller size makes it easier to get around and see all the animals in a reasonable amount of time, if you wanted to move quickly (we're usually working against a naptime schedule). It's also a very interactive zoo! Lots of animals to feed and the shark touching exhibit is a favorite for our boys. The dolphin show and butterfly exhibit are also free. There is a splash pad in the summer and playground for kids. There are several rides you can purchase tickets for and tickets never expire if you don't use them all in one visit. The cost of everything can be a lot between parking (free only for members), entrance fees, food (if you don't pack a lunch), extras (like animal fees and rides). A membership would be necessary and the most cost effective for a larger family. I wish the museum and zoo would team up and offer a combination discounted membership to both places. Overall we always have a wonderful day every time we visit.
Luke McLaughlin
Pleasantly surprised by how many animals were out on this very chilly March day. Dolphin show and Orangutan classes were awesome. Super clean as well, which I appreciate. Can't wait to go back to see all the exotic birds!
Ardent Caelum
I love this place ❤️
They take amazing care of their animals, and are wonderful with their conservation efforts and make sure it's a big part of their mission!
As well they make recycling a huge part of taking care of the zoo itself and the world outside.
Betsy Anders
Would be 5 stars but expensive!!! $7 to park, for a 2, 4 and adult it was $50 to get in and a$9 for tickets for a ride (for 3 to ride per ride) and $10 for stroller rental. So if you bring your own stroller and buy a ride pass it might be better but it was a spontaneous trip for us and we paid for it. That being said I love, love the fact it has a splash pad to cool off kids so bring a change of clothes. The rides are neat even a mini coaster. The animal exhibits are nice and I love the white river gardens which is free with zoo admission purchase.
Karen Crawford
The lighting was spectacular this year. Made a wonderful memory with my wonderful family. Thank you, Indianapolis Zoo!
Tiffanie B.
Brought my son and a few friends to the zoo, I bought the wristband passes for everyone and it was well worth it. We were able to feed all the animals, flamingos, giraffes, budgies and another bird I can't remember the name. We did the carousel ride and the train ride. I was a little disappointed the Sky ride was down maintenance and that the roller coaster was closed as well. Don't visit this zoo on a Monday, I guess that's the scheduled maintenance day. I planned our trip to Indy based on coming to this zoo. I chose Monday because I didnt think it would be such a busy day but upset again about the sky ride and coaster being down. Great zoo otherwise, the kids enjoyed it and I loved it as well!

Amazing zoo, my family love it here

And the animals where just as good.
Cant wait to come back here and enjoy it again. We also saw a baby monkey 7 weeks old it was just amazing

It's a beautiful place, the staff is excellent, but the prices for food are very high. One cup of coffee costs $3,60 and really is more water than coffee. In the peak hours the cafeteria is full and the service delayed

Love the layout. A great assortment of animals. Want to go back to take my other son. Friendly staff, good food, a lots to enjoy for all ages. The dolphin show is fun and informative. Love the environmental emphasis as well. Wish other businesses would follow their lead.

The Indianapolis Zoo is a really great zoo. We got to see many animals that aren't at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake. Our kids thought that was pretty cool.
One of the favorites was the dolphin show, which requires free tickets and were given to us as we entered the zoo. It's not a huge zoo, so you can do everything in a few hours, but you could take longer if you wanted.

Very well kept and clean. My husband and I spent the entire day here. The train ride is a bit of a waste though. Other than that, we had a great time!

We're WILD about our Indianapolis Zoo!!!
Lots of fun & unique animals, feeding & photo opportunities, rides, indoor & outdoor adventures, playground, sun & shade!!!! Even the food is pretty good, with some healthy options. Only reason for 4 stars is the cost :( A little pricey... but seeing our grands so happy & excited was worth it! We bought an annual membership 😊

Beautiful place, friendly staff, lots to do and explore!!! You can even touch a dolphin for a little bit more $$$!! But trust me it's well worth it!
INDIANA JONES
Zoo was nice, clean. Price is fair. The only thing I feel was wrong was the bears and orangutans seemed sad with very High aniexty. Seemed very sad. I'm a empath and it hurt when I saw them. The Walrus exhibit was closed also.

Fun little zoo. You can see animals closer. Also free dolphin show that was cool. You an buy tickets to feed animals and rides in the zoo.

The Indianapolis Zoo is amazingly beautiful with gorgeous animals and sites. My only issue is this... I am a member, & that costs a lot of $. Even general admission is quite a bit. However, being a member should cover everything at the zoo & it doesn't. Not only does all of the food cost an outrageous amount. Heaven forbid you just need a quick snack or drink, or you like the photo they took at the entrance, but my membership does not cover the zoo train, the zoo ride, and many other zoo activities. These aren't special days or anything. These are everyday parts of the zoo that my kiddos see every single time we go there & want to do, & I always take my kids, their cousin, my nephew and my husband...so 7 people I would have to pay for to ride the train, carousel or zoo air ride when I am a member who also buys food there. I understand the money is to keep the zoo open. However, the membership should cover the full zoo with the exception of food, photos, and the gift shop. If it doesn't then that should be made very clear prior to purchase. I had a lot of really disappointed kiddos when I said they cld ride the ride only to find out I wld have to spend an additional $25 when I had just spent $32 on 1 SNACK per person. Please consider this.

We had a fabulous time. My 7 year old LOVED the shark wall and the butterfly garden (they were magnetized to him) and my 3 year old loved the walrus the most! This zoo is smaller than some that I've been to hit you can tell they have invested into the space they have and the animals they have are great!

My husband and I went yesterday it was free for Martin Luther King Jr birthday. All you had to do was bring non perishable food. The only thing open was enclosed ones but we enjoyed seeing all the different animals I really loved seeing all of them. But we enjoyed the dolphin show. That was our first time there. We are definitely going back when they have the whole zoo open. Thank you for a wonderful time we love the zoo. It was a great turnout yesterday.

This is a wonderful zoo! We discovered a small toddler play area tucked near the flamingos. The dolphin show is fantastic. If you don't make the show, there is a good sized underwater viewing area where you can see the dolphins swimming around. Tons of fun, lots to explore and learn about.

Such a great zoo, very nice and family friendly place, we always have fun there. The tickets price are not that great BUT the annual membership well worth the price👌 …

The day we went to the zoo, we had a lot of rain. Don't let rain stop you from enjoying this awesome zoo though! There are lots of exibits inside like the orangutan exhibit, aquariums, and desert buildings. Very well laid out w lots to see.

The Indy Zoo! Who doesn't LOVE the Zoo? Smaller property along White River. They have wonderful displays and viewing areas. Dolphin shows and close ups with a sloth.....(they sleep20 plus hours a day?) Harvey was fast asleep! Don't miss the butterfly garden and outside garden areas 😲 $$$ Check website for daily admission considerations😃 …

Extraordinary zoo full of animal and botanical life! We love the gorgeous walkways through the zoo, the dolphin show, the train, and the dog show. The orangutan exhibit is absolutely amazing! The zoo hosts great events around Halloween and during the holidays. Before you go, buy tickets online - it's much cheaper! Still pretty pricey even with online pricing, so check their day-by-day pricing to find the best deals.

Looking for a family fun, accessible Christmas light show? The Indianapolis Zoo has just that. Lights, Santa's Village, meet Santa, reindeer, and many other loved zoo animals. Reserve your time online. They are accessible and maintaining good COVID guidelines. Highly recommended!

Went on a colder day. High of 48. Some animals like girraffes, elephants and monkeys weren't out but all other animals were out and super active. The bears (who you are lucky to catch a glimpse of there back when they are sleeping on most hot days) were out wondering around and playing, all lions were awake and walking around, tigers very active, sea lions were awesome to watch. Love the dolphin exhibit and show. Orangutan center was really amazing. Definatly will visit again!

Great Zoo! Awesome opportunities to see animals. The dolphin show is very worthwhile. The Zoo is easy to get around with strollers, wheelchairs, etc. For the most part, the animals are easy to see in their exhibits, so you will not be disappointed. Moreover the grounds are beautiful to walk through – they have lots of flowers and plants and things. The ocean exhibit is another one you won't want to miss – lots of very cool fish to see. Overall, very friendly staff, fun and worthwhile! 5- stars!

Zoo boo was pretty cool for the age group not quite what expected but the members were dressed up in amazing costumes and the zoo in general is always nice.

As far as zoos go, this was a pretty good experience. The animals all seemed to be well cared for, had decent amounts of room, and were all easily accessible by two adults and two kids. The dolphin show was entertaining and informative.
Restrooms and drinking fountains are plentiful and close by pretty much anywhere in the park. The food we had for lunch was good. All in all, it was a worthwhile stop for a day.

Our kids love the zoo! It’s very family friendly, the dolphin show is a must, and we love the little playground. Only suggestion I have is to maybe add some shaded canopies in the viewing stations at the back of the zoo. Otherwise, we love it!
Kathy Henderson
We love going to the Indianapolis Zoo. I really recommend getting the family pass. With it we don't feel as much pressure to see everything during one trip. Plus there are fun events year round like Zoo Boo and Christmas at the Zoo.
Carla Knapp
There’s always something new or different that makes every zoo visit truly unique. My favorite times of year to go are in the late winter and early spring. With fewer people there, the attention you receive from the animals is much more personal. I enjoy taking my time at each exhibit to watch and then read more about the animals. Then you can learn even more if you go to the animal chats and talk with the zookeepers. They’re always super helpful and you can really tell how much they love their animals! All of those things add up and make this one of the very best zoos I’ve ever visited.

The Indianapolis Zoo never fails to fascinate me! The grounds are well-kept, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the animals all look happy and content. You should go out and visit, because you won't be disappointed.

Something for everyone, dolphin show included with entrance fee, there's also a parking fee. Get real close to many animals, compared to other zoos. My pictures will tell...
Rachel Wakefield
Fun experience. A lot of the animals were not out most only had one animal out. Kind of a bummer. But a fun experience your children will surely enjoy. Buy your tickets ahead of time and you get a discount. The train only shows the back side of the zoo. No animals to be seen. The dolphin show is cute. Get there early on the weekend or you won't get a seat.
