Reviews of The Liljestrand House
If you love Mid-century design and architecture tours be sure to visit the Liljestrand house!! The house itself is phenomenal, but the ladies who give the tour made our experience 100 times better. Def one of the best architecture tours I’ve been to. Even if you are not into mid-century design you’re sure to love the property and the breath taking views.
Wow! When we booked a tour to this house I couldn't have possibly imagined the rich history and inclusive tour we would experience! We recieved a one on one tour with our group and an amazing tour guide who was a personal friend of the owners of the home through the time they lived there. The tour guide was Extremely passionate and knowledgeable and delivered one of the best tours I've ever experienced with tons of first hand knowledge of the architecture and history!
The tour of the Liljestrand House is about as good as it gets. The size of the group was perfect, the pace was appropriate and generous, and the video hosted by Bob Liljestrand provided a lot of personal context in the overall story of both the architect and client. The home? Simply incredible. The foundation has done an amazing job of protecting, preserving and honoring the Ossipoff masterwork, as well as providing the Liljestrand's collaboration throughout. It's like being in a sailing vessel, where every space large and small is considered and optimized. It is a beautiful symphony of light, material, flow, circulation and innovation. It's a must see!!
Amazing opportunity to visit this Mid-Century masterpiece with every detail thought out and curated for the owners. I only wish I had asked to go down to the pool or out on the deck for some amazing photos. A great experience especially if you appreciate design, but really a fun and educational experience for anyone.
The balance between Polynesian, Mid-century Modern, Japanese, and African aesthetics was incredibly beautiful and special.
Great little historical house with a very nice tour. Excellent backdrop for some nice photos. Loved it!
We enjoyed our tour very much. I highly recommend it. If you appreciate mid century design and architecture, this is a must see. It was so fascinating to learn about the family, architect, and history of the home. The views are spectacular, so bring a camera. Linda, our docent, was friendly and welcoming. If you book a tour, make sure to read the directions carefully. Bring socks if you don't like being barefoot because you'll have to remove your shoes when walking through the house. Also, prep yourself beforehand with bug repellant because the home is located in a rainforest.
Wonderful tour and an architectural gem.
Driving up Tantalus to this home takes you to another world. Stunning views and fascinating architecture. It is a must to see this historic home.
This famous house hidden in the hills above Honolulu is definitely worth the trouble to visit. The drive way to the house was inconspicuous and we drove right past it. Once you were inside it was a real treat. The grounds were beautiful and the house intelligently designed. The art works were beautiful. The views were breathtaking. The guide was fantastic.
Stunning house... Every aspect is so well thought out and absolutely breathtaking. If you appreciate architecture and art, this is for you. The photos don't do it justice. There is a feeling as your eye guides you thorough the house and your feet follow. From how the sun beams through and creates perfect shadows to the precise views and clever angles used.
The tour was super high quality and the docent was fabulous. I would really recommend this for anyone who has any interest in design, creativity, or architecture
The amazing architecture of oahu's iconic mid century modern residence the liljestrandhouse is only rivaled by the heartwarming story of the liljestrand family's life long friendship with architect vladmir ossipoff. the elder liljestrands were swedes who grew up in china, while the architect was a russian raised in tokyo. together, they created an intricate and stunning work that is as much art as architecture, combining the language of modernism with surrounding island and asian influences. the opportunity to tour the home privately was a highlight of this trip to the hawaiian islands, and is quite possibly the most inspiring architectural home tour i have ever had due to the home's originality down to the very personal effects of it's original occupants. it is an utter time capsule, reminding us that good taste is enduring, and that things made well can last more than a lifetime. the liljestrands raised 4 amazing children in this house, and lived there until their passing for nearly 5 decades. a guest suite is currently occupied by their eldest son bob and his wife, who have become lifelong stewards of the property so that it's legacy can live on for generations to come. thank you to friend Raj George, cousin Karen Ng, and the liljestrand house foundation for the experience.
Catered for a wedding. Beautiful venue if no rain.
An intimate look at the home, the owners and the architect by someone who knew them. A truly special tour
Gorgeous house and stunning view. Feels like stepping into an episode of Magnum P.I.

Super schönes Haus und tolle Führung.
Even if you are not good at English, you can still participate in an architectural tour that is worth seeing. A copy of the explanation in Japanese is also available. However, please note that the entrance is difficult to understand anyway. Anyway, I recommend it to anyone interested in architecture.
It's a really great place I love. Weddings here are the best
