Reviews of Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo is one of the best zoos I've been to. I would give it third place - behind only San Diego & the National Zoo. It's a very big zoo for being right in the city, with easy access from downtown and 25. Admission is incredibly reasonable and is a better deal than the aquarium. The enclosures are great and the animals seem very well cared for. We did a "behind the scenes" with birds of pretty and it was excellent! Tons of great information the keepers were amazing and clearly loved the animals they work with.
100% recommend it!

our first time experiencing the Denver Zoo light show. the glasses at check in are fun! optional spiked drink options also fun! there are zoo employees on the path & they're quite helpful & friendly. there are buildings you can go in to warm up. so many interesting zoo creatures that you can see while the others are resting. we will go again! do yourself a favor & go w fun young friends we did :)

We had a great time here. This zoo is much better than the Birmingham Zoo. I would rate the zoo five star, but several exhibits are closed for renovations. The elephant show was great. We were able to see one tiger. The other one was sleeping on a platform and only partially visible. We saw some lions, seals and sea lions. Our time was limited, so we did not see much else. If you need to leave and return the same day, then you can get your hand stamped and not have to pay to come back in on the same day.

It was hot but the animals were still out and about. There was a queue at the ticket kiosk so buy your ticket in advance. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There are lots of benches to rest along the way. Also, they have water fountains and misters. It's great for both adults and kids. The animals look like they are in good care.

First time doing the Denver Zoo light spectacular and it was absolutely remarkable. I love how they spread out different themes throughout the park ie: makes it look like you're walking through the ocean and another part like you're walking through the jungle. Over 1 million lights! Getting the glow pass and the zoo it all pass are great additions! The glow pass gives you 3-D glasses that are VERY fun & unique to view all the lights! That pass also gives you a nice insulated souvenir cup. The Zoo it all pass gives you unlimited rides on the train, carousel and 4-D show which is perfect for families of all ages. Perfect seasonal fun for the entire family.

This was my first visit to the zoo other than Zoo Lights. It was easy to move around and it looks like they have some great improvements coming. We had an entry time in the morning so a lot of the animals were just lying around but as the day went on, they were more active. The hospital was so impressive. The prices were reasonable. My only complaint was we wanted to just get some drinks with ice but had to wait in the long line. It would be nice if they had a beverage line only since there was a place with a cash register and beverage machine that were not being used. Otherwise, everything was amazing.
Christopher Cox
Cooler weather seemed to have many of the animals inside. It also seemed to keep lost visitors from coming to the Zoo. Bird flu concerns had all the birds segregated. Despite all this, we were glad we came. It was a really nice visit with a variety of different animals. There was inside exhibits as well as outside ones. Staff were all nice and friendly and were more than happy to explain the characteristics and history of the different animals. That was awesome to hear and glad they have that option. I’d highly recommend going and I’d look forward to returning during warmer weather.

My sons both teen and toddler loved this place!! The train operates later at 1:30 so we weren't able to ride it because it would take too long. We loved all the animals. It is awesome that they have "hydration stations" for free water to keep everyone nice and hydrated. The carousel was beautiful and so much fun! I cannot wait for the flamingos to come into the zoo it will be a great addition.

I've been a zoo member for six years and a zoo volunteer for two years. I always enjoy my time at the zoo, even on snowy and cool days. You may not see every animal every time, but it's amazing the different animals and behaviors you do see depending on the time and temperature.
I highly recommend a zoo membership and timed tickets before the zoo opens to the general public. The cool mornings are great for the animals, especially Nikita the Amur tiger.
My daughter is too young to enjoy the animals but loves people watching every time we go.
Kathy
We went late in the day so many animals seemed to have gone out of their habitat and in to...well, where ever they go at night. It was a bummer that the birds were all quarantined, but we are 100% understanding of that. It was laid out nicely and the habitats were very nice, clean, and there were plenty of stimulating activities for the animals to enjoy.
Mandy Johns
This is my first time here and they are working on upgrading the zoo but it was still overall a good experience. The only closed exhibits were the birds because of the bird flu risk. I recommend bringing extra cold water as it is hot and there are very few shaded areas. You can bring food and drinks as long as you don’t bring glass. Also, download the free zoo app and you will have a map that you can reference throughout your visit.

This was by far one of my favorite zoos I have been to because the layout just makes sense. Very walkable and everything is close. Our visit was on the afternoon of 07/17/21. The staff was friendly. We stopped at a covered area to rest. Bring snacks and water bottles to refill to save money for the family. The walking baths were clean and the animals appeared to be well taken care of.
Cindy Minor
Great zoo with a very considerable amount of zoo worker and animal interaction which was so enjoyable. There were also several workers (or volunteers) around to help you get a better look at an animal. We rode the train and the carousel and bought all of our tickets online before we went. Waited in quick lines for both. Bathrooms seemed to be a bit spread out so keep that in mind and there was some mild construction that did not impact us at all.
Carsten Baumann
The zoo is a great spot to visit. Not only are the exhibits amazing and the animals entertaining, there is also good people watching. 😉 It is amazing how easy it is to log a couple of miles of walking while here. In the winter it is less crowded and some of the animals are more active, especially during the late afternoon feeding times.
David Choi
The Denver Zoo is large with many different exhibits and animals. Any animal you want to see can be seen here for the most part. There is a lot of activities to do here for all age ranges including train rides, typical zoo food, a large area to walk around in nice weather, and beer. The gift shop is well stocked as well. The zoo is also a quick drive away from downtown as well which is convenient for going out afterwards. During the winter time, they also do an event called Zoo Lights where they hang lights all around the zoo to give a unique experience. Overall, I think this is a well-run zoo that is a fun time every time I visit.

Zoo was really cool and well maintained. Volunteers loved their jobs and cared for the animals and sharing info. Lots of variety and a decent flow of exhibits. Only negatives I had were that the cafeteria food had small portions and the cashier charged me the wrong amount and didn't seem to care for their job. Really sad that the water loving Otter exhibit barely had enough water for him to get his toes wet but the neighboring Cat exhibit had enough to allow a full adult to swim. Besides that, all animals (except the Otter and Leopard) were active and looked happy.
Danika M
I have been to this zoo since I was a child. I love the changing habitats, but there are still originals that keep the memories alive. Their conservation efforts don't go unnoticed. I love the beer garden and all the special events they hold to raise awareness. We have a membership every year, Zoo Lights and the Halloween events are the best around.
Crystal Green-Braswell
This was an interesting experience! A visitor can tell that a great deal of love went into the design of this zoo. There is even a pet hospital that you can visit. Abby was there to assist with answering questions and providing information about animals who needed medical attention. She was so knowledgeable and willing to share stories with us about every animal me asked about. To be honest each person we stopped and asked foe help was extremely helpful! I will definitely be back during warmer months!
Orly Liba
The zoo is nice, but I've been to better ones. We enjoyed the tropical area and seeing the animals. The food options are very limited and bad value with super slow lines. The animal demonstration included just feeding the elephants. That said we spent the whole day there and overall had a nice time.
Sivaramakrishnan Vaidyanathan
Really enjoyed this zoo. It was compact, walkable and had a wide range of species. Staff was friendly, ticket rates were reasonable ($15 for adults).
Located near Denver city park, it’s a short 5 min walk from the interesting musuem of science and nature which is yet another worthwhile attraction in this area. There’s ample parking here if you are renting a car, otherwise it’s pretty accessible via ride-based apps as well.
They have a number of lions and penguins greeting you as you enter and then a plenitude of primates likes orangutans, chimpanzees and gorillas waving at you from their large enclosures. Animals are well looked after here like in other zoos in LA, Oakland and San Diego and have a good amount of space to wander about so let your conscience not bother you for indulging at their price. They have a fascinating selection of reptiles (snakes) and fish in their indoor aquarium. Definitely recommend it.
Katti Evans
We haven't been here in about a year and so much has changed! It was a great zoo before, but even better now. Plan to spend quite some time there. My daughter and I were just there for two hours and didn't get to see everything! It got too close to closing time lol. Will go earlier next time (went at 230 on a Saturday). The exhibits the animals are staying in are amazing. I was especially impressed with the elephant and giraffe houses. The way the place is set up and designed is awesome. And you can tell the care takers are really great and take loving care of their animals.
Random tips: We took our own water bottles. There are water bottle filling stations throughout the zoo so you don't have to purchase drinks if you don't want to. There is a water spray station for the kiddos if they get too hot. Some of the indoors exhibits are also air conditioned. Lots of places to rest or just observe the animals. I will say parking is tight when it's busy, so if you make a reservation, give yourself plenty of time to find parking. The garage is free and has four levels, elevators take a minute, walk the stairs if you're trying to get to the entrance for a reservation. City Park is also right next to the zoo and has an awesome play ground and places to picnic. Masks are not required, but some guests do wear them. I wore one because I'm high risk and was fine. Can't wait to go back! Hope the avian bird flu passes soon so the birds can come out, but gotta keep all the animals safe ❤️.
*Our passes were free through Denver Public Library. You have to make the reservations ahead of time online. I believe the prices are $20 for adults and $15 for kids 3 - 11, otherwise. It's worth it!
Mallory
The zoo was really nice! I went on a day when the weather wasn't that great (which is my fault) so a lot of the animals were kind of hiding and what not. They have a good selection of animals which for the most part look super content. They have some parts under construction and the birds were all taken in for their own safety, so I feel like I didn't get the full experience, but I would love to go back and a day where everything is normal and it's nice out.
Abdulaziz
You'll enjoy your time in the zoo. It is great but not the best in Colorado in my opinion. The one in Colorado Springs are better organized. Spare a minimum of two hours to enjoy the zoo sections.
Buy your tickets online in advance to avoid the wait. It costs $20 per an adult.
Steven Gallegos
This is a wonderful Zoo and well worth the price. Lots of space, lots of animals, lots of fun 🤩 Free parking, plenty of food fenders, fun for the kids. Wide variety of souvenirs and gifts. So happy I finally got a chance to visit 😃

We had a great time at the Denver Zoo. We've lived here for more than five years, and this was our first time going. The zoo is much bigger than we had originally thought. They have a lot of animals, and it was pretty clean. There was a good amount of parking when we arrived at 10 in the morning, and parking was free. I recommend buying tickets in advance, so they can scan them at the entrance, and I recommend downloading the app. We didn't find out about the app until it was fairly late in our visit, and we may have missed some animals. We spent somewhere between two and three hours in the zoo (but could have been there longer if it wasn't so hot out); it was a fun day!
Rick Little
Really enjoyed the zoo lights at night event. Easy access to the park and not terribly crowded so it's easy to move around and see all the lights. Don't go expecting to see the zoo animals as most of them are sleeping, but there are still a few great displays to see, especially the reptile display. The glasses you can get make all the lights look like stars.
Steve Manney
This place was cool. You can bring in your own food and drink which I highly suggest doing. The animals looked like they were taken care of. It was hot the day we went and they had misters misting to cool people down. Great family experience. It can take a few hours too see everything so plan an entire day.
Rachel Koepping
The Denver Zoo is always awesome! Family friendly, educational, & you can see how much the animals are cared for. I also love that they also work with CO SNAP so that the whole community has access regardless of financial circumstances.
Zoo lights is easily one of my favorite events & is a great show. The animal shows are super cool too! If you have the time, Denver Zoo is a must see.
Roseanne Coggan
I liked my visit to the Zoo on my birthday February 19th. and had a good time but there were way too many people there after the city dropped the mask mandate that didn't wear masks in fully crowded indoor areas and I felt uncomfortable in those spaces even with a mask so I didn't stay inside more than a few minutes. I did however see a few people and some children with masks. I didn't get to see any gorillas just 2 orangutan youngsters and no adults which seemed a bit odd to me as it hit 60 degrees. All in all it was a good day at the Zoo.
Jewell Eich
I believe I picked a bad time of the day to go. Many of the animals were inactive or asleep. I felt the cost to get in was very good and the variety of animals was pretty good though I did kind of expect it to be a bit more spectacular since it is a zoo in a major city. The signage around was very helpful and informative, many of the enclosures were quite impressive but due to the bird flu concerns we didn't get to see any avians so I was pretty bummed about that. I really enjoyed their selection of fish and snakes.
Krista
Fun zoo to take the kids too. All my boys enjoyed it despite the weather being cold, snow on the ground and most of the animals not being out. But we were fortunate to get the free tickets in the free day lottery so we felt like we didn’t waste a trip up to Denver. But we will definitely be back again in the summer when it’s warmer out and hopefully more animals are out.
Jason Dunlap
We went to the Zoo Lights at night. It was a great time! The lights were great and they had a lot of fun setups. There had hot cocoa and hot cider, both could be spiked for some added fun. They did have a variety of animals and exhibits open as well so you definitely got to see some animals. To us about an hour and a half to walk (relatively slowly) through the whole zoo. Definitely would recommend.
Laura Sincere
Went to see Zoo lights which is a beautiful experience this time of year. Especially a special place to spend time with the family and peer at artistically placed bright colorful light displays. It started at about 6:30 and we stayed for 2 hours even though it was a little chilly. I got to see some Malaysian Horses outside being fed some treats by the zoo staff. Went to warm up inside the "tropical discovery". Of course all those animals were out and about because most reptiles and amphibians are nocturnal. Afterwards we visited the gift shop where we were greeted by a very sweet young lady named Luna. She was not only helpful with all of our shopping needs but was able to find our sizes and ring us up in a timely manner. Overall great customer service in that gift shop with an employee named Luna! Highly recommend Zoo lights for anyone visiting the Denver Zoo during the month of December and I think the beginning of January.
Hanna Page
Our one year old loved this zoo. It's small enough that we were able to walk through most exhibits in an afternoon.
The parking is free and the tickets are quite inexpensive, especially if during winter pricing.
It was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon, full of families.
Theresa Hoban
We enjoyed this moderate sized zoo. They had animals from Africa and are building new areas for Asia. Give yourself about 2 -3 hours. The best part was the Golden Lion Tamarind baby monkey which is a newborn that clings to its mother as she swings and hops around. ‼️‼️
Jennifer Lowe
We love the Denver Zoo and go a couple of times or more each year. Seems as though things are always growing and evolving which makes each experience different! They have a wide variety of food and nice little pop up snack and beer stands, all the conveniences and a nicely appointed gift shop. Nothing beats and ice cold beer in the shadow of the Rockies on a beautiful day at the zoo!
Ashish Borate
Denver Zoo is awesome place to visit and one of the attraction covered in city pass.. They have community days where you can get the free pass to the zoo, checkout their website for more details.. all the birds were off the display because of bird flu risk.. Zoo has their own app for map and shows, I would recommend to install the app elephant show and sea lion shows are must watch.. all the animals need to be covered on foot, so wear comfy shoes.. keep water and ready to go snacks items with you.. enjoy carousel ride and toy train.. there are multiple eateries available inside.. parking is available..
Hayley Brown (Haebay)
We love the Denver Zoo! The animals were so active and the kids loved watching and learning about each animal. Even know it was chilly when we visited the kids still wanted to walk the whole zoo and see all the animals since they were all up moving and making their sounds. They were all definitely spunky when we visited about 11:30am.
Shelley Andersen
Beautiful zoo with interactive activities for the kids. We were able to carry in a picnic lunch and the grounds had many lovely places to sit and rest. Our group especially liked the new elephant enclosure and the sting ray touch pool.
Charles Brown Jr
They labeled the enclosures well plus added many warning signs to protect the public. There were many areas to sit down and rest as well as to eat and refresh yourself. The animals were entertaining especially the Gibbons monkeys and Silverback Gorilla. The cost of a 2-12oz bottle of Coca-Cola and 2-soft pretzels cost us $23.82. It was ridiculously expensive and I hope some of that goes to take care of the animals. We bought five rides each on the train because we thought it goes all around the zoo (the website did not state it was a very short circle) and ended up wasting time and money. We gave the other 8 rides to a family that we came upon. Overall, I would recommend the zoo to any family looking for an outing. It is quaint but very nice.
Rodney Smith (Photographer)
This is a very large zoo with a great variety of animals. I recommend making it a full day or several hour visit. The pathways are fairly level and it's easy to get around. Look for "shows" and special presentations.
J Spence
Very nice zoo. Last zoo we were at was in Bronx, NYC right before covid shut it down in 2020.
Unfortunately for humans, but good for animals, the birds d/t avian flu circulating were out of main display.
Several exhibits were closed for renovations.
The ticketing online did give a heads-up though. On that note, the timed entry thing is a bit annoying. I don’t know how it prevents covid spreading 2.5 years into this when people still crowd each other at the exhibits anyway. Also, it looked like you could actually buy a ticket at the zoo on the kiosk but not sure if they were really working.
I found the concession stands to be surprisingly fresh although typical high-priced zoo.
The plants here deserve some special recognition. Pretty amazing considering the CO climate
Darren Popsie
This is my favorite zoo that I have been to, even more so then San Diego!!!
I love the way the exhibit are setup, you feel like you are right there with the animals.
The tiger exhibit is especially cool as there a cat walk, no pun intended, right over your head. It's so cool, to see these beautiful animals so close.
Currently there a light show you can go to after 5pm. I didn't experience that, but just seeing the display during the day, I can imagine it's a cool experience.
Nichole Morales
Was a great experience getting to see all the animals with my little ones. We got our tickets online and it was super quick and easy. We also are food stamp recipients and we're able to get in for just a dollar per adult. There are a lot of animals to see and places to stop and get water and snacks.
LaJaus Haüs
Variety of exotic animals! The elephants was from China and Love to swim! We've never seen a elephant floating and having fun in a body of water before ! Very cool experience! The 4D movie was so great! The whole family had an awesome time!!
Dave Byler
We went for Zoo Lights on a chilly night and had a great time. The lights themselves were great, and we enjoyed some close-up time with the giraffes, elephants, and the indoor reptile/amphibian/fish exhibits. The spiked hot chocolate and apple cider were a bit watered down and overpriced, but the experience was good. Looking to go back in warmer weather!
Jessica Scharrer
We love the Denver Zoo! My kindergartner just had his first field trip there on 4/22. Even with all of the construction on the new exhibits coming up he still had a blast.
Kayla Cooper
We came on a calm weekday. I like that it was quick to get in and really a chill vibe. I like that they sell alcohol. What I didn't like was that it is not wheel chair or stroller friendly. The doors on the inside animal exhibits do not have a wheelchair button or anything. We had 3 babies so it was a pain. Also, there were not many animals and a lot of construction going on.
Robin Denman
My grandkids and I had a wonderful time at the zoo. Loved the exhibits, Dippin Dots, and carousel ride! Kids loved seeing how far they could jump, and what animal was similar. Not very crowded except for the gift shop. Super nice employees!
Jed Harris
We've been to alot of Zoos across the US and I was really impressed with the Denver zoo.
They use their space perfectly. The enclosures don't feel like cages by any means. And each section seamlessly flows into the next.
What we were most impressed with was the reptile house. It felt like we were in the jungle peering into each creatures national habitat. Don't forget to look up for the SLOTH!
Page Garza
The Denver Zoo was wonderful. Temperature was in the high 90's in Denver also but we still enjoyed this beautiful zoo. They have multiple areas for the elephants which is good since they need to move so much.
Sadie Schauer
My husband definitely surprised me with this zoo trip! Being from South Dakota, we don't have but maybe 1 or 2 zoos. I've been to both, but this one was my favorite so far! Also, I got a surprise by getting to feed the giraffes!!! Will definitely be returning with my kids!!
Denise Morua
I went to the zoo with a couple of friends and it was amazing. The property grounds are beautiful and there are things for everyone to enjoy of all ages. Its very affordable to go to and there are so many different types of animals to look at. Highly recommend.
Alfred Moya
No joke. This is best zoo ever. Denver Zoo is a world class facility with thoughtful planning and layout. The staff were all awesome, very professional and well trained but the real attraction here is the design. They really go over the top to provide a realistic and immersive experience. Everything is up close and accessible for even the littlest ones. You can really feel the attention to detail and visitor experience. Thing
Casey Elliott
Always love going to the zoo. Get your tickets in advance to save time and hassle. BRING A WATER BOTTLE, they have filling stations all over and it will save you from spending too much on park drinks. Lots of food options. Wear sunscreen- I mean it, and even a sun hat would be a good idea. Most animals are more active in late afternoon then they are when the park opens but also it's less hot early in the day so pick your poison. Definitely recommend stopping by the hospital to see if they have any cool procedures or surgeries going on that you can watch- and even if they dont, the staff there have so many videos and etc. of cool things to show you!
Jeremy Easley
We always have a great time at the zoo! We always get the season pass, and never regret it! The animals look very happy and healthy. The kids love the train!!
Elahe Javadi
Great attraction, it's like a zoo+aquarium, amazing staff! Loved the sloth, komodo dragon, 4D theater! Affordable snack: ice cream, popcorn, ...really enjoyed our ~ 2 hrs there.
Shannon Burger
Zoo lights was amazing and well worth it! We could only get tickets for 7:30 and it closed at 9:00, but we didn't actually leave the park until 9:30 and could've stayed longer! Beautiful displays and cool animal viewings, like the elephant playing with a treat box and the snuggling otters.
Michael G
Grew up with the Cincinnati zoo, another top rated zoo in the nation and I gotta say. We love the Denver zoo! It's a great place to go for a walk. We spend about an hour every other week or so walking around the exhibits. Can't beat it!
Excited for the light show!
Kevin Suhr
This zoo will get you 10000 steps! Better to buy a year pass and come back multiple times to walk different loops. We were lucky to see three animal talks for the lion, elephants and sea lions, such a great Saturday!
Kitty Cats
Love coming here! The animals always seem well taken care of and healthy. There are also frequently zoo babies to be seen! My favorite part is the tropical discovery center.
Cyndee Claphanson
We LOVE going to zoos. The lemurs we're our favorite here and I was so excited to get dip'n'dots. The food was good and the train ride was cute. I wish they told us more animal facts or puns on the train ride.
Scott Gaskins
Nice visit on a warm Denver day. We kept as much as possible to the shady side of the paths. Park staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place to visit with small children.
One issue we had - The mobility scooters are not completely suitable for someone who is completely wheelchair bound because of the size of the scooter (bulky) making it difficult to maneuver in some of the zoo's tight spaces and various trail surfaces. We ended up having to return the one we rented because the limited mobility user in our party (cannot walk at all) was not at all comfortable trying to manage it. We had to go back to her manual wheelchair and swap out pushing around the park.
Teiah S
Had a lot more fun than I thought I would. Most of the animals were hot and hiding til it rained. Then everyone started coming out as the zoo was closing, lol. Still had an amazing time with my love ❤
See you next time Denver!
Daniel Silva
Amazing Zoo! Very well organized and maintained. We went there on a very mild fall day and all animals were very active. Spaces are well though giving comfort to animals and also great views for visitors.
Kristi Melcher
We went to the denver zoo today it was very good seeing the animals they had lions hyenas and much more.we didn't get to do stingray cove because you have to pay to do it to feed them its 2$and to touch them it's 3$for nonmembers and 2$ for members. It was a good zoo and the cheyenne mountain zoo was great and the giraffes were way better.

Wonderful exhibits and outstanding staff. Saw so many animals up close, definitely one of the best zoos in the country. Considering Denver has such outstanding food, I think dining is one area they could improve!
Lizzie Albert
It’s a good city zoo as compared to other city zoos. Has a lot of variety but some exhibits can be a little sad with only one or two animals. Lots of food options so you never miss out on the ice cream or snacks, even had a pretty good Turkey burger!
Tara James
The Denver Zoo was a wonderful experience! It is very interactive. The staff were so nice and helpful. Some of the animals like to show off for the attention! We also experienced the Zoo after dark. It was like walking through many wonderlands! The lights were intricately wound around the trees. This was a day well spent!
Jeff Walker
Christmas light show! Was super nice, there's Christmas Light everywhere, in the entrance they didn't tell us about the 3D Glasses, so we saw some people using it and so we found a place to buy, the experience is complete different, I definitely recommend, what wasn't clean to me was if we could see the Animals or not, we could see just some, but barely could see them well. So like this you already now.
Brooklynn Coop
If you love elephants, this is a great zoo for you- a spiritual, Asia-themed area of the park is devoted to the elephants. Huge reptile area. So many adorable monkeys. Great for kids and adults.
Derek Wegener
Lots of exhibits closed and animals off exhibit. A lot of the other animals were avoiding the heat and not visible but I don't blame them. It was warm today. Gift shop is reasonable but drinks were expensive.
Tara Roehl
A beautiful day at the zoo today with our homeschool co-op - even with the avian flu Breakout and the construction we filled 5 hours with fun on our scavenger hunt based off our group read aloud!
We have always loved the zo land we are so happy to be back again after all the covid restrictions! We were able to get tickets ahead of time and ran into a lot of helpful staff!
We can't wait to come back to see the birds and bears soon.
Robert Blair
What a splendid place to spend the day. To see everything they have to offer, make a point to set aside the ENTIRE day. Really loved the number of indoor viewing areas, especially with the heat, and especially appreciated this zoo’s commitment to keeping animal welfare as the main priority. We’ll be back!
Andrea Lopez
Went to see the Zoo Lights for just general admission. It was my first time and it was lovely! The lights are amazingly set up and it's a lovely holiday event. The elephant and giraffes were indoors and we gave them a visit too!
Ashley A
Loved the sting ray exhibit and really enjoyed how close up the elepants were. Gets crowded quickly, I suggest going early. Plenty to see here, I don't think we actually saw all the exhibits because we were limited on time. Plan to stat at least a couple hours.

Seems like there's a lot of construction going on there right now. Most of the birds aren't on display due to the possibility of spreading bird flu. Loved watching the elephants play in the water and the giraffes eat. If you want a treat the dole whip is very good.
Tarra Steele
Lots of fun! The best elephant exhibit that I’ve seen and I’ve gone to a lot of zoos! If you have EBT it’s only a 1$ you just have to preplan the ticket online. I Do wish they had better food. And the train was unfortunately closed
Ronald E Robbins
I love going to the Denver Zoo. The animals always look very healthy, happy, and well fed. A great way to spend the day with a friend or even by yourself. Highly recommend. Oh! And the new penguin exhibit is phenomenal!
Brian B Gomes
Decent zoo. Worth checking out if in the area to kill some time. Entry was 20. Free parking. Animals were entertaining. Decent amount of exhibits
James Miranda
So fun & exciting! The new tiger exhibit that's right overhead let's you see them pretty up close! 😁 And I saw all kinds of different animals, got beer, wine, and delicious food! 😋 + gift shop!
Timothy Williams
Our family loved the Denver zoo. It's a nice zoo that's laid out really well. We were able to walk around and visit the different animals and the crowd was light that day which made it even better. As most train rides at Zoo, it's way too short without much to see. However, on this trip we had a big foot sighting! So cool to see Bigfoot walking around in the background. Huge props for this attraction on the train ride!!
Kevin Olson
Really awesome experience. The highlight for my son was seeing so many snakes and lizards in the tropical discovery building. We also enjoyed all of the other animals and practically saw every animal that was out.
Evan Fleming
Always enjoy seeing the various animals.
Bummer, the birds were off site due to bird flu. The rhinos were running! Majestic to see such a large creature move so quickly
Kelsey Dudding
Omg it's been 15 years since I have been to the zoo and I forgot how much fun it was!!! Took my 6 month old son for the first time which he really wasn't as excited as he would be if he was a bit older but it was still a truly lovely memory to have!!! We went around 130 on Wednesday which is literally the only time I'll go from now on! No crazy school they were all leaving when we were coming in! Literally got a front row parking spot no cost! And while there was totally people it wasn't anything like I've seen in the past and the weather was absolutely perfect!!!!! Such a fun time!! And the hippo playing with his ball in the pool omg adorable!!!!!
jesskika hernandez
It was an experience that I will never forget... It was amazing a beautiful day the weather was perfect the sun was shining.... My husband mind you never ever been to the zoo my little ones either so it was an adventure for them.... Perfect timing we got to see it all....
Lauren Hughes
We always have a great time at the Denver zoo. I love that they are doing adult bev crawls at night, can’t wait to go to one. For now it is a kid treat.
Jason Beatty
What a great zoo! We visit the Phoenix Zoo often and decided to check this one out and it will not disappoint! There was a lot of stuff under construction while we were there but they did an amazing job at hiding it so that you never really felt as if it was interfering with anything. Bring your walking shoes and sunblock and enjoy….We sure did!
Jessica Booco
Love the zoo, have been a member forever. Always a fun time. My kids love getting pretzels and ice cream and the souvenir cup is a must for parents. Carousel 🎠 is always fun. …
Jaime Charlip
We really enjoyed walking around this zoo. All the animals were out and almost posed for their pictures. The staff were very friendly and the zoo was very clean and well maintained. Excited to return!
Sheila Stone
We had a 1:30 reservation. That does not seem to be a good time to go because most of the animals were sleeping. There aren't any bird exhibits because of the Avian Flu. I thought it was a little hard to navigate around the zoo but they have maps posted often enough you can figure it out.
Anita Gal
Amazing experience. My friends' child has never saw an exotic animal before. When first time she saw a leopard in that zoo, she was crying out of happiness. We loved it. It looks like the animals are happy out there, and taken care of.
Precious Flores
One of My Favorite Places, it's a Tradition, Spent twice as long this time because there was many new things to see, it was a very pleasant day with just the right amount of visitors..
New babies to see, New Exhibits and lots of Florals...I took more pictures and videos than I've ever taken...had a Wonderful Time ..Always A Pleasure
Em Garcia
Great family place. Kept clean, plenty of animals. Lots of information and staff around. Restaurants inside and outside food is allowed. Only down side is there has been construction going on for a few years and a lot of the animals are not in their exhibit. Pricey gift shop. They do serve beers. (Zoo lights was a blast)
Lilo Santos
Zoo lights is a great time at the holidays! Lots of light displays and sometimes there is an animal to see as well! Mask mandate indoors only as of 12/22/21.
Scott Darby
This is our favorite zoo we've visited as a family, and we've been to a few. The park is clean and the animals look to be healthy and active. The carousel and train are hits with the little ones, and the staff are very friendly. The park in clean and has good bathrooms and food offerings. We joined as members, as we intend to come back often. You also get free ride vouchers and food discounts with membership.

Its been a very long time since ive been and i don't remember it being so confined. We went on a saturday during spring break because my cousin wanted to go.i don't reccommend going on a weekend from now until september even with timed entrance.
We walked from e colfax and steele across the park and accidentally went all the way around the outside of the zoo and they were kind enough to let us in even though were a half hour late. The denver zoo has instilled an advanced ticket, timed entrance process and it does say to be on time in their plan your visit section. You can also add their caroseul ride and their train to your ticket order and animal encounters to your tickets. That being said we still enjoyed our time.
chris baker
Some construction going on. All birds are off exhibit to protect them from bird flu. Thus new penguin exhibit closed. Still doing timed entries. Place was really crowded with school kids which is good for the zoo. Things should be better this summer.
E M
Nature Play Trail is a hidden gem at the zoo.
I recommend❣️If you have children, this is the perfect spot to have your children explore and play with nature. It is a great option for parents that may need a break to rest.
Emily Gayle
Great place to go with the family. When we went we didn't see many animals, must have been the heat of the day that they were sleeping or something. Excellent zoo to go to frequently!
Luc Ceci
Terrific zoo. I was able to enjoy it in under 2 hours and it is reasonably priced. They have an excellent elephant exhibit and lots of major animals.
Jessica H
Fun place to visit with the kids! We enjoyed the presentations. It was really fun to see the animals outside! They have 5 elephants!! Lots of cool different animals. Concessions are spending as usual. Wish the 4d theatre was playing something more entertaining than happy feet. Kind of old so we skipped it, not worth the money.
Josh Gillespie
Went to the Denver zoo on my anniversary to take a look at our favorite animals and was happy to find that the great apes were out and about. The apes were active and seemed to be enjoying themself on this beautiful day.
The zoo is still undergoing renovations but it's different from when I went four years ago which speaks to the effort the zoo puts in to give their animals the space they need.
Samantha K
Always a great place to visit. They're doing a lot of conservation work and consistently upgrading their facilities to be able to provide the best care possible for the animals.
Ediberto Garcia D.
Great experience watching all the animals it's so fun and takes you away from all the stress. Got here at 11 am and got out at 4.30 so be prepared to spend lot's of hours with the family.
Food they sell a lot of food here.
Kentucky Jenn
Great zoo, some remodeling /construction going on that is confusing for someone new to this zoo.
They have beautiful exhibits and great variety. The habitats for their animals seem well kept and the animals are happy and loved.
The sloths 🦥 are hanging around. If you are a sloth lover I suggest checking the times the zoo wil have them out in action, I belive at the front entrance area. I didn't catch it, but I'm sure it's great and worth it!
LOVE ALL THE ELEPHANTS!!
Anthony Ramsey
I thoroughly enjoyed Denver Zoo. There was a large variety of animals. The animals appeared well kept and happy. There was however limited options to purchase water.
Jen Welte
We always really enjoy the Zoo lights. They were beautiful. We also had no idea the grumpiest clownfish in the US called the Denver Zoo his home, but indeed, he does, lol.
Darryl Breeden
They have a good number of animals that were pretty active. We got turned around at times and weren't sure if we had seen everything so had to do some back tracking so it could have been layed out a little better but really a minor issue.
Scottie Duzz
Great time and a great place for kids. Takes about 3 to 4 hours to walk and see everything. All the employees are super friendly and helpful if you get lost which is very easy to do
Kelee Fisher
Beautiful zoo. Thought some of the larger animal exhibits seemed a bit bare and lacking enrichment, but maybe I just wasn't aware of the enrichment opportunities they have. Loved the elephant exhibit, simply stunning
Erica Seegrist
The Denver Zoo is one of our favorites! Membership is worth it but they also have several discounted ways to visit. Lots of animals and to see. Always fun exhibits like Lego animals. Definitely worth visiting.
brandi remak
We decided to treat the kids to a family fun Sunday. It was a little chilly but not unbearable. Staff was very helpful and gave my daughter some Birthday coupons , there was employees all over the park who was telling us about the animals. Due to the cold weather and a few enclosures that are being built some animals weren't around to be seen like the gorillas, birds, and sting ray cove which is some of our favorite places to visit . We love to feed the stingrays and the birds. But we did get to get pretty close to some beautiful giraffes with their long necks they were passing the barrier and we could almost reach out to them. Tons of great animals to see and to learn about . One of our new favorite things to do is walking through their animal hospital if you get to the zoo early enough you might see some Vet tech going on in the viewing windows. We got to see the lemurs getting fed . Defiantly will be going back when it's a little warmer to see the bears and gorillas out.
Make sure to take advantage of their reduced fee tickets for : Ebt , military, seniors and students. They also have free days you can enter to win tickets.
LS Tours
We visited the Denver Zoo this past July and enjoyed the experience. This is not a large zoo, which is nice, and the walking paths were clearly defined. We had lunch in the café and even though it is expensive, it was good. This is a nice zoo to visit if you're in the area.
KrisPea Project
So much animals to view. From reptiles to mammals... The place is huge and packed with animals. Buy tickets in advance to skip the line. Your kids or even adults would enjoy if you love animals. For toddles i suggest to bring strollers just in case they get tired of all the walking.
Lucia Omf
Absolutely beautiful. You can easily spend half of the day in Denver Zoo.I like that food stands are redistributed through the zoo just in case you need to grab something to eat or drink. We really enjoyed our day.
Lynn C
Great place to visit with the kiddos but do expect crowds. Parking is always hard to find & admission can get up there. The new additions are amazing.
Htoo Myat
I've been to two zoos in the U.S. Washington D.C. zoo and the Denver zoo. Here are the reasons why I think Denver zoo is superior.
The zoo has a pretty well planned layout that makes sense. I like the decision to keep the animals from the same regions together in the same pans as you might find them in nature which I didn't see in DC zoo. Denver zoo has more rides than D.C. and as a full grown adult, I still wished I could ride the cool train. The number of empty/unavailable exhibits are also fewer, most had animals in them while D.C. one had a lot of empty exhibits for different reasons. Themes and vibes created for the areas through building styles and music are also quite incredible around the zoo.
Why do I rate 4 stars?
D.C. zoo is free and Denver zoo is $20 for general admission. In value comparison, it's probably even, if D.C. zoo isn't better. $20 would price out a lot of families. $5 ~ $10 range would totally push it to 5 starts imo.
If you're fine with the entry fee, I'd 100% recommend it as a must-visit place for families visiting/living in Denver.
Kristina Houskeeper
Very beautiful zoo. Lots up nice upgrades, lots of food choices, and drink and snack carts everywhere. Water fountains and drink coolers to refill drinks. Staff is very kind, very helpful and always willing to talk about the animals. The enclosures have been upgraded in recent years and it is fun to see the animals have more room to play and interact. The famous monkey island is still there and always fun to watch the monkeys play and swing from tree branches. The addition of the aquarium area is a great idea. I love that we can experience sea and river creatures as well. One of my very favorite zoos!
J. P. Doyle
The zoo is very nice but it is under construction in a lot of areas. Further the birds are all put away due to the avian flu. If known ahead of time probably would have chosen a different experience for the day.
Angel Rodriguez
Nice zoo! Had time to kill before our flight - mid week no lines - toured to the whole zoo in 1hr 45mins 2 adults no Kids - just leisurely walking.
Gordon Morrison
It was a chilly, gray, weekday afternoon, so there were hardly any other people at the zoo...we even had a "private" train ride! We sat and enjoyed watching the baby orangutan agitate his parents for 30 minutes. We will definitely be back!
Peter Cieplinski
Great time as usual. Lots of animals out for beginning March. Was a beautiful day. Friendly staff and fun shows.
Marwan Obeidat
Very nice Zoo and habitats, many different species. Free parking, located in the Denver city park area. Very kind staff and volunteers. I highly recommend it to anyone especially families. So many interesting animals and picnic areas.
The zoo has some rides but the prices went up, I think it is very expensive for families with multiple children.
Bathrooms can be cleaner.
Erika Fernandez
The largest zoo I've ever been in! So many fun activities, I could spend around 4 hours here trying to discover all of the animals! The food options were pretty good as well for some burgers and ice cream. An absolutely fantastic place for kids and adults :)
Janet Geiger
Beautiful and wonderful zoo, very stroller accessable and very informative. Great for all ages. I'd come around 11 or later so more animals are out, awake, and active :)
Miranda Shorey
My brothers and I enjoyed our day here. My only complaint is that the food/ gift shop items were very pricey, but otherwise pretty nice experience. I was slightly confused about the ticket process, as it says to get the timed tickets online, but then there is a kiosk at the entrance you can also use. We waited about 30 mins because it said you had to wait for a certain time slot, but I'm not sure if that was actually correct? Regardless, we had fun and I'd recommend this as a nice way for anyone to spend the day!
Martha Fitts
A great place and fun for all ages. A great variety of animals and care takers around who you can tell really care for them. We really enjoyed the new animal hospital the last time we were there! Very cool to get a sneak peek in to the veterinary care.
Deon Henderson
Absolutely love the Denver Zoo! Always a great place to be. I love that they are changing things around a bit. Excited to see the renovations finished
Theresa Dixon
Best day ever we didn't get to see most of the animals but it was sunny warm and the zoo was awesome I will be back for my birthday may 2 !
Kristina Slover
Great exhibits and healthy animals!
Loed our first visit here. A little tough to navigate thru the park but besides that all the shows, educational stations, and exhibits were amazing.
*you can bring your own food and beverages with I love! *
Hailey Hansher
I’ve been going to the Denver Zoo my entire life and before I wouldn’t have given such a high review. The enclosures use to be so small and crowded but they have been working really hard recently to update and expand all enclosures. The service over the year has improved. The biggest downside right now is with COVID you have to select a time slot to go and there aren’t as many zookeepers walking around or have as many stations set up where you can learn more about the different animals. They also use to have a lot more variety of animals which was really cool but now that I have grown up I think it’s great because it has given them more space for the animals that they do have
Mel
The Zoo of lights is pretty amazing!!!
It's very magical being under all the lights
The glasses that come with the glow package are pretty cool as well
Dress warm if you go 🙂
Derek Killian
I love the Denver Zoo. The staff are wonderful and they take great strides in their efforts to rehabilitate animals and provide a good home for them. Despite current construction it was still a full day event. Will always come back.
Britney Brady
The zoo is always great but a lot of the exhibits were closed and the train was not operating. I definitely would not recommend visiting first thing in the morning. We were disappointed at the lack of things we could do.

My wife and I had traveled to Denver because it houses The Children's Hospital Colorado, and we got free passes since we stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of Denver, so we went! And may I just say, the Zoo itself was extremely clean, well-maintained, and full of people excited to see the wonderful animals there! We spent about a total of 4 hours just walking around, looking at the entirety of various animals that they had there. The day we went, it was a little cold, so they had most of the animals inside their habitats that were shielded from the cold, but were still able to roam freely. Which I thought was awesome because I wouldn't have wanted these cute little animals to freeze in the cold. Make sure you bring your walking shoes! And be sure to take your camera! Lots of amazing creatures to see! 10/10!
Dwayne McDougle
The Denver Zoo is a pretty nice zoo. It is a long day if you are going to go through the whole thing to see all of the animals. Food is pretty expensive so if you want to save a little money I would suggest bringing a water bottle and some snacks. The exhibits are pretty nice for the most part and they have zoo personnel around some of the bigger exhibits to give information about the animals.

Denver Zoo is an 80 acre zoological garden in City Park of Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1896, it is the most popular paid attraction in the Denver metropolitan area.
Denver Zoo was started with the donation of an orphaned American black bear. With the construction of Bear Mountain, it became the first zoo in the United States to use naturalistic zoo enclosures rather than cages with bars. It expanded on this concept with Primate Panorama, featuring huge mesh tents and open areas for apes and monkeys, and with Predator Ridge, which has three separate areas through which animals are rotated so that their overlapping scents provide environmental enrichment. Toyota Elephant Passage, which opened on June 1, 2012, is divided into five areas for rotating the various species.
The zoo achieved ISO 14001 certification in 2009, was given the first AZA Green Award in 2011, and was named the "Greenest Zoo in the Country" at the World Renewable Energy Forum in 2012. In 2015, it was re-certified for ISO 14001 and achieved OHSAS 18001 certification, becoming only the fourth zoo in the world to get both certifications.
Denver Zoo houses species from all over the world, including hoofed mammals, carnivorous mammals, primates, pachyderms, birds, reptiles, and fish. The zoo's animal collection contains 3,500 specimens representing 550 unique species. The zoo is laid out in a large loop, with exhibits both inside and outside the loop
Ambrosia Vicari
Thoroughly enjoyed this zoo. All exhibits available to see were amazing. The sea lions were the most active. Quite a few snakes were active as well which was great to see. The kids rest and play area is very neat to experience. My kids loved it! Will definitely be back
Gabriel Vazquez
Always a fun time at the zoo. Some days the animals are entertaining and active some days they are not, oh well great regardless!
Chirelle Pearson
The zoo itself is really big!! It will take you a couple hours to go through everything. We missed a whole section & had to backtrack. Some shows going on, not many but that could be Covid related. Felt like there were several exhibits without animals in them, which was unfortunate. Loved that they rotate animals into different enclosures to help them get a new feel every day. Elephant & Sea lion enclosure was my favorite! We don’t participate in any extra amenities, but they had sting rays to pet, ice cream, beer, drinks, etc.
Courtney Reynolds
We love the zoo. The sting ray exhibit is our new favorite!!! The baby stingray is adorable and super playful!! It was super hot the last day we went so we cooled off on the little splash area!!
Kathryn Stepulaitis
Amazing! I’ve heard great things about this zoo but my gosh! I couldn’t believe how big the actual zoo is. My husband and I got lost a few times 😅
Khai
We went on a Saturday, October 23rd at 1:45 pm and parking lot was full. The zoo was a also packed. There was quite a bit of animals to see, kids had fun and that was all that mattered. If you’re visiting Denver, you should go. I live here so I will definitely go again in a 3 years.
Lino Gonzalez
Had a great time taking my daughter for her first time to this zoo. It was my first time coming to the one in Denver and it was great, will be checking out the glow nights mentioned all throughout the park sometime soon
Allison Cardona
Super fun family friendly zoo! I highly recommend getting some ice cream while you're there!
Tyler Gallup
Haven't been in a few years, but some ups and downs. Hotest part of the day so tough to see the animals and seemed a bit desolate for the first 30 minutes, but again, not going to knock them seeking shade. Quite a bit of the zoo was closed, but the new exhibits were were awesome. Could use some misters or something like I have seen at other zoos, but still a fun time. The stingray cove was perfect with slushies in a sand bar next to it!
Jesi Sola Konz
A must if you have kids or love a great animals outdoor experience, the staff cares a lot about animals, and you can tell they are happy in a safe environment.
Zeke Hops
Had a blast here, the animals looked very happy, and there was a large variety of them to see.
Samantha Madrid
Very nice Zoo! We had a good time. Parking was easy, bought tickets online, no waiting to get in. Wish there were more places to buy water and snacks, it was really hot the day we were there. Other than that it was a good visit!
Kelly B
Love the Denver Zoo!! Still makes me feel like a little kid every time I go!! Animals are well taken care of and very visible to guests. The different kinds of vegetation that grows is awesome!! Love making memories here!!
Camille L
Zoo lights was so fun! Really cool lights, and COLD weather. they should do this in the summer when the weather is more enjoyable . They gave special glasses with family deal. All the lights looked like snowflakes! They did have Marshmallow stands and fire pits and lots of places to refill coffee and hot chocolate throughout the whole zoo. Still too cold for me. 🥶😌
Alina Zulina
Amazing place. A lot of beautiful animals. Attentive staff. The park is huge. 2,5 hrs wasn’t enough to see everything and everyone. We will be back
Kyashi N
My kids loved it! Staff is always friendly and patient!!! We rented this stroller and it was perfect for our needs. Highly recommend visiting the zoo.
Cameron C.
My 2 year old and wife loved our day at the Denver Zoo. The animal exhibits were nice and the food was delicious.
Randi Vicory
Probably the best zoo I've ever been to. They really care about the animals and give them tons of enrichment activities.
Bill W
My wife and I had a wonderful afternoon walking the zoo and observing the critters. Outside temperature ranged from upper 70’s dropping down at the end of the day as rain approached.
There was an even mix or critters indoor and out and many of animals had yearlings and babies. The zoo was not crowed and and we appreciated the natural beauty of the landscaping and many of the exhibits. Between the landscaping, winding walkways, exhibits and critters it was a great way to bond and share quality time with my wife.
Towards closing tome dark clouds moved creating a nice blend between sun and dark backdrops. Light rain started about 8 minutes before closing time and gifted us with a rainbow. The Denver Zoo is wonderful place to visit often. The annual pass is a bargain.
Jesse Rhoads
So many animals and well designed pathways! Easy to see everything they offer and great elephant enclosure.
Melinda l
Had so much fun! I love how they have the open enclosures and how the zoo is laid out. They make it very easy to see all the exhibits and have some interaction with animals.
They also have water bottle refill stations throughout the zoo. Watching the elephants play in the water was definitely my favorite part!
Carl Simpson
Company party at the Zoo Lights. Had one of the pavilions. Great time. The lights never fail to entertain. It was cold and my knees hurt from it but that's a December night in Denver...
Rachel
Didn’t realize that a lot of the exhibits were closed for maintenance. The zoo was pretty clean, and the bathrooms were also clean and well stocked. We got dippin dots from the cart near the bird exhibits and the young man working there was very nice and helpful.
Stephanie Conrad
We bought a zoo pass for the last two years and it is worth every penny. My daughter absolutely loves going and every time we get a slightly different experience. The Denver zoo does a fantastic job with their exhibits and keeping the animals comfortable while still allowing people to see them. Covid-19 has actually benefited the experience since there is a designated route, it keeps traffic down and everyone moving along really well. We usually pack our own lunch but the food is pretty good there.
Les Bro
This was a nice zoo. There were a lot of people there, but it didn't seem overcrowded.
Aaron Lucas
Very very entertaining zoo. All the enclosures were visibly
made well. Most of the animals were very lively (considering it was very hot and all the smoke from California wildfires) . Great place to walk and observe.
T Stockham
Had a great time!
My whole family came to the zoo with me.

We went to the Zoo lights in the park. It was beautiful 😍. Soooo many lights and so much to look at. Some of the "inside" exhibits were open but of course being dark it was hard to see them. They are there and you can defn hear them. The ambience with the lights and the beautiful Colorado weather will make a nice night out. Lots of families there. The reason I gave 4 stars is ONLY because I wish more food/snack vendors were there. The lines were really long on the few that were open.
Timmie Hansen
We love the zoo. The membership is such a great option for families with kids of all ages. The Zoo Lights are also one off our family's favorite traditions!
Heather Hughley
Great exercise, family fun, great food, and service. They also have some rides for kiddos plus the amazing animals.
Duncan Foss
After living here for 20 years, got to go to my first Denver zoo lights what a fantastic voyage of sight and vision and just beauty of color!
Michelle Wood
Had a great time great family trip location fun for pretty much any age even though we had went in the evening because of a company function my parents jobs were hosting there for Halloween, it was also open to public & a good amt of animals were still easily seen! Lots to see and lots of walking so def make sure all going are prepared and wearing comfy & good walking shoes!!
Sonya Grisby
The zoo is my happy place its never to packed staff is always friendly and helpful when I have had a question my family loves coming here we pack a picnic and make a day of it.
Jose Juan Doreste
Very nice Zoo. Easy to walkthrough. Sadly most animals were sleeping when I went. Other than that, great time.
Brandon Sonn
Always so great to spend a few hours walking around. Denver zoo is always making improvements to the park and it shows! The new hospital also looks pretty amazing. Especially grateful to the helpful and friendly volunteers and staff who really enhance the experience. One of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.
Spider About Town
We had a great time except the meal we got at the pizza place by the sea lions was expensive and also awful (especially the sandwich, do not get that!). We really enjoyed the reptile/rain forest exhibit!
John Archuleta
Great family experience, all the animals are fun and seem to be happy and well taken care of!
Sherri Pe'a
The Denver Zoo is truly one of the best family friendly places to visit in Denver. Admission is reasonable (make sure to reserve your entry time on line). The real upside is that you can bring in your own food and nonalcoholic beverages. There are plenty of places to enjoy a family picnic. The merry-go-round and train are also reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the day we visited the train was not running but we did enjoy the merry-go-round.
The Denver Zoo also has strollers to rent. They were a little more pricey at $13.00 for the double, but held our 8 month old grandson a smaller back pack and a small cooler.
The grounds are well kept and clean. And of course the animals are always the stars! The variety of exhibits are nice and offer great viewing for all ages.
Definitely a must visit attraction for locals and visitors.
Stefan Tobler
This is a pretty awesome Zoo. There are plenty of animals to see and most of them were active when I was visiting.
The coolest thing that they have is the animal hospital. If you can stomach watching surgery, you can actually watch operations happening. For $20 you will absolutely get your money’s worth.
Korrissa Denny
Adulting at the zoo was awesome! The beer floats were amazing and we got lucky enough to get there right when they were feeding the lions so we got to see them really up close. Going through everything is an easy walk and there's a lot of shady areas to sit and take a rest. Good parking and the gift shop was also really nice. The enclosures were well kept and good sizes, animals looked very well cared for.
Amanda T
Went on a free day and it was great. More animals out than we though. Really enjoyed ourselves.
Charlie Buehler
Great zoo lots of animals. Kid and adult friendly. The first zoo that I have seen where you can get beer.
Justbeing Honest
Zoo lights was Beautiful. The staff is so welcoming and nice. We go every year. It’s our tradition. We love the Denver zoo
Wilderness War Cry
This is a nice sized zoo. If going in the summer, please get there in the early hours as it can be hot and the drinks are very expensive. There are water fountains throughout the park. I really enjoyed the flaming section.
Do 2
One of the best zoos in the U.S. Newly renovated and currently renovating habitats for most of the animals. A wonderful day to spend a few hours of quality time with anyone and the family pass price makes it an easy once a week option for fun and exercise.
Tae Darnell
Always awesome. Amazing zoo for a small market city. I love most of the exhibits. My kids especially loved Tropical Discovery. Met a zookeeper named Tom that we saw walking through. Had stopped him to ask a question. He not only stopped what he was doing, Id say he is now a hero to my kids and the others whom he gave his time to. Got to see Dart fish spit and he spent a solid several minutes answering the kids questions. No doubt everyone loved talking to a real zookeeper who seems to also be an awesome human. He represents ehat we feel about the zoo. Awesome place, awesome people.
Parker Wilde
I have been coming here for over 20 years now and still love it.
The best part is you're allowed to bring in your own food/drinks and have a picnic mid-day. We usually have our picnic on the Southside of the giraffes in the grass area.
They have my favorite animal as well- poisonous dart frogs.
Holly Schafer
I was super excited to win FREE tickets in the zoo lottery for the month of November (this happens once per month). This zoo is amazing! So much to see and do, kids will LOVE it! Thank you to all that care for the animals that call Denver their home.
Jo Mar
Best for both kids and young at heart adults :) a recommended place to visit in Denver. All personnel are very approachable and kind. :)
Maggie
Great zoo. Every animal display was detailed to the area they were associated with. Pretty clean. Elephant show great, don't miss it. My personal favorite was the bat display in a cave setting..really cool. Park spread out well so not too crowded, very large zoo. One of the better I've been to ....if you're in town and need to do something besides the parks this is it. Still get a lot of walking in.

We chose to visit the zoo because it was my daughter's bday and needed an outdoor setting to celebrate. They did the best they could with there being a ton of people there. They have a timed, staggered entrance because of covid and there is hand sanitizer available at various locations throughout the park. The rides were still open. We were able to see a lot of the beautiful animals and the kids had fun!
Kevin Schulz
Paid $9 extra for premium pass that gave is a train or carousel ride, a 4D movie, and petting the rays. Train ride is pretty pointless. Shark movie was interesting and provided a cool break from the hot day. Highlight was petting the rays. Many other animals were not active. I think they need a few more signs around the place. We seem to have missed the sloth exhibit. There are shady spots to sit around, but many viewing areas are in full sun. Bring a water bottle.

I have been going to the zoo for 56 years. My daughter was a teen volunteer there, so suffice it to say I've been there a lot. They are an exceptional zoo, and I've been to a lot of zoos. Their main focus is the welfare of the animals and education. I know from personal experience and my daughter who worked behind the scenes, that the keepers and the zoo staff are truly dedicated to the animals and their quality of life. It is a beautifully designed zoo, with lots of big old shady trees, that cast wonderful shade when it's hot. There's lots of choices for food and snacks, and a really nice gift shop.
Chris V
Came for my first Christmas Zoo Lights and was not let down! Everyone had a good time. There is much to see, and their exhibits are great. Seeing all the different animals along with the Christmas lights was a treat. Always a good time here. Would recommend this zoo to anyone looking for something fun to do.
Zektzerite
Really great little zoo, prices for food and souvenirs completely reasonable. We really enjoyed ourselves and got to capture some great photos! Animals all looked healthy, exhibits clean and the volumteere and employees polite and helpful. Plenty of shade when walking around.
Shannon Johnson
Beautiful zoo, full of amazing animals. We spent hours walking around watching the animal. There were gluten options for lunch. The gift shop and restaurant staff were very nice.
Travis Bair
All the exhibits where open except a couple. All animals look healthy. The exhibits where put together very well and easy to access. I will suggest to buy the lunch deal with the admission ticket online as it is the best deal and you can pick from many of the vendors where to to get each part of the meal.
Stephanie Wilkinson
Love this zoo, if you have kids are looking for something to do for 3 or 4 hours this is the place to take them
Isaak Giesbrecht
One Day you have to take out your family to this Zoo, it is good too see hoy good made all the animals
larry f
Great fun, weather had cooled just a bit. Lots of animals were out.
Lots of improvements, construction going for new flamingo home.
Richard Finnigan
Nice zoo with a good layout that holds a large number of zoo-goers with out feeling crowded. Ample parking though some will require a walk in to the entrance. High marks for a lot of viewable, active wildlife. That is not always the case at municipal zoos. Worth a visit if you are in the Denver area especially if you have kids.
Crystal Hh
Had a great time. Lots to see but a lot of the animals were not in their enclosures. Plan for an all day visit. Bottle drinks were $5 so I'd bring your own.
Troy Young
Definately one of the top zoo's I've been to. I took my little guy. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I went on a went one a wednesday there was a light crowd which was great. I was able to see everything in under 1.5 hours. The layout of the zoo is well organized. The stingray pool was a good experience its definately something you would want to do... its $3 to enter but worth it.
Jeff Lane
This was a special excursion for us during the holiday lights at the zoo. Amazing displays, amazing funnel cakes plus other treats, and amazing adult beverages.
Debra Bostron
Using annual pass we were able to enter at 830am! No crowds. Animals were more active than later in the day. We enjoyed the elephant talk, clouded leopard, and gibbons.
Libby Baxter
Great exhibits but could use some more signage with directions, like actual intersection signposts to diffrent exhibits.
Steve Childers
Definitely love the Denver Zoo during the winter. The ZooLights are an amazing experience. They do an amazing job with the lighting.
Jeffrey Carter
The Denver Zoo is one of our favorite places to go! As parents, the best purchase we have made in a long time was buying a membership to the zoo.
During the summer we love to come on a week day to avoid the crowds. Boo at the Zoo is a great way to spend a fall morning or afternoon looking at all the pumpkins and beautiful fall decorations.
There are "food trucks" around the zoo that have great, not typical zoo food options. Great Divide Brewing often has a special Denver Zoo collaboration beer on tap which is perfect for enjoying while walking around.
Clinton Wallace
The zoo was really nice. Great to walk around and enjoy the amazing Denver weather. Lots of animals that were clearly well taken care of with really nice exhibits.
Jesus Leal
School trip with my daughter we had a blast enjoyed seeing the animals on our list, We shared a Burger from The C food truck. Delicious
Vinnie
Always a blast at the zoo. Wish the stingrays were included in admission. Lots of exhibits did look closed and it was hot so a lot of the animals were hiding out of site. Nothing new with the animals hiding though. Overall lots of fun.
Christina Marie
Haven't visited since I was a kid in the 90s and they have done alot of work to improve the environment as a whole. My son had a boat and lived learning new things about the animals. The new sloths are ADORABLE. ❤
Whitney Chapman
Perfect Zoo! Very walkable and active animals! We come every time we are in Denver and it's always been a great experience! The kids love it so much.
J Moore
I am only giving this zoo 4 stars because they really should have cooling stations. I get that most days it is not as hot as it was today, but having just come from the Colorado Springs Zoo where there are plenty of cooling stations, it would have been nice. We would have stayed longer and for sure have sat down for a meal but it was way too hot. Lovely though and lots to see. Kris in the elephant area was extremely informative and was very pleasant to talk to. She also had great style!
Dallas Hale
Amazing experience and one of the best zoo's I've ever visited! Great, friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Worth every minute!
Corinne Garcia
I have gone to the Denver zoo for 25 years and am always impressed. The animals get good space and are well cared for. It’s so nice to see the Zoo constantly get upgraded and invested in. Very impressive zoo with covered underground parking and a ton of shade through out. I always feel like I got a good opportunity to see animals and learn something new each time. I also enjoy that they are incorporating more interactive animal experiences.
Kevin Lee
I love visiting the Denver Zoo on my off days. I'm a truck driver from Alabama working in Denver and I enjoy the experience as well as the exercise. Sure beats sitting in a truck all day!
Dionne Berreth
I have visited the Denver Zoo 3 or 4 times and have had a great experience every time. Many of the enclosures don’t even seem like enclosures at all since they are quite large and well designed. The giant monkey tree habitat is especially impressive. During my most recent visit, there were lots of baby animals which is a great indication that the animals are happy and comfortable enough to breed. The staff is wonderful, they seem very well informed and easy to talk to. My friend and I especially enjoyed the bird feeding, sting ray interaction and the elephant show. The only negative thing is that the pad/tampon machines in the bathrooms are in desperate need of replacement. I unfortunately needed to use one of the machines during my visit and after going to 3 separate bathrooms in search of a working one, I finally swallowed my pride and visited the guest services/concierge booth at the front of the park. Thankfully, one of their very thoughtful staff members gave me her own personal supply from her backpack… for which I was eternally grateful. I’ll always go back to the Denver Zoo.
Jennifer Corley
The animals were glorious with nice thematic enclosures. But, the map is very hard to interpret and it's hard to find one's way around without many signs or directional arrows - that was frustrating. The tiger exhibit was one of the coolest and we loved the animated orangutans!
Kadie Johnson
Who doesn't like the zoo! It's a great place for when I was a kid and continues to be for my kid. I was sad that some of the animals where not on display due to exhibits changing but just means that they will have another great thing in the near future to check out.
rwag2341
Having grown up going to the San Diego Zoo, I was pleasantly surprised by what this zoo had to offer. Had a fun day with my wife and toddler. Food and beverage kiosks were well-spaced out and had a couple of pretty good beers on tap as we cruised around the enclosures.
Some enclosures were actually surprisingly big even though I'd consider the zoo to be on the the smaller side. Most of the animals were easily spotted but also had room to move around.
Place was clean, kid friendly, and made for a great afternoon.
Richard Esquibel
So much to see! Plenty of places in between to sit and enjoy refreshments. Overall great place for every walk of life. Take a map because you may get lost with so many different paths to take. Can't wait for our next visit.
Rosie Maureaux
Just went to the Denver Zoo lights. Absolutely beautiful, serene, peaceful. I loved it! Totally worth the trip. Denver Zoo is definitely one of the best I've ever been to!
Brandy Dennis
I have loved visiting the Denver Zoo since I was a kid; and now that I have children I am so happy to share in the experience.
We decided to bring our littles to the zoo during school hours one week. There were a total of 5 in or party, ranging from Senior Citizen to the age of two. So needless to say patience was a virtue.
Tickets were purchased in advanced, and since a member of our party receives government assistance we were able to utilize a government program offering the experience for a dollar each.
My pockets were relieved.
I appreciate when I get to educate the children almost for free, for this I am thankful to the city.
Parking was easy. Scanning tickets were easy. The zoo was not over crowded and the animals seemed to be content if not happy.
The workers were engaging and full of knowledge. They took the time to answer questions and give insight on the exhibits and the habits of the animals on display.
I am happy to say, The Denver Zoo remains one of my favorite getaways that is not too far out of the city.
Jake Miller
Fun way to spend an afternoon! Denver zoo is small enough to walk the whole thing in a couple hours, but big enough to have all the animals you hope to see at the zoo
Ian Brossard
Wonderful zoo and the animals all seem really well cared for. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful.
Anastasia Eikenberry
We've been members for several years and have been to the Denver Zoo dozens of times. I really like how it is laid out with lots of side paths so crowds don't get too bunched up. There are many buildings and indoor habitats scattered around, so we actually prefer to go in colder weather because it is less crowded but there is always someplace to stop and warm up. The staff and volunteers are very passionate about the animals and always take time to talk to my kids about them and answer questions. Overall a very nice zoo and worth supporting.
Cody Vilaythong
Denver Zoo is pretty sizeable. They have pretty much any animal you want to see even komodo dragons and elephants. Enclosures looks well kept and most of the animals were out and visible. The zoo app helped immensely with navigating around the park.
Miri W.
We LOVE the Denver Zoo.
I’m an Aupair, in Colorado since October 2020 and take care of two kids, ages 1,5 & 5 years old.
We come here every week, the staff is super friendly, they have programs, shows, volunteers introducing animals to the kids, there is a carousel & a train & around Halloween there are even people walking around, dressed in super cool costumes.
Also if I actually don’t like Zoo’s, bc it’s kind of animal abuse, but Denver Zoo does their best & I appreciate it as an opportunity to spend a nice day with my kids & as an opportunity to talk to my kids about the differences of animals in freedom and in a Zoo…
Maria Galdean
I love the Denver Zoo who doesn’t! It’s great to see they are continuously renovating and creating new habitats for the animals. The best addition is the sting ray exhibition. You pay a small fee to enter and feed them if you’d like. The new elephant habitat is also beautiful and especially enjoyed when the elephants are out with their trainers! You must purchase your time and tickets online!!
Carol Pautsch
Nice zoo. We didn't have a lot of time, so had to skip a few things. I'd recommend at least 4 hours to see it all.
Lindsays A Happy Camper
We just love coming to the Zoo. My kids have a great time and always see something new. Having the reservation system so nice. Since it's not over crowded you can actually see the animals.
Danica
Great experience. It was sad to see that the bald eagle had such a small cage tho. Also there are so many additional fees inside as well. They weren't outrageous but you esn't to experience everything be prepared to pay extra inside.
keisha deguzman
We went at 10:30-2ish. We did the online registration the night before. When we got there the entrance was really congested, but once we got past the first few exhibits the crowds seemed to get a bit better. (I’m sure if we went later in the day there would’ve fewer people.) It was nice to see how much space the elephants in particular had. The gibbons and sea lions were fun to watch! We try to social distance still so we weren’t able to see the penguins. They’re a brand new exhibit this fall. So it makes since that it was the most crowded area. Overall, our toddler had a blast and I’m glad we rented the $10 “jeep” to navigate the crowds and of course for when her little legs got too tired
Caviar
Fun Zoo not too crowded. Cute stuffy and very clean. The water spray is so good and helpful to combat heat.
John Harris
Good mix of indoor and outdoor, with periodic shade. Even on a warm day, we found ways to stay cool.
Michael Bangerter
Really awesome zoo! The elephants were cool and the monkeys were funny. I'd absolutely go back!
Ahna Chev
Get a membership. Well worth it. The kids love the animals, train and carousel. They also have a mister by the elephants for especially hot days. Hopefully they are able to install another one throughout the park for next summer. Animals are beautiful and it is obvious they enjoy their areas. Running and interacting with the other animals in their enclosures.
Amber
The zoo was overall a nice experience. Entry was quick, there was no line or security check. The walkways had lots of trees that provided shade in the intense heat, but unfortunately a lot of the animals were also hiding from the sun as well. So be mindful that if it's a "really nice day" but super hot, the animals don't enjoy it either!
Justin Sherman
This zoo was a great experience you gotta see and have closed personal view of the animals and there was a lot of animals to choose from to see. I suggest going early in the morning and beating the heat and the crowd here
Joseph Rosa
The TIME IS NOW We go every Year bring your Walking shoes snacks and food get a little pricey so eat before you go also bring snacks for the kids save a little $$ for the shops. Bathroom is not that convenient when in middle of zoo so I suggest using it before going to far there are some a front when you enter! Items suggested sun screen, visor, sun glasses, good walking shoes, snacks, hard candy works great! GUM is a big NO NO can make animals sick or stick to your shoes! Most of the animals come out mid afternoon we like to watch them after they eat or right before Denver ZOO Closes! Buy the yearly pass helped us go more often, also get your tickets online if you're interested in the weekend it gets a little crowded!
Felicia Martinez
Was a nice experience...staff friendly and knowledgeable of all animals! Wish more animals were out...lots of exhibits were empty. Very nice Zoo but can easily miss some areas if not paying attention.
Jennifer Nguyen
Great zoo! Big variety of animals, huge enclosures for the bigger animals, and lots of passionate, informative zookeepers/employees. Would recommend!
Soni Lazo
What a great Zoo! Price point, too! Not a lot hills as other ones we have gone to.
Phil Jones
The Denver zoo is a very nice Zoo with plenty of great views of the animal residents. We spent almost 3 hours exploring everything. The collection of venomous snakes is impressive and you can actually see them unlike some zoos. There were several young animals to look at, too cute! We never got to see any gorillas but I imagine it was too warm for them. I would recommend this zoo. I did find the food prices pretty high, but it's the same at every zoo I've been to.
Becky Shull
Always purchase tickets in advance. They no longer have a ticket window but just have kiosks. However, since tickets are timed entry and limited to a certain number of people, there have been days where they sell out all together.
The food selections are pretty standard for a place like this (hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, soft serve ice cream including the Dole Whip like they have at the Disney Parks, and stands for pretzels, beer, Dippin' Dots, popcorn (extremely salty), and cotton candy to name a few).
The long standing staple at the zoo, The Bird House, is closed and looks to be slated for demolition or huge renovation. I will miss that place. The old "Cat House" has been closed for a couple years now and it's not obvious what they're going to do with it. But there are many changes coming in the future. I just hope it's not too seriously delayed from Covid-19.
My new favorites are the Painted Wild Dogs. They are very interested in the people and what they want. One growled at my husband because it was challenging the direct eye contact. I love so many of the animals there but I deeply miss the Red Pandas. I hope they bring some in soon.
Another favorite thing about the Denver Zoo is the beautiful gardens. The cacti are gorgeous and the seasonal switch of flowers throughout the park is so well done.
My husband and I are members of the zoo and visit regularly. It's still one of our top 5 zoos we've visited across the country.
Karen “k” Harris
We had a blast at the Denver Zoo. Very very hot but we managed to find places with shade. Some animals were sleeping or hiding in their cubbies. The moneys were pretty active in the heat.
Chris Abell
Christmas lights were amazing didn't even see many animals still had a wonderful time.
Christina Peterman
Ever since I was a little kid I loved our zoo in Colorado, it has done great over the years how ever we don't have polar bears there anymore I really wanted to show my kids , they need to have more motorized scooters and maybe for 20 like it was instead of 30 , I really wish the bird place was open.
Surbrus “Wrath” Gonzales
It's a pretty amazing experience but I wish it had more mist stations or just shaded places in general.
Jacob Crum
Fun place to spend a few hours. Geared towards families, but my wife and I enjoyed ourselves as 30 year olds. Good beers to be had. Animals were active. I'd say it feels a bit dated though.
Jodi Flynn
Beautiful zoo and lots of great exhibits. Kids love it!
Mya Blank
Great variety of animals, many ways to see them inside and outside depending on the weather. Multiple viewing angles so easy to see for all ages and sizes. Definitely an all day event for a full loop but easy to only do half with the paths they've made. Only issue is very limited bathroom points throughout so make sure you stop when you can because my kids almost didn't make it to the next one. Staff isn't as friendly since restrictions but definitely worth a visit and membership!
Taleka Carson
I was selected to receive tickets through their community days program. I love it. Animals are blessing on this earth and just watching how majestic they are is a delight.
Stephanie Olson
This zoo is very clean, habitats seem adequate and well maintained, and animals well cared for. Zoo staff very knowledgeable and had extensive conversations with all the kids in my group ages 7 to 15 on an age appropriate and educational level. We had a great day and hope to return soon.
Ely Matson
We love this zoo! The layout is awesome, the animals look happy, and the kiddos always have a blast.
James Gray King
Lovely zoo that seems to care about conservation more than some smaller town zoos.
Alyce Jackson
Very nice zoo! Decent ticket price, lots of animals, and free parking!!
Alexis Taylor
Amazing, be sure to wear comfy shoes because this Zoo is BIG! Some of the animals were either sleeping or not there but we went first thing in the morning so that was expected. The zoo itself was nice and clean, they have little mist stations that come in handy during the summer months, especially for the littles. It was very clean and the staff was full of information and always ready to help out. We truly enjoyed it and will definitely visit again.
Jose Vieitez
2022 update:
Still super cool. They had zoo lights going (just came down today) and so many awesome animals.
2019: It’s like being transported to different parts of the world. Such a cool zoo!
Fe
My second time here (May 2021). My first trip to the Denver Zoo was 2017. I didn't get to see many of the animals I'd hope to see, but there overall layout and consideration to the habitats was impressive, aside from the construction. Decent snack options but not much variety. Expensive beverages. The gift shop is cute. We went on a weekend which wasn't ideal, so it was a little crowded. Tip: buy your tickets online to avoid the ticket line, which doesn't move as quickly as it should. Was hoping for more primates.
Robert Wagner
When purchasing the tickets online, you buy them for a timed entry, we showed up about 15 minutes before our scheduled entry but were able to get right in, without any wait or hassle. My wife and I have been to many, many zoos across America, and It is so nice to visit one as beautiful as Denvers'. I know it may sound crazy, but the animals actually look happy. There were numerous species running around and just seemed happy to be there. We saw two shows, elephant and penguins and there was obvious love for the animals exhibited by the trainers. The sting ray exhibit (additional cost per person) was well worth it, and I suggest paying the extra $ to be able to feed them. The grounds were in immaculate condition and restrooms were well maintained too.
Cathy Greffen
I really loved that this zoo has open space around alot of the animals rather than cages. The monkeys are able to crawl across ropes above your head and travel freely from a caged area to an entire island just for them to play on. The zoo is pretty big and has giraffes and elephants too which was cool to see as well as a stingray petting area. It was a great trip for an even better price.
Mad1
Highly recommend going if you haven't been there in awhile, It's been upgraded everything is new or different lots of fun.
Amanda Gehris
I've been visiting this zoo for 30 years, and their absolute passion for the wellbeing of their animals and our world is evident in every aspect.
The Lorikeet volunteers this last week were so wonderful, we got there right at opening and got to meet everyone by name! Thank you so much for your knowledge, kindness, and enthusiasm!
Mike HouTX
Visited this past Sunday with family while visiting. Great zoo with an easy layout for getting around. A few expansion projects underway so some exhibits are empty being worked on or upgraded. All of which are part of progress. Great place to visit with family on your trip to Denver.
Josie Frank
Love coming here! The tickets are reasonably priced, but I'd pack some snacks and drinks to avoid the high price of food once inside the zoo. Animals appear happy and healthy. Love all the flowers and plants! Always so much fun.
Juan Garcia
Beautiful zoo, really loved all exhibits. Its a decent size and all animal enclosures look good, clean and full of enrichment toys. Keepers look to really care for the animals and they answer questions. One of my top 5 zoos definitely dont want to miss if you're in town.
Ashley Coleman
We always enjoy our trips to the beautiful zoo and go often. Yesterday we went into the giraffe house by chance and they had a mamava lactation pod. As a mom to an 8 month old I was thrilled. It was so nice to have a quiet, private spot to feed and change my baby. I will definitely be taking advantage of this during future visits.
samantha Finn
Great family time! No matter the ages, the zoo is always a good time!
Gadia Parker
Me and my wife love going to the zoo its nice to to just walk and talk and see the new animal's and the baby's there so cool can't wait for boo at the zoo.
Dulce cabrera
A nice cold Beer ! Crispy Orange chicken! And happy kiddos ! Yeap the Zoo is great !
Happy bday Baby Boy couldn’t be happier spending it at the @DenverZoo
Greg Schneider
We went on a Monday morning and had the place to ourselves. If you go early enough, all the animals are fairly active and you don't have to fight crowds to see.
Michael Sabella
Great place for the kids. Tons of animals and we got to be hands on with a box turtle. The zoo is clean and there is some quality food if you know where to look.
Barbara Taylor
Beautiful and thoughtful zoo. Don't miss the pollinator trail. The Elephant bridge is spectacular! It took us about 4 hours to see all the animals. Bring your own food and have a picnic.
Amanda Rose
We didnt have time to get through the whole zoo, but the aquarium was great! Much bigger than we thought since the website only mentions stingrays, (which are a whole other thing, they arent in the regular aquarium part)
Didnt see any foxes or wolves with as far as we got, not sure if they dont have them or if we missed them. Disappointing cause theyre my boyfriends favorite. They did have some big cats though which I liked. The animal enclosures are pretty small compared to other zoos ive been to, and watching the elephants broke my heart a little.
I think if you have time, its a fun way to spend your day. But I wouldnt struggle to fit it into your schedule especially if youre travelling
Nicole Barba
It's not the best zoo in terms of variety of animals, and also the food sucks, but the layout is nice and the kids have fun. All the staff is wonderful and the little meet an animal carts are great. The beer and cider selection is pretty good.
Dawn Chadwick
It was a nice change from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo where we normally go. A lot of construction going on and that made getting from one place to another difficult. Some exhibits were unavailable and was a disappointment, but there was still plenty to see and shade was easy to find. I loved seeing the otters and lions.
Philip G-B
I was slightly underwhelmed by this year's Zoo Lights but we did go opening weekend and there were longer wait times than normal for concessions. Besides that, the Denver Zoo is a MUST if you're in the area and looking for a fun getaway. Knowledgeable staff and volunteers, grounds are well maintained, and parking is vast. Just watch out for peeing tigers! You'll know when you go.
Brenda Ball
Love the zoo! Lots of animals,it's of upgrades, and lots of fun! Always a great time for family with or without children. Adult beverages and kid fun foods.
Jeffrey Ocampo
Awesome experience👌 clean and well-maintained. Staff are nice. Kid and adult-friendly place. A must visit when going to Denver ar nearby places in Colorado for the young and young at heart.❤
Josh Hartman
The zoo as always was amazing, the animals were very active the day that we went. Spent the better part of 6 hours seeing everything the zoo had to offer. Definitely would recommend becoming a member, we go monthly and the membership paid for itself multiple times over.
Jayden Daughery
All the staff is so nice and they really treat you great as well as having some wonderful animals. My fiance and I spent the day there and had such a great time! I always love seeing animals we wouldn't be able to normally see unless you travel great distances.
Eldon LaDouceur
Had a great time at the zoo with family, and our 18 month great nephew. He had a blast
Jacob Rhodes
I’m from Texas and this was my first time going to the Denver zoo with my family and I really enjoyed it. They had a wide selection of animals and the enclosures look a lot like the animals natural habitats. The zoo overall felt real jungle like which made it feel extremely natural. I especially enjoyed the baby Komodo dragon they had.
Krystal M Thompson
Love coming here to see the animals with my nephews (2 and 4). The keepers are patient and love explaining things and answering questions, and the animals have good spaces, healthy food, and active training. Love the Toyota Elephant Passage, a special habitat for male elephants. We visit often!
Updated 5/30/22
Nephews are now 8 and almost 6 and still love it here. Keepers and docents are so knowledgeable and I love the conservation work being done here and around the world!
Jaime Gutierrez
Went for the Zoo Lights event. Lights are amazing and the vibes are great. Not many of the animals are out but that’s to be expected at night in the freezing temperatures. DO NOT ride the train, it should be free and it is a waste of money. It takes you around in one tiny loop which you’re better off just walking and not waiting in the long line.
Gauen Rhys Alexander
The Denver Zoo is a great place to bring children. Many great exhibits, lots of learning opportunities, and Colorado's famous wonderful weather make this a great place to visit year round. Also, support the conservation work of this widely recognized world class organization. If your budget is tight, look for the SCFD free days, when admission is waived. Tickets should be reserved in advance. If you come often, consider a membership.
Ricky Valero
The animal selection is impressive. I will say that the variety of being able to see different animals from most zoos we're nice.
Customer service solid.
BUTT
The lack of a playroom for some of these animals is a hit alarming. Just don't see a whole lot of space to let these animals be themselves within the guidelines of safety, that is.
Made the trip in different more than happy
Leo Ruiz
It was a pleasant experience there was new attractions the most of all the staff over there at the zoo was really awesome the concierge staff has great customer service i
Love it looking forward to going back🙂
Justin B
Amazing zoo!! It’s a large zoo and we entered around 1pm and some of the animals were feeding. It was too cold for some of the animals to be outside (around 50 degrees), but we had a great vantage point of many animals. We had a great time!
bryna ochoa
Beautiful zoo. Wonderful animal exhibits . Family loves coming here. Always such a pleasure watching these beautiful animals. They seem very well cared for. We enjoy coming as frequently as we can.
Sierra Rhodd
Went for zoo lights. They never disappoint. The beignets were perfect!
Britney Fuqua
This is such a fun experience. You need to schedule a time online and buy tickets. which is really nice because it seems to limit the huge crowds. If you have a Snap card I believe it is a dollar a person. The zoo does close at 5pm so make sure you leave yourself enough time to discover everything. The animals seems alot more mobil and active without the huge crowds but I could be wrong. What I loved is the geese just had all of there babies so there are tons of little goslings running around.
There are tons of snacks like popcorn, cotton candy, beer and if you have children there is a food court.
The only reason I took off a star is because it's a little dirty and I felt an urgency to wash my hands.
Bob Taylor
Had a great day at the zoo! Visited on a weekday, so no crowds. The exhibits are very well done. Would have given 5 stars, but construction made it a bit hard to follow the map and navigate the paths. We got confused a number of times. Still lots of fun!
Kae Zenisek
Very nice e and well laid out! Lots of food and snacks along the way.
Becky
It's been quite a few years since my family visited this zoo. We enjoyed it. We had an appointment and used the app (instead of a zoo map) to get around. You can also follow the arrows painted on the ground. It was the beginning of summer break, but wasn't too crowded. Still there were enough people that 6' social distancing wasn't possible. There was comfortable distancing.
Christine Johnson
Nov: it was fine, seemed to have lots of space. This was my first time at the zoo and I was a bit disappointed in how few animals were out. The zoo wasn't busy at all and it was a bit chilly so that might have helped. I understood the penguins being out inside for fear of them catching the avian flu.
The train is a joke and should be for kids 5 and under. I've never seen a train not go around the entire park, it went in a 3 min loop. Disappointed that we paid $35 for our family of five to ride the train and carousel. However, the kids rode the carousel 5 or 6x so we more than made up for it.
Their map system was less than impressive and was hard to decipher. It just wasn't clear and we almost missed an entire s crion, I'm glad we finally figured it out. I wish there were some better signs to help people out.
I'll be back, hopefully it's better in the spring/summer. I'll rate it again in a different season.

Hadn't been to the zoo in a while, but was pleasantly surprised at my first post-Pandemic visit. The workers were attentive, most of the exhibits were populated, and the animals were the most active that I've ever seen them. It seemed like some of the more intelligent animals were somewhat afraid of the crowds, but I'm sure they are still adjusting to the larger numbers of guests coming to visit.
Verla Wood
Great day trip take own picnic or there are food stands. Train and carousel rides. Lots has change, some things are gone, like the one animal theater. They did add new interactive exhibit for people but does have an additional price. Food displayed in photo was way too expensive. We could have gone to a nice restaurant for lunch for about 20 more dollars this cost over 45.00 for those small samples. Burgers were over 12 dollars each. Lots of construction and detours no birds on display because of bird flu concerns
Musette Steger
We went to the zoo for the first time this past evening. I don't know what the cost is to get into zoo lights for we went as guest.
I liked the fact that they had areas closed off so you were subtly directed on a "zoo lights" route. Many of the buildings were open so we got to see the otters, the giraffes, the elephants, as well as fish, frogs and other amphibians. I thought it was pretty cool that the zoo was broken down into sections such as Asian, Caribbean, etc...
I would like to go back during the daylight to see what I missed.

It's been a while since I've been to the zoo.... I've enjoyed the lights for many, many years and finally had an opportunity to go again.
I need to visit again during the day since it's been a while so I can enjoy all the improvements the zoo has undertaken in recent days.
Time to renew my membership! ❤️

Absolutely beautiful place and love that there is more to come! Spent a good couple hours here which is nice compared to other events. I also enjoyed the variety of options for guest, such as little for adults and kids. I also loved how there was signage for high touch zones plus lots of sanitizer stations. Would definitely come again!
chris mack
Very nice and clean zoo animals looked well taken care of.
Life's a garden, can you dig it Michelle?
We experienced alot of fun stuff, but due to construction it felt quite empty.
Jamey Bierzynski
Go at 10am in the summer when it opens to catch the lions and elephants.. They're back in their house by 11am , because of the warm temperatures.
Seily Ortiz
This place was one of the best zoos we gone to as a family.
Mike in Northeast Texas
Great place to take the family, loved seeing all the animals, so many different kinds to see. Love the Denver Zoo setup. Easy to get to and easy to walk around. We highly recommend Denver Zoo if you like going to zoos.
Cynthia Escobedo
It was our first time visiting, and we had such a lovely time, my family was delighted. The gift shop has more than plenty of options, great for buying souvenirs that match everyone's needs. Would definitely visit again!
Crystal Martin
Love this zoo. Pretty sure we were able to see everyone except sting rays
Philip Rupsis
So much fun! Went and saw the zoo lights and it was a magical time. You get to see the lights out in the cold while sipping hot chocolate. Then you go into the animal houses to warm up. Highly recommend
Ana Garcia
I got to admit at first I thought the entrance fee was a little high ($20 adult) but it was totally worth it. They have lots of animals that other zoos don’t have, many African and Australian animals.
Linda Thomas
Great Zoo. All of the animals were out and very entertaining.
Emily Moore
One of the best zoos I’ve been to. The animals have so much space and there is a huge animal hospital on site. Great mountain views. Loved the baby otters, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippo, and tigers. $1 EBT admission
Bubbles
Best zoo experience ever!! They have misting stations for cooling off during the high temperatures. My family experienced all the attractions except feeding the parakeets. The food from the food trucks however do not compliment the price.
Stephanie Cole
Best zoo I've been to in my life. It was quite literally a life changing experience. We went on an overcast Thursday afternoon so there were very few people and we were able to get up close and personal to all of the animals. Highly recommend.
Patrick Sanchez
I love this zoo! Clean, friendly, staff is very knowledgeable.
Dale Pratt
Haven't been able to spend the better part of a day at the Denver Zoo. Very enjoyable. Though I really miss the polar bears. Will have to go again next year to see what changes have been made. By the way, if you have never petted stingrays, it's a great experience. Even got to feed them!
John Gilchrist
I'm reading it low because it was winter and a lot of the animals were either not out or in hibernation. However, the indoor areas had people with special pets out and we were able to see them and we had a great time. The Lions were fantastic. Hopefully we'll be able to come back in the summer and enjoy it to the full extent.
cindy manz
Do bring sunscreen in the summer months and do bring a backpack with water and snacks to complete your journey.
dona seminetta
Very nice. The grounds were clean. Viewing areas were easy to see into. Friendly and informative staff. The special stingray exhibit was especially awesome, as we got to feed them. Quite the experience!
Constance and Tim Parsons
Zoo lights are beautiful, and we had a great experience.
Lisa Martinez
Love all the new exhibits. Great place
John Trogonoski
Took the family here while on vacation in Denver. Still a very good zoo, but not as many animals as there were 10-15 years ago. Especially missed the polar bears. Concession prices are also pretty high, and parking wasn't easy on the day we visited.
Kristina Schroffel
The zoo is always fun and always something new to see
Caitie Martinez
Went for my birthday, and if you let them know upon walking in, they have coupons for you to use the day of. They're geared towards children though, so don't expect much. Lol junior ice cream cone, free ride on the carousel and 10% off in a gift shop. It was a great day though, because there was hardly any guests, and chilly enough that most the animals were inside.
Robin Ward (kwestkid)
Pricey and hard to navigate. $18 for two cokes and a side of fries. I blame myself, but it was a treat for me and the kid. Lesson learned. It's so confusing getting around. There are maps occasionally, but no street signs directing where to go. I couldn't tell the difference between an intersection, an exhibit, or a dead end. No EV parking and bathrooms are scarce. 3 stars for lots of great animals. It was impressive to see the variety and amount of creatures. Whatever money spent went to them I hope.
Fatimah Alsalahi
Very nice zoo. I recommend visiting it if you’re in Denver.
Matt Glazier
The Denver Zoo lights are awesome! Didn’t have a ton of time to walk through so make sure to get there early!
Ginny Schlatter
Fun time to go during the animals' lunch. They really need to clean the windows to view the sea lions though. Tons of algae? on the glass. Also, most bathrooms are a mess.
Susanne Bass
We had a great day at the zoo. We wished more animals were out but the weather was changing.
John Guminski
I took my sister out to the zoo since she was in town and I haven't been there for a while. And boy, was it a good time! It was a hot day and I thought that most of the animals and birds would be under shade or inside. Was I wrong! I could go on here all day but, honestly, it was the best time I've been to a zoo in a very long time. John
natalie maxwell
I went for Zoo Lights this year - I've been coming here for more than 30 years and they continue to improve. Lights were pretty, not all animals were out but we still saw plenty. Lines for concessions were quick and easy to find throughout the park. Kids loved getting to see the zoo at night too!
J Carey
The reason for a low rating is because I feel they could clean up a bit. I have been to some pretty big and well kept zoos and I feel like if we care going to captivate animals we should be doing the most for them. Unfortunately I felt that it was a bit dirty and areas for the animals were not well kept or anything near some of there habitats. It made me sad. Thankfully we did get in for free we were given tickets and they do let anyone with EBT cards in for free so that is good! Just wish something more for the animals!
Amy Fraser
Zoo lights was a ton of fun! Haven't been to the zoo since our now 17 year old was very young (still in a stroller), and it was a great way to revisit after all these years.
Zena Zellers
I would gladly spend every day at the Denver Zoo if I could. I absolutely love animals and the whole zoo is gorgeous, even with the construction ongoing. And there are so many babies! I loved every minute of my visit.
Alex Dupaix
Had a lot of fun. Took some good pictures. Haven't visited any zoo in years. I can see why this one came highly recommended.
Ryan Barba
Great zoo with tons to look at around every corner. There's even komodo dragons. The food was also very good there, I mean, when they have bulgogi fries, what more could you ask for?
Blake Eric
This is our favorite brewery in Denver! They even have animals. Tons of great local favorite on tap. We try to come once a month. Highly recommend!!!
Takes about 2 hours to see the entire place, so plan accordingly.
Elena Setzer
We went the day after it snowed it wasn’t crowded at all. A lot of the animals weren’t outside but you are able to see them inside their buildings and warm up some. There are several places to see animals inside if it’s cold out. Very cool place and will visit again.
Almangie Ruefli
the Denver Zoo is one of my favorite places. They have many species of animals on display, fast food restaurants, although the prices are a bit high. The train ride around the zoo is what I like the most! there is a huge carousel that my grandson likes a lot. the sea lion show is great fun. The only thing I hate about the Denver Zoo is the lack of parking. it's ridiculous having to park like 3 miles from the zoo on a saturday after noon
Derek 303 Schick
I love coming to this zoo! Been coming here since I was a kid, a lot to see! Kiddos had a blast!
Zachary Burgeson
Here for our annual favorite, Zoo Lights! Always a great time with plenty to see all year
Pam Lynch
Thank you so much for the hospitality and amazing customer service for my adventure of the beautiful zoo lights. Seeing some animals still pretty active was cool too! Can't wait to go back during the day!
Zaldo Capiral
Always a good day/time for a walk. My kiddos are always excited everytime we're going. That's why i recommend to everyone to get a annual pass for the family.
Kara Thompson
Great place for all ages. They had a lot of new construction going on. Lots of interactions for all ages.
Matt Yates
Awesome zoo!! Great exhibits with fairly active animals. It's a pretty large zoo, so be sure to leave yourself a few hours to see everything.
Mario Robinson
The zoo was great! The had traffic routed to be only one way and encouraged social distancing with mask! The elephants and orangutans put on shows and kept us entertained.
Tammy Bocock
This is the first time visiting here since 2008. I love that the zoo is now set up for social distancing. We got to see some amazing animals and it was quite a nice walk. Love that there are places to sit and bathrooms conveniently located throughout the whole trail. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Only recommendation for guests is to bring a water bottle. We didn't and the drinks are super pricey.
Alfonso Simental
I've only been there three time.
the first two times I went with my family
The third time I Went on a field trip with the Arc thrift stores the zoo made it a little easier to navigate since they marked all marked the pathways and trail with arrows indicating which direction to go. this insure that you can get to almost all exhibits. except a lot of places are under construction
However I really enjoy the train ride on a 2ft Narrow gauge railroad
Traci Dyck
Went to zoo lights and it was so neat, great way to get in the holiday spirit.
Von Doll
This was a special event for DPS. I enjoyed the small pep rally some of the zoo folks tried to get going! I participated as a "WHOO" girl...
It makes me sad that living things must be locked up to keep them safe. I am glad that I do get the chance to see the beautiful things God created. One of the elephants seemed neurotic, rocking himself and swinging his trunk in a circle...
Overall, it is obvious that the animals are cared for and the zoo is so much better than it was when I was a child.
Courtney Yang
This was the most beautiful Christmas set up I have ever been to! Everything was covered in lights! It was amazing. Some of the animals were out too which was super cool. We saw elephants, lions, seals, llamas, and we even got to see them feed the penguins! It was a great experience and well worth the ticket price. I think it took us over an hour to walk through the whole thing.
Brittney Garrett
I took my family to the zoo recently. It was a nice day (in the mid 60s). There are plenty of spots to grab a bite to eat and use the restroom which is important with 3 children. A lot of the animals weren't out which was a bummer as they were ones we were excited to see. The bear exhibit is really unique and worth a viewing, even though it was one where the bear wasn't anywhere to be seen. I suggest visiting this zoo if you haven't been or are looking for something to take the kids to do.
Will Stark
Kids loved it, wasn't too crowded, and they serve beer and other canned cocktails.
zachary slott
Very good zoo. Winter time was a weird time to go but they were open and they had most animals out in their paddocks. We got super lucky to see the lions roaring, the hippo out of the water eating, the condors on their perch, and vultures doing what ever the hell they do when there's no dead body to feast on.
Zeroh “Z” Wilken
We went back in July and my daughter had a blast. Her favorite part (and mine too) were the sloths! She was so excited when we reach their habitat that she tried to climb the tree!
Jessica Billings
Always a wonderful place for the family! New animals coming soon. Gloomy days are not the greatest, but less crowded. Very accommodating for the current situations. Still able to bring your own food and food places are still available through mobile ordering.
Marcus Young
Old zoo but I still had a good time
Heather Mires
Really nice zoo! They have parking onsite near the main entrance. They also have a great gift shop as well as food & beverage available for purchase. The animals seem well cared for and the habitats are clean and well maintained.
Jason Layman
Spacious exhibits compared to some other larger zoos. Well maintained grounds. Staff, especially the volunteers, were helpful and insightful.
S B
Update: plenty of sanitizing stations and the facilities are cleaned regularly.
Stingray Cove is a must see and not over priced to enter or feed the animals.
Fun little cabana next to it with tacos and margaritas.
No one under 16 can feed or enter the stingray exhibit without an adult present.
Always recommend getting a year pass if your a local. Save yourself some money and keep this wonderful zoo well funded. (7/17/21)
Beautiful exhibits, staff is very friendly and helpful with answering questions.
Recommend getting a year pass-%10 off food and drinks, %20 off souvenir shops.
At the brewery stands purchase the souvenir glass and that combined with your year pass gets your drink cheaper and it’s worth it! It’s pricey the first time because you are purchasing the glass, but when you bring it with you for your next beer it’s cheaper.
Purchase the souvenir soda cup for around $5 and then your refills are around $1.50.
You can pack in lunches and find plenty of places to sit and eat.
Parking is a little snug since it is next to the museum and if the museum is packed unfortunately some people come and park at the zoo and walk over to the museum. Taking spots away from people trying to go to the zoo.
Sadly it happens a lot and I’ve seen it all to often. Frustrating!
Come at opening time and you will have easy parking. Come at lunch time and it’s much harder to find parking.
Manifa Safarian
We had a great time walking and exploring animals, spent 2 hours here, big bonus parking was free and unlimited. If u have kids definitely recommend this place.
Aaron Evarts
You can't go wrong with this zoo. Just need less construction! 1/4 of it has been closed for 2 years! Lots a great stuff. The tiger and elephant exhibits are amazing! Lots of animals and easy to get around. Beer is served at some vendors! Only bad thing is it gets crazy busy in the summer months on the weekends. Parking is tough. I try taking the family early to avoid most of it. Lots of new and updated stuff. It's not the biggest zoo out there but located in the heart of Denver. Otherwise it's a good zoo.
Nicole Lares
I love the Denver Zoo. They have improved all exhibits. Today was perfect. We caught 3 shows and learned so much. Highly recommended
Jason Pelot
We love the zoo and all the stuff to climb on!
Patricia Garcia
It was a great Zoo to visit, prices may be a little steep for all they offer but it’s all for good cause. We bought tickets to ride the railway & it was nice. The conductor has a stand to set my beer down for the ride. He was friendly & my boys really enjoyed the monkeys there & I enjoyed the pretty flamingos.
Tina LeBoeuf
The zoo was very nice. All the animals were out. The reason I'm giving three stars is because we had a giraffe feeding that I paid extra for and they said that we missed it when I know I scheduled it for two o'clock. So they don't do refunds they offered us to feed the camels. I have to say that was not very exciting and anyway shape or form. I know they do their best to take care of their animals with the animals were very dirty. At first they weren't letting us feed the camels. The worker was just feeding and talking. I'm like do we get to feed them she's like well no and I'm like okay that's what we paid for. So I think me and my two friends were able to give them each two snacks. It's not worth it don't pay for it. So extremely disappointed..
Deborah Proulx
Loved the 4D show. The whole thing was so real. Birds exhibit was my favorite animal.
Tafadzwa L
The animals didn't want to come out lol it was too hot
Ida Emry
Our family enjoyed the zoo. Everyone was courteous. We had a nice picnic in a field of daffodils. We didn't get to see bear or tigers though.
Frank Anderson
The Denver Zoo is fun for the whole family. It's laid out very well and easy to get around. Food and drink prices were a little high. Would suggest to bring your own food and snacks. Over all its a well keep place.
Jesse Edmondson
My kids and I are members. We love the zoo. They do a great job. It's actually kind of nice going in the winter because there aren't as many people! 🙂
Raymond Dunne
I haven't visited as a patron, I have done work there. It's only a bit less boring than City Park. The animals look very unimpressed. I'm not a fan of zoos as it is, I don't believe they should exist but that's just my opinion. There are plenty of ways to learn about animals, they don't need to be on display at a place they don't belong. They belong out in their natural habitat, come what may. It's the way nature intended. But certain groups of people seem to think nature is wrong and that they have to try and "fix" things. They think everything in the world should live forever. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about life but the facts are the facts. If everything lived forever, everything would be extinct before long. Nature must be left to do what nature does, balance. Nobody can change that and they shouldn't be trying... Live and let die.
C Hara-Smith
Always love visiting the zoo, so many great animals and the food selection has gotten better. Only downfall is that the trash was a bit full and there were a lot of bees flying around the trash making it difficult to eat nearby. Otherwise always a great visit
Jeanie Smith
Really nice zoo. The shows were cool. I went with a conference on a Friday night. The zoo was only open for us. Not sure how much tickets were bc they were included in our total conference price.
Mike Krasinski
Was really impressed with how nice this zoo is. Some things weren't opened but its just the time of the year. The animals were very active today so that was entertaining to watch.
Brandon Hardy
Very nice zoo. Big variety of animals and good amenities around the park. I wish the animals could have more room in their exhibits though :(
Sigma TAS
Beautiful zoo right in the heart of Denver! Great place to bring the kids.
Janet Ingram
We went for my daughter's birthday. It's an annual event. She loves feeding the bird's.
Kettering
This is a nice zoo. The exhibits are designed in a way to provide visitors with a minimally obstructed view of the animals. Very few fences used relative to most other zoos. For traffic was very light in the middle of the week, making social distancing very easy to achieve.
Joel McClurg
I've been coming to this zoo for years and the changes they have been making to the exhibits are beautiful. The elephant pavilion in particular feels like you're transported to a different place and the landscaping throughout the zoo is next level and worth a visit alone with beautiful flowers and plants and art installations everywhere.
The food offerings are so incredibly threadbare, however. With covid you can only walk in one direction through the zoo and it literally took us an hour to get to a restaurant that served something other than greasy beer fries or nachos or grilled cheese. I don't think there's a single green salad for sale in the entire zoo. In addition, online ordering was down so there was a very slow "one family at the indoor register at a time" process in place which could be improved by allowing orders through the app. The food we did have tasted good however.
Finally stingray cove feels super out of place. It's basically a petting zoo with a huge merchandise kiosk and loud music blasting. It feels like such a stressful situation for those animals at a zoo that seems to otherwise care deeply about animal welfare and conservation.
Justin Case
It just gets better and BETTER!
can't wait to get back there
A FANTASTIC time
ALWAYS !
Denton Weimer
What a great place to bring your family, the employees really care about the animals here. I would suggest this place to anyone the enclosures were very clean, the elephant show was a lot of fun and educational. This place is huge make sure you bring a good set of walking shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen trust me, you'll be glad you did.
Cody bill 303
You can’t beat a Denver Zoo one of the best zoos in the United States I love the reptile house and they have done so much expanding the last few years this is very good to see. It was a little bit cold on the day that we went so there wasn’t as many animals out. If you were going to go I suggest going on a warmer day so you will get to see all the animals. I know the Denver zoo does a lot for conservation and it is a great place to support.
Emily T.
Great zoo. The animals have a good space to move around in and the grounds seem to be well maintained. They also have placed directional arrows to encourage flow of traffic and social distancing. Overall its a great place for both children and adults.
Out Standing in a field
This is a nice zoo and entry is cheap. I go to every zoo I am near and this has some nice displays. The parking is terrible, but that is due to lack of space.
The indoor exhibits are very nice.
Highly recommended.
James Sanders
I've been coming to This zoo my entire life it keeps getting better
SamSlime
For the positives, the place is open and have maps everywhere, indoor and outdoor exhibits, food, and some other buildings
For the not so great stuff, most animals don't move much, the food is incredibly expensive and some areas require another ticket like the stingray exhibit
Overall I'd say it's worth going to but I wouldn't but any extra stuff
Shirley Me
Trip to the zoo was fun! We were pleasantly surprised that more exhibits were open than we thought there would be. The amphibian house was open with a very short line and the primates buildings were open as well. The primate buildings though were packed with a long line so we passed it up but were still able to see the gorillas from outside. There were quite a few exhibits though with no animals. It was a hot day so there were probably inside. The baby rhino was adorable! We didn't see the baby lion Cubs though unfortunately. All in all the zoo was well prepared for the covid restrictions and staff were placed around the park to help with directions.
frank44mag frank
Wonderful zoo .. if you're in Denver.. make this a need to see.
Matthew Henderson
We had a good time the animals were out and jumping around. We had fun
Ricky tricky
My first time her. Excellent service to all my family and friends. Very safe and family friendly. The animals are very happy 😁. I recommend it to everyone that wants to 🙈 it. The staff are very helpful and nice 👍. Thanks again for your service. 🐕🦺 …

First time visit, the zoo is beautiful. We visited right after a big snow a lot of the animals were moved and a lot of the park was closed due to COVID. We still had a great time walking around and seeing those animals that were out. The lego build of animals were also pretty cool. They did have the gift shop and some food places open. There was not many people at all and felt like we had the zoo to ourselves. We will for sure be back hopefully to see all the beautiful animals we missed.
alicia davis
Animals wasnt very active, but always fun when you go. So much to see. Need more selections of food, not so expensive. Very friendly staff. Love it
Destiny DeNeir
Today was mom son day to celebrate completion of 6th grade!!!!! We took short cut. Played with the stingrays, but was too scared to feed them so we dropped food for them!!! Had the BEST DAY WITH ANIMALS, PICNIC AND MY SON!!! There is lots of construction going on...penguins 🐧 are getting new exhibit spot, at front gate where dik diks and meerkat were. They still have them just ask where to find them. Polar bears are unfortunately no longer apart of Denver as the weather here is not good for them. Bird world getting complete overhaul...which is great news...can't wait to see new exhibits. Friendly staff.. so excited to spend more summer hours at 'our' (Denver) zoo!!! Got tickets week before online...downloaded app...ready to go back tomorrow!!!!
