Besides the excruciatingly long wait for an appointment, (I booked it in October, and the earliest was today 1/4/23 at the Boston 'Haymarket' RMV, which is pretty far from me) everything was awesome! Security guards at the outer door ask to see your appointment confirmation email. Then after taking the elevator to the 2nd floor, there was no line at the first desk to check in. She simply asked for my phone # to verify my appointment. I waited no more than 15 minutes for my number to be called. The waiting room wasn't busy, there were plenty of open seats, and even wall outlets and USB ports about every 20 feet. When my number was called, the lady was super nice and accommodating. She asked for my completed application (I had filled it out online a couple of days ago, but didn't have a chance to print it. She printed it in seconds and had me sign it. I took the new photo, paid the $25 fee, and was done! This was probably my quickest RMV appointment of all time. (Arrived at 4:30, walking out the door at 4:50)

Food and more. Train and bus service. Fast service as long as you have the paperwork you need. Parking and traffic may be tricky 💓but you got this your a Boston Driver 😉 Construction 🚧🚧🚧 zones. As of 6/2022 Appointments Only.

Been there twice so far and the first experience was very terrible , an Asian male staff at the counter was very rude and treated all my documents very harshly even down to a common signature. He threw them at me after reading the papers, is this the respectful action that should be taken? But I put up with it that time for my license to be processed smoothly. The two stars deducted are for him.
The second time I went there, the staff and supervisor were very nice and everything went quickly,they deserve full points.

I went to renew my driver's license and get one with a real ID.
As everyone says, please make an appointment and bring your appointment confirmation with you (on your phone) when you visit. There's a line for people with an appointment, and a line without an appointment. As I made an appointment, I was able to get in there quicker so it went smoother for me. I'm not sure how the process is for people without an appointment, but it will go much smoother if you make one.
Before going in, Security will ask for your email confirmation, which you can show them on your phone. To check in, they give you a few options. You can check in on your phone, or go up the stairs and check in at the kiosk, by entering in your appointment confirmation code, which is what I did. By doing so, it'll print you a ticket, and you wait for them to call your ticket number.
The staff was very nice once I was called up. They asked for the two page application (make sure to complete this prior to coming here to make it easier), required documentation (I was both renewing my driver's license and getting a real ID), and how you'll be paying. From the time I walked inside the building to when I finished the process with the staff, it took roughly 20-25 minutes.
To summarize, make an appointment reservation and complete your two page application before coming here. In addition, make sure your go to the RMV website so you know exactly what documentation to bring for lawful presence, SSN, and proof of residency.

Appointment at 10:20am, checked in with the texting option. Got called at 10:40am, got everything done by 11am.
If you have everything ready, it will be super smooth and easy for the staff and for yourself. Even if you don’t know some parts in the application or what not, the customer service agent was very helpful answering my question, and the staff who did my registration/out of state license transfer were very kind and helpful.
You have to know that they may sound mean but that’s how they can survive amongst mean/weird customers. They are actually pretty good with what they do!!

I had an appointment to get my Real ID. The RMV was clean and comfortable. I only waited about 7 min to get called and was finished with my paperwork exactly 15 min after my appointment time. This was a very pleasant experience and certainly exceeded my expectations.

Went a lot smoother then I thought. Just make sure you make an appointment. The message when you call states you can go on a walk in visit,. Not so true supposedly only 10 people can walk in on a daily basis. I found out the hard way. So schedule an appointment, to be safe.

HI I recently came to the registry in person after so manty attempts to renew my license online. With no appointment's available throughout Massachusetts I was became very frustrated and annoyed. I needed a Cori check for my upcoming school term and I felt that I would have had my license already. Not knowing the difficulty of trying to book an appointment in Boston alone would be such a challenge. Upon my arrival at the registry I was greeted by the security in front, I was asked if I had
an appointment and I proceeded to explain to him my situation briefly. He immediately responded with telling me that I would need an appointment and that no one is going to see me without one.. I then asked if I could see a manager and he again said it won't matter but you can still see the sergeant, I agreed and went in to speak with him. The gentleman at the desk asked me what was the problem and I let out a big sign and went on to tell him my situation, he sat back and crossed his fingers and I immediately felt as though I had his attention which gave me a sense of relief because he was attentive and patient. i am the care taker of both of my parents and I work a fulltime job and I attend school. My life/schedule is very busy, and to be in a situation that I was in where I felt I kept hitting deadens. turned around for me in that moment that your sergeant Officer Edward White first off listened and I was very informative and had many other options for me and was even helping at that moment to find an appointment for me.. With this all said I feel that the way he presented himself makes me see why he is in his position he was professional, compassionate and willing to assure that I didn't walk away uncertain, and as a person who her self has a lot of patience and would go the extra mile to help a person is why I commend this Gentleman so much.. He along with his supervisor came together and came through for a at the time uncertain human. I have spoken highly of your business and the employees who represent. Despite the horrendous reviews online, I found the people friendly and professional. The waiting area was huge, comfortable chairs and squeaky clean. Yes I had to sit and wait over an hour to be seen, but once I was at the counter, it took less than 10 minutes to complete my registration and title.

They work pretty organised way! Nice social distancing is practiced here. If you have an appointment you would need around 30-60 min to complete drive license. They have only a few free street park which is very hard to get. Need to do coin parking!

The Asian lady that works there it’s very rude. She said she is the manager but should be fired right away. She’s rude on all levels. She will leave my appointment on multiple occasions without saying where she’s going and go talk to people and take forever so I was upset and i went after her and she looks at me and then looks away as if it doesn’t matter. When she finally returned, I was trying to explain the whole situation, but she wouldn’t help hear me out, but she won’t even let me explain or complete my sentences. I asked to talk to the boss and she said to go to window 21 that’s my boss. I came and talk to this person at windows 21 who was polite and heart everything I had to say, and ended up helping me out. But the Asian lady who has no manners and thinks she can act in whatever way it’s because she’s a manager should be fired.

I was able to resolve the problem that required my presence at Haymarket RMV, which was to renew my driver's license including the new real ID. However the process was a bit stressful specifically because I arrived 15 minutes before my appt and waited in line for about 25 minutes. When I was finally helped the agent told me that I had to reschedule because I was late for the appointment. He said that there was nothing he could do and that I had to reschedule. When I explained that I was on time, but had to wait in line the agent did not seem to care. Well, I went back to the entrance and spoke with the guard that was organizing the access to the building and he offered assistance. The guard collected my appointment print-out, went upstairs and spoke with a nice Lady that helped me. I received a new appointment number and was able to finally complete the renewal of my license 🙌. I am glad these two folks understood my situation and helped me out. For your information, if you have an appointment scheduled you will not have to wait in line. The notes by the entrance does not say that so it can be easily confusing. So keep in mind that there are people at the RMV that does not care about all the misinformation and there are others that are understanding and are willing to assist. I am happy I didn't have to come back there again. I could have given a 5 star if it wasn't the issue I had at the beginning. Good Luck! 👍 you gonna need it.

I was here to get my ID upgraded to real ID. I had made an appt and did the application online beforehand. I had brought *6* proofs of residency just in case! My appt was around 1:30 but I got there around 12:40. It was about 20 L's behind my number but I got called around 1:15? The woman was really nice, the only issue was her computer had to be restarted so if that hadn't happened, it probably would have been done before my appt time. I'm very thankful I did not have the issues other reviewers did. I was so concerned about my paperwork not being good enough and being turned away but everything was fine. I don't picture I'll ever need the real ID anyway but in case I do, I can feel secure that I have it and it was not a hassle. The traffic going there and home was the hassle! Lol

CRYSTAL ROAD TEST INSTRUCTOR FROM HAVERHILL REGISTRY OF MOTOR VEHICLE IN MASSACHUSETTS IS A RACIST RUDE WOMAN...she have long fake nails and eyelashes her hair is black .please Stop promoting hateful and racism Chrystal calling me racial slurr inside the REGISTRY OF MOTOR VEHICLE...UNDER ALL THE CAMERAS. I have booked 4 road test at Haverhill registry this instructor lady name Crystal with black hair was rude called me this African woman to her supervisor on the phone...took the rest of the conversation outside. Suggested her own mechanic for me to get my loose brake fix. Suggested their own auto school to pay $200 for a 20 minutes road test...did all that
and still managed to stop the test because this time my e brake is loose cannot be fix in couple hours...I just had it check by a different shop the mechanic said the E brake is fine...and charged me $ 35 for me doing absolutely nothing wrong and the car is no normal condition the mechanic just said...2 drivers took their road test 2 weeks ago with this vehicle at a different location...I was treated so unfairly and rudely. And politely asked for her name she replied as as government workers she cannot released her full name and wrote Christal on a piece of paper and gave it back to me...I am glad they have working cameras at the registry to confirm her rudely and unjust behaviors towards me. The manager who worked that day fully supports her hateful and racism slurred said loud in presence of other customers.

We recently moved from NY and were dreading coming to the RMV because of our terrible experiences from the NY DMV. This location exceeded our expectations! Our agent, Majlinda, not only was patient with us putting our paperwork together, but even delayed her lunch break to process my husband and I’s new licenses and car registration. She went above and beyond what we anticipated would be such a grueling process and now I’m very proud to be an MA resident.

On one hand, I got my license renewed pretty quickly, in and out of the doors within 20 minutes. On the other hand, I feel like I’ve lost months of my life from how intense the experience was… They are not a welcoming bunch

It's a pretty seamless experience as long as you are prepared. I would not recommend going if you do not have an appointment, I saw many people turned away. FILL OUT THE APPLICATION BEFORE YOU COME! It'll make your life MUCH easier.
When you arrive to the building, you will stand in a line according to your appointment time. You can come to your appointment maybe 30 minutes in advance but earlier than that they'll probably tell you to come back.
Once you're inside, they'll ask you what you're there for and if you filled out your application. If you didn't, you need to fill it out and then they'll give you a number. Doing it in advance will tell you what documents you need in order for this experience to go seamless. I did all of this and was in and out in like 15 minutes.
Clerk at window 27 is SO NICE! She made my experience the best part, very nice, funny, and was straight forward. I like the lucky cat she had at her desk :) Anyway, like I said the overall experience is totally find and not even that long just as long as you are prepared with the right documents and filled out application that they send you via email when you make the appointment.

I went there December 15, 2022 to get my ID renewed and it was the fastest process ever and it came a week after me doing it everybody's complain about this place when there's nothing to complain about going there you get called in you leave they handle everything in there literally there shouldn't be a problem unless you're really coming in here without the proper stuff you should've been bringing.

Best RMV experience ever! Credits to the staff member—Damion Collins. Despite unexpected technical issues with card reader (that timed out repeatedly) and online transaction, I was able get my license renewed because of him. Unfortunately, I only had little cash and Damion was extremely generous and kind to offer help (without me asking) and went above and beyond so that I could get my work done. Wow. I was shocked. Clean, organized, respectful, and fast. I have never had a DMV/RMV experience like this one. I was in and out in an hour with great respect and efficiency. Highly recommend!

This was surprisingly a lot more PAINLESS an experience than I had expected. Staff was very professional with and courteous to visitors. My only annoyance was because of the pandemic. I waited with others a full hour outside -- within proper physical distance from other visitors -- before security allowed us to enter in groups of 10 or so. Luckily, it was a beautiful day outside. I stopped to use the complimentary touchless hand sanitizer before proceeding upstairs. There also were hand sanitizers upstairs on the main floor as well as on your way out of the building. Anyway, wear your mask correctly and get here to check in with security at least an hour before your scheduled appointment. By the way, speak with security if there's something that impairs your ability to take the stairs. In case I wasn't clear, wear a mask! You'll be allowed to briefly remove it if your appointment involves getting your picture(s) taken.

I got a walk in appointment, but it was a huge pain. Come at 7 am or 730 at the latest. Don’t count on them letting more people in at 1 pm.
They only let 15 people in the first day I came, and the second day, they only let in 10. According to some people in the line, they sometimes let 30 people in, but I didn’t witness this personally. However, if you show up and there’s already 30, save yourself some time and just go home.
Yesterday I came at 8 and there were 38 people ahead of me. Like I said, only 15 people got in that day, so I had to come back. Today, I came at 7 and got the 6th spot, but your mileage may very. A girl in front of me said she came at 7 am yesterday, got the 23rd spot, and after all that, didn’t get in. If you can, definitely schedule an appointment online, or see if AAA offers the service you need. I couldn’t wait 2 weeks for an appointment and AAA doesn’t do motorcycle permits, so unfortunately I was subjected to this walk in experience
I heard that they sometimes let more people in at 1 pm, but like I said above, don’t count on this. The lady behind me and the guy in front of me both said she they back at 1 after getting turned away in morning and they weren’t letting anyone in at all.

Y'all, let me tell you about Jenny, the Registry Angel. I was in tears on Tuesday after being turned away from the RMV because my insurance stamp was 2 days expired.....this lovely lady turned all my negative RMV feelings around when they let me come back on Wednesday. Jenny is the wonderful human who processed my plates yesterday, and for her great attitude and her endless one liners and jokes to make me smile, I just want to say thank you from the bottom if my heart. She completely diffused the RMV tension with jokes about the "auditing Grendel" and the printing of the new title in the "depths of the scary basement." Jenny, thank you for making my day, and if the RMV islistening, I think you need a raise.
As to the rest of my RMV nightmare in which my car has been sitting in my driveway from mid-July to early December....
1. As my NC registration was about to expire, I got a $55 fine for letting my insurance lapse in NC because, shocker, I couldn't get my plates changed right away up here in MA due to the few available appointments due to COVID-19.
2. I had to pay $25 wait 12 weeks for a replacement title because I was a dumb dumb and left the original in my storage unit in NC, something which would usually take two weeks, but Ms. Corona said nahhhhhhh.
3. Tried to get an appointment on a Monday so I wouldn't have to ask off from work. Couldn't get said day, so I got a Wednesday appointment in PLYMOUTH. I live in Shrewsbury and work in Cambridge. I took an hour off the end of the work day, thinking this would be sufficient.
4. It was not sufficient. Started driving and stuck behind 3 accidents later, I was 30 minutes late to my appointment in PLYMOUTH and the security guard would not let me in despite there being no one in line and there being 20 mins left until they closed. My appointment with Jenny took less than 20 mins, do better, RMV Plymouth.
5. I rescheduled my appointment (FOR ANOTHER WEDNESDAY) two weeks out because the appointments only open 2 weeks at a time, but this time it was in Haymarket, which is a 6 min drive from work.
7. Left work an hour early and took the T to avoid crazy parking costs, made it with 10 mins to spare, had literally everything I needed and more. Made it up to the pre-check lady, "Oh your insurance stamp is out of date by 2 days, you're going to have to get a new one, print it out, and come back tomorrow."
8. Back on the T in tears of frustration back to my mom's car, I went on the GEICO app to see if I could get a new stamp without calling and waiting on hold. Got exactly what I needed in my email in 5 mins. BUT THE RMV WON'T ACCEPT DIGITAL FORMAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
Moral to the RMV, y'all accept credit cards now, you should be able to do virtual appointments and accept emailed documents. But since things still must be accomplished in person and with physical paper, thank you once again, Jenny. Keep being your magical self.

Good experience overall compared to other MA RMV centers I've been to. Nicely organized and clean. I arrived 10-15 min earlier than my appointment time and had no problems as the lines moved quickly. The person at the counter was reasonably friendly and efficient, and I was out in 25-30 minutes. I'll return to the Haymarket location in the future instead of driving out into the suburbs where my past experiences were a nightmare.

My husband and I had made an appointment to transfer our out of state licenses and registration. We brought the required docs (per the website) and everything went smoothly and quickly. Everyone was friendly and the woman who helped me (number 10 counter) had me laughing in stitches. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at a DMV/RMV before…Definitely 5 stars!

There’s an immensely bad stigma associated with state DOTs, DMVs/RMVs, and rightfully so. But at this particular location, I was remarkably impressed! I guarantee that so many of the negative reviews for RMVs are by people who didn’t print and fill out forms online ahead of time, or didn’t research at all on the website. There’s an online feature to track the wait time for licensing and registration, which is super helpful in this area. I called twice on the phone when they first opened on different days, and both clerks were super friendly and personable and helpful. So much of this state is rough and mean, but these guys definitely were a nice welcome to Boston. Also, be advised that there is NO on-site parking lot, so your best bet is to take a Lyft or public transportation.

Had the best experience. The guys were great at pointing you at the direction you had to go to. Very helpful and friendly. Unlike in NJ where they sucked at their jobs. These guys were great. Just have your documents ready and don't forget that these guys are doing their job and be nice.

My first RMV experience was amazing! I originally scheduled my appointment for 9:40 AM on Monday, but I decided to arrive about 45 minutes early just because. The police officer checked me in right away and I was proceeded into the building. COVID rules are followed well. I was assigned to the booth #13. The lady was not overly friendly or anything but she was very quick and organized. I was also respectful towards her. Finally, I was out within 10-15 minutes. I had all my documents ready to go and filled out my application online. If you come prepared with signed and completed documentation, you will be in and out.

Everyone behind the counters and security here has been great to me so far, but everytime I come to this location in the early AM, the women who does the check in as soon as you reach the second floor is incredibly rude. She is the exact persona of what people imagine when they go to the DMV/RMV. She will make it her mission to not let you in for the smallest thing that even she messed up on. She constantly gets her own forms mixed up, and when you tell her you have it, she will still question whether you are being honest with her or not. She needs the boot.
I'd say if you can swing it, go to a location that is further outside the city, this location is a total mad house as well.

I had made an appointment approximately a month ago. I was given a time to show. When I got there, there was few people in line and I checked in, quickly. I hadn't downloaded the application so I had to step out of line to complete that. 5 minutes later I was in line which moved very quickly! 3 minutes later I was standing in front of the representative and I was out of there in an additional 10 minutes. No muss, no fuss. A world away from the days past!

It's the kind of place that everyone avoids. Nobody wants to deal with paperwork and lines. The staff here is sharp and very efficient if you cooperate. If you start telling them how to do their jobs they'll sure make it harder for you, looking for every single detail.
My tip? Don't go there in a bad day. If you need to go there make sure to relax and have all documents and paperwork ready. Attendants will help you in case you need, not everyone, but most of them.
I never had any bad experience here but I sure saw plenty of people go mad when having some demand denied.

Haymarket RMV is extremely busy. 30 counters in operation. Expect 30 minutes wait even with appointment. Show up only with online application or filled physical application. Make an appointment online. Appointments are fully booked for 3 weeks in advance. Service was ok, there was more non-work related interaction between employees, than actual engagement with customers. Make sure the documents you bring are valid and sufficient.

I read so many bad reviews about this place and was terrified to go. But the service there is totally professional. I had an appointment at 12:00 pm. I arrived at 11:30 am and was pointed to the second floor to change my license and registration. I waited for 45 mins inside the building for my number and was able to get out around 12:30 pm. There is no fuss at all. Everyone one there is so nice and respectful. As long as you prepared every document they ask for, there is absolutely NO nightmare. So good luck everyone.

I arrived way before my time just in case I was to get in and out. The check in and social distance setup was very organized from beginning to end. The line was a little long, but it moved pretty fast. This definitely beats sitting and spending just about your whole day waiting for your number to be called.

Went to get an MA license one afternoon and the process went very smoothly. I checked the wait time online before going and the line to get a number moved pretty quickly. Waiting for my number to be called was probably 20 minutes (max) and the person who attended me was extremely helpful and very friendly. I had forgotten one of my papers and she allowed me to go home to grab it and come back to her without having to get in line again. There's also a computer and printer in the waiting area in case you need to print anything! This was a very smooth, stress-free process for me.

I spent over 2 months and 4 visits to the RMV to transfer my leased car registration from out of state to Mass. The only person who was actually helpful, positive, and patient was an employee named Sammy who made sure I had what I needed and helped me get my car registered. Most other employees I encountered were impatient and failed to give me the full information of what I needed given that my circumstance was more complicated than most. Give Sammy a promotion!

Tried arriving earlier, but reached within the 5 min pre checking, then I end up waiting in the same line until2:50. I understand they're very busy, but the extra wait was due to returning customers getting to jump ahead, & they only let up a certain amount at a time. The delay was due to computers crashed around 11:30 am, but if you went prepared its in & out.

I cannot believe I'm leaving a five-star review for a DMV/RMV office! This was by far the best DMV experience I've ever had: lines moved quickly, staff were very friendly and actually answered questions, no one got yelled at or had stuff thrown at their face (a typical experience at IL DMVs). The two employees who were helping people waiting in line were spectacular; I wish I remembered their names!
I showed up for my Tuesday afternoon appointment about 20 minutes early. After waiting in line for about 20-30 minutes, I was able to finish my application for out-of-state conversion in just 10 minutes!

I just had a good experience at tha RMV. I went to Boston because I could not get an appointment at any of the suburban locations. Parking was easy at the Haymarket garage and the system they have worked very efficiently. The associate who helped me was very friendly and quick. I was in and out much faster than I imagined. I think that the RMV has made improvements and I wanted to say so.

Showed up at 11.15a for my 11.30a appointment to learn systems were down. There’s a long out front and security is attempting to ensure social distancing. After an hour wait, i made it inside. Damien and Chris were very helpful in ensuring my unique circumstance (not my fault) was resolved no matter how long it could them and i was patient because I did not want to have to come back. Thank you for your time and effort; my license has been restored to Active and i didn't have to $450 — just sacrificed patience. Thank you again.

The security staff is on point navigating the public through the doors. Their kind and respectful to the public. One thing that stood out to me was one security staff helping a homeless man get in to see someone despite him not having a cell phone. I was impressed with how respectful he was to this homeless man.. Clearly no one is turned away.

Went to the rmv for my permit test. There was a line at the door so the security officers can regulate the amount of people inside. After waiting close to half an hour I was let in to confirm that I had the appointment.
Then I had to wait to be called which lasted close to an hour. There were not many seatings since everyone had to stay relatively 6 feet apart.
After I was called I was greeted warmly by a nice receptionist who went smoothly through the process with me.
Then I was let out. Long process due to the Corona virus precautions, but still worked out nicely.

They are more strict with paper work, please make sure you have what they asked for, and then some more.
If you are missing 1 document they will turned you away , and tell you to come next time, for that reason I gave them a 4 star because I had to go back the next day.

I went there on 8/31/2021 for transferring out-of-state registration to MA via the drop-off. Very good service - I expected some turnaround time (multiple days) but I got my registration and plates within the same day using the RMV drop-off service!
Make sure to get your forms filled, printed, and all original documents available. I arrived and lined up outside beside the pick-up sign. Lined up for 40 minutes outside, and perhaps another 20 minutes inside. When it's my turn, I showed the filled drop-off cover letter, RTA form, MVU form, original title, OOS registration, and ID. Paid with credit card, and walked out with my new MA registration and new car plates. I expected to pick up those things another day but this is not the case!

Very grateful for the diligence of all RMV employees in helping costumers maintain social distance, cleaning thoroughly, and making things go as smoothly as possible given the circumstances. Wait times are definitely understandable during a pandemic! Expect to arrive on time and wait regardless, it's worth your safety and the safety of others to be cautious and patient.

Made an appointment online, filled out the application for license transfer. We forgot a doc but they heckle you a little, start you app, and then give you a ticket to return within a specified time frame to complete the process without remaking an appointment. Overall was a relatively quick and painless process. Theyre handling covid well with good social distancing and sanitizing

Did the "drop off" for title and registration during COVID. It was a struggle, I had to come back and fix some paper work which was not fun. But here are some lessons learned:
1. For drop off, you first have to wait in line and scan a bar code/send a text. You should get a text with a ticket number and your number in line. For 10 people in front of me it took about an hour. Get there early in the morning (right when they open) and you might be lucky enough to skip the long line.
2. You'll get a text when it's your turn. You'll get a "last call" text in about 15min after the first text.
3. The line inside is usually pretty short for drop off (~15min). The staff inside is very efficient and helpful!

The service was good enough for my purpose, considering the effect of pandemic. I needed to apply for a mass ID onsite and while the waiting line was long, the process itself was very quick. The staffs were friendly.
However, you might want to come later (40-50 mins?) than your online appointment time. In my case the appointment was 2:40pm, but the time I was able to get inside the RMV building was around 3:30pm-3:40pm. Then there was another waiting time around 10-15 mins inside the building.
There's three lines for people who have a specific appointment time (a line for 2:30pm, another for 2:40, etc) and they only let people in a single line at a time. I remember when I arrived at 2:30pm, people in the line 1:50pm were still waiting. I'd suggest you to look for a nearby place to kill time

Expect to wait an hour in line. Showed up one hour BEFORE my appointment and waited in line like the rest of the appointment holders (regardless of what time the appointments where). By the time I received my number to be called up to a teller, it was 5 minuted before my actual scheduled appointment. Staff was friendly, maintained social distancing and constantly wiped down surfaces.

I've been here twice in 10 years and had great service both times. Perhaps I'm just lucky but there was a very short wait and the people who helped me were extremely polite. They did what I needed done fast. I think this location is far better than the one downtown, that's for sure. You just have to make sure to arrive during the off hours when there isn't an hour wait. If people complain about that, that's your own timing issue.

I arrived 20min before opening, already a lot of people waiting. Got my ticket 10min after opening, I saw a agent 15min later and then it took another 10min to have everything done for an out of state conversion.
I was expecting to wait a lot but I guess I arrived just before peak hour. I highly suggest to arrive no later than 8:30am if you want to see an agent quickly.

I could not be more impressed with how this RMV location has handled safety and security during this pandemic. Upon arrival, it was verified outside the building that I had an appointment. I was then asked a series of covid-19 related health questions (i.e. recent travel, possible exposure, whether I had a fever, etc). Even better, they accepted me inside 30 minutes EARLY (an RMV miracle!). Once inside there were Purell hand sanitizing stations throughout and I was promptly seen. After spending no more than 10 minutes inside, I was shown to the exit which was a different route than the entrance, ensuring no close contact with other people. Keep up the good work!

They set you up to make sure that everything runs smoothly, but expect a wait time of around an hour after your appointment time. For me it was about 80 minutes.

The only issue I have is with them saying one thing and doing another. I went this morning and filled out an application to speak with a hearing officer and they told that they would call me before 5pm. Never did. Other than that, I feel it’s being run properly considering the pandemic.

Made an appointment to transfer my out-of-state license, car registration, and vehicle title during this quarantine. Arrived a few minutes before my scheduled time and was let in the building after confirming my appointment with the officers outside. I brought all the required documentation but forgot the MA driver's license application form, which they provided me to fill out while there. Once completed, they immediately called my number to the counter and directed me on where to go.
My trip to the RMV only took 30 minutes overall to transfer my license, registration, and title. I know it's a unique situation because the RMV was not crowded at all due to COVID, but it was the quickest experience at an RMV/DMV I've ever had.

They won't let you line up for your appointment early anymore, but don't let you in until at least 30 minutes after you scheduled time, but once inside it was an overall pleasant experience.
Remember to bring all the forms you need (and extras if you can) and make an appointment!

Me and my bff went here yesterday to get our IDs. We were in at 8:40 a.m. and out by 9:20am No lie. Extremely fast and very efficient. Everybody was pleasant..... On August 14 of 2019, I had received great help from Lindsay of the counter 18 for renewing my out-of-state license and my out-of-state car registration. Thank you, Lindsay! Hope you can help me again! (But the waiting line is long regardless many numbers of counters for services, it took me 2 hrs to finish all the procedure.) Yes, it is the RMV Haymarket branch in Boston. The place is very clean, even the restrooms are fairly well-maintained. The restroom is a benchmark for the cleanness of a place.
As usual as my personal habit, I asked Lindsay several challenging and demanding questions during the 20-30 mins under her service, and she patiently answered me every single question. She gave me a chance to choose a plate number among the plates she has in her counter. (Of course, I proposed and asked her about this first.) I was hoping to get a special number like a 3-digit Prime number. Thank you for the good job, Lindsay and RMV!!!

Today I went to the RMV in North Reading because I had made an appointment on the registry e-mail for Tuesday, May 26, 2020 for 1 pm!!! I actually got an Appointment Reminder from DMV/RMV yesterday.
To my total amazement, the registry was closed today. I think this is ridiculous and disrespectful.
It is difficult enough to try and get things accomplished these days without requiring citizens to make plans over and over!
I expect that the next appt. I make will be honored by the DMV.

There are some negative reviews here, just like what we had experienced in DMV offices in NYC and Philadelphia.
After we moved to Boston two months ago, I prepared a whole day to go to DMV for our car registration and drivers' license conversions. When I got there around 9:30AM, there were 2 long lines. A kind lady agent checked people's situations and directed us to one of the lines. The lines moved pretty fast, about 20 minutes later I was given a number and sitting in the large, bright and clean waiting room. In another 10 minutes, I was called to the window. The agent, Officer Damion Collins took care my case. He is very polite and knowledgeable. In a very short time he finished my 2 requests -- Driver's license conversion and car registration. He even tried his best to help me choose the plate number I preferred. It was unexpectedly for me to take less than an hour from I came in to left this office. I don't know how to express my appreciations to Mr. Damion Collins and his colleagues, but can only say good people, good jobs.
My wife also said she had similar experience in January, 2018 when she had her driver's license conversed, but she forgot the lady's name.

However, when I went to the RMV today full of anxiety about not just the complications that occurred with my specific transaction but also COVID-19, Rosina took care of me very well. I happened to have a catheter and was in extreme pain when I had to renew my license in February (and of course I had to come in for the rather unflattering photo). Arrived Thursday morning at 8:30 AM and there was already a line outside. However, I was pleasantly surprised when an employee came out at 8:40 and announced that they were well staffed enough to open early. From there, the system seemed really well organized; the man who helped me at station 9 (whose name I regretfully don’t remember but I know it starts with K) was incredibly patient and helpful as I tried to figure out which documents I could use to get a real ID. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Robin at the Haymarket Branch. Robin has the best temperment , attitude and approach for working at the Registry . I usually dread going to the registry not because of the long wait but for the brief period that one has to quickly & concisely plead your case before being dismissed or given preprogrammed explanation that doesn’t help . Robin was very patient as she allowed me to explain my complex situation from having purchased a vehicle out of state.. I have been able to get a bunch of things from here when Watertown never provided me with anything. The wait time is short, the system is easy, the staff is friendly and polite, and processes are very smooth, anything you're getting is easily attained if you need it. I definitely recommend this place if you want a good RMV experience.

This is what state services should always look like: fast, easy and effective. I visited a Tuesday afternoon at about 4pm. They were calling my number as soon as I walked in! It took about 10 min total to get my renewal of driver's license with REAL ID done. Well done, MASS GOV!

The RMV is on the second and third floors. I was in and out, in under an hour. Staff was friendly and helpful. The facility is clean, comfortable and modern. It's very close to the Haymarket T stop, on the Green and Orange lines. This is probably the most accessible RMV office if you are traveling by mass-transit. The Boston Public Market is on the first floor.

I don’t understand all the negative reviews. I moved to the area from out of state and needed a Mass. REAL-ID license. My total time there was 30 minutes. Everyone was very professional and courteous, and the process was flawless. Not to mention the convenient T-accessible location. Of all the large cities’ motor vehicle offices I’ve used, this was the best by far.
My only advice is to read and follow the directions on the RMV web site, start your application on-line, and come prepared.

They try to be efficient, and for a government organization, aren't too bad. But the policy of making out-of-state people fly to Boston, and appear in person, just to apply for a hearing (and then fly there, again, for the hearing) is ridiculous and wasteful.

This is the go to registry of motor vehicles. They are in boston and maybe not as accessible as other registries. But they are very experienced and if it is registry related they are the people to fix it. If you need a hearing for an immediate threat - OUI - Hardship etc they are an unlimited number of hearing officers ready to accommodate unlike other registries.

I came in at 3:21pm to renew my license. They didnt get to my group of number till about 4:45 5pm. They called my number close to 5:30is. But that was my fault for going on a Friday at 3. The gentleman that helped me was super nice, I joke with him and the lady in the next window getting ready to go. That's me I'm a nice and patient person.
I watch 1 and 1/2 of my favorite TV shows it takes two. Just be prepared this is very important! When you go having all your documents ready and in order! If your license is expired bring it with you as well as your passport even if it's expired too bring that with you as well. Bring extra documents on the list just incase will save you a second trip be prepared. Do everything online before you go print it out and bring it with you.
Just make sure you go on a day when you don't have anything to do you will need time to sit and wait, watch a movie, read a book, do a crossword puzzle, or play some games on your phone. Bring charger with you because there isn't a plugs to use.💜💜💜😊😊😊🤪🤪🤪

No one looks forward to going to the RMV, but I was very pleasantly surprised how efficient and organized they were. They have also implemented a lot of the conveniences to mitigate the typical frustrations — they offer a computer with a printer to print documents for free, free WiFi, a water dispenser, and they even now accept credit / debit cards for all transactions. I waited for about an hour and did not mind at all because the communication and expectations were all very well structured. Everyone I encountered was friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to be helpful. No complaints and won’t be (too) sad next time RMV day comes!

I was totally freaked out by all the bad reviews and the overall low rating, so I was pleasantly surprised during my trip to the RMV at Haymarket. Everyone that I spoke with was courteous and I experienced only a brief wait. I went in around 11am on a Friday and there was no wait in the orange line. I got my number and waited maybe 15 minutes before being called to the counter. My out-of-state licence was converted and I left with a temporary licence within 25 min of my arrival!

Came here to get my learners permit. The customer service counter guy is very professional and got me the wait number in less than one minute. Then I waited around 20 minutes and the guy helping me get my permit is again so nice and helpful. I highly recommend people apply online first and this really expedite the whole application at RMV as the staff only need the barcode and your supporting documents without any further typing of addresses and such. The restroom at this location is so clean by the way. Totally impressed.

This place should be given 10 star. People here complaining probably have never been to RMVs in other states. I got my out of state License and vehicle registration transfer done in 25 minutes. Yes, you heard me right; in 25 minutes. Lindsay, the officer, at the counter was amazing. I had filled out forms beforehand and had all my documents ready. Few glitches, she solved right at the spot. She was professional, personable, and charming. Well done Lindsay and well done RMV management!

After reading all the articles about the long wait times, I was expecting the worst - but I was pleasantly surprised! I arrived at 8:30am, showed my paperwork to the RMV employee outside and was told to head inside. 20 minutes later, I was done registering my car and converting my out-of-state driver’s license into a RealID. Thanks to CARMEN, who was extremely helpful and cheerful, I was done before the RMV was “officially” open. The key is to complete all your paperwork online and have all your documentation.
