Reviews of Boston Massacre Site
So this memorial is not the actual site of the Boston Massacre. It actually happened across the street from this memorial.
The 5 pointed stars represent the 5 people who were massacred. The 6 bricks surrounding the star represent 6 people who were injured. And the 13 lines of bricks that extend out of the star represent the 13 colonies!
A really cool site that you are bound to pass on a journey throughout Boston. Might be hard to get a photo though since there are a bunch of people trying to snap one.
This was probably my most favorite historical site in the entire city. I walked over from across the street and happened onto a tour group. The guide was friendly and entertaining, and also very knowledgeable and informative on the history of the site. I enjoyed it so much that I actually regret not getting a ticket inside to see the rest of the museum building inside. Definitely going to come back and get a ticket to look inside.
Beautiful area, right in fron of the first English leader ruled and later became the Old State House.
What history Boston has! Our little adventure from the UK. We will be back.
Peter & Lynne
Very important part of Boston and our history. It’s a part of the Freedom Trail.
Nothing comparable to standing where history was made and seeing what others saw hundreds of years ago. There is so much that is well preserved and documented. It is really cool to come up out of a subway and find yourself in the middle of a famous building and be able to pick right up on the liberty trail.
The juxtaposition of this building in the city is beautiful! The site of the Boston massacre where a total of 5 people died back in 1770 is also a museum! The museum does have an entrance fee.
COVID Safety rating: 9/10, pretty safe. Some parts of the inside is a bit tight and social distancing can be limited if there’s 10 or more people in there. They do have hand sanitizer and a limit of people that can enter. Also I believe their gift shop was closed so people don’t linger.
We went during the early afternoon on a Friday and it wasn’t too busy.
Yes, I know.....it's a large marker on the ground, not too exciting. The 5 stars is for the historical importance and what happened on this spot.
The mark is on the street. It’s big just right in front of the building, so you won’t miss it.
Wey interesting place to see and visit. It is near to see a place that I've heard so much about from history books and put into perspective where something like this happened.
Walk the Freedom Trail. You will see everything historically Boston has to offer. Wonderful city with plenty to do!
Walking with the crowd and listening to the declaration of independence being read was an amazing experience.
Such a great feeling to be "walking around history"; I love how this place makes everyone reflect upon the events of 1770 that led up to the American Revolutionary War and the path to the freedom we enjoy today. The building itself is unassuming and quaint but once you start appreciating all the details, not only in the architecture but the positioning of the building in the city, you'll see that it's more than just a site, but a place rich in history and many other characteristics. A must see when visiting Boston
One of the important stops on the Freedom Trail in Boston is the site of the Boston Massacre that took place just outside the Old State House on 5 March 1770. Many consider this event to be a catalyst for the eventual American Revolution that saw the colonies formally part ties with the British Crown.
The site is marked by a seal upon the location where British soldiers, being harassed by a mob, fired upon a crowd, killing 5 colonists. There are plenty of opportunities to learn about this monumental event in American history as you make your thought the Freedom Trail attractions in Boston. However, at this location, you simply see the seal marking the location of the event.
You can conveniently take in a viewing of the seal and location in a couple minutes before going onward into the Old State House or over to Faneuil Hall depending on which directly you are going as part of your Freedom Trail visits go. As such, it is an easy sight to take in if you are sightseeing in the area.
We all learnt about the Boston massacre which was one of the triggers towards the American Revolution.
I am glad I had the opportunity to visit this place now in my 50's.
It's a circle cobblestone marker on the ground in front of the Old State House.
An important stop on the Freedom Trail and nice photo op.
Learn this location. It's a good central spot for meeting up. The T comes out under the building.
Good place to see the historical area... Have to walk a lot... Don't go during sunny time...
It's a nice historical marker, very interesting.
Great stop on the historical walking trail. Make sure to ask about the key to the building from the hotdog vendor beside the building. Also if it's a hot day or you are Hungary head down the street to the farmers market or Quincy Market for some treats. Farmers market is definitely less touristy.
Excellent tour that gave me a new understanding and reality of the revolutionary war period and the key people who played a role in era. Amazing, and sad, but educational.
Very busy right now so we didn’t park and walk around. It definitely stood out from the rest of the city! So you can’t miss it. There was a lot of people walking around, some wear masks some weren’t. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon in Boston.
One of my favorites on the trail! It was such a feeling to stand where so much history has taken place! We even bought some tea that was pushed into the harbor all those years ago!
Worth seeing for it's historic significance. I was amazed that it was surrounded by modern Boston. This is not in some historic park or preserve but right in the midst of modern, commercial Boston. Take the Olde Town Trolley tour, and it will let you get off across the street from this site. I understand that the Declaration of Independence was first read in public here as well.
Would have been nice to have a more visual sign of exactly where it happened. Gift shop was nice but your typical overpriced tourist gift shop cheapest thing I saw in there was a large pencil for a little kid Boston stuff on it $3 there's also a Lobster Claw pen for $5 not very many toys or anything for kids though really
They probably explain more about this site during paid tours. I wish there was more info at the actual site though. Interesting.
Worth the $10 tour. We had the best tour guide! She made the history come to life as she explained the history leading up to the Boston Massacre and the Revolutionary War.
Very interesting historical site. So many things that I learned from college history.
5 stars for being historic but really, a sad reminder about how some things never change, especially in light of genocides currently occurring in certain parts of the world. How many more of these sites are we going to erect to keep us from killing each other?
Beautiful historic place. In covid times everything was quite and smooth.
I hear so much about Boston Massacre. I think it very important for America. When I first come here I walk over without me realize. Later I see the circle. Boston is amazing city where I feel I walk through history. Too bad there is not bigger memorial here for Boston Massacre. In my photo you see small brick circle on ground. That is Boston Massacre site.
General site of boston massacre with commemorative cobblestone circle. Building now has a subway entrance in the basement. Building interior still closed due to COVID as of May 2021.
Historically cool to see!
Very historical there here in Boston. It is also the site we have the Constitution was read for the first time...
I went on a walking tour and it was very informative, I enjoyed the history lesson
Great walking distance from several historic sites. Very Clean area and a great tour is available.
Really great place to visit and learn some early American history.
I did the Freedom tour. I enjoyed listening to the history from our guide. I would recommend going on the tour however, do the tour on your own
It's a 5 star as it's well maintained and knowing the the place where massacre happened in 1770 makes you appreciate history.
It is cool if you like history just wish it was more than a circle on the ground.
Piece of American History. Right in front of the old state house. well marked and easy to find. It is on the Freedom Trail. Make sure you read a little bit about the event- refresh yourself- prior to coming to the marker, it will help you to appreciate the site more.
Great history along the freedom trail.
Deffinitly the coolest place on the Freedom trail. This is a must when visiting!!!!
It is where the British provoked their people in the faraway land. The rest is the history.
Pretty cool spot. Surreal to think this was a integral part of the beginning of our great nation.
Truly beautiful history here with info signs that tell the history well
Tour guide's talk was a little too politically charged.
250 years ago this spot marks the beginning of the American revolution. Actors are volunteers. Important stop on the freedom trail.
Very patriotic spot. Was honored to have spent it with most of my kids and Grandchildren.
We saw this as part of the Freedom Trail walking tour. Great tour with a lot of history.
Such amazing amount of American History in such a historic area. With plenty of places to eat plenty of things to see and do. Parking is somewhat Limited. Do what we did and pay $25 and parked in a parking lot.
Lots of nice history behind this place but as of now it's mostly just modern buildings
The guide recounted the event with a lot of details that the legend is often missing, that was valuable and super interesting. History buffs will definitely enjoy this site and the whole freedom trail exhibit.
I am a history lover. Needless to say the freedom trail is something every one should do at least once in a lifetime. The rich history if my country. The people and events that framed our culture. No one is perfect yet is amazing the sacrifice upon the beliefs of each and all the people who gave their lives for freedom. 🙏 …
There isn't much info about the massacre unless you go into the old state House museum. There is a $15 entry, but worth it in my mind (history professor here). Waking the halls of such a venerable location is thoughtfully chilling, and the exhibitions are interesting and balanced.
Nice memorial for the event. For almost being in the street, the traffic seems planned fairly well around it. Cool views of the front of the old state house from here, too.
Great site!! There is a museum in the old statehouse that gives yours about the Boston massacre that are very well done.
Take the audio guided tour offered by the Freedom Trail foundation for $15
Boston is very beautiful and so clean Great place to visit
Cool area to walk around and learn some history.
This is one of the best places in Boston that you must visit
Walked the freedom trail and the walk may not be for people who are not used to walking a few miles. The historical sites are fascinating to visit and there is so much History in the Boston area. I would definitely recommend a visit for the family. Summer can be a bit humid, so make sure you have enough water when walking through the city.
Had a great time here, amazing history that every American should experience.
Look down or you might miss it! Walk around a bit, many of the buildings nearby have historical markers to give you a bit of a sense of the colonial neighborhood.
Thought it was neat being there, but had to come home to read more about it n listen on YouTube to a video about it. It's just a circular brick area near the old state house (beautiful old building) in the middle of all those skyscrapers. Samuel Adam's statue is also near by. It's like you have top hunt for everything except that beautiful old building. The circular spot is to the right of the old building, but Paul Revere's picture is from in front. Guess you shouldn't put such in the street for cars to run over.
An intriguing little square with an immense amount of important history attached!
Very iconic place to visit. Would highly recommend. Location of the Boston “Massacre”
Very very cool. Stumbled up on it accidentally. Seeing that old building surrounded by the skyscrapers is crazy.
Sad. You might miss what it says in front of the old state building...
Loved the boston massacre it was hilarious
Beautiful State House, and at the corner is the site of the Boston Massacre, nicely presented in a street cover. This location is also a great travelers location (due to the subway stop under the State House). Love that Boston has preserved their history so well with this being a stop for the historic walking "Freedom Trail" = great way to see the city's historic buildings and now modern architecture that has been built since the late 1700's. Feel very safe walking the trail and enjoying the sites on my own, but they also have tour guides, and foodie guides around this wonderful city of history!! Check it out, even if you only have a short time in town...it will be worth it!
First, I saw the place on the map. Was navigating to the blue line. When I went there I could not find the station:)) A woman helped me and told that the subway station is actually in this historical building. Now I came to an apartment and saw the picture of the historical site. I realized I walked through the sign on the land. But I diin't pay attention, I will see tomorrow again as a foreigner with fresh mind;)
The place marks the beginning of American Revolution. The trail walks you through most of the historic places in Boston and places which led to American Revolution. It's a must visit location and especially for people who are enthusiastic about history.
Best time to visit - summer/fall!
One of the coolest places to see on the Freedom Trail. We exited the near by subway on our first day in Boston and we're standing on the spot of the massacre and didn't realize it because we were trying to figure out where we were. Not important, but I thought it was funny.
Don't miss this important historic site (in front of the Old State House) during your visit to Boston. We we're fortunate to be there on the Fourth of July for the reading of the Declaration of Independence from the balcony above the marker
Went to hear the declaration of independence here on 4th of July pretty cool. Never knew they listed all the atrocities the king did in it. Lots of shopping and eating near by.
Was pretty cool to be in a place so full of History
Took a tour from Fanuel Hall while I was in town visiting my family. I am a Boston native but live elsewhere for work. Wanted my wife to get the local historical perspective of the massacre and surrounding historical events. Tour guide was amazing, very knowledgeable, and on top of it all gave the tour on a cold drizzly day. She was a real trooper. Great tour.
"Can't Wait To Bring The Kids For A Tour On The Freedom Trail Tors Trip!"
A true historical landmark and captivating scene
Probably you will pass by and will not noticed this mark on the floor. Unfortunately, I felt there is a lack of information about the event.
This is a must-visit if talking the Freedom Trail. It's also fairly easy to miss, if you don't look down and see the marker.
The Boston Massacre carries significant historical importance because of the events just prior to the American Revolution. The events here would shape the next several years and eventually involve founding fathers Paul Revere and John Adams.
It was do cool to start our freedom trail here and to be standing right in history. It was so cool to know what started right where you are standing.
The Boston Massacre site is marked by a stone and metal inlay in the sidewalk. It's amazing to think that this exact spot marked the first event in a sequence that created the United States of America! It's along the Freedom Trail, so don't forget to stop by if you're walking the trail.
Cool plaque, on the freedom trail. Worth seeing
You need to stop breath and really take in this site for what it means, I caught myself being a tourist and just glancing over this site as another place of interest. I was about to head out and caught myself, returned and just looked and wondered and thought about what really happened here. Do that. The only reason I didn't rate it a five was for the entrance fees, a site this important should be opened to all to take in and "feel" the importance of what happened here.
A neat piece of history to get to see .
Great historical site... with bunch of homeless sitting right next to it. It kinda ruins the tourist spot. However, from another perspective - it prevents crazy tourists from hoarding the area for photos.
I've walked to that place many times and I finally decided to go in. I think this is a must, it is quick and the right amount of information if you are around the clock.
I love America's story. Being able to be in the exact place that historical events that changed history for America happened is something I think all Americans should do. Boston has so much to see!
Obviously a historic location. Just not a whole lot to look at.
Check out the area along the trail
Beautiful spot to memorialize this important event!
A nice circle in the ground commemorates the event in front of the Old State House (which is open as a museum to tour).
Very cool. We attended the reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. Very patriotic.
It was crazy to see where the first shot was fired. Definitely my favorite stop on the freedom trail. If you love history, you'll enjoy it as well.
For such a terrible thing, greatness came from the end results. Boston Massachusetts is where American history began!! The monumental figures who molded the city..❤
Historical landmark right at the center of the street at the junction in the downtown area.
Not really much to see and being that its paved and walked on with many pedestrians it is hard to imagine what it might have been like. Not really sobering you want to make A point of going to see really.
Very nice. A must see while in Boston
Some have called it just a circle in the ground. And from a visual standpoint, this is true.
But while the blood that has been spilled is gone and the cries of the slain have been silenced, we must never forget what has happened on this spot.
Innocent lives were lost to start the monumental progression towards liberty and independence.
Downtown Boston is well worth the see. We toured the USS Constitution, Bunker Hill, and much more. My only complaint is the parking, limited and expensive!
Lol.. massacre indeed. 4+1. Hype and spin tales from history were interesting as told in a variety of ways by different sources. Just like always, history is written by the victors and they like to change their minds.
A lot of great history in the city I believe is the best in the world. People are generally very friendly and the history of the beginning of our country unfolds in Boston.
It’s so easy to miss. Being here makes it easier to imagine the past.
Visited here as part of the freedom walking trail. It was good to have a guide to explain the significance of everything. So much history!
It's a large marker in the sidewalk but it represents so much more. An important place historically worthy of a visit.
Very confusing, followed the map on Google and landed at the museum. The marking is set in a busy area of town and if we weren't specifically looking for it we would have missed it.
It's a well kept area and there are always tours going around in the area so you can stop by for a quick learning experience in colonial Boston
Educational and historic. Make a lot of time to visit Boston, because there is so much to see and learn about this beautiful city.
Great historical site. Thank you Boston for keeping it in great condition.
It's amazing we can actually step I to history right on this site. Stop for a money and close your eyes. You can just imagine the rowdy crowds as they were making there way to this site.
Big event in history; not much of a landmark to see.
This is well marked and if you wait around long enough, a tour guide is bound to come by and tell you all you need to know. Otherwise you can probably Google it.
My teenage daughter was so excited to see it!
Nicely marked and good explanation of what happened at this location. It is mostly a "quick take a look spot" as you walk on the Freedom Trail.
Considering what this site represents, it's odd to give it a 5-star rating. However, from a historical perspective, it's interesting. Great for history buffs.
Pretty cool sight from a historical standpoint, but not that much if you're just going about your day-to-day business
It's a good place to not be British
Important event in the American fight for Independence. Cool to stop and see where it all started.
This place is very cool. To think what happens here is amazing. The historic building is now a subway that I find curious.
Great history piece along the freedom trail in Boston. Did the audio tour via an app due to covid.
Wanted to see this part of American history. It was worth it. Parking is expensive and challenging in this area though. I also recommend going to Fanuiel hall.
Nice area to go visit with a tour guide. Learn alot about the historical facts about the Boston Massacre.
Easy to miss -- most people just walk right over it. It is good to know the history before hand to understand the event.
Great to see this historic location. So surreal that it's in the middle of a busy, modern city.
Great if you love history, a good photo opp if you're in the vivacity, just a plaque in the ground if you don't go for those sorts of things.
Massachusetts is hands down one of if not the most historic/significant state of the United States and the 13 colonies
Awesome site. Full of historical places, actions and personalities. Hot, cold drinks and food are available everywhere.
It is a great place, recently renovated for visitors. Great peace of history right on the middle of the business district.
Though it's contradictory giving a high rating for such a sad lamdmark, I lobed how it symbolizes remembrance and it's quite easy to find in the city following the Freedom trail.
Very cool landmark, Interesting to hear many different untold stories from the local museums.
A great tourist site to visit and to learn the history behind it. Coll to see how the United states was formed
The city of Boston is so interesting and learning the history of it all and the guide who told of the Boston Massacre and showed the site was really cool.
A site with great significance but you would not know it unless you know history.. Needs ... Something ... to bring out it's importance to our history.
Great historical site to visit in Boston. Must tour the Freedom Trail.
It was fun walking around there, and going in the building to learn more about history.
Great visit and wonderful ceremony on the 4th of July!
Lots of history. We did our own walking tour. A very good day.
243 reading of Declaration of Independence on July 4th. Highly recommend. Every citizen should experience this.
Colonial Boston's most historic site where the beginnings of the American Revolution was birthed.
Great history here, lovely place besides the obvious fact that its the site of a horrific historic event.
Very historic and building looks exactly the same as Paul Revere's newspaper template over 250 years ago
Stand out & well maintained building in the middle of high rise buildings all around.
Wow what a beautiful state I loved every minute of my visit the people and the beautiful sites I will be back
In front of the old state house very cool to stand next to the site where history was made !
A must see for all Americans and tourists! Helps us understand and appreciate everything we have.
Can we say history?
Well worth seeing this historical place.
#REDCapCon2022 Scavenger Hunt
Super cool
the city center was nice. Probably one of the must go places when you visit Boston.
A historical site where the Boston massacre happened.
You have to pay a fee to get it in. This is part of the red brick freedom trail.
An awesome place to walk by!
Spring forvavtour guide. These folks are passionate about what they do and the history of Boston.
Not much to see, just a circle on the ground. You should visit the Old State House for excellent talks.
Interesting place check it out if you like learning about history.
Excellent tour!
RevolutionTrail is easy to navigate and provides a great intro to historic Boston.
Very historic and thought provoking. Was very glad the bodies were no longer there
Just one of those must sees on the history stops.
We had a wonderful time here. Romance, food, great guy... what could be better
Great spot to see, surrounded by interesting and historic places
Beautiful historic building. With great informative staff!!
They died for U.S.A. Independent Country !
Very large brick marker imbeded in concrete.
Nice and quaint, though for something of such importance, a floor plaque did not bring it justice.
Part of the freedom trail. Go do the tour its well worth it.
A must see in Boston and a lot of history starts right here on the Freedom Trail
I didn't pay attention to this site at first. Just pay attention all the way from the freedom trail...
For the history nerds like myself!
Crazy historic do you got to come down heah!!!
Cool historical site! Conveniently along the Freedom Trail
Remarkable place. You look up and see the church towering in the heights of history
It's a really sad story behind it, but America wouldn't be possible without these sacrificing their lives, or British soldiers didn't panic opened fire.
Not really much to see but worth the visit just to think about what happened there and how it changed history.
It's looks pretty in the outside but I never been inside
An amazing site! Make sure to visit the Granary before you get to the massacre site to get a little background.
Loved this location and the whole city for that matter. Lots of history and nostalgia in this locale.
I could feel the massacre
It's fun getting to know so much stuff , i would advice y'all checking it out
This is the beat historical place in the US, mass is the birth of USA, and god bless those who gave it all for each one of us on this day🙏💯 …
What can I say, clean and wonderful. Took the Cheers trail! Good times.
I love learning about history
Marker on the site outside of the Old State House in Boston. Go into the Old State House to learn more details about it.
Very interesting and important spot for USA history
Cool place
You can always come to learn history with your own eyes and ears.
When I first got here, I totally missed the small plaque and signs. Look carefully!
Lots of history and this is a must do as part of the freedom trail.
Beautiful place to visit during the holiday season.
Didn't actually see the massacre, but it was interesting to see where it happened.
An absolute must see. Knowing this is the site of the Boston Massacre, and truly understanding what that meant are worlds apart.
Site of the Boston Massacre, dedicated to those killed or injured. Part of the Freedom Trail.
Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Boston 4th of July 2021
The site that spurred on the Revolution and birth of a Nation - this is sacred ground in America.
Reminds me of my British blood, so sad to see it like this.
We enjoyed our visit and learning about historic Boston
Great place to visit. Touching! Worth a visit.
Place was a little dirty but was a historic site worth the visit
Although historic, it's just a spot on the sidewalk.
Very informative...plenty of exhibits that are impressive.
Part of the Freedom trail, can’t miss it!
A great city walk. This is part of the downtown historic walk.
Absolutely incredible if you are a history buff
Take the Freedom Trail tour. Worth the price!
A local guide was very detailed recounting the events that led to the massacre.
View the site of 5 slain colonists
History along the Freedom Trail. What makes Boston special
Fake news all started here. Sensationalism? For a domino effect of all the wrongs Pryor
Sooo much history in our wonderful country!
Amazing piece of American History.
The shots that started it all.
Good. Tasty
Great Historic Site, among many in the City of Boston.
This shows you that our freedoms are not free. These men gave their lives to begin the fight for freedom.
