Reviews of Aldridge Gardens
Nicky O'Keefe
Lovely gardens, even on a cloudy day. Had a peaceful walk around the 5 acre lake and enjoyed exploring the flora, fauna, and art twined throughout the grounds’ other trails. One trail is a storybook walk for kids that features an area for gnomes and their homes. Butterflies, ducks, fish, and honeybees were spotted. Well-placed seating throughout the grounds. The building in the center of the gardens, Aldridge House, showcases artwork (most of which is for sale) from various artists throughout the year and displays historical documents of the gardens’ beginnings. There is a gift shop as well. Very kind staff members.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to this free public garden - a Hoover gem.

Peaceful, serene, and beautiful-what a place to unwind and relax. See and buy gorgeous flowers. Have a picnic lunch. Take a stroll around the lake. Watch the turtles. Get married! A lovely place for you friends and family to enjoy your wedding with you.
Jessica Sullivan
Beautiful garden with colorful, vibrant flowers. The floral scents in the air surround you as you walk along the paths. Nice place to relax your mind.
Sharon Gadbois
Beautiful even during the winter months. Of course, go when it's only sunshine and rainbows 🌞. Great place to get your walk on too. …
Rachel Jean
Beautiful small park with lots to see! The pond is gorgeous with the changing leaves. We arrived around 9 on a Saturday morning and there was hardly anyone there. Perfect morning walk with sunbathing turtles and a Herron. I would go back here in a heartbeat!
Angelia Bowdre
So can somebody please tell me why I've been in Birmingham area for almost 25 years and have passed the Aldrich Gardens sign on Lorna Road a gazillion times and didn't even notice it.😔😔😔 This spot is amazing. Wonderful walking trails, beautiful view of the lake and just adorable geese or ducks! They also have a venue you can rent for events. I will definitely be going back to take a run in the park. If one day you have some time and you are rolling on Lorna Road, whip right on in and take a look! You might just be pleasantly surprised! 🧚♂️🧚♂️
Take a look at my photos!! Enjoy!!!🙂
Steven Pickle
Absolutely beautiful place, even in the late fall after the flowers had died off and most of the maple leaves had fallen. Can't wait to go back and see it in full bloom!
Melissa
Beautiful gardens with nice walking paths and lovely plants. The lake and fountain are stunning. It’s one of Hoover’s hidden gems!
Aleena G.
Such a beautiful place to explore, walk, hike, or even host events like baby shower, bridal showers, etc. very peaceful, serene, and allows you to be one with nature. Lots of bugs and mosquitoes here though, so insect repellent would be good to have!
Mel P
Beautiful atmosphere! The park is well kept and there are various trails to explore. It's great for a peaceful outing by one's self or for a day out with the family.
Patrick Evans
Was a nice place to visit, somewhat a cold day but still a good walk
Reagan Vickers
Beautiful place to go on a beautiful day like today! We walked around and we fed the HUGE fish and turtles. We had a blast!! Can't wait to go back!
Yaser A
Always made my day to be here, I love being around this place and the trail here always meets my expectations. The vary of natural life makes me feel Peace of mind and improving my positivity.
Ping Vuong
A wonderful walk in this free entrance garden
Melody Owen
It's a beautiful place to walk and take kids. My son enjoyed seeing the goslings and turtles. This garden is very well maintained.
Nhu Le
Aldridge Gardens is a beautiful and peaceful botanical garden hidden in plain sight in the city of Hoover. Nestled between a commercial area and a residential neighborhood, Aldridge Gardens provides a serene location for quiet walks through well maintained trails.
Angel Thuresson
Beautiful place to go and walk or to just sit and find peace and quiet. Minus one star because it’s not really a traditional botanical garden. There are some flowers but not really a whole lot, and only one bathroom towards the main entrance. They do have some cool sculptures though, and considering it’s free a person really can’t complain.
Side note: They do not spray for bugs. You will be eaten alive so bring bug spray.
Shivakumar
Beautiful place to visit one day picnic. Beautiful sculptures made on trees really amazing
Kendyl Terry
Very nice place. Whoever keeps this place up does an excellent job. We saw several turtles and dragon flys while we were there. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Nice walking trails with several benches and rest areas along the way.
Sherell Herron
Beautiful.Has easy access for the disabled.
Allie
Beautiful place, super well kept up, and the caretakers are super kind. Went into the gift shop and picked up fish food and had a ridiculous amount of fun feeding the fish and turtles. As a note, NEVER FEED FISH OR BIRDS BREAD. It is so bad for them, and I saw several people doing just that. For 25¢ a bag, you can get the bags of food and feed them in a way that's healthy for them, and helps the gardens. Excellent place to enjoy a picnic and birdwatch. Saw a beautiful woodpecker!
Herman Mattingly
I go here to run. I enjoy the scenery while I'm sweating my butt off.

Being a native of Bluff Park Hoover, it is no suprise how Awesome this sanctuary of a woodland retreat is! Aldridge Gardens has the best of all this portion of Alabama has to offer...woodland gardens with awesome walking trails nestled within a lake setting. Not to mention an incredible display of the 'snowflake' hydrangea found and patented by the Aldridge family. It is one of those places you tend to say..."I can't believe all this is here"!
Rainy Barron
It’s quiet and peaceful. It’s certainly pretty but if you are looking for something like the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, you’ll be disappointed.
Gale Carter
We love this park here in Hoover ,plenty of flowers and it just peaceful
Larrylaw Law
It's a nice place to go for a nature walk in the woods
Pandalovebutton
A beautiful place to get some nice shots. Check out the Bonsai trees near the gift shop.
Amanda D'Agostino Budyach
This park is absolutely gorgeous! Highly suggested! Plus it’s free!
Jasmine S
Very quiet, peaceful and relaxing park. Many walking trails to enjoy.
Pam Wharton
Nice place to relax, walk the paths and enjoy nature a little
Francis Herring
It's a beautiful place to take the family to enjoy nature and each other.
Samuel Evard
A beautiful, serene landscape with interesting artwork to admire.
Cecily Caudle
Lovely in the fall with the changing leaves! The ginko tree looked amazing.
dierdriu
This place has been dear to my family for the past 10 years. It's tranquil, serene, and beautifully kept. It retains something of a wild, natural air, as the grounds are not manicured like a golf course but cared for after being appropriately planted. In the midst of the noise of the city, one enters and, like the grand cathedrals of old, the din of city life is hushed. Bird song, shade, and beautiful surroundings make this a lovely sanctuary. Very grateful for this space and for all that Mr. Aldridge did for horticulture and for our community.
Bill Tiemann
Very nice botanical gardens. Beautifully done with excellent walking paths, a beautiful lake and fountain. Nice peaceful atmosphere. There are a few picnic tables where you can take your lunch and relax. And, it's free.

Everything is just now starting to green up. In a few weeks the greenery will be lush.
Nicole
We love Aldridge Gardens! We love the flowers, sculptures and all the special events.
Debbie Gerrity
My daughter's wedding was this passed weekend. The Gardens are absolutely magical. She held her ceremony lakeside which gave a most picturesque backdrop. Having the cocktail hour in the museum allowed guests to appreciate another view of the lake and enjoy the art. The reception under the pavilion was dazzling. And Amanda, the best! Professional, helpful and super friendly! Five star for sure!
Ju Mc
Convenient location in the middle of a busy Hoover area but the serenity of a rural setting. Plenty of places to sit for eating/reading and people who are just as quiet and friendly as the setting.
Jeremy Haughaboo
Just love the gardens my granddaughter loves feeding the Ducks Turtles. Gardens are beautiful any season absolutely there's something blooming all the time you come late fall or winter and the Camellias are breath-taking
Omar Almakky
Very nice nature, very clean and well serviced, you also have a chance to feed fish and turtles
Lindsey Herron
Absolutely gorgeous place to go, plus it's free! Paths are wide and easy to navigate, and the statues scattered around are interesting. The plant variety means there's something to see every season, so go often. Also a great place to have an event like a wedding or big party.
Virginia Branson
Aldridge Gardens hosted the American Legion Post 911's annual Christmas party in 2020. While the attendees wore masks and socially distanced, the party was the most beautiful we have ever had!
We were able to have a small live music combo, which delighted our guests.
But the care with which the venue was decorated was superb. Warm, inviting, festive - Christmas-y!
The staff was caring, attentive, yet not overbearing, kind, and gracious. There aren't enough stars in the Milky Way to give this venue!
Susan M
Beautiful, peaceful, area. It's a nice stroll or a great spot to have a picnic thanks to the many benches. The first time I went, they had 5 weddings and a reception going on at once. It was all so organized and spaced out that no one was in others way and everyone got to have their amazing day.
Tammy James
Beautiful gardens. Took my father in his wheelchair. Very nice visit.
alex Plunkett
Beautiful place to explore and even meditate
Lee J
Aldridge Gardens has always been a peaceful haven tucked within the hustle and bustle of Hoover. A great place for photographs, formal events, or a nice walk. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is the customer service at the gate has declined over the years. They barely ever greet you anymore. They’d rather glare at you, even when you’re making donations at the exit.
Brice Jackson
Cool place for a stole or to sit and read. My wife & I like to go for a light walk here from time to time. Aldridge also has good community events!
Each year they host The Taste of Hoover in the fall! If you live in Hoover, this is a must! Local food vendors & drink for a fair price. I’m a foodie, but also a health Dude, and this event has stuff for all! I’ll even cave in a on a sweet or two with my kiddo.
This pic is from 5 years ago. Still beautiful as it was then.

We visited Aldridge Gardens this past week. It is Spring so the flowers and trees were showing off. As you enter the gardens you are filled with a sense of peace and tranquility. There is a nice lake with a covered area where you can sit and enjoy the view or feed the large fish and turtles.Various trails wander through the gardens. There is a bridge leading to a Veteran’s memorial.Throughout the garden are whimsical statues and seating areas created by a local artist. They have a gift shop on the property. My grandkids love coming here and we have had some lovely family pictures made at the gardens. It is a real treat right in Birmingham.
Salome Torres
This is a beautiful place, it has lots of stillness and there is beauty everywhere you look. It’s peaceful and quiet and there is an art gallery showing the work of a different artist each month. I love feeding the geese and the ducks, also the turtles and the fish. They sell food to feed the animals for 25 cents and I also like to give them organic oatmeal. It’s free to get in, of course they accept donations and I have taken very good photos in there. There is a little trail to walk around the lake and a few sculptures. Definitely a place to bring your family to and remember to bring some food for yourself because they don’t sell food or snacks in there.
Erik Brown
Great park even for weddings!
Nicole Kraut
The Aldridge Gardens is a great little spot to visit.
I came in for a business trip and had an afternoon to myself.
I was looking for something affordable and enjoyable to do and I stumbled upon the gardens.
I spent an hour or so (I got there at five and they close at six) enjoying walking the trails.
There are plenty of wildlife to spot and hydrangeas to marvel at.
If you like walking/hiking in woodsy areas, this is a great spot to visit!
Nikki Guthrie
We spent about 1 1/2 hours there this morning and it's a lovely & tranquil place. The land (30 acres) and a (small) house were donated by Mr. & Mrs. Aldridge and it's now a non-profit. There's a dedicated group of volunteers, including those who staff the gift shop. We had a very pleasant conversation with the couple who worked in the shop today (although the shop is tiny and we didn't see anything of interest). There were several women (singly) walking around the grounds who probably go walking there regularly - all of whom greeted us as they passed us - and later we saw a large group of adorable kindergartners who were very excited to be there.
Danelle Long
Love this place. It is very relaxing
S Taylor
My wife and I moved out to Hoover about 6 months ago, and we stumbled upon this place. It's so beautiful here! I think our kids might even like here more than we do! We always bring them with us.
Laura Norris
Such a pretty space to walk and explore! The story walk was fun for my 4 year old too.
Jannes S (Jannesy)
We love going there do many pretty flowers looking at pond with fish beautifully it is ..
Bailey Hoffman
I throughly enjoyed my visit here, but I think charging $50 a year for “privilege” of bringing a dog for 12 hours a week (even fewer hours allowed in the winter!) is ridiculous. Restricting people from bringing their dogs to a park that has a great deal of woodsy paths is unnecessary.
Stephanie Frakes
Beautiful! Love to put in my headphones and get in gear! Sometimes a little crowded with geese, ducks, and families... Bring bread and you'll make some new feathery friends
Christopher Shadrick
Was here for a function and it was very well managed and conducted and carried out, the premises or well kept up at all times, oh just a five-star place, I also use the place to walk
Teacher Amy LV
Beautiful spot for a picnic or to stroll around the lake. The plant sale is excellent and there are many knowledgeable gardeners there to help you with your selections.
Kris Williams
Beautiful scenery that's a short drive from downtown Birmingham. Easy stroll with nice gardens and the opportunity to see turtles, fish, ducks, and various birds. Nice for all ages. Consider bringing a picnic.
Doug Hall
This place is beautiful. It's a hidden gem you should visit!
Lishi K
I love Aldridge Gardens. I appreciate the city of Hoover allowing us to enjoy this almost heavenly place.
Unbelievably on Saturday I saw a group of Hispanic women and children writing or carving into the trunks of trees! The children were all excited asking ,"When's my turn?" Repeatedly. I can't believe how ignorant some people are.
Rebecca W
Wonderful well maintained garden with nice sculpture collection. Pleasant walk around lake has a walk in the woods vibe. Lots of different hydrangeas, camellias, ferns, irises and lilies.
Ralph Hooper
What a beautiful spot. Had the great pleasure of attending a wedding here recently -- perfect. Flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers, lake, geese, songbirds, landscaping,, trees, walking trails, great facilities and a spot on wedding venue. It was beautiful.

Jack Knight
Fantastic park. Hidden in plain sight. (A fee is charged for bringing in a camera; however, no charges for taking pictures with a cell phone. It affords so many interesting photo opportunities that the fee is well worth it.)
A G
I enjoy the walk around the lake here. A beautiful park hidden in the middle of town.

Behind the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Hoover, Al is this little hidden gem of a secret garden. A former resident of Birmingham, I had never heard of Aldridge. To my delight, I visited after an aunt urged me to "give it a chance" for my wedding venue. I was completely against an outdoor wedding-with the unpredictable weather of the south, my allergies, and BUGS-none of these made Aldridge appealing to me. We planned a visit in the dead of winter and it was then that I fell in love...I was in awe of the trees, even minus leaves they gave off this sort of rustic charm that I was trying to capture for our wedding day. The path from the entrance leads you to the splendor of this beautiful lake. I stood there for a moment and took in this breathtaking view. I felt like I didn't deserve to host a wedding at such a nice location. The moment that I sat down with the Events Director, Amanda Baker, I knew no matter what we HAD to be here. Amanda has such a warm and engaging spirit, my fiancé and I felt an instant connection with her and knew that she would do everything in her power to make our day a success. We had our wedding lakeside and our reception under the pavilion. The weather the day of our ceremony was TERRIBLE! I never once worried that the beauty of our day would suffer because moving the ceremony inside the home on the property never felt like a bad thing, it was just as beautiful. Luckily, the clouds split and we were able to have a lovely, breezy June wedding surrounded by our closest friends and family and beautiful hydrangeas. We visited a few other venues in the area. No one else could offer Amanda.I feel like this is an Amanda review not an Aldridge one but a place is only as nice as the people that work for it. I could go on and on about this venue and about the staff who gave me the best possible version of one of the best days of my life. We have made a forever friend and found a forever place to bring our family in the future. Aldridge is the perfect backdrop, it can literally be whatever you want it to be. THE PERFECT WEDDING VENUE!
