Reviews of Adkins Arboretum
Worth a stop along your way but not worth going out or the way for.
Free in 2021
Duration: 1-2hrs
Small arboretum with several miles of looping trails. Well developed trails with bridges and small art work along the side. Easy to navigate and a good number of plant identification signs.
Recommend wearing light weight boots or tall socks as the trails are all gravel and you will kick up a lot of rocks.
The Arboretum is really nice. They have a few walking trails that are easy to explore alone or with a group. The shop at the entrance has a good collection of books and souvenirs.
We are local to the area and this is our go-to for outdoor hiking and other fun outside activities.
Really nice place to visit. They have lots of short trails and several that connect to longer trails into the state park. We enjoyed the goats and the tree guide.
Even on a hot summer day it's good to get into the woods for a cooling breeze.
The central focus of the Adkins Arboretum in nearby Ridgely, Maryland, is to conserve a variety of diverse habitats and educate the public about them. While exploring the 400-acre grounds, visitors see more than 600 plant species in various settings, including woodlands, wetlands, and meadows.
Guided walks are available, and a gift shop is on-site. Hikers and nature lovers can also enjoy five miles of trails that pass through various habitats, such as hardwood forests and pine forests. Wildlife, including deer and fox, can be spotted.
Always love this place! Even with a lot of overgrown stuff, because of this crazy weather, it is still a beautiful place to go. My family and I just did your pictures there!
Great arboretum adjacent to Tuckahoe State Park. Visitor center, hiking trails, beautiful native trees, shrubs and
flowering plants, ponds and a creeks. They have events and plant sales. Reasonable admission fee $5 (as of October 2018)
Absolutely love the Arboretum! We visit at least once a week with our 3 small children.
Plenty of trails to get lost on and artsy stuff to stumble upon. Even found a geocache container! Nice work on the signage too! Rode around on our bikes and sometimes stopping was a buggy mess, so keep that in mind if you're just walking. Even though it's a natural habitat, some minor trail maintenance would be an improvement.
This place is so incredibly beautiful! It is great for people of all ages. Admittance is free for all of 2021.
Adkins Arboretum is an excellent place for education and relaxation. Their staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. We learned so much on our tour.
A favorite, we try to go every year. Great hikes and beautiful grounds. And goats!
We went on a warm day in February and had a great time. The trails are easy to walk, level and well maintained. Lots of plant and tree information along the trails and even some goats on site to visit. We were pleased to find out that dogs are welcome and they give military discounts. We’ll definitely be coming back.
This is a beautiful place with multiple walking trails. Walking paths were dry and easy to traverse although there were areas of elevation. Seating areas were placed along the walking path at about 3/4 to 1 mile increments.
Awesome trails and wildlife. Great for beginners or more experienced. Many different trail options. They even had a few goats!
A beautiful place to go to get outside and be with nature. The staff is really helpful and knowledgeable. The trails are well marked so you cannot get lost! 🙂 …
This is a gem in Caroline County. Had the pleasure of helping them out with their network. Staff is polite and professional. Will be back for events and future services.
One of the best places I have brought my kids in MD for a walk. Lots of nature activities for them to explore. A nice mix of trails for a perfect 2 mi hike.
Beautiful! I was only here for a short rest during a bike ride. But the tones of a bull frog and pastoral grounds provided a much needed respite from a very hot and long bike ride!
Adkins is a must stop on Eastern Shore - beautiful trails and great visitor center with friendly staff. Love seeing all the native plants and trees.
It was very peaceful and almost like being in a fairytale when walking through the various paths, especially the grass covered ones where you could take your shoes off and feel the softness of it beneath your feet and really connect with the earth.
Great trails and lots to see
I spent a quiet time around the ponds with my son's ashes and a picture of my recently deceased mother. The Arboretum as well as Pickering have become a refuge from the growing global woes.
Great Arboretum. I learned a lot and saw some trees and plants that were new to me
This place is amazing what a beautiful meadow that has an outlook you can see everything from so many different native species that are labeled wonderful map at the entrance lots of things you can do with your kids. Lots of warblers if you like bird watching. Definitely a new favorite place to come and relax in nature
Love this place. Went one time for a hike with a family, another time for a bike ride.
Note, the posted hours are for the store, the actual grounds are open from dawn to dusk
5 dollar admission. A lovely walking park of exceptional peacefulness. Nice staff offer guided walks to discuss the flora and fauna. I took the hour long trail and did not get around to all that is there. Dog friendly and benches at intervals. Picnic area and gift shop.
Nearby park has fishing and other amenities.
Delightful little place with lots of peaceful and easy trails. Think they probably have a fly and mosquito problem in summer. Highly recommend. Dog on leash friendly.
We went to explore Adkins Arboretum last Saturday afternoon. The visitor center is temporarily closed and the admission is free. They have maps available at their main entrance. We walked most of the trails, and each one of them brought pleasant surprises. We found goats, birds, butterflies and frogs. We admired the beauty of their native flowers and trees. Some trails are wide and well maintained; while others are very narrow and with plenty of obstacles. You'll need plenty of bug repellent for the ticks.
Be prepared to bring lots of bug spray on the trails
This is a great place to visit. Nice gift shop with really good coffee and very nice knowledgeable people working there. The trails are wide to walk around with lots of information stands and lots of different stuff to see. It connects to other trails as well.
Great hidden place with native plants on the eastern shore. Enjoyed walking around on the grounds with wide paths and checking out all the fall colors. Several events were going on that day. The visit happen to be the same time as a 35% off sale on native plants in late October. Great buys. In the bookstore there were $1 and $2 books for sale, great buy.
Definitely will be going back.
Great place to spend the day combining with nature. Frogs. Beavers. Turtles. Trees. Birds. Jack-in-the pulpit. Grab a docent and learn a lot.
A beautifully designed arboretum with innovative storm water management as well as surprise sculptures and architectural structures. A vast array of native plant communities with labels and numerous walking trails. People exploring here are happy.
Field trip with 2nd grade students. Great volunteer guides providing hands on scientific activities. We all learned a lot.
Beautiful place, no matter the season.
Great place for the entire family. Activities and play areas for young ones as well as hiking for older kids and adults!
My favorite place in the state. So much to see, so many friendly people. Oh and they have goats! :)
Good place to check out local flora, especially trees, and to buy native plants. Trails are very accessible and well marked. Lovely visitor center with helpful staff and handouts. Lots of parking. Nice place for an hour's meandering on the Eastern Shore if you are already there. Note: Hard to find as there was no signpost after leaving the main highway, so watch your GPS map carefully to veer off to the left almost immediately. We had to ask at the gas station in Ridgely.
Festival in the Woodlands was a great experience
We made memories and took lots of pictures
Wonderful trails, amazing gift shop full of thoughtful items, and very knowledgeable staff.
So many trails to either hike or bike on. This place is wonderful. They also have a kids garden, goats, and plants you can purchase. Our family loves to visit.
I came out to support a friend in the 5k that supports the goat farm. As this was my first visit I was pleased to explore a bit here and ended up doing the fun run around the meadow with my dog. Pet friendly.
Trails galore, a Kids garden and a great Nature Center here. They also sell plants and trees seasonally. A great amount of wooded and meadow trails.
Want a walk in a park, beautiful and spacious. Great place to take a jog or relaxing walk!
Beutifull, top notch educational center. Soooooo under appreciated in our area. Rite next to Tuckahoe state park with PLENTY of manicured trails. If you haven't been you should.
We took one of the pathways and we walked for around 40 minutes. The views of the woods are splendid. We are looking forward to visiting it again and see the other areas.
Gorgeous site, friendly and helpful staff.
This was a marvelous place to visit, especially for these squirrelly times. Peaceful, beautiful, and informative. Be prepared for heavy mosquitoes in the woods though.
This is very family friendly place. Nice place to walk and kids to play. Love the little house and goats. The shop is so cute as well.
Beautiful, well worn trails. Great for hiking and riding.

Lots of trails to pick from. Staff at the center is very friendly. Good selection of nature books available and interesting programs.
Wonderful place to visit and walk all of the trails
Saw lots of wild mushrooms of various kinds. Be ready for mosquitoes. A 400 acre park with wide trails and common Maryland plants and trees.
Great staff, super walking trails. Keep an eye out for the beavers as you cross the walk bridge to the office and entrance.
The goats were so fluffy!!!
