I am so happy with my Lasik surgery. Dr Mandel and his staff were exceptional. Dr Mandel was so patient and thorough during the consult. He really spent time explaining the procedure, helping us to understand which procedure he thought was best for me and answered all of our questions which really helped to calm my nerves. Missy was wonderful during the consult and as my main contact person through out. Kim was so knowledgeable and really prepared me with a step by step the day of the surgery. I really appreciated that. Dr Mandel not only is very skilled and seasoned, he was so lovely, knowledgeable and supportive the whole time. I highly recommend him and his practice.

Dr. Mandel and his staff were incredible from the first consultation all the way through post procedure follow ups. I consulted with three other doctors prior to choosing Mandel vision and the reason I chose them was because they conducted the most thorough evaluation, Dr. Mandel spent a good amount of time with me (some other doctors won’t meet with you until the day of the procedure) and they set realistic expectations, never over-promising anything. I’m so thankful for their treatment and care and couldn’t be happier with the results. My vision is better than it was with contacts/glasses, two things I no longer need.

Dr. Mandel is truly the best Eye surgeon. I did PRK and I am elated with the process and the results. I got an immediate consult, with a comprehensive/thorough evaluation, and was able to schedule the surgery quickly. He answered my long list of questions and made sure I was completely informed going into the procedure. The procedure was quick and the recovery time was short. He even gives you a courtesy call when you get home from your surgery to make sure you are ok. His team is also amazing throughout the whole process. I had my Lasik performed by Dr Mandel back in May of 2014, and had a great experience. I was also seeing Dr Mandel for all my regular clinic and Opthalmology annual visits, but unfortunately he stopped this part of his practice during covid. I did feel a bit rushed by one of his head nurses (can't remember her name) during the initial consultation, but everything else went very smoothly and Dr Mandel always took his time to explain everything, even during the regular check up visits, so I would recommend.

I know I paid them for this so it's not, in fact, a miracle, but I can now see clearly without glasses/contacts for the first time in 15+ years. I went to Mandel Vision because I had multiple coworkers recommend them, and I'd like to add my recommendation to the list. Dr. Mandel explained the reasoning behind his suggestions (I got PRK instead of lasik at his recommendation), answered all my questions, and performed the surgery. My results have been fantastic. Couldn't really do much for the first week after, and the second week my eyes were still quite dry + bright lights hurt, but by the third week I was able to resume life pretty much as normal. One of my primary hobbies is sewing and I was completely able to thread a needle no problem by week 3. (For reference, I started at -3.75/-4.50 with an astigmatism.) In short: If you're on the fence about getting laser eye surgery that's your prerogative, but if you decide to go for it then I'd highly recommend Dr. Mandel!!

I am so happy I finally went ahead and got Lasic. If you're on the fence, all I can say is even just one week on, it's the best money I ever spent, and the best thing I ever did for myself. Dr Mandel and his team are a huge part of that. They're an experienced team of veterans whose expertise is obvious. I took a lot of comfort from their professionalism. Dr Mandel in particular took the time to explain the results of my preliminary exam, and to explain exactly how the procedure would go. It was also very clear that Dr. Mandel would not clear me for Lasic unless he was absolutely confidant that I would get a positive outcome. In fact, the day I went in for my consultation, I saw him turn down two other prospective patients who were not ideal candidates. As unfortunate as that was for them, it showed that Dr. Mandel was willing to turn away business if it was in the best interest of the patient. As a result, when Mandel approved me for the procedure, I was very confidant that he had made a carefully considered judgement. I felt taken care of, not sold to. In the end, my outcome is absolutely fantastic. I was 98% healed within a day, discomfort was minimal, and my vision came out 20/15, better than promised, and better than the human average. I wish I could give a sixth star. Thank you Dr. Mandel and company!

Dr.Mandel is an extraordinary physician who is experienced in laser vision correction surgery. I was referred by a good friend who also had her procedures done by Dr. Mandel . I had a really high prescription -12 since I was little . Bad vision brought me not only inconvenience but also low confidence . I am scared of wearing contact lenses and i really did not like wearing glasses either . After reviewing Dr. Mandel ‘s website I decided to come for a consultation ( free of charge ). Staffs here and Dr. Mandel are extremely helpful and honest. They had me do very detailed exam and according to my case made a suitable plan . I had my painless 5 minutes procedure done and immediately can be functional . Some recovery time about 3-4 days of eye sensitivity and tearing . My vision recovers quickly within 2-6 weeks after procedure and I can function and do my normal daily work . ( I am a nurse ) . Thanks for Dr. Mandel and all his staff member . Prefabs post procedure instructions are very clear and helpful . If you ever consider vision correct surgery and get rid of contact lenses or glasses . Come to Dr. Mandel !

Only one day post-op and I’m already happy with my Mandel Vision experience thus far. Each time I have come into the office the receptionists have been welcoming and true to COVID guidelines. The staff took their time to make sure I felt relaxed and informed about what the surgery would entail. Missy told me detailed instructions I would have to use post-op to ensure my eye health was maintained and she was available for contact the days leading up to my PRK surgery. Once I was in the surgery chair, the procedure was explained to me in depth by Kim and I really appreciated that, it made me way more relaxed. When Dr. Mandel came in he was very calm, explanatory, and confident in what he was doing. The procedure went really quickly and I too felt relaxed and blown away by his efficiency. After the surgery I immediately could see things I would have never been able to see without assistance from my glasses. I just had my Day one post-op appointment with Dr. Mandel. After a short test with another sweet staff member (I sadly missed her name) I was told that both of my eyes had improved significantly and one was even 20/20 already. The whole Mandel vision team made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole process and even the next day. Dr. Mandel even called me the night after my surgery to see how I was doing. Although it is only day one I am hopeful that the positive experience I’ve had so far will just increase as my healing continues.

I have needed visual correction (for nearsightedness) basically my entire life, starting with glasses at age 11 and switching to contacts at age 13. I have considered the option of laser surgery for the last 25 years, and on the glowing recommendation of a good friend I arranged for a consultation with Dr. Mandel. I was immediately put at ease by Dr. Mandel and everyone I had interaction with at the office, including his associate Missy Grohne. They took me through every step of what the process would be, making sure I understood, answering all questions, and making the recommendation for PRK surgery (over LASIK) as a result of their analysis. I was able to schedule my surgery flexibly, and the big day came and went like that! The recovery was just as predicted: one day of extreme discomfort (2 days after), but waking up 4 days after with VISION! I am now a few weeks out from my procedure, and am seeing better every day. I can't recommend Mandel Vision enough. In fact, even this soon after the procedure I can safely say that, if you are a good candidate (and they will give you the straight scoop on this), and if your insurance covers a big chunk of it (as mine did), I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WOULDN'T DO THIS. It's a scary prospect to have eye surgery, but the way I am experiencing and , yes, seeing the world is radically better. Thanks to Dr. Mandel and his entire staff!!

I'm expecting the vision to dip down a bit and gradually improve once again (Dr. Mandel has informed me as such), and I've been following all of his instructions to the letter. If you want a doctor and staff that truly care about you, this is the place to go.

Best doctor ever! I can't express my gratitude to doctor Mandel, I have worn glasses since I was 5 years old. For me making the decision to do Lasik was a big deal, I researched for a long time and Dr. Mandel kept coming up as #1 doctor so I decided to give it a try. I was so afraid because I know people who have done Lasik and now they can't see without glasses they went to one of these really popular doctors the ones that always come on the hispanic commercial I hope you all know which one I am taking about. Anyway I wanted a good doctor, the best to be clear, someone I can trust my eyes. And I did find that with Dr. Mandel, he is not like other doctors that you don't see them until the day of the surgery and when you see them is for 10 minutes and never see them again. No not Dr. Mandel, he is the one examining your eyes the day of the consultation, he does all the necessary exams to make sure you're a good candidate and if you are he will go over your chart with you and explain everything in detail to you. I really loved that care so I decided to go forward with my surgery and I have to say I can't be happier with my decision. The day of the surgery I was super nervous but Dr. Mandel was so caring and attentive that he made me feel so much better. He went to the room where I was waiting and getting ready for my surgery a couple times making sure I was doing well, he did my surgery and during the surgery he was guiding me through, after the surgery he did one final test to make sure that everything went well. That night the doctor called to see how I was doing. Also, he met me the day after to check my eyes and make sure the surgery was a success. Again the level of care is spectacular I will recommend Dr. Mandel to everyone, actually I already did. I told family and friends how happy I am and the fact that I can see everything, colors, faces and everything else.

I’d been strung along for weeks previously but Dr. Mandel’s office scheduled me in that same week, conducted testing, the team was always clear on when and what was happening and proactive in reaching out. After thorough testing was conducted I was recommended PRK instead of LASIK and proceeded to receive the surgery. My sister got lasik at Mandel vision 3 years ago and can’t stop talking about how life changing the experience it was. I did my procedure this week, and Dr. Mandel, Missy and the entire team are so fantastic. In addition to being brilliant and amazing at what they do, they are also extraordinarily kind, patient, and understanding. They are also really fun and manage to bring humor and joy even to what might feel like a tense situation for some. For a few weeks before the procedure, I had questions about it and Missy patiently answered all of my questions. During the procedure, Dr. Mandel made jokes to make sure I was calm during the process, and Kim explained every step of the process in detail to make sure I was comfortable. The night of the procedure he called to check in. I went in yesterday for my follow up the day after the procedure and the entire team gave me a handwritten card. I have never had a medical experience before that involved this much care, attention to detail, and compassion throughout the process. If you want to do lasik or prk, I could not recommend them more highly.

Dr. Mandel and his staff are wonderful. Everyone is so friendly and informed. They told me all about the procedures available to me and helped me choose Lasik for single vision based on my needs and concerns. They gave me all the information about the process, detailed instructions, and material to read to make sure I understood what I was doing. They even told me about a discount program through my insurance that I didn't realize I had, which got me 15% off my surgery. Everything went beautifully. It's a scary procedure to have your eyes operated on, but Dr. Mandel kept me calm, and called me a couple hours after I'd gone home to see how I was feeling (I was asleep!). When I came in the next day they gave me a thank you card for trusting them with my eyes. A few days after my one week check-up they contacted me to choose a charity for Dr. Mandel to make a charitable contribution to in my name. Dr. Mandel and his office are the undisputed champions of laser eye surgery in the tri-state area. I visited two doctors before meeting with Dr. Mandel - my longtime family eye center and then a pure LASIK shop. The first office misdiagnosed me with a rare eye condition and the second office felt like they were rushing me to surgery to get their $5k. Dr. Mandel's office has THE MOST advanced imaging and surgical machines in the country! Dr. Mandel was the third LASIK surgeon I had a consultation with. He was professional, nice, and helpful. I did plenty of research on all the offices and doctors I visited, and Dr. Mandel clearly had the best credentials from what I could find. After he cleared me for getting LASIK, I committed to getting the surgery at Mandel Vision. Day of surgery, I was admittedly pretty nervous, but the staff does their best to keep you calm. They get some measurements from a couple of machines, and then prep you for surgery with some drops. For me, being under the machines was pretty scary, but mostly in that I was waiting for something scary to happen, but it went so smoothly and much faster than I thought it would, and it was pretty painless. Maybe 30-40 minutes later, I felt some discomfort in my eyes, but after I got home and took a nap, all that was gone by the time I woke up. I got surgery yesterday, and my eyesight already close to perfect today! I'm glad I went through with this and would recommend Dr. Mandel to my friends and anyone else. I also want to mention that the staff was equally as nice and helpful! I called multiple times the days before surgery, and they got through my questions pretty fast! I've read reviews for other offices where the doctor might be great, but the staff isn't, but this is definitely not that type of place.

In 2001, after visiting two other doctors that stated I wasn't a good candidate for corrective eye surgery, I met with Dr. Mandel for a consultation. Dr. Mandel assured me that I was a good candidate, and saw no issue with my "thin corneas". He performed LASIK surgery on me and the results were nothing short of amazing. Since I started wearing glasses when I was 6 years old, I couldn't believe that I could see without them. One of the best decisions I ever made. Now in 2019, as I got older obviously, my vision started to slip a bit. I didn't want to go back to glasses again. Without hesitation I went back to Dr. Mandel. He recommended PRK surgery this time. Albeit a little longer recovery than LASIK, the results are still phenomenal. Dr. Mandel and his staff explained everything about the differences in surgeries. My vision is better than 20/20. If you are considering corrective eye surgery, you should not look anywhere else. Dr. Mandel was one of the pioneers for corrective eye surgery and he and his staff are extremely professional, attentive and easy to deal with. I would highly recommend!

I had my Lasik surgery with Dr. Mandel one week ago, and so far the experience has been excellent. Starting from the initial consultation scheduling his staff has been very helpful, including responding to calls and walking through all my questions in detail (also they do not push the surgery onto every patient, since they seem to be more selective on which patients are good candidates for the procedure). Also while the Lasik surgery itself is short (<10min), they run a fairly extensive suite of tests both during the consultations and ahead of the surgery. He also prescribed me various eye drops to help with dry eyes, which have actually made my eyes feel ever better than before since I wasn't aware that my dry eyes were abnormal (my ophthalmologist never even brought this up... I guess that's what you pay a premium for - more experience!). Finally, Dr. Mandel does the surgery himself and talks through each step (nothing too scary to me, and no real pain as most others have mentioned), so I felt comfortable knowing that he was there for the entire process. My recovery was rather easy, no unexpected discomfort or issues, so I did not require much post-op care, but it's worthwhile to note that I did not have to wait very long for Dr. Mandel at each of my follow-ups.

Both my husband and I had PRK done by Dr. Mandel and couldn’t be happier. I had 20/25 vision within the first week. My husband is a surgeon himself, so he was hesitant about any of the vision correction procedures as his eyesight and career is at stake. I was skeptical, before going to Mandel Vision, because I heard so many “gone wrong” stories. Dr. Mandel’s experience, expertise, level of care, patience, technology used by the practice (we did some research ourselves before going) and his team made us feel safe to proceed with PRK. Also, I truly appreciated his bedside manners compared to other ophthalmologists I’ve seen in the past. This has been the best experience I’ve ever had. Dr. Mandel and his staff are amazing. I met Dr. Mandel two years ago when I was on my hunt to find a laser eye surgeon. Everyone else said I was a candidate right away and wanted me to put a deposit the same day to get it done already. I felt unsure about them. When I saw Dr. Mandel, he was really the only one to tell me that I could be a candidate and other doctors would accept me right away but I should wait another two years to see if my eye test charts would be better. I had been wanting to have my eyes corrected for years due to very dry, irritable eyes with contacts. After a TON of research I decided to come in to Dr. Mandel for a consult. At first, he refused to treat me as my eyes showed sign of contact lens damage and it would be too risky. This was the first thing I really appreciated - that he wouldn’t just treat me anyways. Dr.Mandel did my PRK surgery last week and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After my fiancé and his mother both got their eyes done at Mandel Vision, I knew my eyes were in good hands. I made my consultation appointment for early June and the whole appointment was very easy yet thorough. My Laser Vision Consultant was Karem and she was very nice and explained everything throughout. I was -6.50 in both eyes and had PRK corrective surgery performed in Nov 2016 by Dr. Mandel. Two years later I'm still so thankful and amazed that I don't have to wear glasses anymore. I'll break down as much as I can here for people that are interested: I found Mandel Vision doing my own research online, I live in NYC and wanted to find who was the best in the city and if it was within my budget ($5000-6000). His offices came highly recommended. When I first visited I was taken back by the lobby, thinking it was a much smaller practice. Once I started going through my evaluation and exams, I realized they were much more specialized. Their offices have a very tight staff that is very friendly, communicates well, setup all of my future appointments called to remind me for each one. I didn't meet Dr. Mandel (I think) until my 3rd visit or so. His team of techs (not sure if they were also doctors) ran all of the exams and gave me my drops, prescriptions and instructions I needed up until surgery. They put me through 7 or so different tests measuring all sorts of different metrics for my eyes, nothing evasive just different screenings. It started with some things you'd get at an eye exam, but then there were more complex machines that measured your eye surface and produced charts I never got with any other eye exam in the past. Once I was ready for surgery, they had me go into a dark surgery room and lie down with clamps to keep my eyelids open. Your eyes are numbed prior by one of the techs / assistants, then once ready Dr Mandel comes in. They tell you before hand and while what's going on what is going to happen, you want to stare straight ahead at a light. At times it will be difficult but you just focus on it. They cover one eye, there's a popping sound of the laser tool, no smell like people have said to me. You see the light flickering, then some blue liquid is poured into your eye, then a protective lens is put on that is removed by the doctor at a later appointment. This took less than 5 minutes per eye, I didn't feel a thing. The most painful part of the procedure was the clamps keeping my eyelids open, which felt like a bad stretch of the skin. (Think when you're holding plastic grocery bags that are heavy for too long) YMMV Once done the doctor sat me up in a recovery room next door and had me look out a window to see everything pretty clearly, about 75-80% clear, without lenses or glasses for the first time. It was such a relief. I went home and rested, the next 3-4 days I didn't watch TV, use the computer or phone much. I started by using sunglasses all the time indoors as they recommended, it helped me tremendously. About two weeks later I could be comfortable without them indoors but I still carry sunglasses with me everywhere when I go out during days. There were follow-up appointments in increments, just to make sure there was no infections or complications. I felt my eyes were exceptionally dry and needed to go back for tear duct plugs a few weeks in. Then a month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year check-up. They want to keep an eye on my Glaucoma so I need to go back again, otherwise things have been incredible. I was 34 at the time, it was life changing for me, and I'd highly recommend the procedure and Mandel Vision to consult you for it. The total for my surgery was within my budget, just under $6000. It covered all my appointments and I had vision insurance for any co-pay or additional screenings I needed. This didn't include any prescriptions I had to fill or numerous pairs of sunglasses I had to buy for myself. I only had two issues after the surgery, none of which is Mandel Vision's fault. I was warned of all the things that can occur after surgery, the two that I have are light halos at night and more sensitive overall to light. Still, the ability to see without aid outweighed this so many times over. Thank you Dr Mandel and his exceptional team.

Dr. Mandel and his entire staff are incredible. I scheduled a Lasik consultation that went well and I was able to proceed with the surgery the following week. They're very efficient, which I really like - they have you download and complete the necessary forms for the consultation in advance of your visit and tell you to prep (no contacts and regular application of Refresh Tears) for a few days in advance of the consultation to ensure things run smoothly. On the day of my lasik surgery my nerves were pretty bad but the staff and Dr. Mandel did a great job talking me through it (very quick - maybe 5 minutes per eye) to keep me calm. I woke up the next morning feeling great and with perfect vision! Couldn't be happier!!

What can I say? The reviews did not lie. As the face of his practice, Doctor Mandel performs all the surgeries himself and takes you through a surprisingly comprehensive initial evaluation that comes at no cost to you. It took me 2 hours of eyeball scanning and imaging by his team of nurses and optometrists until I met the final boss himself, who also took a turn examining my soul through my medically-dilated eyes. You can look up his stellar credentials on his website but what especially drew me to his practice was the fact that he’s done so many of these surgeries in addition to research on the topic. I had a strong prescription of -9 with astigmatism in both eyes ON TOP of a medical history of psoriasis so I was wary of getting LASIK done in the first place. Doc Mandel being the careful guy he is, told me MAYBE on our first encounter after reviewing my chart. He consulted a research specialist to see how my psoriasis would play into the outcomes of the surgery AND he made me go through 6 weeks of reducing the dryness of my eyes to prepare me for a follow-up visit. He told me verbatim “I want your eyeballs as wet as possible.” Okay, doctor. After 6 weeks of having my tear-ducts blocked, using prescription strength rewetting drops, and looking like I was always on the brink of crying at work — I was approved for LASIK. The surgery itself is quick although you can expect some discomfort as the machine makes your vision fade to black and all you see is the blurry outline of a laser frying your only set of eyes. Dr. Mandel and Kim were great through the whole process, explaining every step to me in addition to throwing in some humming and joking to ease up my nerves. Post-operation instructions were thorough and Dr. Mandel even calls you the night of to see how you’re doing. Despite how busy he is as the only surgeon of his practice, he’s incredibly friendly and funny from the moment you meet him and he makes sure to answer all of your questions with certainty. Being a nurse myself, I really appreciate that both he and his team have excellent bedside manner and experience when it comes to these procedures. I’m 3 months glasses-free now and I went from a -9 eyeglass prescription to having just 1 line short of 20/20 on the visual acuity test. I’n a little disappointed that my vision wasn’t able to hit 20/20 and that it gets a little blurry from time to time, but I was told this was expected especially given my initial eyesight. Overall, I must say that it’s been an incredibly positive experience from beginning to end and has been well worth the money considering my initial concerns with the procedure. There are many LASIK surgeons in NYC to choose from but Dr. Mandel’s personalized approach to my eyesight and medical history and his wealth of experience on the subject made it a sure decision for me. I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering laser eye surgery.

Dr. Eric Mandel and his entire staff are amazing! I am 35 and have had glasses since the second grade. Over time my prescription went higher and higher, reaching right eye -11 and left eye -9. Those who have high prescription glasses know how bad the vision is and how one cannot see without glasses or contacts! Therefore, I wanted to have LASIK done for very long time but was hesitant to “touch” my eyes. Finally, after so many years, I decided to go for it. Before seeing Dr. Mandel, I went to 2 LASIK eye doctors for consultation and none of them guaranteed 20/20. They all offered LASIK. Then I came to see Dr. Mandel. From the very first moment interactions, I felt very comfortable and said to myself, “This is it. If go for LASIK, this will only be with Dr. Mandel” Dr. Mandel took his time, thoroughly examined my eyes and answered ALL my question. Then he said, I was a candidate for either LASIK or PRK. However, due high prescription and other factors, he definitely recommends safer route and go with PRK. PRK was better & safer choice. Dr. Mandel and his staff members explained to me every step prior to the PRK and post PRK procedure. It was exactly like they told me. There were no surprises!!! On the day after the PRK procedure, Dr. Mandel personally called my cell to ask how I was doing. This is a great feeling and shows a lot how Dr. Mandel cares about his patients… The only downside of the PRK is discomfort on day three (I had it on day 2), and healing time needed before I started driving and seeing better. Like I mentioned, I was informed about all these prior to the PRK and there were no surprises. On May 24th 2018, I had my 6 month checkup and my both eyes are little better than 20/20!!!! This is amazing! I can now wear sun glasses and NOT to think about contact lenses!!!! Dr. Mandel, Missy, Kim and all his staff members are very pleasant to work with, friendly and professional. Highly, highly and highly recommended to visit Dr. Mandel if you want to correct your eye sight. FYI: On the wall at Dr. Mandel’s office, there is very interesting newspaper article published many years ago on how Dr. Mandel saved eye sight of 7-year-old girl from Italy. I just left Dr. Mandel’s for my 4 week post op appointment. My vision on both eyes is better than 20/20 and still improving. I started out with -5.50 in the left eye with astigmatism and -5.25 in my right eye. While I was a candidate for both lasik and PRK, I chose PRK as the long term benefits and safety of the cornea Integrity outweighed the longer healing time. The day after surgery, I was able to return to work. Granted my font was zoomed in super big, I had no real discomfort or problems working after surgery. The only day that I had trouble opening my eyes was the morning of day 3 post op. However after resting my eyes that morning, I was able to complete some work in the afternoon. My vision definitely fluctuated the last 4 weeks, which was all normal. There were some days where my vision was super clear and some days where I could barely see at all but throughout my recovery, the entire team at Dr. Mandel’s reassured me that this was all normal and were super responsive to all my questions. If you’re getting PRK, definitely be patient with the recovery time but you’re in exceptional hands with Dr. Mandel.

From day one, Dr. Mandel and his staff have been attentive, respectful, diligent, and always tried to accommodate my schedule. My wife and I had the LASIK procedure done a few days ago (one day apart from each other) and had a very good experience. I now have better than 20/20. Any type of surgery can be nerve-racking, especially eye surgery. The entire procedure (for both eyes) takes about 10 minute, but there is a lot of preparation involved. The doctor and his staff walk you through the entire process and test your eyes using all sorts of machines. The doctor spends as much time as you need to explain the procedure (negative and positive) and helps you make your own decision. The day of the surgery there are a few more tests and then the procedure. After, you go home and rest. The doctor himself calls you to see how you’re doing. There is a next day follow-up, where the doctor tests your new vision and makes sure your eye are OK. My wife and I have a follow-up next week again to keep track of progress. The entire experience has been great. I highly recommend Mandel Vision to anyone.

I had PRK surgery done on both eyes in March of 2015. My vision prior to surgery was very poor, I was nearsighted with close to a -10.00 Rx in both eyes along with very high astigmatism. Good thing I have thick corneas! It is now post surgery about 7 weeks and I can see approximately 20/40 in both eyes (better in the right than my left). I still experience occasional dry eye, especially in the evenings, but that is expected and has gotten better over time. I had PRK done about 3 months ago, and am very happy with my experience. Dr. Mandel and his staff are very friendly and professional. I did a lot of research on Lasik vs PRK, and came in with a lot of questions, which Dr. Mandel and his team answered very clearly. I was made fully aware of all the potential outcomes of the procedure, and I was given alternatives, should I decide PRK was not the way I wanted to go. His staff was very helpful in explaining my payment options, and helped me figure out the best financing plan for me (I paid with a combination of FSA, insurance discounts and credit). The most important aspect of my choice was that Dr. Mandel does all of his own follow-up visits, rather than sending you to one of his staff or an outside optometrist. Since the first few months after the surgery are crucial to an optimal result, I wanted my surgeon overseeing my recovery. Dr. Mandel monitored my eyes and adjusted my steroid prescription when it became evident that I was healing ahead of schedule. I experienced minimal dry eye (which is now gone), and while I did have quite distracting halos on my night vision for 2 months, those are slowly fading. At 3 months, my vision is now 20/20, and will hopefully continue improving as I heal. I absolutely recommend Dr. Mandel to anyone considering Lasik or PRK.

I had LASIK done towards the end of October, so it has been over a little month since I had it done. It is amazing to be able to wake up and be able to see without my glasses or contacts. For the first week or two I would wake up still searching for my glasses forgetting that I was able to see haha. The service I had received at Dr Mandel's office was great. I had chosen him after thorough research online and reading many reviews. I went in for a consultation which was about an hour of a few different tests to measure my eyes and determine the strength of my vision- tests that all felt thorough. The staff always able to answer my questions throughout the consultation. I met with Dr Mandel at the end of the consultation and was told I would be a good candidate, from there I waited a few weeks to go ahead (I also needed to have at least two weeks with my contacts out). I was pretty nervous the day of but reassured that it would be quick and easy. I waited in a quiet room sitting in a massage chair before going in. I won't lie the most painful part of it all was having my lids pulled and held open, otherwise the actual LASIK was painless and quick. Dr Mandel was great, keeping me calm throughout the whole thing. Afterwards, I went home and took the Tylenol PM that they had given me and slept for the rest of the night and woke up being able to really see. Dr Mandel had called to follow up with me the same night, however the Tylenol PM really did its job haha. I went to a follow up appointment the day after, as well as a week later- Dr Mandel telling me that I had better than 20/20 after each appointment! My next appointment will be in January. A month later I am still seeing great with no issues, with the exception of dry eyes a few weeks after I had LASIK done- which has since resolved with the use of systane eye ointment that Dr Mandel had suggested I use. Overall, I would recommend Dr Mandel to anyone, I was very pleased with everything!

Dr. Mandel made my Lasik experience an excellent one from start to finish. Here's why: 1) Thorough exam and consultation: This is not your average annual eye checkup. My eyes were carefully examined and screened to make sure I was a good candidate for Lasik. All my questions were answered before I decided to go ahead with the procedure. The day of the procedure, another checkup was done to make sure I was good to go. 2) Personalized care: Gabby, the nurse, and Dr. Mandel talked to me throughout the procedure which was very calming and reassuring. I felt safe and in good hands at all times. 3) Consistent follow-up care: Dr. Mandel called the same evening to check how I was doing after the surgery. I have been to two follow-up visits since and continue to be happy with the level of care I receive from him and his team. Needless to say: Lasik is a life-changing experience and I appreciate my new vision every single day when I wake up without having to reach for my glasses :-)

I recently had the pleasure of having LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Mandel. Throughout the entire process, starting with my consultation, Dr. Mandel and his staff could not have been more attentive and put me at ease by answering any and all questions I had regarding the process. I could not be more thrilled with the results...within seconds after my surgery I could see clearly, which is something of a miracle considering I was at nearly -7 in both eyes before the procedure. I just went back for a check-up and now have above 20/20 vision in both eyes. I could not recommend Dr. Mandel enough for LASIK eye surgery.

I had Lasik in September 2019 here and I am so happy with my vision - better than 20/20, I have 20/15 vision now! Previously I wore contacts and my prescription was -5.50. I have worn glasses and contacts since I was 8 years old, and am now 31. This was absolutely life changing and I only wish I had done it sooner. Sometimes I still have to remind myself that I *don't* have to take out my contacts at the end of the day and put on my glasses. I was recommended to Dr. Mandel and his team from my GP, whose son had had Lasik here. Dr. Mandel and his staff are incredibly professional, personable and top notch at what they do. I was very nervous prior to the procedure but they put my concerns at ease. I especially loved the relaxation room they have prior to surgery, with massage chairs and a mini bar full of snacks! They also give you a stuffed animal during the actual surgery and I clutched that thing like my life depended on it - it was a very helpful stress ball alternative! During the surgery Dr. Mandel and his assistant explained step by step what to do which made me feel safe; they had light casual conversation between themselves which also helped keep me calm. The post-op was painful to be honest, it felt like sand was in my eyes and I found it hard to sleep. My right eye was pretty painless but my left eye was the painful eye (FYI this is normal). However, after 24 hours I was feeling better and after 48 hours I was MUCH better. Dr. Mandel also gives you a call that evening after your initial sleep, which is awesome and unheard of from most doctors these days. I travelled abroad to Asia the week after my surgery without any complications. The gel eye drops Dr. M gave me for the night really helped. TBH, I had very dry itchy eyes my entire life and I read that dry eyes can get worse after Lasik but I have had the opposite experience. I used to rub my eyes at least twice a day before surgery and now I never rub them and they rarely itch. After 2 weeks I felt completely healed and now, almost 3 months later, I feel like I have a brand new set of eyes thanks to Dr. Mandel and his fantastic staff. If you are considering Lasik, I would not go anywhere else but here. THANK YOU!!!!

Nothing but great things to say about Dr. Mandel and Mandel Vision. LASIK surgery went well, only some discomfort for 24 hours. After that, I had better than 20/20 vision, and no dry eye! I feel really lucky ... it's probably the greatest investment I've ever made. Being able to just sleep and wake up without thinking about contacts is just amazing. Definitely go with Dr. Mandel, you will be in the best hands ... and with something like your eyes, you want to go with the best.

*If you’re terrified, read this review!* I’m 30 years old and I had been wearing contacts for as long as I could remember - until one day I became “contact intolerant.” I dealt with this, along with a multitude of other eyes issues, for nearly a year. With a prescription of -7.50 in both eyes, I knew I couldn’t wear glasses every day for the rest of my life... which led me to LASIK. (Before I go there. To sum my “mental state” up in a nutshell, I personally think the eye doctor is worse than the dentist. I cry about getting the “puff of air” and never, ever let anyone dilate my pupils. I’m pretty much scared of all things eye-related.) One day, my extremely discerning coworker walked into work without her glasses (she got PRK), and I knew I had to make an appointment with her doctor immediately, given her impeccable taste. That led me straight to Dr. Mandel. After an initial consultation, he told me I was a candidate for LASIK or PRK. I chose LASIK based on the recovery time and made an appointment for the following week. I didn’t want to talk myself out of it. Leading up to the surgery, I couldn’t sleep, but when I got there everyone in the office made me feel comfortable and Dr. Mandel happily answered my billions of questions. This is a major perk of choosing Dr. Mandel. Everyone in the office is smart, friendly and caring. The procedure itself was quick and relatively painless - they numb your eyes and eyelids so that all you feel is pressure. Before I had time to decide if anything “hurt” or not, it was over anyway. He took my hands to get up from the chair, and I’ve never felt more grateful to anyone before. Afterwards, he said my eyes looked good and that I was a very boring patient, which is his highest compliment! My husband took me home (I truly recommend bringing someone for moral & physical support if you can) and my eyes felt uncomfortable until I fell asleep. Once I woke up, it was much better and has continued to improve since then. I just had my 1-week appointment and Dr. Mandel said I’m doing great, still boring, which is all I could hope for. I highly recommend Dr. Mandel because he’s an expert. I’m not usually a big spender, but when it comes to my eyes I’d rather choose someone who charges a little more and consistently does a perfect job rather than trying to save any money. In the end, you only have one pair of eyes and Dr. Mandel will treat them well.

Dr Mandel and his staff are awesome! I was possibly one of their most nervous patients ever but because if the comfort of knowing he was an expert and because of their kindness and patience with me, I was able to gather enough courage to go through with the procedure. It took me about 2 months to fully heal from the LASIK (though I was mostly good to go within a few days - it took a few months for the dryness and halo effects to go away.). My only complaint is the expensive price tag here, but for me, I was willing to pay extra to know I was in good hands and that I was truly a good candidate for this and not just being sold on a procedure I shouldn't actually be doing.

Great experience overall. For years I knew I wanted LASIK and finally decided to take the plunge. I did my research and eventually settled on Dr. Eric Mandel, one consultation with him and I knew this would be my guy. Being a surgeon myself, there are certain criteria and characteristics I look for, and he clicked all those boxes. Setting everything up was super easy and stream lined. I was a candidate for both LASIK and PRK. I decided to go with PRK (which also has a longer recovery time). Like everyone else said, the actual surgery took only a few minutes. I had no pain, and only minimal discomfort post-op. Discomfort was only present during the 2nd day. It's been about 6 weeks now, I'm seeing 20/20. I'm back to where I was pre-surgery with contacts. Thus far, I have had NO complications. Halos, starbursts...whats that!? Overall experience has been great! 100% satisfied.

I have been hesitant about Lasik for about 2 years and finally decided to get it done this past year. I had gone to 2 other Lasik centers/offices but Dr. Mandel's team and office staff were very thorough, gentle and nice throughout the whole process. I can't explain it but it gave me good vibes and I knew I was in competent hands. Dr. Mandel gave great advice and prepped me to my most optimal eye recovery process. I had it done and see a bit better than 20/20 5 weeks since and recovered well. The initial day had watery eyes and some eye pressure on one eye but after rest, everything else has been seamless as post op follow up and instructions were clear. I recommend him to anybody as I think people who looks to do Lasik just wants to be in safe and expert hands and that was my experience.

I got PRK at Mandel Vision and had a great experience. I was wearing contacts that were -9.5 and -8.5 before my surgery and started wearing glasses in 3rd grade. I wore glasses for 5 weeks before the surgery which was not fun but probably helped with my process and recovery! The procedure itself was swift and easy, and Dr. Mandel was so matter-of-fact about it all that he totally calmed my nerves. The check-ins were easy and lo and behold...got it in February and here I am now, 20/20 vision. The recovery is a little annoying for PRK but I'll take a month of imperfect vision for a lifetime of 20/20 any day. Can't recommend this place more!

Highly recommend this practice! My wife and I both went to Dr. Mandel when we were permitted to given COVID. Clean office and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. I also appreciated Dr. Mandel humor, it helped lighten the mood when I was a bit nervous about the procedure. While the experience of LASIK itself is pretty unpleasant, that is no fault of Dr. Mandel's. A laser is cutting into your cornea after all... but given my experience, I would do it again with Dr. Mandel in an instant.

I had my LASIK surgery done in January, 2013 and was recently seen for a routine follow up only to learn that my vision is still 20/15! My overall experience with the office was wonderful. I primarily spoke to Nancy (part of Dr. Mandel's administrative staff) regarding scheduling and payment and she was fantastic. The clinical staff was amazing as well. Dr. Mandel is very sweet and his bedside manner is calming which is exactly what most people need while undergoing surgery. My only recommendation for the office would be to prescribe a minimal amount of pain killers for post surgery. I live in NJ and the drive home (as a passenger obviously) from NYC to NJ was uncomfortable. I had a difficult time getting to sleep because of the discomfort and medication would have helped get through this. Otherwise, I woke up the following day and felt great. Waking up to the gift of sight is a feeling I will never forget. Huge thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mandel and his team!

After reading online reviews of other LASIK providers, I wasn't sure if I would still proceed with LASIK. After meeting Dr. Mandel I knew I had found the place for my LASIK treatment. Dr. Mandel and his staff were extremely kind and helpful throughout the entire process from the minute I walked in the door for my initial consultation through the post op evaluations. During the evaluation, Dr. Mandel noticed that my left optic nerve was slightly swollen and referred me to a Neuro-Ophthalmologist for a second opinion prior to performing surgery. I appreciated this extra level of detail and caution, as other places would’ve most likely overlooked this and proceeded with the surgery. I would 100% recommend Dr. Mandel to anyone considering LASIK and am very happy with the results. 1 week post operation currently and my eyes feel great!

Dr. Mandel and his staff are true professionals and make you feel very comfortable and welcome. I spend a few years debating LASK, then finally went for the consultation and within a week I was done with the surgery. It was a little overwhelming at first but turned out to be the best thing I've ever done. It is not a big crowded overstaffed doctors office. Mandel Vision is more of a boutique type of office which speaks volumes because out of the 3 appointments I had, I showed up early, was taken early, and was finished before my original appointment was supposed to begin. Dr. Mandel is a very funny quirky guy but a master at his field. From his fist pump handshake to his follow up call the night after surgery and his availability on his cell phone anytime, this is the only place you should go to get LASIK.

It was a positive experience for me - it meant that they weren't just about making money but that they had my best interests in mind. Dr. Mandel and his team have dramatically improved my vision and changed my life! At the start they conducted a thorough (about two-hours) evaluation on my eyes. The staff was professional, patient, and efficient. Dr. Mandel would periodically check in on me and explain what the results of the tests meant. After the evaluation, he informed me I was eligible for both PRK and LASIK. I chose PRK because it's the safer procedure that provides equally good, if not better, results than LASIK. The downside is a slower, more painful recovery. Between the evaluation and the procedure, they answered all my questions. On the day of the procedure, they ran several tests to make sure I was still a good candidate. While I was in the waiting room, Dr. Mandel stopped by and reassured me. The procedure was uncomfortable but short. At the end Dr. Mandel escorted me to a side room, opened the blinds, and asked me what I could see. I was amazed at how clear and sharp everything was--and I still am! I cannot thank Dr. Mandel and his team enough for their skill and compassion!

I'm saying "liked it," rather than "loved it" only because who likes to get their eyeballs lasered? I went into this experience very nervous. I've had glasses/contacts since second grade and my vision was -9.50 in each eye, and my biggest fear was coming out of surgery worse than before (something a doctor once told me was a possibility many years ago). Dr. Mandell assured me he wouldn't take me on as patient if he didn't think he could correct my vision. And although I didn't qualify for standard Lasik, I did qualify for another version: PRK, which for the patient is mostly just a different healing process. Though recovery was no picnic, everything that Dr. Mandell said would happen in my recovery, happened- which was comforting even though it was painful and uncomfortable at some points. I'm now 3 months post-op and have 20/20 vision without glasses. Something I never thought I'd say! I'd definitely recommend Doctor Mandell if you're considering laser vision correction. It has absolutely changed my life.

I had PRK about six weeks ago and can't say enough about Dr. Mandel and his staff, who are a perfect mix of warmth and professionalism. Although I was very nervous the day of my surgery, I was confident that I was in good hands and the staff did everything in their power to make me feel more at ease. If you choose to do PRK, Dr. Mandel will explain to you that it will take longer for your vision to improve than with LASIK (as he says, "You'll love me slower"). In those first couple weeks after surgery, my vision did fluctuate a lot, which could be a bit disconcerting and frustrating at times (definitely listened to a lot of audiobooks!) - but just remember that it's totally normal and totally worth it and it will get better. My vision is already better than 20/20. If you're on the fence - do it! It is truly life-changing and Dr. Mandel and his staff are the best.

I would recommend Dr. Mandel to anyone. I have needed glasses for the past 19 years and I didn't remember what it was like to see. Also I wore contacts for the past 16 years and my corneas were slightly scratched. I'm so lucky I found a doctor who knew how to best fix my vision without damaging my eyes. I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Mandel. I first went to see him about 2 1/2 years ago and got a consultation and although I could have done the surgery, I personally wasn't quite ready to go for it. He simply gave me his card and said I could come back in the future (no pressure). About a year later I came back and scheduled my PRK surgery. I had very poor vision and was about -9 or -10 in both eyes and it was getting increasingly difficult to live with contacts since my eyes always bothered me. I literally couldn't see without contacts or glasses. Dr. Mandel answered any and all questions that I had and the actual surgery (both eyes) was really quick. The recovery for PRK is harder (longer/more painful) than lasik but now that it's over, it was completely worth doing. My whole life has changed and being able to wake up and see is incredible. Dr. Mandel called me the evening after my surgery to check on me which I appreciated and I went to see him the next day. Now I am about 4 months post op and my eyes are doing very well! I can see perfectly. There are many tests that you go through before this surgery so that the surgery is customized for each patient, and I would definitely recommend doing either lasik or PRK with Dr. Mandel.

I went to Dr. Mandel for lasik on a recommendation from a friend and I'm so happy I did! I started by going to the free consultation and all the staff and Dr. Mandel were very helpful and patient in walking me through the different options (PRK vs lasik) and what to expect. The dr is also so friendly and makes you feel comfortable every step of the way. On the day of the procedure, everyone again was great in making me feel comfortable and making sure I knew what to expect. They even made sure I had all the correct paperwork for insurance. They have massage chairs and snacks while you wait, which is a cute touch. The procedure itself isn't fun, but it's over and done with quickly - and way less scary if you know what to expect. 100% worth it for better vision! You can tell that the dr really knows what he's doing and my eyesight is now even better than it was before WITH contacts. If you're thinking about lasik, do it and do it with dr mandel!

I had PRK done by Dr. Mandel 10 days ago, and while the PRK recovery itself is inherently discomforting and my vision is still in the process of healing, dealing with Dr. Mandel and his staff was a pleasure. Based on my copious amounts of research, placing your vision in the hands of Dr. Mandel appears to be the safest bet you can make in the New York tri-state. It’s a busy practice due to his renown, but I was glad to see myself in and out of the office quickly, all tests run precisely and multiple times, all questions patiently answered, and the surgery itself lasting mere minutes. Their pre and post-op instructions are meticulous, but for good reason, so be sure to follow them to the letter. You can clearly see they use the latest excimer and wavefront-guided technology approved by the FDA in 2018 - the VISX Star S4 with iDesign; they’ll even show it to you through the OR doors. Still awaiting final visual acuity results which takes a few months with PRK, but I’m hopeful and confident I made the right decision in choosing the best. P.S. If you opt for PRK, be sure to educate yourself as well in what the recovery process looks like to avoid calling the doctor about every annoyance. That being said, I did have to text him once due a reaction I had to one of the mandatory eye drops. He called me back within 1 minute of me sending the text - at 11pm on a Friday night. That’s freaking cool.

I had Lasik surgery in 1999 and have been going to Dr. Mandel ever since for annual checkups. I have had literally NO issues with my eyes since the surgery - I am 20/20 in both eyes and this has been one of the greatest things ever. I always struggled to keep contacts in (I have dry eyes) and glasses were not a great option when playing sports, so this has been truly amazing. I still have dry eyes (I use wetting drops occasionally) but other than that, still going strong at 48 years old - I don't even need reading glasses yet. Dr. Mandel and the staff are always pleasant and friendly. The annual checkups are simple - the only issue is they dilate your eyes so you really can't read for a few hours after but that's it. If you are thinking about Lasik, I could not recommend Mandel Vision more highly. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Nothing but good experiences at Mandel Vision. They're thorough (there's lot of tests to determine whether you're a good candidate or not, and before the actual surgery), not pushy (see other LASIK providers), and the staff are great (Dr. Mandel's a good guy). I had LASIK here and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Keep in mind that this is probably one of the pricier places though.

I had my lasik procedure done by Dr. Mandel at the beginning of January and it has been life changing! The staff at Dr. Mandel's office was great from the initial consultation to the day of the procedure and through all of my subsequent follow-up visits. Dr. Mandel answered all of the questions I had and he even answered the questions that I hadn't asked, but should have! There was just one minor miscommunication between us on what I was allowed to do the very next day, but I wrote that off as me not paying enough attention because I was anxious to get home after the procedure. All in all, the team at Dr. Mandel's office was great!

I had lasik surgery in 1999 for astigmatism and near sighted. I use to wear contacts/glasses and like any other person, grew tired of all the drama that came with it (finding them ripped upon packaging, eye infections, especially if you wear makeup and countless money spent upon frames). Almost 20 years later and I can still see perfectly. I highly recommend it! It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not only is Dr. Eric Mandel one of the best doctors responsible for the technique, but he is down to earth. You won't be able to say no after your first consultation.

I am now 1 week post-lasik and very happy with my experience with Dr. Mandel. My vision before Lasik was about -6 or -6.5 and I'd been wearing glass since I was about 10 years old. I was thinking about Lasik for a while just because I hated the feeling of being so reliant on glasses, groping for them in the morning, having them slide off my face playing tennis or doing yoga... all the little things. I finally decided to just go in for a free consultation, still not sure if I would go for it, or which doctor I would choose if I did decide to do it. The consultation at Mandel Vision was very thorough (expect to be there for a good 1.5-2 hours). I appreciated this and also the fact that it was clear that Dr. Mandel turns many people away - ie he won't push people to do the surgery if he doesn't believe they are good candidates. After finding out I was a good candidate, I still wasn't sure about it and also realized that Dr. Mandel is on the expensive side, so I still considered going somewhere else for the procedure. In the end, however, I decided it was worth it for a few reasons: - the thoroughness of the consultation reassured me that they would be thorough and careful in the surgery - Dr. Mandel is clearly someone who strives for perfection and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to improve people's vision - While he is a bit more expensive, I realized after some research that some other places seem a lot cheaper but may not be in the long run (for example, they may be cheaper by a $2-3k, but then that doesn't include followup visits, which they'll charge $250/visit, for 6-8 visits over the next year. Or they may charge for a revision if it's necessary.) So in the end, the price difference seemed worth it to go with someone so experienced and professional. - The procedure Dr. Mandel offered is called Intralase and is completely blade free. I don't know if this is now the standard everywhere, but after watching some youtube videos of other versions (AFTER mine was done :) ) I'm very happy I went with this version of the surgery. - Everyone in the office is very nice, comforting and accommodating. This alone wouldn't be enough to sway me, but it is nice to have when going through something that can be a bit scary. - I only have one pair of eyes in this life. I'm not saying that more expensive always means something is better, but in this case, for all the reasons listed, I decided it was worth it. On the day of the procedure, they helped me feel comfortable and as relaxed as I could be given the circumstances. The procedure itself was a bit of a surreal experience, but totally painless. It's unnerving the have all this stuff going on in your eyes while you're awake, but the whole thing only took about 10 minutes, and then Dr. Mandel took me into another room to recover for a few minutes, and opened the blinds to show me that I could see! I went home, took an advil PM and rested for a bit with no pain, just some minor discomfort that felt like dry eyes. Now one week post-op. Having all the expected side effects (which Dr. Mandel made sure I knew about before the procedure) - dry eyes (putting in drops a couple of times every hour), night vision or dim lighting is a little bit hard to see, some minor halos around bright lights, slightly fluctuating vision. Even so, my vision is now 20/20 and the side effects seem to be getting better over time. Hopefully that will continue! It's so strange and awesome to not need glasses any more - I still reach to adjust them several times a day before realizing they're not there!

Before visiting Dr. Mandel, my vision was horrid -- my prescription was -9 in my left eye, -8 in my right. I had been wanting LASIK for some time, and finally decided to bite the bullet and schedule a consultation. No time like the present, right? I did loads of research on LASIK specialists in NYC and decided to investigate Dr. Mandel's practice due to his huge amount of positive media and client praise and his long history with the procedure (including his pioneering work on the technology). Long story short, I went in for my consultation and found Dr. Mandel and his staff delightful, cheery and welcoming. I booked my procedure (PRK) then and there. On the day of the deed his team made the whole process easy, relaxing, and stress-free -- they served me soda and snacks in a massage chair while I waited for my turn with the Lasers, gave me a pretty manly stuffed football to hold and chatted with me throughout the (extremely brief and painless) operation. They even pretended to laugh at my awkward, nervous attempts at humor. What fine folk. That was all about four months ago. I'm sitting at my computer now with 20/15 vision, my freedom from contacts and glasses still, in the best possible way, bizarrely surreal. Reminding myself that I don't have to take lenses out of my eyes each night is awesome, and waking up in the morning to a room that is immediately crystal clear is something I haven't known since I was five years old. It has been exactly one year since I had my Lasik surgery done by Doctor Mandel. I waited a whole year to leave this review because I was skeptical that the results would last. I want to start by saying that my Lasik surgery by Dr. Mandel was a total success and I am now seeing 22/20. I decided to get my Lasik surgery done because I got tired of wearing eye glasses and spending lots of money in eye contacts. While doing my research trying to find the best Lasik surgeon in New York, I noticed that Dr. Mandel stood out, so I read the previous reviews and I scheduled an appointment. At the clinic I was very well treated, their customer service was extraordinary. They made me all kinds of eye exams and concluded that I was eligible to get the procedure. Dr. Mandel explained the kinds of surgeries I could have and took the time to answer all my questions regarding my eyes and the surgery. Well, to make this review short, I made another appointment for the surgery and had it done. The preparation for the surgery took around one hour, and the surgery itself was about 8 minutes long. Right after the surgery, I wasn’t able to see very clearly but it got better after a couple of days. I will also have to say that my eyes were red for about 10 days, so your eyes might look like the eyes of some “Walking Dead” zombie for a few days. After two weeks, I was seeing better than ever before in my life. My sight is now 22/20, and everything I see is in full HD. It is like seeing the world in different way, now I get to see stuff that wasn’t able to see before. I can give you a million examples of the things I can see better now, it is just unbelievable. Another thing that I want to mention is the price. I was able to compare Dr. Mandel prices with other surgeons and clinics and I found Dr. Mandel’s price is a little bit higher than others but it is very well worth it. When it comes to my eyes I wouldn’t risk it. After getting the Lasik and seeing the results I can tell you I would have paid a lot more if I knew I was going to see this well. I highly recommend Dr. Mandel, he is just the best around…and no, I am not getting paid to write this review, I am just very satisfied and happy for the Lasik and its results.

The consultation was free but the testing was very thorough - more so than the eye exams I've had at my regular optometrist. Dr. Mandel showed me the results and quickly went through them, explaining that they were very normal and that I was a good candidate for both LASIK and PRK. After he explained the differences between the two procedures I leaned towards PRK, but he said I could choose even right before the surgery. I did choose PRK after doing some of my own research later. The procedure was very quick - a minute or so for each eye. Due to the numbing drops there was no pain, although there is some pressure and discomfort from the clamps used to hold your eyelids open and the tool used to scrape off the protective layer covering the cornea. After the procedure, Dr. Mandel took me to a window and I could see pretty well - not perfectly clear but better than my previous uncorrected vision. I went to my 1 week post-op visit 2 days ago and my left eye tested 20/20. My right eye was slightly worse (I think 20/30) but still pretty clear. That was an incredible feeling since before the surgery my eyes were -4.5 diopter, which is probably not worth describing in snellen scale since it'd be 20/<some absurdly large number>. They were surprised as apparently it normally takes 2 or more weeks for patients to recover to that level of clarity after PRK. I also experienced no pain and very little light sensitivity, which was unexpected considering all the disconcerting PRK recovery stories I'd read online prior to the procedure. It was a life changing moment to wake up and realize that I could just see, without fumbling for my glasses like I've done for the last 15 years. This is the best thing I've spent money on and that'll probably remain true for a long time to come. Anyone considering getting laser vision correction will definitely be in good hands with Dr. Mandel!

I waited two months to submit this review for the reason that I want to see how the Lasik going after procedure. I received recommendation for Mandel Vision from a close friend. I had been looking around the idea of getting LASIK done for two months. At one point an opportunity came when my friend successfully finished LASIK procedure at Mandel Vision. I went there and they have finished pre-test that I was a LASIK Candidate and qualify for the LASIK. So that's what I expected to hear when I went to Dr. Mandel. The whole experience was very comfortable and easy-going - which is what you need when you put your eyes in a precious situation. The consultation to the actual procedure, I was in a harmony pace with the staff and the Doctor himself. The procedure is professional and possessing relaxing music. The Doctor run a series of tests to make sure that you are a candidate for the surgery and to thoroughly understand what my prescription was to properly correct for it. I highly recommend Eric Mandel for anyone who is seeking to improve their vision by Lasik Procedure. The initial consultation helped answer all my questions and worries about the process. I had a personal consultant to answer my questions such as whether I will get blind after the procedure, or what shall I do after the procedure. My consultant made it a warm environment and allowed me to understand what was to be expected. The procedure itself was very quick and painless. I had it done in the afternoon, and I was able to see that evening. It's almost a year since I had PRK on both eyes and I'm very happy with the results, would definitely do it all over again. The procedure itself lasted only a few seconds on each eye, followed by a couple of uncomfortable (but not really painful) days. I had some problems afterwards with eye dryness so I got tear duct plugs which did the job and don't bother me at all. I'm a physician myself and have a particularly good judgment in the quality of medical care. I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Mandel.

For as long as I can remember, my eyesight has been negatively affected by a mixed astigmatism - meaning both eyes are both farsighted and nearsighted... Basically that translated to everything being just slightly out of focus whether it was near or far. I hated wearing glasses and I could never get contacts into my eyes comfortably enough to not immediately want to rip my eyes out. For the past 10+ years I've just squinted to try to get things into focus and done the best I can. I was intrigued by Lasik surgery but concerned about the risks and about the fact that any elective surgery is a risk that, by definition, you don't have to take. With something as serious as your eyesight I wanted to make sure it was worth the risk. Choosing Dr Mandel and his staff was the best possible thing I could have done to mitigate this risk and to assure myself that I was in the best hands possible. Their facilities are top quality, their staff is very nice but also incredibly efficient and thorough. If Dr Mandel's experience, accolades, and previous positions of importance don't fully capture your confidence, speaking with him immediately will remove any doubt. He doesn't take unnecessary risks and will turn you away immediately if you are not a candidate he feels confident he can help see better after the procedure than they did before with minimal risks taken. He is not only knowledgeable and experienced but kind and calming - which turned out to be a more important part of the procedure than I anticipated. I'm a generally calm and relaxed person, but when your eyes are being held open in a dark room with strange equipment and flashing lights around you, anyone would feel a little nervous - especially for such an important thing as altering your eyesight. But it's nothing like what I imagined (like the Ludovico Transformer Treatment in A Clockwork Orange) and Dr Mandel and the woman assisting him were great. They were careful to talk me through exactly what was happening, what I should be feeling, and how far through the process we were (which is, remarkably, only 3 minutes per eye). At no point during what preceded the procedure, the procedure, or what followed did I not have a thorough understanding of what I should be experiencing. Dr. Mandel and his staff are as good as it gets. As far as the experience, I'd describe it as uncomfortable during the short procedure but in no way painful. Getting home I would also describe as uncomfortable but not painful. After sleeping for 6 hours I felt 70% better. The following morning I felt 90% better and had better than 20/20 vision at my follow up appointment. 2 days later the only thing I could even realize is that my eyes were still adjusting and maybe working a bit harder than usual. There were still some halos around bright lights (which if you know they are going away eventually are actually pretty interesting!). I use wetting drops occasionally when my eyes feel dry and I still have some strong redness in my eyes, which will go away over the next week or two. All in all, it's the best money you could spend. To see the world in full focus without squinting, wearing glasses, or jamming uncomfortable contacts into my eyes is an incredible thing and I'm grateful to Dr Mandel for taking such good care of my eyes.

I had my Lasik procedure done by Dr. Mandel 3 days ago and I am extremely happy with the results! Not only were the results fantastic (20/20 in both eyes), but I was also very impressed with Dr. Mandel and his staff, from the free consultation where Dr. Mandel and Missy fielded all of my questions, to the day of the procedure (the procedure was less than 10 minutes for both eyes), to now the post-op care and followups. I do have some "starbursts" at night, but this was discussed ahead of time by Dr. Mandel as a common post-op symptom (only been 3 days) and anticipate this to diminish in upcoming months. If you are considering Lasik, I recommend getting a free consultation by Dr. Mandel to see if you are candidate, I was very happy with my experience there.

I love Dr. Mandel. The professionalism is incredible. They have a "relaxation room" where you can sit in a massage chair prior to your surgery. He also calls you later than night to see how you are doing. When is the last time you had a doctor call you personally? I have had NO problems post op. My only feedback is that I wish they had a flexible payment plan. The surgery can put a heavy dent on one's wallet and can be difficult to pay for something like that all upfront.

I went for an consult sometime in Aug and i had my surgery on sept 5th. From the moment i went him, dr mandel and his team was nice and gave the top nouch service. I went for the PRK surgery (didnt want my eye cut) and dr mandel talked me through the surgery so i wasnt nervous at all and a month later, as of today my vision is clear. Heres the beeakdown I been wearing glasses since the second grade. I am 30 years old. My vision was around the negative 8 something, close to 9. Which means without my glasses, everything was extremely blurry. And my eyes were prone to dryness. And i also had astigmatism. Was the surgery expensive? Yes but you can pay monthly if you want that option. Is it worth it? Hell yes because besides wearing polarized sunglasses outside (they have cute options on amazon if you dont want the ugly ones) everything else was fine. The first 3 days post op were annoying (they will tell you what to expect) And if you follow the post op orders, you shoild be fine. Dr. Mandel and his team were great and i reccomend him to anyone because he knows what he is doing. Plain and simple

On Tues, June 25th I had bladeless LASIK (IntraLace I believe that is what it's called) surgery done on both eyes at Mandel Vision and am really happy with the results. Here's my experience in case it helps anyone who is considering having it done with Dr. Mandel or other. I was nearsighted with about 20/400 vision and I wore contact lenses for about 20 years, but in the past 6 months or so, my eyes just couldn't handle contacts any longer. I don't know if it was because the manufacturers changed the material (I tried a few different brands, but it didn't help) or because eventually your eyes just end up rejecting contacts. This was very frustrating for me because I enjoy playing lots of sports and wearing glasses just wasn't an option for some sports. I decided to take a look at LASIK and did some online research on risks, etc. Based on this research, I concluded that LASIK is a relatively safe surgery with small but real risks (some small and some devastating risks). Based on my research, I created a shortlist of 3 doctors I thought were solid based on reviews, etc. I suggest you do the same and then think about the following aspects as it relates to each doctor: Pre-surgery risk: Your doctor needs to do a thorough check to see if you are a good candidate, i.e. the shape of your cornea, thickness of your cornea, etc. It's crucial that you get an accurate assessment and I suspect that different doctors have different thresholds for the level of risk they are willing to take with your eyes. I recommend you get at least 3 assessments and compare. When deciding whether to go ahead, I would take into account the most conservative assessment (most cautious) in your decision making. Also, pay attention to how busy the office is. You'll notice that cheaper options tend to be busier and I suspect that the busier an office is the more chances of human error / mistakes. Surgery risk: There are many risks here including the malfunctioning of the laser equipment, human error during various stages of the surgery, etc. I suggest you watch all three doctors perform a surgery on one of their patients. It's a bit freaky to watch, but it will test your resolve to go forward with it and you will notice differences between the 3 doctors. For example, one of the doctors I watched perform the surgery was just too nonchalant about it. He, nor the assistant, wore face or head surgery masks and did not restrict mobile phones inside the operating room (which can perhaps interfere with the equipment). After watching the surgeries, Dr. Mandel and his staff appeared the most thorough and attentive to these details. So, I decided I felt the safest with Dr. Mandel. Post-surgery risk: Infection appears to be the biggest risk, so you want to trust that your doctor and his staff will be careful during surgery. You will have to make sure you follow your doctors post op instructions carefully. You'll have to use an antiobiotic and steroid eye drop and not touch your eyes at all, etc I'm sure there were other considerations that I overlooked, etc, but the bottom line is that after thinking about all of the above, I went with Dr. Mandel because I felt the safest with him and his staff. Today is July 1st, seven days after my surgery and everything is well with my eyes. I can see better than 20/20; I can stop using the eye drops; my eyes are not dry and there are no issues. Both eyes are a bit red, but the redness is fading each day. I'm extremely happy and would recommend Dr. Mandel based on my experience, but don't take my word for it, spend some time to research, think and compare options and then go with your gut. You only have one set of eyes so don't rush into surgery without being fully informed. I wish you all the best if you decide to do it!

Let me first preface this review by saying that I do not scare easily, nor am I unfamiliar to pain. I love extreme sports and have overcome most of my deepest fears. For the longest time, having eye surgery was a huge fear of mine. Years ago, my previous two attempts to overcome this fear were unsuccessful, despite having heard many success stories from fellow friends and family. Earlier this year, I decided to finally go for it, I researched all the best doctors and asked for many recommendations. I went to several pre-screening appointments with other doctors and although, there were cheaper alternatives, I went with Mandel Vision because of their thorough examination process, friendly knowledgeable staff and no pressure sales tactics. I was not going to sacrifice quality of care to save a few bucks. I am glad I went with Mandel Vision. Now before you brush this off as a typical positive review, let me walk you through MY EXPERIENCE during the procedure. From what I'm told, most people's experiences are unlike mine, but just so you're prepared for all cases, here goes... Although, I had been mentally prepared as best I could for the surgery, I still had doubts, fears and general anxiety over the procedure. Dr. Mandel and staff explained the steps of the procedure in great detail, but when I was put in the operating chair, my nerves and anxiety started to get the best of me. The clamps put on the eye to hold it in place put an uncomfortable amount of pressure on my eye ball. Having heard many people telling me about how painless the procedure was, I had reason to believe something was not right. Internal panic set in. Dr. Mandel could tell I was uneasy and did his best to calm my nerves by explaining everything I was hearing, feeling and even smelling. The second eye felt even worse, because as the doctor explained, its your brain trying to tell you that you've undergone and trauma and to avoid it as best you can. This makes sense, because the procedure was the same as the first eye, but my sensitivity and discomfort was heightened. I was a nervous wreck during and even immediately after the surgery, and because of this, everything felt worse than it really was. The actual laser correction IS painless however. It feels like a cat's whiskers tickling your eye ball. Also, after the surgery, the quicker you can get to bed to sleep, the better, because during the time you leave the office and get home, this time sucks. Everything is fuzzy because you're tearing, your eyes are super sensitive to light and they itch but you can't scratch! So get to a bed to sleep as quickly as possible. When I woke up later that same day, all the discomfort and fuzziness went away and I was amazed at how quickly the recovery was. Several months have passed since I had the procedure and I can proudly say it was one of the best decisions. I went from having -8 prescription (legally blind) to 20/20. I had a great experience with my lasik procedure. I felt that the consultation was thorough and made me comfortable enough to go ahead. I was very nervous the day of procedure but Dr. Mandel and Gabrielle helped calm me down, I was wrapped up with blankets with a teddy bear right before and before I knew it, it was already over. It was surprisingly fast and painless. My eyes felt a bit sandy for the first few days but it got much better by the next week and gradually over the course of the next month, any dryness or night blurriness had subsided. I am very happy with my decision and wish I had done it sooner. It's been about a year and my eyes are better than 20/20 (I was about 650 nearsighted before). So long to the days when I had to lug my contact solution around and worry about them drying out.

I've never written a review until today because you all HAVE to know about Mandel Vision and Dr. Mandel! I had my Lasik surgery on 3/7/2016 and trust me when I say that the reviews below are all very accurate. The whole process begins with a consultation where they run a bunch of tests on you to make sure you're a candidate. Turns out I was a candidate for either Lasik or PRK; I chose Lasik. Almost three months later, it was D-Day. I went in for my procedure and they ran the same tests on me that they did during the consult to insure they had accurate information. About an hour after all of this it was time for my surgery. Gabrielle took me to the room and immediately upon seeing the chair I was supposed to lie down on, I began to have a mini anxiety attack. While numbing my eyes, Gabrielle walked me through the procedure and tried to comfort me. She handled my a red stuffed bear to which I clung on to with every fiber of my being. If there is a new stuffed animal when you go, know it's because i ruined the other one. Dr. Mandel came in the room and we were ready to go. He moves very quickly, precisely and efficiently. During the part when the suction machine is actually making the flap, your vision will go completely black. DO NOT PANIC this is supposed to happen. I, of course, was panicking. Dr. Mandel helped during this by coaching me in a calming voice, "breathe in, breathe out." He said these words about 4/5 times and then it was time for the laser. 2 clicks and then you're supposed to look at this orange/yellow blinking light. When it's time, Gabrielle will say, "Ok 30 seconds." You'll hear clicking and then you'll smell something that smells like burnt hair. THE SMELL IS NOT COMING FROM YOUR EYEBALLS. It's the smell of the laser gas. The whole procedure lasts about 10 minutes. The anxiety is worse than anything you'll feel, hear or smell during the surgery. Dr. Mandel helped me sit up and told me to open my eyes. My response, "No thanks. I'm good." After a few more seconds of this nonsense, I reluctantly opened my eyes, and I COULD SEE HIM! I was so overwhelmed with emotion (happiness, terror, joy, anxiety) that I started bawling. Awkward, right? He led me to the other room and told me to look out the window. I could see everything, slightly blurry, but still! I gathered my belongings, Tylenol PM & eyedrops and got in a cab. **Word of advice, take the sleeping pills BEFORE you leave the doctor's office.** I didn't. By the time I was about 10 minutes away from my apartment the numbing drops had faded and the pain was hitting me like a brick wall. I took the pills and got in bed, but the pain from the surgery wasn't letting me fall asleep. Every time you open your eyes during this time water just gushes from them. You're going to want to keep them closed. After about 3 hours of tossing around, I fell asleep for about 2-3 hours. Waking up felt drastically different than the pain from before I feel asleep. The next morning I woke up and it was a brand new day! I haven't been able to wake up and see since I was 11! I went in for my day after follow up and everything checked out. The doctor had put in a contact lens "bandaid" in my left eye after surgery because it was slightly irritated. After more numbing drops in my left eye, Dr. Mandel removed the lens and checked everything one more time. I should also say that after they checked my vision, I'm now at 20/15! Me and my bionic eyes are very happy. Red, bloodshot and itchy but happy. Things you should know: Yes, your eyes are going to look scary, almost demon-like. Eyedrops are heaven sent. You'll want to scratch your itchy eyes but don't. No eye make up for a week (sweet!). I can only describe the "pain" as when your contact has a rip in it and it's annoying and stingy, but nothing detrimental.

Hard to explain how happy I am. I had lasik surgery on Monday. I just drove around my block, I had to. I'll be 50 in February, this is the first time in my entire life I have been able to drive (and find my car) without glasses or contacts in my entire life. I feel free.
