The guys at Hour Glass Optical are amazing. I was visiting from Australia and wanted mirrored prescription lenses for my Oakley frames. Not a problem and with my high prescription I got super thin lenses back. However my fault entirely, I had given the guys the wrong prescription. I’d been given a reader prescription from my Aussie optometrist without knowing and the guys didn’t know that, I just said here’s the prescription! They were amazing and had a new set of lenses made free of charge, so kind. Because of the special mirrored coating, I had to get my friend to mail them to me as they arrived just as I was heading home. The sunnies arrived today and they are perfect! Thank you so much Hour Glass Optical for your help with this. You’re the nicest bunch of people I’ve ever met in a store. To anyone who needs glasses or sunnies, go see these guys. You won’t be disappointed.

I was having so many issues finding glasses, and after seeing the reviews - I decided to check this place out! I walked in and within seconds, Veronica was pulling out different frames for me to try. Then when I decided on one - they said it would be ready in 20 minutes! WOW! I seriously didn't expect to get new glasses today... even have them when I got back in the car! Kathy is awesome. She's been there for 43 years and her experience shows. She made sure my glasses fit perfectly on my face before she let me leave. I loved it here and wouldn't go anyplace else from now on.

I live very close by and saw that they had good reviews so I came in because I needed some new eyeglasses. In the reviews that I read, they mention that they were very dog friendly and encourage customers to bring their dogs by. I did just that and brought my dogs over and purchased three pairs of glasses that were ready within 24 hours. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, I’m very very happy with my glasses and with the whole experience. I’ll definitely be coming by to visit and say hi, and I’ll be bringing my dogs too! This place is incredible! They actually will get you exactly what you need (was upsold on high index for years, and they cut me a lens of polycarbonate to show me that I wouldn’t need it), and are happy to cut lenses for your existing frames. I was able to get lenses for 3 frames updated in an hour for an extremely reasonable price. Very much looking forward to coming back here - no need to take a chance on online retailers with the Disneyland of glasses in LA!

Wonderful experience! I can’t say enough great things about this place. I was searching for a pair of prescription basketball frames (goggles) for our 5 year old son. I was visiting in town from Texas and lost my glasses on Thursday, while my flight back was on Saturday morning (I cannot see without my glasses at all). I called every place possible and everyone said it’ll take either weeks or at best 24 hours to make a pair with my prescription. It finally happened: I needed glasses, although mostly to track the ball better since I picked up playing tennis again recently. A friend referred me to Hourglass Optical so I headed over there to get pair of glasses with transition lenses. I could not be happier and pleased with the service or the eyeglasses. Kathy and Veronica are awesome. As a guy, I would have spent hours trying to figure out the right pair of frames but they picked out a few and ultimately picked out a pair that I am thrilled with. So beyond their expertise, the Hourglass Optical staff also have a great sense of style. I will not go anywhere else for that reason alone but they get a “10” for expertise, technical service (filling prescriptions for eyeglasses), and more (read on below). Unlike most optical places, they have highly-trained technicians in the store, which means you can get EXTREMELY FAST service (depending on your needs of course- I had specific transition lenses that required a little more time, but someone else was waiting while Veronica filled the prescription for the lenses so the team here really does work fast. Also, because they have technicians in their store, they can create custom prescription, transition, and progressive lenses for nearly any frame out there. If you have a favorite frame but need new lenses, Hourglass Optical is the place to go.

A most perfect service. Having gone to several optical big names, I came across Hour Glass online and decided to give it a try, boy, it was a perfect decision. Not only is their prices reasonable compared to others, their service is equally awesome. Others gave me a 2/3weeks wait before the glasses would be ready but it took Hour Glass lest than 3 days to do it. I had gone there with a frame that had a demo lens I considered too big, Hour Glass fixed it by doing some modifications as I wanted. My glasses came out pretty good. The workers are very friendly. I also wanted to get a price on getting the lenses replaced in an older pair of glasses I had that I still loved the frames. In this era of mask wearing, I have had a problem with the ear band of the mask catching on and detaching the bow of my Berlin frames. While I am sure the design helps prevent breakage (by simply detaching), I apparently am not adept enough to reattach them without being able to wear my glasses to see what I am doing. Anyway, I walked in to Hour Glass Optical today (Saturday) because my optometrist’s office is closed on Saturday. Within less than a minute, I was assisted by a wonderful lady who, with the help of their optician, reattached the bow and sent me on my way. I loved this place! They have SO many options for glasses, and it has a really personal feel. The staff were very willing to answer my questions and help me pick out the right pair for me. I got a really good deal on glasses, and they sent in the refund request to my insurance since I was out of network. I've seen a few reviews on here saying that people had their glasses done in 30 minutes. The day I was there they were pretty busy and it took them maybe 3 hours to finish my glasses, but they told me that from the beginning. They'll get you your glasses the same day (as long as you don't have a super difficult prescription), but maybe don't go in expecting it to be done in 30 minutes. Anyway, you'll love this place.

Haven't bought new frames/lenses in years; maybe a decade. In fact, for myself, I still haven't. We came in for my wife and had a plethora of styles to choose from. The wife has an eye for nice things and chose a set of frames that was more expensive than we had wanted- the guy working there (sorry never got his name) did not hesitate to find cheaper but stylistically comparable frames. But alas, even I agreed the more expensive ones looked best. So that is what we bought. I had no idea lenses could be cut to order so quickly; once the frames were chosen, it took about 15 minutes for the frames to be ready. While we were waiting we chatted with the ladies behind the counter and they were friendly and noted that the price we were getting was phenomenal. Of course when I got home i fact-checked them and lo and behold, we got the frame AND lenses for less than the retail cost of the frame! how are you guys still in business?! not that I'm complaining! I'll be back some day for my own frames and will certainly not hesitate to recommend to friends in the future.

TL;DR- The ratings are not too good to be true. These women run the friendliest business I've been to in recent memory with quick service and low prices . I spent days dealing with other optometrists trying to get my custom lens and frames fixed. It was always one problem after another. I walked into this place and just 3 hours later they had my custom lens put in with absolutely no fuss. They even guaranteed that if my custom lens wasn't satisfactory after trying them out that I could come back and they would spend more time getting it just right.

Cathy, the owner of Hourglass, was so helpful from the moment I spoke to her on the phone, to coming into the shop and purchasing my rx glasses. She and her team had me in and out within an hour and all offered an incredibly fun energy. I couldn’t recommend them enough—you get a completely non-rushed, no pressure to purchase or go out of your budget experience and Cathy herself will give you honest opinions on what does and doesn’t look good. Love them and love this shop.

This was the most fun I’ve had shopping for glasses! I came here with a friend to find his glasses but I’ll be back soon for my own. There’s plenty of options to choose from with a good range in prices. The staff is AMAZING and if I could give them 6 stars I would. I needed some specialty glasses repaired, and after searching for eyeglass shops in Santa Monica, I came across this gem of a store. Checked lots of reviews - 22 out of 22 five-star reviews on Google? Seriously? Nothing but positives on Yelp? Is this possible in today's service-deficient world? Yes, yes and YES! I walked in (ample free parking in back - a treasure in Santa Monica!) and was greeted almost immediately by the warm, friendly staff and two adorable puppies, which is saying a lot, since I'm not really a dog person. They took my glasses, offered me a seat, and not five minutes later, I had my repaired glasses in hand, and they wouldn't even let me pay for the repair! I'm so thrilled to have found another outstanding small business in my fair city! Hour Glass is right up there with Joy Automotive, Bob's Market and Gilbert's El Indio as the best of the best in Santa Monica. Thanks SO much for a wonderful experience, Kathy! If you need glasses or a repair, don't go anywhere but Hour Glass - I sure won't!

Took a chance on this place and drove down the 405 from the valley. I wasn't disappointed! Had new lenses in two pair of glasses within an hour. The staff, especially Veronica, were super nice and helpful. They don't try to sell you stuff you don't need. Price was very reasonable. Note: There were dogs on site. I'm a dog lover so I was fine with it but be aware if you are allergic, there may be dogs.

Came here for the first time. Very nice down-to-earth unpretentious hard working people operate in this shop. Carlos was pleasant to work with, more knowledgeable about optical than at most shops, and the owner came out to chat and offered tons of candy and bottled water and an education on the difference between lenses. I got my lenses replaced in my computer glasses. Their price to replace my lenses with my new Rx was 130.00 less than quoted in writing at Lenscrafters and I did not tell Hour Glass that--I just asked them what their price was. This is how I would handle things if you have not been here before: Before you buy lenses or glasses anywhere else, I would just come here--they are very low pressure, have free parking in the back, and they have a TON of frames. See Carlos or one of the ladies. Get a price quote on your prescription and walk around the shop and try on frames if you need them, or ask for help picking out. They have a lab in the shop that operates M to F only and they can make glasses in 30 minutes or less if they have the Rx in stock. Then make a decision what you want to do. PS I am not a pet person, but they are very dog friendly here--people stop in with dogs and the owner told me that she has 4 dogs! Yikes!

I was waiting at another eyeglass outlet across town in South L.A. that was like a "cattle call". After waiting for half an hour, I decided to do a Google search for same day eyeglasses in L.A. To my pleasant surprise, I found this gem of a company! The drive took 30 minutes, but when we arrived, Veronica took care of us IMMEDIATELY! Not only that, but she gave us the same price that the other company offered--but with better lense material! I could just gush with amazing things to say about this place. I needed a new pair of glasses same day and walked into this store hoping to just grab whatever I could get. Little did I know I would spend the next 30 minutes trying on frame after frame, getting great and honest advice about my face shape and the right kind of frame for me. I gave a firm price range and they stuck to it like glue, pulling out dozens of frames that they knew I could afford and knew would look good. There was no pressure to spend outside my range, no pressure to buy at all. You can tell that the staff here know what they are doing and really care about providing quality service. I walked out an hour later with my favorite frames I've had to date. I dont expect to need a new pair of glasses for a long time after the wonderful frames I found today. But once I finally need a new pair, I will definitely be coming back here.

All I had to do was go down street and eat, and they were finished when I got back. Coolest part is the customer service though! I bought a pair of vintage frames and wanted to put in sunglass lenses. I don’t have a prescription and just wanted good quality polarized lenses installed. I first took the frames to two other optical shops in Mar Vista and Culver City and was quoted two incredibly expensive prices (one of which was a laughable rip-off). I decided to make the drive over to Hour Glass Optical to get a third price since the first two quotes were high but differed greatly. I was happy I tried them because the price was much better and in the ballpark of my expectation. I was quickly served, and given my choice of lens colors. They also offered to adjust the frames a bit to fit my head better as well. The sunglasses came out nice, and finished in 20 minutes. I definitely recommend Hour Glass if you’re in need of lenses, adjustments, or repairs.

I desperately needed to fix the titanium frame on my glasses, the cute friendly receptionist told me they would have to send them out to get properly fixed because of the composite. Instead, she hooked me up with a Ralph Lauren frame which is a better brand than the one prescribed by my eye doctor and had the gentleman who affixes frames to lenses shave down the lens to fit the frame . She also worked with me on the price. The whole process took about 40 minutes and considering the frame brand and convenience, well worth the price.

Look no further for a place to get frames, new lenses, all things optical. Seriously. You can just stop now. I found this place through a competing review service (rhymes with "Help") a few years back, and decided to give them a shot. They turned out to be everything that one could want -- and so rarely finds -- in a retail store today. Great selection, competitive prices, excellent service, high quality, friendly staff, and dogs. Small dogs, sweet dogs, the kind that will be happy to accept attention but don't demand it. How cool is that? In the intervening several years, I've had lenses transferred from broken frames to new ones, bought new frames, upgraded lenses in existing frames, pretty much everything you might ask an optical store to do, and I am continually impressed by their thoroughness and their promptness. On top of that, their prices are outstanding. Plus, they're friendly, and I've never known anyone there to engage in arm-twisting upselling. Sure, they're going to show you stuff if you ask -- it IS a retail business, after all -- but they are thankfully free of the relentless attempts to force an upgrade that I have encountered elsewhere. It's got a great vibe, it's chill, they'll offer you a bottled water (from the fridge or room temp, your call), and they have a free candy jar on the counter. Don't mean to get on a soapbox here, but in the squeeze-every-last-penny-out-of-the-customer retail environment that seems to be the current norm, it is absolutely refreshing to walk into a place that prides itself on customer satisfaction in practice, rather than just in a mission statement. I'm happy to drive from Inglewood to West LA to have my glasses fixed, bought, or modified here. Kathy and her staff deliver a level of quality, service, value, and atmosphere that are absolutely worthy of your business and trust.

When I took them back the next day (with the correct prescription), they redid my glasses and didn’t charge me anything. And they mean it, as my standard poodle would be the first to agree after downing treat after treat, chased by a bowl of fresh cold water, handheld under her chin. The people who run the operation have mastered the nearly impossible feat of balancing a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with a professional ambience that is the hallmark of people who not only enjoy what they do, but the clients they do it for. Rather than encountering a "hard sell" approach, the customers are treated with care and patience, as each searches through the vast variety of frames until the perfect pair is deemed as such. I found the entire experience both pleasurable and productive, and took longer there than necessary simply because I- and my dog- were loath to take the "just right" new specs I purchased and leave the premises. A year ago or so, Hour Glass Optical came to the rescue when Warby Parker discontinued a pair of sunglasses I purchased - which meant I couldn't convert the frames to prescription lenses via WP. Hour Glass Optical turned around the glasses in less than a day - with the perfect matching gradient lens and my prescription! I brought in the same pair tonight to have the prescription lenses swapped out for non-prescription lenses as I'm wearing contacts now and would get more use from non-prescription sunglasses. They completed the change-out onsite in less than 20 minutes - complete with perfect gradient lens again! The staff is so friendly and the cute store dogs are so wonderful. I highly recommend Hour Glass Optical - plus there's a free parking in the lot right behind the store making this place a rare gem in West LA!

Where do I begin? I was in a bind to get new glasses for a new prescription within 4 days. We happened to call and connected with Carlos who went over the top to help my father. Over the top and exceptional customer service. He felt like family. I had a great experience at this shop! I went in to get some sunglasses adjusted to fit my face better, and they couldn't have been more helpful. They adjusted both pairs of my glasses, taking time to make sure they really fit my face, and didn't even charge me. I would go again!

Such a happy surprise! There were more options than I could ever imagine, super gorgeous high end glasses (salt, Oliver peoples, Tom Ford, versace, dolce) and the ladies were very helpful. Got my glasses in under an hour— most of the time was me deciding which ones to get! They also took the time to tweak my glasses so they fit me perfectly!

Hour Glass Optical firmly rates 5 stars for service, speed, quality and excellent value. I had stopped by during my lunch break and had Rx lenses created in literally 20 minutes while I waited. The gentleman in the lab part of the store is a true craftsman - the strength of my single vision lens turned out perfect and was expertly fitted to a pair of new half-frame Prada's. Also, a few weeks later I had snapped the bottom clear wires that kept each of the lenses in place; Hour Glass Optical fixed them at no cost in such a brief amount of time I almost wasn't ready to leave their personable yet professional hospitality...and the icing on the cake they are pet friendly and provided fat-free (my dog is on a diet) chicken jerkey for my beagle who was made to feel right at home during that particular visit. I was traveling over the Christmas holiday and lost the nosepad of my Silhouette eyeglasses. Hour Glass Optical was open! As soon as I arrived, the salesperson offered her assistance and my glasses were given to the optician who had them repaired within 15 minutes!
