My eye glass was broken into pieces in the morning. I looked for all three eye glass shops in Hyde park but they all said there was no way to repair that. Actually all the components were intact but the design made it too hard to assemble these together. Hopelessly I entered the last one on the map and expected the same answer from them. However,after 10 minutes the practice manager Don Spengel came back with my renewed glass, and I was wild with joy seeing this. Thanks for their repairing which saved me at least 400 dollars and a huge amount of time of eye examination. I am a UChicago student and now it’s approaching mid-term, so they also somehow saved my mid term and might save a disaster of my GPA. Thanks for your high skills and nice service!!!!!!!!!

Sherice Williams is such a gem. It feels like she's worked with Village Eyecare in Hyde Park for 15+ years and she's been present every time I've had an appointment. She's honestly the reason I still go to this location as I've moved pretty far (New York), but I make sure I schedule an appointment when I am back in town. It's always great to communicate with a worker who has a great character and exudes joy, intellect, respect and passion. The customer service is double stand. When I was there to make glasses, they were extremely friendly and customer care was superb. However, when I went there back to collect my glasses it was a different atmosphere/ less welcoming. Definitely, I hope they can improve on this! Other than that Dr. Ashley Zimmerman was pretty good and knows well with what she was doing. Thanks, and have a blessed returning after Covid19.

I have gone to this office for 2 years now and I always have a smooth time. The doctor is very helpful and won't over prescribe and instead tries to have the weakest possible to prevent future eyesight problems. Additionally, the staff that works there is very helpful and friendly. I got a fashionable pair of eye glasses there and it was affordable and quick. Sometimes the wait is a bit long to get in and out of the office about 1.5 hours on average and the contacts usually take a long time to get delivered, but otherwise a great office!

I am absolutely in LOVE with this eye care facility!! From the time you walk in you are greeted warmly by the reception team, offered refreshments as you fill out your paperwork. They are prompt and pro-active as they pulled all of my insurance information the day prior to my visit. I only waited in the waiting area no less than 10 minutes and no less than 3-4 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The optometrist Dr. Zimmerman is fun, very knowledgeable and gave me some great information and tips when wearing my contact lenses. The staff there is A1 and I am so excited that they are now my new and permanent eye care provider and source!

I went to this eye doctor for my first eye exam in some time about a month ago. I'm originally from out of state and wanted to find a trusted eye doctor. I needed to update my prescription for glasses and contacts and called ahead to make sure my insurance (newly covered under a parent) would cover a contact and general exam. When I went in to get my exam done I was told halfway through the visit that the contact exam wasn't covered. So I didn't proceed with the rest of the contact exam and took my prescription. I called my insurance provider and they were able to inform me that it should be covered and that they would have to order the appropriate contacts to fit me. So I was very upset that they had sent me away without the contact exam but even more upset because more than one employee implied that their lack of understanding of my coverage was because my "insurance wasn't that great". I called back after getting the info from my insurance provider and went back to complete the exam because I had to finish care with them. But if I hadn't spoken up they would have denied me services that I was owed just because they didn't want to take the time to order the contacts I needed. While also implying that my insurance was less than which is highly unprofessional. I was able to order my contacts and get a prescription. However I likely won't be returning due to the language they used shaming me for a parent's insurance plan. With that being my first visit I can only imagine that is how they treat their clients in general. Shaming people for attempting to take care of their health is the last way you keep clients especially if it was due to ignorance on your part. The doctor was generally pleasant and certain staff were helpful after the fact but the staff could definitely benefit from some sensitivity training.

I needed my yearly vision exam and I had walked past Village EyeCare a number of times. So, I decided to try it out. It was great because you could schedule an appointment online and submit your insurance information to insure acceptance. They were ready for me when I arrived and all the technology is up to date. When it was time to pick out new frames, the attendant walked around with me helping me to find the right frames for me. It was really great service. I would definitely tell anyone I know that needs a vision appointment to go there.

The only reason I will continue to patronize this center is because of the one constant that is Charrise. She is one of the best techs in the office. Update from Sept 2020: This place is still so great, and continues to impress me with the extent to which they are willing to help sort out insurance. Appointments aren't rushed, staff members are all super friendly, and they are really good at communication about appointments, how long it will take to get contacts delivered, etc. I'm moving soon, and made sure to get my yearly appointment in at the Hyde Park location before leaving the neighborhood. Wouldn't have expected to have a favorite eye doctor's office, but here we are. Previous review from 2017: I've worn glasses since second grade and have needed a stronger prescription almost annually. This means I've been to quite a few different optometrists in different cities over the years. Village Eyecare really stands out, and has been fantastic to work with. This was my first visit to an optometrist since coming off my parents' insurance and I was debating whether I should go LensCrafters or Costco to get an exam. Someone from my department recommended Village Eyecare, and I was surprised to find out that an exam from them (glasses+contacts fitting for an astigmatism) cost roughly the same out of pocket as both LensCrafters and Costco. I called in for an appointment and ended up getting seen the same day due to a cancellation, so I'm not sure how long it typically takes to get an appointment for an exam. Admittedly, I know very little about optometry, but their technology for pre-exam tests seems really advanced. This was my first time getting my eye pressure tested with a hand-held machine, and I found it much less jarring than the stationary one most places have. All of the tests were explained to me in detail, and I didn't feel like I was being rushed through an assembly line like I had at other places I have been. My appointment was with Dr. Koutnik, who is extremely attentive and seems very passionate about her field. She spent over an hour with me trying various contact brands and length-of-use combinations and even stayed past closing to make sure all my questions were answered. She special ordered some trial lenses that she thought may work better with my (very strong) prescription, and I was fitted for them a week later when they arrived. They send out text notifications for upcoming appointments, which I like. In addition to the amount of effort they put in to making sure my needs were met, this is the first place I have ever been to that actively (and voluntarily!) helped me navigate insurance. Because they serve a lot of UChicago students and employees, they are familiar with the benefits of their specific insurance, and pointed out that one option would save me a lot if I signed up for it in the next enrollment period. In short, I'm glad I took a chance as I have found my eye care center for as long as I live in Chicago.

I visited Village Eyecare for the first time. The optometrist I saw, Dr. Heeyoon Kim, was knowledgable and professional. I felt like I could trust her and that she wasn't just trying to sell me products, but actually had my best interest in mind. I felt more neutral on the shop itself, but ended up ordering my glasses. Love is the right word. Yes, I love this place! I was a Illinois Eyecare patient, but when I changed insurance, I was informed Village Eyecare was in network. The Optometrist who serviced me graduated from Illinois Eyecare, so I was very comfortable with the exam procedure. Everyone was kind and helpful. I had a bit of trouble with my insurance, but it wasn't their fault. So, I had to pay out of pocket for the glasses-the exam was covered. I think that this will be resolved with an In-Network reimbursement. I hope!

Everyone here is very polite, professional, and welcoming. As soon as you walk in, someone greets you with a smile. The wait to be seen was not long at all. I was a little disappointed realizing that I had to have (and pay for) another eye exam and fitting for contacts, although I'd had an eye exam here about 5 months prior. But the doctor (whose name escapes me) was kind and thoughtful in explaining why that was the case. I will definitely return for my future eyecare needs and have no hesitation in recommending Village EyeCare- Hyde Park to others.

I've been to the South Loop and Hyde Park locations; I prefer the Hyde Park location more. The staff are very welcoming and appointment times are promptly honored with minimal waiting. The doctors are very informative and explain everything in detail. I ordered daily contacts at the Hyde Park location and they gave me a couple pairs to take me through the weekend until my order arrives. I'll be back in six months.

Best eye exam I've had in years! All staff members were pleasant and friendly from the moment I walked in. They pre-screen you before the doctor sees you to have a baseline to work from. They explained what each machine did when asked. The doctor took her time with the exam and didn't rush just to get you in and out and see more patients. The doctor also discussed the prescreen results. I guess there was a reason why I did not make appointments at other eye exam locations.

Dr. Stoev is excellent at optimizing the fit of gas-permeable contacts. Get contacts with a return policy and she'll make adjustment after adjustment until the fit is perfect. My contacts are sharper and more comfortable than than any fit I've had in the past 10 years.

I don't usually leave reviews online but I was so unbelievably impressed with this office I just have to. I made an appointment online (at least I thought I did) but it turns out it hadn't gone through. They fit me in anyway within 15 minutes of the appointment I had thought I'd scheduled (even though they were very busy) and were utterly gracious about it. From the ladies at the front desk to the doctor himself, I have never in my life felt more welcomed at a medical facility, and I was really listened to. I would even say I had fun! I got advice about medical conditions, realistic answers, and incredibly helpful tips that no other optometrist ever before offered. I walked out with better eyesight than I've had in over 15 years, and no matter where I move in Chicago, you can be sure I'll make the trek back to Hyde Park to see them every year.

I had an unexpected vision change this year - not only was she very thorough with the eye exam, but she ran extra tests to make sure my eyes were still healthy. If you're interested, Dr. Stoev is happy to explain the biology behind the different tests and procedure they use, which I appreciate.
