I went to South End Eye last night and I cannot say enough good things about my experience. The customer service was perfection, with the right amount of attention, guidance, information, but never feeling pushy or like I had any pressure to make a decision or buy. The glasses selection was amazing and I found so many pairs that I loved (very unique collection without). I legitimately had so much fun and left the store happier than when I went in. I had shopped a few other place before this, and my recommendation is to start here, you will not regret it!

Quick & easy ability to secure an appointment. Doctor explained every procedure, asked questions to gain understanding of my concerns. She was genuinely interested in my eye health as well as ensuring my vision was adjusted to remedy my concerns. This is a top notch provider of vision care. The optometrists are very knowledgeable and take the time to listen to patients, answering questions and addressing any concerns. The opticians are skillful and friendly, always ready to help. The shop is small enough to provide personal service, but they have the latest technology to make an eye exam comfortable and convenient while providing of clinical information inform the doctors. The selection of frames is amazing, and the opticians know just how to help you find exactly the right frame for you.

Dr. Martin is amazing. She legitimately cares about her patients. She keeps track of little details such as my occupation and preferred contact brand, which make visits so pleasant. I've been going to South End Eye for about 3-4 years and my yearly appointment recently. Honestly, night and day compared to my previous optometrists. My old place gave me contacts that didn't fit to my eye well and the people there didn't even care that they were difficult to put in. Here at South End Eye they knew exactly what was wrong, said that it was a very common problem with this certain brand of contacts, and provided amazing customer service to try and find the right brand. Definitely recommend.

I have been wearing glasses/contacts since I was in 8th grade (20 years ago!) and I have never had such a complete eye exam, and in a very comfortable neighborhood office setting with a clear sense of care and pride in all the staff's work. Great service, thoroughly modern top-of-the-line equipment housed in a charming brownstone. Everyone was great, knowledgeable, and gave options so I never felt pressured to take an extra test or update glasses lens like I have with other eye care businesses. Covid protocol was easy AND all ‘paperwork’ is filled out ahead of time on an app. And, this is my quirk,, they did NOT knock or complain about the work my previous provider did; indeed they complimented the optician on my tricky frame fit. I hate when providers - stylists, dentists, doctors, etc - bash on previous providers in a purely negative way instead of just being honest that the work wasn’t up to their standards. I think it speaks volumes how this can be handled and South End Eye was lovely in this regard.

I searched around online last week due to severe blurry vision. I knew all appointments due to COVID-19 were hard to come by. South End Eye gave me a 1pm appointment due to a cancellation and the service was great. I was worried about my eyes due to family history of diabetes and the OD was patient and attentive to my needs. I had a great eye exam with no serious issues and my RX was so far off I purchased a pair of glasses from them. Can't wait for them to arrive. They were able to use my Davis Vision insurance and Eye Med but do not sell Davis Vision glasses which was fine. You can still use your FSA if you choose or take your RX to a Davis Vision provider. I highly recommend this place due to great customer service, clean environment, and social distancing measures. I will definitely go again.

If you live in the South End then I hope you have the opportunity to get your eye exams at SEE. I originally found them online when searching for an new eye doctor after moving to Boston and I like them so much that I sometimes go in just to try on glasses for fun and pet the dog. For a tiny, uncluttered storefront they manage to have a lot of options for frames. Everyone is very friendly and informative. There is help available anytime I need but they also create an environment that makes me feel comfortable spending time on my own to try on as many frames as I want. My annual eye exams always seem thorough and I can tell they review my history because they sometimes ask question about things I've had concerns with in the past. It is a reassuring when your doctors are paying attention to the details. Much appreciated!

Also, not too long ago that little nose piece fell off one of my older pair of glasses. Fantastic, as always! Mary & Michelle are the 2 nicest people I've met in any retail setting. They are very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful, but also happy to let you browse interrupted. The selection of designer and high-end frames is impressive; however choices are plentiful. [The decor is fantastic, as is the exam space downstairs; don't be intimidated - it feels like a cozy apartment when you walk in!] Frankly my favorite part of going to SEE is that they find me great glasses and make me feel special wearing them! They do this by listening first and then, as appropriate, start offering up opinions and options. Their no-nonsense, headache-preventing explanations of the insurance systems is a welcome bonus. Despite stocking newer brands and mostly higher end glasses, they both 1) never give up on timeless styles and reliable manufacturers, and 2) don't ever sell any crap -- even the lower priced glasses are great. Their honesty about sourcing, pricing, and alternatives allows you to make this a one-stop [comfortable] shop. Dr. Laura is great! She's very personable, smart, and she listens. Her exams are very chill and completely pain-free. I especially enjoy how she explains what she's doing (if you'd like).

My retina specialist left her practice , so I booked an appointment with a new specialist at Mass Eye and Ear. Covid interrupted that appointment. When my husband made an appointment to upgrade his prescription, I asked if South End Eye could do the required investigation of my retina which has been affected by macular degeneration. The doctor was clear that they could do the check up but would have to send me to a specialist if more treatments were required. Both my husband and I were impressed with the time spent and the care that was taken about safety. I had a very thorough explanation of the state of each eye, which was reassuring. South End Eye is also extremely convenient, so I hope that fine local services like this will continue.

I would recommend South End Eye for eye exams, contacts and a great selection of frames. They custom make frames to fit your face! I have had a great experience with learning to use contact lenses. Dr Laura is professional and patient. I did not have an easy time getting used to the contacts, she was very helpful with tips and a few follow up visits. I have also been impressed with the quick turn around in replacing the lenses in some older almost vintage sunglasses.

Terrific eye exam. I was able to schedule it easily online and they took me right on time. The people were very professional and friendly, and explained the results very clearly. They offer a “high tech” alternative to having your eyes dilated, which is fabulous in being essentially non-invasive and you can go about your day immediately after you finish.

My eye history is pretty complicated, so I'm always a bit nervous about going to a new optometrist. However, the service I received at my first appointment at South End Eye was far beyond what I expected. I went in to have a regular eye exam and to order glasses that replace my RGPs+glasses that I wear now, so that I have options other than wearing contacts all the time. Marisol ran all of my tests quickly and confidently, despite the fact that my eyes both have nystagmus and shake on their own, which has made it difficult for technicians to get test results in the past. The optometrist, Amanda, was very professional and discussed with me the results of my tests, which was great. I especially enjoyed seeing the composite image of the inside of my eye, which was so detailed that it showed floaters. Some of my doctors in the past have been secretive about what's going on with me and don't share info, even when I ask, and even when it's good news. But that wasn't the case here - I learned a lot by checking out my test results. The staff at the desk was also very professional and considerate, as was the woman who fitted me for my glasses (I'm sorry I can't remember their names...). Best of all, the glasses I ordered are giving me the best vision I've ever had in both of my eyes. I can't wait to pick them up and am really thankful that I found South End Eye. The Google reviews are no joke - they really are that good.

I am new to needing more than an occasional set of "readers"-- my first stops were a huge opthalmic center - Basically a factory. Then I went to a discount place for glasses (sticker shock as a new prescription eye glass wearer) then I could not figure out how to use my glasses - went to South End Eye. Dr Martin re- jiggered my prescription; I learned progressive lenses have to fit properly And then they guided me through a purchase of very flattering glasses. 12 months later I am ably wearing contacts for sports after careful, patient coaching. What a great place.

Incredible. I was in Boston for work and forgot extra contacts at home. I called them and they immediately told me they would help me. I stopped by and quickly had a few days worth of contacts in order to survive my trip. Surprisingly, they didn't charge me anything. I offered to but they declined saying, "this is what we do. We help people and we are happy we were able to be help you." Still astounded at how great the service was.
