Excellent service and care! Dr. Brown took great care to listen to my needs, was thorough in normalizing and explaining the entire examination process and recommendations, and took the time to provide all care options that best suited to my needs. Even though she was not my treating doctor, Dr. Drean demonstrated great interest and involvement in ensuring quality of services just from simply making her presence and support known to patients and staff during my visits. The technician, Lille, did an excellent job normalizing and explaining all pre-appointment evaluation and eyeglass fitting, which made what can be an uncomfortable and tedious experience easier and convenient. Although I initially had some concerns about two staff members’ conduct in protecting patient private health information when loudly discussing a patient while I waited for my initial appointment, these two staff members are NO LONGER with the clinic since returning for subsequent care. I believe this demonstrates Dr. Drean’s and her team’s constant striving to uphold nothing but the highest standard of service not just in the service they provide, but the professionals that make up their team. Since then, the front staff have been prompt, courteous, and discrete in making sure I (and other patients) were checked-in or tended to. Highly recommend for all of your eye-care health needs!

*Update. We decided to give the office another try after a previous bad experience. The office staff and doctor Brown were great. I do feel like there is some overpriceing going on but that is expected in this day and age...* My doctor merged with this practice and every time I contact the office it is a hassle and the customer service is seriously lacking. The first time I ordered my daughters contacts it took a week to verify our insurance. The second time the contacts never arrived and after multiple calls where no one had any information it was discovered the order was never placed. Now I have requested her prescription so I can order them elsewhere. I have made 3 calls and was not able to speak to anyone. I left voicmails with my information only to receive a message from the office that I need to call them back. I anticipate having to leave another message. I am definitely finding another provider for my family. Very disappointing.

Gem State Eyeware is one of the best places to get your eyes checked and get glasses. I had been going to another business, but since I have diabetes my doctor recommended Gem State. I am glad he did. Their testing machines are up to date and the staff is very nice and patient

Today was my first visit in here, on referral from my wonderful girlfriend. Everyone was incredibly friendly and professional, but not afraid to joke or relax. Everything was very streamlined and quick. As a new patient I was in and out in under an hour with the exam and picking out frames. My lady has also told me several times how much she really enjoys their service and they've helped her out in vision emergencies. Very highly recommended!

I have visited numerous different eye care places but no one compared to gem state, i felt very welcomed and they truly cared about my needs. I am not a fan of doctors! My family physician referred me to Gem State, I am on Medicaid and finding an Optometrist that took my insurance was hard. Having special needs, and anxiety, Dr. Holman is very patient, as I need someone with patients. I love the communication With text messages, updates on my appointments, reminders, Or general questions. Dr. Holman never pressured me to purchase my glasses from her. She understands my financial situation. I am currently seeing her, she referred me to a top notch cataract Doctor. I will have all my follow up appointments with her instead of having a new eye doctor. Thank you to Dr. Holman and her staff. This is the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, they came to my car, took my temperature, they wore masks and there was a huge jug of hand sanitizer for you to use. The office was very clean, I didn’t have to worry about contracting any illness.

I LOVE that Gem State Family Eyecare sends out appointment reminders so far in advance! I already received a postcard reminding me about my appointment in November. There is nothing worse than getting a call the day before an appointment I scheduled a YEAR ago. Life is messy--I probably lost the planner I wrote that down in. It is such a small thing (and of course this review reflects the excellent care I receive there, as well) but sometime it IS the little things that make the biggest difference.

I was concerned about driving after having my eyes dilated, and Dr. Holman recommended an Optomap Retinal Exam as an alternative. It was so quick & easy! I have been a patient at Gem State Family Eyecare for several years now, and they consistently meet, if not exceed, my expectations and provide great service in the following ways: The staff is very friendly and quick to respond to questions, and are aware of ways in which they can get you discounts both with the office and with various eyecare providers (i/e rebates, etc.). Generally there is always a short wait time for appointments and when you actually get to the office. Their hours always work with my 9-5 job which is great. I scheduled an off-the-cuff appointment because of an ocular migraine (that I didn’t yet know was an ocular migraine) and was able to get in the next day, and instead of dilating my pupils, Dr. Holman was able to simply take photographs so I could return to work right after. I also had a payment that never arrived in the mail to them (thanks USPS…) and they didn’t hound me, instead letting me pay it the next time I was scheduled to come in a few weeks later. It’s nice they trust me as a patient. When providing care, Dr. Holman is approachable, patient, personable and brings a sense of kind humor. She explains options clearly, and makes herself open to questions without being judgmental or glossing over things. It’s always nice to visit her. After contact fittings, she’s able to provide samples before you place your order to make sure they’re comfortable for you and can help you make tweaks if need be. I haven’t had to make tweaks or realize later “oh no that has been wrong for a long time” because she is spot on. She is aware of what’s different since your last visit both for you as a patient and in the industry. That’s always great to have in a doctor. They have a good eyeglass selection and can explain the different types of lenses, and help you understand what you will pay for based on your insurance. I ran a variety of scenarios and they happily provided me with all the different pricing. Their contact lens pricing is competitive (and actually far cheaper) than anything I’ve found online. Eyeglasses might be a little more expensive but I think online sites are misleading, because its $99 for a pair of frames if you want zero add-ons with the lens, like reflective coating, UV protection, etc. which for me is probably the most important thing after “the glasses help me see”. Plus they make a guarantee about replacing lenses, which you might not get online. They also offer in-store discounts for lenses. I walked away from my appointment very happy and can’t wait for my glasses to get in!

Several years ago, when I was looking for an optometrist here in Boise, I chose ClearView Family Eyecare based solely on their proximity to my home. I have stayed with them ever since and always recommend them highly to all my friends and family. The doctors are friendly, personable, and knowledgeable (they always greet me like a friend and remember the things we talk about, whether medical or not). I haven't had such a regularly enjoyable experience at any other family doctor (regardless of specialty) and my eyes are always in good health thanks to their administrations. Not only are the doctors themselves wonderful, the facilities and equipment are also impressive: clean, welcoming, and organized with advanced technologies I had never seen used at any of my previous optometrists. I highly recommend this practice to anyone in need of eye-care in the Boise area.

I found ClearView Family Eyecare several years ago through internet reviews. It is past time for me to add my own. Everything promised on their website is reality. Friendly, professional, high quality care, unrushed visits, timely visits, all questions addressed thoroughly. I could go on and on. I have been to many optometrists in many states and can attest to ClearView being far and above the best in all categories. I'd like to add that the vision in one of my eyes was saved by the careful attention I received. Dr. Ku was concerned about some changes in my eye and referred me immediately to a retina specialist. It turned out I have a rare anomaly in that eye. Dr. Ku had been carefully tracking the anomaly and referred me as soon as she saw changes. Without the prompt treatment I received I would have lost much if not all the vision in that eye. I will close by saying that I actually look forward to my visits because I know I'll receive the best care by a truly kind, attentive and exceptionally well-trained doctor. Do not hesitate to make your appointment at ClearView. It will be the best thing you ever do for your eye health.

This was a hard one to rate. The doctors are great but getting my contacts alhas been an absolute nightmare. Appointment was Oct. 5, paid for contacts and glasses Oct 6. Recieved glasses a couple weeks later. It is February 15th today and I still have not received contacts. Like what??? I've been wearing contacts since I was 18...never had to wait more than a couple weeks...let alone months.
