The surgery I had at The Eye Institute was a positive and comfortable. I had cataracts and the procedure was attended by a very friendly and professional staff. I have been to the facility before as was my wife who had the same procedure. We both would recommend considering the, for you eye care particularly if you live in Southern Utah. For cataract procedures they will do both eyes the same week and save the driving and overnight expense of 2 trips.

The whole experience was like no other. Wonderful. The doctor took all the time necessary to make me feel comfortable with the upcoming surgery. I also loved the eye boxes that I could get from the office and had all the medications, instructions and even dark glasses. I did not have to go to a pharmacy, got a better price and the right medications. I didn’t dream it could be so easy.

I've been taking both my kids to Dr. Carter for a couple of years now. Dr. Carter is amazing, extremely knowledgeable and so are the interns that help him. Scheduling always does their best on getting you an appointment right away. However, billing is another story... I've had a couple issues with them not keeping my insurance correct on file. I've had to give them my insurance information over and over again, how to get my policy number over the phone, I've given my card in person for them to take copies of but they still bill incorrect. Every time I give them in my information for my policy it's never kept on file.. I've called to correct this and the "gal" that answers the phone for billing got extremely defensive! It was poor service in my opinion. The attitude from her was not very pleasant! Billing seems very unorganized. Other than that it's a great office! We'll continue to come for Dr. Carter.

Staff is courteous, professional, kind and thorough. I was treated well by all, especially Allison who did my initial eye exam. I actually enjoyed my time there. Left with appointments for upcoming cataract surgeries. I highly recommend The Eye Institute of Utah. Received the royal treatment at my surgery from the staff, nurses, doctors and surgeon Dr Passi. All went well and fairly quickly. I can see without glasses! The next morning I woke up without needing to search for my glasses for the first time since I was 8. Looking forward to the next surgery for the other eye.

It is now, Saturday, and though my vision has improved from nothing, it is still hazy. I was scheduled to have the left eye done this coming Tuesday and I have canceled that appointment until I have good vision in my right eye.

I needed to renew my drivers license before 2-5-23 and needed an eye test for the renewal. I made the appointment for 1-11-23 to have this done. I arrived 20 minutes early, checked in and took a seat. Within 5 minutes, I was taken back to an exam room where my eye evaluation was done. Everything went so smooth and I was finished and headed home at the time my appointment was scheduled to be. I want to thank Dr. Carter, Emma, and the nice ladies at the check in/reception desk for taking charge of my situation to my full satisfaction. The entire staff is awesome!!

What a difference from all other eye specialists I’ve seen! Professional and knowledgeable all the way! Every staff member from when I entered until I left was sincerely polite, caring and helpful. I didn’t wait long in the very clean and comfortable waiting room. All tests were quickly done right there. Dr Bretz explained my tests by showing me the scan and explaining what they meant and her suggested course of action. Seeing the scan was very important to me to really understand what was going on with my vision instead of someone just talking at me. I have glaucoma and defects from having RK incisions 30 years ago. So relieved to finally feel comfortable with my Dr and feel confident im in the right place.

The Doctors & entire staff treat me like a member of their family. I’ve been in so many times I was wondering when they were going to make me a board member. Today when I went in Dr. “Z” he called me a frequent flyer. Get your Shingles vaccination people & don’t procrastinate like I did . I got Shingles on my head, and they got into my eye and ate a hole in my Cornea which required a corneal transplant. Not only that the shingles left me with post herpetic nerve damage. You don’t want that! But if you do, be you sure to go to the The Eye Institute of Utah, where you’ll be in good hands!

My initial exam was great. Unfortunately when I asked about a new prescription for my glasses they told me it was 45 dlrs. This was never conveyed to me before my visit. I clearly told them upon making my appt that this is why I was coming to them. They asked me what insurance I had and still didn’t tell me that there was a fee. Very frustrating. Needless to say I will not be returning:(

I saw Dr. Bretz for a routine eye examination, my first visit to the Eye Institute of Utah. The staff greeted me immediately and was very knowledgeable about my insurance benefits. I had hardly taken a seat when I was called in for my eye exam, which included a number of tests I had not experienced with my previous opthalmologist. Dr. Bretz answered all my questions, explained things clearly, and offered suggestions and recommendations I had not previously received. She took all the time I needed to get my questions answered, and the entire staff was very professional and caring. I will definitely be returning to Dr. Bretz for care from now on.

On referal from family members I came in to see if I was a candidate for Lasik. I'm 67 and turned out Lasik wasn't for me. I did have the start of cataracts but wasn't experiencing reduced vision at night, halos or flashes of light yet. I was given an extremely thorough exam and it was decided to wait for a year and follow up. Eventually cataract surgery will be the direction I will go. I'm extremely pleased with the attention Dr. Wolsey and her staff gave me and feel secure in knowing they had my best interest in mind.

Dr Passi completed my PRK surgery at The Eye Institute of Utah this spring; I highly recommend them and will go back for my future vision care. The doctor was conservative with his assessment for me to do the surgery (so no pressure to do it), clear about recovery expectations/ risks, and over performed on the vision correction performance (goal was 20/20; I’m actually 20/15 now). I recently had a cataract removed and a corrective lens implanted by Dr. Zavodni at The Eye Institute of Utah and the procedure that was done by this facility was remarkable! Right from the beginning I was extremely impressed with the professionalism, courtesy, cleanliness, and efficiency with which this company operated. At the day of the procedure everything went perfectly and the actual procedure was by far better than I imagined. I don’t think I spent more than 3 minutes at any time waiting to be attended to and the actual surgery itself went very quickly and with little to almost no discomfort. I was able to walk out after the surgery and go down the street to a restaurant where I ordered from the menu without wearing glasses for the first time in over a decade, truly remarkable!

Dr. Wolsey performed my surgery and it was not difficult at all. I was initially more nervous getting my first eye done than for other surgeries I had in the past but there was no need to be nervous. Dr. Wolsey and the staff were very nice and caring and the procedure was not invasive. Also the wait time was much less than other doctor appointments I have gone to. What a difference. I can now drive when it is dark and the only time I need reading glasses is for fine print. I don't need glasses to work on a computer anymore and everything is much clearer.

From the first day, cataract evaluation, the entire staff was professional, friendly, prompt and patient. I felt very comfortable during the pre-op exams, the specialists and nurse anesthetist explained everything to me during the entire process. I was given options for medications for the surgery. Dr Z was cordial, had a great bedside manner and professional in all his communication during the surgery. The survey took about 17 minutes. I followed pre-op and post-op instructions to the letter. This place far exceeded all my expectations!! Went in on a Wednesday for a Lasik consult. Front desk staff was nice, waiting area was clean. Technician was informative and nice. After a few test, Dr Wolsey decided PRK was the better option for me. I had never heard of PRK and she answered all my questions and explained throughly. They understood my hesitation, and said they would retake my scans the day of surgery and If my eyes changed they would switch to Lasik. I went in to schedule my surgery with Stacie, who is sweet and super helpful, and she said they could get me in for surgery that Friday. Just TWO days after my consult which was amazing. Day of surgery they redid my scans, and Dr Wolsey explained that PRK was still the best option. By then I was confident in that option. As I was getting prepped for surgery, Dr Wolsey explained step by step what I should expect. She was professional yet personable. Making it feel like I was speaking to a doctor I had known and trusted for years. The surgery itself is painless and quick (10 minutes maybe?). After care instructions and information on medication is clear and easy to read. A 24/7 number for emergencies and a follow up appointment in a week. My follow up visit was short and sweet. I had no questions as they were great at communicating what I should expect post surgery. Also, they always have amazing deals. For the amount of things included in the price plus the quick service, it is SO worth it.

Dr. Z and staff were great. It’s only day two post op but my vision is great and pain free. I was forewarned of the postoperative pain, but I think I underestimated it. It was rough for me the first four hours, but I probably do have a lower pain tolerance than most. After discussing it with Dr. Z he informed me it was normal and would feel better by the evening and then how the magic starts the next day; and he was absolutely correct. I couldn’t be more satisfied with the procedure or the results. One year update: I went in for my 1 year checkup. My vision is 20/15 and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I had a hard time deciding between Hoopes and The Eye Institute, but ultimately chose the eye institute and was glad I did! The eye institute was more affordable and personable which ultimately had me choose them. I still liked Hoopes, I just felt like another number there. My review would not be 5 stars if it wasn't for Dr. Wolsey. She is amazing. She educates her patients, answers questions and helps patients make their own informed decisions. I would review more of a 2 or 3 if it wasn't for her. I originally was uneasy about going here because some of the assistants seemed unknowledgeable on the machines they were testing my eyes with. I felt much more comfortable after meeting with Dr. Wolsey and her answering my million questions. Due to the anatomy of my eye, the machine could not suction onto my eye until the 7th attempt. This was unnerving, but through it all Dr. Wolsey and the staff went to extra lengths to make sure I was comfortable and okay with proceeding. After surgery the eye that had issues was very sensitive to the antibiotic drops, but the doctors were available on-call and let me know that was normal for my situation. Besides that, recovery went well. My post op I knew my eyes weren't where I hoped they were but the doctor(can't remember his name) said I had 20/15 and closed the appt without addressing my concerns. The appt was very rushed and I knew I wasn't seeing as well as he claimed. Because of this, I rescheduled with Dr. Wolsey. Dr. Wolsey acknowledged I wasn't where I wanted to be with my vision and gave me all the options to fix things. We decided to re-treat my one eye that wasn't quite where it was supposed to be and in all the post ops she made sure I was 100% satisfied. She said the laser runs "hot" when treating astigmatism and so they slightly under treat strong astigmatism (like mine) so they don't end up over treating since they can't reverse the over treatment. I appreciate the conservative approach. Moral of the story: REQUEST DR. WOLSEY, SHE IS AWESOME! P.S. Most of the assistants are amazing as well. It was just my first visit that had me slightly nervous.

Having cataract surgery 3 years ago, my right eye was failing. The facility that did it refused to see me unless a balance due was paid first. All of the procedure was covered by insurance and after 3 years, I had no idea. During these hard economic times, I offered 70% but was refused. The Eye Institute was referred to me by a friend. Although my appointment was almost 2 months from the time of request, they called with an earlier appointment. My experience from paperwork to discharge was nothing short of amazing! The staff and medical professionals were so accommodating, so friendly and pleasant, that I felt I was with family instead of a facility. They usually are so fast at taking me back to a room for my appointment, that I sit in the waiting room and start watching FixerUpper and they call me back to the doctor's office so quickly that I don't get to watch much! The facility is immaculate, state of the art, spacious, well designed and comfortable. I had Lasik done a week ago by Dr Wolsey and I am loving the results! I was literally blind without glasses/contacts before the surgery and within 48 hours my eyes were 100% perfect! Faster results and recovery time than what I expected as well. Staci was also very friendly and helpful when it came to scheduling the appointment and getting me all the info I needed prior to the surgery. Dr Wolsey is amazing! She's a busy woman with lot of other patients, yet she had a way of making me feel special even in our short meetings. I can only imagine that she gives this same individual attention to all her patients. 3) The atmosphere at their facility is clean, quiet, and comfortable. They surpassed my expectations. I came out with 20/15 vision with only a hint of my former astigmatism. (For reference, I couldn't even really see the big "E" without glasses before my surgery.) Great post-op care. After a week or two, I didn't even feel the need for artificial tears to keep my eyes moisturized. I can see!

The surgeon, Dr Passi, was fantastic. The LASIK procedure was quick, painless, and everyone made me as comfortable as possible. There was however several things that weren’t properly communicated to me that I think could be improved… I was never initially told to schedule myself to allow for a 7-10 day post op appointment (I was almost out of town for this timeframe) and it was also not well communicated that after the procedure they would like to see me 2 hours later. I think they made an exception for me, and just had me wait 30 minutes, but with proper explanation, I would have preferred to have the proper 2 hour post op appt. Surgeon wasn’t sure how that was miscommunicated, but it def was, and so sounds like the staff needs to get on the same page about protocols.

My LASIK procedure went great, I've enjoyed 3 years of clearer vision, and now I'm ready for a touchup and I'm told that I needed to keep track of all the eye exams over the past 3 years. If I don't have the records (which I only received in paper form), they charge me even more, just like the IRS. They say it's so they can see why my vision is changing, but my vision didn't change until last year. I paid over $3k and now they want even MORE money, $500/eye. So dumb. I wish they had made this clear before I paid them 3k, I would have gone elsewhere.

I had my PRK surgery last Friday May 10th 2019 the first couple of days were rough especially Sunday everything was blurry. But starting Monday about 4 days after the surgery my vision began to really clear up. I feel like it’s improving daily as Doctor Z said it would. For the past 8 years or more, my eyesight was deteriorating and driving at night became a high risk adventure. My prescription glasses weren't working very well and during a visit to my optometrist I was informed that it would be difficult to do anything to improve my eyesight without having cataract surgery. He suggested Dr. Cionni at the Eye Institute of Utah. I waited 6 months to set up an appointment and wasted all that time with poor eyesight. When I finally made the appointment and went the the institute, I was immediately impressed by the staff and the number of devices they use to evaluate your eye health. Everyone was fantastic and well humored. First one eye with immediate results of clarity, beautiful colors I hadn't missed but now appreciated more and crisp text everywhere I looked. The second eye one week later and the correction of an astigmatism and a more pronounced cataract. At first the sight was very blurry but after two days it was clearer and continues to improve daily. I can't say enough about Dr. Cionni and his team. And the cost was very reasonable with Medicare. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting even one month. If you want to improve your eyesight and are wondering who to see, I can recommend Dr. Cionni and the Eye Institute with my highest recommendation.

Instead, I walked around squinting all the time and my vision got so bad I had no business driving! I was finally convinced by my coworkers to take the plunge and get my eyes fixed. I only wish I had the surgery performed sooner! I had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Zavondi at the Eye Institute of Utah a few years ago. I'd had serious myopia since early childhood, which was a hindrance to all my activities, including sports. I had trouble reading road signs even with corrective lenses. With the new lenses inserted by Dr. Zavondi, my vision is perfect. Dr. Z also took steps to significantly slow progression of glaucoma. I appreciate the followup appointments with him to ensure that my eyes remain healthy. The staff at the Eye Institute has always been friendly, competent and professional. Apparently my CareCredit prepayment (loan), of $3,650 was a little over 50 o/o of the total cost, that the hidden cost was over $2,880. Insurance that I should only pay copay covered almost all, but billing found these other charges not disclosed prior to surgery. Beware of hidden costs and fees. Negative stars for billing.

Deciding to get ICL surgery at 26 to correct my vision was not an easy decision. I had never had any type of surgery and I also have an inactive retinal disease. Dr. Zavodni assured me that refractive surgery was still possible for me. Five months later my vision is great and the surgery did not affect my retinal disease, just as Dr. Zavodni assured me would not happen. I was so nervous heading into my Lasik procedure I was wondering if I was making the right decision. Then when they started prepping me for surgery everything was so calm and professional. They gave me several different drops in the prepping process and sat me down for surgery. I was nervous to watch and be aware of each little thing being done, but I couldn't see exactly what was happening either so I didn't have to panic, it was 100% painless and the procedure took a max of 3 minutes (maybe less). Dr Wolsey was incredible and very courteous about my concerns. Recovery was fast and easy and now I can see 20/15. Just make sure to get the proper artificial tears afterward (the kind in the tiny daily use vials).

This review is long overdue - but Dr. Wolsey is top of the top! As a doc, she’s efficient and thorough. As a person, she has a cool vibe and is very down-to-earth. Love her style. I got LASIK 5 months ago and am still seeing perfectly! I was definitely nervous going into it (“it’s my vision, I don’t want to lose it!!”) - but I’m amazed at how smooth the process was. Basically I just had to lay there and let them do their thing. It was a trippy experience - I don’t do drugs, but if I did that seems like something I would’ve been seeing. Aside from the pressure, it was pretty painless (just felt like someone was pushing on my eyeball for several seconds... weird. But calmly breathing through that one helped). The worst part was just the hour or two after the surgery when my eyes gradually got more and more itchy/stingy - but the follow-up drops took care of that. Bottom line, it takes about a day to heal and then you’re good to go. If you’re considering LASIK, stop considering and just do it! It is SUCH a liberating gift being able to see clearly with no assistance! I can take naps in the day without extra steps? Fall asleep on the plane? Wake up and actually see where I am? I am 31 and have needed glasses/contacts since I was 10. I got to -4.0 in both eyes and couldn’t see anything or go anywhere if I didn’t have glasses or contacts. It’s been such a gift to freely see! Forever grateful for all the people involved who helped restore my vision!!

I am a real patient who just had a life changing experience and wanted to share that experience for those who are hesitating or holding off on cataract surgery. I was starting to notice my vision deteriorating, and it became more and more difficult to see while driving on dark early mornings and evenings. I did a lot of research online on cataract surgery and then researched Eye Doctors in the area. I decided on The Eye Institute of Utah. I was able to get an appointment quickly with Dr Zavodni. The staff was kind, patient, professional and informative. Dr. Zavodni examined my eyes answered all of my questions and determined that I needed surgery. After discussing my desired post-surgery vision outcome, we settled on the PanOptix trifocal lens. They were able to get me in quickly for my surgery, only 6 days after my initial appointment. The surgery lasted about 20 minutes and Dr Zavodni made sure I was comfortable and was not having any issues or pain. My wife drove me home and I got to wear those dark sexy old man glasses (bonus). Although vision was a little fuzzy (normal post-surgery) I was amazed that my vision was already better with my new lens (right eye) than my left eye and my left eye still has 20/20 vision but with presbyopia in that eye. Now three days later, I can read all of the text on my phone and tablet without readers. As a Systems Engineer, I spend most of my day in front of computer screens. I am currently writing this review without my 1.50 readers; I haven't been able to do that in 8 years. I returned the next day for the Doctor to look at my eye and everything looked great. When they tested my right eye, my vision was 20/20 and I could just about make out the 20/15 line. Now, only 2.5 days later my vision at all distances with my new lens is improved. Dr Zavodni told me my vision would improve over time and he was correct. I can't wait to see how good my vision will be in 8 weeks. If you are suffering with cataracts and have been putting surgery off, I can assure you, there is no reason to wait. If you want a superior experience, give The Eye Institute of Utah a call, I am confident they will take care of you.

I'm sure there are cheaper places, but I've also heard that you end up spending more than originally quoted at those cheaper places. I'm okay not going to the discount location to have a giant laser burn off part of my eye. I had Lasik 4 days ago, and the day after I could see essentially as well as with my contacts. There are halo effects around bright lights so I have some night blindness, but I experienced some of that with my astigmatism. The doctor and nurses were professional. Wait times for the consultation were reasonable (but not short) but the actual Lasik procedure was remarkably quick. I think I was on the surgery bed for less than 5 minutes. It was nerve wracking and there was some discomfort when they did the initial lens flap (strong pressure on eye), but I didn't feel anything from the lasers. The correction laser does create an unpleasant smell, especially when you realize what you're smelling, but that lasted less than 25 seconds. So far I'm satisfied and hopeful that the night halos and moderate dryness will just improve in the next few months. -1 month update, eyes still have frequent dryness. My night vision is worse than before the procedure. Driving at night actually isn't that bad, even though I get the halo and prism effects from bright lights, but once the overall light levels drop (waking up early and walking around when it's dark) I can't see well at all or it seems it takes longer for my eyes to adjust to low light. I still would have had the procedure, but I wish I'd known about this beforehand. My left eye during daylight has better than normal vision and my right is at 20/20. I might have a harder time focusing on things extremely close to my face, but I'm not sure. Update - 6 months after surgery. My eyes have recovered well, vision is perfect, and the issues with halos and night vision have improved to the point where it's about as good as when I had glasses or contacts in. Overall, it's a wonderful success.

I wasn't a candidate for Lasik, but for PRK. I had tons of questions before I was willing to commit to the surgery. Dr. Zavodni was extremely patient and thorough while I went through my list of questions and never gave me the feeling I was asking dumb questions the way some doctors do. The surgery was smooth and easy. I felt extremely comfortable the entire time. The recovery wasn't bad and I went from 20/400 to 20/20 within a couple of weeks. Wish I had done this sooner, best thing I have ever spent money on!

Part 1 of 3 of a verbose review (necessary because of arbitrary google review character limitations and posted by my minion to circumvent said restrictions) My experience with the Eye Institute of Utah involves my electing to have a “refractive lens exchange” procedure with the ReSTOR multi-focal lens(es) at age 51, nine years ago. While such a procedure is probably almost exclusively chosen concurrent with the onset of cataracts, I did it simply for vision improvement. Both presbyopia and distance vision had become moving targets for a succession of trifocal prescriptions, and since I’m blue-eyed and spent ample time in the desert sun growing up playing tennis, I figured cataracts were likely more of a “when” than “if” likelihood, so I’d beat the rush and enjoy some improved vision earlier rather than later. To be clear, this is entirely different than any sort of LASIK procedure (which does nothing for middle-age presbyopia anyway). Dr. Cionni performed the procedure and has been part of the follow-up process ever since. There are upsides and downsides to any artificial lens, and the ReSTOR lens is no different. Promotional material asserts that these lenses have perhaps a higher than 90% favorable outcome as reported by patients receiving them, but that implies that some non-negligible group of people are unhappy with the outcome. Since I am in the 90%, I will elaborate somewhat at length on the necessary compromises of these artificial lenses as an “informed speculation” about what bothers the unhappy minority of patients who ended up dissatisfied. There are only a handful of regional eye centers in the U.S. that do as many procedures as the Eye Institute of Utah. Practice make perfect, and doing a lot of anything is bound to improve outcomes. Second, it seems to me that EIoU spares no expense in equipping itself with the cutting edge best of everything necessary to fulfill their commitment to their patients for optimizing chances of favorable outcomes. Everything from the vast range of pre-surgical diagnostic tests/equipment to the surgery itself was pretty impressive; exhaustively thorough and smooth as silk on the (two successive) surgery days. The procedure itself is done fully conscious and could be considered a bit psychologically brutal. Painless yes, but bring a healthy dose of “zen” with you for the Clockwork Orange re-enactment. A speculum holds the eye open and a light seemingly as bright as the sun is shined in with no chance to blink or avert one’s gaze. You must stare directly into it for quite some time. The evening after my first eye was done, my night vision was so compromised I seriously wondered if it would ever recover. (It did) Dr. Cionni was clearly especially conscientious to ensure that the choice of lens for my eye was the right one, asking his assistant to double check that “19” was the same answer twice to a final measurement informing the lens selection prior to implanting it. Judging by the reaction of the assistant, such possible ambiguity between two separate measurements is not common, but I appreciated the conscientiousness nonetheless. This was the stage of the procedure, I think, where the distance vision was being prioritized to be as close to perfect as possible, with any (possible) compromise (if any) going to the near vision result. (As it turns out, there was seemingly zero compromise there either, as I will brag about shortly) Day two, the other eye was done. Same smooth procedure.

I went first to another place that is well known. I wanted a second opinion and came to the Eye Institue of Utah. The Eye Institue and Dr. Cionni did much more thorough testing. I have scheduled the surgery and I am so excited. Dr Cionni does primarily cataract surgery or lens replacement. I feel much more confident with the Eye Institute than the other big name. I will keep you posted. UPDATE: HAD MY SURGERY and love the results. I cried when I woke up the next morning and could read without glasses. THE EYE INSTITUTE CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE MORE THAN THE MONEY. TRUELY AMAZING Got the second eye done and I will never have to wear glasses again. Thanks Dr Cionni and the eye institute

Smooth, awesome experience with my Lasik surgery. They even let me squeeze Abe the Teddy Bear during it. Wish I could have taken that lovable cutie home... Just had my 3-month post-surgery checkup, and my eyes are still better than ever :)
