I have been seeing Dr. Hilton at Berkeley Eye Center for years. As always, my visit this week was great. They were on time with my appointment, they got me in and out quickly, and the staff was very friendly especially Cassandra at check-out. Of course, Dr. Hilton was great as well. I was thinking about changing my type of contact lenses, and he spent the time to discuss that with me to ensure I made the right choice.

I had been having some issues with my eyelids fluttering and vision being off. Being I have an autoimmune disease I was very concerned with not being heard or having issues addressed. Upon arriving I was called back within five minutes. Something I have not experienced at any medical facility in recent years. I then saw Dr. Shrum who was not only very pleasant but addressed all of my concerns. I can easily say I was treated with respect and kindness by all office personnel. It was nice to not feel like a number rather someone paying for a service that deserves attention. Thank you for the wonderful experience that was far above the average office visit.

Longtime patient and pretty satisfied. Not real happy with not being able to treat some things I have wrong but not their fault. Did make some improvements last time around and seems to be helping at least see better for a while. Not ever able to get in to see Dr. Schrum anymore without a 2-3 month wait but the other Dr.'s have been doing great. Very nice and helpful staff. Would highly recommend them to anyone gladly.

It has been said the proof is in the pudding. I can say firsthand that they make good on the products they sell. On two occasions over the last year, stress cracks developed in my lens. Each time I brought them in the problem was acknowledged and immediately cared for each time. The employees were professional and courteous. I am extremely pleased with their customer service. Jordan and Sarah were great! I went to see dr.shrum for a chalazion but he refused to help me because I'm 9 months pregnant and I'm not going to judge a doctor for not doing something that made him uncomfortable but fortunately Jordan and Sarah at the front were absolutely the sweetest, it was so human the way they talked and interacted with. They were able to help me get in contact with Dr. Choudhary (a female doctor) who understood my position and was more than willing to do my surgery 1 week later. The only reason why this isn't 5 stars is because I drove pretty far and left work early for this appointment but if the whole reason dr.shrum refused to assist me was because I'm pregnant, then they shouldn't have given me an appointment when I told them that over the phone. But it was fixed at the end.

Dr Ray Shrum and his team are simply the best in the business in my opinion. Once you walk through the front door, you’re greeted by his friendly staff that makes you feel welcomed. My experience with the initial eye exam, cataract surgery and the post-op exam were awesome! I returned 30 days later for my eye exam and then brought over to the Optical department to be fitted for new glasses. I was greeted by Lara and she helped me pick out the frames that complimented my big head. She also helped me pick out some Wiley-X sunglasses so I could look cool while out in the sun. For the best complete eye care, Berkeley Eye Center-Atascocita is the place to go.

I just wanted to take moment and share how my office visit experience went on 03/26/2022. I honestly wasn’t expecting anything less, but on this day the team exceeded my expectations. It was time to purchase a new pair of glasses, but I was so reluctant because since the start of me having to wear them I have yet to find the perfect pair. Well, I had no idea my search was going to be over after allowing John, Crystal A and Christina (Frame Style) to help me. It literally took them 5 mins to find the perfect frame style for me. I’m so grateful for them, I was able to leave the office that day as a satisfied patient. Shout out to them for their kind, patient and over and beyond customer service that day. Although all of my experiences with Berkeley Eye Center have been very smooth, my exam this year was exceptionally efficient. I had no wait time and almost no time between phases of the exam. My wife and I spent less than 45 minutes to complete our eye exams. My wife has been a Berkeley patient for many years; I began with them only a 4 years ago. This is a better experience than my previous provider. There were no magazines in the waiting room. One didn't need them: we were seen so quickly that I wouldn't have had time to read anything! I used to read whole sections of a magazine while waiting.

Linda Curtis was very very helpful when we went to get the new contact prescription. 😊 My daughter had eye issues. The Atascocita office got us an emergency visit within two hours. My daughter had to come back every two days for follow up appointments for a week to make sure she was not losing her eye sight. This office was very punctual, no long wait times and very friendly.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shrum's for the past 6 years. He and his staff have always been great. I just had cataract surgery done in both my eyes by Dr. Shrum. I had the left eye done and then the right eye two weeks later. Both experiences were excellent. The surgery center experience was a s pleasant as the office visits to Dr. Shrum. Dr. Shrum was there on the morning of both surgeries to check on me and to assure me about the surgeries. I had a 5:30 AM appoint both times and was back at home by 7:30 AM. The next day post-op visits to Dr. Shrum's off were both quick and reassuring. There was no pain with either eye and I now find myself seeing clearly without glasses. Colors are more vibrant and the world looks completely different. I only use reading glasses (over the counter) for reading small print. Thank you Dr. Shrum.

We just moved into the Atascosita area in December. I had an emergency in July with my right eye because I irritated it trying to take out my contact. It was almost 6 pm and I called several vision offices and the doctors had already left for the day. I decided to go to emergency and on my way saw Berkeley Eye Center. I stopped and went inside to see if they could help or at least see me in the morning. Imagine my surprise when the nurse went in the back and asked Dr Shrum if he could fit me in. I was not a patient there only a worried walk in. Dr Shrum saw me, calmed my nerves and fixed the problem. At the same time he checked my eyes and noticed my cataract lenses were cloudy and needed a lasik cleaning. We made a follow up appointment for the irritated eye and also scheduled a full exam for a later date. When I went in for my full exam Dr. Shrum also cleaned my cataract lenses and after my eyes cleared up from the procedure I saw better and clearer than I ever had including right after cataract surgery back in 2018. I can't say how happy and fortunate I was to have taken a chance and stopped in at Berkeley Eye Center that scary day. This was probably the best experience I have had with any Optometrist/Ophthalmologist in my life. These folks are terrific!

3 stars for overall. I would give 5 stars for Dr Shrum and Dr Hilton. They are both wonderful, knowledgeable, personable doctors. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, unfortunately there’s a few that really ruin it for the entire office. On numerous occasions, I’ve seen staff talking about their weekend, their work scheduling issues and complaining of co-workers while patients waited on being helped. On my last visit, the front desk gave my the wrong insurance information. At the check out desk, I explained I was given the wrong information but did not argue or cause a seen. I explained and paid. After leaving the office, I realized I had forgotten something, when I returned, I witnessed the two employees speaking very loudly about me and my personal information, while the front desk woman stated that I had lied. We’ve been going to this office for almost 10 years. I absolutely love the doctors and most of the staff is great. Unfortunately, there are a few that are just not professional.

If you are looking for the best ophthalmologist in Houston, look no further. Dr K Ray Schrum MD is the greatest! My vision has been poor for some time and I thought it was just getting old. Dr Schrum diagnosed my issues and also recommended cataract surgery to further improve my eyesight. The cataract surgery was amazing, no pain or discomfort, took less than 15 minutes and afterwards, you would never know you had surgery. No eye irritation, nothing. This office is a pleasure to visit, the staff is attentive and have never waited longer than 10 minutes to be seen. They are very busy, but very organized.

I had an unexpected eye visit with Dr. Shrum today. It was a really BIG scare from getting a type of chemical into my eye. You know what happens when you read the warnings on the container. You figure you are doomed after that. When my husband called and made me an appointment, I was seen the same day and only sat and waited about 10 minutes before called to the treatment room and left in about 15 minutes later. It was only about a 25 minute visit total. Dr. Shrum came into the room with a smile on his face as always and asked a few questions of what happened and then examined me. They rolled my mom in a wheel chair to our car. They gave us a list of instructions to follow during recovery. Now my mom sees without glasses for the first time since she was in the 3rd grade. She is so happy she went through the surgery. Recovery was easy. I set timers to remind us to put all her eye drops in on time and to take Tylenol regularly. He so desperately tried to get my eyes to stop focusing so he could get an accurate prescription, when that didn't work, he explained that he was going to dilate my eyes and try again. Most doctors I've seen in the past have just written my prescription as is, causing me literal headaches because I've been wearing the wrong eyeglasses for years. After an hour, I finally have the correct glasses and I couldn't be happier with my experience. Also a HUGE thank you to Alyssa in the optical department for spending 30 mins of her day watching me try on every frame available and helping me choose the perfect frames for my face without seeming annoyed that I was so indecisive. What I like about him is when he does the eye exam he does it in a way that I understand what 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 is and he doesn't do it too fast that you can't focus and see a different.
