My Mother was a vivacious lady of 99 and had lived on her own until an unexpected health issue. Her desire to live anywhere but her home was "out of the question". We explored other options when her doctor told us she would not withstand the trip to move her back to live with us.
As all her family lived back east, our fear was if she would be properly watched over and cared for both medically and emotionally. Oakey receives 6 stars for both! The medical team kept me informed of her health changes, medications and anything she needed to be comfortable. The entire staff kept an "eye" on her and made sure she was out of her apartment and participating in any of the activities that she chose. She had been at Oakey a couple months before we asked her about selling her home. Her reply was "Yes - sell it - my girls love me and I love them, I couldn't ask for anything nicer than living here"
To the entire staff - thank you - for each and every kind word, act or deed you did for my Mom. She thought highly of everyone because their smile, sweet hellos and willingness to make her feel a part of the family! I feel Oakey was a God send for our family. Even living back east were confident that Mom was getting the best of loving care. We truly feel she lived a longer, happier, healthier and safer life at Oakey and her days were filled with activities and entertainment which filled her last days with joy, laughter, peace and love.

This place rocks! The staff is genuine and caring. The company works with you as much as they can. I am so impressed with this senior living facility. The environment is clean and positive. They offer activities and have so many opportunities for tenants for activity. They even have poker night! The food is great and I love how nicely they have renovated the building.
Thank you so much destination Oakey for taking such great care of my father in law, Monte. You guys exceed any and all expectations!
Las Vegas has so many facilities that are packed with waiting lists and poor care...this place deserves the 5 star rating! Keep up the incredible service!

The food used to be disgusting my dad complained about it constantly. The finally replaced the person in charge of the food and the food is better. No complaints from my dad. Since Dawn took over, there are no thefts of which I am aware, but Dawn resigned earlier this week.
During the last year, my dad has given me his ATM card every month to take money out for him. I am not sure how he manages to spend $500 or more every month. As far as I know, he pays cash for a haircut. I think he may be paying an employee a lot of money for cigarettes. He spent a lot of time restricted to his room. I know of one outbreak of COVID that destroyed one ladies mind. My dad has become distant and depressed.
Oakey has a very high turnover rate because they don't pay enough. There are a few very wonderful employees and caregivers, but some are working in the wrong career. It is a very tough job. I spend a few hours with my dad and he is very demanding.
The worst part is the medicine. With so much turnover, my dad doesn't always get his medicine. I have witnessed this in person twice and I was on the phone listening to my dad argue and say things like he should be getting six pills instead of three. He asks them to double check and the caregiver comes back with the other pills. They blame the old people for not being aware, but some of the caregivers are less aware than the residents. I am concerned that some of these pills are being kept by the caregivers for malicious purposes like personal use or selling. It has happened too many times. It has happened so many times that he doesn't count anymore.
When I first researched this place, it was the best I could find at dad's price range. As much as he pays, it needs to be better. Thank you to those who do a great job there. You are appreciated and much needed.
The caregivers are overworked because there are not enough of them. They deserve more money because they earn it.
This facility is poorly managed. The turnover of employees is very high. The Wellness Director was doing a great job helping people, but she was promised a raise by management so when she didn't get it she asked about it. When she asked about it, they fired her a few days after Christmas. The Wellness Director is the only member of management who would return my calls. I miss her assistance.
They tried to overcharge my dad by more than $500 while he was in the hospital. This is a business and I understand the need to make money, but overcharging a senior who was in the hospital is unethical. This is typical of many businesses in Las Vegas. It is interesting how these inadvertent "mistakes" are always in favor of the business. It is shameful.
Management will lie to you about anything and will promise you everything. It requires being persistent and getting angry to get anything done. I think I know where these missing pills are going. I am really tired of being lied to by the people at Oakey. I need to get my dad moved out and retain a lawyer. This place isn't right. They have no integrity and use dishonest practices.
Theft is also an issue. My dad has always been good about keeping track of his money. How he is missing $700 after 3 days isn't clear. I took him to the ATM on a Saturday. He called me on Tuesday to tell me the money was missing. He did not leave the facility during that time. I sometimes join my dad for a meal and the other residents complain about the thefts. It only takes one dishonest staff member to create havoc. The residents don't complain because the management won't believe them or they fear repercussion(s).
For some reason I have not been able to lower the number of stars to a one star rating. It is a one star.

Oakey is a beatifull facility that is always immaculately clean, but what makes it such a special place is the community culture and environment. They really are a family and you can feel that everyone is happy to be residing there and employees like to be there as well!! Would recommend for anyone and their parents!!!

I toured this facility before my grandma decided to move in. The first thing I noticed was the lush gardens. The smell of the building in not antiseptic- it smells like someone's home. The furnishings are well maintained and there are little conversation areas with games set out invitingly. The apartments are nice and we could paint if we like as long as we repaint when she leaves. She can do her laundry or have it done at no extra charge. Meals are included and looked really good. There's a billiards room, theatre and salon. I'm very happy that she's living there.
