Reviews of Joint Custody
Solid record shop in DC. I found a nice selection of Blues, Reggae, Calypso and Hip Hop here. Friendly staff and it seems they have a consistent flow of used vinyl. I saw a fair amount incoming while I was here. Also they had a listening station that was functional which is a huge plus.
Joint Custody is the best record store in the country -- and one of the best in the world outside of Japan. Fair prices and extremely well curated. There is something here for listeners and collectors of seemingly every genre: jazz, hardcore, rock, gospel, country, etc. etc. You'll find something in their "Just In" section that you won't find anywhere else every single time.
great place! owners/people who work there are very friendly and are more than happy to let you look around and browse.
they have a HUGE selection of vinyl that spans the wall from the front of the store all the way to the back jam-packed full of records. any genre you are possibly thinking about can be found here. they also have a pretty sexy selection of boomboxes and turntables for sale as well which i would highly recommend checking out.
opposite of the record wall is an assortment of pretty lit 1980's and early 1990's clothing which i will def. have to come back and check out.
overall, really good! prices are a little high, but worth it!
Very cool record shop - fantastic selection in rock and metal. Super nice guy (owner?) at the front counter. Totally recommend checking out if you are in the area or visiting.
Amazing record shop. Really cozy basement vibe with cool art. They have a great variety of records. I found a few I was looking for, for a long time. The guy at the register was also really nice. I recommend this place.
By far the coolest record store in DC. A HUGE selection, top-notch staff down for recommendations, and tons of free flair when you make a purchase. An essential visiting spot for anyone into the Dischord catalog or rare records in general.
Good selection of records. Employees are nice and knowledgeable, but you engage them instead of the other way around. Player to yest records is available.
My good friend John Puerto Vinyl, recommended me this store. This place has a unique way of treating their customers, prices are always right, and every single vinyl is always in almost perfect conditions, my new favorite record store. I would give an extra star because it’s the only store that I’ve been that has a bathroom, this makes the visit more comfortable if you’re in the needs of using it.
This is a nice little record shop.
Staff is welcoming and friendly.
Prices on used vinyl are pretty reasonable, new vinyl varied. Some were a tad outrageous.
They do have some great used finds, definitely some hard to find pieces here.
A great shop in the city. I'd definitely come back.
This is one of the best record shops in DC. The staff have excellent taste in music, and last time I visited I found several records I'd been hunting for unsuccessfully for years.
I do like this store. Staff is helpful. Selection is good. New arrivals bin of used vinyl is big and fun to look through. The prices are pretty fair. My only gripe is that they often grade the vinyl better than it is and that alone costs them a star. Sorry guys, but it's true. Red Onion, down the street, has much higher standards of vinyl condition. Not that the condition is always bad, it just needs to match the grade on the front sticker. I've seen a slight improvement lately though
Best record shop in the area. Great Soul, Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop, Reggae and African Selections. Discount section has so many gems. Overall great place for music lovers old and young, looking to build their collection
This place was awesome! They had a great selection of used vinyl and the employee was coolcool he helped me find what I wanted. Him and another person also made some nice comments about my shirt which made my day (they even took a picture with me). The new arrivals section was full of some great albums. I walked out with Lennon, Zappa, and Waits for a very reasonable price.
Went in for a browse hoping to find a vinyl for a friend. The staff (1 guy) was friendly and gave me enough space to look around. They've got a nice location and a pretty large selection.
As far as prices go, I think it will be relatively hard to find something in this store for the Amazon Prime price. This store is more for the experience of going through a large collection and finding something a bit more obscure that peaks your interest. Definitely worth the time if that is your sort of thing.
They have a great selection of constantly rotating used records, in all genres. They really exceed in hip hop, metal, punk/hardcore. I always find at least 10 things to buy.
Great selection of vinyl, found some quality blues and jazz albums that I've been wanting to add to my collecrion... a bit pricey though. Really good inventory of hip hop and rock. Cool selection of old t-shirts and vintage Hawaiian shirts.
This place is one of my favorite stores. I don't collect (and don't plan to start) records, but this place has quite a selection of records that always peak my interest (just to hang on the wall). I typically visit this place to find an awesome vintage hat or some sort of other vintage clothing. They also have a bunch of interesting pins and other small accessories that make this shop great.
The place is really nice, but what I loved he most is that they have a good classic rock section and the records are in excellent conditions, so this place is a must if you like buying records
Great group of friends that are very knowledgeable. I've been shopping here for more than two years for a lot of my vintage clothes. They have if not THE best one of the best selections in this area. The prices are very fair as well.
Lots of curated clothes and records to sift through in a tight, but cozy environment. Came here on a whim with the will to explore, and left with a record and a vintage sweater! Plus, the lovely people tending the register were sharing local family owned food recommendations, just to give a sense of the environment and people. Modest curation of music, mostly alternative and punk (makes sense for DC). Some older alternative cassettes too, which is always great to see! Loads of fantastic vintage t shirts in the front, leading on to sweaters and jackets in the back. Definitely worth a visit!
Cool little places with lots of finds!
Omg I never dis spot was here til a buddy took me I was in there jammin I loves all da oldie but goodie records I saw couldn't afford them all but I did purchase 2 check dis spot out #illBeBackSoon
I found some great deals on new-old-stock (i.e. still sealed in shrink wrap) records here. $3 for a $10 Lionel Hampton. $1 for a Clifton Chenier worth at least $10. Prices were about as good as anywhere for most used LPs. I'll be going back.
Great selection on vinyl and has a nice collection of vintage clothes too. Fun place to stop in and get lost in
Shopkeeper is knowledgeable and great for conversation too.
Best record store in DC, hands down!
friendly staff willing to talk record collecting minutia and 12 Inch Dance Records Store (R.I.P.) memories with this babbling customer. Also found a must-purchase Saafir white label pressing. Score!
Very cool vintage store with a great record selection, excellently curated. The owner was very cool and nice too.
This place had an excellent selection of rap and reggae records. This is definitely the place to go if those are your genres.
Awesome record shop, very friendly and nice 🙂 …
So I've shopped here a fair amount, but wont be back. Unless you're talking to the main dude who works/owns the place (who's a 5 star) you're likely going to have to deal with people who are largely unhelpful and rude.
A wonderful pick for a record store. It felt more like a conversation than a transaction when I made my purchase. I can't wait to go back.
Plenty of Old School music and clothing. $$$$
Love this place. Great variety and excellent quality. You won't find any phenomenal deals and the stairs suck. Friendly staff.
Great selection wide variety but just need to organize the bottom shelf a bit. I would love to see a dollar bin or something
This is my favorite record shop in DC. Huge selection and it's well curated. These guys are legit. What a great shop.
This place is great, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Only thing that keeps this from being five stars is that the records are only loosely organized, but that's not a big deal.
Good selection, friendly staff, good choice in background music. Has a lot of indie records.
Nice vintage place, kind of a glorified thirft store. We had a good time here
Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Incredible selection- I’ve never left unsatisfied
As far as I know, this is the only record shop in DC (excluding Arlington) that has any sort of electronic section.
Just stopped in for a few minutes. But what I saw I liked. Going back when I have more time to explore
Excellent selection of punk and hardcore. Well catalogued and alphabetized, and super friendly staff!
Workerd really were knowledgeable about the records
Awesome selection, great service, records were in near perfect condition!
Good selection of vinyl and nice people working there.
Great selection, great humans. Super awesome handling of COVID-restrictions.
Super nice guys working there!
Small used vinyl record shop. Great staff.
Cool staff, cool shop, good selection of records!
Got some great cassettes for a great price. In great condition too.
If you love vinyl you need to go here
Good punk/hc selection, but they overcharge for the rare stuff.
Huuuge record collection and awesome t shirts and various other items
One of the best record stores in DC!
Great spot, awesome customer service, cool selection :)
