We have gone to this store for string instruments care, rental and purchasing for over 10 years. We have rented for over 10 years and bought a cello and viola from this store. I have been very pleased with Manchester Music from the start and recommend them enthusiastically to anyone interested in string instruments. They have phenomenal craftsmanship and sound understanding of the art of string instruments. Andrei is a wealth of knowledge and was so supportive of finding the best instrument for my children for their level. Again I cannot reccomend this shop enough!

Please come here for your music rentals. The rentals are very inexpensive but the customer service is above the rest. I have rented from them for 4 years and their service and prices has not changed. There are a plethora of instruments in stock and they are very knowledgeable people.

We came in early on a Saturday and were very promptly greeted. The sizing and rental for a violin went very quickly and we were in and out in no time. Our chin rest ended up being an incorrect size but it was swapped out quickly and with no issue.

This store is amazing! The gentleman who owns it is so knowledgeable, friendly and kind. As a mom, who never played strings, with children in the Rockwood district, the owner makes everything so easy to understand and doesn’t make you feel like an idiot for not knowing what things are called or even what they do. I would give this super a 10 star if I could. Truly an amazing store!

Our daughter started strings in the 3rd grade and continued on with the violin. She will be a freshman this fall and we have rented her violins from Manchester Music this entire time. Manchester Music is a privately owned strings shop, which equates to amazing, personalized customer service. They’re rental rates are competitive (or even more reasonable than) with some of the big chain music stores. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable about all the stringed instruments so they knew exactly when our daughter needed to switch up to the next size violin, what kind of chin rest she needed, etc. The owners are also incredibly kind and understanding. At one point our daughter had been neglectful in taking care of her bow and she ruined it to the point of having to be restrung. They did not charge us for the damaged bow. Instead, they very patiently reminded her that she had learned all the important rules about instrument care at school repeatedly each year starting in the 3rd grade, and asked her to please take better care of the new bow. Their kind and gentle approach was totally effective and our daughter never mistreated another bow again! We set up an automatic monthly rental payment on our credit card. A few times over the past 6 years, our card was compromised and we needed to change cards. They gave us very kind reminders to let them know the new card info. Manchester Music also offers strings lessons. If your child is starting strings or if you just need to switch to a better violin shop, I recommend Manchester Music, hands down!

We went to replace the strings on brothers cello, and the owner found out that the cello my brother was sold was actually cracked. And this cello was one that we bought just last year. He gave us expert advice and so we went back the store where we bought the cello (it was an expensive cello) and we showed them the crack and were able to get a brand new cello. The staff are such amazing people. Whenever we visit to repair our violins or our cellos, they will do more than what’s expected. Andrey especially is such an amazing person. Like when we visit other music stores, they charge for every small thing they do. But Andrey is very knowledgeable about stringed instruments and someone that you can really trust with fixing your instrument and he always goes above and beyond with his customer service. I highly recommend that you choose Manchester music for lessons or repairs or rentals. They are hands down the best place for stringed instruments and our number one stop to go to for our violins and cellos.

We had a wonderful experience renting instruments for our triplets through Manchester Music. Each girl was treated as individual, which is not always the case with multiples, and fitted properly for their instrument. Everyone was friendly and so knowledgeable, it was a great start to my girls loving their strings class at school. I highly recommend them for all musical needs!

Over the top service. Their love for the instruments is evident in the care they take for each piece, but it is the care they give to their customers that is most evident. If you truly want customer service (which is rare these days), and to feel confident with a rental or purchase, this is the place to go. I loved how they set my son up for success with his cello rental.

Manchester Music Violin Shop is a highly reputable string shop that I enthusiastically recommend to my colleagues especially for their bow rehair work. My best cello bow does extremely well with the high quality hair that lasts longer than the hair from other shops I've used. Andrey rents very lovely cellos to my students and I know they will have an instrument that they can play well. His shop is in a convenient location for those who live in west county.

Excellent customer service. Very trustworthy. I came into the shop very inexperienced, willing to spend a fair amount of money to repair a beginner's violin. The employee there said he could have it in playing condition within a few days for a fraction of what I had in mind. Since then, I've gotten great reviews from semi-professional violinists about the quality and playability of this violin, which was very cheap to begin with. I'm very pleased with the service, and the man that works there loves what he does. Privately owned and therefore it isn't as well known as the large retailers, but this place far exceeds the big music businesses in service, expertise, and quality.

Manchester Music is fantastic. The bow rehairs are world class. The hair is strong and expertly laid out and they go the extra mile to make sure the bow is cleaned up and are careful not to damage anything. This has not always been my experience at many nationally well known shops. Andrey also spent many hours patiently cleaning and setting up my girlfriend's cello and took the time to really get it dialed in made it sound better than ever. We have to come from out of town, but the pilgrimage is worth it to get such expert, friendly, and consistent service. Update: I was back in town from the southwest ( I live in Phoenix) where I had a bridge made at a well known shop and knew something didn't feel right but the other shop reassured me all was well. I took it to a shop in New York where I was on tour and a repair person there confirmed my suspicions. Andrey to the rescue again. My cello is a modern French instrument based on a large early Strad pattern and the bridge that was put on it was too low (which I felt) and too narrow (which I didn't know but explained a lot). The bridge I got at Manchester Music totally changed the sound and feel. My cello had its power back, was easier to play, had much less of a wolf tone, and had so many more tone colors. It sounds better than ever! I will be planning trips specifically to go to this shop from now on as I've had too many inferior repairs and sub-par maintenance jobs from other "reputable" shops. This shop exceeds my expectations every time and I recommend all musicians from beginner to professional players with valuable antique instruments have their work done here.

For many years, Manchester Music, under Andrey's management, has consistently been a knowledgeable, reliable and highly-skilled string shop in the St.Louis area. He assures high quality instruments in his student- line rentals, has a wonderful stock of supplies, instruments for sale, and a good supply of music books. He's also very supportive of school programs in the area. Being a retired string teacher and still an active player, I rely on Andrey for all my re-hairing and general maintenance issues/questions, and I recommend him to my colleagues often.

My newer cello developed a major crack in its top due to a flaw in the wood. Although I had not purchased the instrument from Manchester Music, Andrey Lobko took it upon himself to contact the dealer in California and have them send me another cello by the same maker. Andrey could have charged me for a very expensive repair but he chose to help me acquire a replacement. I can't say enough good about his integrity and expertise in my dealings with him.

Andrei and Manchester Music is truly the best in town. When it comes to instrument rental for your child this shop has the most to offer. A huge array of all different kinds and sizes of instruments. Manchester Music have the most helpful and kind employees. They helped me figure out what size, books, and other accessories for my kid who was doing violin. They helped a lot to figure out what to get even when I knew nothing about what I was doing. When my kid accidentally dropped his violin they fixed it for free with no questions asked. I give this place 4 stars because of the behavior of one of the staff members that was helping us rent a violin. He was showing us bad attitude to me and my mom and didn’t have any respect, but did have good explanations for any questions that we had. Fortunately, all the equipment and materials that are needed for future references for any instrument, are great and perfect for usages! All that was disappointing, was the bad behavior towards the customers. (don’t take this too personally).

For the past five years, they have donated a violin each year to Claymont Elementary school for the school's Trivia Night.
