Helpful staff, pretty great selection of used, new, audiophile, and relatively rare vinyl, and mostly on par / reasonable pricing. You won't find aisles and aisles here-- the shop is small, but I still (somehow) manage to spend an hour here each time I stop to "look for just one thing." Surprisingly robust jazz section. Country seemed a bit thin, but some artists are put in with Rock / Pop / Indie. Small selection of equipment for sale.

Nice store, clean and lots of good music choices. Would have given 5 stars, but I couldn't put my finger on this curly-headed guy named Sam. His breath smelled faintly of cranberry tuna salad and his gaze echoed with the haunting memory of a recent dream involving a fruit laden basket, Terry Crews and a photograph of the Virgin Mary. He has nice fingernails, but bad cuticles, so I'm a little torn... Would visit again!

Travel back in time, but without the DeLorean. Randy's Records is a blast from the past in the best possible way. The shop is cozy, and smells like vinyl. It will bring back memories of time spent with friends digging through records. This local shop is a must visit. Friendly staff, lots of records, and chill vibes makes this shop a favorite of locals.

Stopped by on a spur of the moment decision to browse this store. I will say, it Hasn't changed much since 1999..There are lots of genres on tape, record, & CD here at this store. It is a small store and I hope they expand someday🤷‍♀️ It would be cool if they did, however I also understand that much of the music nowdays is digital-- thereby eliminating the need for the larger music stores that use to be at one time. It does seems like the store is a tad smaller from 20+ yrs ago. The prices were pretty much on par with online prices for new records, but some prices for used as well as less in demand genres were a bit cheaper. My only issue was that I was hoping that perhaps paying customers might be able to use the restroom right quick-- it was simply not possible and I was told to go to several other places despite us spending over $100 at this store at the time. Idk about anyone else, but I would feel weird asking another store to use their restroom if I wasn't a paying customer-- whereas at this place, we were. All in all, an okay experience. If we return, it will definitely be planned.

The staff are friendly and helpful. They have a large variety of records, some in better condition than others. I spent a long time browsing through their selections and was able to find some hidden gems. Great experience overall!

Fantastic place to find records! I just started collecting recently but I've managed to roll my collection very quickly by coming here. The dollar record section is fantastic. The staff is very knowledgeable. I love the atmosphere. I'm being able to look at all of the new incoming records is so much fun.

I live down in Utah County and because of their high rating I've wanted to go up there because I am collecting jazz vinyl. I had other business near the downtown area. They have a very broad spectrum of vinyl. Their jazz is in a room by itself. I found some albums I wanted. Parking is a problem. That's typical of small retail like that downtown. I was able to park around the corner on the other side of the street.

Pretty cool shop, I can see why it's so well-reviewed. There were quite a few people inside combing through the massive new arrival section. Found some gems at reasonable prices. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots for $30? Heckin' yeah. Also, the staff seemed very helpful.

Other record stores can have aloof and intimidating staff. Not the case at Randy's. The staff complimented my selections at check out and made me feel really good. I mentioned it was my birthday and they gave me a shop sticker. I felt welcomed and special. I'm definitely coming back.

My favorite record store in Utah! Quite a big selection of all kinds of music as well as carrying releases from the best record pressing manufacturers such as Blue Note, Analogue Productions, Sam Records, and Mobile Fidelity. Their used records are usually graded and priced fairly. The employees are knowledgeable and seem passionate about music without being snarky. They also play really great records through the speakers in the store which sometimes leads you to find your new favorite record! I recommend this place to anybody that loves music, the only downside is that there’s too much good stuff here to keep up with

SLC has very few record shops compared to other cities this size. This shop has a small selection not very many good finds in the place . Prices are up to date with the times of over priced vinyl. Choices are limited. SLC could use another record store

Randy's is legendary, every Disc Jockey, local band, concert goer, musician of any genre or level, knew and loved hanging out at RANDY'S. They always had the good stuff the minute it was released. Flipping through the record jackets and reading the liner notes, it was the best! And the good news is they're still there!!!

Been coming here for years. I try my best to take my friends who aren't into vinyl here so they see how cool the vibe is and end up getting them to buy some wax and a player! You know its a cool store when it's known around the country! And if you come on their $2 record sale you can find some gems for cheap but you gotta get it before others do!

This store is an icon. My father has records he purchased here nearly 40 years ago. They have the best selection of any record store I have been to. Edit: This place went under new management a little while back. Since then, many of the old employees left and the store has changed for the worst. The prices have increased by a significant amount, to the point where it's not worth visiting anymore. It's sad to see this iconic place move in the direction it has.

They have a massive selection of new artists and the classics, all organized alphabetically by artist. They are very responsive and kind both over the phone and in-person. They also gave great pricing. I got a record as a gift cheaper than it was online. Go take a look. It's a fun, chill place. Support your local business 👊

Generally better selection than other record stores in the state. Watch out and google certain albums catalog numbers though if it seems too good to be true, they sell undisclosed unofficial and bootleg releases as mentioned in other reviews at normal (or higher) retail price (Almost all of their Death Grips albums in stock, the TOOL albums, many of the records in the Metal section). Their prices are relatively better if not the same as other shops. Expect some damaged sleeves though, they just leave everything to tilt on the shelves I've had records with creases on the cover and surface scuffs on the actual LP. Use Discogs before you buy anything that surprises you.

This is the real deal! A record store like you remember from your youth. Full of knowledgeable people who love music! Very generous selection and fair prices. Need a pre amp or an anti static gun? They've got you covered too! I highly recommend this store to anyone who is into vinyl (they have some cds and tapes as well). Last time I was there I scored 3 lps, 2 of which were new but still sold at used prices. Can't say enough good things about Randy's Records!

Randy's is the quintessential local, small record shop. They have a great selection and even have a few used TTs and vintage receivers. Look out for their warehouse sales where they open the building across the street for some real bin diving (at reasonable prices)!

Great place to get vinyl. The record selection is awesome, but they need more used (their sales show that they have a lot more in a different collection). News is nice, but not price wise. They will buy hardware, and they have good options locally. Go here rather than a big box place for records if you can though so that we can keep it.

Absolutely insane selection! Found 3.15.20 by childish Gambino which I couldn’t even find online! Also found frank oceans entire discography, my friend bought every mf doom vinyl they had after not being able to find it anywhere else, amazing selection will definitely come back if we ever make it back to Salt Lake City.

Went looking for some classic rock CD's and it seemed we were in the wrong place as mostly records fill the store. As we made a quick lap and prepared to leave, an extremely helpful gentleman stopped us and inquired as to the purpose of our visit. They had some good records but a lot of the music that I was looking for was not in store. The packaging was rather sloppy. And the prices were okay but not great. Parking whiz virtually impossible to find. But the staff was very friendly.

I have frequented Randy's most weeks over the last three years. I have ALWAYS found the staff to be polite, helpful and willing to go out of their way for me - even when returning a record. I have purchased both vinyl and player parts from them. No other store has the turnover and constant re-stocking of vinyl that Randy's does. There is always new stuff whenever I go there. I can go two months between visiting other stores and still see the same inventory. Their prices are definitely fair. Keep in mind this is not a thrift store or a yard sale. I have visited stores in Vegas, L.A., Dallas, Minneapolis and Louisville and have yet to have a better experience than I have when I go to Randy's. After all, there's a reason the store has been around for almost 40 years without ever going away. I'm already planning my next visit.

I really like this place. Very relaxed vibe and knowledgeable, easygoing staff. Vinyl can get pricy, but they have a nice mix of new and used. I find good buys just about every time I visit. Wait... now I have mixed feelings about leaving this review. So I will close by saying... I like Randy's, but you probably won't. So don't go there and buy the records I want. ;)

I have been to this place twice and I always feel welcome. I started getting into records many years ago but never was serious until recently. Now it is one of the ways that I regularly listen to music. Whenever I have questions they are there to answer and give any feedback. The environment is relaxed, and even though the place is small it doesn't feel too cramped. I would recommend this to any friends.

Great place for lots of new and used vinyl. Friendly staff considering most record store employees seem to care less they you’re there. The only super annoying thing about this place is they stick an additional price sticker on the center label of the vinyl. If you take it off, it rips off part of the label. This is annoying if you spent a lot of money on a original jazz album 🤬

So grateful for local businesses like this one. The vinyl is very reasonably priced and there are seriously options to appease every taste. It's modest and a bit tight quarters, which contributes to it's authenticity imo. Last time my partner and I visisted they were jamming out to Scientist (quality Dub... not step). Keep on groovin'🤘

One of the great musical institutions in Utah, and perhaps the West. Randy has been at times one of the only places along the Wasatch Front where you could reliably purchase quality vinyl, and more importantly sell something without it being trivialized. It's been so great to see the shop transform from the early 90s till today, and to see the shelves fill back up with vinyl records used and new. Thank you Randy, for all you've done for music fans over the years. The shop is in good hands, with AWESOME staff, and Sam will continue the tradition.

This is a great shop, full of old treasures and new stuff alike. Tip: don’t expect to return even unopened/sealed records. The receipt only said no returns on opened records, but when I tried to return an unopened one 2 days after purchase, the guy seemed kind of upset, telling me they were a small shop and already ordered a new one, now they had an extra one on hand. After some awkwardness he luckily agreed to exchange it, but that they don’t normally do that.

The only real record shop in Utah. Great customer service. Very well organized. Huge huge selection of used and new vinyls and record players. They participate in Record Store Day. They have an aisle where each day they add the new records they have received and move each day down until they sort through all the records at the end of the aisle and put them with their artist and genre.

I can have great conversations with these guys because they understand every aspect of collecting albums. From the values of lp's and equipment to what equipment is best for the style of music being played on it. They have also ordered a few things for me over the years, and it has always been a very professional experience.

By far best record store in all of Salt Lake. Everytime I come here I find amazing records. I have found rare records, one of a kind tecords, bootleg records, out of pressing records, etc here (and all for great prices) They have an AMAZING selection. They are constantly getting new stuff. Also if you are on a budget this is the place to visit. They also have trade ins and used records for super good prices. I have purchased many used records here and I have never had one that was in bad shape. They also label their records with pressing information, how they play, what condition they are in, etc. Super helpful! They also have turn tables set up so you can listen to a used record before you buy it to see how it plays! They also can order in records for you. They are super helpful and very transparent. They are honest and upfront about records and what condition they are in which I really appreciate. If you are looking for records dont waste your time or money elsewhere, this is the place to go to!

Randy's Records is in a convenient location, and feels very nostalgic. Upon my first visit, I was greeted by the man at the register. Seriously, they had everything! Every record I was looking for (BeeGees, Earth Wind and fire, and some lesser known indy bands) regardless the records can get fairly expensive. They also sell turntables and parts to fix existing ones. Parking can be a struggle sometimes but that isnt the shops fault, I definitely reccomend Randy's

As you drive up to the shop and park in the rear of the building, you get the feeling that your going to be mugged... its a beat down, run down shop and smells like moth balls and old dusty vacuum bags... Now for the records, selection, and staff... The staff looks like the regular music store junkies, but they seem fairly knowledgeable. The selection of records and cassette tapes was pretty good. mostly new vinyl and CD though, which i was kind of bummed out for. I love getting a old, dusty, smelly record to play. Although I did purchase one new album and a couple old ones, it was a HUGE fail that they put a plastic sleeve over the records, but put a sticky price sticker right on the cover of the records, and also on the record label... FAIL FAIL FAIL!! find another way to post a price. i hate the possibility of ripping a cover or label because you don't want to see a bright green price sticker on it. some of the prices are ridiculous, but i guess that comes down to supply and demand. considering they are one of maybe 3 record shops in the valley, that i know of, and they have been around FOREVER! all in all, i would give the store in whole a 7.5 out of 10.

There are stores with records in them and then there are record stores. Randy's Records is a true record store. The owner and employees eat, sleep and breathe records and it shows. If you're looking for THE record experience in SLC then this is it. The second generation owner, Sam, talked me through every record player in his inventory and helped me pick a turntable that could essentially last me for the rest of my life. He talked me through setup, care and maintenance and sold my girlfriend her first records after helping her find some lifetime classics. Don't be shy, Sam isn't! As far as Covid goes, all employees were masked up and there was a strict policy for the number of customers allowed in the store. Hand sanitizer was readily available and they are taking it very seriously. Bring your mask and support local businesses!
