Such good vibes! Was here recently to buy equipment I knew nothing about. I walked in the door and JAMES was waiting there, ready to help! I explained that i’m a sound healing therapist and I need the right equipment to do online sound baths. He knows his stuff and was so incredibly helpful and kind! We were in and out, it was painless. We will be back!!! Highly recommended

Best service, flexible and always great to do business with. Great service, great selection and fair prices make for a fabulous company to do business with......go see Mike today. By the way - this is the perfect bedroom amp + you'll never regret adding a Tele to your arsenal....

I live in Southern Oregon and was only able to visit the store in person once. I was impressed by the store and friendly, competent staff. Since my visit, I bought a Gibson ES-335 and an effect pedal from them over the phone. They were very helpful, and I received my items at a great price earlier than I expected, in great condition, and as they described. I highly recommend you shop Five Star Guitars for your musical needs.

Top tier customer service, great prices, and highest quality products. Locally owned and operated. Easily the best guitar shop in the area. A must visit.

Living up to their name! I took my 20+ year old run of the mill MIM Stratocaster in for an upgrade. Geoff and his team were amazing, they helped me fine tune my upgrade selections and turned my little Strat wannabe into a full-fledged modern day Pro Series beast. Shout out to Michael for keeping me posted on progress and last, but definitely not least, Ian (the luthier) for doing some amazing high quality work! Night and day results.

Easily the best guitar store I’ve been to in the greater Portland area. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, amazing selection: you can tell this is a place run by active musicians who know what it’s like to make music in 2022 (as opposed to 1992). I cannot recommend this place enough if you’re a serious guitar player.

Wowza. I just had the most incredible first guitar purchase experience at Five Star! I have been traveling and looking for the right place to browse acoustic options. Spencer, Eric and Michael all assisted me in finding the perfect one, didn’t rush me at all and provided endless expert feedback and answers to all of my questions. Their service was incredibly kind and like hanging out with friends, and I felt zero pressure in choosing something I didn’t want. I left with my dream first guitar!! I’m so happy and stoked to have found them on my roadtrip. Absolutely would recommend Five Star to anyone, beginner or advanced, local or from out of town :)

Eric (unsure of spelling, apologies if incorrect) is phenomenal. He made the experience of getting my girlfriend her first guitar so incredibly special, answering any questions we had and providing great insight and extremely friendly atmosphere. This is the type of service that builds lifelong relationships. I live in Seattle, but I will be back. Thank you for everything you did to help us, and everything you will do in the future. You are a wonderful person.

I love the service and the crew here! I love that they are chill and very understandable, one of the employees helped me find a distortion effect kind of expensive effect, I told him if there were a cheaper one that was in my range since I am a teenager who is young to work, I told him if they had any in the sixty dollars range. Outside of that, I love the fact that they have tons of guitars, I love the golden Les Paul that I played sounded nice but the distortion was also good! I even like how they help with price, I told one of the employees if they help me see stuff for bass for my friend since I am trying to get him to play an instrument, the bass that I played was a Yamaha very nice bass with an amp that is 90$ is not bad. I told them how old to get a job there and the age is nice just got to wait a few years, but love all the instruments. But I can finally say I tried a Les Paul! I look forward to getting a wah-wah there!

When you first walk into this store, you see that it is a high quality music store. Presentation is strong here and it has that wow factor that other music stores don't seem to have anymore. Five Star carries the best brands, have gear in all the price ranges and they have staff that are totally cool/helpful. I appreciated the safe practices they are maintaining with the pandemic in mind and overall my family had a great shipping experience here. We left with a custom signature series Fender that looks as great as it sounds. This is the store for your music gear needs. Check them out. Man I really need to go back for that Eddie Van Halen striped guitar. :)

Held on to my guitar for about a month, which I was happy to do since my guitar had a cracked bridge saddle and wasn’t able to play. After the longer than expected turnaround on the work, I came in and picked up/paid for the work and left not expecting to have any issues. Upon getting home I found a large chunk of the bone from the saddle rattling around inside my guitar and a large piece missing from the saddle itself. There was also tons of just white gunk and fingerprints and new scratches from tool marks. I reached out via phone and was told I needed to email my issues with a photo to their email, which I promptly did same day I picked it up. Zero communication from anyone at the shop via phone and nothing via email.
Not the worst guitar service I’ve experienced but could have definitely been better for just under $300.
Jim Silver
Very happy with Five Star. They helped me through the complications of buying a guitar from outside the country. The guitar arrived in perfect condition. If anything, they understated the condition of the used instrument.

Geoff was very knowledgeable and patient with my beginner questions. He knew a lot about all their products and he was a pleasure to speak with! There was a great selection of used and new gear along with a nice string selection. I even got some free picks for signing up with their rewards. I’ll be back for sure and even if you aren’t in the market for a guitar you should at least check it out! Thanks for the great customer service!
Edit: I have now been there multiple times and it’s always been a great experience. They had a really cool Fender event and a real rock star!

Purchased an acoustic Taylor GS Mini a week ago in person from the store. Couldn't have asked for more helpful and friendly staff. They answered all my questions, gave me plenty of space and time to just sit and play a number of guitars, and were just great all around.
They have a lovely selection of guitars both acoustic and electric, and a huge array of accessories.
I just dropped off a different guitar for a repair job, and the staff was once again helpful and personable. I'm sure the work done will be excellent.
Highly recommend this local shop!

Great local guitar shop with tons of high quality gear. I’ve been a serious hobbies/semi-pro musician for almost 40 years and am a lefty guitar player. I traveled from the East Coast to visit family for the Thanksgiving season and stopped by with the intent of buying a new tuner. Of course I had to browse, but being a lefty player I didn’t expect to see anything I could actually play. Then I spotted 2 lefty PRS SE Custom models. I’ve never even seen one in person. Long story short, I came in to buy a tuner and ended up trading in the Squire Telecaster I keep at my sisters house, and walked out with a brand new beautiful blue PRS. It plays like a dream, and I’ll keep it at my sister’s house for when I come back and need a guitar to jam on. Someday, I’ll probably take it back home to Maryland with me.
Thanks to 5 Star Guitars, the “stars” aligned for me to get a new guitar.

I came from Japan. And not good at English.
But staff is very kind to me.
I notice "All staff really likes Guiter and guest."
So I recommend this shop to my friend.
Thank you so much. I come again.

Literally every gentleman in there is so nice. Guitars of every price range. Beautiful shop. Great guitar luthier. They have chatted, help and fixed mine and my husband's guitars many times. Highly recommend!!!

Truly great service with fun people. My 7 year old daughter wanted to learn the electric guitar, so we visited. The staff was so friendly and helpful, guiding her to the beginning line of products, not overselling anything. After breaking a string on a borrowed guitar, they helped us replace the string along with a lesson on the parts of the guitar and tuning, all delivered very simply (on a seven year old's level) and with great enthusiasm. My daughter goes around now recommending "Five Star Guitar" to everyone!

My go-to guitar store. Always an adventure. The store is spacious and well laid out, with a wide selection of guitars, amps, and gear. Super-friendly and knowledgeable staff that are willing to help find the gear I need, though I'm always content to browse.
Avery Cooper
Don't bother with guitar center, go here!!! They have the gear you're looking for with much nicer staff that is way more helpful and way less pressuring. They were also very nice to my son who wanted to test guitars. Great great store, especially if your like Fender.
T T
Our go-to music store for lessons, instruments, service, strings, what have you. The brand selection has evolved over time, but there is always a big selection of electric and acoustic guitars available. Also good selection of basses, ukuleles, amps, etc. I have purchased multiple bass guitars here, and have them brought in if a setup was needed. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, lessons are great. Would recommend.

Just bought one of the brand new Jazzmasters.. not in stores in Eugene.
Great selection... Guitar was out of box and put on rack.... Setup was terrible, but I did it when I got it home.
Nice people there and my Service Pup Rocky liked it too...... I highly recommend these nice people.
I didn't need a clerk, saw the guitar picked it up and plugged in. They made sure I got the right gig bag and out the door.
My new Jazzmaster plays like a million bucks. I say this at every music store... Adjust them a little before hanging them up.... A guitar that plays well will sell much faster. String height was different on all six strings.
Price was good and I liked the sales guy. I will go back😃😃😃😃😃😃

All of these 5-star reviews for Five Star Guitars track with my experience. I drove 4 hours from Bend because they have a great selection of some of my favorites, namely Gibson, Taylor, and Breedlove. Five Star Guitars is a cut above. The store is open and welcoming. All the folks are very friendly and there’s no pressure and they’re not competing for commission. They let me spend quality time before I bought my new Gibson Hummingbird Studio. They suggested I try a private room, which has never been offered up to me when buying a guitar. But it let me really get to know the guitar rather than feeling watched or judged like you may feel at a big retailer. Likewise, there were no odd dudes shredding in the shop with no intention to buy. I loved that too! No offense fellow shredders!

I normally am not one to leave a review for any place, but Five Star Guitars and the employees that were helping me were amazing. I went in knowing I wanted to learn either Acoustic or Electric Guitar, but did not know which one. The employees walked me through both options and gave me their thoughts on which option was right for me. I gave them my budget and they helped me find an electric guitar package with all the essentials I needed within my budget. I am loving my new guitar and loving learning about how to play. I will certainly be doing all of my guitar shopping here.
Brian Ray
I've always had great experiences shopping at Five Star Guitars and today was no exception. I stopped in to check out an amp head I was interested in. Josh was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! I bought the amp and I could not be happier with my purchase. Five Star Guitars truly lives up to their name.
Nicholas Palmer
I brought in a 20 year old Takamine guitar that I had regretfully not been as kind to as I should've been (sorry old friend).
Being a relatively cheap guitar 20 years ago I wasn't expecting too much of a change in sound when I picked it up after having it set up, was I ever wrong! 5 star guitars performed the work much faster than I expected and the guitar sounds better than I could've expected.
Huge thanks and I'll be bringing in my electric as well with no hesitation!
Carla Bietz
This is a fabulous place. Not only do they have a great selection, but they have knowledgeable and friendly staff who care about your experience. I went to Five Star Guitars to buy a new Breedlove for my birthday. Their staff let me use a private room and I played to my heart’s content. Never did I feel rushed or pressured to buy anything. They even changed out the strings on a brand new guitar for me! I did purchase a beautiful new guitar and will be going back to have all my guitars and dulcimers serviced at Five Star Guitars. Thank you for making my birthday special!!
Gennie Murray
We sold some of my husband's overstock. They were awesome and made the repairs to some of the items and sold them very quickly! We also purchased a Fender Acoustotronic is amazing! The people that work there are also so knowledgeable and friendly! We will be back!
Taylor Mefford
I got my Strat set up by these guys and have never had a better setup in my life… I got exactly what I wanted, back to me in a ~week which was faster than quoted. Great shop, all the guitars on the wall have been set up too so they play right.
Cam Chamberlain
Bought a Black Supro from them. Had billing issues with Reverb.com so I called the shop. Spencer was the coolest guy and helped me get this dream guitar of mine. I live in a different state and Spencer has never met me, yet he helped me as if I was a friend or valued customer. Will only be shopping from them now. Thanks Spencer!
Dan Morrison
Great selection and nice staff. I found the perfect guitar immediately.

I remember when Five Star Guitars was a really small store at a nearby location. Since getting back into guitar after several years I was surprised to see how much they’ve grown, so they’re definitely doing something right! They have an amazing selection on the best guitars available, great prices, and knowledgeable, professional, and friendly staff. For guitars, amps, and associated gear, look no further. Five Star Guitars is literally the only game in town in the entire Portland metro area.
Casey Braunger
The name says it all. This is my go-to guitar store. I've had Ian work on a few of my basses and he's always done a great job.
The staff is always attentive, but not overbearing, and knowledgeable.
Go here for your guitar needs... Not "Guitar-Mart". Support local.
James Avenoso
I purchased a bass here and the staff were nice, place was clean, store was able to order the guitar I wanted. Only downside was the set up on my bass was not for my style of playing. It might be a good idea to ask a customer their playing style preference. The action was set so low (Less than 2mm) I had to raise the bridges to stop the fret buzz. Overall I would shop again, but would let them know my preference.
Michael Munoz
Shout out to Mike who set aside this PRS Custom 24 Piezo for me and made it the BEST experience a customer could wish for. Forever a repeat customer…..
Kleptolian Industries
This shop has some really decent people in it. I have spent way too much time in Five Star, recently, trying to decide between two or three non-high end guitars. The salespeople have been very understanding and patient. Also, their selection of the Squier Paranormal line is unrivaled by any other store I’ve been in. They also have very high end stuff, though. PRS, in particular, but also Gretsch, LTD, Gibson, etc. It’s a very comfortable place, with good staff. Check it out for yourself.
Coneydub Creations (Coneydub)
I happened to serendipitously show up to a guitar string'ing event when the whole reason I made the trip was to learn how to string my guitar having never done it before as a complete novice. They cleaned my guitar and changed all the strings, showing me how to do it along the way explaining everything. They gave my guitar 🎸 some much needed TLC and even tweaked my action levels. He gave me a rundown of what all the knobs and levers do too. They even had a representative direct from Fender demo'ing guitars and answering questions. I'm very happy with this store and will make sure I get all my music gear from them.
Ryan Abbott
I've been shopping at Five Star for years and I have had every experience you can have from the store (sales, lessons, repair work, general advice, etc.). This is a place where the people care about your experience with your guitar when you're at home, instead of making whatever sale they can in the moment.
More recently (during the pandemic closures), I needed to gear up with an electric guitar and some other equipment at a time when you can't just pop in to try different guitars and ask questions. I've come to trust the staff and their expertise so much that after a conversation with them I bought a used Fender Stratocaster that was on consignment "sight unseen" for curbside pick-up and felt completely comfortable with the quality of what I would be getting. After getting it home and playing through my new guitar and inspecting it, my faith in the folks at this store was validated again. They've taken the time to know what I'm looking for and I couldn't be happier with my guitar or my practice sessions.
If you're looking for a personal experience with down to earth people that want to help you enjoy what you're doing and make it financially reachable, this is it!
Jason Fellman
This is a very well run business. The owners are musicians who are passionate about guitars and music making in general. Great selection, competive prices, killer service, and I've always done well there selling on consignment. Very active in the community. Just a really cool shop all around.
Chris Neyman
I had an excellent experience doing a fairly large trade in at Five Star Guitars. Josh was immensely helpful and made the whole thing super easy. The store is really well set up for social distancing and their selection and knowledge are top notch. I couldn't be more pleased to have found a great guitar shop!
SQ Merchant Services
So I am not guitarist. Went with a friend. Staff was awesome! Very knowledgeable. They even make their own acoustic guitars!? And man some of them astecically beautiful So freakin cool!! They treated him like a VIP
Highly recommend 😀

I went here today with my fiancé and we purchased a guitar. The three men that were working, were very friendly and knowledgeable. I regret not getting their names to pay them credit where it’s due! My fiancé is a first timer, so they made him feel confident about his purchase and even offered advice on getting started. They really made us happy with our purchase. We had gone to Guitar Center just before coming here and not only was the wait time outside in line more than 30 minutes, but once inside the only 3 people working were not approaching us at all or asked if we had any questions after mentioning we were purchasing a guitar for the first time. They seemed rushed and said it would take a week for our guitar to ship. Even though we spent 30 more dollars than what we had intended, we would do it again because of the great experience we had as first time customers at Five Star Guitars 🎸 We will definitely be coming back!

First let me say the fastest delivery time of ANY company yet.And dirty Haggard pedals do it right.zonky fuzz pedals.

Such an awesome store! I bought a used electric guitar and amp for my son and was worried I got ripped off. My wife and I decided to stop in and ask if they could take a look. I was embarrassed to ask, but have no experience with guitars.
Luckily, Nate and Josh greeted us when we walked in and enthusiastically asked to take a look. Josh saw something that would be an easy fix on the guitar and took it to the back while Nate jumped on the amp and plugged in a guitar to test it out.
After all was said and done, they recommended a new set of strings and said I’d be good to go. I decided to get a strap, have them install the strings and some cables for the guitar. Josh went out of his way to polish the guitar and Nate threw in some stickers and a T-Shirt for my son when he heard it was for his birthday.
All in all, Nate and Josh are straight up legit guys with a passion for music that shows. Geoff is the owner and another legit down to earth, awesome dude.
Jeffrey Parsons
Great store! Immaculately clean, very inviting. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are on par with chain stores, but setup and quality control are better than any chain store. Very highly recommend them. Will be my first stop for anything guitar I need.
Doug B
5SG setup my guitar that had around 9 years of neglect and hard playing on it. They did great, and I am very impressed with the setup. It was a major improvement at a very fair price. I love the way it plays and sounds now. Will definitely return to 5SG for my setups on all of my guitars. Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst. Thank you 5SG.

As an adult wanting to learn guitar, I felt overwhelmed by going into different small/big box retail environments. I never truly felt comfortable in the music store environment until I walked into Five Star Guitars.
The staff is packed with people who not only know what they are doing, but who honestly want to help people learn to play as well. This is a place you can feel comfortable just hanging out, picking up a guitar (or two+), maybe learn a little something, and/or have a casual conversation - and it's encouraged!
Beyond the staff in general, Michael C. has been an amazing instructor over the past year (I'm a Covid-lockdown learner) - not only for me but my 10 yr old son as well! I can't say enough good things about my experience regarding lessons.
Thank you to the entire staff at Five Star Guitars. You guys ROCK!
Daniel Schultz
I wanted to post something positive about Five Star Guitar. Today I was contacted by the manager Geoff under his own accord. He thanked me for stopping in the shop and purchasing a 6l6 tube. He also offered support should i need anything in the future and wished me a happy holiday. I was moved by his outreach because i knew he did not have to. Great customer service! They will see my business again.

Blown away entering show room. Owner and staff are great. Picked up an EVH Frankie that they set up to perfection. Its my main guitar store now.

I have respect for these guys being a local music store and staying in business for so long. I remember when they were a small little shop at the corner of Cornell and Walker. And they do have a wide selection of guitars. But unfortunately, I have had so many unpleasant experiences with the staff there. They can be too pushy or not help you at all. Some times too much of a I know better than you attitude. I don't have much faith in guitar repair there either. I had a nut worked on before there for one of my guitars and after I ended up taking my guitar to a guitar repair downtown to get it fixed properly. On my last trip there, I wanted to buy a guitar part and they wouldn't sell it to me unless I brought my guitar in. Just sell me the freaking parts. Some people have things to do and they don't have time to come back.
Michael McCartney
I am happy to give Five Star 5 stars! I have 4 or 5 guitars either setup, or repaired, or had pickups installed. Great communication and execution from Ian. Many thanks! I recently bought a 12 string acoustic electric but was without transport for several weeks. The folks at Five Star shipped the guitar free. (Note* this is advertised, but worthy of mention because they didn't say come get it ya lame-O)...no, instead they shipped it across town to me. Packaging was excellent. Also the Fender case for the guitar was "missing" and they took the time to verify that an upgrade to a different hard case was ok before shipment. That is just good customer service. Are they perfect??? Probably not. But every singe transaction I have had with them (since becoming a customer 9 or 10 years ago) has been handled perfectly. Thanks Five Star!
Jacob Longhway
I am super pleased by the service and hard work these gentlemen continuously and generously offer! They have more than helped in my complicated endeavors and were willing to go the extra mile on the house! They have the best prices and the best service! Their product knowledge and their continuity in gaining knowledge never ceases. I have purchased from 5 Star Guitars for over 6 years now and when the guys took over the shop the service maintained if not improved overall. I can purchase or find anything I am looking for (within reason) or at least can find a solution through 5 Star Guitars. I recently had a USA Telecaster upgraded to a better pickup. They not only called the manufacturer, they helped me research the pickup and and worked extremely hard to make sure the tele came out as I expected. It came out better than I expected. These guys know their stuff and are always trying to improve. Support 5 Star Guitars, they deserve it! They will always have my business!!

This is an excellent shop! Great brands, cool used gear, staff knows what's up and they want you to be satisfied with your purchase.
I bought a new bass rig and was having some challenges. Their first response was "let's find a way to make it right." They took the time to investigate with me and make sure I was really happy. Turned out it was a simple fix and I'm really digging my new amp.
I'll definitely buy more gear from them.
Bill
I stopped in the shop while I was in the Portland area. I wasn't looking to buy anything, but they were very helpful (without being pushy) and really know their products. I highly recommend this store. BTW, I also went to one of the two Guitar Center(s) in the area... and one of the employees said "Hey" to me.
DasterSlice
Five Star Guitars is a great place to go if you want a good deal on guitars and great customer satisfaction. They are knowledgeable, helpful and very patient with new guitar players. I don't know if I'm considered as a regular there, but I feel very welcome every time I walk in. I really recommend going here.

Made a purchase today at the Five star guitars in Tanasbourne. People working there are really nice, friendly and helpful. I went in to buy classical nylon string acoustic guitar and they had a decent collection. They gave suggestions and reccomemded which are the good ones to buy and how they differ from others. Technician fine tuned the action and checked the guitar overall before I made the final purchase. They match online prices and buying guitar in store is always better than buying online.
CobraZoid
I have been there 3 times, and I will admit...Five Stars Guitar is the best guitar store to exist, they got plenty of cool selections of guitars to choose from that you can try out to play, examine, and buy them. The staffs are really friendly and awesome and the atmosphere is really amazing. I really recommend this place.
Allison Bisgard
Super helpful. I just started playing guitar and I needed to replace my strings. They recommended a great set and demonstrated how to string my guitar(demonstration was free of charge). They were super friendly and welcoming to a new player like myself. All the employees we worked with were knowledge with out seeming snoody.

👍🎸I was really impressed with a customer service tonight. After my son’s guitar lesson there, I noticed that my car battery had been dead. I went back into the store. I was desperate to find a someone who could jumpstart my car. I asked a five star guitar shop clerk if there was someone who could help. He was very helpful and went to every classroom to find instructors who could help. All of them were busy teaching. He then asked the other clerk, named Ed. He willingly came out to the parking lot in a cold night to help start my car. My son and I were so grateful for his kindness. If it had not been for the first clerk and Ed’s help, we would have had to ask strangers for a help in the darkness. Thank you so much. You guys rock! It is truly a 5-star guitar store! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been a customer of Five Star Guitars for about 10 years. I have seen how the store has transitioned from one owner to another and how management has evolved through the years. As mentioned in couple of reviews prior to mine; Don't let your guard down when buying instruments from this store.
I have had many interesting experiences with no fully functional instruments. Teachers are great, however, front desk customer service is not the best and sometimes terrible. To give you some examples: the front desk should not be downgrading or saying things about their music teachers, better don't hire them. The account management for your music lessons is not well done and lessons get messed up. Be sure to be on top of your account. Front Desk wants to charge for initial evaluation class where everywhere else is free, sometimes teachers move-on and you get a last minute call with a class rescheduled with another teacher. Having a new teacher is a new start requiring evaluation which is not free, and others.
After 10 years, I have decided to move-on to other pastures. Tired of dealing with the front desk.

Friendly, informed, no judgment, no high pressure sales... I didn't give five stars only bcause their accoustic guitar brands are somewhat limited - Understandable give their an independent. I've visited several times and have been always treated well even when I tell them I'm only browsing. I'm a Martin fan (which they don't carry), so I didn't buy a guitar there, but much superior to Guitar Center in knowledge and service! Recommend highly.
Tyler
This place is wonderful! So much better than Guitar Center!! It's clean, organized and has a great selection of toys!! I will definitely be coming back for all my musical needs!
Paul Nemeth
Purchased a Breedlove acoustic/electric...Ed skillfully and patiently walked me through the options. Ordered online (I live out of state) and the guitar arrived a few days later in perfect condition with a pro setup. Will 100% purchase from them again.

My experiences in this store are consistently positive over a several year timespan. The book selection (Mack Robertson) and scope of the knowledge (guitars, bass, recording gear, amps, even guitars they don't sell) related to equipment is stellar. Their guitar repair guys have done very good work for me as well.
Luke Mroch
My visit at 5 star was the best experience I have ever had going to a music shop. This place has an incredible selection and the employees are extremely friendly. 5 star gets a 5 stars easy.
Paula Asis
We bought our son a junior sized guitar from these guys. He messed around with it, like a toy guitar for a couple years. When my son was 14, we sent him to five star for guitar lessons, he always looked forward to it. We ended up buying a full sized fender guitar and case. Now at 16, he spends hours learning new riffs. Five star fueled the fire for my son for many years now. They are really great.
Heidi Szekely
These guys are the best! My daughter takes voice lessons from Ray and guitar lessons from Michael. They’re both awesome. Everyone who works in the shop is so friendly, too. It’s like a family there. They’re all really knowledgeable and everyone there is a musician. They definitely don’t try to rip you off. They’ll find the best thing to fit your budget. Go here first!
Rick Bernard
I have bought several guitars and a vox amp from them. The owner which I thought was a store employee was so helpful with no sales pressure. Love to go back and browse. Interesting items and possibilities sold here, good job, thanks
Kevin Mapes
Amazing customer support, locally owned Portland small business. This is my favorite place to look and touch the best of the new and the old classics. I bought my first guitar from them nearly 20 years ago, and I'll keep coming back.
Jason Wilcox
Five star is the absolute greatest guitar store to ever exist, not only do they have the best gear and unbeatable deals but the best service and a super knowledgeable staff. It is the only guitar store I will ever go to, no joke. Five Star Guitar Totally ROCKS.

Nice music store. Ideal for a guitarists needs. Clean and well organized with attentive staff. Will do string changes for a good price.

Nathan, the associate at Fivestars was extremely polite, friendly, and knowledgeable about his job. He always goes out of his way to make customers happy. The fact is, all of the people who work here make you feel at home and want to come back for whatever related to music. Love this store!
Bryan Newman
Brought my bass in for restring and set up with Ian for high fret string buzz. They said they were 2 weeks out on repairs. They ended up having it done within 4 days and it played great! The service wasexcellent and all the staff were actuallyintersted in helping you! The way it should be! Thanks very much!

This is probably one of the best shops in the Portland area. They will match the price of any other store. The dudes working there are all down to Earth, and the first time I bought strings there they let me change my strings on their bench and use their stuff to clean up my bass. Excellent shop!!!

Bought a older sigma acoustic from goodwill it buzzed and had high action .I brought it in and Geoff recommended a nut and saddle change with an adjustment. His guitar tech Ian was very knowledgeable about guitars and set it up perfectly. My son was so surprised at the play ability of the guitar. When I brought it in it was almost unplayable.
Jim Davies
Easily the best experience I've had in a guitar shop. Everyone was not only knowledgeable but super friendly. At no point did I feel uncomfortable which often happens for me as a novice player.
Thomas Blair
Helpful and friendly staff. Spacious floor. Prices are as good as you'll find on the internet. They have some really cool and interesting guitars in addition to a great Fender selection.
Chris Goldthorpe
This is the first place I would go if buying a guitar, I have already bought two instruments here. The staff are very knowledgeable and the guitars are always set up well. They also have a very good repair shop.
Jonathan Hall
The best instruments and the best people to do business with. Will definitely be back.

Been a 5star customer for years, bought a guitar from the original owner and was so happy with how things went down I became a life long customer. They opened a shop downtown hillsboro which is 2 minutes from me, and I was extatic. Been out of the game for a while, and recently decided to pick up my guitar again after a few years. Needed a few things so naturally i go to 5star! Unfortuntely they closed the original location, and the newer hillsboro location and consolidated to a "super store" I tried it out, but it felt alot like guitar center to me..impersonal. i used to love 5 star, and the "ma and pop" vibe. Sorry to see they are moving away from that. I needed a new set of strings, and asked if they still offered restrings. The guy at the front desk asked me to leave my guitar with them "for a few days". I have walked in and had my strings changed by 5 star many times..and been on my way. Instead i bought strings and left. Oh well. Goodbye good ole days. No 5 stars for 5 star
EDIT: I am an idiot. These guys are awesome, and I shouldnt have complained here about my experience. It is easier to understand the backlog of repairs, when the luthier is so well respected and everybody wants their guitar repaired.
Just made the biggest guitar purchase i have ever made, and now i have a second guitar. So ian will get to fix my attempts at learning how to perform adjustments on my first guitar.

I have visited this place on multiple occasions. The staff is friendly and real knowledgeable. On two occasions, they have gone out of their way, above and beyond to make sure that I was happy and that I had what I needed- both occasions, I hadn't made a purchase. They were helping out not for profit but to be a good group of guys. I highly recommend this place for all things guitars.
thomas spain
Nice selection, very helpful staff, I wish I had more money.
Chris Hill
I ordered some speakers from Five Star Guitar after figuring out which ones I wanted from poking around the internet and sound samples. I called to find out if they had the speakers in stock, no they didn't, but they got back to me about how much they would be. It was a good deal so I pulled the trigger. The speakers appeared a week or so later.
In looking at some of the other reviews, I want to echo the guitar setup stuff because I am not aware of any other shops that do that for all guitars hanging on the wall. It's a nice little thing that they do probably because they're all musicians.
John Geier
Fair prices, frequent sales, and always helpful staff.
Marius MS
I don't often need to buy guitars, but when I do I know this is the place I would do it. The kids that work here are the best and the most knowledgeable of which I am aware. Watch out, pretty soon they're gonna be 6 star guitars, I think that's way more appropriate but Google won't let me rate them that high.
Grant Austin
Went in here when I was on that side of town for another appointment.
Glad I did. Great selection of gear. Friendly staff that gave me some very useful information about an amp I'd been looking for.
Hoping to return soon to tuck into a new toy.
Rick Roach

Took my son and his guitar in to get re-strung this afternoon, and Nate spent time teaching us how to re-string it ourselves. He was personable, patient, and that simple interaction will keep me coming back for all my guitar-related needs for years to come.

So I think I was a bit harsh on these guys with my review. I've since spent a lot of time with the bridge on this guitar... getting it set up *perfectly*.
There was a communication problem at the counter, and later when I called back to clarify, there was information that didn't make it to the tech. After setting this thing back up to stock specs, it's clear all the issues with this set up really stemmed from there.
The truss wasn't set to my liking, but it wouldn't have been touched with a simple string change and fret cleaning. Same with my intonation problems. Without the extended saddles (that floyd makes btw), you can't properly do .10s anyway. You can push the saddles on both B/E forward all the way and still intonate flat with the thicker strings on the stock Ibanez edge. I assumed this was because of settling, and some string stretching.
It was quite the project to re-adjust, well.. everything on this axe, but in the end, I should know how this bridge works anyway. Thanks for the great guitar cleaning.
